The attack had come from nowhere, the feral Digimon having burst from the sands of folder dessert nearly dragging her into the depths as it shattered her shield and almost put a tooth through her chest were it not for her EV suit, the thin metal disk catching the attack. Leaving the Tamer alive, but her suit damaged beyond repair as the Cloak and Dagger leaped to her defense. The sandstorm rolled in just as quickly obscuring the fight even as Cloak yelled for her to run. With the heat creeping in like a wolf leaving the Tamer's temperature slowly creeping up from where it had sat at one hundred in two before into the fits of fever the D-virus brought on Cas knew she would soon be in no condition to help. Not unless she cooled down and fast even as the sand blocked her Digimon from sight the sounds of battle soon fading in the roar of sand leaving the woman to press her way forward blindly. Until the shifting sands gave way to smooth crumbling stone walls revealing the beginnings on ruins.
Right as the earth beneath Cas's feet gave way to a steep drop. Leaving the woman to fall with a muffled scream into the darkness even as she dug her claws in desperation into the sides of the earth trying to slow her descent. It was though for naught as the Doctor hit the ground hard. The world bleeding into darkness.
Whether she'd been unconscious for days or minutes Cas couldn't tell for certain when she finally roused once more. Her eyes adjusted to her darkened the blood red orbs glowing a soft crimson in the blackness with even the bare illumination of the strange ruby colored florescent plaque that seemed to coat every surface hurting her sensitive eyes. Her pupils remaining stilted in even the low light causing her night vision to suffer as the Doctor silently diagnosed herself with a likely concussion from her fall. Thankfully it seemed to be her only injury as she carefully moved each limb going down a mental checklist as she assessed herself slowly sitting up in the process and carefully leveraging herself up onto her feet. Peering up the way she had fallen the woman quickly ruled the incline to steep and walls too smooth for even her sharpened claw like nails to find a handhold. Leaving Cassandra to have to find her own way out as she turned spying two tunnels leading away from the room she seemed to have fallen into.
"Eenie meanie minnie..." Cas murmured more for herself then to actually choose as she glanced between the two tunnels lifting a gloved hand to rake her claws through her hair only to find the long wild blonde tresses had come free and her fingers coming away glowing a soft red. Leaving the woman to realize she'd become as coated in the red plague in her fall as the walls themselves, the strange substance clinging to her hair and clothes illuminating the woman like pale foxfire.
"So much for stealth." The Doctor murmured softly and then chose the tunnel to the right. At least underground beneath the reach of the sun and the raging sandstorm it was cool and dark. The chilled air soothing the fever of the woman's skin even as Cas forwent her lab coat shrugging it off and shoving it into her infini-store pouch on her hip. Even pushing up the sleeves of her turtleneck heedless of exposing her bandaged left arm and the burn scars coating her left side as she attempted to mitigate the heat rolling off her skin. It wasn't as though there was anyone down here to see them after all.

What Viktor remembered from the first time he became an agent of the D-Reaper was... the silence. No banter between partners, no real thoughts outside of what it took to operate as biologically as possible. In the time he lost his humanity, he slipped into the same state as Genesis... acceptance. He fought as long as he could. Dug his mental heels in his own head and dared the D-Reaper to uproot him. It took that bet... and won. No one came to help, there was no backup this time. When it finally came to the point of the infection gripping around Viktor's very being... he did the only option he had left. Without a moment's thought, he decided the only route left was to take his own life. He would not be a puppet and he would not serve this madness any longer.
It would have worked. Viktor would have leaped from the tallest cliff or structure he could find and claim his last laugh to the beast that had bent his will and broken his mind. But he didn't count on it playing the exact game he played with it. Pretending not to notice, going along with whatever Viktor had planned and just before Viktor claimed victory; It tightened it's grip. Viktor's eyes burned a brilliant red, the veins under his skin pulsed with the D-Reaper's data that filled him. Even the usual paleness of his skin had pigmented red to match his master's theme. But what really broke Viktor was that damn Fox.
Time and time again it would take the form of the corrupt Kajunemon, slaying anyone and anything that it could find. Razing villages and settlements. So much so that parts of the Ruins and the Folder Desert were cordoned off. There was no discrimination. Viktor had counted 55 dead at his corrupt hands. Ultimate, Champions, Rookies, even the rare Mega who challenged him. But the worst were the humans. Digimon usually accepted their fate... being loaded or set free, they knew what death meant. But humans begged. Pleaded fruitlessly to an uncaring monster. Viktor was hardened. He had killed before... but this.
This was genocide.
Months went on like this. Months of agonizing mental torture as the pair eventually found a lair underground and just existed. No talking. No entertainment aside from what the D-Reaper believed it's 'purging' was. Viktor had been used to this, but not on this scale. Days or even weeks without contact to another human. This had been several months, maybe even a year. Viktor couldn't tell. As the D-Reaper was allowing Viktor to rest, both he and Genesis felt something in the large underground lair. Something was here... no.
Someone
There was no wasted time or hesitation. The two merged quickly, becoming that same feral beast as it let out a terrifying roar. It's skull-face sniffed the air, slinking around it's lair as it was coming closer to this intruder. Even with the fur the cold forced a long, hooded cloak that covered the slender body of the corrupt fox. The hunt was on, but the question was;
Who was the prey?

