This will be us doing MPC 49A. I'm gonna pick Bits as the reward.
It was a calm afternoon in Mitakihara Middle School, the sun gently shining through the window of an empty classroom. A certain brunette found her gaze shifting between the aforementioned pair of windows and the open door on the opposite side of the room, all while an unopened bento box gently rested on the table directly in front of her. Even if this had become a bit of a routine for the past year or so, Amelie always felt both nervous and excited about it. This classroom had been constantly empty through the year. A failed club, maybe? In any case, it had managed to become their special place to have lunch together in the afternoon break. Which, in all honesty... had managed to be that part of the day she always looked forward too; chatting, eating and fooling around with her underclassman and best friend was what illuminated her routine. The spice of her life. She honestly couldn't imagine her life without those thirty minutes anymore. A bit concerning, wasn't it? But it wasn't like she cared. The teenager always —or, more accurately, most of the time— managed to reach the classroom first, which resulted in her setting a makeshift table by joining two desks and... wait. Eventually, her blonde friend would appear by the door's threshold, that simple gesture prompting the biggest of smiles Amy could muster; she was here. Everything was perfect now.
Shibuya had yet to see the amount of destruction currently undergoing in the heart of its main street. Gruesome and with an excessive amount of cruelty, toppled buildings, extinguished lives and general, wanton destruction were the name of the disaster. Who were the directly responsible for this atrocity? Vaguely human shapes, who looked almost like they have been swallowed, chewed and then regurgitated out; abominations in their own right, rampaging through the streets without rhyme or reason. But... there was something else. Resting atop the biggest shopping mall in the area, a mass of fleshy growths and tendrils could be seen. It remained still, yet pulsated and spasmed periodically, like a tumor infesting the city. Could that be whoever or... whatever was behind this carnage? Only one way to find out.

I'll be requesting bits also!
Shoes tapped quickly against the tiles of the halls, as a blonde worked her way around classmates. A routine that couldn't be broken! By now, some of the students had gotten used to seeing the girl hurrying through the school at this hour, and even made it a point to keep out of the way. Others, didn't even seem to notice until they might hear an, "excuse me, ah-- excuse me!" After all, nobody wanted to waste important seconds, when it could be spent with someone else.
Upon turning a corner, pace would begin to slow. Giving herself a moment, the teen would inhale, to stop the heavy breathing, and run her fingers through her hair. Some days were just hectic. But, she still wanted to look her best. She had come to realize that most days, she wouldn't be the first one to their meeting place. Today was surely one of those days. It didn't alter the desire to reach her destination, but it did give her a reason to pause and make sure her appearance was acceptable.
After all, who didn't want to look their best for their best friend? And, the blonde didn't want to embarrass her upperclassmen friend by looking unkempt.
Did Amy ever even notice such details?
Now, just outside of the door, Maia took one last breath. Subconsciously, a smile began to shyly light her face, as she turned to step through the doorway, and to greet the brunette that was -- as usual -- already waiting for her. "You beat me again!"
Another day, another sound of shoes hitting the ground. Today, boots on pavement. Instead of a classroom, the race was to the heart of the main street. A race that the blonde had already long-lost. Heart was racing to the point that she could hear the blood pounding in her ears. Could everyone see it? Would everyone see it?
Amber eyes would lift to see the strange abominations that laid rampage to the area. Would they notice her? There was a vague familiarity in some of their forms, yet the teen was unable to directly place them. Yet, they weren't her target. They were surely just pawns, after all.
Pace slowed, to allow the girl a second to catch her breath. But, there was no time to straighten her hair, or to pause and allow the flustered expression to fade. As soon as her body would allow, she began to sprint again. A location that the average person would flee. A demon-like presence atop one of the buildings.
Perhaps, demon was the wrong term. Witch felt more accurate.
Weaving itself into view from under the blonde's hair, a white and purple creature propped its front paws on her shoulder. Looking straight forward, an almost catlike smile fell upon the animal's mouth.
"Do you think you can save her?"

As always, Maia's mere presence managed to illuminate the room, almost as she possessed a light of her own. It was something both amazing and comforting, and, in hindsight, what prompted Amelie to smile.
She wasn't alien to the gossip about how her best friend hurried through the halls in order to get to the meeting place as quickly as possible, or how the blonde tried to fix her appearance the best she could after exerting herself. That knowledge made the brunette both smile and blush at the same time. Was she worth that much to somebody? Sometimes, it was hard to believe, yet... that was the very reason she treasured her relationship with Maia so much.
More precious than anything she could think about. Amy's smile receded a bit, slowly becoming a smirk at her friend's words. "Well, it's the job of an upperclassman to set a correct example for her juniors, amirite? You're looking as nice as always, Mai-chan."
