Of course, the trip would be rather short. Soon enough, the car would appear in front of what looked like... a completely-destroyed building.
"Just peachy. Is today the 'we're gonna destroy everything' day or something?" In all honesty, this was getting rather frustrating for Amelie! She descended from the car, staring at the ruins with a bit of an angry expression. "Hope that cat isn't dead or something or I'm gonna get really angry."
Without losing a moment, a small message was issued. AmyST: Hey, Doc. Are you alive? I'm at your place in Whitewater and it seems like somebody decided to pay a visit. Is everyone else alright? I'm beginning to get a little concerned. Hopefully he'd answer, because explaining to a daughter that her father just kicked the bucket wasn't something she was looking forward to. Like at all.
By now, Luke would've probably descended from the car with Isaac on tow. "So, I guess this is a good moment to begin telling me what exactly happened. Or better yet, maybe we should go to a café or something; talking about this kinda stuff while staring at... this would be a bit depressing, anyway. And the little guy looks like he's seen better days; he probably could use a glass of water, at the very least."
Maybe drinking something cold and sweet would help her ease her nerves a bit. And improve her current relatively nasty disposition.

Indeed... that was not what Luke wanted to see. With the wounded Impmon in his arms, he would have liked to drop Isaac off with someone more capable than himself... but considering the kind of day it was, that wasn't in the cards.
"Could it be related?" Luke's musing came across as more tired and frustrated than anything else. But fortunately, Amelie didn't have too much to worry about. Cat M.D.: Oh that? Its complicated, but old news. I've moved to the Library and sold the lot. Cat M.D.: Also, glad to hear from you. Glad you're not caught up in the news - Luminas report on the desert looks nasty. Stay safe. So, at the very least, the doctor wasn't dead. Luke had hopped out of the car - with Amelie likely more level after Mikemon's explanation, he gave a nod to her suggestion. "If you mean what happened with Isaac, I can go through that. If you mean in the desert, I have no fucking idea, but we can trade facts and try to piece it together. Did you go inside that weird eyeball thing?"
Thankfully, the streets weren't too crowded - and as the two would make their way down the street, towards the market district, they'd start to see the immediate aftereffects of the 'desert incident'. Strabimon and Angemon reported of stark lightning and D-Reaper swarms in the area - some were already claiming the rebirth of an ancient god.
Wherever there was a TV, a crowd gathered - but at least the cafes were relatively empty! Stepping into a small shop, Luke stepped into line, letting Amelie in front.
"... Guess I'll just pretend he's my tired partner for now..."

That reply managed to ease Amelie's nerves a bit, even though it didn't do much to make her feel less frustrated. AmyST: Glad you're alright, then. But, next time you could tell me this kinda stuff happened before it becomes 'old news'. AmyST: I'm honestly not sure about what happened, even though I was there... but hope to find out at least something in a bit. Catch you later, and make sure to hug Syre for me. After typing somewhat furiously, a sigh ensued. The poor D-Terminal wasn't at fault for her frustrations, but at least the device couldn't complain, so that was fine.
"Nah, don't worry. Apparently, I'm not important enough for a certain cat doctor, so he didn't tell me when his office got smashed to tiny pieces some time ago." Well, that was probably a gross simplification, but she just needed to vent at the moment. Poor Mikemon had just been a victim of collateral damage there.
But the truth was that she felt way more relieved. At least everyone she cared about was more or less alive, with the notable exception of Iko. With any luck, he'd survive the whole ordeal.
"That works for me. Anything that makes me feel a bit less ignorant about everything is fine at this point." Of course, it was only fine for Luke to also have questions of his own. "Yeah, I was there. Can't say I understood jack shit of what was happening inside, but at least I can retell my story and see what we can piece together. We'll probably still be confused as heck, but it's probably better than nothing."
Said and done, the pair (or trio, if you counted the unconscious Impmon currently being held by Luke) went through the streets in the search for the fabled place to sit, all while the first repercussions were beginning to be heard.
At least the small café they found was relatively empty, and the brunette could get a strawberry smoothie and a more or less comfortable place to sit. Things were finally beginning to look up.
"I never thought I'd see the moment a human would pretend another human is their partner, but I guess that today has been a day for a lot for first timers." Finally deciding to take it slow, she took a generous sip of her smoothie. "So... what happened to Isaac? This is the first time I've heard somebody got... 'stuck' as a digimon."
Some answers would be awesome!

