Sweetest Love, I Do Not Go (DFRP Valentine's Event)

Shoutmon was probably in the lowest of lows right now.
Sure, he still had his best friend Adrian and he regained his memories and his feelings. But that was the problem; his memories and feelings. Specifically, the ones that included his former love... Lia.
He missed Lia so much.
His memory was hazy for the exact accounts that happened, but he does remember rushing to Lia's side. Shoutmon saw her eyes tear up as her body was reduced to nothing but code. The event that took place rendered her digicore in a state beyond repair. She couldn't be reincarnated. He had to watch as she disappeared forever... and that event set his previous life on the path of anarchy and terrorism. Still, he missed her. A lot.
For the first time in... ever, he broke away from Adrian for a bit. Shoutmon found himself in the nicest section of Terminus City, the area with all the restaurants and venues to visit. He didn't like feeling like this, he wanted his old way of life back, his old self back. Maybe leaving Adrian wasn't the best thing to do today, he thought. Unless something came up, Shoutmon would probably just get a meal somewhere and call it a day.

Terminus City wasn't a place that Skye the Gatomon normally went. Ordinarily she preferred to keep to the smaller towns and villages around the digital world. However, she was always trying to find new experiences, and what better way than to explore what seemed to be the Capital of the digital world?
It was... simply enormous. Skye had walked the floating streets and terraces of Luminas City, the run-down but still functioning Fragment Village, the leafy avenues of Rosewood Town, but this was just something that blew her mind when she first saw the shining skyscrapers of Terminus. And at night, when the neon lights came to life, Skye thought that was truly incredible.
Normally she would be with her companions Jorge the Shoutmon and Hickory the Chuumon, but not tonight. While they were friends with Skye and she trusted them with her life, their little trio would be broken up for the moment. Namely because Jorge and Hickory seemed to want to spend some time together, and Skye took the hint and decided to go her own way.
Thus, here she was in the glitzy entertainment district of Terminus. She didn't stand out much, simply a blue-eyed white-furred Gatomon, dressed in only a golden tailring, her claw-gloves, and a bandana she wore on her upper arm, red and black with the crest of a golden sword and wheel upon it - the emblem that marked her as a digimon of the 7/71st Recon. But few digimon here seemed to know that, and she was comfortable with it.
As she walked along the promenade of warm-looking restaurants, she noticed a digimon that caught her attention. For a moment she thought the familiar red and white reptile digimon was Jorge, but no, he was different. Smaller somehow, and lacking the scarf and belt that the other Shoutmon had. Skye looked away, but then turned again, noting that he seemed a little unhappy.
Welp, Skye thought that she might as well ask if he needed assistance. Digimon of the big city might not be inclined to go out of their way to help, but Skye wasn't a big city digimon. She'd approach him and ask "Hey, something the matter?" at a respectful distance. If not, she'd be on her way. But, she kinda hoped that something nice might come of this act. Thinking about Jorge and Hickory made her feel kinda lonely.

The red dragon was sulking to himself when he suddenly heard a voice ask if something was wrong. When Shoutmon looked up, he saw that a Gatomon was speaking to him from a little bit away. At first Shoutmon just wanted to tell her to beat it, as he really was genuinely miserable, but that wasn't his style even if he was upset. Instead of shooing her away, Shoutmon decided to make conversation in the best way he could given his condition.
"I... I guess you could say that," Shoutmon said, "I was just thinking of an old friend who... who isn't coming back, if you know what I mean." Shoutmon tried to keep his voice neutral, but the sadness was kind of making his voice a bit shaky. Even after that, he looked at the Gatomon with a big smile on his face. "But it's nice to see that someone cares, at least. Thank you."
Shoutmon thought that this would be the end of their conversation, until he noticed the Gatomon's bandana. He had seen the crest that was on it somewhere before, but he could not remember for the life of him. "Hey, uh... it's nice to meet you, by the way. My name's Shoutmon. May I ask... what is that emblem on your bandana there? It looks really familiar, but I can't put my finger on where I've seen it before."