Things would go as they always did; Mai would take a seat directly in front of her, just for them to open their bento boxes and begin eating together. "What did you bring today? I've got a little surprise for you!" And, hopefully, wouldn't disappoint. This was her friend's favorite food, after all!
This time, the brunette's box contained a variety of sushi rolls tightly populating the container. Immediately, a tinge of pink crawled to her cheeks. "I-I made them myself! And you can try as many as you want, but with one condition." After a small pause, the chopsticks would get a hold of a roll, slowly raising it to the level of her friend's face. Amy smirked a bit teasingly. "You gotta open up! Say 'aaah'."
Risky? Yes. Would she literally melt in a puddle of happiness if Maia accepted? Also, yes! Well, pawns or not, they've just caught wind of the presence near them; two of the zombie-like beings would slowly advance towards them, some strands of blonde and reddish hair dispersing in their wake. Maybe an indication of who they were before souls lives had been forfeit? It didn't matter; they weren't friendly, and if Maia wanted to reach the place where the so-called witch was, she'd have to fight against the abominations in front of her.
Suddenly, they seemed to spring to life, their forelimbs suddenly shifting into a gooey substance, then into crude bladelike appendages. They charged, and while their movements were relatively slow, their strikes seemed to be strong enough to be something you wanted to avoid unless you fancied losing a limb... or worse.
Was that everything? Of course, it wasn't. The huge cyst atop the mall seemed to react in its own way, almost as if it had sensed Maia's presence in the area. It began to wriggle, then to expand and contract at random intervals.
It seemed to have no apparent effect on what was currently happening, but it was almost as if it were... excited in its own way?

At least it seemed that, no matter how late Mai was in comparison, Amy never judged her for it. Maybe she really did know how much effort the blonde put into arriving for their meetings. The thought, coupled with Amy's compliment, caused the teen to blush! While one could only wish for the ability to be subtle about the pink that quickly powdered her cheeks. "Oh! Thank you," the girl smiled, subconsciously playing with a lock of her hair. "You look nice, too, Senpai." How did Amy always look like she had everything so together? From her looks to her composure! While it may make some jealous, instead, the teen found it admirable.
Upon sitting down, the girl would bring out her own bento, per their routine. There was some charm to the abandoned room. While some would turn their noses at it, this room was essentially theirs. Something the duo shared, without the distractions of the outside world. And, speaking of sharing... "I brought a couple of things," Maia admitted, while opening her own box. It seemed like a fairly basic bento, with onigiri, some wontons, and apples cut to look like bunnies. One might even note that everything within the container had an even number. Almost as if it was intended to be shared with someone else!
But, before she could say much more, there was a surprise to be spotted! Looking from the sushi to her upperclassmen, Maia couldn't help but smile. "They look really good!" Of course, with the requirement, the blushing was back! Was it sort of silly? Yes!
Did Maia follow the instructions?
Leaning forward slightly, to be closer to the offering, the blonde opened her mouth. Be ready to melt, Amy! "Aaah.."
One should have expected the running to draw attention to her. Between the footsteps, panting, and the talking creature, there was no way to go unnoticed! Especially when a human was surely an easy target to the familiars that had begun their hunt. While they didn't seem overly fast, the blonde knew that she wouldn't have the stamina to outrun them for long. And, each swipe was growing uncomfortably close. Would it hurt when one of them finally reached her?
"So! I'll just wish her back into being a human!" Maia insisted, while shoving her feet into her boots.
"Err. Sorry, Mai. I can't do that," the white and purple pipefox stated, sitting in front of the doorway. He knew where she was headed. She knew where she was needed. "You'd need a lot more magical potential! I've never even met someone who could make a wish like that!" But, someone like that had to be out there. Somewhere.
This didn't stop the teen from pushing past the fox, who quickly leaped up to cling to her. "I'm not going to just leave her like that. She needs me!" Was that true? Or, did Maia need her?
"There's only one way to 'save' someone who's become a witch. If you actually care, why won't you do that?"
But, that wasn't what Amy wanted, was it? She didn't want to die. And, she didn't want Maia to become a magical girl. If Amelie had wanted such a thing, wouldn't she have encourage Mai to make a wish?
Would it make Amy angry? At this point, did Amy even realize that Maia was there? It was hard to tell. But, seeing the creature that the brunette had become...
"Kuuyubey," the teen started, knowing that the familiars were soon to dig into her back. A tear in her clothes could be felt already, letting her know that time was soon to run out.
"Yes?"
Finally.
"If I can't make her change back, can I wish---?" While the question was cut short with a screech from a blade connecting with her skin, it seemed that the fox had heard her request.