Cat M.D.: I didn't mean to leave you in the dark, and there's definitely more to it than that. Cat M.D.: But my phone is blowing up right now. I'm going to be holed up in Luminas for at least a day or two while this whole matter is being discussed. Cat M.D.: ... And again, stay safe. I'll be sure to give Syre a hug, before I head out. It seemed that Amelie wasn't the only frustrated one in all this, but considering everything that happened, it was at least understandable. "Oh, good... I really did not want a literal answer to 'what else could go wrong today'." Letting her vent for the moment, it was clear what they both needed:
Sweet, over-the-top smoothies and a place to sit down and talk. Giving a nod to the spirit wielder, Luke would both follow and lead along, until the pair settled on what looked to be a decent corner cafe, largely vacated as a large group congregated on the other side, next to an outdoor TV. It didn't take long for their orders to go through, Luke quickly settling on a lemon-lime drink, as well as a cup of ice water - just in case the Impmon woke up.
Settling in, taking in a long drink of his own smoothie, Luke gave a nod at her question. "Might as well start at what we do know, right? Well, where to start..."
It was more-or-less straightforward, but as Luke explained, he realized just how haunting the thought might have been: "So, Isaac had volunteered to go on a mission to deal with an early outbreak of the D-Reaper - before even that 'first' big Dark Area incident - and, somehow or another, he managed to take quite a bit of corruptive damage during the mission. So much so that it got to his code." It was there, that he spotted the D-Tector at Amelie's side, and gave a sigh:
"Aside from being stuck in his Impmon form, the primary issue is that, well, he's not able to 'summon' his D-Tector. Like, I obviously don't know how to describe it, but a spirit wielder in their 'spirit form' can keep their D-Tector in their data and draw it out as necessary. That's how it works, I think?" Amelie would know more here - but honestly, being a spirit wielder herself, the loss of such a 'basic need' might prove unsettling.
"At any rate, we met with Dr. Mikemon, and he had the idea to try and either find new, uncorrupted spirits that would be able to summon the D-Tector properly - or 'trick' the system by DNA-evolving with my partner, Iko, into a form that would not have the same issue. To date, there's not been much luck - and at the rate he's going, he's just going to be worse off with the D-Reaper..."
He gave a sigh, shaking his head. "I mean, he means well, of course. But an overzealous thirteen-or-something year old like him's just begging to get in trouble on this side."

Apparently, the good Doctor was in some issues of his own, that managing to concern the brunette to an extent; guess she'd have to be more direct on her queries next time. This just sounded fishy no matter how you looked at it.
But... that was a concern for later, she figured. For now, Amelie just wanted to try and piece what this mess was all about. And while Luke's explanation probably wouldn't be in line with the present, at least understanding what had happened in the past would.
She listened intently to Luke's own tale, not doing more than just nodding or humming in understanding when necessary. She wouldn't talk until her friend was done. But... as soon as he did, she'd begin with her own piece.
"So... basically. The D-Reaper got to him and he lost both the ability to go back to human and to use his D-Tector. Wow; he got fucked up real bad." That was disbelief in her tone; so much, in fact, that she had almost forgotten to answer the question that ensued. "Yeah; most spirit forms can still use the D-Tector for stuff like scanning or cleaning fractal code; it can be handy at times, but not that big of a deal. I can imagine somebody being happy about losing that ability, however."
Of course, the whole deal doesn't end there, and in all honesty... it really did seem like something that wouldn't end well. "I mean... you just saw him trying to face the same being that was hellbent on destroying any and all traces of reaper corruption currently there, you know? That's not being overzealous, in my opinion. That's having a death wish."
The teenager made a small pause, just before adding. "So, what's the plan with him once he wakes up? I'm not trying to salt the wound, but I'd be pretty mad about what happened there, with Iko making sure he didn't get fried to death by taking the blow himself. Honestly? I'd get him in a straight jacket for two days at least, see if he calms down a bit and stops trying to get himself killed. That'd help quite a bit, I think."
All in all, it was a pity that Isaac wasn't able to regain his humanity, or even his D-Tector, but... to Amelie, that didn't seem like a valid reason to put others' well-being in jeopardy.

