Chapter IV: The War of Terminus
Episode 6 (Part 1): Hello, My Happiness! A lovely deceit!
An emergency!? What kind of emergency could be taking place at a place called 'Paradise Island'? Maybe something related to the Deeplane City Council™? Or maybe it was some personal issue regarding Amelie? Whatever were the answers to these questions, Katherine wasn't about letting a friend on her own. However, it wasn't a lie either that she had been working hard alongside Bastian these past few days and she was honestly exhausted. The information Amelie had brought them after that almost suicidal mission she had gone to (which obviously gained the blue-eyed her fair quote of 'are you insane!? You could have died there!' from Katherine), had been rather interesting and had definitely given some important input to their progress, allowing them to start roughing out a plan to enter the villain's hideout in Terminus. Deciphering that map to the Drum Sanctuary, planning the Dark Army's raiding and all of this issues regarding Yomi's D-Tector had the teenager completely worn out. Still, she was here. Bastian had managed to open a portal for her, following the coordinates Amelie had sent her through Tamernet. According to their leader, Jazz didn't need to come. Which was honestly a shame, considering the beautiful landscape Katherine was met with just upon her arrival. The wind was refreshing. The sun was warm but not excessively hot. The sand she was walking on was so white, she decided it was almost a crime to not take her shoes off and feel it with the sole of her feet. Just some meters away she could see the water, crashing on the shore in waves that issued a very relaxing sound. The sea was crystalline, to the point it was almost impossible to tell it apart from the sky. This place was so perfect it almost made her feel bad to be wearing her synthetic leather jacket and jeans instead of her favorite swimwear. What kind of emergency could be taking place in such a mesmerizing place? Looking for any type of answer, the teenager was quick to spot two beach-beds under a parasol, not too far from her. Holding her shoes with one hand and her head with the other, trying to avoid the wind from messing her hair up too much, she slowly walked towards this sighting. Once she got there, she noticed the whole settlement was prettier than it seemed like from afar. The beach-beds were of a light blue color, while a couple of light-blue colored drinks rested on top of a small table of the same color. What immediately caught her glance was a pretty big package, placed on top of one of this beach-beds. Could this be related to the emergency? There was only one way to know. Katherine started untying the package, aiming to discover what waited on the inside. Akemi & Anzu WC: 470.

Uncertainty. Not able to be relied on; not known or definite. This was the feeling that had been running through Akemi Amaya for the past...fifteen or so minutes. It wasn't hard to understand why. So soon after she had gotten back from a rather harrowing trip of the accidental variety towards the skies, and Amelie sends her on a special assignment.
To a rather cozy-sounding island. Was the mission to relax or something? Maybe? Akemi did lend her fair share in the search for Bastian. What a relief they were able to actually -find- him, too! Yet after the conclusion of that trip? One that netted Anzu a strange epiphany at the end, thanks to Eris?
Akemi could probably have used something less stressful. At the very least, this was something she was reportedly able to do with her own two hands, and something she didn't need Anzu's help for. Priere was even able to open her a portal to this island with the coordinates she had been sent. Awfully nice for a nun that held her at gunpoint at one time.
The island was idyllic. Akin to a paradise. Akemi had adjusted her hat as she opted to move carefully. She wasn't uncertain about the island itself. Of course some place in the world could look this pretty. Yet somehow it managed to make heaven itself seem dull. Wearing a G-Gundam t-shirt and jeans to this was likely...Not something she should have done in anticipation of this, really.
So. Where was the emergency? The answer quickly made itself cl--Nope, no answer. There was simply a familiar face. One Akemi had seen in her dreams and shed some amount of sweat and tears with. "Oh, uh...Kath. Fancy seeing you here!" She jogged on over to where the other teenager was, with the oddly large package atop the beach bed.
Akemi stopped when she was right next to her. She was untying the package, so she should probably wait for her to finish or something. "Did you get something about an emergency too...?"

From: Amelie Saboro. To: Akemi Amaya, Katherine Jasso. Subject: URGENT.
A strange succession of events has transpired on one of the Binary Archipelago's many islands. For some reason, a signal that can't be approached by digimons in any way is currently flooding the one known as Paradise Island; not even spirit users can get nearby, so is up to you two to investigate it, considering that... you're the only two humans not linked to them at my disposal, and I really want to know what's happening.
This mission is highly confidential and important. I've prepared a package with further along the western shore of the island; you two should approach it together and open it together, okay? I don't know what's afoot, but I advise extreme caution, especially considering that your partners won't be with you.
Take care, Amelie. That had been the message that had drawn both Akemi and Katherine to the so-called Paradise Island; the package's position was pretty obvious, considering the beach beds near it. It was wrapped with plain paper, and once unwrapped a not-so-small card with the inscription 'To Akemi and Katherine' in the front could be seen alongside what seemed like... a plain cube, more or less of the size than a coconut.
If turned, the card had the following message.
Hey~! I hope you two are doing pretty well on this beautiful day. I have a confession to make.
I lied.
There's no secret mission, no force field, nothing of that pretty ridiculous sounding lie (I know I'm bad at it, no need to comment about it). But~! The flip-side is that there are a lot of way more interesting things inside this small cube! Among them: —At least three form-fitting swimsuits for each of you. How do I know your measurements? That's a good question. That I'm not gonna answer. —Six different flavors of bentos, prepared by yours truly! Fish, meat, chicken, vegetables. Up to you two to pick the one that fits your taste! —Clothes a bit more adequate for the occasion. Katherine may be an aspiring fashion designer, but her sense of when to wear what is pretty off! This may help a bit. —More drinks! Of all varieties. —Two scuba kits. —Sunblock. Make sure to apply it; it's pretty sunny today. —And a lot more stuff I probably forgot about. I kinda stuffed that thing with everything that I thought would come in handy. Can't quite recall everything from the top of my head! —Oh! And two hats. Those are important.