Head tilted, while yellow eyes blinked, thoughtfully. "If you're willing to test the consequences of something that vague, I believe we can use it." Would the familiars be blinded by the light that came from their prey? Would the creature that had consumed Amy see what they had caused?
A blue soul gem would flicker into existence in the form of a choker on the teen's neck, framed in a magenta casing. The pink contrasted heavily against the blues and golds that otherwise made up the outfit that graced the blonde. Perhaps, it was to reference something that was once valuable to her. Or, someone.
In one hand, a 'weapon' would begin to materialize. Long, golden handle, raising up to a large magnifying glass that was speckled with dust. While not initially intimidating, those who had hunted her may find that the shadows cast from the dirty glass had formed into deep patches on the ground. Some, perhaps, on the Familiars. And, where the patches grazed, an impossibly sticky residue would form.
Every speckle brought onto the earth from the device seemed to create a glue-like substance in its wake. With any luck, it would stop the creatures in their tracks.
Still, Maia's eyes weren't on those that had cut into her already-healing body. The girl was focused on the mass that she was intent on approaching. And, with newly formed abilities, the magical girl bounced forward with far higher speeds than her human self could have managed.
Would the witch react to a potential threat? Or, grow more excited to see the one it once cared about? Furthermore, would it be able to sense that the blue gem sitting on the teen's neck was already losing color?
What kind of wish could curse someone so quickly?
One last plea. A final attempt at bringing someone dear to her back to this world. Growing closer, time was quickly running out. For Amy. For Maia. "Amy! Please! Snap out of it!"

Having it all together...
That was a nice image to project out, wasn't it? Always calm and collected, always prim and proper. Never insecure or disheveled; that was just how Amelie was, wasn't she?
If she insisted on lying to herself, yeah; that was her. Pity that the lie was as fragile as a house of cards. Just as she had said, it was her job to set a correct example. To try and make Mai be proud of her.
The brunette's heart couldn't avoid fluttering at the two compliments thrown her way. Both on her looks, but especially due to being called senpai; for some ephemeral moments, those words made her think that somebody looked up to her, and to just a random somebody. It was the person she cared about the most.
Those thoughts would be stuffed back to a random recess of her mind as soon as lunchtime began, however. The hour of truth had begun, Amelie diving in and expecting nothing, but truly hoping for the blonde to accept her offer. It would make her really, really happy...
She stared in surprise for a couple of moments, directly into Maia's face, and for that moment, it'd be rather obvious that Amy had decidedly lost her cool. Her fingers quivered for a couple of seconds, but at least she managed to not drop the roll; slowly, the chopsticks marched directly inside Maia's mouth, delivering the piece and remaining inside for maybe a second too many. But could Amelie be blamed? She hadn't expected this result, like at all!
As the hand returned, the teenager took a moment to sink back into her chair; now pretty much trembling from excitement, she couldn't avoid smiling, even if this time it wasn't one of her prim-and-proper smiles. This time, it was just unadulterated happiness flooding her body.
"H-How... was it? Did you like it?" That relapse had to end at some point, even though it was pretty obvious that, at least for her standards, Amy had definitely indulged in it. She took a second to stare at the chopsticks, and noted how they were glistening faintly.
Not losing a second, she used the same utensils to pick a piece of sushi herself and stuff it in her mouth; and... in all honesty? At least for that moment, she couldn't care less about the food's taste, yet still managed to smile satisfied, almost as if she had just eaten the best thing in the whole world.
Now that the aforementioned episode was told, one could say that the rest of their always-short stay in the classroom would go just like that; the pair exchanging food, getting embarrassed, making funny remarks and overall enjoying one another, just like every day.
However, the sushi wouldn't be the last surprise of the day. It was Friday, after all! By now, the duo would've finished with their meal and should've cleaned up after them.
"Say, Mai-chan... do you want to go to the movies today with me?" The query was presented seconds before the bell that signaled their return to class sounded. It had been a bit sudden, but if her friend responded affirmatively, the same smile as when she accepted to be feed would ensue. "I'll pick you at seven, and! Um...it's gonna be a date!"
Before Maia could react in any way to that last statement, the bell rang, and an uncannily swift Amy left the room, heading to her next class The abominations that had been chasing Maia and Kuuyubey halted instantly at the process going underway, yet... that was not the only reaction that a new magical girl being born caused.
At the distance, coming directly from Amelie's witch form, a wail pierced the air; it was a deep and sad tune that took over for a couple of seconds, almost as if the... thing currently there was weeping. Or lamenting a failure of her own, maybe? Interestingly, her so-called 'familiars' seemed to lose a good deal of their power after hearing that song, easily getting ensnared by the blonde's brand-new powers.
