A Foggy Aftermath (Amelie)
|
Post by Rinji on May 7, 2018 21:06:32 GMT
Today was misty. The fog had seemingly rolled in overnight, shrouding the normally quaint forest in a mysterious aura. But the mists obscured something more than just the forest itself.
It seemed as if one part of the forest had been turned into a battleground; the ground was charred, a tree was cracked and dying, and the ground was stained with blood. Stranger still, a symbol etched into the earth was present, its lines broken by freshly turned dirt.
A mysterious cry broke the silence of the forest and a swarm of Flymon fled from their roosts in the tree tops.
Today is definitely a mysterious day, thought Rinji, wincing at both the bone-chilling cry and the pain of his new wound. Despite receiving it so recently, he'd neglected to treat it properly. The crack in the back of his carapace reached right down through the exoskeleton and wouldn't stop re-opening.
Dried blue flecks encrusted around the edge, and droplets of blue occasionally dripped down from it. He ignored it and rested his head on the ground.
He was at the entrance of a small cavern, having been forced to rest on the ground. It made him nervous; he was a feral digimon living amongst other feral digimon. He was also currently facing outwards from the cavern - although there wasn't much to see other than bushes and leaves.
A small pile of berries and leaves were stacked next to Rinji, donated to him by a friendly bird digimon that had discovered his plight. He'd touched some of it, but had been too nervous to really eat anything.
But other than that, he was actually quite bored. He didn't want to think about yesterday, or what had happened. He just wanted it to be another normal day, living life like any other wild digimon.

To say that Amelie's sleep was being restless was probably the understatement of the year. She turned, shuffled and talked, almost as if she were awake during the whole ordeal. One could even ask if she was truly sleeping or acting quite poorly.
Yet... one could say that the brunette had her reasons to be like that. The events that had led her to collapse amid of what had been a grueling battle haven't been nice, either with her or with her friends, and that had mostly been her fault, or what she could perceive as her fault Not a nice mindset to have was it? Yet, to combat that feeling would prove to be beyond futile, or at least it would prove to be as soon as she woke up. Maybe her current restlessness was foreshadowing how she would actually feel once she left Morpheus' embrace?
The brunette would find out soon enough; a bone-chilling cry made a good job at progressively yet decidedly lift the veil of unconsciousness from her mind. Her eyes opened some time afterward, and her mind began to recall what had happened before she had fallen unconscious and the guilt of what she had done followed suit, tying her stomach into a tight knot.
It took her a while to digest the whole situation, and she wasn't even sure if she had done it when she decided to stand up. Was she in a cave? She wasn't sure. Who had carried her here? Maybe it has been...?
An answer to that question came into her sight pretty much right away, and with it, the knot in her stomach tightening even more. After that, would she able to look at Rinji straight in his eyes ever again without feeling like a living piece of trash?
Unlikely, but... she wanted to at least check on him. If her muddled memories were any indication, the centipede had been injured... by her.
Her legs felt like jelly, almost as if she were learning to walk all over again, and Rinji would probably be able to hear her long before she got to actual earshot. Would he turn around, or just wait until she reached where he was? She wasn't sure.
"G-good morning, Rin-Rin." Even if uttered out of habit, mentioning that nickname sickened her. Nicknames were things that friends used with each other, and right now, Amelie felt like she had betrayed that friendship, and in the worst way possible to boot. "H-How are you?"

He'd been trying to ignore the situation and keep his mind occupied all night. He'd tried to count the leaves on the trees and bushes, tried to count the amount of flying digimon that flew overhead - even thought about counting how many berries were laid next to him. Currently, he'd been trying to count how many small grey rocks were intermixed with the dirt underneath his head.
Yet how could he keep ignoring it, when Amelie was sharing the cave with him?
The fight had been strange and brutal, but he couldn't just ignore it and hope everything would be the same again afterwards. In truth, he'd been worried sick for her afterwards - and a little bit afraid too. He just about managed to carry her to the little cave, checked her for any injuries and just let her rest afterwards.
He tensed as he heard the sound of something stirring in the back of the cave. That would be Amelie. Or would it be that terrifying digimon? No, no, that was over now. Probably.
Rinji started drawing in the dirt instead, not really sure if he should go and greet her, or stay and stand guard. He didn't really want to move, so just kept drawing little pictograms. He found himself drawing a dog, and quickly scratched it out. That was a bad idea.
"G-good morning, Rin-Rin. H-How are you?"
He tried to say something, but ended up choking on his words a bit. He coughed and tried to clear his throat.
"I've been better, I guess," he said, still not looking at Amelie and just drawing symbols in the dirt. Then he finally turned to look at her. He checked her, head to toe, for any injuries he might've missed now that she was standing. She looked just as he remembered her in the human world, and for that brief moment when he'd seen her running through the woods.
"There's some berries and herbs," he pointed out, motioning his head to the two piles next to them. "I think the herbs are supposed to be painkillers."
