A Necessary Lesson [Syre/Cas]

"And this is a calm day." Cas adds sighing once more as she shakes her head glancing over at Syre as she motions towards Emma.
"You see why your Father and I tend to be perpetually salty. That aside I'm starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't get her one of those drink hats you see at sporting events sometime." The Doctor mused as Emma bypassed the water to continue working. It was however about that time that Zak pushed the door open with a plate laiden with cups of tea, cheese, crackers, and some fruit both digital and human as he glanced around the room eyes settling on Emma.
"Uh...is this a bad time?" The little Digimon questioned as Cloak moved to help support the tray.
"No. No you have perfect timing Zaku Emma was just about to save her progress and join us for a snack and the five minute to ten minute break I prescribed so she can take some migraine medication." Cas explains with a smile following Emma's own advice as she gripped the back of the girl's chair.
"All right time to save Emma." She'd add giving her a few moments to hit said save button before she'd motion Vigilant over to help and whether with or without his aid she'd drag the seat back with the Spirit user in it over to the small table and chairs Zaku was setting the tray on. Cloak having already hopped up on one of the chairs to set out the tea.

"Well, I've seen some of dad's more problematic patients... and its enough to make me understand the stock of scotch he keeps in the back."
Despite their rather open conversation, Emma still kept her focus on the screen - barely even acknowledging that the Monitamon had trotted into the room. In fact, she only perked up at the prospect of taking a break, the spirit wielder giving an audible sigh as she executed the 'save' shortcut on her keyboard. Pulled back away from the keyboard - and put in front of her own end table - she'd give a blink, looking down at the tea and hors d'oeuvres. Without a second thought, three sugar cubes were unceremoniously dropped into that hot drink, Emma taking the time to stir and watch the sugar melt away.
"... You alright, there?" Vigilant gave a worried tone at her silence, Emma simply giving a blink.
"Hm? Oh, I'm... fine enough." Making a small sandwich out of two crackers, a piece of cheese, and pepperoni, she muttered to herself: "The control aspect stops the D-Reaper from rooting entirely, and the code must be present in the shielding for Azulongmon's data. It permeates the statue and affects the range, but its in totality. To protect the user..."
Syre gave a blink. Even as Emma ate, she kept right on that line of thought, the girl's eyes half-glazed over as she muttered. This... huh.
"... You ever see her like this, Cas?"

The Doctor resisted the urge to sigh yet again as she glanced between Emma, Syre, and the highly concerned vigilant. Cloak at least looked less alarmed having witnessed Emma in this state once before like herself, but still more then a little worried for the spirit user while Zaku shifted in his seat unsure what to do to help.
"Yes. This I believe is somewhat normal for her when she gets wrapped up in a project, but still..." The Doctor trails off digging through her medical kit as she pulls out a double dosage of migraine pills and catches Emma's wrist as she goes for another cracker. Slipping the pills into Emma's palm she motions for the girl to take them before she can have anything else and quietly switches her cup of tea with only one sugar cube for Emma's when she's not paying attention. Then pours the over sugared tea into a nearby plant when no one is watching and refills the cup.
"Take the migraine meds and eat a little and we'll let you get back to work. They'll help with the crippling headache." Cas orders, but true to her words seems content to let Emma go about her business so long as she takes this little break.

It wasn't just Cassandra trying to pull one on Emma. Seeing the swap of the tea, the Knightmon himself took the plate of sugar cubes - as if to take one for his own drink - and dropped it right into Syre's hands. Blinking, the cat smoothly slipped her hands behind her back, hiding it from plain sight. Ordinarily, such a simple motion would have been picked up... but as focused as Emma was?
She didn't expect a thing. Pills felt in her hand, the spirit wielder gave a sigh, popping them in before swallowing them with the tea. Her muttering continued, but she did manage to converse for at least a moment: "Sorry about this. I'll get proper rest when this is done. I'm... not going to stop, for now."
"I'll keep an eye on her, and call you if anything changes, doctor." The Knightmon gave a nod, and as Cassandra and Syre would eventually make their way out of the room - door closed, and a good way down the hall - Syre would give a sigh.
"I hope you don't mind me saying this, but your teammates are... well, kind of out there, I guess?" Syre gave a blink. "I mean, I'm sure they mean well, but... um... you know... they seem like a handful?"
She didn't know how to describe it.
But Cassandra probably knew what she meant.

