The Hand of Peace [Plot Case]

Post by Toki Akiyama on Mar 7, 2019 23:02:45 GMT
With the recent government call for this organization called DATS to be reinstated, Toki figured he should let his voice be heard in regards to this situation. While he absolutely understood their intentions, he felt that there were things that needed to be addressed. Forcing Digimon who are causing a ruckus back to the Digital World is all fine and dandy, but tamers and definitely spirit users can't really have that happen given their links to their Digimon and spirits. It'd be like tearing families apart and in the case of spirit wielders likely impossible to even do. Digimon were beings of great strength and could cause a lot of danger, but Toki believed in peace and coexistence.
He approached the area where DATS was located with his hands in the air and away from his digivice "Hello? I'm here to speak with someone. Anyone. I'm offering myself up peacefully so we could talk this out. Sorry if this is very sudden or even confusing, but I think I can help shed some light." he said. Toki's warm smile persisted even in the case of willfully turning himself in to a government agency for questioning. Now he just had to hope they didn't assume this was some kind of trap. That wouldn't be good.
He knelt down next to the entrance, removed his jacket and patted himself down to show he had no weapons or dirty tricks up his sleeve. He even slowly pushed his digivice forward and out of reach. He knew that even if they decided to take it away, it physically couldn't be too far away from him for long.

The DATS building had been refurbished somewhat over the last few months. When before it had been empty and derelict, it had been fixed up and restored to its former glory, which was pretty much that of an ordinary looking building just like many others in Central Shibuya. Yet there were no signs on it whatsoever - curious indeed for a building in the bright neon city that was Tokyo. And in front of this building, there was a tall young man asking himself up peacefully to talk this out. Very strange, strange enough so that before long, he would be met by a stern looking young woman with blonde hair and an almost militaristic black uniform, complete with red trimmings. For a moment, she stared at the young man, frowning a little with confusion. "Who are you and what do you want?" she asked eventually. Then she looked down, and saw a very strange device. It almost looked like a digivice... but a different model. That made her curious. So much that she reached into her own pocket and pulled out a model of digivice that was probably unseen for quite a long time - black and white in color. "Noir, Blanc, Realize" the woman said, and in a brief flash of light, she was joined by two digimon that looked like teenage girls, with silver hair, black and white dresses and different weapons. They were dressed something like nuns almost.
"Don't move" the agent ordered, then bent down and picked up the digivice. It was rather heavy, and even up close she couldn't tell what it was. She looked at the young man with a curious expression. "You said you're here to offer yourself up peacefully. Where's your digimon?" she asked.

Toki remained kneeling down as the DATS agent approached him. He looked over at her, his calm expression not faltering for a moment. "My name is Toki Akiyama, and I'm here to talk. Ever since hearing of your organization and what its goals are, I've wanted to throw in my thoughts and opinions as someone who has experience...on the other side, as it were. There's so much about the Digital World that I want to tell you about. Whether or not it amounts to anything remains to be seen. Above all else, though, know that I wish you no ill will. I just want to extend my hand out in peace and friendship." he said, still respecting the agent's wishes and remaining where he was.
He raised an eyebrow at the strange digivice model. He hadn't seen that kind before. Then the agent called upon two Digimon that appeared in a flash of light. The two seemed to be alternatives to each other named Noir and Blanc. He looked over them curiously, then back at the agent. DATS themselves employ the use of Digimon...but how did they view them? As friends? Business partners? Tools? He offered them a bright smile as he bowed his head "It's nice to meet you and your friends." he said and prepared to gauge their reactions to those words.
At the agent's question, he looked around for a moment "Ah, right. I don't have a Digimon in the usual sense. How to explain..." he thought for a way to explain this in a clear and concise manner "I'm what people refer to as a Spirit User. Or Spirit Wielder. Those two names are pretty interchangeable. In my Digivice is the spirit of a Digimon that has decided to pass on its power to me. In short...when I perform a certain motion, I myself transform into a Digimon to use its abilities for whatever I might need. Be that self defense in the Digital World or protecting what I hold dear."
His shifted his posture only slightly to get comfortable. "So I suppose the question is...what do you want to do with cases like me?" he said. He gave them a serious look, though it wasn't malicious. It was an honest, serious question that he wanted to hear the answer to. "Because I have no Digimon to just...send back."