Was this what getting into a bar fight with a friend and having to deal with it the next day was like? He'd heard about Whitewater Digimon doing things like that. He just wished Elliot and Isaac were here now - they would've known what to do.
He tried to think of something to start a conversation. "I didn't know you were a Spirit User," he stated, and then realised that maybe it was too soon. Digivolution had just seemed like a good place to start a conversation.

Not the best start, that much Amy could tell. Was Rinji afraid of her? Of what she could become? She wasn't sure, and couldn't be sure of it. If his coughing were any indication, the prognosis wasn't the best but... what could she do about it?
Ger feet shuffled awkwardly as Rinji explained what the piles of herbs and berries were, and that actually made her feel worse. He had gone through the trouble to gather food and medicine, for her? The brunette felt undeserving of such kindness, especially considering that the cracks on the centipede's back were her fault
"I see... I feel fine, though. No need to worry about it." That was a blatant lie, and upon closer examination of her body, the Scolomon could probably be able to notice some decently sized bite marks on her left arm; Amy herself could pretty much feel as if some kind of needles were piercing her skin right now, even if that probably was some kind of phantom pain.
The hard question came later, however. And this is when she realized he didn't know she was a spirit user, or whatever those things were called. He had met her as a normal human, and things had gone to hell... almost a week later, or so she thought.
Amelie let out a sigh, and decided to sit next to where her friend currently was, yet not daring to touch him; she didn't know if he wanted to be touched, or if he even wanted for her to be near him, but she just felt the compulsion to do it.
"It's a bit of... a long story." She began, not really sure how to explain the whole deal. "Take you wanna hear it? I honestly... didn't ask for any of this." Darn, why her eyes had to begin watering right now? Was she that pitiful? She tried to swallow those tears away before finally saying. "I really didn't mean to injure anyone. I'm so sorry, Rin-Rin."
After all... Rin had been her first friend since she had arrived to Japan, hadn't him? Losing his friendship would be devastating to her.

Rinji saw the bite mark on Amy's arm again and cringed a bit. He barely even remembered giving it to her, having been shocked that he could even do something like that. He'd tried to clean the wound with leaves and water while Amelie was asleep for fear of giving her some kind of infection, although he couldn't confess to having done a great job.
The wound itself was still unbandaged and the water he'd used had been straight from the river. At least the water was clean and pure here, and he knew which plants were poisonous or not. She said she felt fine, so she'd hopefully be okay.
He watched her sit down on the ground next to him. In truth, she also seemed quite shaken by the whole ordeal. It wasn't a happy morning to say the least. It was still as misty and depressing as it was before Amelie had woken up.
Rinji thought back to that fateful day in the human world. It had been quite a while since they'd first met, hadn't it? For her to suddenly come wandering into this part of the forest and turn into a digimon... well, it had to be a long story, right?
"Well, I guess it's been a long time." He thought back again to the little adventure they'd all had when they first became friends. It was one of the few memories he still held fondly. Although he'd also liked Elliot and Isaac, he inwardly felt closer to Amy. She'd been the one that'd found him and carried him back to the terminal; one of his only friends apart from Coolmon and the aforementioned twins.
Humans were hard to keep track of, he realised. At least when you met other digimon, you could visit their home or bump into them during a trip to the city. But humans were a literal world away.
"I can listen," he told her, wanting to know what had happened since all that time. She hadn't asked for any of this... was it his fault for leading her to the Digital World?
Out of chance, Rinji looked into her eyes. Was she tearing up? Maybe he shouldn't have asked -
"I-It's okay," he stuttered, trying to comfort her. He really didn't want her to cry. After all, it was just a horrible accident, right? Accidents happened.
Speaking of accidents...
"I'm sorry about your arm as well," he admitted. He'd wanted to apologise to her about it for a while now, although he still couldn't quite remember how he'd done it. But there were no other Scolomon in this forest and he knew the bite mark matched up perfectly to him.
"I did try cleaning it... but I'm not very good with bandages," he referred to his forelegs. Sometimes it could be a real pain, having to alternate between picking things up with your mouth or trying to grasp things with arms that were really better suited for walking. And having to use your mouth to bandage someone wasn't really hygienic.

That answer had exactly been what Amy had expected, more or less. Was she in the shape to recount the whole story? She didn't know, and probably wouldn't ever unless she tried.
Taking a deep breath, the brunette tried to swallow the knot on her throat before beginning to speak. Sure, her tone sounded unsure and her voice was a little strained, but at least she could talk more or less normally. "After returning you back to the Digital World, I met this person while I was shopping at a mall, and then... my phone kinda transformed into this thing." Unceremoniously, she brought out her D-Tector from the pocket of her skirt, pretty much throwing it into the ground. After getting it, it began to just... lead me until I found these strange 'spirits', 'totems', or whatever the heck they're called and sucked them in."