"Try not to overdo it Emma. I understand however that your work is important to you." Cas murmured as she excused herself and Syre from the table Cloak and Zaku getting up to follow her as she pauses. Turning to Vigilant she waits till Emma is one more back working on the computer as she types something down on her D-terminal screen angling it so the Knightmon can see.
'Migraine meds should kick in thirty minutes. One of those pills was a sleep aid. Please make sure she doesn't fall asleep on the keyboard and ruin her work. She would not thank either of us for that.' The note read as the Doctor flashed the armored Digimon a slim smile.
"Of course Vigilant. Keep up the good work." Cas murmurs waving to him and Emma as the little group exits and closing the door behind them. Shaking her head the Doctor glances down at Syre her expression softening somewhat in regards to her team.
"They're less of a handful when the General is around to keep them from getting underfoot, but I have to admit there is rarely a dull moment." Cassandra explains her tone light with good humor if a little tired.
"Who is next on your rounds Hime?" Cloak questioned considering whether or not his Tamer would need him dogging her steps as he considered going and helping with the evening meal. With the majority of the team down it left it to those of them who could manage to not poison everyone with their cooking to pick up the slack there.
"We're going to check on Demon next. You're welcome to tag along, but I doubt he's going to savage us any time soon." Cas adds with a small rueful smile as the Kotemon nods and peels off from the group.

Vigilant, seeing that note, couldn't help but stifle a sigh. Keyboard aside, Emma was not going to be a happy camper one way or the other...
... But Cassandra's work was not yet done. Of the remaining members of the manor, there was one more that had more than a taste of Azulongmon's wrath: the Devidramon who, in his Xros'd form, had used his own electrical prowess to attempt to shield the group. Syre followed along in step, giving a nod towards Cloak as he would move off towards the kitchen - to help Raider (the Knightmon, not to be confused with Vigilant) prepare a sizeable 'feast' for the abode.
"And everything moves along in step... alright, so, 'Demon'?" Again, an interesting code name! As they would turn the corner, and head down another flight of stairs, it wouldn't take long for Syre to understand the moniker - the cat even giving a small jump as they turned the corner to Demon's room. After all, it wasn't so easy to simply come across a Devidramon in stride! Though, even at a glance, his appearance was a touch different, his claws and wings clad with metal.
"I... is he Xros'd?"
"Grrr..." That he was: Kokuwamon's data signal was quite evident, as was the Devidramon's tensity. Facing away from the room's entrance, the demon type, once more, tried to create an electric charge in his right hand - only to, once again, feel the entire thing 'pop' in a single blast of static! The Devidramon seemed tense and frustrated at this point - his visor, of all things, buzzing in to talk him down:
"Alright, enough!" The form briefly flashed white, the machine type, Kokuwamon, popping himself free of Devidramon's frame. Setting his head properly into place, the machine gave a huff. "Its just not going to set in right today, so why don't you take some time to decompress and -
"All I've done is decompress!" The Devidramon snarled - his two left eyes catching sight of the doctor in his periphery. At that, the demon's focus snapped towards her, the tension in his expression quickly fading away.
... His tone became level. Gentle, even.
"... Cassandra."

