Being honest with herself? Amelie just couldn't bring herself to—she just didn't dare to interrupt the warm moment between Rinji and Coolmon; they were so cute together that the mere thought exited her mind as quickly as it entered. Instead, she limited herself to smile at the exchange between the two digimon, patiently waiting until they caught up with her by the end of the hall.
All things considered, her friend had asked an interesting question. Had that truly been the end of the Scolomon civilization? Or maybe they were hiding somewhere? Maybe they had evacuated their great cities before the disaster struck? Those were all good questions, even though...
"We'll probably find the answers soon enough." She said, her hands placing themselves by one of the two doors. At first, she began pushing gently, but considering that they weren't budging, she began to try more forcefully. And then a little bit more until they began moving.
To her surprise, a blinding light began to escape from that small opening, eventually engulfing the whole room and revealing nothing more and nothing less than what looked like... endless dunes of sand. And blistering heat that'd make Rustport proud.
Silence permeated the room as the brunette beheld what was in front of her. "How can there be... a desert inside this place? This is unreal." Nevermind the fact that, after a careful gaze towards the horizon, there was a small figure moving on and about. It looked like... a worm of some kind. "Do you think we should follow them? Or...?"
To say that this situation puzzled Amy was the understatement of the year. She still found it quite hard to process what was happening.

"Yeah! Questions exist to be answered. I think so, at least." Something noteworthy? Coolmon didn't seem to mind being referred to as a Cutemon that time. Why was that? "I've...got one guess. Maybe some managed to escape. Survive the end, if you would." As unlikely as it was that Coolmon would find the answer out anytime soon, that seemed like the most sensible conclusion to make. Coolmon stepped forwards to push along with Amelie to open the gates to a desert...And a worm.
A worm?
...That was odd. Without really waiting for the confirmation from her companions on what to do, she began to walk up to the worm to examine it more closely.

This was one of the reasons why he liked Coolmon, Rinji reminded himself. She always seemed to have this sort of... hope in her. Though he had his own kind of hope, it was a distant, melancholy type. Hers was energetic and reviving. It did more to bring his own onto her wavelength. In short, it cheered him up.
Seeing that the stone gate was far heavier, or more accurately as heavy as it looked, Rinji leaned his head into it to help Amelie push it open. It silently made sense, with them being the two largest and strongest of the group, to do the heavy work.
It also meant that the first rays of penetrating desert light hit his face, forcing him to squint painfully at the change. Dry and baking just as it had been earlier. Seeing as to how it made his own light source obsolete, he allowed it to fade away.
Still, the sight was enough to make his jaw drop. Amelie had pretty much said it: this was unreal. "I know the Digital World can be weird sometimes," he admitted, knowing strangeness when he saw it. "But even I'm shocked." Maybe he was jumping to conclusions, but was it possible he had been right? He briefly glanced behind him. "It was as if it were some kind of... escape route?"
The theories had to wait, however. Amelie had keenly spotted the silhouette on the horizon. "Well, we do outnumber them," he figured tactically. "Maybe only a couple of us should approach them? That way they wont..." Rinji trailed off as he realised that Coolmon had bounded out to greet them. "Uh, nevermind. Let's meet them together."
Rinji stepped foot onto the sand, sinking slightly as he went. Eventually, he managed to catch up to Coolmon so that they could investigate the 'worm' together.

Amelie's own question had been answered with actions, rather than words; both Rinji and Coolmon began to advance towards the mysterious worm in the horizon, leaving the brunette pondering for a second on what to do before finally deciding to follow suit.
Regarding the unknown digimon on the horizon? Well, as soon as its two peers began to close distance, one thing would become fairly obvious; it was an insect, and upon further inspection, it became pretty clear that it was a Kunemon that was wearing a pretty wide-brimmed hat and was carrying some kind of tools. The digimon was traversing to what seemed like a distant farmland, the brownish desert giving way to the green and red of the fields.
Said Kunemon seemed to notice the approaching digimon, waving at them amicably as they advanced. "Howdy!" Taking a moment to investigate them, it eventually smiled. "And it seems like you're newcomers. Welcome to our empire! It's been a while since I've seen jungle Scolomons. How are you guys doing?"
After that question, the teenager managed to catch up with the trio, and now was panting a bit due to the exertion. Walking through sand was kinda tiring. To her presence, however... the Kunemon quirked an eyebrow. "Is this... brown-haired Sistermon your friend? It's the first time I've seen her kin."
To that, Amy couldn't but stare dumbfounded, first at the Kunemon and then at her friends. "Uh... What?"
How was she supposed to react to that?

