Lost on the Outskirts [Cassandra]

"Well my name is on the lease, but I certainly won't turn down welcome guests." The Doctor quipped with a soft chuckle seeming far from upset at the changes wrought to her office. If anything she seemed pleased even brightening up at the sight of her old patient.
"I'm afraid I'm just passing through on business Gazi. I was hoping to hitch a ride with one of your trade runs to Tenebrous. Unless of course I've arrived in time to deal with an emergency?" Cassandra explained glancing towards Jegan in inquiry.
"None of late Doctor. It has been rather quiet here beyond the usual scrapes and bruises." Jegan assured her as the little Merc seemed to brighten up at the Doctor's obvious approval.
"That's good to hear. Is my room upstairs still intact?" Cas questioned even as the little Medicmon nodded his head.
"Just as you left it Ma'am." He assured her as the Doctor gave him a tired smile.
"Thank you Jegan. Gazi I'd like to introduce you to Denryu my," Cas paused unsure exactly of the nature of her and the General's relationship. She supposed they were equals now. Equal in destitution, equal in trying to survive.
"My Partner." She added voice soft, but undettered as she glanced towards the General himself unsure what he would think of the matter, but firm in her declaration.

"Well, no news is good news on our end," the Rookie remarked with a shrug, Gazi's ear twitching at Cassandra's next point. She wanted in on one of the trade runs? "You sure? You two could make it to the river or even the station without drawing attention to yourselves. Really, I'd be the one slowing you down!"
That part seemed true enough. At hearing the Gazimon and the Medicmon, however, Angel finally decided that enough was enough. The Renamon once more appeared, Gazi taking a step back as the fox stretched out her arms. "Freaking finally..."
"Just make sure you stay inside." The General took this more-or-less in stride - both that, and Cassandra's less-than-casual way of saying that Denryu was her partner. Denryu gave just a small look in Gazi's direction, the digimon himself curiously tilting his head. "If you say so..."
"As it is, we're just passing through. Doctor, you mentioned something about looking over these bandages?" The General didn't seem overly concerned in his tone, more of a 'let's get it over' with tone in his voice - enough for Gazi to scratch the back of his head, and mutter.
"Some partner, there..."

"Well you weren't available full time Gazi and I doubt that Gatomon of yours would have liked me stealing you away." Cas teased lightly, "Though truthfully I've treated almost two hundred patients in under a forty eight hour period. I do not mind waiting. Honestly I welcome the rest." The Doctor explained motioning the General towards the stairs.
"Though it is good to see you Gazi. I'll see you again after I've seen to my partners injuries and gotten a little rest." She assured him with a smile heedless of his reservations in regards to the General before moving to follow the man up. The upstairs was much like the downstairs with nearly every inch covered with cots other then the kitchen where Cassandra saw her crock pots were being put to good use. Striding over to the door to the left of the kitchen Cassandra pulled out her keys and unlocked said door ushering Denryu and Angel inside. Revealing a medium sized bedroom with a queen bed, the walls of the room lined with bookcases stacked high with books. A small door to the side revealed a full bath where the Doctor strode to scrub at her hands quietly the water running pink despite the spotless appearance of her holosuit.
"Grab a seat on the edge of the tub General and let's see what we're dealing with here." Cas murmured turning to smooth the hair out of Denryu's face as he would take a seat. Tucking it behind his ear as she carefully removed the bandage.

"Heh..." Still on that Gatomon, eh? Gazi simply tucked that thought away in the back, giving a nod of thanks as Denryu and Cassandra slipped off upstairs. "If you need anything, just ask. We owe you enough, after all!"
That smile was returned, and it didn't take long for that trio to make their way upstairs - in-tact, even though the fridge and the kitchen were in a constant state of disarray. Angel looked over the crinkled sheets with some interest, whereas Denryu simply followed straight behind Cassandra, a nod given at the doctor's instructions.
"... Tch." It took a moment, but after taking a seat, he'd pull away both his jacket and his undershirt - revealing the damage done to his right side. There were a number of bandages strewn over his right arm, and even a few directly in his side, the former ones still faintly pink - similar, yet larger, then the simple bandage done to his cheek. "Short-range explosion caused by an Angemon's arrow. Angel helped dress the wounds after removing the worst of the shrapnel."
"Looks better than it did, though."
"Anyway," the general cut back in, "Just don't go around breaking my whole arm to fix this one, doc."

