A Reluctant Date (DFRP Valentine's Event 2021)
|
Post by Kaya Matsui and Hawkeye on Feb 14, 2021 20:40:09 GMT
I am going to get you back for this at some point, Kaya...
Hawkeye grumpily sat at a table in the outdoor seating area as he waited for his "date" to arrive. Why was he there alone, you ask? The Hawkmon's partner Kaya Matsui had actually signed Hawkeye up for a blind date with a mystery Digimon without his permission, and now that the date was set up he was basically being forced to go through with it, as standing a date up was not a good look at all.
"I wish she would have at least asked me before she put me through with this..." Hawkeye mumbled as he waited. Today was Valentine's Day, so there were plenty of Digimon couples at Caritas right now just spending the holiday with their own significant others. It wasn't as if Hawkeye was completely opposed to the idea of a blind date. He didn't agree with it, but he has thought of maybe entering a relationship of his own at some point... of course those thoughts were always replaced by his fears of those he loves leaving him, so he doesn't think of getting a girlfriend as of late.
Maybe... maybe things will be different this time... just have to think positively, like Kaya usually does. Yeah, just don't be too distant, talk to her, be a gentleman and show her a nice time. I think I can put aside my fears for one night... might have to order a dessert, just to be on the safe side.

Things had changed, this time around. Just one little human girl had changed so much for them. That was what Cream had been thinking lately. Of all their short lifetimes, this was the one where Mocha was beginning to change. She was most definitely still Mocha, of course, but something was a little different. Mocha didn't seem to look out for just herself anymore. Cream no longer had to watch Mocha's every move for whatever horrendously ill-fated scheme she was going to come up with, and ultimately get dragged into. She was... dare she think it - tamer now.
And for once in her life, looking out for her sister, and by extension herself, wasn't Cream's main priority anymore. She was... free. And while certainly exhilarating to think about, it was a little strange as well. Did... she even have any hobbies? She liked napping and music, but who doesn't? Most of her lives were spent looking after an insane narcissist that just seemed to ask for stronger Digimon to kill her. She had never really developed any interesting hobbies or the like.
So when she saw a blind date matching program on the tamernet, she was a little hesitant. Could someone even be interested in someone boring like her? She was... oddly curious to find out the answer to that. It was more about her than finding love, admittedly, but Cream needed to know. So she signed up. And before she knew it, she had snuck out to go on a date. Mukuroyukihime had promised not to Nanami and Mocha know where she was going, though. They were far too nosy not to get involved in a matter like this one. She would refuse to reveal anything to Mocha, if only out of spite, but if Nanami pressed her, Cream was pretty sure the Falcomon would cave immediately. So she was extra cautious when she traveled, just to make sure she wasn't being followed.
So she was running a little late because of that. But she got there, accessorized and all. Well, as accessorized as a Terriermon could get. There were plenty of labcoats for her to wear, but they didn't exactly scream "first date" to her. So instead she had put on a beige trilby with a light green trim. And she was led to her table. Where a familiar bird was sitting there, looking rather pensive at the moment. It felt like ages since she had last saw him. He was shorter than she remembered, though she supposed that it was only because she had Digivolved since then.
And naturally, he was someone who had met her sister. She could practically hear her sister laughing at the irony of it all. But Cream just sucked it up and tipped her hat to him. "It's... good to see you again, Hawkeye," She greeted in a rather neutral tone. He would likely recognize her voice, but she wanted to remind him anyways. "I was still a Gummymon when we met, but do you remember me? My name is Cream."

Hawkeye didn't have to wait too much longer for his "date" to arrive. Of course it should be mentioned that Hawkeye wasn't wearing his usual quiver tonight. He was pressured by Kaya to wear at least some form of fancy suit. So what the Terriermon would see is a Hawkmon wearing a nice royal blue suit, with a white button-up shirt and a black bow tie underneath. Hawkeye felt stupid wearing this attire, but with Kaya there was no getting out of it unfortunately.
The Hawkmon's eyes locked onto the Terriermon with the beige trilby hat as she approached the table he was sitting at. Immediately something struck him as familiar about this Terriermon based off of the signal he was getting from her. These two had definitely encountered each other at some point before, but of course Hawkeye wouldn't know exactly who because he hadn't seen Cream in her Terriermon form before.
It was Cream's voice that tipped him off, even before she revealed her name and explained how they knew each other. All that he could remember from last time they met was her sister Mocha, however. She caused a lot of trouble back then and it still upset Hawkeye whenever he tried to recall that memory.
Regardless, Hawkeye chuckled in response, this was certainly an ironic situation wasn't it? "Yeah, I do remember you, Cream," Hawkeye would say. Once Cream joined him at the table, he would take initiative to start the conversation properly. "Since you know me, you probably know that I did not sign up for the blind date willingly. Kaya signed me up without my knowledge. I never would've expected that I would already somewhat know the Digimon that I'd be going on said date with. A bit humorous if you think about it."