Skye gave a sympathetic look at Shoutmon. "I understand that feeling" she said. She might have continued with ...all too well, but thought perhaps that would be revealing a little too much. "Not a problem, acts of kindness make the world a better place I guess" she would state instead.
He would then notice her bandana and introduced himself. "My name's Skye, it's nice to meet you, Shoutmon" she said, offering a pawshake. "This? Ah, that's just the emblem of the 7/71st Recon. We're just a group of digimon that want to stop bad things from happening around the world. I'm its Lieutenant, Owen the Gaomon is our Captain. Have you met him?"
She supposed that he had met Owen, given the emblem looked familiar. Thinking of Owen made Skye begin to get ideas; how happy the old Captain seemed to be settling down in Rosewood with his family. But these ideas would remain unspoken for the moment.
"Say... are you going any particular place?" Skye asked, blinking a little, startled at her own bluntness. "I mean... from experience, a nice meal can help you take your mind off things that make you unhappy, right?" she continued.

"You... you understand?" Shoutmon asked, looking at Skye with a questioning look. "Then that must mean you lost someone too, right? Wait, nevermind, you don't have to share with me. I asked too much..."
The Gatomon introduced herself as Skye, offering a handshake to Shoutmon, which he accepted happily. She then said that the emblem was the emblem of the 7/71st Recon, and Shoutmon instantly remembered. "Oh yeah, now I remember! My Tamer and I are good pals with Owen. We even helped him defend a group of rookies on their journey to Rosewood once. Haven't seen him since, though."
Skye asked if Shoutmon was going anywhere in particular, suggesting that a nice meal would help cheer him up. Her reaction to her own question was priceless, Shoutmon thought, as he couldn't help but chuckle a little. "No, I wasn't going anywhere specifically. I just needed some time to calm down after everything that's happened. But yeah, a meal would be fantastic. Any recommendations?"

"I have..." Skye admitted with a sigh, supposing it wouldn't hurt to reveal. "I used to be a soldier, and I saw many of my friends and comrades die in front of me, some permanently..." she looked a little melancholy, but she wasn't upset by saying that. She had come to terms with losses like that long ago.
That he was friends with Owen made Skye smile. She knew the Gaomon would never abide by anyone who was cruel and unkind, so this association made her inclined to see him positively. "That's wonderful. The server woods can be a dangerous place for newly evolved digimon, it's good of you to help them out" she said. "And heh, funny to meet a digimon who knows someone you do. Small world, eh?"
Shoutmon indicated that he wasn't going anywhere in particular, and furthermore seemed to be alone. Well, all the signs weren't looking too bad actually, so Skye decided that maybe accompanying him wouldn't be a bad idea. "This is my first time in Terminus so I wouldn't know anywhere to visit" she admitted. "If you like we can maybe take a look for a place?"
Welp, she supposed by asking that, it was about as good as a formal indication that she wouldn't mind spending time with this Shoutmon.

"Look... how about we pause all the downer talk, the talk about death and such, hm?" Shoutmon suggested. "I know I was just sulking, but it really doesn't do anyone any good to only talk about the bad." It was quite ironic that Shoutmon was saying this, but that's how he felt. Even if he was sad, he hated the feeling and would do anything to cheer himself or others up.
"Heh, yeah, it really is funny how small the Digital World can be sometimes," Shoutmon agreed, laughing a bit and putting his hands behind his head. "Also, everytime my Tamer and I DO meet up with Owen, he gains an extra kid. Is he still at three kids, or did more just poof into existence?"
Oh Yggdrasil, if he actually did get more kids I'm gonna faint.
It was clear to Skye that by this point, Shoutmon had a completely different personality than the Shoutmon that was sulking in the corner just a minute ago. She had shared that it was her first time in Terminus and that she would be willing to go looking for a place with him. "Yeah, Terminus is a bit intimidating. My buddy and I have been 'round this city quite a few times, so I know where things are. Question is, what're you in the mood for today? As for myself... I'll eat anything." Shoutmon laughed. Hopefully he was putting a smile on Skye's face as well.

