Unfortunately for the Worm King, Wormmon's bark is tougher than his bite. Wormmon suffers recoil damage from attacking Fugamon, due to his spiky exterior. It becomes clear that if they are looking to handle Fugamon, they will need to attack from range. Fugamon responds with a sweeping roundhouse, sending nearby enemies flying back. Wormmon crash lands against a small slope, and rolls to the bottom. As he gets up, a rock falls on his head.
"Argh! Okay then. Change of plans. No more Rambo mode."
Wormmon starts frantically crawling away from the berserk Champion level. His wounds are starting to bleed out, as his health slowly trickles away. At the Rookie stage, there isn't much Wormmon can do against a Champion, but that isn't going to stop the maniacal little bug. Dante watches on from a safe distance, concerned for his partner.
"Don't give up now, Wormmon. Learn from your mistake, and continue retreating to a safe distance." "Right! We'll win this battle yet. Just gotta take a quick break here."
Wormmon crawls across the ground far enough away from Fugamon, and takes cover behind a large rock. Hopefully the battle will turn in their favor, now that they know not to engage the Champion at close range. Once the dark ring is broken, they can bring down the spire with ease.
"Ha, ha, ha... Oh mon. I could really go for a milkshake right about now. Fugamon's lucky I can't Digivolve to Stingmon. Then I would really give 'em the stinger!" ___________________

Toki had the right idea on how to approach the enslaved Fugamon, but ultimately it was upon his allies to heed it or not. As for the barbaric vessel of corruption itself, it barely made notice of the Turuiemon's words and actions, allowing bipedal bunny to escape unscathed. For as long as the dark spire was save nothing else mattered to the vitiated sentinel.
Tahir on the other hand did when the poor lad approached the edge of the battlefield, resting his M16 as to take care of the inexperienced yet brave fighter. "Don't be so harsh on yourself. You did good, and the fight is far from over." The BlackCommandramon encouraged the spirit wielding human to look forward with passion instead of submitting to despondency.
Drawing a stimpack out of his pockets, he broke the vessel near Toki's arm, infusing him with a mist of painkillers and several stimulating ingredients. "Here, that will help. As for water... I don't think so. We're surrounded by jungle after all. To be honest, I believe this aquatic form is quite disadvantageous in this battle." The reptilian soldier stated honestly, unaware of any method to bring the vast ocean to them and the black obelisk.
With the temporarily cowardly Wormmon retreating, the Fugamon focused all of its attention to the serpentine Tylomon. Casimeir acted in continued defiance, hurling another set of torpedoes at the orange brown ogre, adding further scars and cracks to its dark. It responded with an ear-deafening bellow before conjuring a ball-lightning in its hand. Sparks sizzled loudly when the corrupted adversary launched the sphere upwards and striking it with a downward smash as if it was a tennis ball.
The hyper-charged construct whizzed with great velocity through the air and towards both Casimeir and the nearby John, threatening to shock them with high voltage force.

Not good. With an electricity-based attack hurling toward their direction, John quickly mounted Casimeir who narrowly evaded it by "swimming" through the air close to the ground while making a beeline toward Tahir. John groaned quietly, keeping his eyes on the Fugamon while the pair made their tactical maneuver. "We really need to unlock some new abilities for you, Cas!"
Casimeir glided to a halt alongside Tahir and Toki. "We need to keep him distracted for the time-being while my Torpedoes Away recharges. Any ideas?" He winced and grunted, some data bleeding from his wound.

A distraction...Toki pondered what he could possibly do to aid the team in that way. There were trees in the area. Perhaps he could use those to his advantage. While Fugamon was busy attacking Cas, he began to climb one of the trees and balanced on the branches carefully to assess the situation. It was his hope that if he attacked from above, it would anger the Fugamon sufficiently to try and reach him. That could buy everyone enough time to get themselves settled and give Tahir a decent shot.
Once more, since it was the only attack option he had that was safe, Toki charged up his attack "Earth-Splitting Palm!" and shot through the trees to strike the dark ring around Fugamon. He remained in the trees and moved between them carefully so he could be prepared to move in any direction he had to. He hoped this would work. He knew Cas and Wormmon were still in rough shape, Wormmon more so given their Rookie status. Still, with any luck they would have time to recover.
"Don't overthink this, Toki. We're doing well. Just keep your mind calm regardless of what happens." his spirit said to him. It worried about how easy it was to shake Toki's confidence. The spirit greatly appreciated Tahir's guidance in this difficult battle. Overall this spire business was new and highly concerning for the spirit. If this was something that was happening more often throughout the Digital World, he wanted to help Toki gain the strength to help fight against them and whatever was causing it.

