Walking With Digimon [Selene & Blackout]

65 million years ago... (Or maybe a little bit less)
This region of the Digital World looked vastly different. Smoking mountains and towering trees dominated the treacherous swamplands. Huge beasts preyed on the weak. Even the sun itself seemed closer; humid mists occupied the deepest depressions of the landscape. Rising peaks were carpeted in luscious vegetation.
The calls of exotic beasts echoed in the distance. They were answered by chilling wails.
Off to the coast, parted next to the jungle on sandy fields, was a small innocent settlement. Wooden beams erected into stilted houses. Electricity ran through wires over poles. Next to the village lay a massive delta, the mouth of a great river that ran into cerulean waters.
Yet what was obvious was that the village had been completely trashed. Sides of houses were flattened. Stilts knocked over. Cables were torn and sparking, hanging limp from their struts. Burn marks streaked across the sand. Small groups of digimon stood sparse around the site, some crying, others rebuilding what they could.
"It ate them!" One of them, a Dracomon, cried as her family tried to comfort her. "My children! Gone!" She sobbed. Tortured wails filled the otherwise silent village.
"You don't know that!" Her husband countered. "They might've just gone into the jungle to play again," he reasoned. "Blackout only attacked our village today."
An few heads turned, some in panic, and some in annoyance. When they saw that they weren't being raided again, they resumed their work. An awkward silence pervaded afterwards. No one liked mentioning the name of the beast that'd begun terrorising this region of the world. The beast that'd made it unsafe to stray too far into the jungles.

Selene had been unsure of what to expect from this troubled village that she had caught wind of, but as she neared the jungle--and subsequently the coast that held the village, she saw the extent of the tribulations the poor folk had been put through. The Lekismon found herself staring at the wreck for a few moments, her earthy cloak billowing softly before she gulped. "...Mother Moon, do grant me strength." A mumble, before she proceeded into the village.
Needless to say she was very...moved by what she saw. Ruin. People trying to rebuild. Screams...Well, that last part was actually more than a little horrifying. Selene decided to at least make her presence known by clearing her throat.
"Um, excuse me. I...am terribly sorry to be oblivious to your troubles, friends, but what happened here?"

The mother was the first to look up at Selene. But her words only brought more tortured pain to her. She continued sobbing. The husband answered instead - the leader of the family.
"We were attacked," he said gravely. "I suppose you must be new here. These parts used to be safe. That is, until a giant monster took up residence here."
A younger digimon interrupted. "It's like a giant long insect!" He blurted.
"Quiet. As I was saying... the monster has been attacking our villages. Attacking anyone that strays too deep into the jungle. We don't know if it has a name... but we call it Blackout," he whispered the last word. The people were too distraught to take it again. "I think you can see why, my friend." He gestured to the destroyed cables.
The husband shook his head. "We'll have to rebuild. I fear for my children," if they're still alive, he almost added.
"Just what makes a Digimon act that way!?" His wife suddenly shouted through her tears.

"Oh...Oh, I'm...really sorry to hear that..." The Lekismon began, listening to the husband. Selene tilted her head at the description of the one responsible for the attack. Long insect. She looked at the younger digimon and nodded. "...Please let him finish, but thank you..."
Like...a centipede? Millipede? Big caterpillar? Either way...something needed to be done. Selene glanced to the destroyed cables before nodding at the husband. "Yes, yes...I do. You seem like you require help and I'm willing to provide it. I might not help a lot but...I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't try."
Those children need to be safe. Unfortunately Selene didn't realize that the children were probably dead.

"Your help would certainly be appreciated. But please, don't do anything that would get yourself killed. Another life is not worth all the help in the world," the husband replied.
The young Dracomon that'd shouted out earlier seemed boldened by Selene backing him up, however. "I saw him! Blackout went through there!" He held up a claw to the East, into the jungle. Some of the vegetation had been parted and trampled, but then faded away into swamp. Tracking him would be grueling.
"He lives in the swamplands. Once I saw him enter a cave," the lad continued. "He's huge! Black and red, you'll know when you see him. Scary. Not that I was scared!"
Unknown by anyone in the village, after a few miles worth of tracking, the jungle forest eventually thinned out into an escarpment. An escarpment that lead into a depression in the land. In that depression, about a foot's worth of murky water and huge, carboniferous trees. On the cliffs to the side, a gorge leading into a cavern cracked open the earth. Strange pit-like footprints lead into the cavern, seen through under the shallow waters.
The depression itself wouldn't be uninhabited. Grazing herds of Monochromon and Triceramon roamed throughout it. Occasionally, a Stegomon or Ankylomon would accompany them. Brachiomon browsed the tallest trees, heads raised majestically out of the water.
Mysteriously, a large encampment of white tents littered the mountainside facing the depression. An artificial clearing had been created to accommodate them, an eyesore on the land's otherwise carpet-like appearance. If night fell, white and yellow lights would turn the settlement into a glittering beacon of light.

