"Uh so, I know this is interview and all, but... why is our interviewer like this?" a boy in front of me asked... only to be scolded by his bear partner quickly after.
"Tetsu, that's a bit rude..." yeah, that's a bit rude, Gryz, but that's fine you know? I got what you mean, it's OK... after all, sitting on the stage like this like it's some studio night show, complete with camera and all that... it's just a bit too surreal, and then suddenly on this big chair on the interviewer is a... well, Bakomon with Gabumon sketch on it, right? You'd be suspicious... But don't worry... it's just that I don't want people to see how I actually looked.
Fair, right?
"I guess that's fair."
You're a good boy, Tetsu. Ahem anyway... first of all, welcome to the late night interview! This time your humble writer Yuukz is hosting two budding characters, Shishidou Tetsushi and Gryz!
"That's a bit halfassed... anyway, I'm Shishidou Tetsushi, 11 years old, nice to meet you! Ah... I think I'm going to be 12 soon."
That would be around August, huh, Tetsu? "Yeah, that would be around August. I just recently become a sixth grader too!"
"And I'm Gryz, nice to meet you, yes?" the Gryzmon as usual greeted with a calm face and a raise of his arm. Both interviewee are now sitting on the sofa, trying to make themselves comfortable. Ah, Tetsu looked a bit nervous. Come to think of it, this is your first interview, right?
"W-well I think I'll be interviewed about the shelter sometimes later... but I think this would be a good practice! Granted, I'm not sure if I could do an entertaining interview, but I'll definitely try my best to not make it boring for you guys!"
That's admirable. What about you, Gryz? Is this your first interview?
"It is indeed, but I feel it's relaxing to be questioned about what I know. I love sharing my point of views and stories and if it helped people to grow, why not? Interviews are like introduction to someone, and how they viewed something, so it's like to know someone new, and I love it. It's way to spark interest on someone too."
Even if that someone is you?
"Especially if it's me. I found it a bit hard to socialize nowadays, because sometimes people have hard time approaching me. Probably because I'm a corrupted, probably because I'm higher stage, or maybe they just have no idea how to approach me, but I hope by doing this interview it'll spark some interest to just chat with me and have fun, you know?"
That's right. So, we're speaking about shelter from before, can you tell us more about it?
"Oh, oh, me, me!" Tetsu eagerly raised his arm. Of course, let's give the floor to the one whose idea brings this to reality, yeah?"
"Actually, it's... not purely just me, eheh. I got support from KIZNA too in funding, I got some sponsors who allowed me to use their products, so it's not just me. There are a lot of people who are involved and I can't list them one by one, but all I can say is, thank you very much!
So the story was... have you ever played this game called Subnautica? I'm not into marine biology as much as I am into farming and all that stuff, but... I saw interesting concept, you know? There's this base underwater, and all that... I feel it's interesting. To have a lab where the condition is rather extreme, you'd want to build your base as place where you can rest and all that... I feel it's a great concept."
Indeed, that futuristic stuff you can do in that game are indeed interesting. But that can't be just that, right?
"Yeah, see, when I first arrived in Spear of Megiddo, I happened to end on the poorer island, where the food are issue, and tribes are a bit in a pinch due to not enough medical supplies and whatnots. Of course there are vending machines like any other part of Digital World... actually where they came from anyway?"
I... don't know? They're always there. How they're powered even? Ahem, sorry, we gone off tangent.
"Oh yeah, sorry about that. Ahem, so... even if there are vending machines, without money that's useless. So I thought, hey, wouldn't a shelter be neat somehow? At first I was just saying it to Gryz, but he agreed that it's a great idea. We have no idea if we'll still go for it, but thanks to our friend Toki, we're sure that we'll go for it! We talked to the local, see how they reacted to it, whether they approve it or not, and started building the shelter!"
Can you tell us more about the shelter's alpha stage versus the actual thing that you desire?
"Oh yeah... so basically... compared to what I have in mind, currently we only have a small main building. It can host about... eh, ten adult stages or such? It's smaller, but that's fine it's beta phase after all. Honestly, it forces adult stages to devolve to child stage when getting in the shelter. Some said that this feature is a bit hard, but what can we do I guess. The idea of the shelter is temporary measure to hides away from the volcanic eruption.
The shelter currently have simple necessities such as bedrooms, some bathrooms, but... not really so equipped, and kitchen... ah there is also a living room. There are also greenhouse and communication tower. The actual shelter that I want is much bigger honestly... about ten times, with at least four greenhouses and more drones. The thermal barrier and everything else are great, but the shelter is just too small."
"If the shelter is too big then it wouldn't be shelter anymore, that'd be like a housing."
Nice follow up, Gryz. Won't someone use those shelter as a house if you're not careful with how you make it?
"Mgh... that's true too... I guess the problem is also related to how long can someone stay? We of course want them to stay comfortably, but if they keep staying there like it's their house and think it's some free housing, of course that's wrong too..."
I guess that's a mission for you to tackle!
"Yeah, I'll keep that in mind!"
So the segment about the shelter is a nice thing to talk about, let's talk about yourselves. Tetsu, it's been a year since you first came to Digital World, tell us about what difference you feel from that point to the one you feel at the present. Any changes?
