A Cryptic Addendum [Curls]

Lingering around the exchange they had during their breakfast could not be beneficial at all right now. There was laughter, theories, and many topics scrapped during such, but that was all in the past now. After all, everything regarding the cave could be summarized in what both Amy and Jazz had concluded: They’ll have to go there and see. And that was actually the case, after all.
Amelie was, after all, the right person to discuss all of these extremely deep topics. The Frenchwoman was probably one of the smartest people Katherine knew, and one of the few that could keep up with the pace and topics of these types of theories. They had a big challenge ahead and Jazz had posited an interesting theory about this, one that Amy had fed with a more than interesting tangent. Whatever could come their way now, Katherine was more than sure she had the right team to face this.
Looking through the window while their vehicle overflew the Binary Archipelago, Katherine just let herself enjoy the view. Eventually, the fact that they had to make a landing was evident and Amy would ask for help with finding the island. It was hard to identify the island by its shape from above, considering Katherine and Jazz had only entered directly and teleported into it last time. The reason why they didn’t teleport this time? Probably because they wanted to see if they could find any clues on the way to it and landing, which was honestly better! I mean, look at that view!
In any case, said identification process shouldn’t be needed, since they had technology! Jazz excitedly leaped to the back seat to look for her D-Terminal. There, she opened up a map and her GPS to try and find herself on it. After less than a minute, the bunny delivered instructions. “We should take a slight turn to the left. Then, if we keep the same speed, you should start descending in around 3 minutes, Shisei. You will see a big, circle-ish-shaped island. That is Joy Island.” The bunny leaped back to the front to get the screen of her D-Terminal close to their driver and Katherine, just in case Amy wanted to see the route herself. If not? Katherine and Jazz had her covered. They should probably reach the island in no time. Who knew what they would find in there after landing.
“… No dream is futile.” Katherine muttered while she looked down below at the Archipelago where one of their most incredible adventures so far had taken place, a faint smile forming on her lips as she remembered Inra’s words during that epic race. Those words had stayed with her for so long and would come to mind each time she remembered that amazing day.

As things were, the trip would end fairly quickly; in part to Jazz’s instructions, the so-called Joy Island was in sight fairly quickly. That was a fairly good thing!
Not as good as the name making Amy shudder, though. Why could that be? She could only wonder. Joy island was a mysterious location, and the events that could unfold there were just endless. The brunette searched for an appropriate place and proceeded to park at the island’s shore. Once ashore, everyone would presumably get out of the car before the vehicle was safely stored.
“Okay, so… we’re looking for a collapsed cave of sorts, aren’t we?” The young woman inquired, a bit unsure about it herself. She looked at the horizon as a chill ran through her spine; it was hard to say why, but it was at that moment Amy knew that things… would only get weirder from now on.
“Was the sky always yellow?” She asked in puzzlement, looking above just to observe the fact. What had been a clear blue was now a sickly-looking yellow, even though, for some reason… it always felt that way. It was a strange sensation to describe, just as how light somehow seemed somberer. The ocean beside them had been victim of that sudden alteration as well; what had been clear blue waves were now a murky tide, alternating between dark blue and a greenish hue.
The fact that things had taken a turn for the stranger felt unnatural, but also almost as if no change whatsoever had happened, for the lack of a better description. A most puzzling development; would Katherine and Jazz for the shock of such a sudden change, or just flow with the uncanny feeling of these developments being fairly normal? No way to know.
“Do you think we should go to that place?” The brunette then proceeded to point at a stone structure of dubious form that emerged upwards. Was it a castle? A manor? Maybe even… a cave? It looked like the three of them, yet like none of those at the same time. It was vexing, yet strangely relaxing how the cryptic architecture of the island seemed to shift whimsically from one form to the next. Maybe by the design of a hidden hand?
“Or, maybe we should go back?” It was funny; as those words were uttered, Amelie found herself unconsciously making a single step forward. She seemed calm, albeit deep in thought. “Whatever we end up doing, I feel like this place’s a lot more than what it seems. For whatever that much is worth.”
Purposefully vague, or incidentally wise statement? It was hard to know. “I don’t know if we’ll leave with answers or even more questions. But I can’t deny that there’s something about this place that’s a bit… alluring, maybe? It’s almost as if I had fond memories of it, or something.”
Then again, she had, if this was still Joy Island. But, hopefully, Katherine and Jazz would catch her drift. “I’m unsure. What do you think?” Now, that one was a bit of a dicey statement; Amelie could be a lot of things, but indecisive was definitely not one of them. Except for this time, maybe; yet, how maybe that was a bit of a permitted behavior, given how this place was slowly managing to creep her out. Maybe she hadn’t realized it yet? Maybe the shock of such a sudden had yet to exert its pressure. Maybe the allure exuded by their potential destination was doing a good job at suppressing those emotions.
All things considered, it was probably a bit of all those reasons.

