The twins had to admit, it was very awkward the way that Commandramon was just looking out the window as he sat across from them, and no one had any real good conversation starters. So for most of the trip, it really was just awkward silence between the three of them. If their partners were capable of getting into a relationship, why were these guys having trouble just trying to be friendly towards each other?
"Gabumon," Agumon whispered to his brother, "I didn't really show it much, but Commandramon really scares me half to death. Almost as much as that Psych guy."
"I wouldn't be too worried," Gabumon whispered back. "He's Tadayoshi's partner, and he's as loyal to him as we are to Rebecca. He's just not the talkative type, it seems. Trust me, this little outing to Rosewood is gonna be a good time - for all of us."
Once the train stopped, Commandramon got up from his seat before spontaneously acting like he was searching for something before just as quickly calming down. At first Agumon and Gabumon were pretty confused, but then Commandramon explained this was the first time he came to the Digital World unarmed. "Ohhh, you were looking for your bang-bang-shoot-em-all device?"
"It's called a gun. I know you're smarter than that, it's like you try to act dumb on purpose," Gabumon said to the yellow dinosaur as he rolled his eyes. He looked back over at Commandramon. "I can imagine how uneasy you must be feeling without it, but there's a reason we picked Rosewood, it's a city where humans and Digimon live peacefully, it rarely gets attacked."
"And if there IS an attack, you've got us fall back behind if you need to!"
"Exactly. Now, is there somewhere you'd like to go first or should we think about it as we eat lunch?"

Commandramon shook his head as he stepped off the train. One breath later, and he was completely fine. But the twins were half-right about what the problem was without even being told, and the captain had no problem correcting the other half. "I am not paranoid. It's not that I expect to defend myself every hour," he emphasized while looking down. "I feel as if I've left something behind that I need... the feeling of going to school without your books, or to my job without my badge." Commandramon looked wistfully about his surroundings. "This place doesn't feel like my home anymore. I've been away so long." While Commandramon looked off again in a different direction, he seemed highly focused on something that wasn't actually there. In reality, it was the direction itself he was focused on. "In fact, it's... that way. Just a day's journey."
It was at this point that Commandramon could look back at the twins, feeling a little more back in the present after expressing all that. "But it's good that I can rely on you two." Was Commandramon about to- no, no, the thought is ridiculous. The captain didn't smile. The most anyone could hope for was that the corners of his mouth might straighten out, and that was what Agumon and Gabumon got. Anything else? Well, that was just an unrealistic expectation, certainly! "Why don't we talk shop over a meal, then?"

Agumon and Gabumon were a bit concerned about Commandramon looking for his weapon at first. Commandramon explained it as if a piece of him was missing, something he left behind that he absolutely needed. Gabumon could probably sort of understand where the soldier was coming from as Gabumon himself was seen with his pelt at all times, the poor guy hated taking it off in front of anyone.
But then Commandramon started looking around at his surroundings, saying that this place didn't feel like his home anymore, fixating his gaze on a certain direction and mentioning how it was only a day's journey. "Oh yeah... when we first met you all and Tadayoshi. I remember that."
"Things were different yet oddly the same back then," Gabumon commented. "It was before the construction started on this city, even."
Commandramon looked back around, saying that it was good that he had the twins to rely on. While Commandramon was so clearly not smiling even though he totally was, Agumon and Gabumon's smiles were at least visible. Their partners may be dating, but the twins felt like they had a decent friend in Commandramon.
Well it seemed like the group would discuss what to do over a meal. "Sounds good to me," Agumon asked, walking up to Commandramon before looking down at the soldier's midsection. "I bet you're excited to get some food too, hm?"
"Er... what are you doing, Agumon?"
"Talkin' to Commandramon's belly, what of it?"
Gabumon sweatdropped. "You get stranger and stranger every day. We should just look for a restaurant, there's plenty of different kinds in Rosewood. Where should we go?"
"Ooh! Ooh! There's a place we passed once before that I wanna try. It serves a buncha good stuff like ramen and tempura, and sushi and curry and-"
"Slow down there, you're getting my mouth all watery," Gabumon said with a laugh. "Sounds like as good of a choice as any. Just lead the way, Agumon."
It wasn't too far of a walk to get to the restaurant that Agumon was describing. The building itself looked nice and the place was pretty packed. Once they entered they would be greeted by a Palmon waiter who lead the trio to a table and handed them their menus. "Is there anything you three would like to drink today?" the Palmon asked.

