Ah, the Grotto of Sorrows. Amelie herself had been to this place on a variety of occasions, even though none had been with company.
Oh, wait! She had been here with Souji in the past. Wonder what happened to the guy, though. Ever since the events of with the two cities back in the day, he had pulled out the best disappearing act the brunette had ever witnessed. Oh well; not like she could do anything about it.
Right, onto the topic at hand! Strolling through the Grotto of Sorrows; the reason? Rumor has it that there are some self-appointed Demon Lord supporters plotting against Deeplane, and obviously, that's something the girl wouldn't stand for. Kinda rude, right?
However, not everything were just reminiscing or bad news. Mostly because this was a very special trip! Very special in the sense that it was a trip done with an outsider of the team. Granted, it was an outsider that had approximately 0% chances of joining the team, but that didn't mean the journey wouldn't be exciting, anyway.
"So, why did you decide to come with me?" After all, not everyone was willing to venture to the Dark Area just to help somebody with their affairs. Place was scary or something, right? "Not like I'm not thankful or anything. Just a bit curious about the whole deal, especially since there's not a lot to be gained."
Granted, maybe this transcended the whole team issues and was just a gesture of genuine friendship. That would be nice, all things considered.

"Information is strength," Karin answered. "If we want to defeat the demon lords then we have to look for how they operate. Granted, there are difference between "official" Demon Lord act and "fans" act. Regardless, I think there are much to be gained from here."
Takamiya Karin... for once in her lifetime, she suddenly got roped into all sort of strange stuff. First she was affected by a crippling depression that made her unable to do anything... and when Freya came to her life, everything seem to move along... but at the same time, the more she got roped to her partner's misadventure, the more she felt like she's missing something... Something that doesn't feel the same without.
That's why she began to aggressively participating in Digital World's business. To regain what she believed she lost... She's very sure that it's here, in Digital World. To obtain it, she believed that he need a long time... and demon lords just tossing that plan awry... But more than that, does she really need a reason to strive for peace? Seriously? She just want to get shit done, have fun maybe, and probably get productive.
Simple,right?
Well, she wouldn't say it, but she also doesn't quite trust Amelie can do it herself... Their first meeting was not quite a positive one when it comes to the brunette's survival skill... Perhaps Karin believed that Amelie is scatterbrained, so she wanted to help... perhaps.
Not like she's going to say it!

A good reason as any, the brunette reckoned. However... she had her own thoughts regarding the reasons; mostly because it seemed so weird and out of the blue for somebody as... stiff as Karin to be so willing.
"That's true. However..." A smirk was already on the young woman's face. It was pretty obvious to observe. "I think you might have grown a little fond of me. That's okay, though! You don't have to say it out loud if you don't wanna."
Maybe that was the biggest misconception of her life, but it wouldn't be the first biggest misconception of her life, so all was good. It was quite likely that Karin had her own reasons, or that Freya had somehow roped her in this strange mission, but those theories weren't nearly as fun for her to consider, so they were discarded right away. The blonde warming up to somebody outside of her circle of friends sounded way better!
In any case, by now... the group found themselves by the entrance of the cave. "Well. This looks quite different than the last time I've been here. These markings look new." They were pretty easy to observe; diverse symbols with demonic motifs, crowned by the lust crest near the entrance made the whole place look quite... ominous.
"How do we go around this? I can make us invisible if needed, but somehow, I think that there's more to this place than mere sentries. We could also just blow the entrance up and use the distraction to sneak in. Maybe you have some ideas of your own? I'm all ears."
For now, and given that Freya was a good deal weaker than her, Amy had her companions' safety at the forefront of her mind. To say the least, she'd have been way more reckless if alone.