"Yes it appears he is." Cas murmurs casting her eyes heavenwards as she silently questions what her Mother was thinking naming her for a cursed prophetess for it seems she was similarly unlistened to of late. Still her eyes softened as she took in Demon's struggles as she worked to relax her stance so as to not startle the Devidramon. The fact the Devidramon had been the one to come up short and not the Doctor though was perhaps the more terrifying of realizations as Cas strode forward with slow measured steps.
"Demon." She greeted her voice gentle or as gentle as she could manage with the metallic edge that clung to her words as she attempted to convey in her stance what she could not convey in appearance given her form was just as disconcerting to the casual observer as his own.
"You know I warned you no Xros'ing for the time being." The Doctor began as she approached a small frown tugging at her lips as she glanced over his form reaching out to slowly, carefully, smooth her hands over the ragged edges of still healing data where the lightning had burned into shoulders and arm. The injuries looking more frayed and raw then ever after his little exertion as she frowned. Previously she had removed the bandages so the injuries could air, but now...letting out a huffing breath the Doctor sighed.
"Volt is right. I know you are frustrated, but you're still healing. I'm not surprised you're command of electricity isn't fully up to snuff just yet. I'm just glad you didn't injure yourself worse with that little display." Cas scolded her tone even and firm even as she took the Devidramon's one giant good hand between her own and carefully pressed her fingers against various parts of his palm ignoring the fact the hand itself was as big as her head.
"Can you feel this?" She questioned apply pressure to each finger in turn checking to ensure any nerve damage was healing and that the virus type hadn't just set himself back further.

For Syre, seeing Cassandra so boldly accost the Devidramon was a sight to behold. Not only did she respond with an edge to her voice, but she openly scolded that dragon, which had just moments ago proved easily prone to anger.
Despite this, Demon didn't lash out - even offering his wounded arm for Cassandra's observation! All the while, his eyes carefully loomed down over the doctor, before scanning the room. As much as the doctor had managed to 'tame' him, he still didn't exactly sit well with new - or even old - acquaintances. Spotting the BlackGatomon, the demon couldn't help but give an instinctual, defensive growl...
... One that was interrupted by a reminder of Cassandra's order. 'No Xrossing'. 'Blade is right'. At that, the Devidramon retorted with a snort. "I still feel the electricity flowing through my arm. That arm." The Devidramon looked to his left - to that empty space. That arm had been lost on the fight against Ceresmon, and though it still took form in any of his Xros'd forms, it was still absent in his 'base'. "Drives me up the wall. Need to discharge it. Can't discharge."
"Demon, buddy..."
The Devidramon glared, the Kokuwamon and BlackGatomon crowding together in fear of that imposing dragon - but, once again, his attention was returned to Cassandra. "Feels fine. Two knuckles. Static from your suit tickles." He gave his short answer, simply giving a nod to her process.
"... Why you bring cat?"

"I understand..." Cas murmured voice soft and low the slight rasp to her words more pronounced at the lower decibels as a growl threatened to bubble up within her own throat as she thought of how painfully slow her own healing process was. Of how terrifying each new change was.
"Healing is...frustrating at times." The Doctor spoke anger at herself and the D-reaper boiling just beneath her skin even as she concentrated on shoving those emotions deep deep down into her psyche releasing the tension she held within her shoulders with a slow exhale of breath.
"What you are experiencing is known as phantom limb syndrome. I've put in an order for a prosthetic from Terminus that can conduct electricity so you can channel your attacks through it. However, when you were hit by the Dragon's attack it's lightning held a different charge from your own which saturated your data. You still have that charge build up in your data and are just going to have to wait a few more days for it to disperse. Which is why your electrical abilities keep going haywire." Cassandra explained releasing Demon's hand as she pulled out her medical kit applying some ointment to the raw now red looking data burns along the Digimon's arms and shoulders he had irritated with his straining. Following the Devidramon's gaze the woman reached out to very lightly tap the Digimon on the nose hopefully drawing his nearly predatory attention away from the Black Gatomon.
"That's Syre. She's helping out as my assistant this week. No biting." Cas instructed for once not motioning Syre close to make her own introductions. It was in her educated opinion best to stay out of the reach of the tense and healing Devidramon when one looked like a meal.
"However, in the meantime I might have an idea on how to lessen the charge your data is holding if it's truly driving you that much up a wall." The Doctor added not entirely unsympathetic to the Digimon's plight.