Truth was, that ever since she had gotten her digivice, she hadn't had much choice in the matter. "It's so complicated... on my own will, I've traveled towards the Digital World... two, maybe three times? But I've lost count of the times when I've just... woken up, in a random part of this world, wondering where am I and trying to get back. It's a bit... scary; somebody having control of your actions or being able to influence them without having a say in the matter, you know?"
Amelie wasn't going to pity herself. She wiped the forming tears from her eyes before continuing. "Thus far, the spirits themselves hadn't been hostile without a good reason to do; at best, they seemed like they were chasing after some kind of cryptic goal, or something I definitely can't understand, but... today was different; this time, there wasn't them just prodding at me, or directly taking control of my body and making me wake up wherever they wanted to. They pretty much screamed at me to get where the seal thing was, and... the rest is really confusing. It felt almost like my head was spinning, but I somehow I saw you and I just didn't want to injure you or... anyone. Really."
A long sigh ensued. Truth was that she wasn't sure on how to feel anymore. "I'm not sure what these things want, or why they need me to get what they want but I think that back there... they felt like something was wrong. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been as forceful. Or aggressive..."
Another sigh ensued as a lazy hand began to course through Rinji's carapce, taking special care to not touch the fractured plates. Amy grimaced; she had pulled a number, hadn't she? "You don't have to apologize about my arm. You... honestly did more for me than what I deserved, anyway." A small, awkward silence followed suit. "You should've left me there, in the clearing. You just... put yourself at risk; what if I evolve again and decide you're a threat or... worse?"
In all honesty, the idea terrified her. Just looking at Rinji's fractured carapace was enough for her stomach to become a knotted mess. Imagining his body broken and sprawled in the floor was way more than what she could bear.
The brunette nodded at Rinji's words, deciding to start being useful instead of a hindrance for her friend. She remembered having some bandages on her backpack, and if the leaves were painkillers... she was starting to have an idea. Of course, she'd first take care of Rinji's wounds, attempting to close the wound on her back, or at least make it less uncomfortable.
"Hold still." Amelie said as she got up to work. She hadn't ever bandaged an arthropod, but... how hard could it be? Her arm could wait.

Hearing Amy recount her tale resulted in a kind of respectful silence from Rinji. Even when she threw her digivice onto the floor, he didn't say a word. He just watched it hit the ground and looked back to Amy. It was a solemn sight, both seeing and hearing the pain in Amelie's words.
Never would he think that learning of and becoming part of the Digital World would be so painful for her. Perhaps if he'd have just turned right back when he realised he was in the human world... he could've saved her so much trouble. Or better yet, if he had just never taken the wrong Trailmon and went to Terminus City like he'd meant to.
The question of whether it would've even made a difference still rested gently on his mind. It also seemed like there was far more to the story than what met the eyes - and he briefly wondered who the mysterious person she'd met at the mall was.
Amelie mentioned totems... so that must've been what happened yesterday. He'd hardly even heard of them before, but now it seemed sort of obvious, really. They were mysterious objects with mysterious powers; he daren't touch them out of respect and fear.
It partly explained why he'd seen her running so desperately through the woods like that - and why he'd immediately thought something was wrong. She had seemed so disorientated. He nodded to her as she continued her story, not wanting to interrupt her.
It was no surprise to hear that Amy had travelled to the Digital World after their little adventure. Rinji had thought about doing the same thing ever since, albeit to the Human World instead. One world was a big place, two worlds doubly so.
A look of concern creased his face as she mentioned waking up randomly, in different parts of the world. Had nobody been looking after her? It must've been terrifying.
Trying to imagine what it would be like not to be in control of your own actions...
"Yeah... I'd hate it," the Scolomon admitted sympathetically. There could be nothing worse. It was one of the reasons why he was still so shaken from the fight: he himself had lost control. It had been like falling asleep and waking up to find out someone else was playing your body on autopilot.
These spirits didn't sound very friendly at all. They explained a lot, and he found himself wishing that he could've helped Amelie more. Instead, all he'd done was sit on his laurels in a forest until she'd eventually turned up on his doorstep. If he was still her friend, he was a pretty bad one.
"I'm just glad everything turned out okay," he tried reassuring her, wanting to be here for her now, even if he hadn't been before. "Well, at least you know where I live now!" He tried lightening the mood with a small joke, hoping to cheer Amy up.
A small span of silence followed before she continued explaining about the strange spirits. It was definitely odd how that digimon was so aggressive... even that poor Labramon... It wasn't really Amy's fault at all. If they were all like that...
Rinji quietly let Amy pet his carapace, almost like she had when he was Chilomon. She likely didn't know, but he still had feeling in his armour, even if it didn't look like it. The tension from earlier started to leave him as he tried not to think too hard about the day before or the injury that Amy was currently trying to avoid.