"Of course..." Cas sighed out exasperation and grim determination dripping from her tone as a roar muffled and distant echoed through the tunnels. Of course she wasn't alone. Of course it was her ill luck to fall into these tunnels that seemed to serve as an underground labyrinth for some monster and she the unlucky Theseus. Though perhaps, she thought as she turned to the wall scratching out a rough X with her clawed nails, she was more Ariadne and Daedalus then some hapless half wit of an Athenian hero. Still she had no weapon only her claws and the scalpels in her first aid kit. Nothing that would pierce a Digimon's hide. Leaving her only options to either find a weapon or an exit or if she was extremely lucky perhaps a good spot where the wall was weak where she could set a trap. Either that or buy time until Cloak or Dagger located her, but given the eerie moaning of the wind she could still hear in the room she had fallen into when she'd awoke it sounded as though the sandstorm would last a time yet.
She wouldn't die here she swore. She wouldn't be the virginal maiden upon this sacrificial alter. Gritting her fangs Cassandra stalked forward carefully marking her place every few feet as she sought salvation. She would not go quietly into that good night.

At first, the D-Reaper agent wondered what prey may have fallen into his nest. Perhaps another group looking to fight the demon? With so many trying their hands at purging him from these underground caves... it was a wonder they didn't call someone in with more experience. The sword was drawn with a glint of black steel and curved edges, the cloak worn by the fox flowing opposite of the pull.
No, the scent was becoming clear. Another agent? It was faint, like that of a human. It did not need to be here, it would only make matters worse. Kajunemon sent out a 'pulse' of energy which would make all agents seemingly stop in their tracks. If she truly was an agent, she'd obey the commands. Otherwise, it was another impostor, and the corrupt fox would deal with it as he did the others who wore this scent.
The blade was dragged against the wall as the scent grew stronger and more potent. To the point he was right on it. Just on the otherside of a pillar. The lesser agent would hear the sniffs made in the hollow canals the beast called a nose and then would circle around, facing the 'agent' and slowly pulling off the hood of his cloak. It burned away in a quick, violent, and brilliant red glare. Then the fox leaned in with it's skull face, it's pupiless white eyes leaving a trail of light as it got a closer look.
It froze for a second, then reached out with a clawed hand, looking to simply touch the familiar face. It became clear through the eyes that the 'feral' mind of the beast was in the afterthought, and something more... human came forward.