Agent Maria listened as he spoke, not saying anything until he finished. So this young man was named Toki Akiyama, and he was here to talk with them. Maria was interested, as was her partners. Yes, there was much in the digital world, they had all seen it... a while ago, when they had first met. Much had happened since then, however. And in the end, he just wanted to extend a hand in peace. Agent Maria had to make a small sigh at that, but didn't go into the reasons why just yet.
"Let's take this inside for the moment. As long as you don't try anything suspicious, we won't harm you. In fact, if you're telling the truth here, your property will be returned". Not an easy promise to make, in fact, one her superiors would disapprove, but, Agent Maria thought that acts like this should be treated with honor if their overall mission was to succeed. Those that surrendered freely and gave information should not be harmed, and Toki seemed to be offering just that.
If he accepted, Agent Maria would lead him inside the first floor of the DATS building. It would probably come as a surprise, but the lobby was completely empty. All that remained was an assortment of plastic plants and waiting chairs in front of an unoccupied reception desk, where dust had accumulated and the paint had faded. A clever ruse in her opinion, if anyone stumbled in here, they would only see an abandoned office and little more. There were of course security cameras, two on the outside and two on the inside. But little more than that. She would lock the doors to the street outside, leaving them alone for the moment.
Toki was polite enough to greet her partners, something that took Maria off guard. But the digimon smiled in return, lowering their weapons in response. "Nice to meet you too, Toki. I'm Noir, this is Blanc" the puppet nun digimon replied, once it was clear to her at least that he meant no harm.
"Please, sit down" Maria invited Toki to be seated on some of the chairs in the empty room. She would sit opposite, Blanc and Noir remaining standing. If he did so or not, Maria would look at his digivice, listening to his explanation about spirits.
What he said made her stare in disbelief. "You... turn into a digimon?" she asked, intrigued. "So... your human body... physically transforms into a digimon body? Complete with all its powers and abilities?"
By now Maria's curiosity was too fired up to be quenched. She took a moment to recompose herself, then paused for a moment to consider her decision. Doing so might be a security risk, but she had heard of these "Spirit Wielders" before, yet there was very little information available to them. She wanted to learn more.
"So this... "spirit" you turn into..." she began. "How strong is it precisely? I'm asking because... I'm considering asking you to demonstrate for me, and I'd like to know if it's worth the risk".
As to what she had planned for him, Maria would retain her policy of honor. "As long as you don't deceive us, you'll be free to leave with no repercussions" she said. "Our policy is to keep digimon and humans seperate on their own worlds, but from what I can see, you are a human, so you belong here, at least as far as I interpret things".

Toki gladly followed Maria into the building and looked around. It was a really average, if empty, office building from a bystander's point of view. A good cover to avoid drawing any kind of suspicion from just a glance. He was fine with Maria taking his digivice for the time being, especially since she promised to return it given he tells the truth. He smiled softly "Thank you. I hope what I have to say will be considered."
He was really happy that the two Digimon acknowledged his greeting and greeted him in return. The empty room felt a little eerie. Maybe some more decorations would have made it a little more comforting, but for the time being it was fine. He sat down across from Maria and relaxed a bit. The chair was comfy, at the very least.
Her reaction to his explanation was completely justified. If Toki had never heard of Spirit Wielders he would have had the exact same reaction. Disbelief, confusion, curiosity. "Body and soul. I become a Digimon with full access to his abilities and for a time, I suppose I cease to be human. But I'm still me, mentally. I have complete control of my actions. There are times where my spirit guides me and helps me, but he can't without my say so. In the end, it's all up to me to decide what to do with the abilities."
Then the scary question came. How strong his spirit was...part of him didn't want to answer truthfully, but he knew it was best to say it right now "I can reach the same power as a Mega level Digimon. And there's evidence to suggest that there's still a higher level I can achieve. I'm sorry if this is worrying, but I didn't want to lie about what we're potentially capable of." he looked serious as he spoke.
However, his usual smile returned "Though if you would like me to demonstrate, I'd be glad to. I promise you I will not do anything to harm you or your partners. I'd sooner die than hurt someone unprovoked."