"I'll...try not to. I can't promise much, I'm sorry." Selene nodded once more and bowed. She turned towards the Dracomon and tilted her head, turning towards the east and the jungle. "Keen descriptors. Thank you." Selene stated, clasping her hands. She had a path to follow now, and she felt it'd be wise to start working now. "I'll try to be back!" Selene called out as she turned towards the east and began on her way.
It was a good thing the Lekismon traveled often, it meant walking for miles on end wasn't as daunting for her as it seemed for others. She followed the path and kept an eye out for a cave, making sure not to provoke the attention of the herds of Triceramon and Monochromon--she had no idea how sapient they were, if they even were at all. Selene did stop very briefly to gaze in awe of the larger Digimon.
Of course, then she remembered she offered help. She should probably go find information on this bug creature. More information. She weighed her options carefully. The cavern likely held this 'Blackout.' Yet that encampment of white tents...That also seemed strange. She saw those on the way into the depression proper.
Selene was at an impasse, an impasse that ended with her making the decision to go forward and linger at the entrance of the cavern to see if it was...well, the right place. Where her target had been.

"Mon speed, my friend, mon speed," muttered the husband as Lekismon left.
"Good luck!" The younger Dracomon shouted, waving as she left. Confident that such a cool Digimon could definitely kick butt. "You're so cool!"
It seemed Selene's competence as a first-rate adventurer was unmatched. The Monochromon of the depression watched her warily as she watched them. One shook its massive head, roared to the others of the herd and continued grazing at the weeds beneath the water.
The cavern itself was a huge crack leading into the earth. On its bottom, water flooded the pathway leading deeper into it. Towards its top, the open sky could be seen until eventually a cavernous ceiling engulfed the light. It was certainly large enough for a digimon of Blackout's size, however.
Beneath Selene's feet, under the water, were huge pitted impressions left behind by large, round but sharp feet.
They lead into the tunnel, where the light faded into a dim presence. It seemed that the light from outside fought to enter the deep maw of the cave. Deeper into the cave there were no junctions, only fading light. Stalactites dripped from the ceiling, stalagmites rose to meet them.
Pipismon hung from the ceiling, ready to flee in a screeching terror as soon as Selene would enter the cave. Some would opt to attack her.
The unobstructed path eventually lead into a cave-in of some sort. One that would be unclear until Coolmon reached it.

Selene snickered at the idea that she was cool. Well, it amused her, but she didn't think she was that cool. Certainly there were cooler folk in the world that were not her. Maybe a Coolmon existed if there was a Cutemon. Maybe...
"Thank you!"
Once at the cave, Selene was quickly alerted to the fact she was not alone as the lapine adult level proceeded inwards. She had been assailed by Pipismon before. She found she didn't quite...like them very much, so she swatted at them! "Please leave me be." She murmured. This was bothersome. Very bothersome. Eventually, Selene broke into a sprint to attempt losing the Pipismon. All the way to that cave-in.
Oh boy.

The Pipismon screamed, fluttering away from the cave at alarming rates. A few stopped to hassle the Lekismon, but eventually the cave emptied. Now it was just Lekismon and the murky, dank depths of the cave.
The cave-in itself was a pitch-black wall of... something.
Then two eyes flashed open. Right in front of Lekismon. Two slitted pupils rotated, staring right into the rabbit monster. This was the side of Blackout's head.
"GRUUUHHHHHHHHHH...." The creature growled and lifted his giant head towards the ceiling. The rocks above broke free, sending debris and plumes of dust through the cave, yet finally casting light onto the monster.
He stared down at Lekismon. Teeth bared. Anger.
"GROOOOAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" He roared. The air shook. Rocks on the ground vibrated. His eyes widened and his head struck down to try and snap at Lekismon. To eat her.

