100 Acre Wood [Rose Town Job B] [Alan Pantell]
|
Post by Cion on Nov 29, 2018 19:18:19 GMT
Few things were as pure as the fresh air of a farmstead in the morning...Though the fields were covered in a veil of glittering hoarfrost, plants attuned to autumn's cold prospered in spite of the harsh conditions. Walnuts, cobs, chestnuts, celery, beetroot and rutabaga were among the colorful vegetation that graced the acres, promising wholesome and delicious meals and snacks to the young inhabitants of Rosewood. Although they were quite capable in taking care of themselves, the town's council saw it fit to recruit outside help to prepare for winter regardless. To Cion, that was both a pleasure and a duty she gladly accepted in her quest to contribute to commonweal. Calmly sitting on a hay bale next to a barn, the silver fennec watched as a faint fog of chill traversed the solid ground, lingering like the light gray smolders of a candle after being extinguished. The reason why she was not immediately getting to her task reaping the harvest was because she anticipated the arrival of two individuals she considered treasured friends. Despite knowing them for merely a single day, the time she, Alan and Levi the Veemon had spent in blissful togetherness had been unforgettably wonderful. Though a stranger to them, they had opened their hearts to her without expecting anything in return. If it was not for them, there was a chance that the restrained Arniomon would have hesitated to initiate something as unparalleled as her Utopia project called ASCENSION. Fortunately, for the sake of others and herself as well, she had. This meant that jobs such as those today were her leisure activities, but that was a burden the small fox was accepting with a winning smile. She no longer worried about carrying the mantle of heraldry if it gave her dreams and hopes the possibility to become reality. But as always, Cion found herself digressing and lost in her thoughts. Inhaling deeply once, the vulpine sentinel straightened her short, green scarf. No concerns plagued her mind as she observed the rising sun's orange and amber radiance chiming together with the frost's sheen; embosoming this entire town and the nearby forests in pervasive, pleasant beauty. Why any entity sought to denounce this serenity for vitiation was honestly beyond her. This place was proof that her kind did not have to be digital monsters to prosper, but could instead be people living in peaceful unison. Hopefully, her own aspirations served as a shining beacon to open this world's eyes, too. [Words: 415 / 415}

Alan's mouth was drawn open by a great yawn as he and his partner strolled slowly across the fields, beads of moisture forming at the bottom of his blue eyes. Levi was following suit, both of them bundled up for the chilly weather. Still, perhaps they were overdressed; the crisp morning air hadn't reached them well enough to break them out of this stupor.
"Just like me, huh?" said Alan, through another yawn. "Volunteer for physical labor, stay up way too late the night before."
"Now, now, don't put this all on yourself," responded Levi, repeating the yawn. "You know I could have made you fall right asleep at any time if I chose to, but I didn't."
"Either way, we have to wake up, or else this won't be very fun."
"Agreed."
On the count of three, they both pulled their hoods and scarves off of their heads, keeping them where they could be reapplied, then each took a sharp breath.
"Aah!" Alan clapped his hands together. "That's better! Who's ready to do some farming?"
"We are, I think!"
"That's the spirit! Who's ready to find Cion?"
"We're so ready to find Cion that she's right over there!" The Veemon pointed over to a silver fox with a green scarf, sitting on a bale of hay. They ran over to her, waving.
"Hey there, Cion! Good to see you again! How've you been doing?"

Noticing that she once again had been utterly lost in her thoughts, it was the voice of a familiar and treasured human that thankfully forced her out of them. Gasping quietly, Cion's aureate eyes widened and large ears peaked as she focus returned to the reality at hand. Tilting her head to face the individual who had contacted her, she smiled at him and his affectionate partner. Alan and Levi - a duo unlike few she had encountered throughout her existence. To her, they were among the most genuine people she ever had the delight and honor to meet. They were obviously endearing kids... and they were not afraid to show that.
Waving back at them, the restrained Arniomon gracefully pushed herself up on the hay bale as to be on the same eye level as the charming lad. It was at times bothersome to be the smallest digimon around, especially when considering her power, hence she preferred to slightly tower above the Veemon in this instance. Chuckling and straightening her green scarf, the small fennec courteously bowed to them, her right paw on her chest while the other was leaning against the rear of her hip.
As almost always, something the digidestined and his comrade knew, she enjoyed behaving like a fine lady. Somebody had to do it in this world of carination after all. Besides, with ASCENSION as her magnum opus to be, she felt gladly committed to be as sophisticated as possible; of course without becoming unpleasant to be with. Fortunately, she had ceased worrying about every step and how it could be interpreted since her newfound devotion - for which her present friends were partially responsible.
"Good morning, Alan, Levi. The pleasure is all mine. I've been excellent; thank you for asking. I take it life has treated you well, too?" Cion stated and asked calmly as she assumed a proper, relaxed stance. It had been some time since they lovely night together - a truly fond memory. Amusingly so her comrades looked as sleepy as they did back then. Hopefully a bit of manual labor in the cold would wake them up.

