"Nowhere." The voice said with a soft tone. Desmond quickly looked around him again and this time, there was a Jijimon a few meters next to him. "Huh? What do you mean nowhere?" The Jijimon laughed. "You got deleted." That word made the blond man tilt his head. "I am... Dead?" The elderly Digimon nodded. "Yes, we can say that. But Digimon doesn't really die, they just get reborn into a Digi-egg." Desmond didn't like his words. He did say Digimon but how about humans? Do they get reborn as well? "Erm... What is going to happen to us exactly?" Another laughter. "Well, DemiMeramon will become a Digi-egg and forget everything." And he paused and cleared his voice. "As for you... Well, you will be here, forever." Both Demi and Desmond looked at each other. "Wait, what?" The Jijimon sighed. "See, we Digimon are made of Data. You are not." He paused once more making the Frenchman quite uneasy. "So you will stay here."
"So it will reset Demi?" The fireball didn't like the sound of his tamer's voice. "I will forget everything?" It was clear that none of them wanted that to happen. "What if I don't want to reborn? Can I stay here with Desmond?" The Jijimon didn't talk right away. The awkward silence made them quite uncomfortable. "Can I?" Another moment of silence. "Well. You can, yes." Desmond was about to say something but his partner was quicker. "Then I want to stay here. With Desmond." He looked at the human with a smile but saw that he wasn't smiling back at him. "Demi..." The sadness in his voice made the Digimon worry. "Demi, you need to go..." The fireball was confused. "You can be alive again. You don't need to be stuck here with me." There were tears forming around Demi's big blue eyes. "But..." Desmond shook his head and place a hand on him. "It's okay. You will find new people to be with. You won't even remember me. It won't hurt you."
"But I want to remember you." To be fair, Desmond did too but he knew that it was the right thing to do, even if it wasn't the easier of choice, for neither of them. "Don't worry. I'm sure that I will find a way to reach you. I will have forever to do that." It was a lie, he had no idea what was going to happen next. He just wanted his partner to go back and live another life and not be stuck here forever. "I'll come back to you, I promise." The DemiMeramon was now crying. The blond tamer tried not to cry as well but tears fell down his face. "Please, you will get bored here if you stay. And you need to keep an eye on Sam and Hawk." He hoped that that would be a good enough reason, even if he would most likely forget them as well. Demi looked up at the tamer and tried to wipe tears away. "You will come back?" Desmond tried to wipe his tears as well. "Yes, I will." The fireball went forward and hugged him while sobbing. "You promise?"
"Yes, I promise you. I will do anything to get back to you. You just need to be patient, okay?" Desmond held his best friend in his arms for a few seconds before letting go. "Ahem." They both looked at the other Digimon which they completely forgot about. "Well. I can return you to the real world." Desmond and Demi held on their breath and waited for whatever Jijimon would have to say next. "But, if I do return you, then Demi will not be reborn." So whatever they do, one of them would have to stay here. "But, will I forget everything?" This time, the elder Digimon did not answer right away. "That I do not know."
"Let Demi..." The child Digimon quickly jumped in front of his tamer. "Desmond, you can go." The human shook his head, tears falling down once more. "I don't want you to stay here forever... All alone." A smile drew on the face of the DemiMeramon. "But I will remember you." They both looked at each other for a second. "I don't want to forget you. You might remember something. Maybe you will remember me?" Desmond shook his head again. "Demi..." HIs tiny hand touched the tamer's face. "It's okay. I will come back to you." Hearing those same words he said to him made him realized how both of them wanted the other to remember. "And you can see Sam and Hawk! They will remember you too!" A hint of joy could be heard in his voice. That's was all they had right now. A single hint of joy.
"Please, Demi..." The Digimon shook his head and held his tamer's face with both hands. "You need to go, Sam will miss you if you stay here." As true as these words were, it was so hard for him to just let go of his very best friend. "You will come back?" Desmond's voice was very shaky. "Yes, I promise." And both of them began crying again. The Jijimon would let them cry together for a bit longer before talking. "Desmond, you will go back to your world?" A heavy sigh came out of the tamer and he hugged his partner for what could be the very last time. "Yes, just give me a minute." He went digging into his pockets and took out his Digivice. "Will that still be on me when I... return?"
The Jijimon shook his head slowly. "That I do not know." Nothing was clear, they were just trying to gain time. Desmond took a deep breath and took out a sharpie pen. "Here, draw me something that will make me remind of you." And he handed the pen to his partner who looked at it for a second. He then took the human's Digivice and drew a little sun with a smile on it on the back side of it. "You can find me if you follow it!" They both knew that it was a lie but they were trying their very best to stay strong. "Are you ready?" The Jijimon asked with a clear voice, one without any emotions. Desmond wiped his tears away and Demi did the same. "Please don't forget about me." The tamer nodded and placed the Digivice back into his pocket. "Remember."
Desmond stood up and walked toward the elder Digimon. "Come, let me guide you back home." The tamer barely had time to turn around and wave goodbye at his partner for maybe the very last time. The whiteness of the room faded into complete darkness and then. Desmond was back into his small home in the real world. His mind was blurry. What just happened? He wasn't so sure, did anything happen at all? He looked around. Everything was normal. And then he looked at his hand and saw a strange device in it. He studied the device for a second and then flipped it backward.
A sun. With a smile. His eyes widened. "I remember..." Tears fell down his face once more, but this time, he was alone. "Oh, Demi..." And he cried for a bit less than an hour before hearing something. A single beep. Then another one. Desmond looked at the Digivice, there was an orange dot on the screen. Was it Demi? He began laughing between tears. "Demi, don't forget about me. I'm coming."
"I promise."
