Back In The Ring [Coolmon]

It was said that time healed all wounds, but clearly that wasn't the case. A long time had passed since she had ran away from a meeting that she had asked for, but the past still weighed heavily on Sunny's shoulders. Even turning her back on the Digital World for a bit out of apprehension the wrongness of what she had done would always eventually find her. Seeing other humans who were alone and dejected, or even catching glimpses of rabbits real or otherwise. She could help those people, and often she did if she was able.
Thus, it had always haunted Sunny whenever she remembered Coolmon's happy grin while she had been hugging the digimon in her arms.
Then there was Coolmon's hesitant admission about not knowing a lot about her own mother, and wanting to meet her someday. The fact that Aurelia's stern personality had even triggered such a recollection helped drive home how terrible the spirit user felt. Sadly, it seemed that even Aurelia herself had quieted down since then, too. The silence had made Sunny feel like a part of herself had died.
The woman stared down at her digivice, held carefully between both hands. There was a faint light from the screen, but nothing appeared. She sat on a bench facing a raised platform with a lightly padded floor; the training area was empty for the time being. Still, glowing lines trailed the sparring platform's boundary in a faint white light. It was the same spot from that meeting oh so long ago.
Unlike then, she was dressed in something more appropriate. The woman wore coveralls and athletic shoes, the former of which was a rich blue in color. A pair of work gloves were stuffed into one of her cargo pockets. Recently she had taken a small job as a helper at the coliseum, and being around digimon fights had helped her work up the courage. Not only the courage to correct her mistake, but the courage to ask for forgiveness. She would do the latter in person, though.
The invitation had already been sent with a brief apology a couple days ago to give Coolmon some time to think. Would she reappear? As Sunny gently squeezed her digivice with a small, nervous smile, she hoped so.

Sometimes, people made mistakes. This was a truth of life that Coolmon had been given tutelage in time and time again thanks to certain individuals, and certain circumstances. And while it was true, she did receive that invitation a couple of days ago, it never did occur to the rabbit that it was to allow her to think.
Because her response had literally been Okay! I'm bringing my tamer this time, I think you two might get along!
Coolmon had never been anything but earnest. Soon enough, the silence surrounding Sunny and the training area would be broken by two pairs of footsteps. One pair belonging to a woman with lilac hair, wearing dark-colored armor that for some god-forsaken reason had heels, and the other a more familiar waddle belonging to the single coolest creature to ever have been released upon the world.
"Hey, Sunny! It's been a while." The Cutemon said, the usual happy expression on her face as unerring as it had ever been. The human remained silent, looking down to her partner(?), who then looked back to her. "Yeah, this is her." Coolmon nodded.
"Um...A good day to you, Miss Sunny. I'm Coolmon's tamer, Aya. It's...nice to meet you." Aya herself would be lying if she said Coolmon hadn't told her a LOT about Sunny. Question is, how would the lady react?

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps nearby. Not one set, but two. Coolmon did mention that she was bringing her tamer. For whatever reason, Sunny's paranoia had conjured an illusion that the pink rabbit's partner was a large intimidating person that would break Sunny in half for ditching Coolmon. Because that's how karma worked, right?
So she wasn't sure what to think when she turned her head to find a woman wearing armor, complete with high heels. The stranger had a gentle look to her, but the armor still made Sunny's brows raise a little in surprise. This certainly wasn't what she had been expecting her imminent doom to look like, but getting hit or kicked by Coolmon's tamer would probably still hurt a lot. Then her gaze lowered to the real reason she had set this meeting up. Her nervous smile grew a little wider at the sight of the digimon.
Immediately Sunny stood up from her seat as Coolmon greeted her, offering a sheepish wave at first. When Coolmon confirmed to her partner that Sunny was who they were meeting, the older woman half expected to get hit by her armored counterpart. So the shy greeting from Aya was a pleasant surprise.
"H-Hello, Coolmon! It really has been too long, hasn't it? Heh.." The joke was slipped in with a slightly softer tone, but the woman was determined to see this through to the end. Looking to Aya next Sunny shook her head lightly, and returned to a warmer tone of voice. "Please, you don't have to be formal towards me. Sunny is fine, Aya. If anything you two are my seniors in this world, so thank you both for coming."
Sunny then looked back to Coolmon, already feeling apprehension welling up again. Before the metaphorical butterflies in her stomach could make the situation anymore worse she took a deep breath before easing herself down to the ground in front of Coolmon to sit on her knees. Any speech she had prepared beforehand flew out the window as she rested her hands in her lap and guiltily stared into the bright eyes of her judgement. Sunny then bowed forward a little at her waist, taking on a penitent posture.
"Coolmon.. Thank you for coming. About last time, well.. I-I won't make any excuses. I'm sorry for running out on our match. That really, really wasn't cool of me, huh?" Her anxious smile returned as she stared at the ground. "I've been getting better at being around digimon, and I hope I can show you that today. Uhm... I hope you can forgive me for that, and for taking so long to come back."
Apologizing was never an easy thing to do, let alone doing it with a witness present. The woman released a quiet sigh, knowing this probably made her look like a terrible person in front of Aya. Still, it needed to be said.