"I... see..." Cream's face didn't give away any tells. In fact, her face often did. But having her date explicitly explain that he didn't want to be here didn't exactly fill her up with hope. She wanted to try and put herself out there for once, to find someone in her life that she could maybe one day be vulnerable... and this is what she got instead. Of course it would work out like that. "Yeah... I guess that is funny..." She lied, taking a seat. Still... she had some time away from her usual crowd, and if Hawkeye came out all the way here for a date despite it all, the least she could do was keep him company.
"Well... if you don't want to do this, then I guess it can't be helped. But I suppose we can have a pleasant meal together, just talking as if we were friends," Not that they were actually friends. Both kept themselves a little too... distant from other people to consider themselves as friends. Not after meeting just the once. Cream wasn't nearly so accepting and friendly as Nanami was, and she never bothered to try.
After that was some awkward silence. "So... for what it's well, you clean up quite nicely, though... I think I prefer your usual attire." Though maybe that was just her.
More awkward silence, until, "Oh, I guess if you'd like me to, I can give Kaya a message telling her that the date went well..." She offered. "Maybe then she won't sign you up for these kinds of situations in the future. I don't mean to speak ill of your partner, she seems like she has good intentions, but I don't think that someone else should be pressured into doing things like this. People are ready for relationships when they're ready, and trying to force it is only going to set yourself up, as well as someone ready and looking for the real thing..."
And after that, you guessed it, more awkward silence.

Hawkeye could tell that saying that he didn't want to be there wasn't an ideal move for the moment. Cream didn't seem to be feeling the same way, so it was possible that he disappointed her in some way. "I'm sorry that this is not what you wanted to hear," Hawkeye said. "But now that I am here, it is my intention to do my best to show you a good time. It's the least I can do, after all. If you wish for that, that is."
Yes, a pleasant meal and possibly some entertainment could help the awkwardness that was set between the two. Though she didn't quite say it, Hawkeye was similar to Cream in regards to how accepting and friendly he was. Despite all his attempts, Hawkeye was just simply a distant Digimon, a very difficult one to get along with, In hindsight he could see what Kaya was trying to help him overcome, but a blind date was a tad bit overboard.
After some very awkward silence, Cream complimented Hawkeye's outfit. The Hawkmon blushed and grinned, looking downwards towards the floor in response. "Th-Thank you. I thought I looked rather silly in this, but I am glad you like it." She would also comment how she preferred his usual attire. "You mean the quiver I usually wear? It's definitely more functional for battle."
Cream brought up how she didn't think someone should be pressured into doing something like this, referring to how Hawkeye was pushed into this blind date. The Hawkmon sighed. "I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I also understand why Kaya did what she did. I'm not... I'm not the most social Digimon in the world, as you can tell. It's... hard for me... to make connections with others. And I tend to act cold toward others when I don't always intend to. She could've gone about it better, but I do think Kaya is trying to help me move past whatever it is that's stopping me from... well..."
During another bit of awkward silence, a waiter Bokomon would walk up to their table, greeting the two and asking if they were ready to order. "I will have the Tempura, with a glass of beer please." Once getting his and Cream's order, the Bokomon would walk off and deliver those orders to the chef.

