Ah, this was all so boring! Sitting across from Yume were a bunch of travelling merchant digimon. They were conversing with Kath, Jazz and Toy about all these really pointless things and Yume just couldn’t help but yawn over and over again at the sight, but she had promised Toy to at least stay awake until their guests left. She wished she didn’t have to be in this place, she wished she hadn’t made that promise, she wished she didn’t have to listen to them continuously talking about all those things, she would be better off just not existing at all if this was what existence was!
Yume woke up, but she wasn’t there anymore. She could feel herself floating, but she couldn’t quite tell where, just that she was floating. Cloudy, Toy, Katherine, none of them were in that location, there wasn’t even the ashes of last night’s campfire. Only Yume was there. She gazed upon her own hand, finding it to be transparent now. Like a window, glass of water or a ghost. She felt super light too, like she had never felt before. She jumped and kicked the air, and as she slipped she thought she had was about to fall, but instead her body just remained where it was, floating. This was pretty awesome! She would tell her partners, Kath and her digimon all about it, but they were nowhere to be seen. Well, who better than Yume and her new superpowers then to track down her missing friends?
She took off into the air, looking around for any potential sign of any of them. Unfortunately, regardless of how much she rose, she couldn’t see any of them in the nearby areas. Just how far did they go while she was asleep? Was she really holding them back that much that they were able to travel so much just by unleashing her as a burden? Could such a thing really be the case? But wait… even if that was the case, that didn’t explain why she suddenly had these powers. The signs were obvious, though: She HAD to be a ghost. She died. They buried her. And now she came back, like this.
Aaah, could Yume not even get some rest in DEATH?! She shaked around, throwing herself in all directions, only to stay still in the air after a few inches. How did she die? What happened? Why did she come back as a ghost? Yume tried to recall, but memories were simply not flooding in. She kept trying to force them back, and memory of last night erupted in her mind all of the sudden. A memory of her secret, inner, casual wish to not exist.
If some genie out there heard those thoughts and thought she was actually serious, they deserved to be stuck in a lamp with only their legs out and being forced to run on a treadmill for ten thousand years!
There was no way to be fully sure, but Yume still needed to check. She needed to recall where her friends would have been had she not been there, yet only Jazz even came to mind. The Lopmon was the leader of some gang in Rustport, everyone else was either a newcoming tamer or wandering digimon, so they wouldn’t be nearly as easy to find, assuming even Jazz could even still be found in Rusport.
Yume traced back the direction of the town, though she did get lost a few times. After all, she had been sleeping most of the way from there. She only managed to get to the place in the space of a few hours because of how fast she could go when she flied, and because it seemed she could go through objects as well, causing her to once again wonder if she didn’t just become a ghost. She supposed she would be able to tell when she arrived at Rustport.
She entered the cave where they found Lopmon, AKA Jazz. It appeared to be in great conditions, not the trashed way that Fugamon had left it when they had their confrontation there. Things looked a bit more brutal, with boney spears and other more violent decorations seeming to permeate the place. Yume passed right through some digimon bragging about a robbery they just committed, but Yume couldn’t care less as she headed towards the main chambers to try to see what happened with Jazz. What she encountered made her drop her chin.
“Can I get you another drink, master?” Kath said with a shaking voice. Sitting on a golden chair was the Fugamon Toy and Cloudy had helped her and Jazz defeat. Or at least that was how Yume remembered it. Instead, now the Fugamon looked pretty victorious, petting a certain lopmon who was chained to the wall by the neck, like some dog. Nonetheless she remained on all fours, not moving an inch, almost sweating at the idea of not being able to move an inch under the threat of losing her life or at least one nasty black eye. Kath seemed to be a in a similar position, though perhaps her instinct to punch the Fugamon wasn’t as strong as Jazz’s, despite being made to wear that maid get-up.
Seeing this made Yume panic a little inside. If THIS had happened to Kath and Jazz, what happened to Cloudy and Toy? She immediately ghosted out of there, searching all the way till the end of the day, flying through the digital world, until she finally stopped him: The DNA fusion of Cloudy and Toy, Logamon. And he was NOT in a good situation. He was standing in front of some huge dragon with no legs, only a large tail. It has this nuclear-looking symbol on his chest, and a face worthy of nightmares. It roared, and hurled it’s tail at Logamon. By instinct, Yume threw herself in front of that tail. As the tail passed through her, somehow it opened a hole in her immaterial body.
“Yume! Yuuummmeee!” The Digimon suddenly called out as she was about to get hit by the Megidramon, her ethereal body already starting to become like dust…
……………………
“Yume! Yume!” Toy called, pushing Yume into waking up.
“Huh? Where? How? What’s…”
“For Yggdrasil’s sake, what am I gonna do with you? You promised you wouldn’t fall asleep, remember?” Toy complained, crossing his arms. Yume chuckled at this, realizing what happened.
“Ah, sorry, sorry. It was just too boring, I couldn’t stay awake.” Yume smiled and chuckled again, rubbing the back of her head as she apologized. She turned around to see the shocked expressions of the merchant digimon that had up until now been talking to her friends (other than Cloudy, who continued to sleep in her lap).
