The operation went sideways before Silence even made it through the gate. The members of Silence - all eighteen of them - thought it best to approach the gates to Luminas together, openly, rather than stored after Blimpmon landed above the clouds, as they knew the digimon inside were rather distrustful of outsiders, especially the rougher types gathering at the gate. Just how mistrustful, however, they miscalculated. On approach, all four of the Angemon at the gate became deservedly hostile.
"Come no closer!"
"Don't move!" This was a scenario that had been discussed even though it wasn't desired: hostility to a large force of battle-ready digimon containing some viruses. So, they followed the procedure they had prearranged. Commandramon placed his weapon on the ground, and those beings with hands calmly raised them in surrender (though they did so with varying levels of willingness and reluctance). The gun was promptly confiscated along with Commandramon's knife, grenades, and contents of his pack as well as Tadayoshi's Loader.
Commandramon declared, "We were promised our surrender was in exchange for fair treatment, and it would only be in the presence of your chief of police forces!"
"Kana's a busy woman," goaded the Angemon ziptying Tadayoshi's wrists behind his back.
"I'm confident she'll make time for us if you let her know we will be maintaining our Silence until we see her. She knows what that means." What made that phrase special was that the word Silence was the only English word in a Japanese sentence.
"What does it mean?" Like he promised, Commandramon kept quiet. For that reason, Silence was transferred to a holding cell and trapped there for about an hour before anybody came to get them. Commandramon noticed this haste.
"Come with me," demanded the Angewoman who opened the cell door and returned all confiscated property to the small army.
"That faster than I expected."
"The sooner you leave, the sooner this whole mess ends," the Angewoman growled.
Renamon couldn't resist the jab, "It's polite for a superior to apologize for mistreatment by subordinates."
"Don't push your luck, girl. You're fortunate you weren't extinguished on the spot."
"Ma'am," Tadayoshi finally piped up, "We respect your way of doing things, but you're the chief of the secret police. Can't you just hire whomever you wish at your discretion?"
"I can. That doesn't mean I should, and it certainly doesn't mean I want to for that matter. My superiors will find an excuse to remove me from my duties if it gets out I invited mercenaries and viruses into my city, and that's if I'm lucky. You promised me you could be discreet! I had heard your group did as told and didn't ask questions." Tadayoshi, Commandramon, Renamon, and Hagurumon were the only ones who truly understood why: they had been duped into serving with an evil organization who wanted them to help toward a noble goal by itself that served part of its larger plan. They did not regret their involvement, however, for the very reason that their part was for a good cause.
"Of course. Wouldn't want it to get out your elite police can't contain one little hooligan."
"Renamon!" Commandramon scolded her.
Thinking quickly, Tadayoshi stepped between all three of them and bowed at the angel in a show of supplication, pleading, "Forgive her! She can be rude, but we cannot do our jobs without her." Tadayoshi knew this was a risky client to take and that secretly moonlighting from AEGIS like this was also itself inadvisable, but he accepted this job to give his soldiers a cure for their ever-growing restlessness. Things were pretty quiet prior to the new year, after all.
The basic objective of the job seemed sufficiently simple and adequately moral: to capture alive a spree criminal that had adapted well to local authorities' tactics and was evading them too easily. All they could get of her was an ID as Angel the BlackTerriermon, which was helpful except for the fact that her motives and location were a big fat question mark. That was no matter under normal circumstances, but this op had an additional constraint: the local law wanted credit for the capture, meaning Silence was supposed to not reveal its presence to the general population. For the same reason, live capture was the only option for a change so that she could be subject to all the legal theater before her execution like these good, angelic digimon wanted.
In any case, her fate wasn't Silence's problem. If Luminas told the truth, this girl's violent streak would make her a problem in whatever city she happened to be born in, and this skybound city being cursed with her was a mere coincidence.
Tracking was this crew's specialty, of course. Between aerial surveillance from Helomon high over the highest clouds and Sealsdramon's sneaky vision, she was found in an underground hideout she seemed to have hastily dug and built for herself in a small, inconspicuous alleyway. "All set? Alpha, detonate." A MetalKoromon on top of a trapdoor exploded, blowing it open. Commandramon threw his Bangsmoke grenade down the hole and waited the bang, followed by the scream of agony proving it had worked. After he and Renamon jumped down the hole, they reemerged under sixty seconds later with the girl's arms and ears bound. "Textbook," Tadayoshi complimented.
Stuck between them was a BlackTerriermon who acted neither happy nor angry, only a little skeptical and surprised. "You're not the police," she observed.
"You'll see them soon."
"Do you have a death wish? If you do, you should let me do it, not them!" Commandramon ignored her, but as he tried to take her away Renamon held tight onto her.
"What are you talking about?"
"They not gonna let it get out they called a virus to catch me. You all gonna get locked away for life, since you helped them out and all. That's what's gonna happen if you turn me ova!" Finally, Commandramon paused. He huffed; unfortunately, even though he was trained in the case of prisoners playing mind games, but the truth was he thought that was an extremely plausible turn of events. Looking around, he found agreement in his comrades' eyes. "You suckers aren't getting paid for this, that's for sure. You want out of this city? We go together!"
"Why shouldn't we just drop where you are and leave you?"
"Because she's just gonna get loose and go right back to terrorizing the city."
"Damn straight!" Tadayoshi was even more correct than he had thought; without anyone noticing, she had managed to slip her restraints. She spun once, then, which summoned a couple of grenades out of thin air that she caught with her ears. Commandramon didn't get his gun up in time to stop her, but she didn't throw them. They were just her bargaining chip. She smiled, acknowledging her leverage, and calmly asked, "What's it gonna be?"