It didn't take long for Amelie to get the long and short of it, Luke giving an affirmative nod at Amelie's understanding. "Honestly, he's been doing better than he was. Hard to say it, but he's more-or-less gotten used to the Impmon form, and he really hasn't had many problems with the D-Reaper in his system... today excluded, of course." He gave a sigh, running a napkin over the Impmon's brow - thankfully finding that it hadn't picked up much red this time.
What Amelie said was true, though: Isaac's decisions in the desert had been a little more than a bit 'hopeful'. "I agree. Apart from the fact that the dragon didn't seem to be in a talking mood, I'm pretty sure it didn't even here anything he had to say. No, that seemed to be more like a 'force of nature' than anything rational."
He gave a sigh, perking up quick at that next question. "Well, the plan was to drop him off at Dr. Mikemon's office, but it looks like that one just got shot in the foot. As for Iko..." Luke pulled up his Digivice, looking at the screen with a relieved sigh. "Wherever he is, he's still alive and kicking, though I'm going to hazard a guess that wherever that 'group' is now, they're not looking to be found at the moment. So we'll have to let that cool off... as for Isaac, I'm just going to have to keep an eye on him."
Really, Luke didn't have a good answer. Taking a small sip of his smoothie, he passed the topic over, flipping over a few screens of his Digivice to bring up the scan of that 'eye temple'.
"Let's see... Sakkakumon." The hologram popped up. "Super-Mega equivalent spirit. Known techniques are 'Reflection of Heart', 'Rumble Blend', and 'Fortress of the Sephiroth'. Apparently its a castle-like structure with inner rooms designed after those who have opened their heart to the user..."
Just how did that work, anyway? "How was it, from the inside?"

Once again, the two mostly agreed with each other; and even if Isaac was 'doing better', Amelie managed to respectfully disagree. "That show isn't something anybody with a sliver of common sense would do, in all honesty. But... what do I know? I didn't have the opportunity to interact with the little guy all that much, so I can't say that he was all that sane to begin with; if you think he's doing better, I'll trust your judgment."
Of course, it wasn't like she'd do the small trick Iko did; all bets were off as soon as he endangered himself for an obviously hopeless cause. "When a chained dragon that's as big as the whole desert descends, I doubt it's just because he wants to have a friendly chat with the lifeforms below, in all honesty. Heck, I doubt if he could even hear us among the sound of thunder crackling around."
First rule of diplomacy: negotiating with somebody who isn't interested in negotiating is as useless as it comes. "Mighty seldom means benevolent, if I have learned anything in my travels through this world."
A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless. At least getting a confirmation about Iko being alive managed to pierce the bleak panorama with some good news. Not everything was bad, even though... "You know, it was pretty brave of him to act as a shield. Had that attack carried all the force it should, he would probably be dead meat. I hope he can recover. Just like... everyone else; here's hoping you can reunite when everything cools down."
Sakkakumon, huh? That was an interesting name for an interesting digimon, Amy had to admit. However, Luke would probably be in for a disappointment. "At least where my group ended seemed to be a fairly normal place; a mirror gallery of sorts that had a Mercurymon within. We fought against her until she got tired, then advanced to the central room that just looked like... a crude sphere. I can't say I understand a fair deal of what happened, but at least I got this for my trouble."
She placed the flash drive on the table, then shrugged. "Honestly? I have no idea what's inside, and logically I haven't had enough time to check it out, but I hope to at least find some answers there? Or maybe even more questions; I wouldn't be surprised at this point."
Hopefully, it'd be the former and not the latter!