The rabbit would respond in kind by nodding swiftly! "It has! So much's happened since I last saw you, it's kind of crazy!" That was a bit of an understatement. Just a little bit. She'd go on into what exactly happened, but if she did? They'd be here all day and then nobody'd wanna fight.
Plus, Aya was infinitely better than her at explaining things. "Well...Given how much Coolmon's told me about you, I thought it'd only be right, given she...kind of made you sound like her mother. B-Besides, whether or not I've been here longer shouldn't have any effect on how I address people." Aya quickly explained. See? Like that.
That said, the girl thought it odd that Sunny was...so repentant in front of Coolmon. But the rabbit strode forward, up to Sunny and...gave her a pat on the head. "Well, it might not have been very cool then, but...I managed to understand why. With a bit of time and a second opinion. Cold feet before fighting something you're not used to being around is...a place I've been at before. And I really wanna stress this, but...I don't think you did anything inherently wrong. You needed time to adjust. And you've clearly taken that! So...I forgive you. I don't think you needed it, but...I'll forgive you anyways, because you're here now."
It was weird how Coolmon could keep a level head and try being uplifting even when...well, being confronted with this. But, amends could be made no matter what, right? "So...You don't have to be scared of me. Or of Aya--I don't think she can hurt a fly!"
"...I don't think I'm -that- intimidating..."

Her inner anxiety had definitely surged at the confirmation that Coolmon had thought of Sunny as a sort of motherly figure. In truth she had never really even looked after a pet before, but the burden of failure still weighed heavily on her conscience all the same. However, even with all that dread piled on her shoulders Sunny still felt Coolmon's hand land gently on her head. The human didn't understand initially, but as she made eye contact with the digimon she was sure to listen carefully.
There was an surprising amount of insight and maturity behind both Coolmon's words and her gaze. It made Sunny wonder just what kind of hardships the digimon had faced since they last met to be talking like this. She made a mental note to definitely ask about that later, but for now her lips pursed together as Coolmon forgave her. The woman even had to blink a few times to stop herself from letting out a few tears given the whole situation. She didn't stop herself to save face, but so Coolmon didn't feel like she had to repeat herself again.
As her hands in her lap gripped at the pants of her coveralls her lips cracked an earnest, sheepish smile. She even chuckled at the joke cracked at Aya's expense. If that even was a joke?
"You really are the coolest, y'know?" she managed to say shakily as she straightened up her back but remained on her knees. Sunny wiped at her eyes with the back of her hand, still smiling like an idiot as she did so. She glanced down to Coolmon with a mixture of admiration and adoration, and then she reached out to cup the digimon's cheek in one hand. Leaning forward again Sunny gently rested her forehead against Coolmon's, careful not to knock off her headphones.
"Thank you, Coolmon," she said softly with her eyes closed, "..you're growing into such a wonderful person, and you would make your mother proud."
Sunny knew she wasn't Coolmon's real mother, and as much as she would have liked to practically adopt the digimon under her care that was out of the question with a tamer involved. Still, it felt like the right thing to say for both her, and Coolmon. Her hand recoiled as she leaned back once more, a warm smile appearing on her face now.
"Ah.. I'm uh, sorry if that was strange to watch, Aya," she said to the younger woman with a bashful expression. "I just needed to do that, and I'm glad I did." Sunny then looked back to Coolmon.
"Shall we get started, then? Oh, I'll buy lunch afterwards, it's the least I can do for the two of you after all this."

Neither of the girls were able to truly comprehend how deep the anxiety and unconfidence was set within Sunny, really. It did seem like forgiveness was indeed accepted by Sunny, though. Given the admission that she was, in fact the coolest. "Of course I am! It's in the name, after all." The rabbit gave a practiced grin, even while giving Sunny an earnest hug.
"I hope so too." She said, before she'd release Sunny from her horrible, evillll clutches. Aya had a warm smile on her face. Odd as that was to watch, it did seem like Coolmon was not kidding at all when she said that she held this woman in really high regard. Only person she saw the rabbit be so candid with was K.
...So long ago...
"Yes, we should get started. So, last time...I think Coolmon said you could use the sprite stage of Spirit Evolving. Why don't you get into that first? Just to see how well you can adjust to the form first." Aya instructed! Well, asked? Something. Coolmon would meanwhile start doing...warmup stretches. This was a Coolmon tradition.

She couldn't help but chuckle at Coolmon affirming her own coolness. Maybe it was that confident grin or warm hug, but Sunny was starting to believe in this Cutemon's self proclaimed legend. Hearing the sincerity in Coolmon's voice when speaking about her mother also played no small part in that effort as well. Maybe one day Sunny could help her find out.
However, now was no longer the time to be absorbed by heart warming feelings and daydreams! If she sat on such things for too long she'd never be able to fight Coolmon properly like she had agreed to, and she was not going to disappoint the pink digimon again. As she rose to her feet the woman lightly slapped her palms against her own cheeks to help focus her mind before looking to Aya. The young woman had a calming way of talking to people That Sunny readily appreciated.
"That's right, I only have the first stage, but I can do that at least," said Sunny with a nod as she looked down at her hand. A band of fractal coding appeared wrapped around her hand without much effort aside from the thought of it. Her other hand retrieved her D-Tector from a pocket, and she used the device to scan her exposed coding.
Red light enveloped her body as her shape was changed to fit that of her sprite stage, shortening her stature considerably. Once the silhouette finished reshaping itself the light faded and revealed a Lunamon.
"Not the best for fighting," she commented as she looked down at her own hands. Her claw-like fingers were small, and like most digimon at her level she didn't come equipped with a weapon. Her hands curled into fists as she looked back up to Aya resolutely. "..but, if Coolmon can do it too I have to at least try!"
