"Remind me... how exactly did you pull this off?"
The question spoken by the Mikemon was in the minds of many, today. After all, it had been only days since the Dark Spires began to terrorize the Digital World - those in the furthest corners of the world wouldn't have even known about them yet! And yet, here they were in this clearing, one of those dark towers sprouting up past the canopy. But instead of a desperate rag-tag team of rookies and a single Digimon emboldened by a dark ring, this tower was surrounded by a mess of wires and mechanical equipment. Even now, Dr. Mikemon held up his sphere, peering through the red glass to try and delve into the secrets of the tower.
"My, Doctor, I would not underestimate the resourcefulness of the holy realm." The scholarly voice of the Wisemon followed with a chuckle, giving a bow as he observed from a distance. "But, I trust these controls are to your liking? Surely you don't want a repeat of the Dark Area."
"Hmph." The wizard had to bring up that gem? "I'll act as your medic, but if things get out of hand, don't think I'll hesitate to put the kibosh on all of this."
"As you will, dear Mikemon." He brushed it off, and floated near the edge of the path, nearest the clearing. Honestly, this was a tricky turn to miss! And as Wisemon awaited the coming group, the cat stayed near the back, going over the equipment once more.
"Tch, shoulda brought Stingmon... I barely have a handle on this stuff..."

"...Ever thought why suddenly we can't assume our higher form?" Hikaru muttered. Ever since an event concerning a certain girlfriend, both Yuuki and Hikaru had to take a break from their usual days of traveling in Digital World. Instead, they're focusing themselves on matter of real world. Hikaru himself often goes to Digital World, even if it's just to take care of his newly built bar... but when he heard about this situation where the control spires appeared in Digital World, he's just... honestly, petrified. At first he thought that it's related to the island where he was locked for good seven years and more of Digital World time, but... it doesn't seem like that.
Now, the Dorumon---er, Canisdramon, his armor form, brought with him his partner to the agreed meeting place. Apparently someone is trying to get data on these objects, both the spire and the control rings. Curiosity and desire to return Digital World back to normal made them agreed to help.
"...We're here," Hikaru pointed out.
What they saw are pair of Mikemon and Wisemon... and a control spire with lot of cables attached to it. If Hikaru have a question, he'd ask why. It's almost too fast to be tampered... Are these guys geniuses or something? Regardless, he approached them...
"Hey there, fellas... looks like we're the first to the party?" Hikaru asked after he devolved back to his child form. An unwise move if only he didn't notice that his evolving ability isn't inhibited here.

K honestly had to ask herself what was she thinking? She was supposed to be done with these adventures, done with these.. These forays into the digital world in general. She wasn't supposed to be the sort to go out and solve problems but yet again here she was. Perhaps it had been something from the first incident in her small town where her inn was located; but she was feeling herself forced to get out more and more.
So of course when she heard about this testing going on, so close to home she couldn't help but be curious as well as willing to see what it was all about. Or what effects these supposed rings had? She had to admit to herself that she wanted to help against these things; she was finding herself wanting to be at her inn less and less as timed pass which was honestly strange to the renamon.
It really wasn't hard to find the location of the dark tower honestly; it stuck out like a damn thumb from the canompy making it easy to go through it. She likely was going to regret agreeing to this later, but she couldn't help the call of adventure or some form of soft purpose.
It took her little under thirty or so minutes to reach the tower and rightfully thus. She was a good bit away from it to begin with and she had to admit to herself that she wasn't one hundred percent familiar with the forest as she should be. [managing to trip on a few roots she wasn't expecting even...] She found herself stepping into the clearing shortly after a human and their partner; hearing their greeting made her chuckle. This would be something close to a party she guessed, but with the way the wisemon had made it sound it'd likely be a little complicated.
She had to admit with how the tower looked currently it wasn't that threatening. With all the mechanical bits and such. So they probrably assumed it was safe. She'd give a soft wave, looking a mix of curious and.. well. Somewhat relaxed?
"...and I seem to be the second no less. This thing doesn't look too threatening. with how you have it hooked up to everything. Afternoon I suppose."

This dark tower was quite ominous, giving the area a menacing feel. Though off in the distance travels a rather unintimidating small wooden kart. There's an engine in front with two Pagumon driving it, towing a wooden wagon behind. And riding along in the wagon, a Tamer and Digimon celebrate being together again.