With Wormmon off the radar for now, the Worm King has a chance to recover, and come up with a new game plan. The Fugamon is a lot stronger than Wormmon in his Rookie form, and at best, all he can do is chip away at the Champion. Dante is helpless to aid his partner, standing on the sidelines watching the battle unfold. Wormmon punches his tiny little leg in the front into his other leg, frowning at the Fugamon.
"You think you're so bad, ogre, but the only thing strong about you is your breath. Woo, it's even worse than Dante's!"
While Casimeir is retreating to take a breather, Toki takes to the tress to attack Fugamon. Wormmon takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself down and steady his arm.
"Oh mighty Ares, God of War and awesome beards, may my aim be true. Dark Seed!"
Wormmon leans forward and raises his tail. His stinger launches a seed, sending it flying towards Fugamon. With any luck, it would lodge itself into the dark ring, slowly absorbing energy, and restoring Wormmon's health over time. Maybe it would miss the ring, but still reach Fugamon. Wormmon is well outside melee range, so it's not certain that his attack will hit its target.
"Good thinking, Wormmon. If that attack works, you'll be able to stay in the fight longer."
Wormmon lacks party buffs at this stage, so there is only so much he can do. If only Dante had found a Digi egg so Wormmon could fight at the Armor Champion stage. Maybe he would go exploring the Digital World for such an item, like in the desert or something. Nonetheless, Wormmon is never one to back down from a challenge. _________________

Its damp cloud had missed, and the prey was scuttling away like the cowards they were? When beholding this the Fugamon naturally started growling, taking its imposed role as a corrupted sentinel extremely seriously... or at least the dark forces controlling it spawned such sentiments. But just as it tried to pursue the two fainthearts, a blast of physical force impacted with its black ring, causing it to groan and shift its focus. There it was again, that pesky and feeble Turuiemon, hiding within the top of the trees. Another recreant to smash...
Not even noticing the puny Wormmon's seed lodging into the scourge manipulating it, or Tahir firing a burst of small ammo at it, the orange brown ogre roared and lifted its bony club high. With as much power as it could muster, the not so intelligent troll swung it downwards, striking the solid ground beneath it. A booming bursting echoed throughout the tropical glade, a swath of destruction heading towards Toki. Earth and rock tore upwards in sharp, ragged gobbets, grass ripped out of the soil, leaving nothing but a strip of demolition behind - one that sought to root out the very trees which served as shelter for the hare-esque fighter.

Casimeir did his best to ignore the pain which he endured for the time being. He couldn't just sit by and attack every other chance that he had. Limited abilities or no, the Tylomon decided that he would push through this battle and help his team overcome as the victors. As one of the only Armor Digimon, everyone was relying on him.
The Tylomon bared his whale-like teeth while determination swelled. "Hey, troll! They aren't your targets, I am!" Casimeir thrust himself forward with the force of a runaway freight train.
To others, it might seem that he was going for another attack that utilized his armored muzzle. But the Tylomon instead used his momentum to spin and attempt to land a hard tail strike to Fugamon's ring. He knew he would get hurt in turn, but this fight had to end quickly. "Heavy Anchor!"

Fugamon's wave of destruction made Toki lose some balance while he stood in the tree. He had to move quickly otherwise he would end up crushed by the fallen trees. He leaped from the branches and kicked off another tree that was falling. During his fall to the ground, he tried his best to throw another Earth-Splitting Palm at the dark ring before he landed on the ground with a roll.
This was not a good situation for him to be in. At least everyone was separated so Fugamon's area attacks couldn't hit everyone if it came down to it. Casimeir's next attack was a welcome distraction, but he worried that he was pushing himself too far. How much longer could he last attacking the ogre with physical attacks? At the very least he hoped that Fugamon was still open for another attack from Tahir.
He looked around and tried to gauge his next move, though it would largely depend on what happened next. He was winded due to the escape from Fugamon's impromptu deforestation and had to catch his breath. This would likely leave him open for a little while.

After a tactful retreat, or rather fleeing in terror, Wormmon was ready to really bring it against the massive ogre. The Dark Seed had lodged into the Dark Ring around Fugamon's neck. The Champion turns his attention to Toki, slamming his bone club down and sending a massive force of energy towards the tree Toki was in. The Tylomon steps it up, drawing the attention of Fugamon and targeting the ring with a powerful strike of their tail. Off Fugamon's radar for the moment, The Worm King decides to move in closer.
Wormmon crawls as fast as his little legs can propel him forward, making a bee line right to the ogre. Wormmon attempts to jump up onto Ogremon's leg and crawl onto his back. If Wormy is able to hold on, he might be able to reach the Dark Ring. Wormmon can feel his injuries healing, as the Dark Seed transfers energy from the ring. ______________

At first, the enslaved Fugamon laughed full-throatedly when sawing how the puny, bipedal rabbit hopped from branch to branch in a feeble attempt to escape the earthy fissure. Despite the fact that Toki had narrowly escaped the attack, the corrupted guardian kept on cackling, amused by its atony. That was at least until the exhausted launched another projectile of pure physical force at the orange brown ogre, turning the laughter into a bellow. To young Akiyama's fortune however, any retaliation got prevented by the aquatic partner of John - Casimeir the Tylomon.
Groaning, the Fugamon shifted its body to face the earthbound fish, obliging his wish to be the main course of an unknown will. Just as it raised its bony cudgel to smash Casimeir, it felt the cold, sticky touch of Wormmon's many legs on its back, causing it to stagger. Irritated yet unable to reach the green pest, the brawny beast violently swung its weapon all around him in vain, not even attempting to strike the Tylomon despite within its grasp.
That bothersome insect was simply too much for the simpleton to handle, taking away all of its focus for the moment. Not even Tahir's small-bore projectiles increasing the amounts of dents and cracks on the black ring changed that status quo.

