Devil's Gambit Whitewater City 8:11 PM Four Minutes to Operation Start. Wednesday came all too soon.
It had been barely a week since Holly had stumbled onto Fall Lane, but she was already being put to the test. Their group - Holly, Dark the Impmon, and Iris the Shademon - had already managed to get close to the casino, hiding on a rooftop just two buildings adjacent from it. From their vantage point, they already saw that it was going to be a full house tonight.
Elegant-looking and shockingly well-dressed Digimon lined the sidewalk, half already buzzed from the start of the night's festivities, as they made their way towards Devil's Gambit, illuminated with the bright neon sign in the shape of a Devimon. Some of them were definitely house regulars, but tonight was a special occasion.
'The Count' was to personally make his address, both thanking his sponsors and the city, as well as speak on further business ventures. With that address starting at 8:30 PM, the window was tight - but Dark had explained it earlier:
Our client doesn't want this conference cancelled. They want Count's death to be a warning to further evildoers in the city. And to do that, what better way than to have his messy disappearance found that very same night?
For now, Dark kept a simple look-out at the entrance. With a calm breath, he'd step back into cover, leaning back against the building's air conditioner.
"We're unseen so far." His remark was calm, the Impmon giving a nod towards Holly. "You holding up alright?"

Less than a week.
She had counted the days from that Friday, each one she had put forth all her efforts. All her drive towards this job; learning what she could of from those she would call mentors and about this location. It's in's and outs. Her long days surprised even the Shademon that had brought her into this; pushing herself almost every day for them.
She stared down from the rooftop eyes narrowing a little bit as she saw those elegant and shocking digimon lining the sidewalks. The smell of liquor burned her nostrils and made the younger mon grimace quietly. She didn't mind the smell of liquor, or the halting taste she had once sneaked but... She didn't understand what was to be gained from it. Every individual lead up to the Devil's gambit, that bright neon sign in the shape of a mon she had never met.
She knew the timeframe, she knew the target. She knew what they'd be doing and the limited timeframe they had. They had the option of taking the target before or after the event. A messy disappearance of sorts.
His death.
The words range hollow in her head and she'd flick an ear at hearing the Impmon address her. She'd pull her head back from the edge giving the impmon a thoughtful nod.
"I'm a little nervous. Can't help but worry about it. I keep running the scenario through my head."
The meicoomon bit her lower lip; she could use the vents. The windows, doors, pathways and all sorts. There was many an entry that she could use with her flicker and that was the linchpin that she could use to get in and out if she was careful. She'd be vulnerable during that short span of time but with it being a mostly soundless transition? Well..
"I see where I need to go in my head; spacing shouldn't be an issue..."
She'd slowly lean to peer down for another brief instant before pulling her head back again mulling it over again and again. Her higher form would be the one she'd have to make the strike with but the light of her digivolution was too bright... she'd have to find a place to hide to do that so she could flicker to the right places.
"A lot riding on me..."

"Well. Just remember you're not the only factor, here."
Impmon gave a nod, planting a firm pat on Holly's shoulder as he passed by. Right now, it was time for them to get in position - and as expected, there were no guards posted on the roof of the casino. Tightly packed as these buildings were, it was simply a matter of sprinting over each, and making a jump over one alleyway, to slip into position on the target building's roof.
It was just as Dark's scouting said: atop the building was a single grate, leading into the air vents below. Carefully prying it open, the Impmon nodded towards Holly's shadow. "Iris. Slip inside, and check routes B and D. Both are about the same distance from 'his' dressing room. After that, you will be communicating to us only through thought."
He gave a nod - and slipped down into that vent, motioning for Holly to follow, and for Shade to go on ahead.
8:15.
The operation had started.

"Right. Still. Here goes..."
The meicoomon gave a little sigh and blinked quietly watching the side of the building for a few odd moments. She'd shiver at that pat on the shoulder but would follow suit. It wouldn't be hard for her to jump over the gap of the buildings. She was pretty much a natural at that sort of thing even more so with the training she had been receiving. She'd slide quietly to a stop and glance around. Even with no guards here she was hesitant to move at full tilt but she would follow suit.
Single grate, air vents.
"Understood."
Without another word the shademon would slide out of Holly's shadow pausing at the grate as the Impmon continued for a moment. He was quick to go check route B.
Holly on the other-hand? She'd slip into the vent behind the impmon glancing upwards for a brief instance before sliding to one side. She'd look around and stare at Dark for a moment giving him a nod before easing out of view of the vent. If any guards did patrol that way she didn't want to be in sight. She'd of course keep her movements to a minimum and would watch for any openings in the vents that might not of been listed.
Digivolution here will be tight. But doable. Have to make sure it's in the right places though. Shade could cover...
She'd grit her teeth and glance at dark, shade on the other hand was not hindered by the vents. He would of course quickly check the routes as quietly and as quickly as he could. Which wasn't hard considering he lacked a physical body to muck around with things...