After that, Maia would be able to reach the place she had struggled to get to with relative ease. What would she find there? Her best friend's witch form was there, of course, yet... it didn't move at all, almost as if the magical girl's presence had entirely frozen her. Was that due to fear? Or maybe, admiration? Could it be sadness?
Maybe all of them, or neither; after her call, in a slowly, yet sure motion, something seemed to... exit from within the monstrosity's membranes. Almost as if treading outside, there she was; a form that the magical girl would recognize all too well.
It was Amelie, donning her own magical girl outfit. However, there were two very distinct differences, at least in regards to how her friend would remember her. Her weapon, a thin and rigid needle-like spear, was nowhere to be found, and most importantly... that the bracelet on her left wrist, that in the past had held a soul gem, now held something way... sadder; a grief seed that had two distinct flowers as emblems. A marigold at the top and... an anemone at the bottom.
"You... you did it." Those words carried the heavy weight of regret and grief. Tears began to freely descend from the brunette's cheeks. "I'm a horrible senior. This wasn't the example I wanted to set. I'm... so sorry, Mai. I really am."
She just stood there, holding her gaze, yet unable to move. It was the most painful feeling Amy had experienced in her life; being completely unable to face her best friend. Not like this.
"I didn't want any of this. I really didn't." Pain and regret made the otherwise serene voice raspy, mournful and desperate. "Please, believe me, Mai. I just want to... go back to our old life. I miss it so badly."
As pitiful as that sounded, she'd give anything to go back. Just hanging out to and have lunch every day; so simple, so happy... so far away.

If only the blonde could take a dip in Amelie's mind. It was a shame that she would never be able to fully understand that her words made someone so special so happy! And, if she could? Surely, Mai would never believe it.
Then again, she could barely believe the expression that was made when she complied with her senpai's request! Was Amy nervous? Happy? The girl couldn't tell. In a way, she wanted to tease her friend on the reaction. But, instead, Mai pretended not to notice. After all, she was still waiting for her treat! Feeling the item touch her tongue, the blonde closed her lips around it, pausing for a second to allow the chopsticks to retreat from her lips. Blinking innocently at her senpai, the blonde gave a small smile, before leaning back a little to chew the item.
A blush deepened across the girl's face, seeing Amelie's smile. Why was she looking like that? Did Maia have something on her face? This, of course, made chewing a lot harder, since she was pre-occupied with her friend's expression! As such, her swallow may have been a little too audible. How was it? Had she really tasted it? There was a pause, as the teen realized that she was almost shaking. What from?
Happiness? Nervousness?
"It's really good!" Mai finally insisted, with a bright smile. "I'd definitely like more, if you don't mind." Of course Amy wouldn't! She had already said there was enough to share!
Time would pass with the two continuing their usual routine for lunch. At least, until their lunch was coming to a close. Somehow, the question had caught her off-guard! Even though, it shouldn't, should it? "A movie?" What kind of movie? Would it be scary? Funny? Romant-- She needed to answer the question. Their lunch was almost over! "Sure! That sounds fun," the amber-eyed girl smiled.
And the smiling continued, as if someone had hit the pause button on the blonde. Oh! Seven sounded good! And it was a date!
It was a...
The ringing of the bell unpaused the teen, as she finally moved, and lips parted slowly. Smile still remained on her lips, though confusion would be obvious behind her eyes. Head tilted, while processing the statement, but Amy had already fled!
"A... date?"
It seemed that her transformation had been more than efficient in stopping the familiars from continuing on. And, whatever monster had consumed her friend was displaying distress. It sounded sad! Was it upset that Maia had intent to steal Amy's attention from the creature she had become? Was it afraid that she was going to challenge it?
Was it afraid that it would lose to her? Or, did it fear the outcome of winning?
Was this creature Amy, or was it something entirely different?
Upon reaching the witch with such ease, Kuuyubey lowered itself off of Mai's shoulder, hopping several steps back to avoid being part of the confrontation. The contract-creating creature took a seat, eyes remaining wide as it watched the witch. Why wasn't it attacking? Through many cycles, Kuuyubey hadn't quite seen one like this. "That's... impossible," it stated, a hint of wonder to its words.
A magical girl was coming back from the dead? From the captivity of becoming an abomination of mass destruction? Was this the power of a vague wish? Or, did Maia truly have potential that Kuuyubey had failed to notice? Yellow eyes fixed on the newly born magical girl, trying to assess if there had been something it had missed.
But, the only thing he could see that erred on the side of abnormal was the already blackening soul gem attached to the girl's throat. In the short time that they had been standing there, it was already visibly growing darker by the second.
Was it possible that she was using magic to draw Amy out?
