(This is my first attempt at an MPC!)
One unseasonably warm night, Alan was lying in bed next to Levi, as he had gotten into the habit of doing. The two would often chat for quite a while before actually falling asleep, on various topics. At the moment, they were talking about something that had happened under an hour ago: Levi was attempting to get a book off of a shelf which required a stool for even Alan to reach...
"Are you... sure you don't want me to just lift you?" asked Alan, watching from below, dressed in light sleepwear.
"No, I've... I've got this..." replied Levi, struggling to push himself up.
"Suit yourself," conceded Alan, knowing if he fell, he'd be there to catch him.
Somehow, Levi had managed to climb his way up to the top, but wasn't able to maintain his position when actually trying to pull the book out with one hand. He spun around has he fell, landing face-first, mouth open into Alan's waiting arms, or one of them, anyway. "I gotch- OW!" Levi's sharp mouth had grazed Alan's skin, and, while it hurt immensely, Alan didn't care. The scene of a Veemon just hanging mostly by his mouth off of his arm was funny to him. "Okay, don't move, I'll just liiiightly move you off... there!"
Once Levi had been removed, he immediately began to apologize: "I'm so sorry! Are you okay? I-"
"Levi, I'm fine! It's a minor wound, I'll just get some bandages..."
Back in the present, Alan chuckled to himself, and asked: "Hey, Levi?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm not gonna wake up as a Veemon, am I?"
That gave Levi an idea.
"If I told you 'yes,' how would you react?"
"Huh? Uh... I-"
"No, you hesitated!"
"Wait a minute,"
"Nope! I have my answer!"
"Come on, man..." Alan was blushing deeply. "I mean, there are a lot of factors to consider, like, would it be for a day, or forever, or maybe I'd be a were-Veemon, and could turn back and forth whenever I please, like one of those Spirit Users I've heard about-"
"Oh, really?" Levi snickered, "and what if it was permanent?"
"..." Alan unconsciously held his breath as he tried to think of a response. With each passing second, Levi's smile grew wider.
"You're adorable, you know that?"
"M... m-me!?"
"D'ya see anyone else here?" said Levi, moving in to hug Alan. "What made you think you weren't?"
Alan began to stop being tense. "I... I never really show this side of myself to most people... I feel like... like I've got an image to keep up... and... and..."
"And?"
"And... and having a face like yours... would... would give me more confidence to... to be myself."
"Your face is fine, too, you know. If you wanna be cute, we're both cute. Never forget that."
"...Levi?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks... I won't."
Alan's Digivice gave off a faint glow as the two drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Alan barely opened his eyes as he attempted to reach for the glasses and Digivice on the nightstand where he had left them, but his arm came into contact with something large to his left. He opened his eyes to see, not only himself, but a blue arm and clawed hand extending from his point of view. He immediately put together what had happened, and it took every ounce of willpower he had not to scream. Levi was still sleeping, after all. Well, he hoped that was Levi, because if it wasn't, then what happened to Levi? Of course he didn't need his glasses at the time, but Alan figured he should at least retrieve his (Levi's?) Digivice. He carefully let himself off the wrong side of the bed, noting that the drop was a bit longer than it used to be. Next, he made his way around the foot of the bed to the nightstand.
Umm.... it's taller than me; how do I get that Digivice without waking him up?
Alan took pleasure in seeing the world from this point of view. Every mundane task now seemed like a new adventure to be had. With as swift a motion he could muster, he gave himself a boost off the side of his bed to grab the Digivice. This was quite the feat, considering he wasn't used to his new body at all. Unfortunately, rather than grabbing the Digivice, he had managed to knock both the Digivice and the glasses onto the floor. Luckily, neither object was damaged. He picked up the Digivice to look at its display. All it read was the words "Relax. It's only for a day."
That was a relief. Alan had not even begun to consider those fears that the Digivice had proactively soothed. Levi's deduction was correct - he really would have been fine if he had permanently turned into a Veemon, but Levi permanently turning into him? That would be more of a problem. He wouldn't be able to enjoy his new body if it had left Levi with his old one. It was a decent body, but Levi, well, Levi was a Digimon, and Alan envied Digimon.