"Agreed, that's for the best" Skye said, preferring to not go down that line of conversation again. She would smile a little as Shoutmon mentioned Owen's children. "Yes, he's got quite a family going there" she agreed. "And not that I know of. Last I saw him, his youngest kid was Bezil, the furry Gumdramon".
She wouldn't be surprised if there were more. Owen sure liked his partner Hikaru.
So then, seemed like they'd be eating together. Shoutmon mentioned he'd been here a few times so he was probably more familiar with the place. "Well... I wouldn't mind some seafood if I'm honest" the Gatomon said, beginning to walk down the promenade, taking note of the restaurants. There was a steakhouse, a Tokyo style sushi bar, a ramen bar, a Chinese food restaurant, cafe's of all types. Skye noticed that there were some humans present as well. Many on tables for two, smiling at each other.
"Hmm. You can probably tell that it's close to Valentine's day" the Gatomon remarked, smirking.
Eventually, Skye saw a restaurant that obtained her attention. The name of it appeared to be "Ryker and Rohan's Reef Grill", and she could smell whiffs of some salty fresh seafood from it.
"How about here?" she suggested to Shoutmon.

"Okay, Bezil was the last of his kids that I met," Shoutmon stated, "so that has to mean that he and Hikaru didn't do that much more handholding, hahaha!" Wow, it was a miracle what even one other friend can do to completely change someone's mood.
Skye had brought up the idea that they could go and get some seafood. Shoutmon thought that seafood was a great idea. He immediately began thinking of all the different types of seafood as he and Skye traversed the large city. Fish, sushi, takoyaki... it was sure making him hungrier.
He was so deep in thought that it came as a shock when Skye spoke to him again, referring to how it was almost Valentine's Day. "Hm- what? Sorry, was lost in thought..." Shoutmon admitted. He looked to where Skye was looking and did notice all the tables for two in the surrounding restaurants. "Valentine's Day, huh? My partner Adrian isn't a big fan of the holiday. Do you have a partner, Skye? Or at least other friends?"
The two Digimon stopped at a restaurant that Skye seemed to want to go to. Shoutmon could smell all the different smells coming from the place, and it all smelled delicious. "Heck yeah, let's go here," Shoutmon agreed with Skye. He would then go over to the door of the restaurant and open it up for Skye, like he noticed Adrian do for other people. "Ladies first."

Skye tilted her head curiously at what Shoutmon said. "Handholding? Is that what it's called?" she asked, blinking a little. Then put a paw to her mouth in thought. 'Although I suppose that does make sense. Owen told me that when two digimon that are completely devoted and trusting of each other voluntarily combine some of their data, that then flies off to the Village of Beginnings and forms a digimon that has part of the data from both of their parents' she thought, then realized the silence was getting a bit awkward.. "Ah... sorry about that, my mind can wander sometimes". Particularly when she was nervous. Which she was, kinda.
Shoutmon then mentioned that his partner didn't like the holiday much. Skye shrugged, she supposed humans felt more strongly about it than digimon did. "Ah, no, I don't have a partner" she said. "Seems like I missed out in the great human lottery, or however it's called. I don't mind though. I do have friends however. There's Owen, who I mentioned before, then my companions Hickory, he's a Chuumon, and Jorge, he's a Shoutmon. Almost like you, just bigger".
So, it seemed this would suit as their venue for dinner. Skye was surprised when Shoutmon politely opened the door for her. "Thank you" she said, giving a smile. She liked considerate actions like that.
When inside, they were greeted by a Gomamon sitting on a stool by the entrance. He looked rather funny, dressed in a white shirt with a black vest and a red bowtie "Hiya! Welcome!" he said. "Table for two?"
"Ah... yes, sure" Skye affirmed. Gomamon then directed them over to an empty table by a window. Skye hesitantly sat down, hoping this would be a good choice of action. She looked at the menu, deciding on some oysters to share for an entree, then a grilled fish for the main. After ordering, Skye turned back to Shoutmon, wondering what conversation piece to begin with.
"So... Shoutmon, what's it like having a human partner?" she opened, curiously. Come to think of it she hadn't met many other digimon that did have human partners.