"Oooh good question. When I first came to Tokyo, I felt a bit... lost you know? My accent was still so thick that people can't even understand what I'm talking about. Well I live in rural Hokkaido after all. It takes a bit of a drive to go to the city... At first I felt... 'why should I came here even?' and... all I can think was the typhoon that destroyed our family house, killed our animals and such... it was... scary. I can't help to get angry whenever I remembered that.
Back then, I just want to go home. Digital World does not feel like a home either back then... It felt like... more to a secret base? Founding a secret base, I mean... not making one. You know that feeling that you can enter there anytime, but you don't know what to do? Back then I feel it was like that. I was too... preoccupied with what happened back home... I can't really enjoy Digital World honestly, but... but... now, I felt like... I don't really want to leave either.
I made a lot of great friends here. Kazu was the first one who talked with me and tried to befriend me. And there's Sora... she's a bit eccentric, but sweet and kind. She's the first to pull me to class activities. The class in Hokkaido isn't like in Tokyo at all. At least in mine. So these two helped me acclimating myself to this slightly new culture..."
But I guess no matter how used they are with new things, seeing how you bulked up in a year would shock them.
"PFTHAHAHA, yeah! I dunno to be proud or not to say this, but I'm pretty sure I'm the strongest guy in my entire grade. It's surreal how many asked me what do I do or if I have been juicing, but nope, this is all simply because I'm too stubborn to give up on being treated like a little kid."
Well I mean I would be too if my elementary school friend appeared in front of me with body of pro bodybuilder.
"And power of one. Tetsu can lift 120kg on one time benchpress and 240kg deadlift."
That's surprising, Gryz. But I guess I should have known because that's my fault to begin with.
"Pffft, but even then I like it. It's useful to be strong, but I don't suggest anyone to train this much. Three years has passed in Digital World, and that's how my body developed. I don't grow older, but I do grow stronger. The result is this anomaly of body I guess, but hey, it's useful to gross my friends out heh, heh~ Jokes aside, Digital World has changed my opinion on lot of stuff. The world is bigger than my farm in Hokkaido. I guess I'm also slowly maturing psychologically."
So Gryz, same question, how do you feel?
"Back then I'm so against evolving into Belphemon. My image of Demon Lord class DIgimon is frankly not flattering at all. I thought I would be a scourge to the world... and that's why when I heard I would be partnered, I prayed hard to not be partnered to someone who would abuse my power... But Tetsu is a great partner. He heard me he treats me like a big brother, and honestly, with how much he's trying hard to find his place in the world sort of made me want to try my best too. At first I thought just relaxing is enough, but eventually I just enjoyed my role, and that's the most important."
So we're talking about what's different and what's now... but do you have any fears that haunt you lately? What about things that you want to be done differently?
"Let's see... I think my greatest fear is failure... I don't mean loss or something like that, but a failure that is too great for me to fix. That's why I guess I ended up being a bit obsessed in doing everything right. I know I can't please anyone, but the phrase 'well you're just a kid anyway' scared me. It made me felt everything I done so far would be trivialized. It's like I got free from jail card so easily, you know? As of things that I wish has gone differently... I think every single mistakes are what makes us... 'us'... so if I were to take that off... I don't think there will be the current me. That's why although I regret something, I don't want to redo it any other way... eh, I don't to redo it either!"
"In my case, it would be... I wished I could hold myself back when I berserked and hurt Tetsu... that... still is one of my biggest fear. Tetsu always waves it off as scars being cool, but at the same time I have raised my arm against my brother, and that's... very unfortunate. While he's alive and well, I'm afraid that if it was any bit deeper, he would be in far greater danger..."
I'm sorry to hear that, and I'm sorry to impose it upon you two. By the way, do you two took some hobbies?
"Because lately I'm getting too beefy, I kind of reduce my training time to only enough to maintain my physical fitness, but I lately took liking in reading fantasy novel and life action roleplaying. I think it'll be fun to eventually do those!"
"That would be fun indeed, I agree, Tetsu. As for me I think lately I'm into fishing and playing soft beats with drums. We've been hanging in Rosewood a lot, so if you want to come fishing with me, feel free. I need someone to talk with that enjoy this slow life as much as I do~"
Has your goal in this life changed, or have you found it?
"I think I'll just continue growing more and more. The shelter project is only one, but I want to help Digimons in this world. I might be just a mere human, but I feel I want to be someone that my friends, family and everyone could be proud of that they know of me, something like that, teehee~"
"Well as for me, I'll just watch Tetsu as he grows more and more. All I want is peace, and perhaps broadening my horizon. I don't really have any goal at the moment, but I'd love to one day make a tribal band of my own in Ys, so we can have ethnic festival or something like that, heh heh."
Alright before we end this interview, I heard your mother is currently pregnant with a younger sister, congratulations! What do you think of that?
"Of course I'll be the best big brother as I can. Admittedly, 12 years old difference is a bit too much for me, but even then I'll love her as best as I can! Some said that I did great as a big brother, so I hope that's true. By the way, my elder brother and me is about six years in age difference, so I think it'll be more shocking for him."
So for last thing, anything you want to say to anyone in general?
"So if you want to hang with us, don't be shy and just approach. As long as you're a cool guy to hang out with, we'd love to hang out with you. Please don't be heavy, and just relax. We love good challenges and good treats alike. Just a simple chat could lead us everywhere. If you have any mission that you want a boy and his bear to tackle please call us, yeah~?"
Alright, thank you Tetsu and Gryz for coming. If there are another chance I'd love to interview you two again.