Though that smile faded when she mentioned the DATS policy "And this is where we come to a disagreement. The Digital World and the Human World have been connected...somehow. And I have my doubts that this link will be severed anytime soon considering it's been around for decades...given that my dad is a tamer." he revealed. He had spoken about this with him earlier in the day. His dad warned him about going, but gave his consent if Toki believed he could make a difference, no matter how small. "But...if you'll allow me before we continue to the demonstration, I would like to speak."
He crossed his legs a bit "It's...perfectly understandable to be wary of Digimon. I don't blame you whatsoever in wanting to keep the problematic ones in the Digital World. But..." he thought about the people he had met, the friends he had made, and their Digimon and Spirit partners. "...our kinds are connected. Digimon and humans...we're all people. We all have dreams, aspirations, worries, and fears. And...our bonds can't just be severed with a snap of our fingers. People with Digimon have the potential to form incredible bonds. It goes beyond combat and fighting for them...they just want to be friends. To be with each other. The fighting...? They keep that to the Digital World and sometimes it's just for sport...though unfortunately there are things we do have to defend ourselves against. Not...just ourselves, but the very fabric of the worlds. This is bigger than we all realize."
He slowly lifted up his shirt and showed the large scar that went along his torso before lowering his shirt again "There was an attack in a region of the Digital World that threatened so much. I fought there to save my friends and the home they've made. A lot of us fought. And not all of us made it out. But that actually makes me think that separating people and Digimon is not going to end well for any of us. Sooner or later, those threats might break out over here...maybe not even fully Digimon threats, but those who look to abuse their power. If those who want to fight for peace and coexistence aren't allowed to have a chance...if all Digimon are treated as criminals...then we won't have ways to be on equal footing."
He hated having to be so grim. Though despite his warnings, he smiled once more "We're all people, despite this admittedly frightening power gap. But there are those like me who just...want the chance to befriend those of the Digital World. And it's possible. I've met Tamers that love their Digimon not as tools for battle or as pets...but as friends. Even family. There's a pure love there that shouldn't just be shattered over fear of the unknown. I know it's probably hard to take someone like me seriously, given I'm just a college student gifted with what others may see as unnatural power...but there are so many of us who will help you and your organization...but as equals. Digimon and humans were meant to meet. To protect both worlds. My experiences there shaped me into what I hope is a better person than I was before. I wouldn't trade it for anything."

Maria listened to these words. She knew that others would immediately call it an abomination of nature, for a human to transform themselves into a digimon, but from her perspective, she was somewhat fascinated. The possibilities ran through her head of what this would involve. "So you cease to be human... yet you retain full conscious control of your actions" she said, raising the side of her fist to her mouth in thought. "Blanc, Noir, do you know anything of digimon spirits?""In the digital world, they're something of legend" Noir said, looking as interested as her partner in this conversation. "Of course, we haven't encountered any in our time there, as you remember" Blanc added. Maria nodded, this was true. So spirits seemed to be something of a rarity. The questioning continued. Apparently Toki could reach the power of a Mega level with his spirits. This made Maria gasp and the Sistermons stand rigid for a moment. "Your spirit gives you that much power?" the DATS Agent asked. "And what of the lower levels? I was hoping to ask for a demonstration at something more of a spirit power like that of a rookie level, but... I think that would be better if you didn't attempt to turn Mega". She'd be open if he promised not to exceed a certain level. What Toki said next made Maria's eyes widen. "Your father was a tamer?" she repeated with disbelief. Was there something about humans with digimon that was hereditary? She wouldn't delve further with these thoughts, but, it hit something of a chord with her. She would remember that. Of course, since the conversation with Toki so far was intriguing, she patiently noted what he said. Yes, he made very valid points. Digimon were sentient beings too, in a perfect world, digimon could easily coexist with humans. But the world was not perfect. Maria was resigned to this fact, but the more Toki spoke, the more substance for her to reconsider. Those thoughts momentarily were washed away by the sight of the scar. And the story that followed, Maria felt the reason why she had become a DATS agent become more firm in her mind. When he finished, she spoke her thoughts in return. "And what of those humans that don't have digimon?" she asked. "Those that go about their daily lives, not hurting a fly, doing nothing of any sort that would justify any harm to them. Then one day all of a sudden a MetalGreymon's missile explodes near them as a result of some petty battle between two teenage rival tamers? Where's the fairness in that? The justice of that?