Dante and Wormmon singing: "Reunited and it feels so good!"
Yes, Dante and the Worm King have finally come together again. They had been split apart after falling into a trap, and they both went on to have their own adventure leading up to finding each other. Wormmon told Dante all about the dark tower he saw in the Digital World, and now they are headed to examine another. Dante takes a swig from a bottle of wine. The road was far too bumpy to use a glass. As they reach the top of a hill, they see the dark tower in the distance. "Whoah, check that out. It's massive. Is that like the tower you saw?" "Sort of, but it didn't have all those cables. This must be some kind of SUUUper tower." "Yes, it is quite imposing."
The Pagumon continue driving towards the tower. Finally they stop a while away. "That's as close as we'll take you. Giant freaky towers give me the creeps!" Dante finishes the bottle of wine and steps out of the kart. Wormmon crawls up Dante's arm and sits on his shoulder. "Thank you for the ride, you two. And the wine." "No problem, Dante. You are a loyal friend to the Pagumon. Good luck dealing with those lame towers. I hope you sock it to whoever is responsible for building all those eye sores around the Digital World." "Of course. I'm looking forward to learning more about the towers' creators. We'll keep in touch."
The Pagumon smile and drive off in their kart. Dante walks the rest of the way, until he sees some familiar faces. Dante approaches the growing group. His shaggy blonde hair has grown even longer, and is well in need of a trim. Dante has also let his goatee grow out. He is wearing a red cloak with a leather jacket underneath. His black jeans are filthy, having not been washed after days of being out in the Digital World. Dante recognizes Yuuki and Hikaru, two friends that they have gotten into a few sticky situations with, and the Renamon K, an innkeeper whose inn they stayed at during a nasty storm while traveling back after a mission. Actually K's inn was not far from here, if Dante remembers correctly.
Dante and Wormmon are excited to see their friends. "Hiya! I guess you're here to check out the crazy tower too. We are joining the party!" "It's great to see you again. Though not under the most pleasant of circumstances." Dante notices Mikemon and Wisemon. The wizard reminds him a lot of the trickster Wizardmon. He had his suspicions that whoever was creating these towers had something to do with Gram and the other hackers, but something told him that this was a new threat that required his immediate concern. To have the power to construct multiple towers across the Digital World, someone, or something powerful had to be pulling the strings.

That awkward moment when you couldn't find your way back home. Amelie knew where she was; somewhere in Server Woods, and knew where to go—Terminus City. What she didn't know was how to trace a line that connected both places and walk through it without getting hopelessly lost. Maybe it was related to a poor sense of direction, maybe it was the whole alien world issue, or maybe... something in the forest drew her in.
In any case, the black tower would enter her vision range soon enough, along with... the peculiar set of modifications it had sustained; maybe it was just something the brunette felt, but the environment felt way less tense than in the last time, not to say that there wasn't a giant, red firebreathing lizard blocking the path.
The girl recognized some of the beings currently in the clearing —namely, a Renamon and a Wormmon—, but didn't do much in the way of addressing them particularly or something. For all what she knew, these could be other beings that looked exactly the same as the ones she remembered. Digimons were weird like that.
Now, the teenager would be lying if she said she wasn't curious about what was happening there, and the towers had piqued her curiosity from the get-go, so... her steps began to approach the site. Slowly, Amy made her way towards the gathering, waving a hand with a neutral expression, and making sure to not be perceived as a threat.
"Good afternoon." She greeted, taking a more thorough look at the tower. "What's happening in here? Looks interesting."

The Ogrelords had heard the rumors. How could anybody not? A giant monolith taking Digimon and making them weaker? That was huge news!
Well, at the very least, it would be if the Ogrelords could actually read. Most of the newspaper was basically gibberish to these ogres. They could make out the headline, at least. Being in big, blocky letters and nearly the size of the Ogrelords' faces made that very easy. Goblimon squinted as he pulled the Terminus Times away from his face, sounding out the letters best to his ability. "Mono . . . Big Rock Thing makes Digimon All Small Like," he said, taking quite a few creative liberties with what it said. "Stay Away.
Oi, you know what this means, boys?"
