Queen and General [Cas/NPC]

At a few minutes to O-Nine-Hundred Doctor Cassandra Cross stood leaning casually against one of the small alley walls of the little village with an unaffected air of ease she did not feel. Cloak remained asleep as a Choromon in the front pocket of her blood and data stained Doctor's coat while she held Dagger pressed against her left side. The Zubamon was sound asleep with his head resting on her shoulder, his breaths coming deep and steady as she ran her right hand soothingly up and down his back. Both Digimon were exhausted, but on the mend thanks to Cas and Wicked's efforts and the aid of her Clinic program gradually healing them.
The Doctor though for all her effected ease was far from relaxed as her crimson glowing red eyes cut a slow sweep over the alleyway and the street just beyond it. She'd long ago slipped the headset onto her right ear making it difficult to see by those passing by on the road. Leaving her appearing as nothing more then the tired medical professional she was simply taking a brief breather after a difficult procedure. Admittedly while Dr. Cross hoped the Xros group would show she was rather used to being double crossed as plans on how to track them down flitted through her mind even as she counted down the minutes.

If Cassandra had been expecting to meet the Xros General in person - at least at the start - she was mistaken. The general's Digimon had long left Akla, leaving Cassandra with a simple radio and a rough marker of time. It would have very easy to just leave the doctor out to dry in this regard.
However, it seemed the general had at least held true to the time itself. As the clock on her Digivice flicked from 8:59 to 9:00 even, a voice spoke out through the earpiece. "If you are alone - just you and your Digimon - state the time into the mouthpiece." A male voice, sounding like it belonged to a man in his mid-twenties, spoke calmly and plainly into the device in a fluent Japanese. So long as Cassandra gave the response, the conversation would continue. Well, almost:
"Before I proceed, I must ask: what is your intent here?" The general's question seemed fair in tone, even if he held most of the 'chips' in this conversation. In retrospect, this was very well organized - the general was doing his best to keep those potentially dangerous from simply waltzing into his inner circle.

Nothing about Cassandra's posture changed. She remained lax her gaze only sharpening minutely at the telltale crackle of static over the radio as she listened quietly to the instructions. In truth she had never expected a human. Humans still stood out a little too much in the Digital world to ensure their activities went unnoticed in groups larger then one. A soft contact such as with a radio was far safer.
"O-Nine-Hundred." The Doctor spoke her tone giving nothing away as she quietly stated the time glancing down at her D-terminal on the off-chance she was being observed to lend the appearance she was simply checking the time. Sighing to herself she shifted Dagger in her grip at the question as her mind whirled with how best to give an answer without giving herself away if the matter was sensitive enough to require secrecy such as this.
"I really should be getting back. The D-reaper won't research itself." She muttered as if to herself as she glanced at the alley entrance as if considering departing. Hopefully those on the other end of the line would get her jist. "And we are rather close to a break through what with the application of my degree in biology and specialty in genetic adaptation and evolution." Cas added tossing out the off-hand comment as if she was speaking to Dagger who cracked open a sleepy, but curious eye before returning to his slumber. Hopefully the fact her intent was Scientific in nature and the fact she could bring her own skills to the table rang clear to those across the radio. Otherwise she would have to be a bit more blunt.

Well, well - Cassandra was a rather shrewd individual, wasn't she? The 'queen's' answers were quite calm, and wasted no time betraying her intent: she wanted to research the D-Reaper's data, for some sort of medical purpose. At the same time, she gave off the clear air that she wasn't able to speak freely - and the General, at a glance, knew this as a finely laid trap. It would have been exceedingly simple to simply speak in a location where the conversation couldn't have been tracked, and it wasn't as if this radio could be tracked back to her personally.
Many would have taken this as a signal to simply distance themselves from their potential accomplice, but the General wasn't about to let someone so capable slip by. So, his next question was asked, with a careful tone:
"Very well. Renamon is still in Akla, at a relatively close distance - though the chip is no longer on her. Should you want to discuss this plainly, I can have her open a portal to my current residence. Will that work for you?"
Silently, the General was determining Cassandra's appetite for risk: accepting the offer immediately would have proven her foolhardy, as she was essentially signing a blank check to a situation with potentially no escape. A flat refusal, well, that would have just been taken at face value.
How about it, then - what's your answer?

