Zack's head felt like it was full of noise. Noise, or maybe just an endless marching parade's worth of thoughts and worries. He was marching along the streets of Shibuya, just trying to clear his head. He had barely slept at all last night, frantically searching up anything about the tiny bug monster that had landed in his lap the previous night. She had no idea what she was or where she came from, all she could tell him were memories of a forest that seemed impossibly large to the tiny buzzing gal. Any interactions she had with another creature were fleeting, leaving her all alone in the world again, starving and desperate for companionship. Zack was astonished that she could talk if nothing else.
He paused in front of a televisions store, tapping his foot and pursing his lips. Where could he go? Who could he ask about this? If he went to the cops or the government...well, let's see, a foreign national showing up with a talking bug would probably go SUPER well with whatever the Japanese version of Area 51 was. He sighed, only to realize that the massive throng of people around his had suddenly vanished, he turned his head over to the wall of cutting edge televisions and saw them all displaying white, unreadable text on the same blue glowing screen as last night.
"Oh son of a bi-" He was cut off as the entire world around him changed and he, with nothing but Marigold and his backpack suddenly plummeted about 10 feet into a small pond large enough for him to make a jarringly loud KERSPLASH in. He gasped, pushing off the bottom and shoving himself into the muck, only having enough time to grab Marigold out of the netted side pocket of his bag, holding her up in the air with both hands as he shoved himself out of the muck, looking up...
And coming face to gawking face with the tall, ashen furred canine humanoid above him.

It was a pleasantly warm day, when Makoto had begun wandering out into the Server Woods. This time of the year, many of the fruits that tended to start growing on the bushes and trees during the spring were starting to grow properly ripe - and as a result, it wasn't uncommon for the occasional digimon of Rosewood to wander into the forest to do a spot of gathering. The Renamon-X in question would be no different, figuring that they could use whatever they found to bake some nice pastries, or otherwise just have a nice and sweet snack.
That, and there was always the occasional herbs and mushrooms that they could gather as well! Perhaps they could make a salad...?
Kuro, too, seemed to be in a good mood; their living shadow briefly flickering as it looked about at the trees above, trying to judge if any of the occasional fruit-laden boughs above held any particularly juicy looking fruit from its spot underneath the Renamon-X. <... How about these ones?> It'd eventually ask the fox though, 'speaking' through their mental link as it parted from Makoto's body to travel up one of the trunks, to get a better look at the boughs.
"Oh, that's a good eye, dear." Makoto responded with a warm chuckle. It was a bit on the tall side - but the Renamon-X's claws did well for gripping to the trunk as they'd climb up but a short distance, to reach a few of the prize fruits, and deposit them into their basket. "Do you think we could find enough to make a pie or two?" Makoto questioned with a curious hue - the day was still relatively young, so they had plenty of time to search... "I'm sure some of our friends in Rosewood would appreciate a slice of fresh pie!"
Kuro would respond to the question with a simple hum, murmuring <Perhaps.>
But before the duo's thoughts could go any further, the distant sound of a splash would catch their attentions - Makoto blinking a bit. "Huhm. What was that?" The fox wondered out loud, as they'd begin moving in the direction of the noise - taking a second to 'deposit' the basketful of fruit into their shadow; where it'd be safe, in the rare event that the splash was from something dangerous, like a feral digimon.
It didn't take long for them to find the source of the splash that they had heard, though - coming face to face with what looked to be a... Human, facedown in a pond, and holding up what looked to be a little Pupumon quite dramatically. As they approached, the human would look up to them - prompting a gentle chuckle from Makoto as they mentioned "Hello there, darling. Are you quite alright?" They weren't sure if this human was a newcomer - though given that they had a baby digimon with them, it seemed to be the likely answer. "Would you like me to help you up?"
Kuro, though, would remain quiet meanwhile - pretending to simply be Makoto's ordinary shadow. It was a very shy shadow, towards strangers - and it knew that some people found it a bit unnerving - so it preferred to just stay under the radar, until it could properly get used to these new people....