"Phantom Limb Syndrome. I am aware."
Denryu had described it to him before - and it was why the Devidramon preferred to spend as much of his time as possible as part of a Xros. Even with just Volt, he would gain a working left arm - almost exactly like the one he had before. As Cassandra spoke about a prosthetic, he gave a low growl. "Prefer Xros. Would fake arm even survive the first merge?" If it was something he wouldn't be able to wear most of the time anyway, would it be worth it to try and throw his sense off?
The next part, he had no argument with. Azulongmon's electricity had surged heavily through his own: "Dragon's lightning was strong. Made the best buffer I could - could still only withstand one bolt." He was concerned, before, that he hadn't bought enough time for the group - but since everyone was here, he could look back at it, even with a tone of respect for the Azulongmon's strength. His attention was soon drawn away from the definite 'potential prey', Cassandra's words bringing the demon to blink.
"Syre. Assistant."
"Y-yes." The cat did step forward - but decided to stay a good two-and-a-half arm-lengths away, just to be safe. "Cas? If its a built-up charge, I imagine he's trying to force it out of his system with electrical bursts? Why isn't it working out?"
"Cat... smart." Devidramon gave a nod, the cat a nervous chuckle - so he challenged the cat a bit further. "What happens when a lightbulb is in a lamp, and lightning strikes outside, causing a surge?"
"The um... oh!" That's what it was! "Its too much charge? Your claws act as a conduit to turn current into 'attack' electricity, but with the amount of load, it... 'snaps'?"
"Hm..." He returned his attention to Cassandra. "So how would you lower the charge?"

"The higher end digital prosthesis's should meld with your data to some level like an Xros unit and 'evolve' with you. Once the prosthetic comes in we'll put it through it's paces and perhaps have Emma look it over if she is feeling up to it." Cas explained as she carefully re-wrapped the tender burns with a pad and gauze.
"However until these burns fully heal you need to stay un-Xros'ed as the merging and separating strains your data which is still malleable and healing.I don't want you developing any data scars just because you're stubborn." The Doctor warned, but cast Syre an approving nod as the cat gave her own observations on the situation. Demon for his good behavior didn't get a second flick on the nose. Cassandra instead running an indulgent hand lightly over the Dragon's muzzle.
"He can't actively discharge it on his own so I think the next best solution would be to ground him and allow the charge to passively discharge." Cas explained as she carefully tied off the bandages.
"However we'll need a way to insulate him so it's not all one big discharge. I don't want him hurting himself worse." The Doctor mused a small concerned frown tugging at her lips. The Charge would eventually go away on it's own naturally dispersed as it weakened and was overcome by Demon's own natural bio-electricity, but she was more concerned he'd end up hurting himself before then.

"I'll believe when I see."
The Devidramon's tone was short at that, the dragon tense as that bandage was brought back around his arms and shoulders. He understood the necessity, but still hated the feeling. It felt restrictive, even muzzling. He was tense - and it was only out of great respect for the doctor that he didn't simply lash out at the feeling. Her words cut deep, Devidramon's tense attention leveled right at the doctor.
"Will... heal..."
In regards to 'grounding' the electricity? The Kokuwamon spoke up: "That would just mean letting his power surge out through a conduit - though risking something on the island might be a bit - hm?" A small beep echoed in Volt's ear, Syre's own twitching at the sudden noise. "Um... should we be worried?"
"No, no, its just something we have to deal with from time to time. Storm cloud's rolling in. And a quick check... hm, yes, everyone's inside." With that, the Kokuwamon gave a snap, an electric buzz surrounding the building until metal shutters covered all of the windows, a light soon clicking on in the space above them. "Just as well, really. Should be about time to serve dinner, anyway?"
"Er... yeah." Taken somewhat aback by the sudden shift in light, Syre gave a curious look towards Cassandra. "But I thought these floating islands had a system for breaking up these storms? Why risk riding one out?"