I understand that the relationship of humans and digimon are full of friendship and love and companionship, but how can we protect everyone in a world where they walk among us freely? What can mere humans do against Champion or Ultimate level digimon that decide they want to hurt or kill others? Do we call upon other heroic digimon to eliminate the villains and cause immense damage in urban battles? What then when the digimon decide they don't need to listen to humans anymore? That kind of world just can't work, Toki... not for everyone" She took a breath to recompose herself, then spoke softly. "You have a good heart though, and you raise good points. Ideally, yes, coexistence between humans and digimon can be possible, but... the fact of the matter is, most humans don't want coexistence with another species. We serve at the behest of the Japanese government, who was elected by the Japanese people. And neither of them want to have our country be home to mon- I mean, beings from another world. Unfortunately, that means we must seek to make all digimon return to their own world, since this world will not accept them. Even now we have to speak in secret, because public knowledge of digimon would make humanity tremble".That was the position of DATS and also Maria's justification of its mission. She was sad that she couldn't agree with Toki, in fact, deep down, she approved of his words and motives. But this problem was too complicated to resolve just now. She would wait for his reaction to that before asking for a demonstration of spirit evolution.

Toki laughed a little bit "Don't worry, I'll keep it simple and use my Rookie form whenever I get to it." he said. He felt a little bit bad since it was clear the news was slightly troubling for the trio. He listened to Maria consult Noir and Blanc about spirits "As far as I've seen, spirits have been on the rise lately. I've met other spirit wielders like myself during my time out there, though they're still fewer than tamers." he said.
"Yep, my father was a tamer. A really strong one too. He never told me about his adventures until he discovered my own involvement...at first I was angry at him for it, but...the more I think about it, he had every reason to not tell me. It's a beautiful yet dangerous world, not unlike our own." he said as he looked up at the ceiling. Toki tried his best to always seem calm and composed. He found that it made it easier for others to talk to him, something he valued greatly.
He closed his eyes for a moment as Maria spoke about those without Digimon and the potential damage it could cause in the Human World should things get out of hand. "Trust me when I say I'm against the idea of tamers battling it out in the Human World, especially in the middle of the city. The greatest of victories are the ones where no battle happens at all." he nodded to himself. "It's not fair. You're right about that. But there's another side to this as well."
He stood up slowly and stretched before he grabbed his Digivice. He wouldn't evolve just yet. For now he paced around a little "What happens when a human wants to hurt fellow humans? I know there's a power difference, but hear me out...a human will find a way to hurt someone else, powers or not. It all depends on who that person is. It's the same thing with Digimon. We can't see them all as just battle-hungry monsters who step on others for their own amusement without thinking that there are humans who do the same thing already. There are dangerous humans with the power to cause a lot of damage on their own...and there are kind-hearted humans with the same power who uses it for something more than themselves. The same philosophy, if you ask me, applies to Digimon."
At this point, he looked genuinely upset "I know how difficult it is. How unfair it all is. Have you asked yourself...how is it fair that people with barely a surface level understanding of what the Digital World is decides what's right and what's wrong? To decide who's the bad guy and who's in the right? There's...so much more to it than what's on the surface." he sat down again and composed himself. He thought for a moment "...I'm sorry if I'm just talking in circles. May I ask...what's your plan after all the Digimon are back on the other side? Will you give up Noir and Blanc to appease what those who say they know better? Or do DATS Agents get the privilege to keep their friends and loved ones? What happens if a DATS Agent goes overboard and causes collateral damage? The public would be confused and scared even more...even if they don't and keep order while the Digimon are sent back, then what? Will you post government agents 24/7 around a public train terminal? Around the river? That will only raise suspicion on what's going on. And as far as I know, Digimon don't need to take those two entrances to even get here."
He somewhat slapped himself on the side of the head and went back to smiling "I need to stop being so argumentative. I do agree with parts of what you're doing here with DATS. You just want to keep people safe. High level Digimon, when fighting, can create massive danger. Things do need to be set in place, I'm just not sure what...I'm sorry." he said.