Cassandra was silent for a long moment weighing the risk versus reward of the situation. She was very interested in exactly why this individual wanted the Meicoomon D-agent data, but they were clearly well organized and should things go south Cloak was out of commission and Dagger was exhausted. The odds in a pitched battle were not in her favor and even less so in unfamiliar territory that was likely well known by her potential ally or opponent. Thus giving the appearance as if pausing in thought the Doctor glanced down at the Zubamon in her grip.
"Then again...it has been a while since we took a vacation." She murmured even as Dagger let out a huff of agreement. Prying Cas from her work was always a chore. "I've heard Old Terminus is an incredibly interesting site. Perhaps we'll catch a Trailmon there and I'll change into my green leather bomber jacket with the medic armband on my left arm and see if we run into any new acquaintances." The Doctor added stroking an affectionate hand over the Zubamon's muzzle. The message though would hopefully be relatively loud and clear to the General in her request to meet on neutral ground and giving him a way to identify her for contact beyond just the radio if need be. Old Terminus was a quiet isolated area of the city or so she had heard. It was a place one could visit too easily get lost or find a little privacy. However, it was still Terminus city meaning that while their movements and actions would go relatively unnoticed if either of them made a big enough of a fuss or if things took a turn for the worst the likelihood of guards being on them in a minutes time was good. The General would still hold most of the cards, but such a location at least ensured Cassandra and her team's safety so long as the unknown Xros General wished to avoid unwanted attention.

Medium, huh?
From what he knew about Cassandra so far, this was one of two answers that he honestly expected, the other being an almost reluctant acceptance to his original offer. In the case of the latter, the General would figure that Cassandra was eager to get close to the information, but the doctor instead chose a middle ground. This meant that she was either being cautious, or that she seriously wanted to consider an ongoing alliance.
In either case, he had no reason to object to her terms. "I'll be there. The next train to Terminus will be leaving in approximately twenty minutes. Enter Old Terminus through the west access, hang a left, and keep walking until you see a building with a red roof. I'll be in the one across from that."
And with that, there would be a 'click', the voice on the other end of the radio going silent. Should the doctor board the train - a good three hour ride over to Terminus - she would find that she wouldn't be alone in the car. Just ahead of her, that familiar Renamon would slip in, and sit down in the same car, taking the seat opposite Cassandra's. Despite this, she wouldn't say a word, unless spoken to. No, she just leaned her head against a palm, pretending to nod off to sleep.

Cassandra, Dagger still held in her arms, would wander out of the alleyway a few moments after the click sounded. She made it a point not to appear rushed as she approached the station and would even pause to change in one of the bathrooms and wash the worst of the blood and data off her her skin and clothes. Exchanging her dirty apparel for a clean set kept in her Infini-store as she slid on her favorite battered green leather bomber jacket and ensured her armband was fixed in place as she had planned. Carefully tucking the still sleeping Choromon back into her pocket the woman stretched and scooped up the Zubamon from where she'd settled him on a bench. Boarding the train she simply arched a brow at the Renamon, but showed no other interest in her.
"Wake up Dagger. You'll feel better after you eat something." Cas murmured gently nudging the sleeping Zubamon as she set him in the seat beside her in order to fish out a couple of sandwhiches. Hearing the crinkle of plastic baggies the weapon Digimon seemed to snap awake practically ripping the plastic off of his meal as he devoured it with a small happy whine of joy.
"Sooo good~" Dagger mumbled earning a chuckle from the Doctor as she drew Cloak from her pocket. Stroking a gentle finger over the little metal mouse Digimon's back she managed to carefully wake him as she tried to coax him into eating little bits of cheese and sandwhich meat she pulled off her own sandwhich. The tiny Digimon managed to consume about a third of the meal in carefully portioned bites before wakefulness proved too much for him and he once more drifted off to sleep in Cassandra's palm. Prompting the Doctor to stow him away once more for safe keeping.
She would spend the rest of the ride running her fingers lightly through her hair as she plaited the unruly locks into a messy braid while Dagger appeared torn between wanting to talk to the Renamon and ignoring her like his Tamer was doing. Cas though had very little doubt that the General knew full well from his subordinates report that she was aboard the train and on her way.
When the station finally loomed large the little group would depart without a fuss or a backwards glance before making their way towards Old Terminus. The West Gate would prove more difficult to find then the Doctor would like, but the red roof was easy to spot. Dagger stuck close to her heels and turning to examine the building across from it Cas was careful to consider it in regards to all entrances and apparent exits before she could enter. At least with Dagger feeling a touch more lively she could keep her hands free. A fight would hardly be in her favor, but dirty tactics had never been off the table for her.