Cassandra swore long and low vitriol and concern dripping from every word as she leveled a glare upon Denryu unsure if she wanted to hug or strangle the man. "No wonder you were antsy." Cas murmured with a worried scowl throat tight at the sight of the bloodstained bandages.
"Angel run hot water in the sink. Denryu get in the tub. I'm going to hook you to an IV and next time General while I do adore bantering with you maybe lead off with your list of injuries." The Doctor scolded Cas's voice tight with worry, but her hands remained steady as she helped Denryu into the tub and threaded an IV into his left arm before grabbing a saline bag from her infini-store. Hooking the bag over the shower head ensuring there was plenty of room in the line the Doctor measured out a dose of morphine only pausing to ensure the General wasn't allergic before dosing him.
"Unless..." Cassandra paused trailing off as a thought occurred to her. "You were afraid I wouldn't wish to remain allied to an injured partner?" The Doctor mused even as she carefully peeled back the bandages on his side. More concerned at the moment with the potentially deadly torso wounds then the man's arm. Though if he was able to move it at all then Cas had confidence Angel had splinted it well. Arm bones, so long as they weren't shattered, being easier than hands.

"Its nothing like that." The General gave a slow wince, feeling that bandage peeled back as Angel ran hot water in the sink. It was the Renamon that provided better detail:
"Long story short, we didn't think it was necessary at the time. Conjured weapons such as that don't maintain their form indefinitely. It was more a matter of observing the wound and treating it as the arrow itself dissipated. Risky, yes..."
But what choice did he have on that side, especially with Cassandra caught up in her own mess? True to Angel's words, however, Cassandra would not find the conjured, glowing head of an Angemon's arrow within, or even any fragment of splintered wood within. What she would see, however, was the internal damage wrought by the said weapon.
"I wasn't at a point where I could stop moving. Things would have been much worse than they were if I just broke down right there." He gave an angry 'tsk', turning his head away from Cassandra.

"Good. You never struck me as the sort, but pressure and panic can change the most stalwart of men." Cassandra murmured eyeing the damage to Denryu's side with thinning lips and a solemn gaze.
"You did well Angel. The wound looks clean of shrapnel, but we'll need to wipe it down and disinfect it. There are towels beneath the sink. Soak one in the hot water and pass it to me when you're done." The Doctor instructed before digging out her disinfectant spray and a clean rag offering the rag to the General himself.
"Bite down on this. I'm going to numb you topically as well, but it may not kick in all the way in time for the spray." She explained, setting the spray aside as she pricked his side with a needle of topic pain killer before carefully and gently cleaning the wound with the wet warm towel when passed to her.
"It looks like it missed perforating your intestines, but your muscles are torn up badly and even with Jegan speeding up your healing after I'm done I'm afraid this is going to scar." Cas warned him, voice gentle.

"Yeah, I got it..."
To Angel, this seemed like duplicating work, but she knew better than to raise these thoughts in front of Cassandra. Through his several years in the Digital World, this was hardly the first time that Denryu had some sort of injury, and in this case, it could have been far worse.
"Hm." Taking the rag in hand, the general gave a sigh: "I appreciate your help on this, but I'm not at a place where I can let something like this slow me down for too long. Jegan's healing should be more effective in the Digital World, right?" After all, there was a difference between working with data than with entities of flesh and blood. He'd grit his teeth at the feeling of that needle, and bite at that rag as the towel was pressed in.
"Careful with this one, doc," Angel sighed. "He's not one to like too much down time." Especially now - with five partners to find in the Digital World, he couldn't spend even a full day up here in the 'real' one!

"Jegan's healing works just as well here as it does in the digital world, but all he can truthfully do is speed up your natural healing." Cas explained resisting the urge to cast her eyes skyward in silent request for patience in regards to the stubborn General. Despite her worried exasperation she was gentle in cleaning the caked blood from the wound and spraying it down heavily with the disinfectant once she was certain the area was numb. Allowing her a better view of the injury and the relatively neat stitches as she checked for any redness or signs of infection.
"That and just because it looks like the arrow missed perforating your intestines doesn't mean they might not be damaged. Not to mention I haven't even taken a look at your arm yet. You're staying put at least for the night so I can monitor your vitals after I get Jegan to go over you." The Doctor added as she half turned to glance towards Angel.
"What has he eaten in the last forty-eight hours since the injury if anything?" Cas questioned as she dug into her kit for one of the adhesive water resistant medical pads before carefully sticking it over Denryu's stitches and wrapping it in place with clean bandages. Then standing to rinse her hands clean in the sink once more Cas moved onto the General's arm.
"If you won't stay put the night you need to at minimum wait for one of Gazi's trade runs. He has a route that cuts through the location of my newest safe house and it'd be wise to avoid using our own portals on the off chance they can be traced. Luminas is unlikely to chase us here into the human world, but the Digital world...we're fair game." The Doctor explained with a soft tired sigh. "I don't want you to rush, us miss something, and you end up dead Denryu."