"Hi! I'm Coolmon and this is Rinji and..." She looked around. Sistermon? Where? She turned to Amelie before the connection was made. "...Oh, oh. That's a human, not a Sistermon. She's great too, her name's Amelie."
Now, onto some questions. The group did have the advantage in numbers but who knows what this bug could be capable of, really? And there were other kinds of Scolomon too? Well, that one was actually fairly obvious. "...So is this the...empire of the desert Scolomon then? What exactly is this place? And who might you be? We're doing fine. Like, really fine, we're here on an adventure. A trip!"
A trip with her best friend and his friend!

The friendly Kunemon was certainly a surprise. In fact, Rinji had attempted to stutter out a reply, before Coolmon had taken the initiative to introduce everyone first. Even as she did so, he was blank with surprise.
"He... he knows what I am," Rinji whispered to his friends once he gathered his thoughts. Normally, he had to introduce his name and his species. Not only that but... he'd mistaken Amy for a digimon. What kind of digimon didn't know what a human looked like? The comment had left him looking almost as dumbfounded as Amelie. Nonetheless, the black and yellow bug had asked a question.
"The jungle Scolomon? Uh..." This completely threw him for a loop. He didn't live in a jungle. And he didn't know any other Scolomon. "It's been a while since I've seen any... so I uh, can't really say." He dodged the question, getting the sense that admitting he'd never seen another of his own kind might be a faux pas of some sort.
"And yeah... we've been travelling for a while together, but got a little lost. Do you know where we are? Or where we can stay?" The burning questions of 'are there any other Scolomon here' and 'what are jungle Scolomon and where do they live' were staying shut away. It was clear that walking through that door had thrown them into a very strange situation.
One that might've been better learned about with discretion kept in mind. If this was some sort of continuation of the empire they'd just witnessed in the murals... who knew what would happen if they stirred up trouble? And if things were as they sounded, maybe he could ask his questions of somebody a little more trustworthy than a passing farmer.

Amelie was honestly puzzled. This situation was a bit on the strange side of the spectrum; it wasn't hard to discern, but something about the situation just felt... off. And while she nodded at Rinji's remark, the brunette was just too weirded out to think clearly about it. Since Coolmon had taken the lead, she decided that the smart thing to do was just to remain silent and let the digimons try to make sense out of this.
The Kunemon, however, seemed to be pretty happy to continue the conversation. "Human... mon? I've never heard of those. Do you mind if I take a closer look?" Without waiting for an answer, the worm inched closer while paying attention to the group at the same time. "That'd be about right; why so doubtful about the name of the empire? I thought it was pretty well-known across the whole Digital World..."
For a moment, his voice trailed off as she poked the human's leg, almost as if expecting some kind of reaction or something from them; and seemed a little disappointed when nothing happened, then came back to the reality. "Squishy. Uh, who am I? I'm just a simple farmer and a proud citizen of the empire; you can call me Kunemon. Pleased to meet you."
So far, it seemed like a fairly straightforward interaction, except for Amelie being slightly weirded out, even if not enough to not reciprocate the greeting, bowing slightly at the bug. "Pleased to meet you too."
Ultimately, he shifted to the next question. "Housing? Yeah, if you're willing to pay for your upkeep, you can stay at my place, if not, there should be more than enough fine establishments in the capital. Do you need a guide there? I can get you there if you want! It's not very far away from the farmlands, anyway. Maybe you have cousins in the city and are visiting? Even though you all seem kinda lost."
Honestly, this conversation was going a bit weirdly, but thus far, the Kunemon seemed friendly? That was relatively nice, even though some of the questions lingered in the air. Where they were? And... why he didn't didn't seem to know about humans?