If Cassandra and Dagger weren't going to send any words her way, the Renamon certainly wasn't going to return any. For the duration of the ride, Renamon merely returned a few glances towards Dagger, before turning to rest on her back, at the very least pretending to close her eyes and rest for the ride over. Of course, she had a job to keep an eye on these three - but what were they really going to do, all the way on the other end of the car?
As the Trailmon arrived in Terminus, Renamon stood, and simply vanished from sight, disappearing into the crowd with a single use of 'Kohenkyo'. Like that, Cassandra would be left to find her own way to Old Terminus - once she figured out that the 'West Access' was nothing more than a decrepit wall that led to a dingy staircase. Thankfully, the red-roofed building had been the only one remotely red on the block, and there was a convenient door directly across from the red building's own.
Here in this underground building, past a beaten up storage door, Cassandra would find herself in an old, dusty warehouse. Boxes were stacked up high on both sides, and it seemed like this building hadn't been used for anything legitimate in years.
Depending on the argument, that wasn't going to change today. The Renamon from before, leaning on the boxes to the left, gave a light nod in their direction - as the general himself stood up from his impromptu seat across the room. (X) Clutching his Xros Loader in his palm, the General gave a nod in his guest's direction.
"Hm. You look to have a little less of a 'murderous gaze' than Renamon originally described it." Musing that for a moment, the man gave a nod: "The name's Denryu. Renamon over there is my center partner - the remaining six are resting in the Loader for the moment." The fox, when she was addressed, gave another wave to the doctor: "Charmed. The master's quite fond of these smoke and mirror games, you'll notice."
"Hmph." Denryu simply gave a shrug at that comment: "Well, we're just here to talk, right? Though I might not answer everything you want me to - and you might not do the same for me. Even if we've gotten this far," he rolled his hand over his neck, "its hard to know if we can make anything out of this unless we both have skin in the game."

Dagger would sniff at a few of the boxes letting out a sharp sneeze at the dust as Cas took up position leaning casually against one of the piles as she surveyed the man before her and his partner. The Zubamon would be quick to amble close to his Tamer's legs reaching out to grasp the fabric of her cargo pants with a clawed hand drawing comfort from the grip in lieu of clinging to his sibling. As the General rose from his seat Cassandra smiled showing off the array of sharp gleaming white fangs in her mouth in a gesture that held more teeth then warmth, but wasn't entirely unfriendly. "You likely already have my full name from my introduction to Cherrymon before the mission. You may call me Cas or Dr. Cross. Whichever you prefer. This is my partner Dagger. My other partner Cloak is resting." Cas spoke making introductions as her smile brightened into something sharper and far more feral. The crimson glow to her eyes only adding to the eeriness of such an expression at his mention of her murderous gaze.
"I imagine if you had witnessed my team and myself checking off one of the names on my shit list you'd likely share Renamon's opinion. I suspect she was afraid her name had been added to that very short list in those moments after she'd collected the D-reaper tainted data." The Doctor explained her expression smoothing out into something a little more natural and a little more friendly as she leveraged herself up from where she was leaning and stepped forward. Careful not to shake Dagger's grip she picked up one of the boxes and set it down across from Denryu's own impromptu seat.
"You may be fond of smoke and mirrors not unlike myself, but perhaps in this it would be better to be frank." Cassandra murmured as she took a seat upon the box and shrugged the jacket from her shoulders. "I'm sure you can deduce from my appearance that I have had my own encounters with the D-reaper." The Doctor observed as she tugged off her black leather gloves revealing one whole and fully flesh hand and her bandaged left. Grasping the edge of her black turtlneck she pulled it up sliding it over her head to reveal the heavy black sports bra she wore and more importantly the ugly ravaging red tinted burn scars that twisted the skin of her left side from scant inches above her hip all the way up to her shoulder and neck ending just below her jaw. Her left arm though took the worst of it with the twisted mass of shiny flesh ending just at the beginning of the bandages as the Doctor carefully unwound the first few layers. Revealing the barest hint of dark bio-metal the same shade as the D-reapers that shone with an almost carapace like oily metallic sheen.
"As you can likely see my observations and knowledge of it is far from strictly theoretical unlike most of those currently studying it. I take it this is enough skin in the game for you?" Cas elaborated twisting his words around as she gestured to her own half-naked figure with a casual and confident ease she didn't feel. Forcing her breathing to remain steady, an easier job then one might believe when your heart beat twice as slow as a normal human beings, she redid the bandages on her arm obscuring the metal once more from view.
"That being said too what purpose did you collect that D-reaper tainted data?" She asked lifting her eyes from her task briefly to pin the General with her bloody red and crimson gaze.

