The last thing Toki could remember was a burning pain and a surge of power before everything went dark. The reason…he was not sure. He could hear the waves gently brush against the shoreline. It was warm. Pleasant. The sun must be out, but why was he outside? A voice called out to him. Unfamiliar, but it knew his name “…Toki…Toki!” it called out. A girl’s voice? Toki opened his eyes and saw a small, white, rabbit-like creature look over him in worry “Thank goodness you’re awake! I thought something terrible happened! We were about to get a lead on the black-market spirit dealers when one of them caught on to us. You tried to spirit evolve, but they did something to your totem. The reading on your Antylamon form seems…strange. It’s several stages higher than it normally is. You shouldn’t be able to sustain this form as long as you are…” she rambled on about things he didn’t understand.
First, it amazed Toki that this strange creatures was talking at all. Second, she went on about something called Antylamon and spirits. “What are you…talking about? Who are you?” he asked innocently as he started to get up, though stops as soon as he noticed something strange. As he got up on his knees, the ground seemed much further away than it should have been. Plus, the large hands that braced against the ground were definitely not normal.
With a shocked gasp, he stood all the way up and swayed slightly from the odd balance “H-hey! What’s going on here? What’s happened to me…?” he looked over himself again. He felt his face and rubbed along the ears. What was with the rabbit theme going on here? The small creature looked even more flustered and worried “What’s wrong, Toki? It’s me, Aylin! Do you need a bit more time to wake up?” she asked. Once she realized what could be going on, she panicked “O-Oh no…what that Digimon did to you must have done something to your mind. I-It’s okay. We’ll just take this slowly. My name is Aylin…I’m a Digimon. A Lunamon, to be precise. You…you’re an Antylamon. Well, you’re a human that can turn into a lot of Digimon! You’re a spirit wielder, and that’s really awesome!” she said in attempt to make him feel better about the situation.
Toki sat down and crossed his legs as he scratched at his cheek nervously “This sounds…too surreal to be true. I lost my memories and now I’m suddenly a giant rabbit monster being talked to by…another rabbit. Are we all rabbits or something?” he asked. Despite the strange situation, Toki seemed to be taking it rather well after the initial shock. Aylin let out a laugh “No no, there’s lots of different kinds. What’s important now is that you’re okay. We’re in the Binary Archipelago. Let’s focus on getting you somewhere safe, like Whitewater. Can you walk?”
Once more, Toki stood up and got used to the long stride his new form had. “Yeah, I…I think so.” He said. Aylin looked worried as she walked alongside him “Can you return to your human self? Do you remember how?” she asked him. Toki thought about that for a moment and shook his head “I don’t really know why I’m even in this form. I know you said I’m a spirit wielder, but that doesn’t really make sense to me right now…I’m sorry. I can’t seem to turn this off…?” he said, rubbing the back of his head. “Aside from looking like a big rabbit, what else can this form do?” he asked. He took a few steps and tried jumping forward, only to launch himself at high speeds in that direction “W-whoa whoa wait!” he shouted before he slammed along the nearby hill. “Aagh…” he groaned, dazed. Aylin giggled at the poor man’s predicament “Careful. You’ve got a lot of power in that form. You’re stronger than a lot of Digimon around here.”
After that little blunder, he nodded and got back on his feet, though he seemed troubled. “Do I really need to have this much power…? I don’t want to accidentally hurt anyone. I don’t want a repeat of what happened back…” he paused, not wanting to finish the sentence.
Aylin frowned and patted his leg a bit from where she stood “The school accident, right…? I know. You told me about it before. You’re a stronger person now, Toki. And you’ve done amazing things with this power.” She said to reassure him.
Toki looked at her quizzically “I have…? I-I guess I’m glad I’m doing good things with this. I just wish I remembered exactly what…” he said. The two of them walked inland some more. Toki looked back at the ocean “This place is beautiful…are there a lot of places like this here?” he asked, hopeful.
Aylin nodded “Mhm! You’re in the Digital World. It’s a beautiful place, but…also really dangerous. But with the help of you and other humans and Digimon, it’s starting to become a better world day by day. So…thank you very much.”
Toki blushed at the praise but smiled warmly “Y-you’re welcome…?” he said as their march continued. The sands gave way to patches of grass as the duo found themselves enjoying the thrill of adventure together like nothing had changed. “Aylin, from how you talk to me…I guess we’ve been friends for a while? I just feel…comfortable talking to you. Like you’ve been through so much trying to help me. I hope I wasn’t a burden.”
Aylin smiled up at Toki “Not at all! I’ve helped you get your spirit totems so you can become stronger. I still can’t believe there’s only one left for you to find and he’ll be complete! Your spirit, that is. Speaking of, is he talking to you?”
Spirit? “No…? I don’t hear anyone…is this how I’m like this? Some kind of spirit possession?” The idea seemed odd to him, but there was a sort of comforting presence within him “I think I feel him…but it’s faint. Maybe he’s tired after what I went through?” The idea that something shared a body with him was odd. But whoever it was he felt he could trust.
Aylin nodded “Maybe…I just hope this passes soon. From Whitewater we were on our way to the Blossom Isles, as there was a rumor that some of the spirit dealer’s people were there. We were going to stop them, but while we were on the boat we got ambushed. One of the Digimon did something to you while you were spirit evolving and…after that everything went blank and we washed up here.” She explained, though the more she did the more worried she became “Maybe we should avoid Whitewater. Get some more help. This seems…too dangerous. I don’t want you to get hurt anymore, Toki.”