Alan returned the gesture with a full, ninety-degree bow of his own. At the bottom of his bow, he noticed Levi doing a small curtsy. He looked at Levi, who gave him a sly smile back. There was nothing inherently wrong with a curtsy, Alan just happened to know Levi was doing it as a joke. The boy turned back to Cion.
"That's excellent to hear! We've been wonderful ourselves; nothing too eventful. We've been taking it nice and easy this whole time! We've been exploring, meeting new people, being slightly more prepared for harsher weather conditions than we used to be, I can tell you. We still haven't run into any conflict, but we're not banking on it. As a matter of fact, we even found Levi here a mentor to train him in combat every now and again!"
"His name's Royland- a Spadamon. Really nice, just a little bit haughty, has a partner named Kazuya, if you know either of them. Hee hee, he started training me with his fists, but I got him to draw his sword by the end of our first spar! 'Course, he then proceeded to knock my legs out from under me with it, but still, I think it was impressive!"

As to be expected, Cion was utterly delighted by the courteous gesture that Alan did to greet her properly. For a boy of his young age, he certainly knew how to carry himself with cultivated manners - an attribute she had seldom seen in humans and especially not digimons. Presenting him with a big grin, Levi's coltish curtsy was greatly appreciated as well. She understood the blue dragon's playfulness, hence she regarded his act of friendship from the best possible light. After all, they were treasured friends to her and she was hardly judgmental when it came to others not adapting to her code of conduct.
Still charmed by the nice touch, the silver fennec calmly folded her arms as her large ears peaked to witness every word the blond lad uttered. Of course she was happy to learn that the duo had fared well lately, even if nothing special had occurred. Personally preferring tranquil serenity herself, that was probably the best news she could have hoped for. "Splendid." She commented with a rapt smile, always cheery upon learning that her companions lived contentedly. Such a mindset was rare enough, but it was a welcomed balm to her keen soul as well.
Intrigued to hear of this mentor, the restrained Arniomon was briefly astounded by the small size of the often thought ginormous digital world. Sir Royland had taken the Veemon as his apprentice? Made sense... and it was a favorable event to everyone. Strange that coincidences had a tendency to be so genial. "I'm comrades with them. In fact they are my most faithful supporters for my organization; the ASCENSION project. Roy even went as far as to swear an oath of allegiance to me..." She explained, chuckling quietly as she rolled her aureate eyes in amusement. "...Never asked for it. Nonetheless, a haughty, noble knight indeed..."
Sighing to regain composure, Cion quickly scratched the back of her head, glad to see her pals full of physical and mental vigor. Hopefully this vim could be utilized for the old-fashioned, handicraft that was late autumnal harvest.

"Uh... wow."
The human and dragon had assumed there was a chance that Cion was familiar with them, but they never would have guessed that Kazuya, Royland, and Cion had such a close working relationship. Swearing an oath of allegiance to someone without being asked to? Indeed, that certainly sounded like the Spadamon that had been training them.
"Would you mind telling us a little about this 'ASCENSION' project, or do you think now isn't a good time?" asked Alan. "I mean, we could always ask Roy about it later, but I figure it's better to hear straight from the leader!"
Meanwhile, Levi was examining the barns, fields, and the overall environment surrounding the group of friends. He took note of all the digimon and humans happily working away, which is to say, working away with varying levels of happiness, in the fields. He turned back around to Cion.
"By the way," he said, dusting the ground with his foot in minor embarrassment, "What are we supposed to... um... do, exactly?"

Honestly, Cion had to chuckle due to Alan's rather meek comment to her previous explanations. It was amusingly adorable to know that the fact that Sir Royland was loyal and faithful to her was so astounding to him. Sure - it was quite the coincidence and a seldom heard news, but it was clear that the boy had likely never before encountered fealty outside of entertainment media; the obvious exception being his destined partner. Regardless, she smiled, nodded and listened to what else the fine lad had to tell her to procrastinate a little.
"Of course! I gladly detail you everything... once we get to work." The silver fennec playfully baited her two friends, actually looking forward to working together with them. It was rare enough that she was in the presence of those she treasured, hence doing an activity as a team was certainly a pleasant idea to her. Realizing that Levi looked around curiously, it seemed that the duo had no clue what they were supposed to do. Strange... the restrained Arniomon had thought that her message containing the words 'manual labor' had sufficed to give them understanding. However, another explication did not hurt.
Pointing at nearby canvas sacks and hoes, their noble if simple duty was clear. "We are going to help with the harvest so Rosewood does not rely on external resources for its first winter." She stated calmly yet with visible excitement in her eyes and twitchy paws. Naturally their assignment was nothing special nor heroic, but it served a wonderful purpose. Taking care of others, especially the young and promising, filled her core and soul with pure bliss. This was one of the reasons she had invited both youths here - in belief that, considering their amicability, they were of a similar opinion.