Amber eyes widened at the sight of her mentor crying. Biting her lower lip, the teen swallowed the lump in her throat. Don't cry. It would only make Amy feel worse. "N-no. You're not horrible," she insisted, with a shake of her head. "This isn't your fault."
Don't cry.
"I know you didn't." Shivers slipped up the girl's skin, in a feeble attempt to keep her own tears down. She couldn't. Not in front of Amy. She could do this. She could stay strong. Not just for her. For both of them. "Then..! Come back," Maia started, as if this were the easiest thing in the world. Blinking away glassy vision, to try to better see her senpai, the girl reached out a gloved hand.
It was a trap.
"Mai!" The soul gem on her friend's wrist was long gone. It wasn't restoring. It wasn't going to. No matter what magic or wish Maia made, it was never going to change. Surely, Kuuyubey couldn't be looking at this from the wrong view. If nobody else had succeeded in a wish like this, why would Maia be the first?
Was she truly so hopeful? Did she have that much power to succeed? Would she... sacrifice herself to save someone else? With magic waning, the blonde wouldn't have much longer to succeed in pulling Amy back to her prior life. This was her only chance.
Fingers stretched out, begging for Amy to take hold. And, finally, tears began to slide down the girl's cheeks. She couldn't hold them back. She couldn't be strong.
"Don't let me lose you again. Please."

How had Amelie gotten the courage to ask her best friend on a date was something that had constantly been swirling in her head, even when knocking her house's door. The shadow of doubt loomed tall in the back of the brunette's mind, up to the point that even the prospect of her feelings being unrequited wasn't all that bad.
What if Mai thought she was some kind of weirdo, or a freak? What if she didn't want to be her friend anymore, after such an outlandish proposal? The mere thought of those outcomes wasn't helping the fact that small beads of sweat were already forming in her brow. Luckily, it was a somewhat warm summer day, so that could pass as the weather being mean to her, after walking for a bit.
Despite this, Amy was trying to looking her best; sure, her wardrobe wasn't particularly expansive, and she wasn't a fan of accessories, but even when donning the relatively austere style of a plain, dark blue sleeveless shirt, a matching tartan skirt, and her everyday shoes, she managed to look somewhat cute.
Or that's what she thought, at least. Just as the old saying goes; 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.
Speaking of which! As soon as Mai opened the door, the brunette managed to forget all of her previous tribulations and smile radiantly at her friend's appearance.
"Hey, Mai-chan." She greeted, her tone the tiniest bit coy, but mostly casual. "Those clothes look really cute on you! Are you ready to go?" That comment might do with the fact that some of her clothes matched, but that was... a good thing, right? Great minds think alike! Or something along those lines.
In the face of a positive response, Amy would take her best friend's hand and lead the way. "There's this scary movie I've wanted to see for a bit. Maybe you've heard about it? It's called The Abess... or something like that, I think!"
With any luck, it'd be a good movie! Had something gone wrong? Was the movie bad? Why she insisted on being so neurotic with Mai around? Once again, Amy had been questioning herself as the two got into the theater.
Weirdly enough, the room was next to empty, the girls themselves being among the handful of humans that were interested in watching the movie. And, while on one side, the prospect of being pretty much alone with Mai in a dark room was enough to double Amy's heart rate, getting her to a bad movie when the date had been her own idea did a good job at normalizing it.
The brunette decided to stuff her insecurities into her popcorn bucket as she watched, and, in all honesty? Even if the movie wasn't going to win any Oscars, at least it did a good job at keeping any viewers interested.
Not to say that, although Amelie herself enjoyed horror movies, she couldn't avoid reacting a bit... physically at them; covering her face with her hands, while conveniently leaving an opening for her eyes, gasping or even slightly jumping on the edge of her chair at a particularly scary scene. Amy probably could make a slightly annoying spectacle all on her own, even if unwittingly!
Imagine both her fear and wonder when the theater progressively began changing, becoming a recollection of numbers and mathematical symbols. As the enigmatic signs slowly took over, one of the walls was wrecked unceremoniously, something bashing through it and remaining... inert on the floor. The previous feelings were replaced by horror that slowly dawned on Amy's mind as she recognized that it was a vaguely humanoid shape.
Unconsciously, the brunette's hand took her friend's and squeezed. "What's happening? This can't be part of the movie..."
Before the question could be answered, a small, white, ferret-like creature went through that same opening; it quickly made a beeline towards the girls.
"Mai, Amy!" The creature called out, its disembodied voice carrying directly into each of their minds. "We don't have time! I need for you to make a contract with me! Make a wish, any wish!"
Amy stood where she was, frozen yet still holding her best friend's hand rather tightly. The suddenness of the situation filled her with distrust, not to say that her mind was still trying to wrap around these strange events.