Post by Elliot and Isaac Sunderland on Oct 17, 2018 3:03:13 GMT
Isaac had no idea how long he had been out for. While Amelie and Luke's journey was surprisingly timely, Isaac's perception of those events warped under the strain of his own dreaming. Had he spent hours out? Days? Perhaps even a week? There was no obvious marker, no tell he could rely on. There was only the painfully lively eyes of a body he formerly called his own, and the many wonderful sights that it had to show him. Even when the boy's wild Reaper-fueled thrashing had subsided he was still clearly feeling the after-effects of the dreaming. He tossed and turned weakly in Iko's arms, occasionally making murmurs that wouldn't sound out of place on a wounded animal.
Then, with an almost painfully abruptness, the nightmares came to an end. Isaac's stomach lurched as if rocketing out from the bottom of the ocean, and as his eyes snapped open from the sheer force of how deeply he gasped. The boy took several quick, harsh breaths, coughing and sputtering all the while. What the hell kind of grip did his own mind have on him if it left him in a state like this?
Immediately Isaac looked around, eyes narrowing as he started to adapt to the brightness. Where was he? There was no desert. No scarring. No being caught between a dragon and a gooey place. He was safe. In fact, he was in rather quaint arrangements. They were plush, and homey, and smelled uncomfortably like work. Where could he even be right now?
Oh. A café. Of course. Honestly, after all he had been through, Isaac would take it.
He was much less willing to accept the rather important omission from the café, though. As his vision returned to him, Isaac could see Luke was with him. So was . . . the girl from the Shibuya train station? Amelie? Huh. Small world. But if Luke was here, then . . .
"Where . . . where's Iko?"

"Well, I more meant that he was doing better 'physically'. I really can't help Isaac from being Isaac." Luke gave a sigh, shaking his head at that omission. Isaac was a good kid - a really good, ethical kid - but sometimes he simply couldn't get past his own naivete.
Of course, Luke agreed with the rest of the points regarding the Azulongmon - and as the topic shifted back to Iko, the tamer managed a sigh. "I know Iko - he probably had some sort of plan. I think he managed to just barely disengage his armor to weaken the flow of the current to the rest of his body. And... well, I hope so too."
That depressing thought aside, Luke listened intently as Amelie spoke of her experience inside the Sakkakumon. A mirror gallery? "Well, with a Mercurymon, I guess that makes sense. I wonder how much control they had to make those sorts of rooms... hm?"
Seeing the flash drive, Luke gave a blink, turning it once over. "Well, no time like the present, right? You mind if I give it a shot?" Presuming he'd have permission, he'd pull out his D-Terminal, and flick the wireless button on the side - just in case. The Dextrous has logged out. Following that, he would go through another few options - a smaller version of the 'desktop' opening in the middle of the screen - as he would finally plug that USB in, a sizeable file beginning to upload.
That would take a few minutes, at least. Setting it on its stand, he felt the Impmon, just then, give a lurch on his lap. "Whoa, whoa, careful, there..." Thankfully, it seemed to be 'dry', the Impmon slowly coming to terms with where he is. At that, he'd move the Impmon to his own chair, briefly passing the back of his 'real' hand against his head.
Where was Iko? How could Luke explain it without making him panic?
"Don't worry - he managed to evacuate with another group." He wasn't telling a lie, so his tone was confident enough. "As for us, I just booked it on the bike, picking up Amelie on the way. Now, here." He would carefully put the cup of ice water into the Impmon's hand, before offering Isaac an extra strength Tylenol from his bag.
"Don't try and stand up. We're in Whitewater, its safe."