Zack had to shake the water out of his brain for a moment before he could respond, groaning and rolling his shoulders. He had belly flopped more than a little bit on the plate of lukewarm water and the stinging was clearly radiating up and around his skin. He groaned, pushing himself up onto the bank of muck surrounding the small pond, at least it was a nice day outside so the water wasn't enough to put him into shock. He waited until he had staggered up to his feet, his entire front side covered in a thick layer of mud and clay before he took stock of the lanky fox in front of him.
"Uhh, I appreciate the offer, really I do. But you'll have to excuse me for being a little bit out of sorts." He explained, looking down over himself and grumbling. "Though I'm afraid in my surprise I ruined my chance to make a first impression looking like anything other than a walking mud puddle." He apologized, flicking a gob of mud and gunk off of his cheek. he wasn't scrawny, skinny was a good word but it was clear that, with his body still shaking off the adrenaline of the sudden drop that he did have some amount of muscle on him. He opened his mouth to speak again before the tiny white-silver blob of a bug pokemon began shrieking in a voice that overpowered his own words, making one wonder where she was keeping the set of pipes she would need to shout like that.
"No! NO!" Marigold shouted, bouncing up and down in a voice that was wearing itself hoarse in the raw emotion that was being carried. Her wings fluttered and buzzed loudly though it was clear that if the tiny flits of sapphire material could even hoist her weight off the ground all in one go it would be a miracle and a half. "You can't have him. I WONT LET YOU TAKE HIM FROM ME!" She said in a voice so filled with a layer of rage that was paper thin over the abyssal depths of the fear and panic that were making her shake to the deepest part of her core.
"Hey, Hey..." Zack said, turning her around in his cupped palms to lock her eyes to his. He shushed her a couple of times, for a moment forgetting the large humanoid standing in front of him. "Look at me, Marigold. I said look at me." He said determined and insistent until she complied. "I made you a promise. I told you that I'm not going anywhere. You're never going to be all alone again. Didn't I say that?" He said, petting her little head until she was calm again and nodded in response to the rhetorical question. "That's right. I did say that. And I meant it. Nobody is taking me away..." He said, his eyes flicking up to Makoto with a voice and expression that wasn't hostile so much as it was firmly sure that his next words were nothing but the God's honest truth. "...nobody." He repeated, his body tensing slightly as if it had just now occured to him that his new conversation partner might not have his or the tiny bug's best interests at heart. it faded surprisingly quickly and a wide smile returned to his face. "Besides, Marigold, that is not how we greet new people. Hello, my name is Zack Zello. This is Marigold. And we are very, very confused." he offered freely.

At Zack's grousing, Makoto couldn't help a gentle but sympathetic chuckle. "It's quite alright, dear - it seems like it might've been something just a little bit out of your control." They'd respond, wondering if they had a towel within the storage of their shadow, to help the human wipe himself off. They'd take a time to reach their tail into their shadow to search around - no, that's their books, that's the basket of fruit, that's their tarot deck... ... There!
"There it is..." They'd murmur, pulling out a large towel - something that looked more suited to a picnic than actually cleaning off, but it was probably better than nothing - and offering it to Zack. "Here you are - go ahead and wipe yourself off, darling."
As the offer was made though, well, Marigold didn't seem to entirely approve of Makoto getting close to Zach; the little Pupumon near-immediately kicking up a fuss! As the little baby insect began to shout and yell, Makoto initially jolted in surprise - and even Kuro would jolt a bit, the edges of the fox's 'shadow' becoming briefly jagged in surprise. Oh dear - this little one had quite the pair of lungs on her, didn't she?
Zack, however, would be quick to reassure her before Makoto could even think to speak up - speaking to her in a firm tone, as he reassured her. Seeing this, the Renamon-X's expression would soften gently, quicky realizing what Marigold's worries were based off of the young man's own words. Poor thing - she was afraid of being alone; something that Makoto could easily sympathize with - perhaps even empathize, to a certain degree.
With Marigold soothed though, Zack would soon smile to Makoto and introduce himself and his partner - and the fox in question would smile back to him. "It's a pleasure to meet you both, dears. My name is Makoto - I'm a traveler who technically lives not too far from here, a city by the name of Rosewood." They'd introduce themself - and upon noticing that Kuro was moving, the shadow drifting along the grass to get a better look at Zach and Marigold, they'd gesture to Kuro and add "And this here is Kuro - it's a... Familiar, of sorts; my shadow made living. It's very shy towards strangers, so don't worry too hard if it's quiet right now."
Glancing back to Zach and Marigold though, Makoto would smile warmly to the two once more - peering to the little Pupumon in particular. "By the way... I'm sorry if I gave you a scare, Marigold darling." They'd begin in apology, their voice gentle and almost even motherly, as they crouched down to meet the Fresh digimon's height. "I have no intentions of taking Zach away from you, I promise - I'm sure he's a very special human to you, after all. It'll be rather hard to find someone who would want to take Zach away from you, at that - so it'll be okay, dear. Okay?"
With that though, they'd glance over to Zach, further speaking. "In any case though, it seems like you might be new to all of this, if I had to hazard a guess. Would you like me to guide you to Rosewood?" They'd offer, standing up fully once more. "I'd also be more than happy to answer any questions you have, as we move."
Certainly, they could've done a whole spiel on the Digital World, but well... Too much infodumping all at once, might break the poor man's head a bit, when he already seems to have been having one hell of a day. Best to just start with answering any questions he might have, and then filling in any important gaps once he's asked everything.