Happy Valentine's! Hope you have a beautiful day!
PS: Oh, right! I forgot; the Infini-Store's password is "Girls can't love girls". You two have to say that loud and clear at the same time while holding hands and the thing should open. And no, I'm not joking.
PS2: My own Valentine's date is in Whitewater, so once you're done (if you're done today, that is), and want to hang out or something, pay me visit! I'll be more than happy to hear how things went!
Amelie ♡

While Katherine tried to open the package, the sound of an extremely familiar voice got to her ears.
“Akemi.” She just stared at the hatted girl for a second or two, before actually realizing how much of a blessing was to see her. “You’re okay. I was worried about you. I tried reaching you through your D-Terminal the past few days but I had no luck.” She was about to inquire further in her friend’s status. However, her question regarding the mission they had been sent to fulfill made her realize it was probably for the best to finish that opening.
“I did.” Katherine nodded immediately. So Akemi was joining her on this. That was… great. Her green eyes went back into the package as she finished the untying.
The Spaniard immediately recognized the item that was inside the package. That was one of the cubes Amelie used to store items herself. What could be in it? Of course, maybe the not-so-small card could provide some info about this. “It says it’s for us.” She looked at Akemi for a second, so they could read it together. Her eyes widened up when she read how it blatantly stated that Amelie had lied. In any case, she went on reading.
“H-Hey… that’s not true.” Katherine muttered. She knew what she had to wear for a beach day, she just never knew she was going into one!
A light-pink blush appeared in the teenager's cheeks upon reading the last part. Wait! It was… Valentines? When she left the Human World last time it was November. Was it possible so much time had gone by, inside of this world? Gosh, she didn’t even know anymore. Then, the thought that this was a date came to her head. Valentine is that thing you spent with your romantic interest, isn’t it? What? With… Akemi? Oh god. Now she was blushing a lot more.
Why had Amelie settled something like this? Did she think she and Akemi could…? Oh gosh, could they? As always, Katherine's head was flooded with all kinds of thoughts. One of these being that she had lots of stuff to do, she couldn’t spend a whole day relaxing on a beach when…--Her train of thoughts was abruptly interrupted and her mind just went silent. The reason? she was now staring at Akemi’s eyes. She didn’t want to think about leaving anymore. Actually, she didn't want to think about anything else.
“S-Should we… open this, then?” She asked, looking at the cube. Welp, where did that come from? Wasn’t she thinking about leaving just before? Not anymore.
Those eyes were very pretty.

"Yeah, um...It's a bit of a long story. Sorry about that." It was the least that Akemi could offer when it came to her status over the last few days. It was nice to see that Katherine otherwise seemed well. And a bit of a relief that she was joining her on what had seemed to be an increasingly contrived request.
Upon actually getting close, Akemi recognized the item. "Hey, I have one of these!" An infini-store. Perfect for all of your miscellaneous garbage that you pick up along your travels that you think might be of value. As well as some media for if you're bored on the Trailmon ride.
The contents of the package were outlined in this note that conveniently had a confession from Amy that she had, in fact, pulled a fast one on them! She didn't know Kath wanted to be a fashion designer. "...That sounds pretty neat. Um..." The realization slowly hit her, and kind of knocked her train of thought to the obvious question lingering in the air.
Was this a date?
Oh SHIT was this a date? She knew it was February but she didn't see this coming in the slightest. Akemi's cheeks immediately flushed a bright red as she continued to read. None of the things here were that bad. They were actually nice amenities. Definitely something she'd bring to a date in this locale.
But it was that first PS that actually triggered something like a verbal reaction in the girl.
"The password's WHAT?!" Did she have to seriously bring that night up? Come on! She didn't say anything else for a long time, just peering around the beach. Then at Kath. She had seen her in a dream a lot. That was her best friend. The two locked eyes. "...Y-Yes. Uh. W-We probably should. Probably not every day you end up alone with someone on a pretty beach..."
Questions had been flooding her mind in quick succession. But, she had to brush those away and take a step forward. Baby steps, Amaya. Her cheeks were still a bright red, but she seemed like she wanted to continue on. Screw leaving.
Baby steps. First off, Akemi held out a hand. A shaky one, at that. It was like she was the one that had been spooked out of her mind back at Nei's old house with how trembly she was.
Assuming Kath would take the hand...
"O-on three, w-we say that...password." It was going to be a miracle if either tamer didn't die of embarrassment. "One...Two...Three, girls can't love girls."

Her green eyes going back to the storage item, Katherine started realizing she probably should get one of those too. They looked pretty convenient. At least taking her eyes off Akemi’s had helped her get out of the sort of trance she had entered looking at them. Seeing her reaction, however, made her dwell about why Amy had paired them up. Could it be that she saw… something? This train of thought would probably lead her to think about what did she think about being paired with Akemi herself, and that would only confuse her. So she decided to drop it.
“What does that mean?” Katherine tilted her head, looking at her friend. “I-I mean, I know what it means but… why is that the password?” That honestly had her a little confused. Was that even true? Of course, it wasn’t. Unless it meant like love, love girls. In any case, Akemi was right: this place was absolutely marvelous, and they should make the best of it. Katherine gave a nod to her friend and extended her hand, to find a very shaky one coming from her peer. This definitely brought some memories about that adventure back in Nei’s place.
Well, here they were. Time to give it a go. Before actually starting to utter words, the thought that this thing probably couldn’t tell if they were holding hands or not crossed her mind. However, she kept going, it was too late already anyways. “Girls can’t love girls.” Katherine said, in unison with her peer, maybe with a bit more of intensity. A couple of seconds went by, until the thing popped itself open. It worked.