The tunnels opened up before her into the ruins of what looked to have once been a temple likely having sunken into the earth with time only to be built over. Incorporating it into the catacombs beneath the now ancient ruins. Leaving it's crumbling pillars as testament to a by-gone age. For a moment Cassandra stopped and marveled at them, but then her eyes grew sharp for where she saw beauty so too did she see an opportunity. The sound of clawed feet on stone was growing louder. The noise of steps not her own as she circled around the pillars seeking a loose one that would suit her needs.
Only to stop as a blinding flash of pain drilled through her head akin to having an icepick stabbed through her eye and into her brain. The headache fading to a dull ache as she clutched her face in her hands with a small whimper of startled pain. If she held still it slowly faded. Perhaps if she remained frozen the threat would pass her by...but no...
Shaking her head the Doctor's eyes darkened in confusion. No she couldn't stop. She needed to escape. The red phosphorous plague that clung to her skin and clothes would give her away in the darkness as surely as the soft glow of her own crimson eyes. Likewise she had no guarentee her pursuer couldn't see in the dark. She needed to find a loose column. She needed...
Cas took another step forward stumbling as the headache returned once more with a vengeance. While less intense then it's initial onset it left her teeth on edge and her thoughts fuzzy as she tried to think through the urge to stop. To just hold still. To wait for whatever this was to pass as her breaths came sharp and short in pain. There before her though was what she was looking for. A loose pillar. One she could topple atop whatever monster hunted her. She just needed to wait for it to draw close then push. Huddling in the shadows Cas resolved to be patient. Her plan was ready for whatever beast was thrown at it.
Cas however, was not.
The creature that slunk around the pillar looming over her in all it's terrifying familiarity. It's skeletal visage one which had haunted Cassandra's nightmares in the quiet hours of the night souring what little rest she managed so rarely now to snatch. It's face or lack thereof imprinted in the woman's mind even as her own appearance changed. For Kajunemon was exactly as the Doctor remembered him to be, but the Doctor herself was far from the same. The woman's hair ran down her back in wild blonde waves like a mane. Framing the same face, save for the pale blue slash mark across her right cheek, but different eyes. Familiar eyes, but different. Eyes Viktor and Genesis had seen rise from the dark seconds before the man himself had nearly met his end. Eyes the same blood red hue that had spelled death now a glowing a well-known crimson and staring out at him wide in shock from the Doctors pretty face where she had frozen.
She did not move. Did not run. Too stunned to flee even as his fingers reached out the pads touching the soft skin of her face gently as his wicked looking claws not unlike the black ones that now curled from her own fingers trailed harmlessly over the curve of her cheek. It was the touch though that freed her. Startling movement from the woman like a pebble breaking the still waters of a pond as she reared back pressing her back flat against the stone of the pillar as she hissed out a low warning from between clenched fangs. Flashing petite canines in the dark even as the little woman puffed herself up resolving to be brave. To die on her feet even as she unknowingly radiated a faint pulse of her own. 'Stay back.'

‘Stay Back’
The voice echoed in Viktor’s mind like resounding bell. A smooth, wonderful bell that gained purchase to the happier parts of his psyche. That moment was enough to stir the resting giant. The will to survive returned, and the D-Reaper was forced to cede it’s mental ground. Viktor managed to dominate it... for now.
The creature’s eyes went from the pale, lit white eyes to the sharp blue Viktor worn. It wasn’t Genesis. Not even Kajunemon who came forward. But Viktor
”C-Cas? What... no. You can’t... you need to leave.”
He still had his hand gently pressed against her cheek, savoring the touch of her soft skin as he wanted to pull her into a hug, but could see she was still very shocked and instead brought the other hand and gripped a little tighter. Clear to more embrace than grapple.
”I can feel it in you... the D-Reaper. I...I’m sorry. I wish I could purge myself of this rot. But it’s taken hold... it controls every my every moment. But now it seems to have fallen back. Maybe... I don’t know. Cas, we need to get you out of here.”
Viktor stood up, sheathing his menacing blade as he stood in front of her, leading her to where he believed the exit was. As much as he tried to convince himself, he wasn’t alone. This D-Reaper had done more than simply slay those it deemed needed. It enslaved others.
The sounds of footsteps approached and several corrupted Digimon stood, weapons ready as Viktor turned, holding up a hand;
”Leave us.”
They were not mindless zombies, one spoke:
”Boss? This human is not worth your gift that you’ve so graciously given us.”
Viktor spun around, facing his indentured servants and subtly shaking his head;
”Leave. Us. Now.”
The corrupt Orgemon turned to his diverse crowd and whispered something, then faced his master again;
”Come to think of it. You don’t often speak in that form... Everything... alright Boss?”
Viktor took a step closer, the claws on his feet clicking as he did; ”I won’t say it again.”
Suddenly, an Angewomon, who’s skin had the same faint glow of red in her veins stepped forward and grew closer;
”No. You are our master. Our leader. This human will taint your mind. We will remove her.”
The corrupt Angewomon went to grab Cas, but was stopped before she could accomplish by a hand that grabbed her thin wrist, and bent it into her body. She writhed a bit as Viktor pushed her down, a burning fire in his eyes;
”I have dominated the force that kept me in check. I have quelled it and the only resemblance of my morality is pressed against that pillar. If any of you so much as breathes on her it will be met with a swift end.”
He tossed the Angewomon into the crowd and the crowd slowly vanished. Upset... but quelled. Viktor turned back to Cas and sighed, his skulled visage unable to properly convey the sorrow in his heart. He held out a padded hand, an offering to assist in getting her out.
His fate was this hell he made. With his demons that he corrupted. He needed to get Cas out and quick.
He wasn’t sure how long he could continue to dominate the parasite in his mind.