"We do not go near the giant rock thing?" SnowGoblimon helpfully asked? He immediately flinched, pre-emptively realizing that Goblimon would bop him on the head for such a dumb answer.
"You crazy?" Goblimon asked, pointing intently at the picture of the monolith on the cover. "That thing looks crazy! Could you imagine breaking the tip of it off and bringing it to our shack? No, no. The whole damn thing! We're the biggest and the toughest there is. What's some rock gonna do about us trying to lift it, huh? That's right! Nothing! So what's it gonna be, boys? Are we gonna bag ourselves a rock, or are we gonna let a piece of paper tell us what to do?"
"Wouldn't it smallify us?" Shamamon asked. "We just got our arms and legs back! I ain't risking those."
"Ha! Like some magic rocks could ever give us any trouble!" Goblimon guffawed. "Winners don't let some tower leave 'em quaking in their boots. It just ain't dignified! We didn't earn these championship belts backing down. We earned 'em fair and square, beating the crap out of people until they couldn't fight us for them! And that's a 3-on-1 fight. Rocks ain't people, so this is more like a 3-on-0. There's no way we can lose!
Now get your suits, ya hear? We're giving this rock one hell of an impression."
And that was what lead to the Ogrelords sauntering up to the Control Spire, decked out in full holosuit regalia. Standing at 7 feet tall at least, built like Brock Lesnar fell into a pit of radioactive steroids, and rocking wild manes that waved in the wind like total badasses, they would likely be quite the sight. They looked up at the tower as they approached it, a determined challenge flickering in Goblimon's eyes. He paused, then let out a war cry and ran into what he could only assume to be the tower's radius. He waited until he was as close to the obsidian structure as the equipment would allow, then paused.
He was still himself! He let out a hearty laugh, flexing against the backdrop of the tower. Soon Shamamon and SnowGoblimon were flanked against him, joining him in a rather impromptu team pose. "I told ya this thing couldn't handle us!" he shouted, pointing at the Control Spire and laughing. "Screw you, rock!"
SnowGoblimon was the first to stop posing. "Uh, boss? There's people here," he said, prompting Shamamon to stop posing and look. Unfortunately, Goblimon was way too wrapped up in his own glory and ego to even pay notice.
Shamamon and SnowGoblimon walked over to the group, Shamamon tilting his head curiously. "Oi, what's going on here now?" he asked, as if he didn't just charge into the middle of an important research meeting for the sake of a team pose.

Honestly, something had to be said - what was with uninvited Digimon showing up at these excursions?
In this case, at least, it made a little bit of sense: anyone who thought the tower was out of the ordinary would come to investigate. Heck, there was a risk of someone showing up during the experiment, completely misinterpreting the situation! For the first couple of arrivals, at least, everything was by the books. First was Itou and Canisdramon - an armor digimon in the form of a bladed wolf.
The Mikemon in the back spared them a glance and a nod, as he continued to hook up equipment to the remote power supply. The Wisemon greeted them in proper with a small, courteous bow. "Indeed. I hope the weather stays clear for all this. Pardon, but I'd rather go through all the clerical stuff once. There should be two more parties, and it shouldn't take long..."
And, before he could even finish that introduction, a second voice perked up, belonging to a Renamon! "Mhm. Well, Its hard for it to look threatening without some sort of monster guarding it."
"Wait a minute," Dr. Mikemon mumbled in the back, ear perking up at the voice of that innkeeper. And as he looked up, his eyes widened: "K? Didn't figure you'd be out here in this mess!" Hooking that last cord into place, the cat hopped down, briefly shaking out his fur. He couldn't say he was happy she was here, already knowing the details of the mission beforehand, but it was nice to see a familiar face!
That said, it wasn't the only amount of familiarity around here, and the third group was definitely the most energetic and vocal of the three - and, to note, the last ones that had physically signed up for the mission! "My, my, such a lively group. And now that we're all here, I suppose I should-"
"... Hold that thought." Dr. Mikemon raised a hand to signal, as another person wandered on in. To be fair, all she said was that it looked 'interesting', earning a sigh from the cat. "Well, the wizard's about to explain it. I guess you can sit around and watch-"
And then, the Ogrelords blew it all out of the water. Three humans - clearly holosuits, as was obvious by their appearance - quite loudly made their way into the clearing, and boasted about besting the rock! Mikemon seemed aghast for a moment, before pinching his sinus in frustration, the Wisemon simply shaking his head.