It was a good thing that Coolmon seemed to be incredibly skilled at bluffing and/or bullshitting her way through life. She gave a nod to Rinji when he noted that the Kunemon knew what he was. It struck her as strange...Where were they, really? "Err...we're not quite from around here, sorry...Also yeah, humans are real squishy. It's funny!"
How much of this was serious and how much was a bluff? Who knows? "Soooo...We could use a guide, sure. And...what do the desert Scolomon look like?" Coolmon would inquire more on why he...didn't know what the humans were. But she was unsure how she would. The questions in the air would be answered inevitably. Surely.

Rinji was tempted to play off Coolmon's not-so-subtle question. The only thing that stopped him was that he honestly wanted to know the answer too. What did the sand Scolomon look like?
Would they be as the murals depicted? Larger? Smaller? Longer or shorter?
There were too many possibilities. Too much excitement at the thought that maybe, he'd actually meet someone of the same species. Maybe he'd even find out he had a fa -
"Uh, yeah, a guide would be great," he interrupted himself. No need to get lost in thoughts.
Still, he spared a glance towards Amelie. The way the Kunemon treated her by poking and prodding was just enough to rub him the wrong way. Was he being possessive? Or was it okay to feel that way for a friend? If everyone was going to act this way at the sight of a human then he'd have a job on his hands... Or legs, in this case.
As the group began to walk with Kunemon, Rinji took the opportunity to mention something to his peers, though no particular effort was made to conceal the conversation from Kunemon.
"Hey guys," he started to bring their attention forth. "Do you think our money will still be valid?"

The Kunemon had to admit, these trio of travelers were... quirky, to say the least. But they seemed like they were harmless, and besides, they brought a digimon that the worm hadn't seen ever with them! That was already a big plus. Maybe he'd get the opportunity to poke at her once they reached the Empire's main city. "Okay! I can guide you to the city for the low price of one thousand bits. Is that fine?"
Considering that they were totally lost, no prize was expensive enough, and definitely not the sum of one thousand bits... those were handled without a hitch by the brunette, prompting a smile coming from the Kunemon. "Very well! Shall we go now? The City's over there!"
That'd also answer —albeit indirectly— the other question Rinji had asked. Apparently, bits were the currency of choice despite the area of the Digital World. And as their trip went underway, the Kunemon took in the Cutemon's question. "Desert Scolomon are... a bit bigger, and their colors lean to brown and orange rather than dark red and gray. But other than that... they should be the same, I think? No Scolomon expert over here."
The trip would be relatively short, the environment shifting relatively uniformly between farms and cultivated fields to dunes and sand. Eventually, the tall ramparts springing in the distance would make the city a fairly obvious sight.
"Whoa..." Lest to say, the place looking utterly amazing, being even bigger than Terminus and obviously more magnificent, at least at a glance.
A lone thought began to nag at the back of her head, however. Why did nobody know about this place? This was the first time Amelie had seen or heard of 'The City'. For some reason, she had a bad feeling about this...

Bits appeared to be a universal currency no matter where and what time you seemed to be in in this world. Something Coolmon had been thankful for. What she wasn't thankful for was Amelie being poked like she was some sort of exhibit in a freak show. Did these bugs not see a human before...? "I mean, when you really think about it, we sweat money. So...maybe it is." Coolmon would not be able to test that bit theory herself, though, for Amelie did it for them! She gave a wide grin towards the brunette. "Thank you!" The gratitude was enough to melt hearts. Then she leaned in towards Amy to whisper, "...I'll try paying you back soon, promise."
So, Desert Scolomon, while larger, were...also differently colored. Huh. Coolmon took that response in before she spoke up. "...I guess I like my Scolomon better, then." That was the last thing she said before she was reduced to awed silence at the city. Much like another anomaly she had dealt with, the question arose in the back of her head.
How could this possibly be hidden like this? And have nobody hear about it?