He remembered his promise to demonstrate a Spirit Wielder's digimon form. "Ah, right! Now, let's get to that demonstration. Give me a moment." he stood up and pushed the chair gently out of the way before he held his hand out. A single strand of code surrounded his hand as he swiftly swiped it along the scanner of his digivice "Spirit...Evolution." there was a small pulse of energy as he started to digivolve. The light that surrounded his body shaped him into a slightly shorter being. A rabbit-like Digimon wearing a martial arts gi wielding metal gauntlets appeared before them "Turuiemon." he removed the gauntlets and gestured at his new form "Well, here I am. Toki Akiyama in Digimon form." he said with a happy smile. His voice was the same, if not a little higher pitched for his stature. He moved around a little bit "I'm in full control of my body and mind. This is just part of who I am now. At first I was scared that I was neither human or Digimon...that I was a faker in both regards...but eventually I came to accept myself as both. I'm a person first...spirit wielder second, and I will forever stick by that."
He sat down and kicked his feet a bit "I'm sorry if I was a little harsh. This...this isn't an easy thing to resolve, that's for sure. Strong opinions will be thrown out there, and that's okay as long as it's done civilly. You say that the world can't work like this...but the truth of the matter is, it can. I personally think all humans and digimon have the capacity to meet and form bonds with one another." he said. He sighed a bit and scratched at one of his ears as he tried to think about how he was going to say this next part "I think the problem is they've been secret for too long. This fear of the unknown is because of precisely that. They're unknown. Maybe...maybe it's finally time. We should think of a way to educate people about the Digimon. It may not lower how wary people are of them, but...maybe it'll start an understanding. And understanding is the first step to making that world, where humans and Digimon understand each other, a reality. Humans can change. Digimon can change. We just need to take a step."

Maria mulled on that. 'On the rise lately... I see, that would explain why we saw none when we were there' she thought. That also made her frown. Was there something in the digital world that was causing such an increase? Her curiosity was growing. There was much she could learn from this young man... well, she initially thought that, but a closer look made her think that he was close to her own age.
Toki confirmed that his father had adventures in the digital world and mentioned it was beautiful. By now, Maria was at ease enough to reveal a little information about herself. "I know. I've been there too" she said. "A while ago, but not long enough to have made a big reputation for myself".
She realized what she had said and shifted uncomfortably in her chair a little, realizing she may have said too much.
Then the philosophical conversation continued. Maria would listen, then counter. "For humans that want to harm other humans? Well, the solution is to make it as difficult as possible for them to obtain the means of doing so" she stated. "That's how it is in Japan, and it works. A human can kill another with broken glass or a knife or even with their own hands, true, it is difficult to prevent that, but we have become efficient at bringing those that do so to justice. A human with a gun can easily kill multiple humans, so they have been restricted here. A human with a loyal digimon partner equipped with more firepower than a modern main battle tank? How can we tolerate such things in this society?"
"If I may?" Noir interjected. Maria paused and turned to her, awaiting her input with a little apprehension. "We digimon aren't weapons alone, Maria. Don't forget that we too are sentient."
In that moment she realized she had caused offense to her partners. "You're right, I'm sorry for making that analogy" she said. She took a few breaths to gather her thoughts. Just what was the right thing to do here? Her government and her superiors stated that the right thing was to remove digimon from Earth altogether, but... was that truly right?
The next question was easier to answer. "Yes, when all digimon have been closed off from Earth, Noir and Blanc will return to the digital world as well" Maria answered. "That way, digimon will eventually be forgotten, and the world will be better for it". She said this in something of an automatic way, as though her heart really wasn't into it. It was almost as though she was reciting it.
She would not reveal more than that however, merely remaining silent in response to Toki's questions about their further plans. She was not at liberty to answer.
Next would be the demonstration. Maria, Noir and Blanc watched with amazement as the human in front of them transformed into a Turuiemon. This was more than just a simple illusion such as that from a holosuit, this was something like she had never seen before.