"Can you at least explain what's happening? At least a tiny bit?" With any luck, Maia wouldn't be as impulsive as to take this strange chance without weighing it first. Especially since none of them were aware of the looming danger... Truth was that Maia's words had a real impact. The witch's boundary seemed to grow weaker by the second, almost as if it were violently unraveling under the supreme weight of the bond shared between the two girls.
A puffy-eyed Amelie could only stare at the gesture of undiluted friendship she had been offered. "Y-You..." Why was this happening? Mai... Mai couldn't possibly be serious, right? "Have you seen me? I'm... I'm an abomination, Mai! How could you want me back after all the things I did?"
The number of lives that had been forfeit and the damage that the city withstood was just the tip of the iceberg. The blonde probably knew that more than well, yet wanted her back. And the worst part was that Amy knew that she was being genuine; that she meant every word.
Slowly, on a motion that could only be described as extremely shy, the gloved hand offered was taken into Amelie's own. It might have been an illusion, but if an avid observer cared about it, they would have been able to see that, almost for a split second, the girl's grief seed showed signs of making a serious attempt at... reverting back to normal.
What had been a tenuous hold on Maia's hand took mere moments to turn into a full-fledged, tight hug. That had ultimately been Amy's desire, and what she truly yearned for; to recover that feeling of closeness with the person she cared about the most. Mai would probably feel the wetness of Amy's tears across her face and neck firsthand. "I... I wouldn't be able to bear with losing you again." The sincerity on those words was as genuine as it could be. Yet, the intent behind them wasn't pure.
"We won't have to go through this again." The shared space between the two teenagers felt tighter, almost... smothering. Or maybe that was because the blonde's own soul gem was trying to choke her? Somebody wasn't quite right, and who was behind it was rather easy to guess. "We'll be together. Forever."
Violently, the grief seed that had progressively been turning into a soul gem reverted to its original state. Amelie's body suddenly dissolved and deformed; in an instant, Mai's best friend had been replaced by a grotesque tendril that enveloped her whole body in a slimy, yet tight hold.
And, in a split second, the limb would retract, trying to whisk away the unwitting girl into the witch's main body.
Had... had their friendship not been enough?

Thanks Mar!
There it was. Hearing the knock, any panic that Maia had been containing was suddenly amplified. Heart felt like it wanted to flee from her body, with how fast it was pounding! After a second too many, the girl finally turned the handle on the door, allowing herself to take in the current moment.
And for another second, everything felt calm. Amy was speaking, and everything felt like it should just fall into place! Once the compliment on her clothes caught up with her, the blonde began to blush. "Oh! Thank you!" Was it proper to tell Amy that her clothes did, also? Looking over the blue, which matched her own clothing, the girl selected a different comment. "We almost match!" Was that a silly thing to notice? Was it dumb?
Mai thought it was kind of cute to match.
Of course, to the next question, she gave an affirmative nod. Of course she was ready to go! She'd been ready since class had ended! Feeling her hand being taken, the blonde was quick to follow her senpai. Mai wasn't actually as curious about what movie they'd be seeing, as she was about the idea of this being a date. It didn't really matter where they went, as long as the brunette was with her.
She'd follow Amy anywhere, really.
But, the choice was a horror movie? "Oh! I have!" Of course she had heard of it. Mai was quite the fan of scary things! "I've been wanting to see it, actually!"
Not to say that it would be the best movie on the market. Mai was already well aware that horror movies had a tendency to be a bit predictable, if not just outright ridiculous. But, it was still an interesting thing to watch! And, even better to watch with her date! Or, perhaps, it was better just to watch her date! Any spooky parts were quickly quelled by Amy's reactions to them. On occasion, the brunette might hear a small giggle come from her underclassman friend. It wasn't to be mean! But, Mai couldn't help it when her senpai would jump or gasp at the scenes!
Granted, a new scene seemed to be forming that warranted a more concerned reaction. Feeling the hand wrapping around hers again, Mai found herself returning the gesture, tightening the hold a little. "If it is, they put a lot of work into this movie," she admitted, quietly.
This couldn't be real, could it? It had to be special effects! Or... Or something! Ferrets didn't talk and whatever that other thing was couldn't exist! But, movies couldn't know their names to directly talk to them, right? That had to be entirely out of budget. Leaning closer to Amy, the blonde stared towards the ferret creature. And, while her best friend was willing to listen to the strange creature's explanation, she was more concerned about getting away from the situation. Amy would feel a small tug on her hand, to try to get her attention.
"A-are you sure we shouldn't just... run?"
But, running wasn't an option anymore.
