The Inns and Outs of Rosewood [Job F] [Cion]

Owen had settled down at Rosewood for about a week now. Following the traumatic experience in the Backup Bayou, where a Sagomon had tried to kill his youngest son, Bezil the Gumdramon, he had flown here after dispatching the water demon, evolving to his Mega form to do so.
And in his time in the newly established village, Owen had started to enjoy it here. It was full of young digimon, just like his son, freshly moved in from the Village of Beginnings. And he had established himself as something of a teacher - educating the young digimon of life skills that would help them survive in the increasingly turbulent digital world. And Bezil wasn't exempt from these lessons either. But, it was all okay in the end. Even though Owen conducted these lessons as a teacher rather than a father, it seemed the Gumdramon that had formed from his love was determined to do well, and did his best no matter the task.
But of course there were limitations. Yes, Bezil did very well in combat practice and forest-craft, he still remained a very poor swimmer and was a very clumsy individual in driving transport. But that was all okay.
And so, it was a week after they established themselves in Rosewood that eventually they were asked to help out at the inn. With the digimon village rapidly expanding, the inn was bustling with patrons - both those passing through and those looking for a room while they established work here, it was badly understaffed. And, since Owen and Bezil were two able-bodied digimon, they were asked if they had the spare time to run a shift. And so they agreed.
"Huh, I've never worked a job like this before, dad" Bezil remarked as they approached on a Saturday evening. "I hope it's not too hard..."
"You'll be fine, son, don't worry" Owen assured the Gumdramon. "Most of the digimon here are just like you, okay?"
Hopefully that would be so. Owen and Bezil entered the inn, looking around for a manager to tell them what they had to do for the evening. Unfortunately, the innkeeper, a FlaWizarmon was busy at the moment, but the inn wasn't heavily occupied at the moment, which would give them a chance to see what other digimon were present at this moment.

Oh yes - Rosewood. Hands down Cion's greatest and most successful project thus far. Investing working hours and PROFIT's money into it during its set-up had paid out in spades. Though it was only the beginning, the silver fennec already savored its appearance and functionality. A little paradise for younglings who sought a proper upbringing, safety and peace. Considering that it was filled to the brim with Rookies who longed for civilization over naturalism, this village was exactly what the world needed. So many good, becoming people instead of digital monster... a dream come true. However, the restrained Arniomon was not naive, hence she knew that this undertaking had merely begun. Rosewood was destined to become a prosperous city that stood as a prime example for a worthwhile future. Unity despite differences, harmony in face of adequate teachings and combat training, internalized values such as family, cooperation and reason. That was her vision for this town. Given how much she had contributed as of yet, seeing these aspects bloom in some delighted her. That was why today she allowed herself a free day as a reward, although that did not mean she did not work. Inside the inn, while her exquisite minestrone was simmering on a stove, the tiny fox utilized her midday break to test the karaoke box. Certainly the Flawizarmon and the few guests currently present did not mind her noticeable presence, not? " Gonna be a great evening." She whispered as funky, jolly music filled the restaurant. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your perspective, in place of mere microphone tests, she performed an entire song for the fun of it. Her virtuoso playing of her ocarina had transferred to her whole being, making her singing voice quite professional. After 3 minutes, the passionate shtick was over.Opening her eyes and clearing her throat, Cion was surprised to hear actual applause. Chuckling nervously, her large ears bent to the side as she gently scratched her slightly rosy cheek. "Hehehe... sorry, but thank you." She jumpily voiced her apologies and gratitude for their patience and approval. Putting everything into their respective spots, her shy stance immediately and surprisingly shifted to absolute, visible bliss upon spotting the enchanting frame of her most dearly beloved, canine brother. A genuine, rapt and toothy grin graced her muzzle as she waved to him and motioned him towards the bar for an appropriately heartfelt greeting among kindred spirits. Naturally, she did not recognize the Gumdramon for she had never encountered him before, therefore he was merely another guest that arrived at the same time. Still, it was with twitchy fingers that she anticipated a bear hug and caring nuzzles.