"It can't be helped..." She repeated, trying not to dwell on that fact. Cream had to rationalize things for a bit. It's not like a serious date would have gone well in the first place. Who seriously finds a partner their first try? At the very least, Hawkeye was intent on giving Cream a pleasant evening, even if it didn't go anywhere further than that. So if Cream just thought of this as a situation as a second date was a no-go, then this was even better, since there was still a chance for this first date to go well. Having one pleasant night couldn't be so bad, right?
And on the matter of outfits? "I guess I shouldn't be saying this..." She tapped the brim of her hat. "But I think Digimon are better off being who they are." She put her hand to her chin. "I guess that I'm old-fashioned, but I'm not particularly comfortable with hiding my form with something like a holosuit, even though I see the obvious benefits when in the human world..." Her voice trailed off then. She could talk about that subject for hours, but she wasn't sure it was one Hawkeye would be particularly interested in.
And when he began to open up a little, it was only natural for Cream to want to respond in kind. "Well... I had been the same way, after a while. I've lived quite a few lives, all of them cut short. But I've remembered each one. But I think that..." As much as she hated to admit it, having Nanami for a partner had changed her, just a little. "Not even Digimon will live forever. And losing your memories might as well be the same as dying. So... having someone to remember you when you're gone, and carrying on someone's memory in turn... I think I want that." She looked down at the empty table. She hadn't meant to get that morbid. At least on a first date. But by the time she looked up, the waiter was there, and Hawkeye had already ordered.
Cream thought about it for a second. "I'll have the triple deluxe cheeseburger, with extra lettuce and tomato, and hold the mayonnaise please. I'll also have a bowl of spicy pork ramen with mushrooms, egg, and spring onions... And... a beef and potato stew with extra carrots, a side dish of macaroni and cheese, and a glass of cola, please," She looked over to Hawkeye, a little self-conscious. "Oh, make that a diet cola, instead."

Switching topics to outfits, Hawkeye was intrigued to hear Cream say that she thought Digimon should just be who they are, not doing things like wearing clothes or holosuits. It was a very interesting stance to have on the matter, not one you'd see very often as plenty of Digimon took up wearing outfits themselves. Hawkeye felt the need to express his thoughts on the matter. "Some Digimon just like wearing clothes. I don't exactly have a preference either way, though I usually try to just let others do what they like doing. It helps no one to force a Digimon to not wear clothes if they feel they must, that would just cause more problems than it is worth. On the topic of holosuits... I'm afraid they're necessary for the human world. Humans are not very keen on us yet, and I don't expect them to be for a long time. They fear what's different, after all."
Since Hawkeye had opened up a little, Cream opened up a bit about herself as well. She admitted to having lived quite a few short lives and remembered all of them, and she believed that not even Digimon live forever as lost memories could count as dying, so she wanted to have someone to remember her when she's eventually gone. The subject of death was... rough for Hawkeye, to say the least. Before Hawkeye could reply though, the waiter came to take the couple's orders. Hawkeye ordered something relatively modest, while Cream ordered three separate meals (including sides) and a cola, before looking at Hawkeye and changing it to a diet cola. Hawkeye stared at Cream incredulously as the Bokomon waiter wrote the order down and left the two alone.
"Jesmon Christ mode..." Hawkeye muttered. "Are you really going to be able to eat all that?"
Back to the previous subject... "I have someone like that," he admitted. Was he really going to say this? "Someone who's gone that I remember like that... His name was Eizo. He was my original human partner before I met Kaya. He was the first one that didn't tease me because of my data corruption. He was my first friend, my bestest friend. My whole world came crashing down the day he died... but I keep his memory in my Digicore to this very day. Not a day goes by where I don't remember him in some way, and I visit his grave every chance I can." A couple of tears ran down from Hawkeye's eyes before he wiped them away. "So yeah, I can see why you'd want someone to remember you like that for yourself. It's how I'm trying to be for Kaya now, for if the unfortunate happens."

Cream nodded as Hawkeye gave his opinion on the matter, before clearing her throat. "Personally, it's because of that fact that I feel that humans and Digimon will never truly get along..." Fairly ironic, two Digimon that are bonded by destiny with a human to be having this conversation, and it wasn't lost on the Terriermon. "A relationship can't be built on the foundation of fear. And we fear what we can't control. And I have a feeling we Digimon won't take so kindly to being controlled." Admittedly, the human world wasn't the Terriermon's area of expertise, seeing as she spent maybe a week in the human world, most of which was spent hiding in Nanami's room. Ever since then, they had been traveling through the Digital World.
And to Hawkeye's inquiry, she tilted her head in confusion. "Well... I wanted to eat just enough to feel comfortable. Perhaps I should have ordered more?" Her face never wavered as she said it. Was she... just joking, or being serious? It was impossible for anyone to tell, really.
And as for the serious subjects... she simply stared back in stoic silence as the Hawkmon poured his heart and insecurities onto the table. Emotional responses weren't her forte, but she could at least try to be emotionally supportive. "I think..." she tried to choose her words carefully. "Everything comes to an end eventually, but it doesn't always have to end in ruin..." Did she really know what she was talking about? She didn't really know for herself, but it was still what she believed. "Eizo was a person who helped you become who you are today. And you remember him. And I think that Kaya is going to remember you. So in a way, Eizo will live beyond you. And you'll live beyond yourself. And eventually there will come a day when Kaya will live beyond herself as well."
Cream wanted to give a gentle smile, but she felt like it would be too forced. She wasn't the greatest at attaching facial expressions to her actual feelings, and she was getting a little self-conscious about it right now.