It absolutely pained John to the core, witnessing the Tylomon struggle like this against his corrupted opponent. His mind was made up; once this was over, the partnered human would assist Casimeir in getting some new moves. Ones that wouldn't have to rely on water. Most battles that involved Armor Digivolution would likely take place on land, after all. "Don't give up, Casimeir!"
The Tylomon took the Fugamon's recent attack head-on while bellowing a dissatisfied grunt of anguish. The attack had knocked Casimeir away a good twenty feet away, but it was just as well; his torpedoes were ready to strike again! "Torpedoes Away!"
Casimeir was nothing if not tenacious. If anything else, this battle was a learning experience for human and Digimon alike. John continued to wait on the outskirts of the fight with hope in his eyes, fighting against every fiber within his being that screamed for him to charge the field and punch the Fugamon himself.

Toki worried for Casimeir and wanted this battle to be over soon. For everyone else's sake. Fugamon, at least while possessed, seemed to gloat over those smaller than it was. What it perceived as being weaker than it was. He wouldn't let that get to him. He wouldn't overextend. It would leave him and his allies open if he did so. He took a deep breath to compose himself. There was a strange tranquil air around him as he regained the strength to fight. Thanks to Tahir's healing and being far enough away from Evil Hurricane, Toki was ready for what was ahead.
Toki looked over at Casimir and tilted his head towards Tahir to communicate that Tahir will be able to give him a bit of a boost if he needed it. Wormmon looked to be in bad shape as well, but it seemed like its tenacity kept it going. That, and slight recovery from damage dealt with an ability it used earlier.
Wormmon clung to Fugamon but would likely be shaken off by the recent attack, but at the very least the group was semi-spread out to avoid more large sweeping moves like that. All that was left now was to keep on the offensive "Earth-Splitting Palm!" he called out, shooting out the gathered energy from his palm towards the Dark Ring. This might as well be his signature move at this point.

Wormmon's tactic seems to be paying off. The little green bug crawls up Fugamon's back. The sensation of Wormy's legs crawling up his spine irritated the ogre, and he swings his club around trying to shake the Rookie off. It seems Wormy would never make it as a massage therapist. Wormmon clings tight to Fugamon's back. He holds on long enough to fire a Silk Thread at the back of the dark ring. After launching his attack, Wormmon eventually loses his grip, tumbling to the ground and taking minor damage on impact.
"Oww! Take that, stupid ring. That's what you get for messing with the Worm King!"
Even inanimate objects were not safe from Wormmon's trash talk. His creepy little legs had distracted Fugamon for the time being. The dark ring has already taken some punishment, and a couple more attacks might just be enough.
Dante lets out a sigh of relief, as Wormmon seemed to be doing a decent job despite his size and level difference. Maybe after this mission, they would finally get some answers about these dark rings and control spires. Innocent Digimon were being controlled, and used to fight to further someone's agenda. Every spire they take down would bring Dante one step closer to the truth. __________________

The relentless onslaught originating from this mission's heroes continued without hesitation - and finally, after a lot of trial and error and desperation, their efforts were rewarded. With the combined forces of everyone's attacks, including Tahir's long-range support, the final crack appeared on the dark ring before it shuttered into uncountable bits and pieces which quickly dissipated into thin air. Not emitting a sound, the same fate was imposed upon the corrupted Fugamon, although to its boon since a free, if confused, Goburimon manifested itself in its place.
For a moment, it looked at those present with confusion until it suddenly erupted into a fit of rage, bellowing incomprehensible gibberish and twitching violently with his limbs. Seemingly instantly teleporting to everyone who had been part of this quest, he gently throbbed one head with his wooden club after the other, until he finally reappeared at his original location and turned around. With steam and emojis surging out of his head, the grumpy gnome hastily trudged out of sight, leaving the black spire at the non-existent mercy of the victorious vanguards.
It was bound to be destroyed, yet for a minute the fighters had earned respite, something Tahir made use of by calmly sitting down, cleaning his rifle. "Phew... good job everyone!" He exclaimed his appreciation and gratitude for the assistance and company.

Well, that whole ordeal was certainly...Exhausting. With the foe beaten and victory nearly imminent, Casimeir's bleeding subsided. And it was a good thing, too, with how hurt and bruised he was. But by the good graces of whatever powers watched over the Digital realm, this would all soon be over and done with.
With no more danger, John could run over to his battered partner and comfort him. His eyes were filled with worry and slight grief, tending to the tired Tylomon's aid. "Can anyone heal Casimeir?" he inquired the group, looking to all in hopes they could help. "I know Cas isn't in imminent danger, but still."
"John, I'm alright," Casimeir intervened. He grunted quietly while inhaling a fresh breath of air. "We need to take down that tower, now." Gathering up some newfound strength, the Tylomon rose off of the ground. His emerald gaze dared to pierce through the tower itself. "At least this tower can't fight back. But John's right...It's better if I get healed up first."