If her eyes had been able to contract normally they would have been thin pinpricks with fear. As it was her pupils were minuscule slits, swallowed up by the red of her iris and its crimson glow as she stared into the hollow blackened pits of the skull like visage of Kajunemon face lit only by the tiniest dots of unfeeling white. Her breaths coming in short harsh pants, the taste of blood on her tongue and the memories of burns agonizing and horrifying leaving her scars tingling with phantom pains and the fingers of her left arm twitching. For a single heart wrenching moment as she bared her fangs and awaited death she found herself...glad.
Glad Cloak and Dagger would not be here to witness her gutted on some D-reaper corrupted monster's claws. Glad that they would live, and breath, and grow stronger even as she perish. Glad for the little time however brief in her life that she had spent in their company. For the Doctor had lived so long alone she had long since resigned herself to the fact she would likely die as such.
So when the monster's eyes bled to blue and a voice she'd long thought gone echoed up from the creatures throat like a deathrattle she was left unsure if she had found salvation or if the fox had decided to be particularly cruel. Whether he'd run off the other Digimon to save her or save her for himself. If she would feel his teeth at her throat the second she let her guard down.
"Is this a trick?" She asked soft and breathless, and proud enough to turn her words into a demand to hide the desperate hope that would otherwise taint her words. Viktor had struggled against the D-reaper last time as well and it hadn't mattered. It hadn't stopped him from killing her. It only served as a sadistic taunt making it so she could not hate the monster for the man within it as the D-reaper slacked the leash only to use the excess cord to try to choke the life from them both.
Tentatively Cas reached out. The tips of her fingers just barely brushing against his own. Ready to snatch her hand back should he prove his wish to fight. Her small frame tensed for fight or flight and only the knowledge that running was tantamount to suicide made her hold her ground. The twins were not here for her to protect and if you run from a predator...they were known to chase.

A warmth filled over Viktor has he felt Cas’ tender hand fill his own. Like handling a priceless piece of ice, Viktor gently took her hand to assist her and with a little more force decided instead to pull her into a hug. A very gentle one, but the longer she stayed in his grasp, the more she would realize what was happening.
Viktor would ignore bites, scratches and hits... this moment of warmth. This rare, tender emotion that he pressed down was something he embraced now. Something he didn’t want to let go. It’s true what they say about something when you lose it.
He would finally let go, sighing and turning, looking into the darkness. Cas night struggle to see them, but Viktor could see, plain as day, his minions hiding amongst the rocks. Watching with malice intent. He blocked her, speaking as he covered her:
”I don’t know any ways out of here. But I know the cave system is massive. We can lose them if we move.”
Suddenly, a corrupt Angewomon roared, breaking the protection of the darkness and aiming a celestial arrow dead at Cas’ midsection. Viktor slapped the arrow away with a sudden vigor, granting Cas impunity from the death that might have been that arrow. He didn’t assume the assault stopped, very quickly he caught the advancing angel and precisely struck her with an elbow that forced her body to collapse. With just as much ease, the turned fox gripped her shoulder and wrist, pivoted off his back foot and hurled her end over end into the darkness. She cried out, obviously in pain as Meramon set ablaze. His normally orange flame a sinister red as he launched a flame to Cas!
Yet again, it was denied by Viktor; who caught the flame and held it in his hands. Then with a free hand, he intensified the power and threw it back as he roared. The trail of the missile was enough to give light throughout the cave and the explosion so powerful it shook the very ground. Viktor turned to Cas, if she was not moving, he’d pick her up if possible!
”Come on, Cas! Let’s go!”
While Viktor was assuming she might have froze, this all happened in the blink of an eye. So fast that to him, it seemed like slow motion. But the normal eye?
It was pure chaos.