An apologetic look encompassed his face as she mentioned the injured arm again and how he... should've just abandoned her in the woods!?
"I-I could never just leave you there!" His mellow voice rose in passion, still not quite enough to be considered shouting. “I mean, maybe you would’ve been alright, but I couldn’t just let you get hurt.”
He didn’t see himself as a hero, but to let a friend get hurt? Never. Not in a million years. He’d done it once and he’d do it a thousand times more if it meant saving his friends.
“Besides… I’m a Digimon, I’m supposed to fight. Sometimes we do get hurt,” he smiled sadly, “but it eventually gets better.”
“Wait, what are you doing?” He asked curiously as Amy suddenly got up from her sitting position. What was she up to?

Well, those were the answers she had expected from Rinji, more or less. The Scolomon seemed to be loyal to a fault, and apparently appreciated her friendship enough to risk his own life for her sake. For that, Amy was deeply moved. Was this what meant to have a true friend? She wasn't completely sure, but she had to admit, it still felt warm. A warmth that she was experiencing for the first time, and that frankly felt... quite nice.
This situation was probably something nobody desired, besides the actual culprits of this chain of events. Would there a way for her to prevent this from ever happening again? She wasn't entirely sure, but she was willing to find out if she could. How... though?
She nodded, a bit regretfully a Rinji's conclusion. The brunette would've wished for things to end differently, but there wasn't much to do about spilled milk. "This is your home? I wasn't... aware. It seems to be quite nice!" Well, at least that cheerfulness was real; the fact that she had gotten to know her friend's place was a small silver lining after this downpour.
Her body relaxed a little as her hand coursed through Rinji's carapace. What could he say? It felt well; petting something and finding comfort in contact with another living being; in a sense, it made her feel a little less lonely around this mess, even if it didn't lower her need to try and find a solution before this repeated itself.
Maybe she had angered him? That was likely, even though not probably in the 'angry-angry' sense. Rin-Rin seemed like he would defend his decision to the last consequences, and that, inadvertently, made Amelie fell... slightly better, honestly.
"Thank you, Rin-Rin. Did you know you are an amazing friend? Never change."
Well, now that was out of the way, she could focus on the task at hand; now that she had the bandages, she began to wrap them tightly around the injured section of Rinji's armor. "Don't move, this may hurt a bit..." She pressed the bandages so they could fit firmly, finally help to stem the 'bleeding' and help the digimon's body to knit its own wounds.
She kept on thinking, what would she do? She couldn't afford for this to happen ever again, but how could she fix it? In a moment of inspiration, the realization struck her. Of course!
"You know, Rin-Rin?" Her tone became unusually serious, yet as determined as always. "I'm thinking about going on a small journey around the Digital World. I feel like these spirits are... after something, and if I can find the way for them to stop being... crazy, I'm willing to take the risk. The other option is just to... wait until an episode like this repeats again."
There was one thing though... why was she telling this to him? Maybe Amy wanted his approval, or just input? One thing was for sure, however; she didn't want for a situation like this to repeat.
Ever again.

Well, it seemed that his attempt to find a small ray of sunshine in the whole situation had worked, to an extent. "Actually, this whole area of forest is kind of where I live... normally I sleep in the trees though," he clarified, hoping he hadn't confused her earlier. "Caves aren't really my thing." Too damp and suffocating - he'd much rather be in the fresh air. "I don't think anyone lives in this cave though." He quickly interjected, not wanting to alarm her. The cave had smelled clean of any digimon - in all likeliness it was abandoned.
Rinji was quite proud of Amelie's compliment though. He loved this forest, even saw it as his own. Knowing Amy had seen it for herself left him feeling a little bit joyous about it.
What Amelie said next came seemingly out of the blue. Was... was he really an amazing friend? "I-I..." He fumbled for words. He hadn't really expected his little speech to elicit such a reaction. Of course, he wanted to be a good friend, to be there for Amy. He really hoped he wasn't blushing. "Th-thank you..." It was the most gracious thing he could think to say. Yet inside, he was beaming.
Even if things were strange and scary, and yesterday had been awful, he still very much adored Amelie. He'd be her friend till the end, if push came to shove. Maybe it was being faithful to a fault, but he couldn't help it. He believed in her.
The Scolomon watched her carefully unpack and handle what he assumed were bandages. Realisation dawned on him. He'd never been bandaged before.
His breath hitched as she tied the cloth and leaves around him. "Stings a bit," he admitted. It was nowhere near intolerable though. When she finished, he inspected himself. She'd definitely done a better job than he could ever achieve. He only wished he could've done the same for her - but at least she wasn't bleeding.
Amelie caught his attention again, this time with a proposal. "Yeah?" What would she ask? It sounded serious.
"A trip around the Digital World?" The idea was surprising. Yet her explanation made a lot of sense. "You think they want something?" He paused, pondering over the possibilities. Over what the spirits could possibly want - and over the places Amy might want to go.