Alan made a sort of breathy, quiet cough, a sort of voiceless laughter, when pointed to the tools. He walked over and took up a hoe, while Levi grabbed a canvas sack. "With all due respect, we were aware of that much. We 'spoiled, rotten kids' just haven't done much community service in our lifetimes. We were wondering if there were any specifics you would like to expound to us. Sure, I can watch the others and see how they do it, but I assume it would hardly be wrong of me to be particularly concerned about procedure when handling other people's food. So, to reiterate my understanding of the task: we dig up crops with this..." Alan pointed the hoe at the ground, holding it with two arms underhand and made scraping motions towards him. "...and we pick 'em up and put 'em in here..." Levi held the sack open with two hands and waved it around, to get the air to open it as wide as possible. "...and hand them off for other necessary forms of preparation, like, say, cleaning. If our understanding is correct, then gee, helping people sure is a lot easier once you're already out of bed!" Levi put both of his hands behind his head and smiled, letting the sack hang behind him from one of those hands.

Cion rolled her aureate eyes in amusement to the young lads' uncertainty and inquisitiveness. It appeared that they wished to be absolutely sure of every conceivable detail as to make no mistakes. Though striving for self-improvement and optimization was admirable in her point of view, something as simple as reaping an autumnal harvest did not require extensive preparations. All it took were a couple of people, basic tools and some brawn. Certainly everyone was capable of this deed, especially such vigorous boys who obviously desired to contribute to commonweal; otherwise they would not have agreed to come.
"Nope. Everything's as easy as it seems." The silver fennec stated with a rapt smile while allowing the chaps to find out for themselves how to properly utilize the items at hand. Thankfully and as she had expected, it barely needed a few seconds for them to figure out the gist of things. Chuckling, the restrained Arniomon leapt down from the hay bale and equipped a hoe of her own. Nodding confidently to the human and Veemon, she gladly led the way to the spot on the acre they were assigned to. "Definitely easier once outside the bed." She coltishly acceded Levi's tongue-in-cheek argument.

Alan and Levi proceeded to their designated area and got to a corner from which to work their way over. Alan declared, in his best deep, faux-threatening voice, "All this has been sewn; so shall it be reaped," and hoeing away, humming part of a jazz tune he remembered, as Levi followed closely behind, bagging the soil's yield. Everything was going faster this way, since Alan didn't have to stop to lean down and pick up the crops, nor did he have to carry the bag with him. After getting into a good rhythm of doing this, he began to speak up to Cion.
"So," he huffed, "you were going to tell us about ASCENSION?"
"Hold up, Alan, rewind; you missed one!"
"Whoops."
The boy meekly trotted back to where Levi was pointing. "My bad. Gotta slow down. We've got plenty of time, after all. I just didn't want to risk getting distracted for too long; I've always had an issue with doing that."

Calmly playing along with Alan's tongue-in-cheek declaration, Cion began to enjoy herself with the strenuous manual labor that was reaping. Thankfully, the air was fresh and cold as to counteract the body heat she produced, leaving her without freezing sweat and a relaxed breathing, Compared to her other, regular exploits this task was a mere breeze, but she was still glad to have friends such as the young digidestined and his sportive partner by her side. It was always good to know that she was not the only one who sought to improve the digital world a single step at a time.
Quietly listening to the rhythmic humming, the silver fennec's large ears eventually peaked upon hearing the boy's repeated question. Waiting for the duo to undo their little mistake, she felt obliged to answer it as she had promised. Truth be told she was happy to spread the news that was her organization. Hence she carried herself with joy and pride as she started, hoping to give the two lads a concise overview of what she, Sir Royland and the others were up to in this realm of constant strife and stagnation.
"We are building a nation - an Utopia inspired by Rosewood where every digimon and human is welcome if they seek an existence of peace and prosperity. For the moment, while the nearby construction site is getting worked on, ASCENSION's team members including me do missions to earn additional funds and to increase our positive reputation and publicity. The more people are aware of us the quicker our paradise to-be will become a reality." Cion gladly explicated with the wish to intrigue her current companions.