Ultimately, Amelie sighed. Even if she had gotten a bit rash, the truth was that Luke had a point. "I guess that becoming a digimon didn't make him any less hardheaded. If anything... I'd almost say that the actual opposite happened, but I can't say for sure. Can't say I know Isaac enough, but he seemed like a slightly more reasonable person back when I met him."
At least it was a bit of a relief that Iko's chances of surviving weren't as bad as the brunette had initially thought. For now... they'd let that slide, mostly since they have more important stuff to think about, like... the flash drive she had gotten. Luke got it, and began to access its information from his D-Terminal.
"Be my guest. Tell me what you find." Not like they'd have a lot of time to single-mindedly get to it, however; Isaac's eventual wake seemed to surprise both teenagers, even if the male was the one to react faster.
"Seems like the little imp has managed to wake up." She'd add, with a bit of a teasing grin. "Don't worry; everyone's safe as far as we know. Don't exert yourself and try to get some rest. We're not going anywhere."
Luke was definitely doing a better job than her, but that also ebbed from the fact that he seemed to be closer to Isaac than her. Not something she could complain about.

Indeed, the Impmon hadn't managed to wake up - still dazed, but likely still able to listen in. At the very least, he hadn't jumped up out of his chair to try and find Iko, so Luke felt alright just keeping an eye on him.
Or, at least Amelie would be able to see, as Luke started to see the file download. "Very raw..." Seeing several garbled file names line up in a column, streaming down a new folder, Luke tried to make sense of it. "It looks like what might happen if you were to just copy a video game and put it on a blank disc. Without a proper translator, you end up with a pile of unreadable code. In short..."
He clicked a file or two. "I believe what we're looking at is the 'read-version' of a Digimon's data - most likely that weird dragon that we saw in the... hm." Alright, now he had an idea. Pulling out his D-Arc, he opened up the file for Azulongmon, and plugged his Digivice into the terminal.
That seemed to do something. The files themselves took a somewhat more readable form - wireframes of Azulongmon's data, text in a language he couldn't possibly comprehend...
It took Luke a moment, but it finally clicked.
"If they were looking for something like this... they were probably just trying to emulate the statue's signal."
It clicked, but honestly, that might have been guessed from the start. Letting the file continue to process, he pondered the situation as a whole. "Hm... what was the place like, on the outside, when you got there?" Luke tried to get a better image of what was going on: "Iko and I only showed up because of the D-Reaper itself. Did you see how that Sakkakumon was set up, or what it was like on the outside, before?"

Ultimately, it was a good thing that Isaac was still more or less unconscious. Knowing him, he probably wouldn't be able to fully digest the situation around him, and that was worrisome to an extent; not to say that he seemed to be understandably distressed about Iko's whereabouts.
That had the potential to backfire rather badly. Luckily, it had not and the duo could focus on the interesting bit of information that had been more or less thrown in Amelie's way. Not knowing what to expect from it, Luke's words didn't come as a surprise; something garbled and not very discernable went line in line the appearance of the group that had handed her the flash drive.
"That dragon's data, huh? That could be very interesting, depending on what's exactly there or depending on how much you're able to decipher it." Using the digivice simultaneously seemed like a smart idea, and now Amy could even see a vague shape of Azulongmon's appearance, even if... not much more. But a beginning's a beginning.
"The statue's signal?" She parroted, not sure of what her friend meant. "Why would anyone want to do that? Thus far, every time I've stumbled into an effigy of any kind there has been trouble, people trying to destroy it, or people randomly seeming like they'd die at any moment. And without the thing's actual power, it seems like it would even be more useless if you ask me."
Deciding that she probably didn't have the whole picture, she shifted to Luke's question. "Outside? It was a bit of an interesting scene." The brunette made a small pause, trying to reminisce any details that her immediate memory might've missed. "There was a ruined spire outside and the remains of the attack that had dealt with it. Other than that, it looked exactly like Folder Desert, as far as I'm aware. Well, if you exclude the giant eyeball-thingy that was dangerously near that."
Truthfully, Amelie hadn't been all that focused on the events transpiring before the Sakkakkumon before entering. After a shrug, she added. "Piecing something over there? Because I still have no clue on what happened."