One thousand bits? The cheeky -
Rinji made note to bite his tongue and pay Amelie some of the money back later. They were wasting time that the Kunemon could be using productively, after all. For farmers, every hour of daylight was important to them. And despite the fee, the bug Digimon seemed trustworthy and willing to explain things to them.
He listened intently to the description of the Desert Scolomon. Their colours matched up with what they'd seen in the tomb, but the size difference surprised him. "Hope I don't get picked on," he muttered as a half-joke. They were technically cousins though, weren't they? They'd get along fine.
Coolmon's comment came out of nowhere. Was it him or did the sun just get a couple degrees hotter?
His legs almost tripped over himself when the city crossed over the horizon. It positively gleamed in the midday sun.
Spiralling towers, odd geometry, and white-enamelled structures left him speechless. All of it encased in encircling, shining brick walls. Like a castle in a moat.
How did no one know about this place?
As they approached, the brickwork of the wall became clear. Its blinding white splendour the result of constant polishing, where teams of yellow Kokuwamon were doing exactly that.
"There's digicode carved into every brick," mentioned Rinji. Painstakingly, one symbol was carved into every brick. The entire wall looked like a very strange, nonsensical alphabet.
He looked up, and noticed Scolomon-like forms silhouetted against the sun, on top of the ramparts. Were they guards? The stone gate the Kunemon was leading them towards was closed, but that didn't seem guarded.

Amelie smiled a bit at how genuine were Coolmon's words, even if she soon made a dismissive gesture with with her left hand. "Don't worry. It's not that big of a deal." Truth to be told, it really wasn't. One thousand bits wasn't a high price by any measure of the word; not getting lost on what seemed to be a foreign land was, at least to her, something invaluable. And she wasn't going to haggle something that wasn't that high, to begin with.
Not like the relatively awkward moment would last for long, anyway. The brunette managed to laugh, somewhat entertained both at Rinji's jokes and at Coolmon inadvertently... flirting with him? If that wasn't a clear signal that at least something was up, Amy honestly didn't know! "I agree." she simply said with a smirk. "Wouldn't change our Rinji for anything in the world."
Of course, their shenanigans wouldn't live long. Before them, there was this... marvelous city that no one knew about, and that was managing to puzzle the group more and more.
"Well. Here we are." The Kunemon said, somewhat nonchalantly. "Getting into the city shouldn't be too hard. Just gotta state who you are and what are your motives, and it should be fine!"
Having said that, he nodded before making a small bow, then turning around to get back from where he came. Right now, the group was on its own.
"Here goes nothing, I guess? Maybe we'll find some answers inside the city, even though I have... no idea about what to tell the guards." Given that she was the 'odd one' of the group, maybe... "Should I do the talking? Maybe They'll get alarmed because I'm an unknown 'digimon', or something. Angering these guys seems like a very bad idea."

Oh, the bits...weren't that big of a deal? Huh...Regardless. "Nobody's gonna pick on you on my watch. I promise." Coolmon patted Rinji on the shell. It was entirely innocuous. Heck, a lot of what could be perceived as flirting was really innocuous. Even if she did like Rinji. The sight of the city was indeed quite...breathtaking, to put it lightly.
"Thanks. Um. I'm good at talking! But I'm even better with help, so...Uh. Rinji, wanna help me talk to the guardsmen?" She put a hand in front of her to shield herself from the harsh sunlight and get a better look at the Scolomon. She honestly preferred the one right next to her over those guys.
Probably because she actually knew Rinji. "...Mmm...Maybe if we just explain things clearly we can get in. And find out if the digicode-bricks tell a story or not!"

It was a true pity, but a sudden development would set a chain of events in motion; a predetermined conclusion the trio would've faced no matter their circumstances, even if...
Not quite this early. Before Rinji could even speak to the guards, the sky began to redden and darken; something was happening, judging from the looks of alarm that could be appreciated that the soldiers stationed in the wall displayed. Even if not fully conscious of it, the situation at hand seemed to be on the dire side.
The brunette gazed upwards, as trying to find a clue regarding the sudden shift in the atmosphere, and that's where it hit her; descending from the sky, a gigantic flaming rock was careening directly in the city's direction, threatening to wipe out everything and everyone nearby. What, —or who— could conjure such an attack? As intriguing as that proposition was, there was no time to think about it.
"What... what are we gonna do about this? I don't think we can about that thing before it falls on us!" Yup, Amy was alarmed, and understandably so! She didn't imagine that her life would end like this. Crushed by a literal meteor that had decided to fall from the sky, apparently out of the blue.