Before accepting the picnic blanket of a towel Zack would reach back, placing Marigold against the zipper of his now soaked backpack, placing her on top of it, zipping it open and pulling out a granola bar, peeling it open and handing it to her, letting the little big quiet herself as she scarfed it down. Though she wouldn't take a pair of angry and scared eyes off of Makoto for that entire span of time as if she were watching a cobra about to lash out at her and hers.
"Thank you very kindly." He said, beginning to wipe himself down, rolling the edge of the fabric over his entire body, though it was clear that most of the work was him using that edge to scoop off handful after handful of muddy gunk. he eventually got himself to a point where he was still soaked but wouldn't be tracking half a mud puddle around behind him wherever they went. "New at this is being very kind to the situation that we're currently in. I don't even know what "this" is. What Marigold is, what you are, where we are or how any of this happened. All I know is that in the middle of the night an egg appeared in my room, she has the memories of a very, very unpleasant previous life in her head and I have no earthy clue where to go from here. So anywhere you can show us or anything you can tell us would be appreciated, certainly." He said, finally sighing and reaching down, pulling up on the hem of his shirt and simply pulling it free of his shoulders, showing the fit body underneath as he held it in one hand so as to keep from getting any wetter as they walked if he could help it. He took off his shoes and socks and bundled them up in the shirt, slinging it over his shoulder. "Please, by all means, lead the way." He said, gesturing in front of him and following the fox as they walked.
He smiled down at the shadow as it followed behind Makoto, not wanting to say anything directly to it in case that he might spook it at all, though he was taking some steps to not step on top of Kuro if that was something that he shouldn't do. Marigold hopped up onto his shoulder from where he had placed her on the backpack and he kept the towel wrapped around his waist to soak up as much of the water as he could while they walked, tying it around his waist like a belt.
"Nobody's allowed to have my dad..." Marigold spoke up, her entire voice puffed up into a cute toddler-esque scowl, not taking her eyes off Makoto as they walked, switching shoulders if she had to to continue staring her down as if a look could kill.
"Marigold, be nice. Just like they said, nobody's going to take me away. You and I are in this for the long haul...whatever "this" is exactly." He said, smiling sheepishly at Makoto "I really am sorry about her and how ignorant we both are..." His voice and face quickly got serious. "Marigold has no idea who or what she even is or where she came from. She didn't have anybody taking care of or looking after her before I came along, it's a miracle she even knows how to talk." He said, following along behind Makoto dutifully.