"Anything helps."
Denryu slipped in those two words, biting back on that towel only as Cassandra would approach the wound. There was a true sense of urgency in the General's voice, one that worked quite contrary to Cassandra's advice. To the General, there truly wasn't any time left over for this - but, he would not speak out against the doctor's advice.
The wounds themselves, thankfully, did not show signs of infection. Even the stitching seemed relatively clean, if a bit more tight than necessary in a spot or two. Cassandra had Angel field the next question:
"He hasn't broken routine, past missing dinner the day of the attack - same as the rest of us." It seemed Denryu wasn't being reckless in that aspect of his care, at least. On the arm, the cuts were longer - but, again, thankfully devoid of any major or problematic redness. It did help that there were fewer ailments that existed in the Digital World that would impact a human!
"... So we'd head off by foot." Denryu gave a slow nod, at that explanation. "Its still weird to hear that there's a 'stable gate' in Japan. Definitely not the case in Manchester..."

"Any stomach pains? Throwing up blood?" Cas questioned though given the fact Angel didn't seem overly alarmed she'd take the answer to such questions as a 'no' unless told otherwise.
"We'll need to keep an eye on your intake and keep to light foods for a day or so to be safe. The morphine should be kicking in here soon and helping with the pain." The Doctor explained as she carefully repeated the motions on Denryu's arm that she had on his side. Cleaning and disinfecting the stitches, checking gently for any breaks, then applying clean pads and bandages before moving onto his face.
"I wouldn't call that death trap of a portal stable by any leaps of the imagination. The Shibuya river is random in where it spits you out in the Digital world. You're as likely if not more so to end up in a bad situation then a good one taking that route." Cas warned with a soft shudder remembering her own unfortunate encounter with the river.
"The train station is stable, but it lets out in Terminus and given what's happened...well that place will be absolutely crawling with guards." Cassandra advised as she carefully removed the stained bandage from Denryu's cheek checking over the stitched up gash that marred the pale flesh of his face with a soft click of her tongue. The injury though gave her pause.
"If you truly cannot wait I do know of another Tamer who lurks around here that can open a portal and owes me a favor." She spoke broaching the topic cautiously as she was not entirely certain how Cassius would react to her demands, but seeing as she'd put the thief back together not once, not twice, but three times now she figures he can take his wariness of her and shove it.

Cassandra's question was met with a shake of the head by the Renamon. In fact, Denryu had been remarkably lucky: if the arrow had hit any other way, his leg could have been littered with splinters from the base itself - or the attack could have sunk directly into his side.
As it was now, Denryu simply had to listen to Cassandra's medical advice. Keep the diet simple, pay attention to the painkillers. He offered his relaxed arm for observation, the same process soon followed for the single cut on his cheek. "Shibuya River is that bad?" He seemed interested in what story there was to go with that, but not so much as to break up the flow. Soon, his face would be bandaged, and Denryu took brief stock of how his body felt. Unsurprisingly, his right side felt somewhat numb by the topical anesthetic and medicine, but there wouldn't be any injury that would last too long - save for perhaps his side.
"..."
"Staying overnight is fine." Angel answered the concerned Cassandra, potentially overruling Denryu's own thoughts on the matter. The General, after a moment, gave a nod in agreement with the Renamon. "Sorry. Considering the situation, I definitely want to get moving sooner rather than later. But I'll at least let it rest overnight."
"Hm." Angel returned a nod towards her tamer, then looked towards Cassandra. "That will be fine, right?"