Owen and Bezil immediately heard the music that filled the dining room of the Rosewood inn. It was a voice that Owen recognized, but Bezil didn't, but neither of them wanted to interrupt until it was over, it was so nice to listen to.
They both joined in the applause as it ended. Of course it was a practice session so most present understood that. Once she had finished, Owen and Bezil followed her to the bar. At once, Owen approached his sister and gave her a warm hug. "Cion! So good to see you here" he said, happily.
Him saying that made Bezil's identical amber eyes to his widen. "Cion? Dad, is this Aunt Cion?" the Gumdramon asked eagerly, almost wagging his tail, but held himself firm, not wanting to smack anyone that may be moving around behind him.
Owen beamed down at the furred Gumdramon, patting his head gently. "Yep, she is" he answered, then turned back to his sister. "Ah, Cion, I need to introduce you. This is your youngest nephew Bezil. Bezil, this is your Aunt, Cion".
"Oh wow, dad told me so much about you!" Bezil was almost bouncing with excitement at meeting her. "How you fight bad guys and fly around in a super awesome jet digimon and help everyone...! Gosh! I'm so proud to be related to you!" he remembered what had just happened and had to add that. "And you can sing too! Wow, I can't believe we're meeting here at the same time! This is awesome!"
"Heh, settle down there, mate" Owen said, clasping Bezil's shoulder. He smiled at Cion. "So, since you were singing just now, I take it you're practicing for tonight, right?" he inquired. "If so, looks like we're gonna be working together today. Bezil and I agreed to help with tonight's shift as well".
"Ah, right, yeah!" Bezil remembered. "This is the first night of me working here! It just feels like the right thing to do, you know? Dad and I have been staying here for about a week now and they seem to like us being around".
"Hmm, that's part of it" Owen said, a little hesitantly. Honestly the real reason they were staying here was that it was safe haven for his son to train up in his abilities. He had foolishly encouraged his thirst for adventure by taking him to dangerous areas at first, like the Sunken Elysium where they had heard malicious messages from the old world, and the Backup Bayou, where a vicious monster had almost killed Bezil and forced Owen to powerlessly watch, until Owen had warp digivolved to Mega and ended that Sagomon's life with claws through his chest. Owen thought he'd probably have to tell Cion the full story of that at one point, but not right away.
"So, how have you been, Aunt Cion? Have you been on adventures around the digital world lately?" Bezil asked, eager to know more.

Though clearly not a digimon of pronounced muscles and overall physical excellence, Cion gave her brother the tightest of bear hugs regardless. No matter when, where or under what circumstances, embracing her kindred spirit always filled her with unrivaled bliss. "Same to you, Owy." She stated cheerily, nudging the tip of his muzzle with her own and chuckling. "I guess we are both fond of Rosewood, eh?" She asked rhetorically, not surprised to see the blue puppy here to either enjoy leisure time or help out. Despite his adventurous nature, he was a do-gooder at heart. She was similar thanks to him.
Releasing the fluffy dog, the next words that echoed quietly throughout the bar honestly baffled her. It was with a slightly open maw and wide eyes that her aureate irises focused on the coltish Gumdramon. Tilting her head, she watched the dragon's tail wag as if he was a canine. "D-Dad...?" She expressed her bafflement in hushed whispers. The young fella certainly was not Logan, so what in the digital world was going on? Did he... wait, really? Her gaze shifted rather rapidly to the big ball of fluff, smirking teasingly at him. "Someone was active..."
Giggling, the silver fennec rolled her eyes, shrugged and sighed. The bigger the family the better she supposed - although there were still many aspects for the future they had to settle on. Today however, those things were of no concern. Gladly turning towards her youngest nephew, she reached out a paw to him with the intention to courteously shake it as a typical sign of peace and trust. "Pleased to meet you, Bezil." The restrained Arniomon spoke sincerely, looking forward to that the rascal had in store. A merry relationship was nothing she refused for... no reason.
The faint hue of rose returned to her cheeks upon hearing that, once again, Owen had rattled on about her. Indeed wondering if he had exaggerate her achievements and positive personality traits, she nonetheless appreciated being held dear like that. That and the purple kid's unyielding enthusiasm. "Hehehe... ääh, good to hear. I'm glad to be a fine role model... even unknowingly." Cion commented nervously, somewhat bemused and embarrassed by Bezil's open-hearted admiration. It was strange, almost as if she was a celebrity, but... it did not feel bad. The idea of having a productive influence on those she had not encountered personally was gratifying.
Although agreeing with the sentiment that meeting each other here in this peaceful village was awesome, the tiny fox was notwithstanding relieved that her brother attempted to calm his son down. As for practicing... "No, I was merely testing the systems for the karaoke evening. I mostly cook, but... I might participate now that you mention it." She thought out loud, liking the idea if the owner of this establishment was not against it. Nevertheless, the prospect of working together with the two chaps in front of her delighted her immensely. The nodding firmly, acknowledging their presence and contribution.
Astonished to hear that they had lived in Rosewood for a week, lots of thoughts quickly rushed into her mind. Did they intend on building a proper home in these lands? Definitely a notion worth considering and remembering. Folding her arms, she smiled proudly at the Gumdramon, confident that his assiduity and inclination toward goodwill was her essence shining through. "Then I'd ask the manager what help is needed - though I always appreciate a helping hand in the kitchen. The minestrone currently boiling is only an appetizer."
Having expected the curious kid to ask her plenty questions, Cion hopped onto one of the chairs and answered candidly. "I've been fine, thank you. I hope both of you, too. And yes - there ain't a week without some form of adventure." Naturally, she left out the harsh reality of these endeavors, especially those about the D-Reaper. Still, fueling the lad with a passion for this kind of work could not hurt.