Katherine let go of Akemi’s hand and stuck hers inside the glowing cube. Wow. There were all kinds of stuff there. This was a very useful item. She took out two small boxes with the words ‘swimsuits’ written over them. On the bottom side, each of them had each girl’s name. Of course, she and her peer didn’t have the same measurements. She extended Akemi her own box for her to grab, and then took out two bottles of sunblock out of the cube, placing them over the table.
While opening her own box a smile had appeared on the curly-haired girl’s face. She loved getting new clothes. “Right now, I feel the need to wear a swimsuit, this place is too pretty to be wearing... this.” She looked down for a second to her own clothing. Out of the box, she unfolded three different swimsuits and showed them to Akemi. They were three brand new, beautiful swimsuits, each of them with unique characteristics:
-The first of them was a black, one-piece swimsuit. It was rather simple, but very pretty. -The second was a much smaller red bikini with white little dots all over the design. -The third one was of an aquamarine tonality. It was also a bikini, but it was definitely bigger and covered some areas the second one didn’t even care about hiding.
“What do you think?” Katherine asked, holding the three pieces in front of her. “Which one would look better on me?” Her green eyes then went to the box Akemi had designated for herself. “You should open yours too! I want to see them.”

Uncertainty and confusion could very well be similar words that could be used to describe Akemi's feelings towards this situation right now. Why did Amy set this up? Did she see something in the two of them? Was the frenchlady apparently able to see dreams or something?
What was going on?
"I-It was something dumb I said while having tea with Amy and Sasha. Uh...Anzu's been...poking fun at me for it for the longest time since then. I-I don't know why Amy would decide to make that the password aside from that." This was almost painful to admit. Then again, who ever had an easy time recounting past embarrassment to someone?
Certainly not Akemi Amaya. She gave Katherine's hand a squeeze as the two waited for the Infini-Store to open. And so it did. While Akemi had previously been unaware it was possible to rig Infini-Stores like this? Now she knew. Something for later. She took the box offered to her, and flipped it over. "Yes, yes, absolutely. I mean, what you're wearing right now is great but...Yeah. Maybe not for a beach..."
It took Akemi a second to process that Katherine was asking her to pick out a swimsuit for her to wear. Her eyes widened. At least she -seemed- okay with the idea of going on a date here. The girl glanced down to the trio of choices, and took a quick moment to ponder.
The first, while beautiful in it's own right, was, unfortunately, kind of boring when you've seen so many others that were like it. This was a getaway, and the one-piece...The one-piece felt like something you'd find at school! This was a vacation!
The second one was less reminiscent of something you'd see at a school swim team. Akemi thought the polka-dots were cute, but she also observed how...small it was. With how little it covered, Kath might think of her as some weirdo if she picked this out. Plus, this was Kath. She deserved something decent. Something nice. Something that befitted her.
This desire for something befitting her friend was exemplified in the third one. It was aquamarine, so it stood out compared to the polka-dots. It was, much like the second, a bikini, but it left more to the imagination. So, naturally, Akemi pointed towards the third. "That one. I think aquamarine's a nice color on you, and...It also strikes a good balance b-between the second and the first one." Akemi didn't mention that she was pretty sure that if she saw Kath in the second one, she'd end up suffering a nosebleed.
With that done, Akemi decided to open her box and lay out three choices.
A simple one-piece, much like Katherine's own first choice. In contrast to hers, Akemi's was white.
A bikini, but with a twist. The bottom was a skirt! This one had less predictable choices in color. The top was black, but had white frills to accentuate the colors, presumably. The skirt on the other hand was white. On the subject of the skirt, it was particularly short, and the swimsuit itself seemed to pride itself on it being a frilled bikini.
Another one-piece, but one that would definitely show off Akemi's sides if she wore it. This one was...purple and white. A particular shade of purple, in fact. One reminiscent of a particular entity that was not here.
"Well, miss fashion designer, um...What do you think? I-I'm trusting you to prove what Amy said in that letter wrong, okay?"
As awkward as this whole thing was, it would at least be interesting to see how her friend's eye for fashion (that she just learned about) worked. Especially when it was a swimsuit. For herself.

Looking down at her clothes again, Katherine accepted her friend’s half of a compliment. “Thanks.” Her eyes trailed off to Akemi once again, giving her a tender smile. “I actually think I look like a mess these past few days… but we can talk about that later. And about that thing you said to Amelie while having tea.” She added. That had left a thought inside of her head she wanted to discuss later on. In any case, coming from such a tease like Amelie Saboro, the choosing of this password didn’t come as a surprise. Not at all.
For some reason, the fact that Akemi pointed at the swimsuit she was picking for Katherine made the green-eyed stiff a quiet laughter. She was so adorable. Besides, it also reminded her of a certain professional pointer. “A good… balance? Of what?” She tilted her head, asking her peer. She was almost sure she knew what she meant but… she wanted to hear it from her. She just did.
“Okay, I’ll use this. It’s really pretty.” She said, taking a good look at the bathing suit to then shift her gaze back at Akemi. “If I look bad in this, you’d tell me, right?”
Alright! Now it was her turn to have fun. In all honesty, there were two reasons she had Akemi pick her swimsuit for her; one of those was so she could pick hers. Now she was closely examining Akemi’s possible swimsuits, trying to make the best call.
Much like Akemi, Katherine was quick to rule out the first one. In all honesty, that only would have made sense if they had picked the one-piece for her too, so they could match. Now that it wasn’t happening, she was sure there were better options.
Like the second one, for example. That one was very pretty. Katherine just stared at it mesmerized for a couple of seconds. Why did black and white go with Akemi? That was a very interesting question, but she felt she’d look super good on this.