"I know...." Cassandra consoled not needing to be empathetic to understand the Devidramon's frustration. "We'll see about taking you ground side to get this fixed in a day or so if the charge doesn't lessen by then." The Doctor murmured running her own bandaged fingers carefully over the Virus type Digimon's head not that he could feel much beyond the sensationless surface of her EV suit and the slight static cling it caused. Gently smoothing her hands over his wing likes ears as she rubbed at them soothingly.
"Food however I think will do everyone good. Well except Emma and the General. They're both likely still sound asleep, but we'll put some aside for them later." The Doctor murmured stepping back away from the looming demonic dragon as she moved to follow Volt. Storms on the island had been a bit terrifying for her at first and even now after the incident in the dessert the sound of thunder still quickened her pulse in fear. Though she enjoyed the rain it brought.
"Such systems make it incredibly easy to pick out which of the hundreds of floating islands in the digital world are and are not inhabited. A simple scan might pick up the various digital signatures here, but that could be passed off easily enough by a high flying Luminas patrol as simply being a flock of flying digimon nesting here." Cassandra explained as the group headed for the dining room with the addition of Demon and Volt the Manor now far darker with the windows closed and locked down with only the interior lights to illuminate it.
"If it had it's own isolated weather system though that would be a bit of a dead giveaway that there might be a base here not wouldn't it?" Cas added motioning Syre inside.

"Appreciated."
There wasn't much more for the dragon to say to Cassandra, other than that - though he did lean just a bit against that hand. Different stature as they were, it did seem that Demon did appreciate this contact to an extent... but like a flippant cat, he was soon to growl, and pull himself away.
Food would do them all good, it seemed. Following Volt out into the hall, Syre's ear twitched right at Cassandra's explanation. "True... though it definitely doesn't make it any more comfortable." At those words, the sound of thunder rumbled from the outside, a small shudder running down Cassandra's spine. All they could do was ride it out - and even worse, they could only hear the storm around them, not see it.
But as they trickled into the dining room, Syre would quickly see that most everyone else here had grown used to the storm, several already sitting around the table. Of note, Angel found herself sitting right next to a Zubamon, the Renamon running a brush down her arm, the 'crackle' of static heard with that entire motion. Dagger would find himself under a fresh towel, the fox's effort to try and spare the metal Digimon the sensation of the storm. "Well... a little better, at least?"
As expected, neither Emma nor Denryu made their appearance, though the addition of Syre did make this table feel almost as crowded as it usually was - and the Knightmon, Raider, was currently bringing out tray after tray towards the table. Briefly, Syre gave a count.
"Six, eight... fourteen chairs?" Her voice seemed a bit faint at that - just how could they afford that much food, every day?

"I suppose it is better then weathering the storm alone and in the dark." Cas murmured ushering the group into the dining room as she took her own seat near the end of the table not that the Doctor ever ate much of late. Typically excusing herself after a glass of tea and a few small bites of whatever was being served. Still she seemed to enjoy the camaraderie in the moment if nothing else.
"Thanks Angel. I wasn't expecting the static buildup to happen that fast." Dagger crooned apologetically clearly more then a little ruffled over accidentally shocking the poor Renamon. Their cuddling session cut short given they were likely to repeatedly electrocute one another at the moment. Which perhaps explained why the majority of the silverware the cheaper aluminium kind with hard plastic handles to prevent zapping oneself unexpectedly.
Cloak, the Kotemon would settle in on Ca's left leaving the chair to the Doctor's right free for Syre to settle into as the Black Gatomon looked upon the large table and occupants with wide eyes. "We're a decently sized team. Perhaps not as large as an organization, but between the Xros army, my partners, and our various mercs we fill out our numbers. Most of the food is grown here on the island in a green house. Some of it is bought and traded though that's mostly the dry goods and meats." The Doctor explained following Syre's gaze.
"The walk in fridge and kitchen are industrial size to keep up with this group, but means plenty of room to work without getting under one another feet. Most meals tend to be things that can be made in large easy batches." Cloak chimed in carefully pinning his sleeves so as to not accidentally drape them in his food.