Hand remained offered. There was nothing to lose. No place to run. "You're not," she insisted, unwavering. Amy couldn't be an abomination. She was there. She was... Amy. She was Mai's best friend! She was too important! "It's okay. It doesn't matter." It wasn't Amy's fault that she had become like this! It wasn't her fault that she had become like this!
Feeling the touch, Mai couldn't help but smile. Tears or not, maybe there was still a chance at a happy ending. Everything could be fixed. Lives may have been lost, but Amy's didn't have to be one of them!
As far as Kuuyubey's mind went, however, he could only find confusion to this matter. Was Amy's grief seed really trying to change back? Had he found a way to continue tapping into the powers of a magical girl, even after they'd fallen into despair? If he had -- well -- that was a whole new resource that his species may be able to work with!
Feeling the wetness of tears on her skin that weren't her own, Mai moved her hands to return the hug, tightening the hold between the girls. "You won't," she reassured.
Of course she wouldn't.
An air of claustrophobia began to hit the blonde, as she found her breathing falter. Shivering began to force itself across the girl's body, as it struggled against something. Was it herself? Was it...
"Amy?"
Voice was strained, as she tightened her own side of the hug. Between the tension that held her in place, and the inability to find air, she couldn't manage to even try to pull away from the other girl. Soul gem further blackened, as its original color became impossible to distinguish. And, as the trap had been revealed, she found herself powerless.
Nobody was there to save her. Amy was gone. And, Kuuyubey was already backing away from the scene. It was appearing that he was right. She couldn't be saved. But, there was more than one way to 'help' her dear friend, who had fallen into such a state, despite his insistence. Wasn't there?
Lips parted, trying to catch her breath. Even with the tendril pulling her in, she couldn't find the energy to resist. The tears had stopped, despite her cheeks being stained and wet. The blonde could feel pieces of her body begin to numb. Was this the numbness that magical girls could will themselves to, or was it just the feeling of life fading? Was it despair? Or a consequence of using all of her magic in a failed attempt at saving someone?
Was this really where Amy wanted to lead her? To be devoured by the beast? Was that what her friend truly desired?
While some may have found a way to escape the creature before it could draw them away, the magical girl instead forced a small smile. And with the smile, a crack spread across the blackened gem on her throat. Black haze would threaten to slip from the crack, trying to further crumble the soul gem, all while the blonde risked being absorbed by the person that was closest to her.
She'd follow Amy anywhere.
Even if this is where it led.

How unrealistic the whole situation threw the brunette off-balance, that was for sure. Maia was pretty good at returning Amelie's line of thought to a sane place; her words always managed to keep her centered.
"You're right. We need to find a way o-"
"That won't work!" Kuuyubey interrupted, his tone becoming a bit more urgent. "Once you've entered a witch's boundary, there's no way out unless the witch is defeated or decides to retreat!"
After giving the 'room' a quick look, Amy couldn't but agree with the weird creature. The whole place had been heavily distorted, pretty much abandoning any resemblance to its previous appearance. If she could describe it in some way, it was almost as if being inside a crazy mathematician's mental landscape.
"The witch is coming! There's no way a normal human being will be able to face a witch! I need you to make a wish, quick!"
As if to emphasize the weird animal's point, a heavily deformed limb that vaguely resembled a ruler broke through the wall; slowly, something that could only be described as a monster waddled its way through the gap. Amy's grip on Mai's hand tightened as she swallowed; she wanted to run as fast as she could, but her feet were just frozen in their place.
Not like there was anywhere to run, anyway. A pencil-like body was the next thing the teenager saw, and before she willed herself to scream in terror, an eraser with two small orifices on it was staring at them with a wicked expression, mere meters away from the duo.
It had closed the gap that separated them really fast! And now was threatening to attack the two girls with what seemed like... a barrage of mechanical pencil leads.
In a moment of lucidity, before unconsciously bracing herself for what would probably be a lethal impact no matter what, the brunette found a sliver of resolution within her mind. As a senior and... probably something more, she had to do something about this.
"I wish... I wish to protect Mai, no matter what!" While it was true that Kuuyubey insisted on being bothersome every now and then in regards to Mai's contract, at the very least, Amelie remained steadfast on her resolution to remain as far away from the Magical Girl business as she could. After all, that was just an unnecessary cog in the machine that was the duo's daily lives. She didn't want to save the world or anything of the sort. For her, living her everyday routine was already as close as she could get to a perfect lifestyle.
Had the duo's relationship improved after that weird date? Did they just remain as friends, or agreed to keep on dating? Amy's memories became hazier and hazier as the days went by; maybe she had missed a critical detail? Was it normal for the strange gem that had manifested upon her wish to blacken with each passing day? She didn't know, and, in all honesty, she couldn't bring herself to care.