"No, probably not," Shoutmon responded, laughing. "It's just what I like to call it. Whatever they do, it's certainly better than what humans do to gain children, and I shall NOT infect your mind with that knowledge. Trust me; it's better that way." Hopefully Skye wasn't going to ask, anyways.
Skye proceeded to tell Shoutmon that while she didn't have a human partner of her own (Man, she's missing out, Shoutmon thought,) she did have quite a few friends. There was Owen of course, but then she mentioned a Chuumon named Hickory and another Shoutmon named Jorge. "While we're speaking of other Shoutmons, Adrian and I know one who is probably the loudest one of them all. He's in the band 'Haunted Melody,' I think it was called, or something like that. He's... unique, I'll say that much. And unlike other Shoutmons, he's covered in actual scales instead of metal, weirdly enough."
Walking inside the restaurant, it took Shoutmon all of his strength to not laugh at how goofy the Gomamon looked in his outfit, but he managed. They followed the Gomamon to their table and sat down, both of them looking at the menu that was placed in front of them. Shoutmon could practically feel his stomach crying out due to the food options on offer here. Skye ordered oysters to share and some grilled fish, while Shoutmon went for a Fishermon's Basket order.
After they ordered, Skye struck conversation with Shoutmon, asking him what it was like to have a human partner. "Well... I can't really describe it if I tried. It's like... like a bond you must have with your own friends. Only extra strong. We come from entirely different worlds, yet we care for each other. With my past, any other human would've bailed on me right then and there. But Adrian didn't. He stuck with me until the very end. He's... he's a real good kid. You won't truly understand until you get a human partner yourself."

"Okay..." Skye said in response to that. While she knew as much as the fact that humans did not hatch from eggs, that was the limitations of what she knew. Owen had told her that most humans get kind of embarrassed if asked so he didn't know either, so she supposed that Shoutmon was telling the truth that it was probably best not to ask.
That Shoutmon didn't ask about Jorge and Hickory confirmed that he didn't know them, which was as much as she expected. Shoutmon would then talk about yet another Shoutmon, who appeared to be in a band. "Interesting" Skye remarked as he explained about his uniqueness. "I'm afraid I don't know of any other Gatomons, but, it's appreciated all the same". Perhaps he was telling her this so she wouldn't mistake the other Shoutmon for him. Speaking of, that made her curious. "So, Shoutmon, you... actually are made of metal?" she asked, blinking with surprise. How unusual, she could've sworn from knowing Jorge that they were indeed covered in scales. Other than his chest plate, shoulders, forearms and feet, Jorge was pretty lizard-like too.
As they waited for their order, Skye decided to simply listen for the moment, interested in the story of what it was like to be partnered to a human. "Hmm, so... like a bond with my friends, yet stronger?" she attempted to repeat. 'Of course, digimon partnered to humans can evolve through the power of 'digivices'. That adds up' she thought. "I see" she would say, sipping on some complimentary water. Shoutmon mentioned something about his past. Skye raised an eyebrow with curiosity, but, supposed she didn't want to pry on that, not at this stage. So she said nothing about that.
"Well, I suppose so" she answered. "I don't think I'm destined to be partnered to a human though. I can evolve to the Ultimate level by myself, so, from what I hear, that means there probably isn't a human out there waiting for me".
Still, that made her curious. "So how long have you been with Adrian, Shoutmon? How far are you with your evolutions?". She hoped she didn't sound too nosy, just she was curious about just how experienced in the world the red mecha-reptile was.