Route B was, fortunately enough for Iris, ideal for their operations. As he would peer outside the vent, he would gave a clear view down the hall. Right around the corner, the second door on the right side, would be where their target was. The hall itself was unguarded, and more importantly, unoccupied from the Shademon's view. The sound of music and noise pollution from the play area filled the corridor, but aside from that, there was not a soul to be seen.
Back in the vent, Dark similarly went out of sight, following closely behind Holly as they made their way through the vent. Before, Holly's tail might have clipped the side - sending a vibration down that metallic tube, a sound that could carry a great distance across the first floor. Thanks to their training, however, both would be silent as ever.
As Iris would return - and likely give them the 'all clear' - Dark would start with his role. Carefully peeling a lower grate off of the vent, the Impmon would cross his arms over his chest, becoming cloaked in a blueish flame, as the rest of his body turned briefly invisible. He gave one deep breath, a deep sense of focus entering his frame, as he jumped on down into the hall.
As soon as his feet touched the ground, he extended his arms outward, that same blue cloak of flame bursting outwards. Nothing caught fire - however, that energy would soon grip onto each and every camera in the hall, the now-visible Impmon clenching his claws tight. Both Iris and Holly would know it quite well: those cameras were now 'stuck', sending the same feed they had seen over the last few seconds over to the main computer.
As Dark would put it? They were 'trapped in time'.
Ninety seconds. Go!

Route B is the best huh?
The sound of music and noise from the outside would help in the event of a slight altercation but it wouldn't allow for something crazy to really take place unless things were increased a touch.
Holly? Well she was moving through the vent quietly, carefully, Her tail flicking to keep her moving properly on all fours. Her balance was nice naturally but something solid like this allowed her to move quickly and quietly.
The all clear signal that followed from Iris clicked in place and Holly watched from the other side of the vent. That bluish flame claiming the impmon before the meicoomon couldn't see them. She'd watch him as best she could figuring with a gentle ear flick once he landed that gentle touch of his feet on the floor sounding like a pin drop to her. There was a brief inhale and the meicoomon hopped out of the vent flipping mid air to have the shademon follow through with her.
Light.
A wordless order at best but it was next to instant. The Shademon's body wrapped around holly's hiding her from the world for a moment as that digivolution of hers took place. Before her feet touched the ground she was at ultimate. There was a moment where she took in her new form and like a bullet she made her way down the hallway. Her head was the first thing around the corner; she would sweep before moving forward if the coast was clear at least.
Turn. Door. Open. Wrist flick...
There were a few things in her head that would play differently as she made her way down the hall. They had a very small window and even less for any problems. The meicrackmon flicked her wrist and applied pressure on the door, waiting to see if it opened...
All of your focus Holly...
I know.

A lot could happen in ninety seconds, but for these three, it was also a terribly short span of time. The Impmon stayed on the ground, keeping his focus to maintain the spell on the security cameras. Right now, there wasn't a point to conceal his own presence: he gave a brief look upwards, as the Meicoomon made her descent from the vents.
She didn't waste any time: in that same descent, using the Shademon to provide cover, the black-furred Meicrackmon managed to land on the ground, muting the sound of the landing with the soft carpet underneath. She didn't need to be told - the cat darted right off, towards the target door that she memorized in advance. And to her advantage, there was no-one to spot her as she turned the corner, just mere moments from opening that door.
With a flick of her wrist, the door would turn, easily able to be opened, revealing Myotismon's office - and the vampire, sitting behind his desk, pen scratching at the paper below. He was somewhat distracted, but naturally, his head flicked up, to see the ultimate in front of him.
But that just went back to her training:
No hesitation. Even if they see you, they are not prepared.
You are not learning how to fight.
You are learning how to kill.

