Hokay guys - I wanted to make a poll because everyone loves polls.
This is my suggestion. Currently there's a very specific 5 thread limit, which has got more lenient. That's:
2 IC
1 Plot
1 Mission
1 Team
Now, for unaffiliated characters who don't want to participate in missions and really don't want to get involved in much deep plot, and really just want to bumble around, first things first: personally I feel there's a touch of bias towards more... independent characters, essentially limited at two threads. Given that a switchover in domains can be particularly lethal when it comes to sites, my personal suggestion - which I know a lot of people support - is the full-on abolition of the thread limit system. Because why not? I want to make a shite-ton of threads. It gets to the point where if time is not on your side and you're planning a thread with a close friend, it might take you upwards of two months to get into a point when they're ready to thread.
How we deal with full liquid time, I have some suggestions. Just removing thread limits could be a little chaotic, and it means you're counting on people to order their threads themselves - which, to be fair, they're probably doing now, if they have upwards of 4 threads anyway, God knows I am - but it could work. If not, then implement mandatory thread trackers/or journals to keep a chronological order of threads maintained by the player. Of course, that's slightly more effort, so it could just be a recommended function or whatever.
Anyway, vote and add your two cents. Personally I want this to happen.

+1, although Plots/Missions would probably still need to be limited so that slots aren't hogged up and everyone gets a chance.

Just remember to enforce Thread Trackers as more of a thing if this gets passed, as they help keep up with the chronological order of your threads and what exactly you're doing at the time. Also, for this to work in full effect, I suggest in addition that we add an official site date, rather than just having an implied one. This doesn't have to go as far as changing the day every single goddamn day, but at the very least have a year. Having on official site year (I suggest 2012, by the way), allows people to actually figure out their Chinese Zodiacs which is something that is asked for in the character profiles rather than guessing and furthermore helps with having full liquid time as it helps thread trackers keep a steady chronological order. Adding official months only help further, and it really isn't too big of a deal updating the news header every month.
Quick FAQ section because I kinda made a lengthy side-suggestion on Ross's post, in which I am in total +1 with (sans maybe limiting missions and plot threads)
"But Al, what if a month ends and I'm still in a thread?"
Well, you continue that thread as if the month that you started the thread in was still going on. Then, in your bext thread, it will be the new month. Pull some time-skip shenanigans or simply fill out the missing time in post, or in a journal or something. Obviously a plot running for a certain month would take place in that month.
"This seems really complicated."
If the concept of time isn't complicated, I dunno what is. But trust me from experience, this works and isn't hard to pull off once you get a hang of it. Hell, I'd even be willing to lend a helping hand to staff about this if needed.
"Will this make our characters older/younger?"
Not if you don't want them to, mate. They're your characters. We never established a year before now if this goes through, so that's still up to your discretion.

Okay - well the results of the poll are looking, though minimal, fairly unanimous. Does anyone else have anything to say about this issue/implementing it in V5?

well with v5 implementing the system that warns you when a thread you've posted in becomes posted in then i think this would work fine here, it's like auto thread traking, but yea limit missions and plots and don't be stupid about it, if two threads are connected chronologically don't be in both at the same time.

Surely if we have auto thread tracking that's a point in favour for disabling any limits on the amount of threads...
And shouldn't the timeline maintenance be at the discretion of the user? It certainly shouldn't be staff's responsibility to monitor individual character timelines.
And, here's some sour news for you, Jack, with 5 thread slots already it's beyond easy to play the chronology card as being problematic; the only way thread limiting would absolutely avoid all instances of that would to be to limit to ONE thread, which I think EVERYONE would agree is a solid no-no.

I'm just not really a fan of fully liquid time. That may just be because OCD creates the need in me to then put all those liquidly timed threads in chronological order, and any plot, causal or logical inconsistencies that result from that will DESTROY my sanity.
But really, I'm indifferent.

Liquid time with compulsory or recommended thread trackers is what I'm suggesting. Less liquid time; more just removing thread limits.
I'll say again. We already have a liquid time system: allowing five threads is going to create potential for just as much of a systematic series of time paradoxes as allowing an unlimited amount. The only thing that will increase would be their frequency, and only with people who don't keep their timelines regulated and straight. I've already got a thread tracker in my relationships thread; it may be worth doing the same, I advise, if this motion goes through.