Surprisingly for Skye, Shoutmon actually started laughing when she asked if he was ACTUALLY made of metal. "Of course I'm not! I ain't a Guardromon or anything like that. For a majority of Shoutmons, the scales make our skin look like they are pure metal. The Shoutmon I was talking about looks more... organic, as it were."
"It's the best way I can describe it," Shoutmon says, referring to his bond with Adrian. "I honestly don't understand it myself. Something Adrian and I are trying to find out is why the barrier between the two worlds is so weak in Shibuya. The Digital Field Club will probably figure that out first, I bet."
Skye then stated that she could already digivolve to Ultimate on her own, with her reasoning that it meant that there would be no human waiting for her. "Hey, I managed to get to Mega on my own, and yet here I am with a human partner. I'm sure you'll find your human someday, Skye." Then Skye got onto the subject of digivolution heights. "Well so far, I can reach Mega. But I honestly prefer my Ultimate form more, OmniShoutmon.

Skye blushed a little from embarrassment as the notion that Shoutmon was pure metal was that absurd. She supposed it was. She could see his scales and such, just the screws in his chest, forearms and ankles somewhat confused her at first sight when she noticed them.
"Ah, right, so this Shoutmon in question doesn't have the screws and plates that you do?" Skye asked, maintaining her dignity. Thankfully it didn't seem to linger further than that.
Skye then listened to what Shoutmon had to say further, that this part of the human world called 'Shibuya' seemed to be the epicenter of digimon activity on their world. The Gatomon remembered that Owen told her that most humans came from there to the digital world. She then picked up on the other thing he said.
"Digital Field Club?" she repeated. "What's that group about?". As she said so, their entree was served. A dozen oysters, served Kilpatrick; with bacon, worcestershire sauce and parsley, with lemon to taste. Skye's blue eyes shone with delight at the meal. Her mood was at its most agreeable as she sampled the taste of her first oyster. Man was it good.
Skye pondered on what Shoutmon had to say next, that he had managed Mega level without a human partner, yet here he was, with a human partner. "Hmm, do you think so?" she asked, curiously. She ate another couple of oysters in pensive thought, wondering what a possible human partner would be like for her. She tried to think of one, but since Skye had never met a human before, it was hard for her to picture one. She realized this and made a weak kind of smile. "As hard as it is to imagine, I've never actually met a human before" she admitted.
But then she was made curious about Shoutmon saying he could reach Mega level. "Oh wow, that's a pretty high level there" she said. "I hope the path of getting to that level wasn't too hard for you" she'd say in an attempt to stay tactful. She didn't want to force him to reveal painful memories after all.

"Exactly," Shoutmon confirms as he nods, hoping that the situation was less confusing for Skye now. "He also types like a complete idiot. You've heard of Tamernet, right? It's a chatboard for Digimon and Tamers, so it's easier to stay in touch with friends and such. Anyways, take a look at this." Shoutmon then proceeded to open up Tamernet on his personal D-Terminal and showed a couple of messages from that other Shoutmon to Skye:
who needs parnts anywy fck em
wdnt say it if it wsnt tru
aint nbdy got tim 4 grmr
"Yeah, this Digimon is just barely literate..." Shoutmon says, sweatdropping a little. Right after that, the couple's food had arrived. Shoutmon had ordered the Fishermon's Basket, which was, in short, a lot of food. "Oh boy, this looks delicious," Shoutmon cheered as he put away the D-Terminal. Right as he was about to dig in, Skye had asked about the Digital Field Club. "Oh! That's a group of Tamers who are basically like scientists, trying to learn and discover as much about our world as possible. Things that we possibly don't even know."
So far, in Shoutmon's mind, this night was going successfully. One, he's getting an amazing dinner. And two, he made a new friend! However... for some reason, he feels more attached to this friend than any other Digimon. Not in the same way he and Adrian were attached...
Could it be that... that he likes her? Was it too soon to move on from Lia?
His thoughts were momentarily wiped away when Skye mentioned that she had never met a human before. "You haven't? Hey, I have an idea. Maybe sometime soon we can introduce our friends to each other. Adrian loves meeting new Digimon, you know!"
