Shoutmon sighed as he closed his own modified D-Terminal. He was having a conversation with Cassandra Cross, asking her to search for information on Lia, the Floramon that Shoutmon had known and cared for in his previous life. Things in that conversation took a dark turn when Shoutmon mentioned that... that when the inevitable did come...
...he wanted to be deleted and loaded.
Cas had insisted that Shoutmon tell this to Adrian, and that made him a bit nervous. He knew about Adrian's rough life, with the constant moving and changing schools that his family had gone through. He didn't want to make Adrian upset, especially after they had just got done with a big argument.
Shoutmon stared at Adrian, who was on the bed listening to music through his headphones. Shoutmon just didn't have the heart to tell Adrian anything... he didn't know what to do.
Ever since the discovery that he was a reincarnation of a murderous psychopath, Adrian and Shoutmon went through a lot. First, there was the memories that kept flooding into Shoutmon's brain, memories of nothing but pain and sorrow, and memories of just wanting to kill everyone.
Thoughts of all humans just fading away into dust, being blown away by the wind. Shoutmon tried his damn hardest to push these memories out of his head, but they still kept coming back. And now those thoughts and memories are getting stronger; he knew it was coming soon.
Then there was his past life's accomplices, these three knights: Grademon, Knightmon and Dianamon. They had attacked him and his friends on numerous occasions. Their main goal was to make sure that Shoutmon Digivolved to Mega, turning him into the murderer that he used to be. His friends had suffered greatly because of it; his friend Leith was almost killed, and his Digimon Veemon was mind-controlled to hold him down and hurt him. So far, life for Adrian and Shoutmon was purely about preventing what ultimately couldn't be stopped.
But Adrian didn't give up. He was actively searching for ways or clues that led to a way to stop what was happening to Shoutmon. In the end, they were best friends, and it hurt Adrian to see Shoutmon having to go through this. It would hurt him even more, however, to discover what Shoutmon really wanted.
"Hey Adri, you got a sec?" Shoutmon eventually began to talk to Adrian. The human kid looked up at the red dragon Digimon and pulled off his headphones.
"You feeling okay, Shout?" Adrian asked. "You look upset."
After a brief pause, Shoutmon began to speak again. "I just spoke to Cas. She says she'll have information on Lia by morning."
"Hey, that's great!" Adrian cheers, sitting upright on his bed now. "But that doesn't explain why you look so sad? I thought that's what you wanted."
"Adrian... what would you prefer happened to me if it did happen? If I did digivolve to Mega and become Omni."
"Well, that's not going to happen, because we-"
"BUT WHAT IF IT DID?" Shoutmon's outburst caused Adrian to pause for a second. He... he really didn't know. Shoutmon began to speak up again. "If I do become Omni... I asked Cas to have her Digimon delete me, and load my data."
"Like hell that's going to happen!" Adrian yelled back, standing up from his bed in fury. "You are NOT dying on me, Shoutmon!"
"It's either I survive and MILLIONS of humans die, or I die and they all still get to live their lives! I don't WANT to be Omni, death is a FAR better alternative!"
"But not to me! Shoutmon, you're the reason I don't hate my life right now! You came into my life at one of my darkest points, and you showed me that life IS worth living! I won't have you throw your life away!"
"If I survive, there's a good chance I'll end up killing you, Adrian! Or your family, your friends! I don't want to do that! Can't you see? I... I want to be myself..." It was at this point that Shoutmon began to have tears run down his eyes. "I don't want it to happen... but you and I both know it will."
Adrian didn't know what to say... his friend was going suicidal? He didn't want to believe it... he... he...
Eventually, Adrian just sat back down, his hands covering his face. Shoutmon couldn't see it, but Adrian was crying. He didn't want it to be true...
"But whatever does happen..." Shoutmon continued, sitting on the bed next to Adrian. "My time as your partner has been the best parts of my life. No matter how this all plays... I want you to always remember that."