"Ah... guess simple dares are still a thing, I guess? Dispel Illusion - Low." The book under the wizard's arm would give a faint glow, a faint blue light eclipsing the area. It would, in fact, run over everyone there, but would only have an impact on the holosuits: in all likelihood, the Ogrelords would appear in their rookie forms, torn away from their disguised muscle-bound physique! "Now, I'd be quite happy to explain, but please, get in line with - well, actually, why don't you three sit a bit off to the left?"
"Oi..."
With, er, 'introductions' settled between them, the Wisemon floated to the front, and addressed the group as a whole. "Ah, welcome, and thank you all for coming: participants, curious onlookers, and proud warriors. As some of you know and as you can see, a Dark Spire has cropped up in this area. But, we managed to detect this one on appearance: its dark rings never took hold, and with my own specialty, I've disabled the tower's aura. Please, feel around for your forms, you'll find you can Digivolve normally."
That much was true, but it still earned a 'tch' from Dr. Mikemon! "But, suffice to say, we can't be lucky like this all the time. Before its inevitably voted to destroy this tower, I've been granted permission to run a few tests, so we can better understand how they function. We've already managed to pry a bit into the tower's function, and... well, show them, Doctor."
"Right, make me go near them." Slipping protective gloves on over his own, Dr. Mikemon trotted off to the back, and retrieved two items: in his left, a 'Dark Ring', and his right, a 'Dark Spiral'. "Dark Rings." Supposedly, Hikaru, K, and Dante would know about them from the mission briefing at signup, and Amelie would have seen them in the Valley of Dragons. As for the Ogrelords, this would require a fresh description: "As far as we know, those bound by the rings are designated as 'programmed guardians' for the tower, but for those that have cropped up so far, we haven't been able to get any detailed information."
"Which is why you will all be donning the rings. If I see correctly... two tamer pairs, a lone Digimon, triplets, and... pardon, are you a spirit user or just a lone human? Regardless, there's quite the variety to run. That said, it seems to be four-on-one, at least, for those donning the rings. Hm."
Mikemon sighed. "We've classed this high, but it seems simple enough, right? We can describe this better in a moment, but would anyone like to volunteer to go first?"

Second to appear is a Renamon, who apparently took the mission too. Yuuki gave her a curt nod. It's seem that the doctor knows her... the Wisemon's greeting was curt, but he understand. He too wanted to get this done with. The third one is Dante... oh dear... for some reason all he can think is brace for the demon. But can Hikaru really fight if something wrong happened?
However, two more... parties (one is by herself though!) appeared. One was a girl who came by curiously... Something felt familiar with her, but he can't put a finger to it. Another are... Holy tarnation, some sort of cosplaying trio talking about the monolith. What's worse is that they're even huger than Ryouta... like that's even possible. However, Hikaru just snickering beside him. Oh, holosuit, huh?
As much fun as it is, Wisemon cancelled out their holosuit and they turned out to be some three goblins. Welp, there goes the shock factor. He followed it with the explanation of what they're going to face...
The Digimental flew back to Yuuki's D-Terminal and Dorumon replaced his higher form. For now, let's just try, huh... Yuuki looked at Hikaru, wondering if it's fine to just test. He nodded in reply. Several bright lights later (courtesy of Yuuki and Hikaru trying from Dorumon to Dorugamon, Dorugamon to Dorugreymon and finally Dorugreymon to) Alphamon appeared in the clearing. It's seem that he can evolve well from here. He degenerated back to Dorumon. No way in seven purgatory he's going to don the dark ring in Alphamon form.
"........Say, I have several questions." Hikaru raised his hand (er, paw?). "Is it possible to share what you know so far? Like, how strong are the controlling prowess of these rings? A normal Digimon with control prowess would have hard time affecting anyone on even the same level... so tell me, if I turn into Alphamon, would it still have same power to control me like when I'm a Dorumon?"
...The problem is, if they know that they can Biomerge, would they ask him to biomerge with Yuuki? The chance of it affecting human probably low, but on the other hand, biomerged state basically treats you as a Digimon, no matter how many percent of you are human.