Alan carefully picked up the glasses. It was time to wake Levi up. As a generosity, Alan put "his" hands over "Levi's" eyes to wake him, he spoke loudly and clearly, to ensure that Levi understood. "Levi, don't look until I'm done talking, but we have switched bodies for the day. Don't ask me how, but the Digivice seems to know something about it. I'm quite convinced the thing is sentient, and I fear its power, but I just wanted you to know that before you open my eyes."
Levi did exactly that.
"Alan."
"Yeah?"
"Your eyes suck."
"Put these on." Alan handed Levi his glasses, and Levi did as instructed.
"These help, but your eyes still suck."
"Agreed. But yours are amazing."
"Heh heh..."
Alan got into position to try and help Levi up if he needed it.
"Are you good? Can you get up?"
"Yeah, thanks." As Levi got up, Alan was messing around with the various appendages his previous form lacked.
"So this is what it feels like to have a tail..."
Levi smiled as he watched Alan enjoy himself. He had always wondered what it felt like to be human, so of course, he was having an interesting experience on his own, but seeing Alan so ecstatic, it was impossible not to also be happy.
He wasn't lying about bringing out his true self, huh...
Levi rubbed his new arm, the bite that he had made himself still sore.
"So, Alan! We've got the whole day to spend like this! What do you want to do?"
"Um... well, I'm not really sure. What... do you want to do?"
Levi teased some suggestions to Alan: "Do you wanna... get in the bag and go somewhere?"
"H... hey..."
"I'm teasing."
"Oh..."
"Do you wanna... go to the Digital World?"
"Um, but I don't know how this body works well enough! I wouldn't be able to protect you from anything!"
"Oh, really? Then do you wanna... try to digivolve?"
The suggestion stopped Alan in his tracks. He began to blush just about as much as a Veemon possibly could as images of ExVeemon and Flamedramon flooded his mind. Levi watched with pride as Alan stared vacantly at the wall, following that last suggestion.
"Well, uh, maybe if I... maybe if I knew this wasn't a one-time thing, I'd really... really want to try it sometime, but, uh... ahem... you know what? I wouldn't mind getting in the bag. Let's go somewhere to eat! And you can hide me from the public, and you can get, like, closure, or something! Right?"
"...You know what, Alan? I think I'd like that very much."
"Oh! Levi!"
"Yeah?"
"Before we go... do you think you... do you think I could...." Alan stared at the ground and twiddled his thumbs.
"It's okay, Alan. What is it?"
"Can I... can I give you a hug?"
"Heh heh… Alan. The deal was that we're both equally cute. You're not allowed to be the cuter one." joked Levi. Alan was still staring at him, expectantly. "...Of course you can."
THE...
"...END."
Levi was sitting atop a high shelf. It had been quite the trouble to get himself up here without any assistance. He had been reading a paper he had found hiding between the pages of one of the thicker books on the shelf. Levi heard the door to the room open, and Alan stepped in, holding a bag of groceries, which mostly consisted of extra snacks for the room.
"Tadai…" Alan began to joke, before seeing Levi sitting atop the high shelf, packet of loose leaf paper in hand. "...ma..." His lip began to tremble.
Oh, no... I wouldn't have guessed he was so ashamed of it. Is he... crying?
Levi immediately began to climb down from the shelf to comfort Alan before he broke down too much.
Alan sunk to the ground, as he felt his legs might give out. "I'm sorry! If you want to think of me as some kinda creep, I don't blame you! I'm so, so sorry! That's just... that's just some stupid thing that just... I just wrote it, and, and I didn't want to throw it away, for... for some reason, so I..."
"Alan!" Levi reached Alan, embracing him as he knew he wanted him to. "It's okay. I loved it."
"H... huh? You're not... just saying that to..."
"I'm not. Everything you wrote in there, if it were to actually happen..." Levi looked Alan in the eyes. "...you wrote down exactly how I would react. So I want you to know that yes, you're cute."
"Cute?"
"Adorable. And Alan?"
"Y... yeah?"
"...I'd like to see you digivolve someday, too."