Hawkeye couldn't deny that Cream's views on human and Digimon weren't wrong. It was true about both aspects, humans hate what were different, and Digimon hate what they cannot control. The humans would try to control Digimon due to their fear, and Digimon would retaliate due to their own fear. The result just wouldn't be pretty. "I... I truly do understand what you mean. I cannot say you are wrong. But... look at it this way: would you ever have expected someone like me to befriend someone like Kaya? We're as different from each other as one could imagine, yet I cannot imagine my life without her. I would do anything for her. A friendship between a human and a Digimon is possible, but the humans and Digimon need to be understanding of each other for it to work. Does that make any sense whatsoever?"
The Hawkmon was still surprised by just exactly how much food Cream had ordered. When he asked about it, she said she wanted to eat enough just to feel comfortable and asked if she should have ordered more. Hawkeye stared for a bit... then chuckled. "I was never much of a big eater myself. I cannot tell if it's the corruption in my data that does that or if that is just who I am. When it comes to dessert, however..." It took all of Hawkeye's willpower to not start drooling at the thought of the kinds of sweets he would order after the main dish. "Kaya described it as having a second stomach just for dessert. I shrugged it off at the time, but it does sound plausible, heheh."
Cream was almost definitely taken aback by what Hawkeye had just shared with her. He knew she might have a hard time responding, as the people he told this to before did. She said that... that everything did have to come to an end, but it did not have to end in ruin. Hawkeye stared at her intently as she explained. She said that Eizo shaped Hawkeye into who he was today, so he remembers him, and said that Kaya was going to remember Hawkeye for a similar reason. What Hawkeye got from her explanation was that... Eizo still lives because Hawkeye carries the memory of him. " I think I understand... the memories help the person to live on in spirit. That makes me feel a little bit better... though lately I've been reflecting back on my own life after he passed and I wonder if... he would be disappointed in me, for all the choices I've made, for the Digimon I've become. I want to be a more positive Digimon like I was as a Poromon but I don't even know if I'm capable of being like that anymore."
Maybe Hawkeye was overthinking it and he wasn't as bad as he thought he was. Still, Cream's reaction to Hawkeye's insecure thoughts of himself would cementify what he would think of himself later on. Or not, who knows?

"It makes some sense..." Cream agreed. "The bond we have with Nanami is a little different. Sometimes it feels... one-sided? She's not really..." She shook her head. "Well... She's not intelligent, she's physically frail and doesn't take care of herself, and has very little self-restraint. And she's far more confident than she has any right to be. But at the same time... she trusts Mocha and I to the point of lunacy. If we told her to jump off a bridge, she'd do it without even waiting for us to finish speaking...
"But it's comforting for someone to have that kind of faith in you. And even though it's a pain, I can feel myself getting stronger, day by day, just to meet those expectations. I think... I'm not very fond of her, personally, but I think that being her partner was one of the best things to ever happen to us..." She looked down at the table for a serene moment, before looking back to Hawkeye. "But I think that kind of relationship shouldn't be the standard, though. The bond between a human tamer and Digimon partner is something I don't know well enough to judge, but sometimes it seems like they're meant to get along in some way or another, or be able for both sides to profit on a personal level. I don't think that one day, it would be out of question for Digimon and humans to be at peace with one another, but... I don't have high hopes. Sorry."
As for the subject of food... "It's mostly habit by now, but I'm used to ordering for two. And normally half my meals get stolen, so I've grown accustomed to eating large meals as quickly as possible. Though... I'll try to eat more properly tonight..."
And finally, the heavy subject. "I can only conjecture at this point, I'm afraid..." Cream admitted, looking down at the table. She was worried that the negativity these two were practically oozing was going to drive away their servers. I mean, who the hell would want to interrupt this conversation? "Well... I can only say that you'd know better than I would. But... I don't think it really matters if he'd be disappointed in you or not. He's dead, and the only thing you have to remember him by are your own memories. And... if you think that what you remember of him would be disappointed in you, then that means some part of yourself is ashamed of the things you've done... And that's what matters, I think..."
"But I think that if you still notice the parts you don't like about yourself, you can still change them." She let out a small sigh. "Trust me, I've met a problematic person or two. And even she's capable of changing. It's not immediate. An insulting comment that she's let go. A brief moment of empathy. Lying for someone else's sake, rather than her own. None of these would even be close to making her a good person, but they're changes nonetheless. Sometimes I think that... if even she can change to be even a better person, then anyone can. Maybe even myself."
And she had one other thing to say to Hawkeye, however. Something he probably wasn't going to like very much. "And I have to say that you'll probably never go back to being the way you are, any more than you can read a book you've already read like it's the first time. But... I think you can appreciate it in other ways. If you've changed into someone you don't like, it's because you were too weak to be who you wanted to be. So all you have to do is get stronger. Though... I can't really say what that means for you. But once you're stronger as a person, not as a Digimon, I think that you'll probably be proud of yourself."