"No. I don't want you to get hurt." A solemn determination overtook him. "If you're going to do something like that... I want to come with you." Never mind that she was probably more worried about him than herself.
"I won't cause any trouble; I can get my own food and I can sleep anywhere." Really, he could look after himself! He didn't want to give her a single reason to say no. When she had admitted to waking up and wandering the Digital World alone, he'd been inwardly horrified.
What would it be like to travel the world alone with potential danger at every corner? And this trip, it sounded like she'd be visiting dangerous areas. At the very least, he would've wanted her to have some sort of mercenary digimon, if not himself.
His injury be damned, he wanted to protect her.
"So... did you have any places in mind?" The wielder of the spirits would have the best idea of what they wanted, wouldn't she? Neither did he really have a map on him, although he did have a self-professed knowledge of the Digital World's areas. If she gave him any clues as to what they were looking for, he could easily point the two of them in the right direction.

Oh, his home wasn't the cave, but the forest itself. Guess that Amelie should've thought about that; pretty silly in hindsight; even if Rinji appearance-wise was a centipede, that didn't mean he had to respect every stereotype of his smaller cousins. "A deserted cave, huh? That sounds intriguing. I guess we were lucky, then. Otherwise, things might've gotten hairy." More hairy than what they had been, actually.
What the brunette hadn't expected, was for his friend to actually be... bashful at her words? Well, Rinji was a pretty timid individual, or that's what she had thought at first; maybe she had been too direct? In any case, the teenager couldn't help but smile at the centipede thanking her for that. The feeling that this friendship was worth treasuring was something that became more and more evident the with each passing moment spent with him.
Amy exhaled with relief. "You're welcome, Rin-Rin. Hope one day I can repay you for everything you have done for me." Being lucky for finding him was probably an understatement, wasn't it? Besides, Rinji blushing was quite cute.
While she tried to maintain a steady hand when bandaging Rinji, the brunette couldn't but feel a bit bad about Rinji being uncomfortable. Sure, the Scolomon would eventually feel better, but this was still a wound she had caused, and that the fact that she was subjecting him to more discomfort in order to treat him felt a bit... bad, honestly.
Hopefully, it'd heal soon, though! A permanent injury was something Amelie wasn't going to forgive herself, that was for sure. But... that became an afterthought after she unveiled her plans to her friend and his response. The teenager was honestly surprised at how he hadn't even flinched at the proposal, just accepting it right away. Wasn't he afraid of her? Another evolution like that in a different area of the Digital World could end catastrophically, yet...
She just couldn't bring herself to decline his invitation. This was his choice, and if he wanted to make it, at least she would make sure Rinji understood what he was getting into. "I didn't... expect that, honestly." That was a bit of a truth; the answer Amy had expected at first was just either approval or disapproval of her idea; but flat-out proposing companionship? Definitely surprising. "In the end, it's your decision, but I hope that you understand what you're getting into."
A sigh followed suit, making a small pause between her words. "Chances are that the one in danger is going to be you if I evolve again, and we're probably going to travel for quite some time; are you sure you want to be away from your home for that much time? Be sure to think about this thoroughly before making your mind."
Yup, that was the best she could say before actually unveiling her plans. "And, well... I don't know the geography of the Digital World, so the first plan was... getting to Terminus and buy a map? Then figure out where I am going first. I know it lacks foresight but... There's not much you can do when you don't know the lay of the land."
Besides, that way she maybe could get a clue or something, maybe depending on the names the places had or something.

They definitely were lucky to find an empty cave here. What would he have done if it hadn't been here? Imagining trying to drag Amy up a tree to safety with the injury on his back was painful enough.
He blushed again when Amelie smiled. Being so lost for words had actually made her smile at him? He felt even more embarrassed now! "Y-you really don't have to repay me for anything." Besides, he couldn't even think of anything he wanted that could be paid. He was a digimon with a simple life and simple desires. Or he was, before humans started to get tangled into his life.
However, that wasn't something he would ever complain about. Sometimes, he had to admit, his life was boring. Amelie had, in a twisted way, made it more interesting. It was also a lot more difficult. Truthfully, he was a bag of mixed feelings.
A bag of mixed feelings that was definitely rustled when Amelie asked him if he really wanted to go. Was he being overprotective? In all honesty, he'd almost expected her to deny him from going with her. When she reminded him how he'd be putting himself in danger and he'd be away from home...
Sure, he was scared. Scared of her, scared for her... "I know." He looked down, still feeling a bit guilty for being so abrupt and headstrong about wanting to go with her. "But I don't mind." About the danger or missing his home. "My home will still be here when I get back, and to be honest I've been in more dangerous situations that I'd like to admit..." Living in the Digital World practically required it. Even travelling to the city could be a journey fraught with danger.
It was only his hard-headedness that had gotten him so grievously injured with Amy anyway. In hindsight, he should've hung back and let her tire herself out. Jumping in with no idea what he was doing or what was going on had been a recipe for disaster.