Ahhh... So Marigold didn't have the happiest previous life - Makoto would nod gently and with visible sympathy, waiting until Zack was ready to go before they'd begin walking. "Where to start, where to start..." Makoto would begin with a gentle hum, pondering what to explain first. "... Well, I suppose the best place to start, is where we are. This is the Digital World that you're in now - you're somewhat far from home, as you may imagine. Don't worry though, darling - there's a number of ways for you to go back to the human world; although it's worth noting that such pathways will lead you to Shibuya, in Japan, - this is where the worlds are most reliably linked."
"To further explain, we are in the Eastern Timberlands, which - as it sounds - is in the eastern portion of the Digital World - and to be more specific, we are in the Server Woods. Rosewood City and the Village of Beginnings rest not far from here."
"And what Marigold and myself are, are Digimon - short for Digital Monster. As both terms - Digital World and Digital Monster - make it sound, our world and we ourselves are composed primarily of data, as opposed to the flesh and blood that humans and other lifeforms from your world are used to. Our forms are - to a certain degree - highly malleable and adaptable, as a result. "We can come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and as we grow older and stronger..." To demonstrate their next point, Makoto would take the form of their Champion Stage - Reppamon. "... We are able to access different forms through a process called Digivolution."
As Marigold spoke up though, continuing to stare over at them. Makoto couldn't help a gentle smile at the young little Pupumon and Zack both as they returned back to their Renamon-X form. "It's quite alright, darlings." They'd state simply, pulling a handbag out of their shadow with their tail, and beginning to idly search through it. "It sounds like you're very special to her, so I don't blame her for being protective of you."
Before long though, they'd pull out a few homemade soft caramels - unwrapping one to pop into their mouth, before offering the others to Zach and Marigold. "Would either of you two like a sweet? I fancy myself a bit of a confectioner, as a hobby of mine." And perhaps something sweet and tasty, would make a good olive branch, for placating little Marigold?
That being said, they'd also offer a gentle and sympathetic smile in Marigold's direction - continuing "It'll be okay, darling - I understand how you feel. But I can at least say, without a doubt, that you have a very special bond with your dad." This would be more directed at the both of them now, as the fox continued with a knowing tone "Nurture this bond, and understand each other the best you can, and you'll both be okay."
It wasn't too hard to guess that Zack and Marigold were bonded much like the other human-digimon pairs that wander the Digital World - and Makoto knew quite well, that such bonds can cause miraculous things, if nurtured well.

He followed along behind them, idly nodding to make sure that Makoto and Kuro knew that he was paying attention. Marigold was puffed up like a frog or perhaps a snake every time either of them would look down at her like she was just waiting for something to go immediately wrong the second she let her guard down. There was a soft, buzzing snarl that came from her gritted jaws that only partially subsided as Zack ran two fingers down her back, a soft and gentle gesture that seemed to abate the anger and fear in the little blob.
"Huh, who would have figured all of those Isekai writers were right, you do have the best chance of ending up in another world if you get run over by a truck in the middle of the scramble crossing." He snickered to himself, obfuscating just how unreal and surreal all of this felt by hiding behind his large pool of reference so that he could latch onto something he understood instead of just stopping dead in his tracks and letting all of that new information break his brain in half. "It's alright though, Shibuya is where I'm going to school so getting right back there is perfectly fine by me." He offered, not wanting either of his kind new guides to think that they would end up stranding him if they got him back to Shibuya. "So you're not animals, per se. You build cities, you talk, you bond with one another. You're more like another whole category of intelligent life, like an entire evolutionary tree made up of talking, sentient beings." he nodded, repeating it back to them in his own words to roll the idea around in his head and make sure he got a handle on it. He did jump a little bit at the jolt of light that left them in a totally new form. He blinked blankly a few times before nodding slowly, having to take a moment to fully digest that one too. "Sooo...what I'm hearing is that Marigold isn't going to fit in the side pocket of my backpack forever? Good to know, good to know." He said, trying to blithely hide behind the parts of this that he could relate back to the mundane just to keep it all straight before his eyes started spinning in his head.
"Hmm? Hmmm..." Marigold perked up, at first questioning the intention of the extended candy gift before Zack reached out and took one, unrolling it and popping one into his cheek, chewing it with a smile so that Marigold could see that it wasn't going to hurt her. he then took another, unrolled it and wagged it in his fingers.
"Here comes the airplane...nyoo, nyoo~" He swished it back and forth in the air in front of her until she was unable to be grumpy about it any longer, opening her wide mouth that took up at least half her face, unrolling her tongue and letting him place it there, sucking her tongue back in and chomping down on it, her eyes lighting up with a sparkling delight.
" 's goo'!" She cooed, having to shove the words out of her mouth around the amber colored muck that she was working her jaw over. She listened to Makoto talk in the soothing, welcoming voice, sending a look up at her dad before nodding. "Thank you." She said, a genuine smile shaking her gloom, the first time Zack had ever seen her smile that wasn't either him or a chocolate bar.