Owen grinned at Cion's words, appreciating the hug. "Yeah, there's a lot here to be fond of after all" he said. Bright eyed young digimon wanting to make a city for themselves here in the depths of the forest; a pretty setting with lots of things to do. It felt much better to live here than wander around the digital world or spend it in that urban jungle that was Terminus.
Owen gave a nervous chuckle at Cion being playful about him being active and creating another child. "Well... yeah, you could say that" he said. "Logan's doing great by the way, but his partner Tadao can't come to the digital world much since he's doing "exams" at his university. But he told me to say 'hiya' to you when I next saw you".
Bezil eagerly shook Cion's paw, happy to make her acquaintance. She was just so nice and elegant! It made him calm down a little too, making him a bit less hyperactive. He realized he wouldn't be a kid forever and had to learn how to be a gentlemon when given the chance.
As for the tales of her bravery, Owen had simply told Bezil her exploits, the ones he knew of anyway, and the little furred dragon had taken in the stories with much enthusiasm. Indeed, one day he too would like to evolve to mega and bust some evil digimon that only wanted to harm and consume others.
"Ah, is that right?" Owen asked Cion as she mentioned she mostly cooked, and was just testing out the karaoke systems. "Well, I think you're great at both. So, whichever one you prefer would be fine by me". Customers deserved both good food and entertainment, and Cion was capable of either one.
Bezil was delighted with the prospect of helping in the kitchen. "Ah yeah! I can do that. I don't know how to cook things properly myself, but I can follow instructions and help how I can!"
"I'll go ask the manager how we can help then" Owen said, and strolled off for a moment. Bezil meanwhile hopped on a chair next to Cion and eagerly awaited a story.
"So, Aunt Cion, what sort of stuff were you doing?" he asked. "Although... if you'd rather not say, that's fine too" he added, remembering that Owen had taught him not to put his nose too far in where it wasn't welcome.