Alan and Levi took care to slow their pace so that they could still work while eagerly listening to what Cion had to say to them about her project.
The boy looked thoughtful as he slowly worked away at his task, which, thankfully, was not too mentally-demanding.
"Hmm... a paradise, you say?"
Alan was never quite sure how he felt about the idea of a utopia. Peace and prosperity were wonderful things, but if such a paradise were to be built, he wasn't sure how much he'd like to live in one. Regardless, he agreed that any actions that worked towards such a goal were noble ones. Though he wouldn't do much more than pay visits to the paradise, working towards building one sounded like a wonderful use of time, so once Cion finished her brief explanation, he responded,
"Well, it sounds like you've devoted yourselves to a wonderful cause. I may not be a member of your organization, but do let me know how I can help you out. We'll have to ask Royland and Kazuya about it next time we see them. By the way, are you at liberty to disclose the names of the other members of ASCENSION? Perhaps we might surprise you with another coincidence. Hm hm hm."

Cion nodded to reaffirm her stated points as a response to Alan's rhetoric question. Naturally she understood that her ambitions could easily be perceived as a pipe dream. Truth be told she thought the same for a long time until she found support in fine people such as Kazuya, Sir Royland and the other allies she had under the uniting banner of ASCENSION. With someone to show initiative, there were plenty of individuals who gladly contributed to an ideal world; be it for entirely selfless reasons or not. If the sacrifice she had to make was the typical accusations an entrepreneur received, then so be it.
Thankfully and expectedly, the blond lad was not a person who ridiculed the silver fennec for her sweven and devotion to them. Smiling raptly, she visibly appreciated the indirect help she was offered, reassuring her magnum opus at hand. "Thank you. And if you wish to assist us without joining, simply spread positive news about us. Or become a future citizen of Quantum." She suggested kindly, giving her friends the idea that aiding her was as simple as talking or moving houses.
As for the next question posed, the restrained Arniomon was quite amused by the young boy's restraint. Rolling her aureate eyes in amusement, she shook her head to assure that secrecy was counterproductive to their goals. "You might, tihi. Our ranks are made of a man called Leith and his two partners, Darian and Gabe, and miss Chiaki."

Alan smiled, purely at the fact that there was something he could do to help. "Quantum, huh? Well, I'll be sure to spread the word around in any way I can. I look forward to seeing what we can all accomplish together. Hm. That wording sounded a bit too stock for my tastes, but that's just me being vain. In any case, I want to help people out, so although I know doin so wasn't really an issue to begin with, thanks for letting us help."
The young man laughed after Cion gave him the names. He almost wanted to accuse the silver fennec of joking when she listed off the members of her organization, but had she been joking, she wouldn't have known which names to use.
"Cion. When we first spoke, I mentioned I was in a band, right? It's called Haunted Threnody, and Leith, Veemon, Shoutmon, and Chiaki are my bandmates. That's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, I just happen to know eighty percent of your organization without knowing it exists. I... don't know how to react to this. Like, I was expecting you to have a list like that as a joke, but then it actually happened, and I... I think it'll be pretty easy to assist indirectly with this many connections."

As the trio continued their strenuous yet fulfilling work, it was obvious that they lost themselves in their banter. Thankfully, this was no harm to their task nor state of mind as time simply past them by with extreme speed, making them notice their exhaustion less and assuring that they did not slow down from boredom. Teamwork and fun were two essential aspects of great productivity, despite most employers and employees often forgetting or being ignorant to this fact. However, they were fortunate enough to savor their day regardless of the job at hand.
"I personally like the wording, and I humbly thank you for your contribution." Cion expressed her gratitude with absolute sincerity and kindness in her ladylike voice. ASCENSION was obviously her magnum opus - and the only thing left in her existence she clung to unhesitatingly. She wished for the digital realm nothing else than to tap into its full potential that is currently enshrouded under a thick veil of narcissism, discord and aimlessness. With friends, companions and allies such as those she had been blessed with, the hope lingered that her dream for a perfect, eternal Utopia was feasible no matter the efforts and ages required.
As for a less zealous topic, Alan's statement was quite baffling and amusing at once. The coincidences were truly piling up this early morning, were they not? Geesh... talking about a small world. "I... ääh..." The silver fennec stammered briefly, at a loss of words from sheer amazement. "I'd... definitely like to hear your band's performance." She tried to deviate from the bafflement with a chuckle. This had gotten uncanny, making her wonder if the forces of fate were more sentient than she desired to believe. This was not normal, but... also not bad. No, it was forthcoming to her aspirations.
What wonders lingered these days.