"Well..." Karin began, a sly smile spreading on her face "even if it's true, it's not like I'll admit it openly."
"Oh? What's this that I'm hearing? Karin-chan is being more honest with her feeling? Oneesama is very touched! Ah, what a great moment, it brings tears to my eyes!" Freya joked, pretending to wipe tears on the corner of her eyes... nonexistent one at least.
"Hmph, well I already figured out there are too many weirdos in this world that somehow still insist on wanting to be my friend despite my prickly attitude. Might as well as giving them some chance... some I said. As long as they're not damn cheeky, I'll be fine."
"Well, that's indeed better than anything~ Giving chance is a way to be open minded,"
"Let's not chatter too long however," the blonde reminded. "What do you think?"
"Ara, well... I feel like probably it's better to go invisible if you can use it multiple time, as blowing gate out of nowhere seem to be... rather ill devised? It might be common occurrence if a normal building, but I feel if it's a cult, especially one that involved with the demon lords, at least Digimons around here would be more... wary about it? Blowing it up might cause them to become more vigilant."
"......Then what would you suggest?"
"Let's see... what indeed? I guess I'm less useful in this place considering there are not much plants... but how about looking for ones that we can ask? Maybe it'll reveal to us the activity around this place."
"...Are they any around here though?"

"More than fair enough." Amelie instantly replied. If that was the game that Karin wanted to play, that was fine. The brunette had dealt with her fair share of tsunderes in the past, and Karin was certainly not the worst. Piper was at least three leagues above her!
And besides, the Floramon was undoubtedly on the good girls' team. Her help was invaluable at helping to get through the girl's icy facade. In fact, her sharp wit caused an effusive giggle to come out from Amy's mouth. "You really think you're prickly? Girl, you have no idea. You should meet my boyfriend's little sister someday. Or not, preferably; now that's one mean girl. You're hyper fine."
Not damn cheeky? It also seemed like the young woman was a novice in her perceived area of expertise! How could her behavior be seen as not cheeky? That was the question of the century for her, even if it really wouldn't be uttered.
That was a secondary concern at the moment, however. As much as she would have liked to keep on teaming up with Freya in order to tease the blonde, they were in here for... slightly more important business than that.
"Sure; I can probably increase the length of the invisibility to get as far as we need to while inside the cave. I agree that blowing up the entrance isn't a good idea, but figured that presenting the choice for completion's sake wouldn't be too bad. Regarding the plants, however...?"
Yup, typical Dark Area. No plant life could be found within like of sight. That didn't mean everything is lost, though; Amy was quite savvy regarding that, despite its outward appearance, life still clung to the harsh land. "Can you feel whether a plantlife is near or not, Freya? I know there are some species of moss that grow slightly underground to avoid most of the contaminants the air of this zone has. Maybe if you can sense them, we can get some clues regarding what's up after digging a bit."
At least for Amelie, that sounded like a plan!

"By japanese's people's standard, I'm VERY prickly," Karin answered "although if your boyfriend's sister is pricklier than me, that's a great point of concern honestly. Is she the possessive type? Or the type that is pretty much a super tsundere? Or perhaps just a sadist?"
Whichever it is, it's still very... concerning. Eh well, she's not really in mood to absolutely pry on it. Either way, it's interesting. The Ashtray got a sister that's apparently far more pricklier than her. Sounds like a recipe for disaster in one way or another.
"Then that's good. As for whether I can feel plants or not, I'll answer yes, but only if I have network to reach there... by network I mean as long as I can reach any part of my body long enough to at least get around 50 meter from there, I might can extract some information from them.
Based on level of how much information I can gather from plants, it's mushrooms, mosses, ferns and various gynospermae above mosses, herbaceous angiospermae, and finally tree angiospermae. Dicots or monocots does not bring any difference. So what I meant to say is sadly I don't think i can extract much information from mosses, but I'll try anyway. They should at least know sounds and vibration. What they can "see" however, is questionable."
"Can you force evolution from moss to ferns then?"
"Possible, but might need a lot of time."

A nod ensued. "Japanese people are too uptight; they kinda expect over a thousand percent of respect on any given encounter, regardless of its perceived formality. A bit of a drag, if you ask me! I wish they were a little more laid back, but I'm kinda the foreigner there, so it's pretty much a... 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do' type of deal."
Could things be better? For sure, but it wasn't like she had been dealt a bad hand or anything of the sort. Her position at the moment was relatively comfortable... unless it came to Piper, that is! "I honestly have no idea. Hadn't had the chance to talk with my sister-in-law all that much, but she was very explicit when conveying that she didn't like me in the slightest. She did imply something along the lines of me being behind her brother's money, but that was pretty much it. Can't say I know her or her reasons in-depth." Not like the amount of hostility would've let Amelie know her better, mind you. Chances were the two would just keep on exchanging cold expletives and staring at each other. That had been really tense!
Not like that mattered at the moment, anyway. Freya was on full commune-with-nature mode; would she be able to find enough plant life in this barren wasteland? The answer was affirmative, even if its presence wouldn't be all that helpful for their quest, it seemed. "Well, I guess we'll take any information we can get. Do your thing and let's see what we get, then move according to that. Or just... go back to the original plan, I guess?"
So, what would the Floramon find out? Apparently, the occupied section of the grotto was rather small; whoever was inside was conducting whatever they were doing near its maws, strangely enough. Furthermore, it seemed like their numbers weren't overly high for one reason or another.
Strange readings, in all honesty. They didn't quite make sense, considering the rumors that had led the trio to this place, so... who was lying, then? The rumors, or the plans? That was one tough question.