Finally, the Pipismon had left her alone. That was pretty nice. Selene was now free to focus on the cave-in. This...was black. Very black. So black it makes the edgiest creature seem unedgy. But regardless...Selene found herself staring at it for a few moments until two eyes opened. Two menacing and angered eyes. "O-Oh! Hello there." Selene offered the...creature a kind greeting despite it's anger.
As Blackout attempted to attack and eat Selene, he'd find out quickly that the rabbit was very quick on her feet, jumping back and...oddly enough, not throwing a single blow. "Are you capable of thought? I'm not here to hurt you. I don't really want to hurt you, either."
Was she stupid or something?

The centipede growled as he snapped at thin air. A few loose rocks bounced off his head, further igniting his fury. He stared, teeth bared, at the Lekismon as she made some strange noises. Maybe at one point, it would've meant something to the centipede, but not now.
Instead, he let out another primordial roar. It reverberated through the cave, vibrated the standing pools of water and shook loose some more debris. His maw suddenly began to glow red, flickering a couple times as it did so.
It seemed something had spooked the monster. His jaw snapped shut again, and he turned and began to flee through the hole in the ceiling. The Mukademon's entire body followed with it in lightning speed until it'd finally cleared the cavern pit.
A woman in a laboratory coat came running up through the cave tunnel that Selene had just taken. "Wait! No!" She shouted as she waded through the water. It was obvious she'd been trekking through the jungle, as her coat was damp and stained with mud.
"Almost had him..." The woman immediately sounded sad. She fondled a sort of gun, which had a design suggesting it fired something else other than bullets. In her other hand was a silver briefcase.
"W-who are you?" She asked Selene, suddenly wary now she noticed the rabbit Digimon.

Selene braced herself for another attack from the Mukademon, raising her arms in preparation to block this time. It did not seem to understand her in the slightest. A disappointment, really...It would've been nice if she had made a pal out of this. The Lekismon flinched a little as Blackout let out his anger-filled and SONOROUS roar.
And then?
He ran.
He ran through the hole.
And another came into the scene. Selene turned towards the woman, remaining silent as she looked her over a few times. Was...Was that a gun? "...Is that a...No, I could ask the same of you...Were you planning on killing Blackout?"
A simple question. Albeit...poignant? Selene thought so.

The woman stopped, suddenly on edge, but interestingly did not raise her gun at Selene. Upon hearing the Lekismon's own comment, she stopped and laughed. It was actually full and surprisingly honest.
"No, no, of course not! Far from it, actually." Her posture immediately relaxed, briefcase and gun lank by her side. Blackout was far away by now. "I'm from a special team designated Delta-44. We were assigned the mission to capture and... relocate the Mukademon known as Blackout. You could say we specialise in their kind."
"And this gun? It's an electro net capture system especially designed to hold them. The newest model." She fingered the trigger delicately, as if it were a delicate master piece.
"Oh, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm Sophie, and your name would be? Assuming you have one, of course. Not all Digimon like to give their names away."
Despite her professionalism, Sophie's eyes were full of sky blue enthusiasm. She shifted position a little, then opted to take off her labcoat.
"Ugh, I hate these things. It's ridiculous we have to wear them in the jungle. In the jungle!" Sophie emphasised in exasperation.
Then, her eyes appeared to light up. "Say, were you hunting the Mukademon? How about I offer you a deal? You help me capture him with the net gun, and I'll figure out a reward for you. He's long gone for now, but I can take you back to our camp for some R&R?"

Selene continued to blink her big red eyes in confusion. "Delta what capturing and what?" Okay, but why would you specialize in giant centipedes...? These people looked very strange to Selene. "You inventor types never cease to confuse me, I'm sorry...Um. My name's Selene. I offered to deal with this Blackout fellow for the sake of a nearby village he had been terrorizing. I was hoping there was some amount of...sapience to reason with...I appear to be wrong..."
Which made the rabbit SAD. She perked a brow at Sophie's offer. "Uh...Okay but don't hurt him if you capture him, that might just make everything worse. I dunno, tales like this always end like that...Some rest would be nice, I've been walking for a long, long while..."