The archer bird listened as Cream basically listed off all of Nanami's weaker points, including a lack of intelligence, a lack of self-restraint and over-confidence. Honestly Hawkeye could imagine being with someone like that to be one of the seven circles of Hell in and of itself. But she also mentioned how Nanami trusted her and Mocha with her life, and how it was comforting to have someone put their faith in you like that. "I agree, but trust has to be a two way street; you need to be able to put as much trust in Nanami as she does in you. And from what you told me, it would be foolish to do such a thing right now. A partnership shouldn't feel like... like a burden, correct?"
Cream did admit how that kind of relationship shouldn't be the standard, though. She said that she did think that humans and Digimon were meant to get along together, but didn't have high hopes for them both to be at peace with each other. A small smile formed on Hawkeye's beak. "If Kaya heard you say that she'd tell you a million and one reasons why you're wrong. That girl has enough energy and optimism to power an entire city, I tell you. But lately her confidence has been... diminishing. Too many instances of her not being able to handle the pressure when things got tough. It makes me wonder if I should try to convince her to not go back to the Digital World for the time being. I know she can handle herself but... I'm worried about her."
On the subject of the food, Cream admitted she was used to ordering for two and how half her meals usually got stolen, meaning she'd have to eat as fast as possibe. Hawkeye wasn't happy about that at all. "By Nanami and Mocha, I assume? You need to put your foot down and tell them that they don't have any right to steal from you. And I did not order too much myself, so we can most likely split your order if you want."
The heavy subject continued. On one hand, Hawkeye felt bad about sharing all of this on what was supposed to be a fun night out. On the other hand, Hawkeye had been holding all of these feelings in for an unhealthy amount of time. It had to come out one way or another, and it definitely couldn't be said around Kaya herself. At least Cream's words were helping tremendously. She was right; if there were parts about himself that he didn't like, he could always fix them. She brought up an unnamed friend as an example, small changes that prove that even if this problematic person could change, then anyone could. And even though she said that Hawkeye might not be able to go back to who he used to be, that didn't have to be a bad thing... he could be better than who he used to be. Hawkeye gave a look of genuine happiness towards Cream. It was subtle, but it definitely was not that famous Hawkeye glare that he usually gave.
"I think I need to apologize to Kaya... this date wasn't a bad idea after all."
Right as he finished saying that, about three waiters - including the Bokomon from earlier - arrived at Hawkeye and Cream's table. Hawkeye's order fit on one serving plater, but Cream's needed an additional two more. The waiters placed the legions of plates of food on the table perfectly, followed by the beer and the diet cola. "Enjoy your meal," the Bokomon said before the waiters left the table.
"Wow..." Hawkeye said, amazed by how the order was covering practically the entire table. "This might take a while. You ready, Cream?"