Cassandra figured he already had their names? Denryu gave a shrug at that: "True enough. At least, we briefly looked into you, as well as the other two groups that joined up." Did his connections go a step above the Cherrymon? The General didn't specify, simply giving a nod as the Digimon were introduced.
"Cloak and Dagger... a bit on the nose, isn't it?" Renamon shrugged with vague interest, the General giving a small 'hm' at Cassandra's slight poke at Renamon's caution. "Perhaps - though we really weren't considered about appearance at that point. No matter how we went about it, we thought we'd draw the ire with at least one of you." His tone moved a bit to match Cassandra's, though his lacked any sort of warmth that her's would - at least at this point.
The next part, however, was unexpected by both the Renamon and the General. Seeing her poise for something, the fox stood at a defensive stance, until Denryu gave the motion for her to stand down. The infection with the D-Reaper was obvious even from what he could see, but the extent? Well, that was soon laid out before him, Cassandra taking it upon herself to show the literal skin she had in the game.
That decrepit, jagged texture. The red tone and veins that stained her stature. Burns and bandages strewn across her body.
No wonder Cassandra was so desperate for information: she was a living embodiment of what the D-Reaper could do to the human body, even up to the metal 'implant' forced upon her left arm. Renamon's fur bristled in disgust, as even Denryu's eyes widened at the sight. "Quite enough, of course." His tone even managed to pick up a bit of warmth - though it was only natural that Cassandra would return the question.
"Actually, the D-Reaper data itself is uninteresting to me." The General's tone was rather calm, matter-of-fact. "If I wanted to run that, I could have hunted any agent off the beaten path of the Dark Area. Even then, I wouldn't have any ability to decipher it myself."
"Denryu, you're just going to- hm?"
Once more, the General raised a single hand, shooting a half glare in the Renamon's direction. With a nod, she fell silent, and gave a step back. Gripping around the Xros Loader, he tightened his hand, two 'clicks' echoing out as he drew two white chips: "The fox used one of these to load the Meicoomon's data. In fact, every Xros Partner - not just my own - are assigned a chip. These aren't just records - each is imprinted to and contains the full data of a Digimon. That includes the red chip."
Clicking everything back into place, he let out his intent, rather plainly: "I'm not interested in finding a cure. I'm interested in acquiring Hunter as a proper Xros Partner."
He let that hang in the air for a moment: "Provided that's not a non-starter, though, I think there's a mutual benefit we can reach by working together. Though I can't provide you the core data, I'm certain the scans themselves are invaluable information?"

At the look of disgust on the Renamon's face and the surprise widening the General's eyes Dagger growled. His lips pulling back to show the metal dragon digimon's fangs as his snout wrinkled in an ugly snarl. "Don't you dare look at her that way. You have no idea what she did to s~" The Zubamon hissed out only to quiet as Cassandra reached out to rest a steadying hand upon his head interrupting him.
"That's enough Dagger." The Doctor cautioned even as the Rookie turned towards her with a scowl.
"But Cloak would have~" He began only to be cut-off once more.
"Cloak is resting. You are not your twin and I don't expect you to serve in his place." Cas remarked her voice turning slightly sharp as she reprimanded her partner. Though she softened the verbal blow with a gentle squeeze as she shifted her hand from his head to his shoulder before she released him. Pulling her shirt back on The Doctor turned to Denryu once more. His declaration of attaining the Hunter as a Xros partner earning a frown on Cassandra's part. Though the fact he was uninterested in the D-virus was enough to ease some of her fears.
"I will admit I'd rather see that cat dead, but you claiming her as a partner is not a complete deal breaker. You understand though that as she is now she's useless to you? She'll take orders only from the D-reaper and likely view any non-infected as enemies or food. While she wasn't terribly interested in infecting others there's a risk she will try to consume you and your partners or contaminate them. Especially if they merged." Cas explained calmly laying out the facts before them and casting a sharp glance at Dagger cutting off yet another would be outburst at Denryu's plan. The data that could be gleaned from studying the Hunter was worth too much for the Doctor to hold onto her anger. Not to mention having a live test subject.
"How good are your funds?" The Doctor inquired the question seeming to come out of left field, but the thoughtful look that held sway over her features and the bright intelligence shining in her eyes hinted that there was more to the question depending upon the answer.