"I'll know better this time as well." Rinji looked at Amy curiously, "do the spirits eventually tire themselves out?" He was sure that they did. That was exactly what happened when Amy had de-digivolved. She hadn't really been defeated - only tired out from the fight.
The Scolomon stared out from the cave again, pondering over anything else he could do. Surprisingly, he still couldn't digivolve. It had never really bothered him, but he was really starting to see the utility in being able to become stronger. "It's funny..." He started, "when we first met, you were just an average human, right? But now you're probably stronger than me. Guess I'll just have to get good at running." It was a light attempt at humour. All in all, his voice was more amused than upset.
"Bloody hell... I really will have to get good at running, won't I?" It was a realisation he'd whispered to himself. He wasn't really sure if Amelie had heard him.
Anyway, they still needed a plan for where to go. You couldn't just decide to go on a trip without a location. It would be like having a digimon without an attribute. "Buying a map from Terminus? I know they sell maps in the shopping centre."
"Do you think it'll help you get a better idea of where to go? 'Cause I have a pretty good idea of all the areas in the Digital World. You can tell me if any of them jog your memory. There's uh..." Trying to recollect all the main areas of the Digital World was hard. "This area, the Eastern Timberlands, which is mostly nature. But if you're already here, then wouldn't the spirits have already found what they wanted?" He still wasn't exactly quite sure how spirits worked, after all.
"I know to the north of here there's the cold regions." He shivered just thinking of them. "They call it the Northern Prominence, but I've never been there."
"In the west there's desert and cliffs. I went there once... they call it the Western Flatlands
"To the south there's a huge jungle and some beaches, so I'm told. I think the name wasn't very imaginative... Southern Tropics, that's it. There's a city there too, it's similar to Terminus."
"There are some harder locations to get to too: The Dark Area and the Empyrean Skies. I've never wanted to visit the Dark Area, but it's not impossible you could find a spirit there... The Skies are also hard to get to. You'd have to ask a flying digimon to give you a lift. Even then... I'm not sure if I'd be allowed in?" Virus types weren't exactly welcome, but he wasn't sure if they were still allowed in the city. There again, it wasn't obvious that he was a virus-type and his kind were rare enough.
He wracked his brain, trying to think of more places. "El-Doradimon. It's a giant Digimon that walks around or something... I don't really know much more about it than that though. I think they don't accept humans in their walls. I have no idea why."
"Alright, I think that's it. Other than Terminus itself... I'm not sure if you'll find much more on a map, but maybe I'm wrong. If you see a map it might be better than just hearing it from me."
"I don't mind visiting Terminus again anyway. It's not that bad of a city." Some digimon hated Terminus, but Rinji actually didn't mind it so much. It didn't seem like Amelie disliked the city either, as she'd suggested they both go there first to get a map.
"It'll give us a chance to stock up on supplies too. We're definitely going to need food and water." Generally speaking, going to Terminus first would be a good plan. "And uh... medical supplies too," he added, remembering the pain in his back. It certainly wouldn't be worth getting caught without those.

A wide smile ensued at Rinji's own attempts at being bashful. "You're not going to tell me if I have to repay you anything or not, okay? I'll be the one to deciding on that." Truth was, however, that she wasn't sure on how to even the debt. Buuut, she could think about that one later. For now, she just wanted to enjoy her friend's company.
Even though that seemed like it would become an increasingly common event; compared to their short encounters, how would sharing roads and daily routines be? Since she moved out from the parental home, that was something that she hadn't experimented, and with one's family, it was something they were more or less forced to do, like it or not.
With the Rin, however? This was something the two of them would partake in willingly; would their friendship survive the strain and become even stronger as a result, or would their journey end in a breakup, either temporary or permanent? That was something that only experiencing the road together could answer.
The Scolomon's answer had been ultimately positive, that prompting a nod coming from the brunette. "Very well; as I said, this is your decision and no one else's. If you're sure about it, who am I to say no?" Probably not the most sound reasoning or life philosophy, but Amy believed wholeheartedly on it. She wanted to ensure Rinji's safety, but that was more or less impossible in a place like the Digital World, wasn't it?
Then again, he'd probably be safer while away from a potential walking disaster like her, but that was a pretty big may. "Well, truthfully..." For a second, Amelie seemed to be pondering the question Rinji had asked. "I honestly don't know if spirits can tire themselves out. It may be because my body just couldn't bear with the extended exertion and eventually just gave up, or it can be something else. It's probably a bit obvious, but I'm not an expert in the matter."
It wasn't something easy to guess that the teenager was somewhat new to this whole deal, and that most of what it was about largely remained a mystery for her; what exactly the spirits were, what they wanted, and what degree of access she could expect from them were questions that remained unanswered. And weren't the only ones.