Though Makoto knew full well that Zack was joking over the Isekai Truck mention - the fox gently chuckling - they'd nonetheless clarify "Less trucks, and more computers, I would suppose." Last thing anyone needed was someone to think that running out into the streets was a good idea, for sure.
But nonetheless, as Zack elaborated upon the level of intelligence that digimon had and the like, Makoto nodded. "We're just as varied in intelligence and personality as humans are. Although it may be worth mentioning that there are also digimon whose minds are completely bestial or otherwise 'primitive' in nature - those who live away from civilization, much like the animals of your world do. Typically, we refer to these digimon as being 'feral' or 'wild'." They'd explain.
"For this reason though, dear, I advise against wandering far from the quieter and more civilized parts of the Digital World; at least not until Marigold grows big and strong enough to protect you, or unless you have another digimon to accompany you." Makoto would caution Zack next, concern apparent. "All but the youngest and smallest of digimon are able to do real harm to a human, if one does try to attack; your kind are far more fragile than our own."
With the subject of digivolution however, Makoto couldn't help a gentle chuckle, nodding. "Digimon are able to switch between their forms more or less freely - so if Marigold genuinely desired, she could choose to go back to that form. However, most typically do prefer sticking to a modest or otherwise medium-sized form outside of combat. One part because after a certain point, one's strongest forms will become tiring for a digimon to maintain outside of when they're in a fight - and one part because most digimon tend to feel pretty vulnerable, in their smallest forms"
Smiling a bit humorously, they'd add "In addition to the first point, it's a little bit awkward to try and interact with one's community, when you're the size of a house."
Seeing Marigold enjoy the caramel was quite the happy sight, though - Makoto always enjoyed seeing their work put smiles on other peoples' faces, and this was no different. Makoto smiled warmly and brightly in the little baby bee's direction, nodding and responding "Of course, darling; thank you as well."

"Dad can I have another one?" She said up at him, her voice was so tiny and musical, like a little bell that bounced off of the trees around them. It sounded quiet and weak but still had some kind of draw that forced every ear to turn to it just because of how it made the basic protection instincts of most beings react. Zack paused in the middle of the path, motioning for Makoto and Kuro to pause as well.
"I'm not the person to ask, now am I, darling?" He said, lifting her up in both hands and holding her out toward Makoto. The Renamon would be able to see a shiver running down the off white body of the tiny bug blob. This had probably been as close as she'd dare get to any being that wasn't Zack in this life, as short as this new life was already. Her eyes jerked from Makoto's snout and the jaws that were part of it, to the heavy obsidian colored claws that made it clear that the walking fox-person was not someone to be messed with. She puffed up a little, her eyes becoming more and more determined.
"May...may I..." She started, beginning to glow as her body changed around her, turning from a tiny blob into a shape that was standing up on two small, nubby little legs with matching nubby arms. Gold exoskeletal skin with those same tiny black eyes locked on Makoto's. "M-may I have another, please?" She said, making the request and then flopping onto her little butt in the palm of his hand. Zack placed her to sit on his shoulder and gave her a little round of applause.
"Marigold! You did so good, look at you!" He said, scooping a hand into one of the pockets of his still soaked bag and pulling out a small crimson bandanna, flicking and cracking it like a whip so that it would dry out a little before he tied it tightly around her neck until it became a cherry red scarf that made her look distinct from any other member of her species. "Thank you both, so much." He said, looking Makoto dead on and then straight down at Kuro. "I don't know where on earth or...where in the Digital World we would have ended up if you two didn't take some pity on us."

It was clear that Marigold was a little nervous near Makoto - not only in her body language, but also in her scent - and the fox wouldn't blame her for feeling that way. She was much smaller than themself, after all - a young little Fresh Pupumon, compared to the Renamon-X who just displayed the capability of digivolving to Champion. As Marigold got up the nerve to speak to them though, Makoto would smile to her sweetly and patiently - simply speaking "Take as much time as you need, darling - it's okay." in gentle encouragement.
And before long, the baby bee would indeed find the courage to speak to them proper - all the while, being able to digivolve to the In-Training Puroromon! Makoto's eyes lit up in happiness at seeing the young child grow - and in addition to this, little Marigold would be able to even ask to have another sweet!
Zack wasted no time in praising Marigold - giving her a little crimson bandana that Makoto thought looked quite nice on her - as well as thanking Makoto and Kuro both - to which the fox chuckled. "Of course, darling. There's enough trouble in the Digital World as it is, with something always seeming to happen one after another - no point in not sharing some kindness with those around you." They'd respond simply, smiling over to the duo. "And speaking of sharing..."
Now they'd turn their attention to Marigold proper, continuing with a warm smile "... You, of course, may have another. Thank you for being so polite, dear - and congratulations on digivolving." With that, they'd start digging through their purse to retrieve another caramel - pulling it out, and offering it to Marigold. "There you go, darling; you're quite the sweet little bee, aren't you?" They'd affectionately tease, smiling gently.
Glancing over to Zack though, they'd also ask him "Would you like another caramel too, Zack dear?"