Cream tilted her head as she thought about Hawkeye's criticisms... or observations, rather, on the dynamic of her and Nanami's relationship. "I've never really thought about it like that. But... what can she do? It's not like she can become smarter or stronger as a person. And she's always supporting us. And even if she's not the most useful human out there, she's still got both Mocha and myself to help her and each other. Well, we have Mukuroyukihime, too. But that's a story for another day," She nodded a couple of times. "So I don't think it's as bad as you think. It can be difficult, but I'm used to having a difficult relationship with people close to me. This one is actually refreshing, surprisingly."
As Hawkeye spoke about Kaya's troubles, Cream stroked her chin in thought. That was a particularly strange situation. Cream couldn't possibly imagine Nanami ever losing faith in... well... just about anything. "Well... I don't exactly know why people like Kaya or Nanami have Digivices in the first place. Maybe their positivity can influence the Digital World in ways greater than they can imagine one day. But only if they remain positive. In the end its up to you. You're partners, after all. If you tell her that she should hold onto her beliefs, then she'll probably do so, if only because you believe in her. But I don't think she'll get anywhere just stagnating in the human world, probably. But... taking a small break can't be unhealthy, right?"
And after Cream's advice, Hawkeye had some advice for her. But... it wasn't advice she necessarily agreed with, sound as it may be. "Perhaps, but... I don't mind it so much. We're siblings that came from the same egg, for multiple lifetimes, even. It's not so strange that we share food, is it?" She thought about it for a bit longer. "Well... I suppose it feels stranger to be away from her... ah, but it's not like I find your company unwelcome, however. This has been quite pleasant so far, and you're welcome to help me finish my order."
Then Hawkeye made a strange comment about needing to thank Kaya, and Cream just nodded with the same blank expression she had on. Not long after, the table was filled from edge to edge with a copious amount of food, to which Hawkeye asked if Cream was ready. Cream looked back at the Hawkmon with a resolute stare and nodded.
Grasping an eating utensil with both her hands and ears, Cream the Terriermon knew that she had never been sure of anything more in her life.

"Humans are capable of more than you may think," Hawkeye told Cream when she started questioning just what exactly Nanami can do. "I don't know all about Nanami's situation, but most humans are indeed capable of growing smarter and stronger, just perhaps in different ways than us Digimon. The thing is that they seem to have to want to get smarter and stronger." Cream said she seemed to be used to having difficult relationships with those close to her, that it was actually somehow refreshing. "Well... I suppose if you're happy with it, who am I to say otherwise?"
Wait, Mukuroyukihime? That was a name he had never heard before. "Who's Mukuroyukihime?"
When Hawkeye shared his concerns with Kaya's dwindling confidence, Cream shared that maybe people like her were given Digivices in order to spread that positivity throughout the Digital World. Hawkeye never really thought about exactly why humans got Digivices, only that it was a thing that usually happened. Cream did have a good theory though. "I think it's because we've ended up in fairly dangerous situations before, and she was kidnapped by pirates once. We don't always go adventuring, we take occasional breaks here and there. Still, I don't think those experiences are gonna leave her mind anytime soon. I just know she's stronger than that, but I don't think I'm doing much of a good job convincing her of that."
Well this was a surprising turn. Cream apparently didn't mind that Mocha steals her food like that, since the two of them were twins. "That is not the response I was expecting. I suppose it's because I do not have a twin, that I'm aware of at least. Still, nothing wrong with a little time for yourself every now and then. Even Kaya and I need time away from each other at points."
And now it was time... the two of them had to conquer all this food that had been laid out before them. "Remember, there is no shame in needing to put some in containers for later. Unless you think there actually is." Hawkeye would grab his own eating utensils and begin consuming their meal.
Whether or not they actually finished or just ended up taking some for leftovers anyway, it would still take quite a while for him to finish his portion of the table's worth of food. Once he was finally finished, the bird Digimon would take a huge breath, leaning back in his seat. His stomach looked as full as he felt, and he felt pretty damn full. "Ooough... this may have been a mistake, heheh..." Hawkeye said with a laugh, his wings resting on his belly. He had requested three refills of beer during the meal, so he was pretty tipsy by this point.