"I mean I don't mind being polite now and then, but if I have to behave like a pleasant cat every single time, that gonna cramp on my style, you know? I only act polite to someone who well deserved my politeness. If they don't, well, tough luck. If they have issue with it? I don't really care. They can complain to me, but I won't really care about that. Cats are the same. Unless you show them who's the boss, they won't really treat you as someone to be respected."
Sister-in-law? "....Are you like married or just engaged or what?" Karin seem to nitpick a bit "then again, you don't..." she looked at Amelie from top to bottom "...come off as someone who looked like a gold digger to me... but boy, doesn't that sounds like a fun time or something?"
But for some reason, Freya was holding her laughter, really hard, so much that she looked red in the face. Her shoulders shook as she tried to look away. Karin had no idea why she's laughing.... but to her obliviousness (because her memory loss), she had forgotten that she does not get along with Asher, Amelie's boyfriend, but for some reason, she got along with his sister instead.
Freya however eventually relayed the information... "This... might unlikely to be a real cult, or perhaps the real cult are hidden further deeper underground, who knows, but apparently there are very little amount of people inside. I don't sense that much activity, just someone doing who knows what near the maw..."
"...Hmmmm... how about if you try to evolve the plants?"
"A bit too suspicious sadly. And I need to be closer... so how about it, Amy-chan?"

Amelie smiled at Karin's explanation. As she had done before with Freya, she placed her hand atop Karin's head and rubbed it, making sure to not disorganize the cat ears that were integral to the blonde's look. "You're a good girl, you know? I'm sure that you managed to befriend a good deal of the people you meet unless they're irredeemable assholes or something. But then again, who wants those as friends? That'd be kinda counterproductive."
As always, Captain Obvious to the rescue! Not like that comment would hold a lot of water, especially since Karin was going as far as to ask whether she was married with her boyfriend or not. Kinda easy to answer, wasn't it! "Well~! I wouldn't call him my boyfriend if he were my husband, don't you think? Sides, I think that most girls have other things in mind at eighteen; like studying! I want to be a professional before thinking about settling down and beginning a family and that stuff. Priorities, you know? Even though... we kinda have a family already." She hummed pensively, even though she seemed positively happy at the remark. "You should meet our daughter at some point; she's a very good girl. Just like you or Freya! Except that she's small and is still learning the ropes about living and such."
Without a trace of doubt, this was Amelie being Amelie. Her spontaneity and potential to just spew nonsense seemed to be quite high at the moment, even if that was almost a trademark of hers. "I'm glad you don't think I look like a gold digger, even though... I'd like to think most of those try to hide what they are so they can lure their prey into a false sense of security, so... I'm unsure of whether that compliment is worthwhile or not. But I'll take it!"
An eyebrow was raised at Freya's sudden burst of laughter, but that was more or less consistent with the brunette's thoughts on the matter thus far. That's why, instead of on commenting about it, she focused on the task at hand. "So, a cover for the real thing? I can see it being a thing, actually. These guys probably want to be underestimated, anyway; setting a facade helps both with that and with setting sentries that don't look too conspicuous."
What they could do regarding that? It seemed like getting inside was their only choice. "Well, if you want to get closer, I can do that, even though... I'm still unsure of what you truly wanna do. Once I evolve, communication kinda gets a little harder, so I'd to hammer the plan right here if able. Are we planning to step closer so you evolve the plants? Or are we just barging in?"
Honestly, she was a bit confused regarding what they were about to do! Some clarifications wouldn't be bad.