"...and can it evolve me forcefully? Other than that, do you have extra rings? That's all I'll ask."

The person before her was pleasant enough; quick to answer both her and the individual that had arrived not a few moments before her. The latter of which giving her a curt nod. There was no reason to not be friendly so she returned it with a small smile.
Those next to arrive were a familiar pair, Dante and wormmon. Individuals that had been to her inn and spent a night during a storm. She knew them well enough to be comfortable with them. It was nice seeing a familiar face to say the least and she'd give the two of them a small wave.
"Good or bad, it's still nice to see you. And yes, I was curious to see why such a thing came up by my inn. No better way to get to the heart of things than be part of the solution after all."
Then of course there was yet another human that arrived. One that she recognized from another happening. They were friendly enough to give a greeting and then inquire as to what was happening here. Though K found it needed to give her a small nod; the edges of a smile on her lips.
"Afternoon. You don't recognize this? We dealt with something similar to it recently after all."
The last group to arrive was something strange, at first she thought they were under attack but when she whirled to look she only found herself blinking slowly. A trio of what she presumed to be humans; crying out loudly and then even decided to come over to the gathering to inquire what was going on. She wasn't sure how to handle them immediately and found herself staring, brow raised and arms fallen to her side.
When she was addressed by Dr. Mikemon she however stiffened with surprise; she was not expecting to run into him before going to whitewater. Though she had to admit it was nice seeing someone she trusted on the actual inside of this entire matter. If something went wrong he'd likely fix it, that or one of the others she had met previously.
"Wasn't expecting you to be the practitioner they'd send to do this. As I said earlier, I'm more curious than anything. Can't always stay in my inn now can I?"
She'd give him a small smile before turning to the wisemon. They did some sort of magic trick and then even offered to explain some things out. Which would be nice to go over everything again. She'd of course remain standing while the wisemon explained things. Her eyes tracking him as he moved. She hadn't dealt with many other mystic types before; so of course her curiosity wasn't just at the tower. It was with him too; and with mikemon here? Well there was always that gem of his along with some other things she couldn't help but wonder about. At the statement of digivolution K paused and looked down at her hands, frowning slightly.
"Don't think I can digivolve yet anyways. Though I imagine that might be a good thing when dealing with these rings right?"
Then of course there was the explanation of what they had been doing, what had been given to them on top of a few other statements. Ultimately they would tell Dr. Mikemon to go get the rings. Or at least insinuate that he should go get them. She felt a shiver run from the top of her spine all the way down, she'd shake her head and tut softly. The ring and the "spiral" just looked off to her. Something that reminded her of a darker time but she honestly couldn't put her finger on it.
"They don't exactly look too comfortable, but that's the price of being efficient I suppose."
She'd shake her head a little and squint at the ring and spiral. They weren't even sure what would happen if they donned them. It could be something bad and then again.. nothing at all could happen. Maybe with the tower being de-activated or whatever there wouldn't be any reaction from the rings.
Then the mikemon asked for a volunteer to go first. She'd give a small gesture; indicating that she had interest in doing so. But she also followed up with a comment.
"I'd like to go first if you don't mind. Waiting can get a bit nerve-wracking."
She'd chuckle at the last part and rub her neck nervously. The other's questions made sense as well as a few other things. It made her nervous however to see such a large digimon so close, she wasn't sure if she'd ever be anything like that and she was very certain if she was... Well. She'd hope she hadn't lost her way or something along those lines.

After a while, more arrived at the tower. Dante and Wormmon are surprised by the size of the three brutes. "Check it out, Dante. They've got muscles on top of their muscles." Then Wisemon dispelled their holosuits, revealing them to be the Ogrelords. "Looks can be deceiving, Wormmon." "Oh sure, you say that now. Think you're so smart..." For whatever reason they had, everyone has been summoned to this tower to investigate this anomaly. It made sense that K would be curious about the tower. Who was behind all of this?
The wizard and the good doctor further explained the situation. They spoke about the dark rings and spirals. Upon hearing that Digimon were not restricted from digivolution, Hikaru went up to his Alphamon form and back to test this. Apparently these rings could be used to take control over Digimon. Dr Mikemon wants them to test it out, by willingly placing the ring on. "So the wearer will lose control?" Wormmon lacked control to begin with. When they asked if anyone wanted to go first, Dante is worried his partner will jump at the chance. "What do you think, little buddy? Is that something you would be comfortable with? Do you want to try?"