Regarding the third one… well, that was very pretty too, surprisingly. However, Katherine decided to rule it out because it reminded her of… oh my god, it reminded her of Anzu! The teenager started laughing loudly, imaging Akemi wearing that. “That one has the color pattern of Anzu!” She managed to say, still laughing out loud. This was probably a combination of the silly idea of a swimsuit with Anzu’s color pattern, the fact that Katherine’s laugh was super easy to trigger and the fact that Katherine considered Anzu to be the funniest digimon she had ever met.
Slowly trying to put an end to her laughter, little tears visible below her lower eyelashes, Katherine handed the second option to Akemi. “I love this. I think you’ll look beautiful.” She then tackled that mean comment Amelie had issued in her note. “She’s totally wrong.” She said, putting both hands around her waist. “I’ll let you know I have an excellent fashion sense.” She puffed up her cheeks a little bit.
But enough about that! The sun was shining and the water looked so good! Katherine picked up the infinity-store and put the discarded swimsuits back in. “I think we need to find a place where to change… Oh, there!” After a quick examination of the layout, she pointed her left index finger at a small hut, no walls, built over a wooden platform that could only be reached walking through an over-the-sea path, also made with wood. It was a beautiful sight. “Let’s go.” She said. Everything about all of that work she had to do back in the council was long forgotten. Now she just wanted to have fun. Katherine picked up one of the drinks and handed it to Akemi, while she took the other one.
One sip was enough to know this was delicious. It tasted like some sort of tropical fruit cocktail. Wait did this have alcohol? Nah... that couldn’t be, right? However, considering it was Amelie who planned this… Oh well, Katherine didn’t want to dwell too much into this. She decided to go easy on it. You know, just in case.
Walking through this small pathway to the hut was marvelous. The water looked beautiful. And the hut, once they got to it, was no exception. It was a marvelous place. It had more very-comfy-looking beach beds, a counter with all types of drinks and, most importantly… a dressing room! Just what they needed. Katherine handed Akemi the swimsuit she had picked up for her and the infinity-store. “I saw a lot of other clothes in there, just in case you want to wear something over your swimsuit for now.”
The Spaniard then took a seat at one of the beach beds. “I’ll wait for you here and then I’ll go after. If you need something, just let me know.”

"You? A mess? Nonsense! I-If anything I'm the one looking like a mess here, I just came in jeans and my favorite t-shirt!" It was actually a pretty alright t-shirt. "But...Yeah. Let's talk about that later. We've got a lot to discuss, after all..." Akemi let out a giggle that had a tinge of nervous in it.
Did she actually need to explain what she meant with the balance part, though? "I-I more mean like...um. It's pretty like the red one is, but it covers more than the red one does. H-Healthy balance between showing skin and leaving things to the imagination, right?" That felt more awkward to actually say than it should have, in truth. "Y-Yeah, of course I'd tell you! But at the same time, I don't...think you'll look bad. Because it's you."
That...might have been indicative of something. Maybe.
Anyways, onto something a tad more important. Akemi had picked out the swimsuit for her date. Now it was her turn to do so for her. What would Katherine pick? Would she prove Amy right? Or would she go above all odds and prove the frenchwoman that wasn't even here grossly incorrect? Would they go to Whitewater to brag? ...That last part was unknowable at present.
While Kath was picking, Akemi remained silent until the Spaniard began to laugh. "H-Hey, what's up?" She inquired, before Kath stated that the third one's pattern was reminiscent of Anzu. "...Oh my-...It does. That's...Who made this one? That's both hilarious and...strange!" She found herself joining Katherine in laughter! Good thing she was able to calm herself in time to receive her choice of swimwear.
So she had picked out the second one. Giving it a look over? Akemi found that it matched her usual style of blacks and whites pretty well. And the frills! They looked interesting! "I hope so. Besides, you made the choice knowing I put my trust in you. How could your sense of fashion be bad?" She reached out to pat Katherine on the shoulder in reassurance, and offered a smile to boot.
Akemi had taken her swimsuit and was looking it over, the smile still stuck on her face before Kath pointed something pretty important out. They did need a place to change. She had started to look around before her sight fell upon the hut and the path. "I was about to say the same!" A path made of wood...This truly was the definition of a tropical paradise, wasn't it?
The councilwoman had decided to take her cocktail with her to go change, and took a sip on the way there. She kind of recoiled at the taste. Oh. It had...alcohol. "...I think I can get accustomed to this. Maybe..." Akemi murmured as she took another sip. Upon seeing the hut itself, Akemi very audibly went, "Woah...I've never actually stayed in any place like this before! Kath, this is awesome!"
She actually seemed excited. Like she was being herself. A far cry from someone who seemed like she had to babysit her destructive partner. Akemi nodded swiftly a few times upon being handed the swimsuit, and made a break for the dressing room, disappearing within promptly while the Spaniard waited.
After a few minutes (what was she doing in there, anyways?), the door would open and Akemi would step out. She was barefoot, but instead of a t-shirt and jeans, was now clad in a sundress. A white one. What was with her and that color? If one were looking close enough, they could see her swimsuit under the dress, too. Well, a little bit of it.
Akemi did a little twirl! "I didn't need anything, but how do I look?" Oh, and another thing. Surprisingly? She didn't keep her hat on. Huh.

While she waited, sitting on a super comfy chair and with both legs resting over another chair, slightly higher, Katherine looked at her toes. Her toenails were actually polished in a light-blue color. It actually more-or-less matched the color of the swimsuit Akemi had picked for her. Her thoughts, however, were far from her toenails. They were all about Akemi. She looked so cute when she laughed! The green-eyed let go a big sigh, while she sipped on her cocktail a bit more.