Marigold took the sweet in her short arms, wrestling with it to undo the spiral of plastic that was holding it in place. Even as she struggled with the wrapping, Zack didn't move to help her. Not directly anyway. There was a difference between protecting and teaching her versus coddling her or spoiling her. He did offer a small bit of advice.
"Pull on the wrapping from both sides and it will come undone by itself, sweet pea." He said, gently coaxing the inspiration of of her as she pulled the sweet until it spun out of the wrapping and she was able to excavate it from the holder. She popped it into her mouth, sitting down with a heavy satisfaction as Zack set her back on his shoulder. She chomped the sweet eagerly, her ravenous, opened mouth chewing acting as the most genuine compliment that she could possibly give to the quality of the confection. She looked up at Makoto and smiled, blushing and looking away as she finally registered the compliment.
"Thank you." She said, the glistening wings across her back buzzed and shuddered as she turned away from the compliment, giggling to herself at it and continuing to chomp down on the gooey sweet that left amber-bronze strands of the sugary treat connecting her top jaw to her bottom. Zack took the opportunity for some slight parenting in that moment.
"Marigold, it's rude to chew with your mouth open. Not everyone needs to see what you're eating. Though I'm sure they appreciate the compliment." He said, holding up a hand to politely decline the second sweet on his own account. "No thank you, my weak spot has always been the fruity hard candy, if you know what I'm talking about." He said, before nodding at them outlining their reasons for helping him and Marigold. "Exactly, that's exactly what I think. Marigold, I want you to know one thing above everything else. You never need a reason to help someone in need, that should be your default method of thinking. If you ever have a reason not to help someone, you had better be very sure it's a good one."
"Ok dad." She said, softly absorbing the lesson in the way children do while she passed the caramel from one cheek to the other.

Seeing Zack gently teach Marigold how to unwrap the caramel, as well as some general manners, would bring a smile to Makoto's face once more. It was good to see that he seemed to take well to the role of being a parent to little Marigold - and Marigold, in turn, was a rather sweet child, even if she didn't necessarily trust strangers easily. "Of course, dear." Makoto would respond to the 'thank you' from the baby bee, before turning their attention to Zack as he spoke.
Hearing that Zack enjoyed more fruity candy, Makoto chuckled and nodded, smiling wryly. "I'll keep that in mind, if we ever meet again, then." They'd muse out loud, briefly wishing to themself that they had thought to bring some citrus drops with them as well. They really ought to make some more candy later, next time they get home; there was a recipe that they had been meaning to try out...
As Zack elaborated upon the value in being kind though, and that one should always help others, Makoto would smile down to Marigold. "It's okay if that reasoning is that you're not feeling well, that you're injured, or otherwise that you're feeling exhausted or drained, though." They'd explain gently and knowingly - continuing "If you burn yourself out or hurt yourself without taking the time to take care of yourself and recharge, then you won't be able to help those around you. Your own health - mental, physical, and emotional - are all important, too."
"But I agree, otherwise; helping out wherever you're able is a good thing to do, and the friends you make doing so will likely be more than happy to return the favor if you ever find yourself in need." Makoto concluded.

Both Zack and Marigold gave Makoto slightly disbelieving looks as they outlined their personal definitions for the reasons not to help someone in the case that they themselves didn't have the ability. Zack ended up giving them a slight grin though, he appreciated the advice at the very least even if it was clear that trying to make him worry about himself more than others. It was clear just from the look in his eye that that wasn't the kind of person that he was and most likely by the property of being his newly adopted daughter, Marigold was going to end up in more or less the same boat.
"You're good people, you two. Really." He said, offering the praise without explanation or the need for expansion or caveat. He may have personally disagreed on their philosophy of kindness but that didn't mean that he was going to fight them on it. "This is a beautiful place too, makes me wonder what else there is to se-" He was cut off by a hitch in his motion and his breath. By the time that Makoto would look over at him, they would see a long, thin strand of some kind wrapped around his throat. It was thin and silvery, meaning it could only come from an insect type Digimon of a similar kind of Marigold.
Looking up in the canopy of trees wouldn't reveal the culprit immediately, the strand going up and up until it vanished in the overlapping layers of leafy cover as it pulled up on him tighter, almost beginning to hang him as his fingers clawed at the makeshift noose. By the time that Makoto was able to react, there might already be serious damage done.
"Dad, D-dad!" Marigold said, clearly in a panic, her eyes wide, her head shifting back and forth as if looking for a solution before she looked straight up. Kicking off of her father's shoulder and shooting in a direct vertical, without hesitation toward the source of the strand, a look of pure animalistically protective rage on her face.