Wormmon crosses his arms and turns his nose up. (What nose?) "Hmph, the very idea! I don't want something that controls me." "Really? What about when you first turned back to Lilithmon? I thought you would want the chance to go crazy." "When I go crazy, it's because I want to. Not because someone is manipulating me. I'm okay with testing it out, but I would rather see it in action before I take that risk." "Hmm, very responsible." Had Wormmon not unlocked his old memories, with his wild thing attitude he would have jumped at the chance to do something potentially destructive.
It turns out K is the first to step up. She probably had more on the line than anyone, and if she could only reach the Rookie stage, it wouldn't be that difficult to pacify her. Still, what if a Digimon could still Digivolve while they were being controlled? Dante felt a little uneasy about this. He didn't want to see his friend lose control, and then have to fight 4 on 1. Ultimately, this research was necessary if they were going to understand the nature of these dark towers. You can't build an ivory tower without killing a few Mammothmon. "Alright, good luck, K. Wormmon, maybe you should Digivolve to Stingmon to be sure you don't get hurt." "Relax, Dante. The odds are against her, and I'm fast enough to look out for myself. I've learned quite a lot about fighting in my Rookie stage since I first saw a dark spire."

The whole ordeal seemed way more complicated than the first time they had faced this mess, as Amelie would find soon enough. Renamon made a point on them actually dealing with a similar structure not long before, but there was a catch in here; that much the teenager could tell. "I know we've faced what this structure is capable of doing before. With the exception that before it wasn't connected to what looks like a supercomputer."
Her reasoning could have been flawed, but Wisemon more or less gave them the reason; this tower right now was as good as trash, and would probably be reduced to dust soon enough. The whole point of this "experiment" was to test these dark rings and the properties they had. It was... interesting; really interesting, in fact.
"Spirit user are the words, yeah." She responded when inquired by Wisemon. She wasn't all that experienced, and frankly... didn't know why she was doing this in the first place, but it was probably too late to think about that. Sides, it would be fun, wouldn't it?
When asking who wanted to volunteer, the teenager stepped ahead more or less at the Renamon spoke up. Everyone else seemed to be cautious about it. "I'm fine with going first too. Don't have any questions at the moment. When do we begin?"
Of course, she'd be fine with watching if the digimon picked Renamon, but if not... this would get interesting.

The Ogrelords blinked as their holosuits were suddenly vaporized out of existence. Goblimon in particular, who was still in mid pose, was surprised to see that the center of his vision was suddenly half as tall as it was before. Slowly his uproarious laughter died down, arms gently falling down to his sides. Then without a further word he rushed past his brothers, angrily propping himself against them to jab a finger in Wisemon's hooded face. "Oi, what's the deal?" he asked, the other two moving him back so they didn't get their butts kicked by a Digimon several times stronger than them. "We was using those!"
Thankfully, cooler heads quickly prevailed. Literally, when SnowGoblimon launched a cloud of blue mist from his mouth to freeze Goblimon's head in an ice cube. Shamamon escorted Goblimon over to the left with the others while SnowGoblimon looked up at the Wisemon. "Welp. The boss is gonna be holdin' a grudge about this one for a while," he said. He looked around to make sure nobody overheard, the snickered as he leaned up to whisper towards Wisemon. "Heh. You should totally mess with him. That'd be great." Shamamon looked over, glaring, then started to snicker himself. It was time for the lesser two Ogrelords to get their revenge!
With that said, the trio sat back to listen to Wisemon's explanation. Yadda yadda, big tower that doesn't actually work. Yadda yadda, guardians wearing rings. Yadda yadda, four on one beatdown-
Actually, wait, no, that part sounded fun! Although Shamamon seemed to take issue with it. He turned to face the group, pointing at everyone assembled there. 'Umie with dragon. Some fox. 'Umie with worm. 'Umie with nobody (okay, that earned a snicker). SnowGoblimon. Goblimon. "That's five-on-one, ya igormoose!" Shamamon said, completely failing to realize that he hadn't counted himself. "Come on, that's not how ya math good!"