Akemi seemed so excited to be here. She was usually quiet and not that expressive, so the few times Katherine had seen her open up to her, it felt… gosh, so damn good. It made her feel special to know Akemi trusted her enough to share those small bursts of excitement or laugher with her.
Huh. Now she wanted a hug.
Finally, the door issued a sound and the shorter teenager stepped out. Katherine stood up and walked towards her friend. Her eyes widened up. Akemi looked so… adorable. She slowly opened her mouth trying to utter some words, but… nope. Awkward staring it is. She couldn’t help it. There was a very odd feeling inside of her. Something she hadn’t quite felt before.
“W-Wait! It wouldn’t be fair if I judge looking like this.”She took the small storage cube from Akemi’s hands and promptly walked into the dressing room.
In all honesty, Katherine used most of her time in there to breathe and recover some composure. This was too weird for her. She was very used to seeing other girls and thinking they were pretty. Yes, like 'I like those boots' kind of pretty. Not like 'I want to kiss her' kind of pretty. But this time… it was different. When she saw how beautiful Akemi looked, the feelings revolving inside of her were definitely leaning to the latter idea. Ugh. What in the world was going on? Katherine tried to remain calm, she took another deep breath and focused on the task at hand.
Then, she finally stepped out. Katherine was barefoot. On her upper side, she was wearing nothing but the upper half of the aquamarine swimsuit Akemi had picked for her. Below her waist, she had a pink beach wrap, long enough to reach her ankles. The rays of the sun made it pretty transparent, so it was pretty clear she was wearing the lower part of her bikini down there. She didn’t dwell on asking how she looked. She needed to give Akemi her answer first.
“I think you look gorgeous.” She said. See? That wasn’t that hard. She could totally do this. Katherine took a deep breath and leaned against the counter, taking a big sip from her cocktail to drain out the stress. She then noticed…
“Your hat.” She uttered, blinking a couple of times. Of course, Akemi’s regular hat wasn’t at all beach-style. Katherine grabbed the infinity-store once again and pulled out two big beach hats. Amelie had mentioned those were important in her note. So why not wearing them now?
Both were pretty much the same. One had a purple ribbon wrapped around its upper side, while the ribbon on the other one was pink. She put the latter on top of the counter and slowly approached Akemi, holding the one with the purple ribbon.
“How about… this?” She said, slowly accommodating the hat on her friend’s head. While she did, her eyes couldn't help to make their way to those beautiful eyes Akemi had again. “I think hats look super…” The pace she was talking with was slowly decreasing as she got more and more distracted by looking into those brown irises. “...good on you.”
Still standing very close to Akemi, Katherine then went on to say something else. “I’m sorry if I escaped into the dressing room back there.” Maybe this was a good time for that hug she wanted, right? Her eyes, however, had kept their way down, and now they were affixed into the shorter girl’s lips. “I actually think you are the one who couldn’t…” From holding the hat on top of her friend’s head, Katherine’s arms started going down, to then start wrapping around Akemi. “…e--ver…” She was now whispering very, very slowly. “… e--ver, look bad.” Katherine’s eyes were closing. She wasn’t approximating into a hug anymore. Her lips were slowly moving towards Akemi’s, her mouth a bit open.

The thing to be cognizant about was that Akemi -was- super excited to be here. Sudden as it were? She had never actually been on a date before. With anyone. At all. So imagine her realizing the first one she had ever been on was not only with her best friend but also arranged by their boss.
Of course she'd be excited! Akemi just stood there, looking up at Katherine with the most genuine smile she could put on for her friend. It seemed that both of them were short on words, because Akemi was trying to figure out something to say, but she was...actually coming up short. There wasn't any pun intended in that.
Akemi had begun to reach her hand out towards Katherine's before the other girl had declared that it was unfair to judge her like this. So she took the Infini-Store and proceeded (or fled? The jury was out on that) into the dressing room. Okay. So it was her turn to wait for her date.
Only a few seconds passed and yet she already felt like the anticipation was going to be the death of her. She moved to take a seat at where Katherine was sitting just before, awaiting her friend to conclude her business in the room and emerge. It was a nice time as any to take a breather. Or two. Or several. Holy crap, was she actually doing this? These feelings she was experiencing right now, while not necessarily new? Never were they this...strong.
Keep it together. Just keep it together. You've got this.
The moment when Katherine had stepped out finally came, and when she did, Akemi had to take a few moments. A few to get a good look at her (and blush, seriously, how could someone end up looking so gorgeous? So...simply great?) Another few to rise. And another few to walk over towards her, slowly.
Katherine gave her answer while she was walking. Huh, I look...gorgeous? It shouldn't just be me, then. It had been impossible for Akemi to formulate words at the sight. Yet, in time, she was inevitably able to speak.
"R-Really? You're not that bad, yourself. Dare I say, you're just as gorgeous as I might be. If not, maybe more, Katherine." Her ha-- Oh. "...It didn't go that well with the dress. Um...I was hoping you'd pick the hats out of the store."
But the hats looked the same. Huh. Akemi remained still to allow Katherine to gingerly place the hat on her head. The girl listened to the Spaniard's speech slow down, gradually. A blush began to creep onto Akemi's cheeks as Katherine appeared to be going for a hug. That? That was something she was ready to return, but it quickly became apparent that she was going for more than that. "Funny...I think you can make anything look great. No matter how bad."
This was something that Akemi had sort of...seen/done in a dream. Yet it was about to happen now. Perhaps there was a time to go for it. A time to take chances. Akemi got on her tippy toes and went to kiss Katherine. Right on the lips. Would she wake up now? Was this a dream?
Time to find out.