She got patted? Karin's cat ears twitched, like a real cat. Suddenly, she put on a cat paw on her hand and booped Amelie's forehead. Looks like she can't reach, and that's only the way she could return the gesture instead. Well, with that outta the way, she decided to counter the argument.
"I don't think I have "a lot" of friend. I'm always more of quality compared to quantity sort of person, and that's fine. Plus people who likes me are weirdos who somehow really like got roasted for whatever reason," she insisted. "I don't really get what people like from what you'd call a tsundere like me. Honestly, if it's me, I'd feel that I'm a pain in the ass. Cannot be honest with my own feeling, my words always got no brake on them, I always go the most sarcastic as I could with people... aren't that just tiresome to be friends with people like me? That's why I seriously considered you guys who like hanging out with me as a weirdo."
Either way... "Well, there are some people who apparently still fond of calling their partner their boyfriend despite being married informally? So can't help but to ask. Either way looks like you adopted a child or something? A Digimon even?"
"Ara, a lady like me feels a bit complicated if you suggest that I'm a child like your daughter though Amy-chan. I mean, on one side that means I'm young, on another side... I think that means I'm childish? Oh my that won't do at all."
As for gold digger... "I mean what do you need? If the city builder is a gold digger than wow, doomed we are, seriously. You'd be hunted by everyone and at that point it's a pyramid scheme, that's not something I'd like to hear from an ally, all thing considered. So you're not a gold digger... and I hope so otherwise I might turn you in to Luminas Authority myself."
That kind of scary jokes aside...
"Yes, turning invisible might be the only way, but I don't think there's a need to evolve the plant, or even if it's needed I don't think it's plausible, unless... unless we deal with these people on the maw first, you see... Because seeing plants evolving out of sudden, it might cause some suspicions."

The reaction to Karin getting patted was, by all means and purposes, utterly hilarious. Amelie accepted the bop with a pretty big smirk on her face; who would have known? Being disgustingly tall had its benefits every now and then, especially when it came to patting good girls while keeping an advantage.
"Oh, of course you have many friends." She nodded earnestly, meaning every word she said, and then proceeded to point at herself. "See this girl? I'm worth from thirty to fifty friends depending on the day. That's more friends that what everyone has, don't you think?" Of course, that just fell straight the blonde's own 'quality > quantity' argument, but denying it had no point. After all, she was fortunate enough to have none other than Amelie as a friend!
Obvious arrogance aside, at least she could remark on the following comments. "Some people like when others are frank and straightforward; I know for sure that's a quality I appreciate. Not to say that you've been really nice with me ever since we've met. Heck, you were even formally polite at first, with the VVIP thing and all that jazz!" Only somebody blind wouldn't admit she had a point there. "And besides, don't you think that somebody that's permanently spewing compliments in your direction is kind of a liar by default? Like, when somebody displays that degree of boot licking, I usually think they're up to no good. But that's me! Maybe I am a weird, after all. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest!"
Still, the fact that Karin was pretty sharp couldn't be denied. She had hit the nail on the head with her guess. "Nah. We're still dating! He's pretty laid-back about the whole deal, and I am as well, so we're kinda not in a hurry; taking things slow and such! Even though I'd sure like for my sister-in-law to warm up a little faster to me..." The mention of their kind managed to convert those somewhat annoying thoughts into a smile, however! "Yup! She's the last member of an ancient species of digimon that had been thought to be long-extinct, even though we're not sure about the 'last' part! We've tried to find her true parents, but that has failed until now, so... either very rare or very elusive."
Whether Freya had decided to misinterpret her comment by mistake or just to tease her, that didn't matter. Amy's expression became sly for a split second. "No, no. I didn't mean it in the 'young' sense! I meant it in the sense that you all are good girls. I couldn't have asked for better traveling companions, even if I tried!"
Inevitably, the conversation's course ended in what probably was a somewhat expected place. Was the brunette a gold digger or not? The question of the century, probably. "Don't get me wrong. I really appreciate my boyfriend, but... I doubt that even if I stole all his money I could finance the construction of something like this. I'd probably need an army of gold diggers with rich significant others to be able to pay for a portion of all the money I have spent on this place. Maybe it is a pyramid scheme, after all. Never thought too much about it."
The seeds of doubt would hopefully be planted after that, as irrational as it was to fear something like that. And now that they had successfully gone through every possible topic two girls a plant could talk about while about to raid the entrance of a cultist-infested cave, it was finally time for action!
"Let's go, then! Hope you don't mind feeling slimy for a bit!" Suffice to say that Amy was already holding her D-Tector with her right hand, and had a ring of fractal code in her left hand; seconds afterward, Heraldmon occupied the place she had moments ago. From one moment to the next, the tendrils around her body extended and made contact both with Karin and Freya. Sure, the sensation was a bit... weird, to say the least, but it took them all a moment to turn completely invisible. They were free to advance now.
You're my eyes, so... do tell if you see anything suspicious. Or rather, just think about it really hard. I'm kinda not able to hear either.
Their advance was rather quick, and soon enough, the trio fund themselves right inside the cave. Just like Freya had foretold... there wasn't a lot going on right there. Just a bunch Bakemons floating from one place to another, apparently carrying various ingredients and throwing them inside a big cauldron located at the middle of the passageway.