That said, there was one person who seemed as ready to fight as they did. The 'umie with the dragon took out some weird device, and suddenly the dragon with him turned into a giant Alphamon. Their jaws dropped to the floor upon seeing this. Heck, Goblimon was so shocked that the ice block around his head cracked into tiny pieces. They looked at each other, trying to think of some levity to help ease themselves about this situation. Eventually, Goblimon hesitantly whispered "Well, somebody's compensating for something, eh boys?" as if hoping that joke would help.
SnowGoblimon chimed in as well upon seeing Alphamon reduce down into Dorumon, mere seconds after Digivolving. "Yeah. Not much stamina, either," he said, the trio snickering nervously. This was going to be fine. Right?
When asked who'd go first, K stepped up to the plate. The Ogrelords nodded in understanding, but Goblimon didn't seem quite done. "Four on one. Six on one. Twenty on one. Ah, I don't care!" Goblimon said, raising his club high to the sky. "Once she's got a turn, me and my boys are gonna be taking on all of you gits at once! You ain't seen nothing 'til you've seen the Ogrelords in action!" The three snapped into a team pose, hyping themselves up with bluster and boasting to try and make up for their earlier nerves.

Well, it seemed that the varying Goblimon were still going to kick up quite a commotion! Right after their holosuits were forced off, the haughty Goblin thought it wise to step right up into the dark wizard's face! But before he could even get out a witty retort, a gold blast of air blew past his cloak, temporarily rendering that hot personality silent.
"Oh, no need to mess with him. I see he already has two brothers quite capable of doing that." The Wisemon waved off the idea with a chuckle, as the feline gave a sigh in the background at this display. But to K's question, the Mikemon gave a smirk and a shrug. "Well, none of the doctors in their main hospital wanted to get their hands dirty with it. So why not pass it off to the cat who heals with dark magic? At least, I guess that's what they were going for..."
Hoo boy. Things had gotten a touch strange, and it was only on tract to become stranger!
And so, to this unexpectedly expanded group, Wisemon explained their task here, in relatively simple fashion. To put it bluntly, the whole lot was being compensated for being guinea pigs to this experiment, which may have undue effects on the mind. so they could better know how the towers function in the future. Of course, several reasonable questions were raised, which they would handle in order! First was Hikaru's, asking for information in general and the strength of the rings.
]"For security reasons, I can't give away every detail, but as to the rings themselves..." Wisemon nodded towards the Mikemon. "From our current observation, Dark Rings have been sighted on Champion level Digimon, and these Spirals," Mikemon held one up for reference, "on Ultimates. The sample size is small, though, but I'd imagine the strain against the devices would only likely work one level higher than what we've witnessed so far. And if they can evolve you forcefully, well, that's something we'll find out today."
To K's point on their comfort, the Wisemon nodded. ]"They tend to shape around the form of the Digimon to a certain extent, but I can't imagine the process is at all comfortable." To the Wormmon, Mikemon simply nodded: "Loss of control's one of the few things we've confirmed for certain. That, and an innate will to want to protect the tower."
And finally, the Shamamon had a problem with Wisemon's counting! ]"Oh? My apologies, there." In fact, Wisemon had grouped all three of them as one, but he wasn't going to say that out loud! But, finally, they would get down to volunteers, which numbered two:
K and Amelie. "Hm... in that case, I guess we'll draw straws-"
"Now, now, Mikemon. Let's think - we haven't seen how the tower controls multiple targets at the same time, much less such drastically different types. There's a lot more we could confirm with both taking the test at once."
"Er... I suppose." To the Wisemon's surprising idea, the cat gave a blink, and simply sighed, glancing over at both of them. "Alright. Amelie, if you could take your spirit form, please come forward. K, come along as well." His tone was a little more flat near the end than it was at the start, but the process would likely move along rather smoothly. Whether it was the amorphous Driftermon or the slightly-less amorphous Stridermon, both would be in range of the tower. "Yes, right about here... everyone else, stand a bit more back, please." The Mikemon would fall back in line with the others, as the Wisemon moved towards the controls of their little mechanical setup. With the flick of a switch, the Dark Spire pulsed a faint red.