“I guess we are.” As she got out of the car and felt her shoes sink into the slightly yellow-ish sand, Katherine addressed Amy’s question. “The last time I believe we were able to portal to the actual place where the debris was. Or, at least, very close to it. Not that we were able to find a lot there.”
Only when the sky’s tonality was pointed out, Jazz considered looking up above. “Oh. I… don’t think so. Then again, we couldn’t even see the sky when we entered the first time. It was too foggy.”
The bunny’s pause allowed Katherine to contribute with her own piece of insight. Which… dubitative as it was, may help a little bit. “I believe the sky did turn out kind of yellow when that tower with the counter popped out from the middle of the island.”
“Could that structure be related to it in any way?” Jazz wondered, looking at the place in the horizon Amelie had just mentioned.
“Beats me. I don’t even know if the things that happened on the island were all caused by the ones hosting the race.” The Spaniard let out a long sigh. Why was everything that surrounded this island questions and unsureness?
Even more, Katherine and Jazz were not alien to the sensation Amelie was experimenting. Like… weird things were not weird. Like… someone or something was forcing them to feel comfortable here and keep going no matter what. That was probably why Amelie’s statement about going back felt so… strange. The green-eyed just tilted her head. “Going back where?” Was there anywhere to go back, anyway? In the end, they have come here to play, right?
Jazz and Katherine both intentionally walked forward, facing what should be the forest between them and their destination. “I one-hundred-percent agree.” The raven-haired girl nodded, taking her digivice out of the pocket of her jeans and glaring at the screen. “I’m not sure if there’s something pushing me forward or I’m just expectant at the slight possibility we find any type of answer here. But I want to keep going.” A pause. “Let’s… just stay together okay?” The way this island was making her feel was scary, and, if they were going to continue with this, they would need each other’s support.
“It’ll be hard to find the specific place where the cave was located, so I would suggest going to that structure over there and keep our eyes open. I remember the island not being huge, so we may stumble into whatever is left of the cave on our way there.” Jazz posited a plan that seemed like it could work. Did anyone have a better idea? If not, they should get going.

“That makes sense.” The duo’s experiences regarding this particular event was a pretty big question mark for Amy, at least when it came to little details like this one; they could either be forgotten or outright missed, and no one would know better.
The sky’s newer, and admittedly fancier coloration could be attributed to a multitude of factors, yet that detail didn’t seem to bother the brunette a whole lot. Sure, it could be taken as weird, but it was just the harmless kind of weird so… why not? Some weird never killed anyone, right? She proceeded to nod at Katherine and Jazz. “Oh well. At least that’s even more indication to check whatever’s happening in that place. I feel that they’re related somehow, so maybe with some luck, we’ll manage to get at least some answers.”
She had to agree there, though. “I wish I knew why everything about this place just feels… off, yet in a strange way, also feels oddly comforting. I can’t say I like it but… I can’t say the opposite either. Quite the headache, isn’t it?”
Somehow, the answer the young adult got was exactly the one she expected, almost to the point where, in retrospect, the question had been a mere, yet unneeded formality. “I wish I knew, honestly. Somehow, I feel like just forgetting this whole deal would be for the better, but then that feeling subsides fairly quickly. It's very quaint.”
Katherine had a point there. It would probably for the best if they tried to stay together and not separate, no matter the reason. “Right with you there. I doubt we’re gonna get anything done if we split, anyway. Not like it looks like we need to, anyway.”
At least as far as she knew, there was a single entrance, so unless something weird happened, there was simply no need for them to separate. Thus, the group walked right towards the entrance of the ever-shifting structure by the island’s center. Could it be even called an entrance? It was hard to say; yet, at some point, the unequivocal feeling of them being ‘inside’ made its presence known.
Inside of what, though? The structure around them was definitely there, yet somehow undecipherable to the naked eye. The path ahead was clear, yet somehow blurry.
For the time being, at the very least… [Exit]
