MPC#46D: Christmas?
# of MPCs Taken This Month: 2
Being among those you kept in your heart and enjoying each other's company... that was the true meaning of these festivities...
The night sky at Christmas' Eve had already turned jet-black above Terminus City, only the radiance of the moon and twinkling stars revealing it not to be an eternal abyss of darkness. The metropolis beneath it however was far from dark. On the contrary, Yuletide in its many variations had taken the digital world by storm. Was it Christmas, Chanukka or another interpretation of these times of affection and benignity, digimons and humans alike celebrated it harmoniously. Most aspects that brought a divide among men, like the actual religious attributes of these red-letter days, had been utterly dismissed, leaving pure serenity to everyone who participated.
And without doubt the majority were taking part in the elation, either covering the snowy capital of the planet in multicolored lights or creating special goods, such as pastries, to bring joy wherever possible. Some digimons that had a stronger affinity towards family were of course spending their time together with their dearly beloved, and one of those was the well-known, silver Vulpes known to all as Cion.
Thankful that previous oddities on board of Daedalus a few hours ago had ceased for good, she prepared an exquisite dinner for herself and those she considered her family. Those were of course Owen the Gaomon, Logan the Offman and Hikaru the Dorumon. With four people inside, their middle-class apartment was naturally a bit crowded, but that was of no concern to any of them that day. Golden lights lit the corners and their small fir tree regardless while the three boys were watching television with the typical shows one expected around these times. The Arnamon did not mind that she was alone, if one could even call it that since she was less than 10 meters away from them. Quite the opposite was the case, as it meant she could surprise them with an unrivaled feast.
She did so with a warm smile of contentment on her muzzle. It had taken her many weeks and months to adapt to the new conditions of her life, but acceptance and lust for life had eventually returned to her spirit. While Owy was no longer her dearly beloved, the bond of kindred spirits they shared had remained - and with someone as lovely as Logan as her nephew, there was truly no reason to be sad. She had a family, great friends, a wonderful career at P.R.O.F.I.T. ... and she was so thankful for that.
Humming 'Kling Glöckchen', she sliced the cooked potatoes in front of her into tiny pieces alongside gherkins, onions, boiled eggs and pork-sausage. All ingredients were put inside a large, vitreous bowl and doused in a special sauce made out of mayonnaise, yoghurt, vinegar, pepper and paprika powder. Mixing it, she let the deluxe potato salad rest as she turned her attention to the two frying pans inside which aromatic meat roasted. The first contained Bratwurst, the other rissoles.
It did not take long before everything was ready to be savored. Utilizing her telekinesis, she brought the bowl and plates with cooked meat to the dining table, where everything else was already set and done. "The buffet is open!" The Arnamon announced with a jocular tone to her voice, immediately gaining the attention of three hungry and delighted gazes. Turning the TV off, the three male digimons sat down at the table and took whatever and how much they wanted. "Thank you!" They showed their appreciation towards aunty in unison, filling her heart with pride and warmth. Nothing was more fulfilling than making those she loved happy.
With BBQ-sauce and mustard at hand, the silver digimon dined as well, throwing modesty out of the window despite already having eaten half a turkey together with Colin, Bellamy the Impmon and Luke the Elecmon. It was a day of pleasure after all, and a little bit of excess every now and then did not hurt, especially if one deserved it. She of course would never claim to have earned it, yet often gained this sentiment due to the kind words and acts of her family and friends. Moreover, being a good digimon did not automatically mean absolute abstinence for everything that was enjoyable in life.
It was at their leisure that they relished their tasty dinner while sharing stories of their most recent adventures. As often, the little Offmon was excited to hear from Cion's tales in which she kicked the tushies of as many evil people as possible. It was the daily grind of her occupation and she was happy to share her experiences with her treasured nephew to inspire him to accomplish great deeds as well. Since he already was the partner of a benevolent human, all he needed to do now was becoming stronger to digivolve - but that was a story for another day.
When they were done eating and sharing their stories, the most enjoyable part of Christmas occurred, which of course was opening presents. As a matter of course, Logan was the first to rush to the fir tree and open up his gifts. Among them were many toys, but also a couple of accessories he might wear in the near or distant future. Owen received a new set of prestine gloves and a dog tag, Koharu got dashing sunglasses and a dragon-pendant, and Cion was given Little Trees for Vertigo and a fine, new ocarina.
With gifts, hugs and smiles exchanged, they four of them played together with all the awesome new toys of the young Offmon. Just as it was meant to be, they honored the spirit of Yuletide by spending time with each other and enjoying it greatly. It reminded them of what was most important once everything else was put aside. Items and wealth were only temporarily capable of granting happiness - but family, if cared for properly, lasted eternally.
It was something Cion had almost forgotten just a short time ago... and she was all the more glad about that she ultimately had not.