"The river isn't an actual river, but a giant disgusting trash heap that drags you under when you fall into it until you think you might suffocate and then it dumps you out into the digital world. Sometimes underwater, sometimes midair. The location is entirely random save for the fact it does always dump you out in the Digital world. The filth and muck stays on your clothes though making clean-up a pain." The Doctor explained briefly relaying what she knew of the portal itself both from others accounts and her own unfortunate experiences. Though as Angel made the call for them to stay the night for her General Cassandra slowly began to relax. The fact that Denryu was unlikely to push the matter of leaving before she could be certain there were no lingering side-effects greatly settling the Doctor's frazzled nerves as slowly the tension began to drain out of the woman's shoulders.
"You're welcome to stay here. I'll need to change the sheets, but Denryu can take the bed and I'll haul out a few of the extra cots for you and me Angel. Cloak's keeping things under control at the Safe House right now, but we should see Dagger tomorrow. He's still sleeping off the worst of the whole ordeal in the D-pet right now." Cas assured them as she finished tending to Denryu's cheek and stood to clean her hands once more before tapping her D-terminal.
"Jegan when you have a moment would you come upstairs? I need you to go over the General's injuries and speed them along." The Doctor requested as the little Medicmon's face appeared on the screen.
"I'll be up in just a moment Ma'am!" He quipped garnering a smile from Cas before she nodded and shut down the line.
"Angel if you would help Denryu to his feet. I think I have a pair of sweatpants around that should fit him if you can help him change while I change the sheets." Cas spoke darting out the bathroom door briefly and into the bedroom as she dug through a small closet to one side of the bathroom. Returning a moment with a pair of clean grey mens sweatpants.
If asked about them she'd merely shrug and mention that "A surprisingly large amount of my former human patients showed up without pants. You get used to keeping extra on hand." Before closing the bathroom door and leaving Angel and Denryu to her work while she set about changing the bed.

"Well, for stable tears between dimensions, that's still quite an impressive gate. Comparatively, anyway." At least one could survive a trip through the Shibuya 'River' portal, for one. But the topic rapidly shifted away from that, to something far more pressing:
A place to stay.
As Cassandra explained it, Denryu was only half-listening. There was just something about it that felt... off? No, more depressing than off. There he was, a Xros General on top of the world with his own base, laboratory, database, and well-thought-out security measures. Paradise was a base designed to last for years, but in a mere afternoon, the General was left with nothing.
Thankfully, Angel was there to listen to Cassandra's words - things that she would be able to relay to Denryu, easily enough. "If you can't squeeze me in, that's fine. I can sleep in the Xros Loader - or even on the foot of the bed, if pressed." She wasn't picky. As Cassandra slipped out of the room for the second time, Angel carrying a pair of pants, of all things, over her left arm, she'd finally turn to face Denryu.
"... Is this really alright, sir?"
"What choice do we have?" Denryu's tone, though flat, held an unusual downtrodden sense. He didn't offer any other words, the Renamon giving a frustrated 'tch' through her teeth as she helped him up: "General, right now, you're a far cry from the General that I would follow to the ends of the earth. Yes, we're hurt. All we can do is pull off Taomon. But just because you've dropped a few cards, you seem like you've just completely left the table."
Denryu remained silent. And Angel's tone picked up a small, harsh edge.
"Damn it, listen to me. Its easy to lead from the front. But right now, we need that head of yours more than ever. General," Angel sighed, shaking her head, before leveling her eyes right with his:
"Get your head back into the game."
With that, the Renamon would pull the door open, to help Cassandra with the cots, and the sheets. As for Denryu? Well, it took a minute longer. Silently considering the Renamon's words, he simply looked down at the Xros Loader, resting his right hand atop the device.
"And now I'm being chewed out by her..."

"God damnit Cassius~" Cassandra muttered low under her breath where Angel would find the Doctor stripping the slightly wrinkled sheets off the bed as she tossed them aside in favor of a set of clean ones she had set on the bedside table. "If the damn thief is going to break in and crash here the least he could do is change the bed every so often." The Doctor mumbled in a huff only pausing as she began working on putting the clean sheets on to blink up at Angel.
"Everything all right? The sweatpants not fit?" She questioned tucking the top sheet in as she put the blankets back on and made the bed. Turning down one corner for their injured companion as she eyed the Renamon with mild concern. Her gaze straying occasionally to the bathroom door and then back to Angel.
"We'll need to keep at least somewhat of an eye on him. I gave him a pretty hefty dose of morphine on the off-chance he decided it was a good idea to fight us on running off." Cassandra warned then again Denryu had shown resistance towards most drugs before so she doubted the medication would kick in all at once on him.