"You remain in full control too?" the DATS Agent asked with wonder. So, Toki was speaking the truth the whole time. She frowned as she struggled to think of what to do next. He had told the truth to her this whole time, and he had been courteous, polite, even willing to risk everything in good faith. It would be dishonorable to suddenly take him in for further questioning. Besides, Toki seemed like someone that Maria would prefer to be on good terms with.
"Be that as it may, Toki, I'm afraid it isn't up to me" was all she could say to that. Noir and Blanc glanced at their tamer curiously, was this doubt present? "I'll... think on what you've said, however, and let my superiors know of your information and... opinions".
It seemed that the outcome of this conversation had been determined. Agent Maria would stand up at this point. "You may keep your things for now, Toki, as long as you promise you won't interfere with DATS operations" she said. "I... admit I would like to speak to you again in future. This conversation has been fascinating, but I'm afraid this is not the time or place to work out this impasse. I must ask you to leave for the time being."
Maria would linger for a little while longer to politely see Toki leave the building and for him to react to what was said. "Oh, and, best make sure you return to your human form before you actually leave" she added.

Toki frowned slightly and felt that there was something deeper to all of this. It was clear that whoever is backing DATS doesn't quite understand how everything works. Though Maria seemed conflicted. Very conflicted "You've been there, though. You know Digimon aren't just monsters and rampaging beasts destroying and killing indiscriminately. They have morals and beliefs like we do. Though...I understand your worries. Any rational person would be wary of what kind of power a Digimon can wield. I don't have an easy answer to that question, but pretending it just doesn't exist is not it."
When she said that Noir and Blanc would be sent back too. "And you would be okay with that? All of you would be okay with that? Never to see one another again? You keep saying society can't allow for this, but how do you know? People at least have the right to know and the right to ask questions. You say they'll be forgotten...but they won't be. Not by those who had their loved ones just torn away from them like they never mattered in the first place."
He smiled softly "You have the right to think for yourself, you know. Just because someone's in charge doesn't mean they're right. All it takes is a single voice to speak up to make something amazing happen. That's what gave me the courage to come here today...and I hope that same courage can be passed on to you."
He hopped in place a bit and did a little shadow-boxing when she asked if he was in full control. "Yep, total control! This took some time to get used to, but I can sustain most of my forms for a long time without getting too tired." he explained.
It seemed that Toki was being let go and he bowed his head respectfully "That's all I can hope to ask from you. If there's anything you need to ask, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'll answer however I can. Knowledge is how we progress as a people, isn't it? It would be a waste to hoard it all to ourselves when the spread of it could potentially do the world some good."
With a quick flash of light, Toki's body returned to its human state and he pocketed his digivice. "I hope they're just as understanding. It will be difficult, but I'm sure we can find an answer that can make everyone happy." he would tell her how to contact him in case she needs to reach out for any reason. "I'd be more than happy to talk again in the future. If anything comes up, feel free to let me know."
He turned around and walked towards the door "I'm glad I had the chance to talk. This chance alone brings me quite a bit of peace. I promise I won't interfere. I want this to be resolved as peacefully as possible...and with as few people heartbroken as possible." he said before he stepped out of the door. If Maria watched as he left, there's a faint flicker of a blue rabbit-like Digimon. It looked like a Cherubimon, but somewhat different. It said nothing, only giving Maria, Noir, and Blanc a warm smile before fading.

Agent Maria gave a small sigh at the further conversation, but, there was little more that could be achieved in this conversation in convincing her of Toki's point of view. Yes, she understood it, but, she was not in a position to change her current views any further. Yes, she knew what he said was true in her own visits to the digital world, but any further changes in DATS was not within her power to make.
"Thank you, Toki, you've made your point for now" was her only reply to all this. She was not yet prepared to think further of the implications of sending Noir and Blanc back to the digital world, so she didn't even acknowledge that point, not for the moment. Perhaps another time.
They would soon say their farewells. Maria, Noir and Blanc gave a polite bow as Toki returned to his human form and turned to leave. "Yes, we'll contact you if we need your assistance again" Maria promised, realizing he would be a useful assistant in matters relating to spirit wielders. The flicker of the blue Cherubimon-like digimon surprised them in the end, but, afterward, there was only silence. Agent Maria said nothing as she walked foward to lock the door after Toki, then turned to her partners.