Cas wasn't sure what she had expected as she found herself jerked forward. Her heart stilling in her chest before survival instincts kicked in leaving her sinking her fangs into the demonic' foxes flesh, seeking purchase with her claws to rip and tear and escape, but the Kajunemon never budged. Holding her pinned against his flesh and as death failed to come so too did Cassandra's struggles weaken. Till she stilled wide eyed and panting from exertion in his grip allowing him to set her down once more on shaky feet as she blinked up at him with eyes clear of fear and blood reddened lips.
"Viktor?" She voiced his name hesitantly even as she followed his gaze. Her own demonic eyes allowing her to see perfectly clearly in the dark though the fox's minions were doing well to hide themselves. That didn't however, stop her from flinching back at the arrow that struck forth with the intention to impale her. Sent careening in her direction by the clearly insane and jealous Angewoman.
"Would the lot of you just fuck off!" Cas growled out some of her fire returning as she snarled flashing bloodied fangs at the group even as fire flashed and she found herself scooped up by the demonic fox. Leaving the Doctor hissing and spitting curses at the offending thugs he had gained for himself in his D-reaper haze over his shoulder.

The movements were sudden... the sheer ferocity of his movements would have made many feel uneasy. But to Cas, it might have been a feeling of comfort. Viktor easily shook his own gang that was determined to cut the only string left of his humanity. They had to know he'd lose his mind if they succeeded. Then again, they acted on the will of the D-Reaper and it was probably sending an alarm to them to sever those ties.
Viktor finally set her down, the duo being clear from the crowd that moved in a mob. He would lean back, sighing as he reached out again to touch her, hoping she wouldn't pull away.
"I... I haven't felt anything in months. Everything is cold, emotionless and... predatory. Those I've infected, all had something to go home to. The humans I've killed, all begged for their life."
Viktor gripped only a little tighter as he bowed his head, savioring her soft skin as he spoke;
"I'm sorry, Cas. For everything I've done."
He released her and looked up, examining the softness of her face and the redness in her eyes, taking in every little detail to save for when he needed to strong after the demon took hold. It was clear now, she was his key to defeating this parasite. He looked at her in a much wider spectrum. Memorizing every curve, every trace of her body. Then closing his eyes, fighting back that much more to the ever pressing corruption that looked to gain a foothold once again.
He turned his head, looking to Cas and sitting back on the wall. For the moment, they had some time for reprieve and Cas had a moment to either chastise or comfort Viktor. But he was already in a mental battle for his own mind. He needed every piece of ground he could gain, and all the help he could get!

Compared to the coarse earth and stone of the tunnels Cassandras skin was indeed warm and soft. Feverishly warm even despite the coolness of the underground air around them as she stilled in his grip her muscles tense beneath Viktor's fingers, but she made no move to pull away. Instead in that moment she kept her eyes on his. Letting the blue of his iris's drown out the sight of the skull shaped head they peered out of as she quietly reminded herself that for however little time she might have him that this was Viktor. He was Viktor and he was her friend.
As he pulled away from her clearly fighting himself to sit with his back to the wall Cas followed close behind. Stepping tentatively into the circle of his legs she reached out taking his great bony head gently in her arms as she ran careful clawed fingers over the skeletal ridges of his face. "Stay with me." She murmured her accent curling over the words turning them sweet and low like the humm of a gospel choir. "I need you to stay with me Viktor. If I can take some samples there's a chance I can help you. Let me help you." She whispered soft and pleading as she held his head close enough he could hear the beat of her heart. Nevermind it should have been racing like a rabbit from fear and adrenaline rather then it's current steady beat. Likely another gift like a wolf in sheeps clothing from the D-reaper.