Well, wasn't Dagger quite the righteous Zubamon? Though the Renamon's fur had risen at the sight of the D-Reaper, she actually snarled at Dagger's response - which was enough for the General to put a hand on the fox's shoulder. "Little guy's getting on our case for being shocked at something that was supposed to shock us?"
"Leave it be. You're the same way, Renamon." Leaving it at that, the next few steps of the conversation moved smoothly enough - Denryu had placed his intent on the table, and Cassandra didn't immediately back away from the offer. In fact, she offered a few points of caution, and for the first time, the General let out a chuckle.
"Yes, that is her current state. And that's before you even consider the D-Reaper." Cassandra definitely had experience with D-Reaper contamination, but Meicoomon by themselves were their own potential handfuls. "I'm aware this might not pan out entirely like I want it to, but at the very least, one of us stands to benefit from this." That much was true, though the next question Cassandra asked definitely came out of nowhere.
How good were his funds? "Denryu's not here to be your trust fund, miss." Renamon's words held a little venom at such a direct question, as Denryu mulled over the thought in his head. "Honestly, the accounting part of it's not something I handle on my end."
"Is that my cue?" A voice cut through on Denryu's radio, the General giving a shrug. "Might as well be."
At that response, another portal would open - but instead of another one of Denryu's Xros partners, another (X) human made her appearance. Briefly pulling the hair away from her eyes, the shorter girl gave a nod. "Name's Emma. I'm a spirit wielder, his sister. I got the jist of everything on recording."
"Well, what do you think?" Denryu gave a shrug.
"Hard to say. Financially we're positive - I'd say we can afford most things, but medicine's a bit tricky. Still, you couldn't convince her to meet at base? This sort of motif's not how you're going to make friends on the level, D."
Sheesh - she'd even managed to get under Denryu's skin! "Simpler question - how much are we talking, then? Dr. Cross?"

"Do you really think I would have survived this long with passive partners?" Doctor Cross inquired arching a brow at Renamon as Dagger draped himself protectively over his Tamer's lap. The Zubamon was as prone to bristling as the other rookie herself though he kept his anger to a mere show of teeth as Cassandra stroked a comforting hand down his spine.
"Truly you're rather lucky Cloak is indisposed. He's the one you ought to fear." She quipped with a soft chuckle letting Renamon's venom slide off her like water off a duck's back as she resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the Digimon's back-handed insult. The appearance of the Spirit-user and the fact she was being recorded was unsurprising. Not that the recording could really be utilized. It would be far more damaging to the General then herself should it get out and Cassandra was all too used to disappearing when needed.
"A pleasure I'm sure." Cas murmured nodding her head in greeting to Emma as she listened to the groups assessment of their funds.
"To put it bluntly I'm fully capable of acquiring the equipment on my own and for a reasonable price. I make it a point to be rather self-sufficient, however I doubt you'd feel comfortable with me having full monetary as well as academic control over the entire operation. Hence my inquiry of your funds." The Doctor explained her appearance and mask unruffled even in the face of both her Digimon and Denryu's own partner's irritation. Her words clipped and clean and straight to the point with a familiarity that spoke of experience in dangerous dealings.
"What you have stored on that little red chip is in layman's terms the digital equivalent of a live undetonated nuclear bomb and I don't mean the little ones they disarm and use in nuclear powerplants. I mean the likes of Fat Man. As it stands there are only three ways of treating a D-virus infection one of which cannot be used on live digimon and the other methods of which will not fully cleanse the infection. To leave even a single percentage of infection in the likes of a Digimon such as a Meicoomon is a ticking timebomb that will bite you, I, and whatever continent it's on in the ass when it goes off." Cassandra elaborated even as she held Denryu's gaze with her blood red eyes which were as solemn as her voice as she did her best to convey the danger. Needing him to understand just what the General has gotten himself into.
"I've been working on another method of treating the D-virus that has the potential to fully cleanse a Digimon or human of their infection. All in all the pricetag would be thirty-thousand US dollars, but if I call in some favors I can drop the cost to ten-thousand. Which includes what I will need in order to keep the Meicoomon pacified and contained. If we choose to make this venture together then I would request you cover the ten-thousand dollars needed since I will be the one cashing in some of my long hoarded I.O.U's. You will retain custody of the Meicoomon in addition too all my work and my teams work in regards to this project being free. In exchange I retain ownership of any equipment we acquire and or that I must fabricate for this project and all data and research discovered therein. We'll likewise need a secure isolated facility to conduct this." The Doctor spoke laying out the bare bolts of what would be needed and required for this project to succeed. Admittedly it was enough to scare off the unwary, but she needed to know for certain how badly Denryu wanted this Meicoomon. If it were merely a passing fancy and he could not handle the efforts needed to fix them then he would be far better off seeking a different cat.