What was there not to be fond of in Rosewood? A village with the honorable purpose of properly raising young digimon to become productive, content members of civilization? To Cion it was a dream come true and one she gladly contributed with all of her passion and might. As delightful was the news that Logan and Tadao were thinking of her so much that Owen had to relay distant regards to her. This of course made her squeal with glee. "Great to hear. If you meet them before me, hug them tightly in my stead, please." She requested happily, confident that her brother obliged her without chagrin.
Appreciating the jolly Gumdramon's manners, she noticed that his 'educator's' presence caused him to simmer down somewhat. Was the little rascal already trying to be a mature grown-up? Cute, but hopefully he would not deny who he truly was and the potential bliss of childhood. Even a digitla monster had the right to savor it until the day of seemingly eternal adulthood arrived. Putting the topic of responsibilities and reincarnation aside, the restrained Arnimon's focus shifted solely from cutiepie Bezil to big puppy and papa Owen - unable to not smile warmly at him.
"Why not both?" She asked confidently, certain that there were plenty of recipes that did not require her constant supervision, like casseroles and morsel platters. Besides, with the possible of assistance of the lovely duo in front of her, tonight was going to a piece of cake anyway. So why not relish it fully? Seeing the Gaomon dear to her leave to ask the inn's manager for instructions, her attention returned to the purple dragon. Bending forward ever so slightly to face the boy sitting next to her, her ears peaked upon hearing his request.
Shaking her head to reject any unnecessary uncertainty, Cion calmly folded her arms and considered the many tales there were to tell. Perhaps a summary was appropriate? "Well, pretty much what your father told you. I am an officer of a renowned organization called PROFIT you see. Every now and then, I and my colleagues are contracted to do important jobs. Vanquishing a mighty evildoer, foiling malicious plans or service work like here in Rosewood. And to my convenience, I indeed have a partner that is a a super awesome jet." She unwoundedly explained her daily routine, hoping that satisfied the youngling's curiosity.
If no... maybe playing into his excitement was not a bad idea. Almost pressing her nose against his, she grinned with the desire to amaze him. "His name is Vertigo. Can you believe what his top speed is? Mach 5. That is five times the speed of sound - like our voices or music. Or, to make it clearer... over 1200 times the speed we typically walk at." She explained with firm nods to pronounce her honest statements.

Owen and Bezil smiled at the request. "Of course we will" Owen replied.
Cion then suggested they could do both. "Heh, I guess, but, I doubt we'd be able to cook and sing at the same time" Owen chuckled. But he'd be happy to find out what they could do. Then when he went off, Bezil listened to Cion's story.
"Wow, that's so cool!" the Gumdramon exclaimed, his yellow eyes still bright with excitement. A sign that he was Owen's son, they had the same colored eyes, rather than the normal blue that Gumdramon had. And on top of that she had a partner too? Who was a jet? "Wow! Really?!" Bezil asked excitedly.
Then Cion told him just how fast Vertigo could go. "Mach 5? What does that mean?" he asked, tilting his head with confusion. Then Cion explained that meant 5 times the speed of sound. Only then did it click with Bezil.
"Oh my god, wow that's fast!" he breathed. "Vertigo sounds so cool too! Hm, I wonder if dad might be okay if I asked to ride him?" he wondered out loud. Speaking of which, Owen returned soon after, accompanied with a Flawizarmon.
"Ahh, nice, glad to see you lot volunteering for the floor tonight" he said, smiling with approval. Cion had already done so much for Rosewood so far, and Owen was a welcome sight as well. "So then, we need cooks, food servers and entertainers tonight. Which would you like to take for the moment?"

Delighted to know that her request would be fulfilled, Cion shook her head with a chuckle upon hearing Owen's uncertainty. Like she had thought before, there were plenty of ways to manage both at the same time. A single seldom lasted longer than 4 minutes and there were lots of delicious dishes that could be served cold or kept in the oven for a prolonged period. Overall, whatever their course of action, she was confident that the three of them and the visitors of this tavern would have a great day and evening.
As aureate eyes met that of the Gumdramon with the same color, a rapt smile continued to grace the restrained Arniomon's muzzle, especially as she beheld his excitement and childlike wonder. "I don't lie, dear. So really!" She emphasized the truthfulness of her claims with a coltish wink - even if some were probably beyond the child's comprehension as of now. However, she had no doubts that with the support of Rosewood and his family that he would become a savvy and canny dragon. He was definitely inquisitive and adventurous, similar to his canine daddy. "I'm sure we can arrange something."
With these words that were not meant to be explicit promises uttered calmly, the small fennec's ears peaked briefly as she witnessed the turn of her dearly treasured Gaomon and the owner of this establishment - a flawizarmon. Remaining unwound and modest as she heard his approval, she was quite open to all suggestions that were put forward. "A fine stew is already boiling... and since it's not night yet, I take it cooking more and serving would be adequate?" She somewhat rhetorically asked her brother and nephew while obviously anticipating their input.