"Interesting, yes - but its a matter of figuring out how its useful. Why would someone need this data at all?"
This was definitely churning out more questions than answers at the moment. As the file upload fully completed, after making a copy, Luke safely removed the USB and passed it back to Amelie - before labeling that first copy 'root', and creating a second copy to mess around with.
Amelie's question raised a good point... if a bit rushed. "Well... we have to consider that the information on this wasn't spread evenly. We shouldn't think of this one as another question, but as a possibility: the effigies are important because of their signal. And I don't think it was a coincidence that, once the Sakkakumon appeared, the D-Reaper showed up."
Indeed, he was piecing something together. "That would leave two possibilities. Either the Sakkakumon itself drew the D-Reaper here, or there's something inherent about the effigy that kept the D-Reaper away. If we assume its the second part, maybe they were simply trying to figure out a way to either recreate or weaponize the signal?"
It made sense, but it frustrated him: "But to do that, they would've had to have known that the statue was vital. Desert or not, it put the whole place at risk - and without telling anyone beforehand, the entire D-Reaper mess drew in a crowd from all over, only to be put right in the heart of that storm." And judging by what happened to Kan and 'Emma' - yes, he heard that name echo out - the group who pulled this off didn't have full control of the situation.
"Whoever tried to do this must have felt desperate..."

Luke's question resonated within Amy's mind. In all honesty? She didn't understand the reasons behind whoever facilitated what happened back there, and each time she made the attempt... more questions sprung in her mind.
"That's pretty much what I've been asking myself. Wonder if we can decipher what they wanted... if it makes any sense at all, that is."
It was true that her point was maybe a bit... shortsighted, but it wasn't like this whole conversation was based on assumptions? Most had a pretty sizable chance of being erroneous, anyway. "Their signal, huh? I guess that if you want to lure the D-Reaper to a place for... whatever reason, that's fine." She made a pause for a second, considering her wording, then shaking her head. "Except that luring the D-Reaper anywhere seems like the worst idea I've heard in a while. I can't fathom what is to be gained from inventing such a... vile device, honestly."
If there was any existing technology that could lure the D-Reaper out of its hiding place and rouse it into action, there was no doubt in the brunette's mind; it should be destroyed as soon as possible, and without any questions, preferably.
On the other hand, if the signal drew away the D-Reaper, well... that was something entirely different, and way more interesting! "Wonder if something like that can really be done, though. Somehow, I doubt the solution to the whole issue is gonna be that simple. But I guess that the best we can do is to just... try and discern what was the intent of the people there? And even then, it seems a little pointless."
Not to say that the repercussions of the small experiment in the desert had been sizable, considering how everything was still in the news! "Do you think they were successful in their small experiment? Or at least that they discovered... something? Because the whole situation is kinda worrisome."

"Would it be a signal that draws the D-Reaper in, though? Surely if something like that existed, these sorts of incidents would be far more common..."
Was that right? Luke's tone suggested that he was uncertain to some degree, but their reasoning was starting to piece itself together in his head. Having someone to bounce these ideas off of was certainly helpful at this point, even if the discussion might not have served much purpose.
Amelie's last question proved particularly interesting: did they succeed in what they were planning to do? "... If they were successful, I would have to question why they would have freely handed out such a raw copy of their information." Luke pondered the point, a little longer. "I... I would guess that they were desperate. Whatever they were trying to do, this was the most solid plan that they could think of. The high level of risk, the damage done to the desert, and the obvious draw to outsiders are not moves that would have been made by someone who had complete control of the situation."
He gave a pause, mulling it over. "I doubt they did everything they wanted to do, anyway. And quite frankly, given everything that's happened, I'm not feeling quite so obligated to try and figure out their mess for them, if that's what they wanted to do by randomly handing out these USBs."
Closing the program for now, Luke stowed away the D-Terminal again. "More importantly, how are you doing? Your spirit forms hurt, or anything?"