There were many things that were impossible for Katherine to perceive right now. Akemi leaning forward to actually reciprocate that kiss and the words she had uttered before were on this list. It was as if she was hypnotized. Her eyes were closed already and she only wanted to get closer and closer to those beautiful lips.
Right before they made contact, Katherine was able to feel Akemi’s warm breathing in front of her. This was a realization of how close they were to this actually happening. Like if she had been pulled, that brought her back to reality.
What in the world was she doing!?
Immediately opening her eyes, she managed to move her face out of the way before the two set of lips actually found each other. It had been so close, Katherine’s cheek even skimmed with Akemi’s when she moved her head to the side. One of her arms was already around her friend’s shoulder, so she just had to bring the other one around and finally wrap them around Akemi, to give her a tender hug. Unavoidably, this made the hat she had just put on Akemi’s head fall to the floor. Very smart, Jasso.
There was no way Akemi hadn’t noticed what she was about to do, right? No… that was completely unrealistic. She was so embarrassed. What was she thinking? She wasn’t thinking. That wasn’t her. When she was around Akemi, she stopped doing one of the few things she actually was good at: thinking. What had gotten into her? Why did she have these… instincts? No…they were… feelings?
During all of this panicking and rambling inside her head, Akemi could probably feel Katherine was shaking a bit. The teenager decided to break the silence before this turned any weirder than it had been. Would she be able to say something that wasn’t super awkward?
“I know it hasn’t been that long since we saw each other, but… I really missed you.” For Katherine, this was like a small test she passed. That was actually 100% true. She lately had the feeling she wanted to be with Akemi more often. Okay, maybe a lot more often.
Slowly, Katherine began to process what she had just done inside her head. Would Akemi hate her for that? Oh, gosh. That was so wrong! She would have to apologize for that. But it’d have to be later. Right now, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Katherine finally took a step back from her friend and let go from the hug. She immediately crouched to pick up the hat with the purple bow and put it back on the shorter girl’s head, not before shaking it a little.
“A-Anyways…!” Hopefully, they could go on with this date, even though her recently silliness, right? “There’s a lot you’ve got to tell me, right?” Katherine took Akemi’s hand and guided her to the eastern side of this hut. Much like the rest of this place, it was completely open to its surroundings. This surroundings being the beautiful, crystalline sea. This part didn't even have a roof, so the warm soon would bounce off Katherine’s white skin. Katherine took a couple of sips more of her drink and headed towards a beach bed with a parasol on top. "How's your drink? Is there something that tastes... different, in it?" Katherine was trying to not having to admit she wasn't sure how alcohol tasted like.
The green-eyed would quickly notice this beach bed was different. It was round, cozy, of a bright pink color. But, most importantly, it was a double beach bed. Katherine turned towards Akemi, putting her drink on the floor, next to the piece of furniture. She gave her a tender smile before asking. “Are you okay with sharing this with me?” They would be super close in there, but Katherine was perfectly fine with that. At least she was right now. As long as she didn’t get those weird feelings again!
Once Akemi had taken her spot on the bed, Katherine would stretch her arms and back. “This is too perfect to be real! I love this!” The whole place, the arrangements, the company. Everything was unbelievable.
“So…” Katherine would lay her back on the bed and turn towards her friend, who was right next to her. What was Katherine going to talk about? Job? The council? Their recent adventures? Nope. “… I look gorgeous?” She gave a playful smile to her peer. “I think that dress looks super cute on you." She noted, slowly passing her index and middle finger over the dress, around Akemi's legs. "I actually would love for you to model for me. I have many designs in mind that would look perfect on you.”
Then, she would move on to a more serious question. “How have you been?” She asked. “Is Anzu taking good care of you? Please, don’t get in too much trouble.”

A multitude of things occurred in the next few seconds that were quite...sobering for Akemi. They brought her out of what might have been a trance that she couldn't really explain all too well. As she felt Katherine's breath hit her lips? Everything seemed to just...speed up. Her cheek brushed against the other girl's, she found it was incredibly warm. Just...what was she doing?
Was she really going to kiss a work of art? Akemi found herself being pulled into a hug instead, a hug that she returned by wrapping her arms around Katherine and squeezing her as though her life had depended on it. ...I wasn't just hallucinating, was I? She...
Was she actually trying to kiss her too? That was an impossibility. There's...There's no way that would have happened, right? At least this wasn't a dream. This would be an exceptionally cruel one if it had been. Why did she have to do that? Why did she TRY to do that? Oh god, did Katherine actually know?
...Did she think she was some sort of pervert?
Wait, why was she shaking? "K-Kath, you okay...?" ...She wasn't doing so good, herself. That -stutter- was persistent, and it was actually kind of beginning to worry her. Was this indicative of anything? What could usually calm someone who was shaking down...? Oh.
Akemi loosened her hug a little and started to rub Katherine's back. Again, it was meant as reassurance. Much like the pats from earlier. "Me too! It's been months when it feels like mere weeks. Things aren't as...exciting as they usually are. Not without you around."
This was Akemi for 'I missed you too. A lot. I'm really glad we're here.' It wasn't because of any dreams or anything or the fact that outside of Amelie and Sasha, Katherine was the only person she knew that she felt like she could put 100% of her trust into. Someone she knew she could rely upon.
Akemi felt like she hadn't had a friend like that in the longest time. Perhaps that was part of why she valued this girl so much? She also hadn't noticed that her hat had been knocked over in that tiny bit of confusion, so she was a bit surprised that Kath had picked it up and placed it back on her head.
Where it had belonged. Forever!
"Yep! A lot. I mean, I don't know if much of it's really exciting or not, but...I figured it's worth sharing at least. I take it you've got a lot of news to share with me too?" Akemi was always one for a good story. Her drink did indeed taste different. She wasn't sure what alcohol tasted like. But she could tell the difference in it. She offered a nod towards Katherine. "I believe our benefactor has spiked the drinks with...something." A pause.