Cas was brave, Viktor had to admit. To take his massive skull-faced head in her arms and hug it to her chest, despite the fact that it was indeed as large as her, if not a little bigger. Viktor in this form was not, by any means, short. He easily stood 30 feet tall standing upright, which is why he needed to be incredibly delicate when it came to anything intimate with her. Last thing he'd want is to end this love story by pressing harder than he intended. As he listened, he could hear a faint 'tick' in her chest, which raced as she held his head. The sounds of her much smaller heart pumping in fear of his visage. He didn't blame her, he hated the way he looked in this form.
If she could hear his heart, she'd hear the sound of a much heavier and much slower beat. Something akin to war drums beating to a marching horde, unrelenting and ever steady. He would continue doing this, letting her take whatever sample she needed, if she could cut his skin, which he doubted she could without his help, but would help her however she needed, even to the point of peeling his own flesh to assist.
The feint ticks of her heart kept his clinging in his mind. The D-Reaper was pushing, he could feel the building pressure inside his own head. Like someone knocking at the door, wanting in. He spoke as he continued to mentally push this force back;
"Take your sample quickly, then we need to leave. This parasite is waking up, and I'm struggling to dominate it much longer."
It was only a knock for now... But soon, it would bring a battering ram.

"Hold on. Just hold on." She whispered softly dipping her head to risk pressing a light kiss to his boney forehead before she release him. Digging through her medical kit she drew out a few vials. Fur sample to start as she carefully plucked some strands of the Digimon's dark red hair and capped the thick glass tube. Data sample though....it might be far more difficult. Biting her lower lip in thought Cassandra dug out a syringe unsure if even her thinnest hypodermic needle would be able to pierce the Digimon's thick hide, but she'd have to try. Taking his great hand in her own she motioned for him to flip it over so she could get at his wrists. Where the skin should hopefully be thinnest and easiest to pierce.
"I need to get a data sample. Hopefully this works." She murmured pressing the needle against his flesh. Time was sadly a commodity that did not have to waste. Not with every second ticking down to the D-reapers return if this move in and of itself was not a calculated one to lure her in. Not with every moment his horde of infected followers might be growing closer. Cassandra only had the hope that Cloak and Dagger had begun searching for her and would investigate the ruins believing her to have taken shelter there from the storm. Otherwise she would need to brave the heat and risk irritating her own infection to find them.

The darkness held... ever present in his mind and ever pushing to regain it's control. Viktor could only grasp to what humanity he had left, despite his appearance. He felt his grip slipping, and the beast coming forward to claim it's trophy. Within his own head, he felt the tendrils of the D-Reaper wrap around his mental body and soon...
Just hold on
Viktor brought both arms out, pushing the tendrils away from his body as the parasite screeched in his mind. He kept pushing and it only tried to apply more pressure. He felt the kiss against his bony forehead and before long, he broke the grip of his master. Pushing it even further down a she came back to reality, looking at Cas and taking in her features yet again. It was like fine art to him, despite constantly looking at it he never grew tired. Not once.
Eventually, the sobering moments came forth when Cas attempted to take a skin sample, which she'd find almost impossible with anything short of a industrial grade laser. Viktor's sword was sharp enough to cut, however, and without hesitation, he slightly unsheathed the blade and cut a thin layer off his thumb, hair and skin would be in the sample, there. He sighed as he leaned back, adjusting the little clothing the form allowed.
"We have to get you out of here. Those lesser Digimon won't hold back long enough. They'll swarm us."
He stood up, towering over Cas as he offered a hand;
"It'll be faster if I carry you."

Cassandra would be quick to switch out her needle for a sample vial as she took said sample and tucked it safely away in her infini-store. She wasn't certainly how much longer Viktor could hold out and as it was she was running on borrowed time. Reaching out she took his hand with only a little hesitance as she held his eyes blue meeting red and nodded.
"All right." She murmured softly before a small teasing smile curled the corners of her lips. "Just try not to drop me. I might not be as fragile as I look, but I think I've fallen enough today." Cas teased unable to resist trying to lighten the mood at least somewhat. Unable to resist attempting to take Viktor's mind off of the inevitable. She hated the idea of leaving him here, but a medic wasn't allowed to falter or die till there was no one left to save.
And Doctor Cross still fully intended to save him.