What mattered was that her best friend was still at her side, that their days together were happier than ever and that she had the power to protect her if the need ever arose again. The brunette couldn't ask for more, even if she tried.
There was one thing that she wasn't aware of, and that would result in a proverbial spanner in the works. After a full month of inactivity as a Magical Girl, the Soul Gem finally began to collapse under to its own pollution. The first cracks appeared on its surface.
A day later, Amelie would be nowhere to be found; A week after that? A certain witch would begin a relentless rampage on Shibuya's downtown. Despite the witch's initially rough actions, its insides were... comfortable, in their own way. As a nursery of sorts, it seemed to be designed to calm whoever was inside. Forcibly.
Was that to provide a measure of solace and comfort to anybody unlucky enough to be caught in the aberration's clutches? Or was it a tranquilizing measure to reduce the chances for its victims to resist?
Maybe a bit of both.
Would Maia be aware that the witch's intent wasn't quite to kill her? One could say that its nature, just like when she was alive wasn't to destroy. A vague desire moved it to fulfill a promise. A wish, so to say; if the incubator wasn't able to fulfill it, the abomination would take its task on her own... hands.
Even if it meant to end Maia's existence as she knew it, Amelie was bent on protecting her, no matter what. The blonde wouldn't feel any harm coming to her, just the slimy caress of the witch's inner tendrils; each of them was meant to rouse feelings that probably weren't all that dormant. Memories of two girls, sharing their days together. Past, present and future.
If delirious enough, one could say that they weren't devoid of affection or purpose. That they still were carrying out the deepest desire hidden in the aberration's psyche. Even if their bodies and their very cores changed, one thing would remain constant.
When two beings were destined to be together, things like cosmical forces, magical girls or weird-looking extraterrestrials were secondary. [Exit Thread]

[Just to finish this up here finallyyyyy.]
It seemed that the time was up for the two of them to live normal lives. After all, Maia's suggestion to flee wasn't one that was going to work! Feeling Amy's hold on the blonde's hand tighten, it was obvious that a decision had to be made quickly. But, what was to be done? Mai didn't even know what she would wish for, given the chance!
And, she wouldn't need to know now, either.
Because Amy beat her to the need of making a wish. And of all things, it was to... protect her? Hopefully, she would be able to deserve such a selfless wish.
And now that she had been consumed by a potentially more selfish witch, the teen had a moment to reflect. Consciousness faded in and out, much like the haze that seeped from her soul gem. What had Amy felt, leading up to her own emergence of something different? Was this it? A bit of a hopelessness? Perhaps, a bit of relief?
Would Mai ever really know?
Slowly, fingers would twitch.
Did the creature that Amy became remember anything? Did it remember when they had first met? Their lunches together? Some of their final meetings before Amy had just... disappeared?
Could it feel the sadness creeping through its captive's skin? Pouring from the soul gem that cracked a little more with each thought? With each movement? As her hand raised, despite the tendrils within her 'prison' -- 'home?' -- the gem began to hiss. As if someone had thrown it into a flame.
I wished...
The hissing finally ceased, as the item caved in. A pop, as the remaining blackness came pouring out.
A wish. A sacrifice.
I just wished--
A final gasp of air came from the girl, before haze engulfed her. Strange symbols beginning to warp around the morphing blackness, as it pushed through tendrils -- and inevitably the body of the creature that had consumed it -- to draw itself into reality. Though, it seemed that the 'birth' of the new being was not with intent of injuring the makeshift incubator. Instead, it escaped in as small of an opening as it could.
No matter the form, it never wanted to hurt Amy.
Ribbons and lace would be the first things to fully form, several wrapping delicately around the horror made of tendrils. And then, a far more lanky creature, donned in white robes would flicker into existence, face covered by a fox-esque mask. It would wrap itself, much like the ribbons, around the original witch, intent on staying close to what had once been its closest friend. Or, potentially, more.
One had a selfless wish. The other, a selfish one.
How was it that the 'selfless' witch looked like an Eldritch horror, while the 'selfish' one looked like a creature that had once been a priestess?
Perhaps, a life of servitude was forced upon the newly created being, for wanting something so selfish. After all, she had never asked her friend what she should do in a case like this. Did Amy actually want to be human again? Had Maia cared?
That hadn't been the point of the wish, after all.
More ribbons would ripple outward, crashing down on nearby buildings, as small fox-like beings began to circle 'Amy' in their own protective manner. They would ensure that nobody would ever ruin the girls' wishes.
To ensure that their own host's wish would remain fulfilled.
I wish I could be with Amy. Forever.
Nothing would separate them now.