However, she managed to shake her head at her friend's affirmation. He probably was overthinking things. "Me, stronger than you? I don't know if you have realized it or not, but what happened there hardly qualifies as me, even if it was more or less using my body. Sometimes, I can probably attain something more than a very basic degree of control, but... it's very far from being a comfortable experience." For now, she preferred to not mention whether he had to get good at running or not, or if that was a reference to find a way to escape if something like what happened in the clearing happened again. Not the most comforting of thoughts...
While her mind was made on getting to Terminus first in order to properly map their journeys, Rinji explaining her more or less what area was about was greatly appreciated, and she made sure to remember as much information as she could.
"I wish I knew what, or if the spirits want something or not, but I'm not gonna find out unless I try, right? I think we can leave this area for the way back, though." Then again, some of the other locations sounded vaguely familiar, but the brunette didn't have a sure way to tell if she had been on most those places or not.
Oh, right! She had forgotten about traveling supplies too. Those were important, at least if the duo pretended to not die from hunger or dehydration. "Yeah, that's smart. Restocking is important, and I'm sure we'll be on the road for quite a bit, so... better to be prepared for anything the Digital World may throw at us." Amy made a small pause, as if thinking things a bit. "We can probably visit that place first, set everything in order and then plan the rest of the trip. Does that sound fair to you?"
There wasn't much else she could say. If he agreed, Amelie thought about hitting the road as soon as possible. If Rinji had any unfinished business, however, she wouldn't mind waiting for him until he finished those.F

Well, that was that. Although he still wasn't sure how Amelie would 'repay' him. "Well, if you say so..." Still, the conversation had turned into a rather light-hearted exchange. Slowly but surely, their friendship would recover, right? But who could truly tell what the future had in mind for the duo? They were going to have to take a leap of faith, and hope for the best.
Rinji thought about journeying away from his home. It wouldn't be the first time, but seldom did he ever travel for longer than a few days at a time. Although this time was different. Amelie would be with him.
"Just... Thank you for letting me come, Amy." At the very least, she respected his decision to go with her. Even as he realised she was worried about his safety just as much as he was worried over hers.
For the both of them to worry for each other was a good sign.
Amelie's answer to Rinji's question about the Spirits puzzled him; they were equally clueless. He could only offer up theories in return. "Well... I don't think I've ever seen humans walking around disguised as Digimon. Even where humans are more common." Although how would he ever know if a human was disguised as a Digimon? "So maybe it's because you do tire out? It makes sense," the energy to evolve had to come from somewhere.
"It's a bit fuzzy, but I remember seeing the Spirit Digimon you turned into just suddenly stop fighting. It was kind of like it just gave up." Had the Spirit Digimon not given up, they likely wouldn't still be here talking to each other. "It was after it did some sort of... hallucination attack? It kind of messed with my memory." Recounting the fight was giving him a bit of headache and that was probably why.
"I guess we're both still new to this." After all, being a digimon didn't give him all knowledge of everything related to the Digital World and how it worked. So how would Amelie know?
Now he felt kind of bad for suggesting that Amelie was stronger than him. She wasn't quite like other spirit users, was she? A troubled look crossed his face.
"Right, sorry. I just thought... nevermind." It was more like she was being possessed by spirits instead of becoming them. He knew now that she didn't have control over her own actions, that the spirits were basically their own individuals in a strange way, but he couldn't quite grasp it. It was just a strange thing for a Digimon to try and understand; whenever he digivolved, he was still the same 'mon. Personality, temperament, and maturity could change along the way - but he was always still himself.
At least the both of them now had a good run-down on what they were going to do. "Better to try than to do nothing," he agreed with her, a look of determination on his face. Standing on the sidelines wasn't something either he or Amelie were going to do, it seemed.
"Sounds like a plan to me." So it was all settled then; the two of them were going to visit Terminus, stock up on supplies, including a map, and cross any other bridges when they got there.
"I... think that's everything." He paused, hoping to remember if anything else needed doing. Although it wasn't like he had any ovens to switch off or doors to lock. Any possessions of his were already safely stored in the gaps under his armour.
His home would be fine.
"So... does that mean we set off now? I've already got everything I need. Unless there's something you need to do in the human world?" Thinking back, Amelie's flat did have locks and keys. The thought she would've been in such a hurry not to lock her doors was far-fetched, though. Other than that, they would be ready to set off and take the nearest Trailmon.

It was a bit hard to admit, but the future right now was... uncertain. What would happen next was one big puzzle, and to say that Amelie had a clue on how to solve it besides a crude plan was a pretty big understatement.
Yet, the brunette let herself feel hope. Rinji was probably the best companion she could've asked for, and for that much, she was immensely grateful; truthfully, the notion of going through this journey completely alone was terrifying. She made a dismissing gesture towards his thanks, following up with a simple smile.