In the digital world, a city could rise in the time it took a human to earn a degree, as Gabumon pointed out. Even with time dilation, Commandramon regarded this feat as impressive now that he had the perspective from living in the human world so long. What did his home look like now? With a start, the soldier realized that it wasn't a matter of months that he'd been away from home. It has been several years, from their point of view. What changed? Was it all for the better?
Commandramon didn't get to think on it long. Some weirdo was bent over and anthropomorphizing his stomach. That earned Agumon a blank, quizzical stare that just asked the question, 'What the heck are you doing?' without saying it out loud. Like Commandramon, Commandramon's belly did not talk back. No, Commandramon learned that lesson in the woods when he might be on close recon assignment for days at a time, or perhaps when he was on overwatch as Scorpmon. Any involuntary bodily sound would give him away, and so the soldier had trained long and hard not to make any noise that he didn't want to. As comedic as it might have been for Commandramon's stomach to growl right at this moment, the soldier wouldn't-
-Commandramon's stomach growled.
He hadn't eaten breakfast that day. Or lunch. Or a snack. Too busy drilling his crew. Now, he was starting to realize that was a mistake. The soldier was glad to be able to sit down, and as much as he tried to hide it his mouth was salivating at the promise of nutrition. A beverage would have to do. "Only water," Commandramon instinctively answered. It was only after that he remembered the nature of this exercise was to enjoy himself and maybe treat himself a bit. So, what the heck? He would cut loose. "No, wait. Tonic water, please." Yep. That was more like it.
During the wait, Commandramon would relax a little in his chair and lean forward, but his eyes kept darting down to the vest pocket in which he kept his D-Terminal. At first it led to nothing, but the soldier stiffened when he gave in, "I should check in with the others, make sure they aren't slacking in my absence." That was then the soldier whipped out the D-Terminal and began to compose a long and firmly worded e-mail that, if left to continue undeterred, would remind those back home that the rules for personal training and emergency readiness still applied even if while both he and Tadayoshi were gone as well as demanding hourly reports on unusual real world digimon activity.

Agumon and Gabumon stared at Commandramon as that familiar sound was heard. It was mere moments after Agumon was doing his usual weird thing and his brother just had to deal with it. Before more could be said though, the unexpected happened: Commandramon's stomach had actually responded with a growl. The two brothers looked at the surely embarrassed soldier for a few moments...
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Both Agumon and Gabumon couldn't hold in their laughter. The two had never seen Commandramon be put in a situation like this; this was priceless! "Ah, didn't know your stomach was such a comedian, Commando," Agumon said, putting his claws on Commandramon's shoulder. "Tell us another joke, Commandramon's belly!"
"Sorry- sorry for laughing, I couldn't help myself," Gabumon said as he attempted to calm himself down. "Still, such perfect timing for something like that! Come, let's get to that restaurant."
Once the group arrived at the restaurant and sat down, Commandramon ordered... water. No wait, he's changing his order! ...tonic water. That simply wouldn't do. "Three orange sodas as well, one for each of us! No way you're drinking just water today, Commandra."
The Palmon waitress nodded, writing down the drink orders before walking away, leaving the menus at the table for the group. While Commandramon was simply waiting, Agumon and Gabumon would look through the menus to decide what to order. There were amazingly detailed images of the dishes plastered on the menu as well, definitely dangerous for a hungry Digimon to look at. Commandramon could see Agumon and Gabumon both visibly drooling as they looked through.
Commandramon announced that he was going to check in with the others in Silence, pulling out his D-Terminal. Gabumon immediately figured out what he was going to do, which was make the others train even more. Gabumon closed his eyes and ripped the D-Terminal out of Commandramon's claws, placing it right next to his seat furthest away from Commandramon. "No D-Terminals at the table please, Commandramon."