There was that moment.
That second, as all individuals would feel. That moment that some knew when they went too far; or when they were going to do something that they would regret. To others they would look at a moment like this with a sense of pride.
For holly? Her training, her body and core felt ready for this. Even as her mind was taking in the precautions she didn't even think about the next thing she was going to do. Her body willed on as though by instinct; that flick of the wrist just brought something else.
In what seemed like agonizing slow motion her hand came up lightning dancing along her arm and fingertips. Gathering together in her palm. It extended out like a a hand grasping, reaching touching. It wasn't looking to do either of those three things.
It grasped at death.
It reached towards the myotismon.
If allowed? If the myotismon even hesitated for an instant?
It would touch right in the center most of his chest, and would punch through that well mannered suit. There was no sound on the side of holly's mind, no mixing turning machinations. There was just that pure desire to do what she needed to. What she should do to this mon who was responsible for so much pain.
But if he dodged it? What would she do next?
Oh did she know.
But it wasn't the meicrackmon that realized what she had lost in that moment. The pure sense of innocence that she could never get back. That special light in her eyes; it took only a second for the shademon to notice that gentle tick in her head.

There was that moment.
That moment, when the realization of what was about to happen donned on him. The Myotismon was not a weak Digimon, by any stretch of the imagination: the data he had stolen from the high rollers of the casino had bolstered his power immensely, and had given him reign over the 'underworld' of Whitewater. He was confident that he could push back any challenger, and that he could rule from the safety of this office, of his Casino.
What he wasn't ready for, was for that illusion to be shattered before his very eyes. The image he saw before him, of the MeiCrackmon extending her claw forth, was not that of anyone he had wronged, or of an upstart uprising that he could swiftly put down. No.
This was a pure assassin.
"Gu-ah!"
His cry was swift, his eyes in shock as that claw bored right through his chest, piercing through, even stabbing through the chair behind him. The vampire gave no tangible words - a mere attempt given to grip around that arm, for a moment unaware of his own condition. There was no fanfare, no last words - a moment later, he fell flat on the desk, his body quickly dissolving into a cloud of red data.
... But even then? The Myotismon's death was only a small part of this.
They had forty seconds left.

She could see the change of expressions on his face in slow motion, the smugness and concentration before he had looked up. The confidence of his own power; the sudden change as he realized it meant nothing to her. She'd stare down at the Myotismon as her arm punched through him. She could feel his life pressing away around her. The sound he made was something a certain aspect of her cherished.
She would watch for a few long moments, no last words. No fanfare... he just fell flat on the desk. That cloud of red data taunting her. Wanting her; pressing for her. The Shademon realized a few instances that he had no chance of doing.
He couldn't load the myotismon he wasn't strong enough. Dark couldn't do it either he was in the other room. The cry would of grabbed attention... He gritted his teeth and a soft gentle push across the meicrackmon's vulnerable mind in this moment.
Eat.
Holly didn't question it, she didn't even respond at first. She just pressed down against the desk pulling that data towards her without a second thought. Pulling at every single strange particle to her. Every spec of dust into her body.
She had maybe spent ten seconds doing so and she felt her body give a right pulse as it took a mere few moments to settle at least for now. She blinked in concious confusion as what she did just dawned on her but Iris had no time for games here!
Vent!
The meicrackmon was faster on her feet than most, and shot out of the door sliding across the carpet for a brief moment before tearing back towards Dark. She'd briefly nod and kick off of the ground. Grabbing onto the vent and pulling herself into it. Her tail hanging down for an equal moment as dark would probably need to jump up and grab onto it... If he did? Well she would quickly bring him up and let him slide that vent into place. While shade took that moment to wrap around the ultimate's body. Letting the meicrackmon slide back down to the meicoomon...

The window was tight.
Yes, it was necessary to load the data, but the precious few moments that were lost made their escape so much tighter. As expected, Dark grasped right onto the MeiCrackmon's tail, not even needed to question if Holly had succeeded.
The cry that tore out and the sound of approaching footsteps were a signal enough. In fact, it didn't take long for things on the ground floor to grow hot. The sound of an alarm rung out through the entire facility, guests evacuating in droves as guards started to scour the halls.
Even in the vents, it wasn't safe. There would not even be a moment of rest, the Impmon leading back out through the still-open vent of the roof. From there, they would sprint straight across the back end of the Casino, before slipping two buildings to the left. Right now, Dark's eyes were entirely focused: though Holly might not have noticed it now, those were near the same eyes that Holly held in that moment.
Once they reached the top of an alley, the Impmon took a breath, and slid down a gutter as if it were a pole. He'd give a step out for Holly to do the same - and then he would raise a hand, for her to 'hold position'.
He gave one deep breath, his expression relaxing... as he simply walked out onto the sidewalk, the same as anyone else in the city would have done.
"Sheesh, that sounds like a mess..." The imp turned his neck, looking briefly to the sound of the noise. "Kitty, do you still have our tickets?"