"Well... I don't think Nanami is done growing just yet. The same can be said of Kaya, right? And even though I can't really say what it is she contributes... but she... just kind of makes me feel like I can be a better person? And I know that I'm not the only one who thinks that. It's like... I don't ever want to let her down, even though she'd be perfectly fine with it if I did. Maybe you can empathize with that. I don't know if that's a normal feeling for... Digimon like us." Cream nodded to herself. How she felt about Nanami was kind of hard to define, really. Was it love? Not really. Respect? Not that, either. Just... a bond of trust. That was the only word she could define it with, and even that felt incomplete.
As for Mukuroyukihime? "Ah, she's a friend of ours. A Falcomon. Joined us shortly after Mocha and I received our first Digimentals. She's a good-hearted Digimon, but she has a tendency to take herself and everyone around her a little too seriously. So we sometimes need to watch what we say around her, because she might confuse a sarcastic comment for something serious."
And with Hawkeye's worry for Kaya, Cream could only nod along. "Well... I think it's important to simply stay by her side. She'll be stronger with you there for her, and she'll be able to find her own confidence again. I'm sure of it. Otherwise, what are we partner Digimon here for?"
"Hmm. Well... if I save some containers for later..." She had to think of the scenarios. Nanami would be grateful, but totally not eat anything she gave her. Mukuroyukihime would say something along the lines of "I am most unworthy to receive such a gift from you, Lady Cream!" and Mocha... would just eat it without Cream needing to say something. And then ask why she didn't get her any more food. "I'd... rather try and eat it all here." And so... the food arrived and they got to eating...
And while Cream felt fairly full after all was said and done, well... she didn't feel nearly as bloated as she thought she would. In fact most food didn't seem to fill her up as much as she thought it would ever since... the great fish attack and Cream learned how to Digivolve. Did her appetite grow with each new form she obtained? So if she would get to Ultimate level and higher... how much would she be able to eat, then? All of these were flowing through her mind as she unconsciously grabbed a drink off the table. But the problem with so much food and dishes on the table all at once was that there were few places to put their drinks, and she ended up grabbing Hawkeye's by mistake.
One sip is all it took. Okay, she took more than one sip, but she had to get the food down, you know? She set the glass down, her eyes glazing over just a bit as she just started chuckling to herself for no reason at all.
"Hehehe... hehehe... you've got a big belly..." She noted with an uncharacteristic smile followed by a fit of laughter. For some reason, she couldn't sit up straight and she started rocking back and forth. "And your laugh is really funny sounding! You should *hic* get a new one!"

"Hm... I understand what you mean," Hawkeye said, after listening to Cream explain how she felt about Nanami, her confused feelings at that. "I feel the same way about Kaya. Ever since... you know... my time living at the village turned me bitter, made me hateful and rude. Kaya then came into my life, and... while I'm still not the Digimon I'd like to be, I'm much better than if you had met me about two years ago before I met her. You care for Nanami, Cream. And that is perfectly normal for a Digimon to feel about the human they're bonded with."
Cream then explained who Mukuroyukihime was, a Falcomon friend that joined them after she and Mocha got their Digimentals. Good-hearted, yet a little too serious. Someone like that would definitely be a fan favorite character, by the way Cream described them. "We had a friend join us for a bit as well. Kazuo, a Tentomon who was way too into human world anime, manga and video games. Spent most of his time eating junk food and watching TV in his little den before he met his human. Now I hear that he's a fairly competent fighter, which is surprising."
And as for Kaya... all Cream could do was suggest that he stay by her side, and she'll get stronger if she does so. Hawkeye nodded in response; she was right. That's all he could do, and hope Kaya would find her way. And going back to the leftover situation, Cream apparently wants to try and eat it all here. "Heh... it's your funeral." As Hawkeye was eating, he noticed how Cream would accidentally take sips of his drink from time to time. He didn't really mind since he was too focused eating, plus he had many refills anyways so it didn't matter in the end. But while Hawkeye was fairly tipsy himself (and very, VERY full,) Cream just seemed full on shit faced drunk. She started giggling to herself, then started making fun of Hawkeye's belly.
Hawkeye looked down; she had a point. His belly WAS bigger now, thanks to the massive amount of food he had just eaten. Like one of those anime characters after a big meal. Hawkeye began blushing... but not from embarrassment. "Heheheh, yeah, I guess I do have a big belly," the Hawkmon laughed as he started patting it. "I look like a balloon...!"
Yup, Hawkeye was shit-faced drunk now as well.
It didn't end there, Cream started telling Hawkeye that his laugh was funny sounding, and he should get a new one. "I do? How *hic* about this one?" Hawkeye would then take a big breath and make a laughing sound that sounded remarkably like Tidus' awkward sounding laugh from Final Fantasy X. The dignity of these two was plummeting faster than a safe falling off a cliff.