Two 'targets' were detected within its range, and from the tower's base, red data quickly converged together into two dark rings. They weren't simply going to be put on by the Wisemon, no - the rings would fling out, expand, and grip tightly around the 'targets' - if they stood still, a ring would snap around Renee's shoulder, and.. well... around a 'bunch' of whatever amorphous shape the Driftermon or Stridermon happened to be in!
@k AmelieFor this cycle, please take the two posts in the post order - either one of you can go first.
I realize there may be little to respond to for this round otherwise - after these two have posted, I will post no less than three days later, so anyone who wants to get a post in can post!

Surprisingly, wormmon seemed to be okay with letting her go first for the most part. Making such a comment as that the odds were against her if the worst happened. Then the human that she had met before, that she still didn't know name of seemed to desire going first as well. She couldn't blame them, and she wouldn't be surprised if they picked her. After all they already kind of knew what it did to digimon already right?
Then the ogrelords seemed to speak, the trio being somewhat difficult to say the least. She couldn't understand them all too well. They made sense most certainly but they seemed to be operating on a different level of things than everyone else. She didn't know how to respond to them directly; it was like dealing with partymon's or something.
Then the wisemon and Doctor mikemon spoke again. The latter answering her query as of why he was here, she gave him a small grin followed by a nod. She could understand his reasoning, he seemed to be okay with this so she wouldn't bother worrying about it for him.
"Makes sense to me."
Wisemon and the Dr. Mikemon once again spoke, Wisemon alluding to security while the Mikemon explained out happenings. She winced slightly about the reference to the spirals. So the stronger digimon would have those on them? Did the rings evolve into spirals if they were forced to digivolve? More unanswered questions that likely wouldn't know the answer to. The evolving forcefully didn't worry the rookie, she had been a rookie for so long it was practically fact she probably had nothing else!
Then the question of comfort was answered, the rings could shape themselves? That was fairly worrying and she had to admit she was hoping it wouldn't be anywhere uncomfortable.. Though she likely wouldn't get the chance to inquire. She'd dip her head in a nod.
"Well I suppose it'd make sense, these rings seem smaller than what I'd expect..."
Then there was the problem of picking who was going to go first. At first Mikemon suggested straws and then the Wisemon simply suggested the both of them. He was so quick on the draw about it that the Renamon blinked owlishly. When the mikemon asked them to come forward she did it without much pause.
"All right."
She'd glance at Amelie for a moment before looking back up at the tower, a frown sliding onto her lips. When the wisemon flicked the switch she'd hesitate, wondering if she made the right decision. With the tower glowing red.. It felt a bit wierd being so close to it.
She'd tilt her head a little bit, eyes widening slightly when the red data converged on the rings. She almost took a step back when the rings flung out, one snapping firmly around her shoulder. She felt a searing pain, one of her hands coming up to grip at her arm, the heat that was passing through her body from this ring no doubt Spread rather quickly through her chest and the arm it had locked onto. The searing hot feeling aside she'd growl out softly; shaking her head a little bit as she could feel something odd.
"Feels really hot."

Talk about making an unnecessary, yet amusing interruption. Those small guys who previously had the funny, anime-esque suits were proving to be completely hilarious, almost three-stooges tier.
But she wasn't here to watch the Digital World's own iteration of stand up comedy. She was here to submit herself to some... really dangerous, and potentially painful experiment? Yeah, that's what it looked like; a true Guinea pig, that even had offered to go first in this round of strange tests.
Wasn't that thrilling? It was, for sure! The brunette didn't even bother to pay attention to the explanation given towards the guy with the fox-guy that was able to change forms, then go back. Okay, simple enough; use her D-Tector in order to evolve, go ahead, then try out that nice fashion accessory. That sounded easy. "Fair enough. Let's do this."
As one last gaze was given to the dark tower, a faint smile made its way through Amy's face as she brought out her D-Tector with her left hand. Fractal code surged through her right and soon enough, the young woman found herself changing... into her sprite form. Driftermon's form slowly glided ahead, her body millimeters above ground level and her movements being somewhat spasmodic and unpredictable.
Soon enough, the obelisk began to glow a slight red, with the rings soon following. One decidedly went in her direction, firmly gripping one of the many tendrils that constituted her body. For all what she knew, however... it didn't feel anything different from usual.
Instincts told that wouldn't stand that way for too long, however.