"Oh? Then Cloak must be quite the lively one." There was a tinge of doubt in the General's voice, as if questioning if he'd even fear such a personality - but such small bluster didn't play much into the discussion at hand.
Cassandra's bluff as she started her negotiations wasn't missed. If the doctor could truly handle all of this herself, then why was she here? Clearly she needed patients, and saw value in the information that Denryu could offer in this partnership. Thus, he simply gave a nod, his mask remaining just as firm as the Doctor's.
The Doctor's warning brought a bit more of a reaction from the three. Renamon and Emma quickly exchanged glances, mulling that over in their heads. Clearly, the two behind the General were a bit more concerned about the risk - but even there, Denryu wasn't going to budge. "From the start, Digimon are already quite dangerous. But I don't think any of us were chosen by this world to just be passive residents."
That aside, it came down to the price tag: Cassandra wanted them to cover ten-thousand USD, in what sounded like an upfront payment. "Hm. Its an expense we can cover, though - "
"Then its something we can manage. Very well - if you're asking about an isolated facility, then follow me along this way." Clicking a few times on his device, Denryu held the Xros Loader out - a portal opening up against the far wall of the warehouse. Through the veil, one could make out a cheery blue sky and well-trimmed grass.
"Fair warning, be ready for your ears to pop." Emma had already made her way past, Renamon following, as Denryu stood off to the side to allow Cassandra and her partners entry. On the other side?
Well, that ear-popping wasn't any exaggeration. As the portal would vanish behind herself and Denryu, the group would find themselves far away from not only Terminus, but ground level. Off in the far distance, Cassandra would see one of the holy outposts of the Empyrian Skies - in fact, the General had taken the Doctor to his own floating island, the group standing on a cobblestone path in front of a small manor.
"So will you finally be home for more than five minutes, then, D?"
"Hm. Well, this is about as isolated as you can get in the Digital World."

Cassandra would nod scooping Dagger up into her arms despite his protest and using his form to cover the light tap she gave her D-terminal as she activated Char's locator ping. That done she would make her way through the portal her ears indeed popping as well as Daggers if the Zubamon's whimper of shock was anything to go by. The pain in her ears though was nothing compared to the blinding light currently piercing her eyes. Causing the black pupils of the woman's blood red iris's to thin to slits destroying the bare illusion of humanity darkness lent her gaze as the Doctor grit her fangs in a pained hissed.
"Well if containment fails this will certainly make it difficult for them to escape." Cas finally murmured as she assessed the area they had arrived at making it a point to arch a brow at the manor before she turned back to Denryu and Emma.
"Barring that that Luminas outpost will probably make it a point to wipe this island off of the map." Dagger grumbled out as Cas tentatively set the little Duramon down. The Rookie shifting from foot to foot missing the height of his normal form already.
"I suppose let's take a look at your facilities then. We'll need a decent sized room with a good power source and preferably a sturdy door." The Doctor quipped with a fanged smile.