"Why do you have to thank me, again?" The brunette repeated, a bit confused. "I haven't bothered to check yet, but I don't think I'm your parent or anything of the like. Not my place to decide whether you want to do something or not." Was that tackling the issue too liberally? Maybe, but then again, Amy mostly believed in the freedom of decision; the Scolomon was well-informed of the risks this journey had and had decided to come by himself despite those. Was really her place to deny a decision that has been made with a clear mind and without the influence of any kind of lie or deceit? Of course, it wasn't.
"Honestly, I'm glad you're coming, Rin-Rin." For a second, a rush of emotion invaded her brain and, without thinking too much about it (or the welfare of Rin), she hugged the centipede affectionately. At least for a couple of seconds, probably because she realized that she may be injuring him. "S-sorry!".
Current pink blush currently inhabiting her cheeks aside, Amy brought herself to nod at Rinji's words. "I doubt the spirits have any stamina on their own, mostly since they're... well, not alive. So I guess they have to make do with my own; and since I'm still inexperienced and human..." She let the words trail off. She had seen Isaac's Devidramon in action, and that had given her a decent idea about the degree of dominion one could have in regards to their forms, and... was pretty far away from any form of it.
How her friend recounted the fight was something she wasn't aware of, however. Stop fighting, willingly? That didn't sound like something the spirits would do, maybe... "You know, this is probably overrating myself but, I kinda remember struggling against something during that time, after the evolution. Maybe I tried to stop them? Probably not the case, but I guess I'd feel a bit less guilty if I made a conscious effort to not injure you, even if it failed."
Both being novices in this whole deal wasn't very reassuring, but it was a truth Amy had no problem at acknowledging. Everyone had to start somewhere, right? Who knows, with any luck, maybe she'd learn what makes her spirits tick, and maybe that way she'd find a way to rein herself better. Or at least she hoped for something like that.
She promptly waved off the apology too. "Won't get offended at that, don't worry about it." In a sense, the brunette was glad Rinji wasn't afraid of speaking his mind. In cases like this, it was definitely something to be thankful about. But... probably not something to ponder right now.
Their plans were pretty much crafted by now, and there was only one question that was left, lingering in the air. When would their journey begin? Rinji seemed to be eager to begin now, but...
"Give me a second." The teenager adopted a pensive expression for what felt like a dozen seconds or so. "Yup, we're ready to go! I'll probably have to return to the human world every now and then to take care of stuff, but right now... I can probably take two weeks or so off. Should be enough to set us up, don't you think?"
She wasn't going to lie, the idea became more and more enticing the closer they were to actually begin. Eagerness began to set in at the same time a smile graced Amelie's face. She began to stretch a bit; this trip would be pretty long, wouldn't it? "So, shall we?"
There were many doubts in her mind at the moment, but having good company was definitely not one of them. [Exit Thread]

So, the two were finally going to set off then. Less than a week ago, Rinji would've never anticipated all of the events leading up to this moment, and now they were going to go on this great big... journey together.
"It is still your journey though... if you wanted to go alone, then I'd have to respect that decision." He spoke thoughtfully - because even if he was desperate to keep his friend safe, he couldn't bully her into letting him come.
Still, that didn't matter now; he was going, and that was that. "And I'm happy to come with you, Amy." They were going to be partners, in a strange way. A digimon and a human working together; that was the very definition of a partnership, wasn't it?
While he was thinking about their strange coalition, Amy hugged him out of the blue. "Ow." She was squeezing him perhaps a little too tightly but he let her do it anyway.
"It's all right - didn't hurt that much anyway," he replied cheerily in light of her apology. He was quite happy to be hugged, especially if it made her feel better. It had made him feel better on the inside too, even if it made his wound sting.
It seemed his theory was somewhat correct. Maybe if they were to ever get in trouble in the future, they could rely on this? The digimon nodded to himself, taking note to remember this. Although hopefully Amy would eventually get the hang of controlling her spirits. It was one of the reasons they were going on this trip, after all.
"That thing you were fighting against... must've been me. There was another human that tried to help too, but I feel like the spirit did try to hold back at certain points..." At one of those point, it had almost sounded like it was saying his name. "It had to be you. So... please don't feel guilty. I'm glad enough that you tried."
At least she hadn't been offended by his spilling of thoughts. He exhaled in relief - had he been holding his breath? That was silly, he didn't even need to hold his breath.
The Scolomon waited in anticipation at the girl's request. Was she mentally going over some sort of list? Sometimes he did that too. It was too easy to forget what you were going to do.
Well, looked like she was all ready now. "Two weeks is certainly enough. And I can wait here for you in the Digital World whenever you have to go back." Although the idea of going back to the human world with Amelie would be an interesting one if either of them were to agree on doing such a thing. He still had that holosuit that he and Coolmon bought together... maybe it would come in handy?
Anyhow - now began the first step of their long journey. What adventures awaited them?
"Well... Amy, I'm as ready as you are. Let's go!"
