Alan would find himself swooning a bit with envy, talking to this human with the power to become a digimon. It did mean that she didn't have a digimon partner, but in an ideal world, Alan figured he would have been allowed both. He considered the world at present to be pretty dang close, in any case.
"Yeah..." Levi agreed somewhat wistfully to Amelie's comment about ranged attacks. "What you were doing looked fun. I like to tell myself that ranged and melee both have their advantages, but your stuff just felt... I dunno… better. Like, I have to hold my weapons to use them, the ref docked points for just reacting to what you were doing... that hurt. I was really really trying not to! But when the only place you can be to land a hit is near your opponent, I guess the opponent has sway over you by default..." Levi sighed, then perked up and launched into another childlike spiel. "I'm gonna work really hard, you'll see! I'm gonna join the next tournament! And so will you! And we'll meet each other in the finals that time! And I'm gonna shoot things! And cast spells! And strategically manipulate the opponent not through direct control, but through elimination of any options that would be purely beneficial to them! And- and- and- oh, I've got it! I'll learn to manipulate time too!"
"Can you learn that?" laughed Alan.
"Of course! I'll learn myself a crossbow too if I have to!"
"Now now, I think it's important that you develop your own style, too!"
"I know, I know... I just... don't wanna be at anyone's mercy... I don't wanna be TOLD I'm at anyone's mercy... if I better myself as a fighter, then I can protect you better too, Alan." The tamer couldn't help but let the Veemon climb back onto his shoulders after that. That was where Levi tended to spent most of his time.
"In any case," Alan turned back to the amicable girl they had been talking with before going off on a tangent. "I don't think I'll be running away from this one. I don't think I'll be going home until someone proves us an honorary finalist, if you catch my drift?" Alan patted Amelie's shoulder when he said that. "Win for us so we feel less bad about losing, basically! But also win for yourself! I don't know how much time until you're whisked away into the magical land of competent people, but maybe we can talk some more about other things, too, while you wait for that?" The self-deprecating joke there had simply slipped out, and Levi noticed it, frowning in a concerned manner at his tamer. All they could do was keep pushing themselves to new heights.