Holly felt that pressure on her tail, it was a good thing Dark had taken her suggestion without even a moment of hesitation. It made the transition even easier to be perfectly frank. The now meicoomon bit her lower lip and followed after the impmon; her eyes somewhat glazed in a sense as she was processing that data still. There was so much in there it was hard to really properly concentrate but her body was on autopilot following after the impmon.
Once on the roof and the fresh air hit her face she shook her head. She wasn't able to see Dark's eyes but she was still following after him. Even ontop of the roof and then to the back end of the casino. A small few moments later they were to the buildings to the left. She'd place a hand on her head looking around once they were at the top of that alleyway/
She'd follow suit down that pole, Iris easily following the duo the entire way after all. He was sitting well in one of holly's shadows. The meicoomon froze when Dark told her to hold, her tail stiffening for a moment.
At that relaxing moment she'd follow suit and pad after him quietly. She could still feel the last vestiges of that Myotismon. What had she... what was that red? She'd blink a bit and look up when the Impmon spoke.
"It does doesn't it? Uhm..."
She'd bite her lower lip and pad around her fur with a frown shaking her head in the soft motion of defeat. She felt the pounding in her head, in her stomach and in her core.. it made it hard to think at the moment but she stuttered out her response at the very least. She sounded more like a flustered kid than anything right now!
"No... I think I dropped them earlier? Probably when that guy bumped me..."

It didn't take Dark much to realize what Holly was going through. After all, he had gone through the same thing:
This was her first kill. She felt terrible. And she had no idea what to do now. The Impmon understood, but none of that was conducive to their escape - but at the very least, the Meicoomon knew to play along. "Mm? You dropped them?" The Imp raised a finger, giving Holly's ear a flick, slightly shaking his head. "Its what happens when you spend too much time partying out at night. Alright, c'mon..."
He stepped closer, and supported his arm around the Meicoomon's back, as if trying to help her walk. "Really, its no big deal. We'll just get a couple more at the station - I should still have a few bills tucked away in my glove. And, um, Kitty?"
The Impmon blinked, and gave a small sigh. "Don't worry about the tickets. You did good - we'll chat more when we get back to our place, alright?"

Maybe it was the fact she had loaded them.
Maybe it was the fact she had killed someone, her stomach, her core, everything just felt... Weird. But thankfully iris was there for a soothing gentle touch to her mindspace. She'd feel her shoulders sag a little bit and she'd nod to his question. Letting out a surprised sound at that earflick.
"S-sorry... Butter-paws yanno?"
She'd give the impmon a small somewhat tender smile before following suit. That wrapping arm making her bristle quietly. But she'd lean slightly to go along with it. She wasn't sure exactly what else she could do but play along with him.
"All right... still you shouldn't have to buy more... Y-yeah?"
She'd blink owlishly and flick her ears quietly as he gave that sigh. Telling her that she shouldn't worry about the tickets. That they would chat back when they got to their place. So they'd probably have to tell her more when they got back to the heights of luminas. More jobs maybe? More... of this?
She'd exhale slowly and nod her head. But... she did good?
"Okay! Probably for the best... maybe after I have some water too..."
There was a nervous earnest chuckle and the meicoomon's brows furrowed a bit. She felt nervous still but there was a plethora of other reasons rather than just that red data she had drawn into herself...

Holly's queasiness, her stutter, her sudden loss of confidence.
All of these things were easily disguised by simply being a drunkard in the middle of the night. "Oh, don't worry too much about it. We bought 'em, so we'll show them the receipt later and get it sorted out." Giving a convincing chuckle, the Impmon would lead her right to the Trailmon station - his foot carefully stepping in Holly's shadow.
Iris. Once she's back... well. You know what its like after the first time. I'll... bring the bucket around.
"Alright, c'mon, you." Like that, he would lead her to the station... ... And, eventually, right back to the guild's base. At this point, it was easily 1:00 in the morning, only Peck there to greet the two as they fell right onto that landing cushion. A few minutes later, Holly would be brought to her hammock - and, just as the Impmon promised, a plastic bucket was put right on the side of her 'bed'.
"Standard procedure now, Holly," Dark started to explain: "You, myself, and Iris will stay in this base for at least 24 hours, while one of the others scouts the news and evidence reports. For now, I need to work on my report. Iris, help her with whatever she needs."