Makoto didn't necessarily believe the advice they had given to be a philosophy, per se. Just more a thing of common sense; you helped more people in the long run by pacing yourself, and making sure that you're not burning yourself out, than you would if you sacrificed all self care to try and help others around you. You wouldn't be able to help people if you were sick, maimed, or dead; and there are sometimes people that you are just incapable of helping out, depending on the conditions and situations.
Nonetheless, as they continued to walk along, Zack would begin to speak - prompting Makoto to smile in the duo's direction. "I appreciate that, darling," They'd respond, continuing "You two are quite the pleasant dears as well."
However, things would soon take a turn for the dangerous; something that the group wouldn't immediately realize, at least... Not until Zack's voice would suddenly cut off, prompting the fox to glance over in his direction, questioning "Is everything alright, Z--" However, they'd cut themselves off upon noticing what was happening - a thin strand of insect's silk wrapped tight around his throat, and the scent of an unfamiliar digimon in the air...
Snarling, the fox would waste no time in protecting Zack - producing a shadowy warfan in one of their hands, that they'd use to slice away at the silk; using their opposite arm to coax Zack behind them, once they were sure that he wasn't about to asphyxiate to death. "Stay Close." They'd command, growling low and protectively, leaving as little room for argument as possible. Even Kuro appeared agitated, the shadow's edges jagged, a flash of fangs and claws displayed in its otherwise amorphous shape.
However, despite the command, Marigold would be quick to act - "Marigold!" Makoto called, not wanting the young In-Training digimon to be hurt - but the baby bee would nonetheless fly onwards, up into the canopy.
<I'll follow her.> Kuro stated - the presence of its voice in Makoto's and Zack's minds like the rumble of a snarling beast as the shadow climbed up along the side of one of the nearby trees, to give chase. Hopefully, whatever it was that had tried to attack Zack, the shadow would be able to keep Marigold safe; especially as Makoto digivolved into Reppamon once more.

Zack coughed and hacked upon being able to breath, greedily sucking up as much air as he could as he tottered back against Makoto. He would have completely collapsed if they hadn't been there to prop him up. The choking had been especially violent, a slight red tint around the edges of his eyes and a deep line carved into the flesh of his neck, though it didn't look like it broke the skin and he certainly wasn't bleeding at all.
"M-marigold." He wheezed, reaching out a weak hand to stop her before she ended up getting herself hurt on his behalf. She shot up through layer after layer of leaves like a bullet, blasting past or through branches if they got in her way. The upshot of having such a small body that was still capable of quick flight was that she was able to follow the strand-noose directly upwards without stopping or slowing down. When she zeroed in on the attacker, what she found was a large, fat worm. Black, green and pink were the colors that met her eye. Makoto and Kuro would have been able to recognize it as a Wormon but Marigold had neither the knowhow, nor the care in that moment to question what it was she was looking at. All she knew was that it had attacked her father in broad daylight, lying in weight like a predator. She Shot forward towards it, not even giving it a chance to react as she began to glow again, rays of light shooting from between the leave of the canopy as she crashed through the branches in her new form.
The bright, glittering gold of her previous form was maintained but she was now much larger, about the size of a large dog if not a few notches bigger still. The tiny silver stinger that had once been nearly decoration on her smaller body was now big and forged like a serrated knife. Her wings were twin pairs of large, silver limbs that carried her at high and powerful speeds, eight claw tipped limbs threw their force into shouldering the insect Digimon from its perch, sending it bouncing off of the lower branches before it landed with a dusty THUD at the forest floor. She didn't rest on her laurels then, spinning in the air to dive, her bladed stinger pointed down with a look of abject animal rage in her eyes.