"Depending on the day also I might have 30-50 nagging, annoying weirdo at the same time instead," Karin answered. Does that sounds a bit too mean? Nah, that's just a normal ribbing isn't it? "For more than it worth I often got pulled to my friends' misadventure... Well, I guess that's how cats usually operates. Then again, I'm a curious cat, so I might just follow for no reason at all other than curiosity."
About other person's disposition... "I'm not someone who doesn't know my place, or my role in the greater sight of thing. KIZNA benefits greatly from alliance, and immediately I just decided to treat you as VVIP that's the natural course of the thing. We can't afford to make enemies, or turning away prospect of allies in front of our eyes. Simple as that, really. Also, about someone who keep praising people all the time...
...Crowd pleasers are not a strange thing for me. I feel bootlickers are rather natural, or perhaps because I often saw that in girls circle... Pecking orders in girls group are rather severe... that is if they're extremely popular type. The bullies high and mighty girls are the worst. I tend to clash with those sort of people a lot. I don't hate it if they praised people to no end because they have confidence issue... I'd help them snap out of it though, but if they do it just to asslick someone and want to get on their good side that way simply because they want a position... That, I outright loathe."
Species... is interesting somehow. "...What 'mon anyway?"
"Come to think of it, there are flood of 'new Digimons' that appeared out of nowhere here... It's unknown where they're from, but somehow they took residences in newly formed area of Digital World," Freya commented.
"How new is new?"
"It's around the time of Spear of Megiddo and the rest."
"I see... then there are several of such Digimons already."
Well that indeed was enough to make Karin drop the topic about pyramid scheme, but boy, that was rather funny. Going after his money? If she's smart, she can potentially turn her city into goldmine for both real world and digital world purpose.
...Slimy meanwhile is rather an understatement. What on earth was that feeling? Karin honestly only could shudder and think it's a bad idea all over but thankfully... it's just brief...
...Does she need to keep touching her to transmit that telepathy thingy? Egad.
Can we separate from you? Karin tried to send telepathy. Meanwhile, as for Freya... She immediately saw the moss. she started to work on her magic... terraforming. For the meantime, she just extended the roots of the mosses to their maximum. This is to ensure that they can take more nutrients for the sake of the evolution. Plus it's not like the Bakemons would notice what happened underground, right?
Karin also described whatever happened in the room to Amelie... hope she can visualize it somehow... or is she using her eyes as substitute her eyes now?