"...That sounds awful, but...really, I think Amy picked the drinks out and made sure they tasted like something we'd remember. It's okay, though. I think I like it." An acquired taste, to be sure, but one she could appreciate. Akemi noticed they were walking towards a beach bed, and she also noticed the sun suddenly being a factor within the date.
Honestly, Katherine went from a work of art to a beacon of beauty when she got out in there. At least, that's what Akemi thought. The rays of the sun danced off of her dress and made sure to dance along her skin, too. It was warm. Quite warm. "Are you kidding? Of course I would!" Akemi stated, taking her place on the beach bed with Katherine. If that wasn't an indicator that Akemi was 200% fine with this?
Then nothing else would illustrate that. "Yes, you do. You look...Hm." Think of words that apply here. Good ones. "Radiant. Stunning. I think my heart skipped a beat!" She was certain that it actually did do that when Katherine told her that -yes-, she'd love for her to model for her. That was unexpected! To the point where Akemi actually leaned over to pull the girl into a quick hug. What designs did she have in mind? She wanted to know.
She wanted to know so badly, yet...What kind of magician, especially one of fashion, shows their hand? Furthermore, a more to the point question had presented itself. How had she been? A question with answers manyfold.
"I've been...Well, I've been. As of late, I've been fine. Anzu and I got shipped from the Empyrean Skies to Terminus. After a...mishap at the Shibuya River landed us in the former. We got attacked by a Yatagaramon--one that seemed very eager to just destroy." Another pause. "Mind you, we...weren't doing anything. I was simply trying to get Anzu out of the light--it was giving her a headache. So, we spent a while trying to get out of there--which we did. With the help of a cute little red bean. Anzu herself...she's actually protecting me now. More than ever."
Eris was the only individual she had met that hailed from there. Who was any form of decent. Anyways, it was her turn to pose a question. "How are you and Jazz? Has Bastian been putting you two to work? Are things at Deeplane treating you well?" Or several.
It had been a while since she had last seen her, perhaps some slack could be cut.

It was clear Katherine hadn’t faired all too well in that small encounter back when she left the dressing room. She had gotten carried away and had ended up doing something absolutely crazy. It had felt nice, however, that Akemi had returned that hug. She loved when Akemi squeezed her tight, it made her feel so… loved, so complete. She managed to tell her peer she was okay, and just a little nervous to be there with her. Luckily, that would have been enough to drop the topic on why was her body going completely nuts in that small breach of time.
Again, she would have to live with the fact that she had almost kissed Akemi on her lips and she had probably noticed and thought Katherine was a crazy girl that had just tried to kiss another one. She would have to live with that for the rest of this day and maybe even further. It was what it was, in the end. She had paid the price for her mistake.
As of right now? That thing was seemingly in the past, and the topic regarding their drinks had been tackled. At first, Katherine’s eyes widened up upon hearing her friend’s words. Oh my god, what could she possibly mean by 'something'? Then, she only started laughing. “It did sound awful!” Some laughter could be found in between her words. “That was so funny.” She then blinked twice as if she had remembered something. Of course, this was Amy they were talking about. The girl who had made her try alcohol for the first time at her birthday party, a while ago. This meant: of course it was alcohol.
“Yes, now that you mention it, it does taste good.” What could she say? she had acquired some sort of liking to this drink. However, she couldn’t help but feel she was just part of a bigger plan of the leader of the council.
Now, Akemi had taken a spot in the beach bed alongside Katherine. This meant they were close. Very close. And she liked that a lot. They were laying over the beach bed on their sides, facing each other.
What she wasn’t prepared for, was Akemi praising her that much. She could almost feel how the blushing was starting to make a presence around her cheeks and all over her face. “Okay… I… wasn't prepared for hearing that.” Listening to that voice say those things to her, was making her melt inside. She lowered her gaze, very flustered. She knew she shouldn’t have asked that if it was going to make her end up like this but… at the same time, it felt very good.
She couldn’t tell Akemi anything different, though. “I think you look so pretty.” Her eyes went back at Akemi for a second, and then escaped again. “It’s actually hard to not look at you. And at the same time… it makes me so nervous to do it.” She confessed.
Could this get even better? This day kept making that question pop inside her head and it complied to answering it every time too. Always with a ‘yes’. A proof of this was that now Akemi had brought both arms around Katherine, hugging her. “Is that a… yes?” She asked. Akemi hadn’t actually given a spoken response to Katherine’s suggestion about the shorter girl modeling for her, so Katherine had to know.
About it being just a 'quick hug'? Maybe not. If Akemi tried to break the hug, she would find that, while she told her all of this story about the Empyrean Skies, Katherine had wrapped her arms around Akemi’s hips, pulling her closer, and not letting go of her. Again, as pretty much everything Katherine had done today, this was just her desire of having Akemi close to her acting and definitely not her brain thinking. If Akemi didn’t ask her to take distance, she would remain like this, making them even closer. She had absolutely nothing against this.
Nothing said they couldn’t chat while cuddling, right? Katherine then went on to reply to Akemi’s tale. She found somewhat funny how Akemi tried to justify her near-death experiences saying ‘they weren’t doing anything’, and at the same time it made her worried to know she was going around finding angry Yagataramons that want to destroy thing or people! Even if Katherine didn’t know what those were.
There was a good thing to all of this, though. Katherine let go a sigh of relief. “I’m at least happy Anzu is taking care of you. I know she’s super strong but… Be careful okay? Otherwise, you’re going to make me stay at your side like this all the time, so you can’t get in trouble.”