Toki looked down at Aylin and kneeled down to gently brush the top of her head with one of his large hands “They’re…hurting people, right? I don’t know much about this Digimon business, but if they’re hurting others then I think we should at least try to do something about it. If we leave them alone now…they might get away.”
It was kind of amazing to Aylin, that even after losing most of his memory of the Digital World that Toki still wanted to do what he thought was right. “I…you’re right! We can’t just let them get away now. And maybe if we find the Digimon that did this to you we can get your memories back!” she beamed happily and continued walking alongside Toki.
The two of them continued their journey. By the time they made it to the docks of Whitewater, many Digimon crowded them and were extremely thankful for their safety after everything that happened. To their shock, they expressed interest in attempting another voyage. Hesitant, they provided them with another ship, but they would have to go on their own this time for fear of what might happen.
Before they left, Aylin walked over to one of the workers “If we won’t make it back within a few days, send for help. We’re headed for the Blossom Isles to a cliffside monument on the southern end.” She requested. They happily obliged as the duo set sail.
Toki felt a little cramped on the boat but managed himself just fine. He flexed his fingers and felt the power coursing through his fists when he clenched it “Say I…don’t get my memories back. Will you help me figure things out again, Aylin? Who I met…how I knew them? What if they don’t want to be around me if I can’t even remember their names?”
Aylin smiled patiently at him “They’re your friends. I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to get you up to speed and get to know you again…but I know we’ll get through this. I promise.”
“…Thank you. That means a lot.” He said, returning the smile. The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful, though Toki admired the waves and the beauty. He was awestruck at what was ahead. A colorful island full of architecture not unlike medieval Japan…and the area they were going to was a small secluded island on the southern part of it. A large temple and shrine sat atop the cliff.
The two of them departed the boat once they made it to dry land. A feeling of dread hung over them both as an elegant, but loud voice rang out “You’ve come back for more, hm? Wanting to take back what was taken? Come on then, we’ll dance one more time, yes?” a Sleipmon landed in front of them, scattering the flowers around him.
Aylin’s eyes widened. This was the one that initially attacked him, but that voice, and that verbal tic “Torin?! W-what are you doing?! I thought you quit working for them after what happened in the ruins!” she called out.
Torin stomped forward “I told you, our boss doesn’t like it when we don’t perform to his standards…but he was kind enough to give me an upgrade. But enough of that, yes? Bifrost!” he shouted, firing a massive arrow of light from the bow on his arm.
Aylin flinched, but Toki stepped forward “Titan’s Stronghold!” He pounded his fists together and a dome of earth shielded the two of them from Bifrost before crumbling. Toki looked at his hands and shook his head “I don’t know what’s going on, but if beating you will get my memories back, I will. But I’d rather you just stand down.” He pleaded. Aylin looked on in confusion. Titan’s Stronghold was a different ability…not one she was used to seeing on Toki’s Antylamon form. Was it the benefit of it being at a higher stage?
Torin grinned “Oh, how I wanted this. To go toe to toe with the one with the blessings of the Sovereign. I wish we didn’t rely on such underhanded tactics before, yes? Come! Tactical Stomp!” he leaped into the air with the intent to stomp on top of Toki.
Toki crouched down and clenched his fist “Mantra Chant!” His fist collided with Torin’s hooved, but Toki’s attack won and knocked his hooves apart as Toki carried himself up and landed a heavy uppercut. As Torin was falling, Toki took a deep breath and readied a kick “Mountain Dance!” He began with a heavy kick across Torin’s jaw before stomping the ground and with the force of a landslide, shoulder-charged him. One palm raised to the heavens, one lowered to the earth…before he brought them together and slammed his palms against him. Torin cried out as he was sent crashing back to the flower fields.
He struggled to his feet “N-not bad, yes..? A shame this match must be postponed.” He kneeled down as an armored figure floated down from the temple. Toki’s head ached as memories rushed back to him.
The figure chuckled “The Siphon seems to be working. I was hoping to distract you long enough with the memory loss that I’d have time to put the finishing touches on it.” With a wave of his hand, an unbearable pressure pushed down on Toki and forced himself out of his Digimon state “You’re here for your final totem, correct? It’s not quite ready yet…but soon it will be.”
Aylin grit her teeth “Lunamon warp digivolve to…!” she leaped into the air and an armored hand grasped a long polearm from the spiraling data “Dianamon! Crescent Moon!” she swung her weapon at the figure.
The figure’s eyes glowed “Don’t you want your old friend back…?”
Aylin’s swing stopped, hands shaking “W-what are you talking about…? He is back! He’s with Toki!”
“Oh, I mean the full deal. Back to life and able to continue his quest to bring peace to the Digital World. I can make that happen. Join me.”
“T-Tsusagimon…?” she said weakly before bringing her weapon to her side. She looked over at Toki “Goodnight Moon.” She said as the moon-shaped armor on her legs shined brightly.
Toki looked up at Aylin, remembering everything “A-Aylin…? Please…don’t do…this.” He said before collapsing from the sleep-inducing effect of Goodnight Moon. What was going to happen to him now…? He got his memories back…but what happened next?