"Ruuuuude." Amy responded right away, not missing a beat. "Misadventures sound like a fun thing to do, however. As long as they're not too tragic. If I had a bit for every interesting, yet unforeseen event I had to face in my journeys, I'd probably be rich. That'd be hella nice."
Who didn't want to be rich? Or treated like a VVIP! A smile was quick to grace the brunette's face. "For somebody who claims to be rebellious and prickly, that seems surprisingly responsible! Despite your perfectly valid reasons, I honestly think that your self-image and your true self are entirely different things. But that's a comment coming from somebody who has no idea about everything, so take it with a grain of salt."
A shrug was the natural followup to those words. True was the reason why people resorted to methods like bullying or bootlicking in order to increase their social standing was most perplexing, but that came from the point of view of somebody who didn't have to go through that kind of ordeal. How would have she been perceived? That was an interesting question, even if one that wasn't fitting for the current situation. Instead, she focused on her daughter's species. What was it?
"I have no idea, in all honesty." Talk about being frank. "Right now, she's a Pitchmon, but her whole body is black. I know that she'll become something like an eel in the future, but she hasn't evolved yet, so I've been unable to scan her. Or if my digivice will know anything about her. Fingers crossed, though!"
Could it be that she was related in some way to Sunken Elysium and Ys? Rather than a new species, she seemed to be pretty ancient, but somehow had managed to remain in hiding by now. Could that really be called new? She didn't know, but decided that was a technicality at best.
Time for talking was over, however. The group was advancing now! Given Karin's question, Amy could infer that the sensation wasn't quite... pleasant. Understandably so, in all honesty.
You'll remain invisible if you separate from me; no problem there. If you wanna 'communicate' with me, however, you gotta touch my body. I know it's not optimal, but the 'method' to enable communication through long distances is quite slimy as well. I don't recommend it, but we can try later, if you wanna!
The contrast between the girl's relatively cheery disposition and the digimon's way to distort that tone was somewhat unsettling, to say the least. But at least it wasn't very harmful. Luckily, the aberration wasn't sharing the use of Karin's eyes. That'd have been very weird, and luckily, not something she could attempt at the time. Taking a moment to observe their surroundings, the digimon ultimately 'nodded'.
You were right. This is a lounge of sorts to the real hideout, even though I'm unsure of where that place is, exactly. Have you gotten any info regarding that, Freya?

Karin just raised her hand on misadventure part "Agree to disagree? Most of the time my curiosity brings me a lot of mayhem, and honestly, misadventure is so not my type despite how curious I am. I prefer peace and bland stuff compared to crazy adventures with dangers and all that. But yes, I agree, if I got paid based on how much misadventure I have, I'll probably have a mansion enough to shelter a thousand or so cats."
It might be exaggeration, but Karin definitely looking at it in humorous way, at least it's showing on her smirk. Looks like as long as danger isn't involved, she's not minding it too much. Still, the comment about her being wrong about her image just elicit a shrug from her.
"That's what I feel I am. If you disagree, then who am I to argue with you? Everyone have their own opinion, but I still think that prickly and prickly to everyone no matter what's the situation and condition is different. Personally I'm prickly. Professionally I need to act my capacity, and that's including driving people around, be tour guide or whatever is given to me. Granted, I volunteered only because Koharu had numbers of unfinished business. My actual job is simply evacuation and security."
Freya thought about it for a bit. "Well, that's certainly interesting species. Eel though? I haven't found any eel based mons yet."
Ugh, so to communicate with Amelie they need to touch her?
"Please remind me to get Freya some telepathic ability." Karin commented
"Please give up~" Freya shot back "My species isn't attuned to mental use like that, except... well, that's for later. Anyway, it'll need a bit more time... Currently I'm letting our moss friend roots to evolve to absorb nutrients better... and now that they're done absorbing nutrients, I can evolve them... let's see what they have to say~"

Well, talk about a living oxymoron! Somebody who was super curious, yet still managed to dislike what she ran into sometimes; quite the clash! Even though that was a topic that Amelie wouldn't bring, at least for now. Instead, she decided to shrug at those words. Insisting there was probably pointless.
What there anything for them to really talk about? Probably not; the two girls had an interesting dynamic in the sense that they disagreed on a variety of topics, and both didn't look like they were about to budge on their way of thinking, but still managed to get along well. At least somewhat!
Talking about her daughter was a lot more interesting than that, anyway. "I mean. You can kinda count Seadramon, I guess? I wouldn't really call it a dragon since it's more like a sea serpent, but then again... eels and sea serpents aren't that different, right?"
Was that just a justification, or was the brunette arguing just for the sake of an argument? Hard to tell. "I just hope she grows healthy and happy. Species is the last of my concerns, really." In any case... Was touching her so disgusting? Heraldmon couldn't possibly know, even though ithad already provided with an alternative, even though that seemed like something that probably wasn't on the table. And for good reason, maybe?
It did seem that Freya needed more time to properly develop the plants she was growing. Did they have time? Absolutely.
As much as you need. We already began with this, so it's not like we're gonna change plans midway or something. How many enemies do you think we'll find?