The next sigh Katherine released, though, was one of worriedness. “I’m a bit worried about Jazz. She hasn’t come back to being a Lopmon. I think something has her very frustrated and doesn’t allow her to just… relax, and go back to rookie stage. Other than that, Bastian, Jazz, and I are working into getting in Terminus to recover our gems. Regarding the council, Am-“ Katherine interrupted herself. She immediately changed the subject, probably not even giving Akemi to reply to what she had just said. It wasn’t like it mattered much, in all honesty, she didn’t feel much like talking about work.
The reason Katherine interrupted herself mid-sentence was that, being about to mention Amelie, she remembered something that was mentioned earlier today. Something that made her… sad.
She had to ask. She couldn’t help it.
“… But! I don’t want to talk about work now.” That was her way of transitioning from one subject to the question she wanted to bring into the table. “You… ummm… you told Amy and Sasha that… ehmm… ” Her hands, still at Akemi’s waist, separated from her skin, hovering a little.
“… girls can’t love girls, huh?”
Granted, that was a terrible transition. However, she just wanted to know.
Ugh. Why was she even asking something like this? It was very likely the answer was going to hurt.

Both girls did not handle that well. That much was evident. Akemi felt like she had messed up. Spectacularly, but still. But, at the same time? It felt...nice to know that Kath was okay. It felt like she had a hand in that, truly. Almost made her forget that it had really seemed like they both were about to kiss each other.
On another, much more humorous note? Akemi cracked a smile at Kath's laughter. Seems she was picking up Anzu's ability to drive the girl to have a giggle over seemingly mundane sayings. Or thing! Though, this was far from mundane, it was the accusation of Amy spiking their drinks with some alcohol stuff or something! The fact they had fallen for this was merely another facet of whatever kooky plan the frenchlady cooked up that involved bringing them here and putting them on a date with each other. "It's...Well, it's slightly hard to drink it, if that makes sense. Then again, I've...never had alcohol before. I think it's alcohol. Like I said, something I can get used to, but...woah."
There was a small hope that she wouldn't get too attached to the drink, but what could go wrong if she did? Once she had taken her spot on the beach bed (something that was gratuitously...close to the Spaniard) and answered Katherine's question, Akemi found that she had managed to flatter her!
"So, you're telling me that you weren't ready for truth?" She gave a smirk that one could definitely interpret as coy. Was that the right kind of thing to be doing here? Nobody could actually answer that. Akemi had never been on a date. But she was definitely going to give this one her all.
Akemi tilted her head. She was hard to look at? Well, so was Katherine. Every time she looked at the spaniard, she felt her face grow red and she had to turn away. So, maybe they were on a similar page here. Yet, with Akemi... "...What if...I want you to look at me? What if I'm okay with it? Um...I-I feel nervous looking at you too but...I feel like I'm staring at a work of art when I do." She admitted. The girl wondered how her words were truly making Kath feel. Genuine as they were, she still didn't know exactly what the other girl was thinking.
So, it was a shot in the dark. "Of course it's a yes! I just...Um. I was really happy you'd want me to do that, really..." Katherine, meanwhile, had singlehandedly turned what was meant to be a quick hug into a longer one than Akemi had intended. Did she mind? That was a tough question, but to cut some fat off? No, she didn't. The spaniard had successfully hooked her arms around Akemi's hips while she told her her story.
This was familiar, somewhat. Like when Kath was clinging to Akemi for dear life back at Nei's mansion, but with much less...horror involved. The same warmth she had felt back then was there, if not stronger now, partially due to the sun and partially due to Akemi's own feelings. No horror or fear whatsoever. This was just relaxing. So why did Akemi feel so nervous being so close to Katherine?
"I'm happy too. It's...strange. She went from being kind of aloof and a bit of a jerk to actually caring about me with almost...no push from anyone." Of course, the girl noting that she should at least try to stay safe struck a chord. "I'm trying, but trouble seems to find me anyway. I wasn't...kidding when I said that we weren't doing anything when that Yatagaramon attacked us. We were just trying to find a way down from the clouds..." A pause. "...I don't know if I'd mind you being near me like this all the time, though. So it's...tempting."
Yet, ultimately, she didn't want to worry Kath. She...really didn't deserve to feel that way because of Akemi's actions. "...I'm sorry, I'll try staying out of trouble a bit more, okay?" Akemi gave that apology while looking away from Kath, though that sigh, that worried sigh? That got her to look right at her again. Right into her eyes.
"She's...still stuck as a ChoHakkaimon? That's...a lot of things at once. I don't know if that's good for her at all, but Anzu stays as Mephistomon as often as she can, so it can't be that bad...Yet, what's keeping her stuck? What's stressing her out in life to the point where she can't...calm down?" At least her tale with the gems was going well. With Bastian found, they had a very valuable source of information to make getting into Terminus all the easier.
Yet, that was the end of the work-related talk. Akemi gulped nervously as Katherine had asked about that horrific blunder that was the tea party. Oh god, why did she have to ask that? At least she was still holdi-...Nope. No hands on her waist. It was just her. Akemi remained woefully silent for more than a few seconds, the question hanging in the air.
Girls can't love girls, huh?
"I just...sort of thought that that was impossible. It's kind of stupid, looking at it now. I mean, the comment itself and the thoughts behind it were dumb and...I kind of wish I could take that stuff back now. I-I mean, I'm on a date with a girl right now and...I think I'm learning a truth." Yes, an absolute truth to a phrase that had brought quite a bit of embarrassment back when it was originally said.
A phrase that had brought just as much embarrassment to Akemi when it was repeated no less than three times on this very date. "The...The truth is, K-Kath, the idea that girls can't love girls is f-false. I know this because I'm pretty sure I'm discovering that right now. Because I think that I'm...falling in love with a girl right now."
What a rather precarious development.
