Mandrake looked over the Network Plains his blue eyes watching as the wind blew and made the grass wave with the direction of the breeze. He hadn't been traveling long but he was eager to find the friend he made when he was Yaamon. Despite the short time it had been it seemed far longer.
Flash Back
Mandrake groaned as he hopped along his body covered in bruises made by the other children. Just because he was a digimon that sometimes digivolved into a trouble maker they not only teased him but sometimes beat him up. Most the adults were no better as they were hateful too but at least they never beat him choosing to ignore him instead. Sometimes he didn't know what was worse but one of the adults accepted him and it was the village elder, Jijimon. He not just accepted him but raised him and began training him in the ways of magic recently. It was as if Jijimon knew Mandrake could not just be a great magician but a kind hearted digimon as well. As he hopped into Jijimon's hut the mega level digimon turned and looked down at the blue eyed Yaamon before he telepathically asked the young digimon "What happened, Mandrake? Did those kids rough you up again?"
Mandrake had been learning control of his mental abilities since Jijimon adopted him because, apparently, the mega digimon was also not just telepathic but telekinetic as well. "Yes, they did. I don't understand, Jijimon, why are they so cruel to me? I never did anything to harm them even though I could have with my telekinetic powers." Mandrake telepathically replied back.
Jijimon sighed and out loud said "The digimon of this town fear you for foolish reasons, Mandrake. I explained that to you shortly before you digivolved from Keemon. Their fear keeps them from giving you a chance and I'm sorry about that."
"I am beginning to think the only chance I'll have at having a friend about my age is a family with a child moving in." Mandrake said with a sigh.
"It's not as hopeless as you may think, Mandrake, because sometimes traveling businessmon come with their families in the summer. Though they aren't here long, maybe you can make a friend before the townsfolk make any children the traveler's have afraid to play with you with their nonsense of you being dangerous." Jijimon said before he continued "Now let me see to your injuries so you can sleep comfortably tonight."
Present
'The summer I met Lothar.' the blue eyed Impmon known as Mandrake thought fondly. 'He was an unusual Tsunomon considering he accepted me so easily. Maybe that's why we hit it off.'
Flash Back
Mandrake had caught wind of a family heading into town and if he heard right they had a child that was an in-training around his age. Since playing with the other young digimon was nipped in the bud by the other in-training, despite him being the oldest, he had hopes he could meet this unknown kid before them. Hopping as fast as he could, with uncontainable excitement in his blue eyes, he dodged around various adults. They didn't matter to him at that point since they ignored him anyway. His hops were halted when he crashed into someone close to his size and after shaking his head to clear the spots from his vision he saw who it was. It was Koromon and he wasn't alone. Koromon had parents that were both Hexeblaumon. Magical knights that fit in with all the magic digimon in this village but they spawned a nasty bully for a son and Koromon tended to lead the other children in bullying him. Like always five children accompanied Koromon, it always seemed to be five, meaning Mandrake was likely in for another beating. It always happened when Koromon gathered those five brutes with him.
"Look boys its, Mandrake. I think he may be trying to meet the new kid that just got here." Koromon smirked his compatriots, who were standing behind him, laughing. This was bad since Mandrake knew that trying to reason with them wouldn't work. It never did but he refused to act as the monster the adults pegged him to be. As the group surrounded him he closed his eyes and braced himself for the beating about to come. Yet, a few minutes later, he cracked his blue eyes open and noticed Koromon unconscious on the ground and his lackeys had fled.
"Are you alright?" an unknown voice asked from behind him causing Mandrake to turn around. He caught sight of a Tsunomon with a concerned look in his brown eyes.
'A Tsunomon with brown eyes? How unusual.' Mandrake thought as he took a better look at the Tsunomon who rescued him from a certain beating. The Tsunomon was slightly bigger than the average Tsunomon which made him look imposing to other in-training and it was not likely that he was bullied. Judging by the beating Koromon took, Tsunomon might have been a little stronger than the average Tsunomon as well. Knowing the Tsunomon was patiently waiting for an answer he said "Yes I am fine, thanks to you. Unfortunately, I'm not very popular around here."
"I think it's ridiculous for six digimon to gang up on someone just because they don't like you. Have you ever thought of trying to fight back?"
"Fighting back would just add fuel to the fire for me. Most the adults don't like me either but at least they just ignore me. I think the worst an adult has done was give me dirty looks." Mandrake said with a sigh the Tsunomon looking at him with confusion before Mandrake explained how Jijimon had taken him in when he was a fresh digimon called Keemon and how it led to his current situation.
"All that senseless hate because you are of a digivolution line that has a bad reputation. Did they stop to think that if they treated you better you might have a higher chance to become the kind digimon this Jijimon is trying to raise you to be." the Tsunomon said with rage in his brown eyes.
"Unfortunately, hate and fear causes those with sensible minds to do foolish things but I don't hate them."
"You don't? You know you have every right."
"I know I have every right but if I give into hate I would be no better than the monster they fear I'll become." Mandrake said. It seemed he was wise for his years and probably the only kid the Tsunomon would want to hang out with.
"Forget what they think of you. I'll hang out with you while my family is here this summer. By the way, my name is Lothar."
"A pleasure to meet you, Lothar. My name is Mandrake."

As Mandrake finished thinking of that summer another thought came to mind as he started walking 'One Lothar, we shall meet again my friend.'
