Kshin tapped a claw on the table as he was staring at his paws while Zack spoke. What he said made sense and he said "Finding the courage to do what's right isn't as easy as others around me have made it look. Yet it makes sense at some level that even Mandrake and Lothar get scared even when they digivolve."
When Marigold mentioned that Kshin looked cool, he blushed briefly before he said "I guess the karate training with LJ paid off. All I new was I that a handspring was the best way to deliver the blow needed when my tail hammer grew."
When Zack mentioned outfits he was worn he mentioned Mandrake which confused not just the Wizardmon at the table but Lothar and Kshin as well the confusion written on their faces. "Sounds like your holosuit, Mandrake." Lothar said recovering from the shock.
"Indeed it does, old friend. Tell me Zack, how were you able to describe my holosuit when we just met today and we haven't used ours for awhile?" Mandrake asked leaning toward Zack trying to prompt an answer while resting his hands on the table.

"Call it an educated guess." Zack said, smiling and giving Mandrake a wink. "Honestly? You're a real life stage magician who, whether intentionally or not, called yourself Mandrake. I suppose my pop culture addled mind just made the connection before I saw what it actually was." He added with a shrug. "Stage magicians tend to have a certain...dress code, especially those that go for a more classical persona in their work. That and my brain is programmed to see tropes and patterns even when they're not there. Suppose I got lucky this time."
"Yep, one cannot overstate my father's obsession with all things spandex clad and superheroic!" She said, holding up two of her legs in a flexing strongman pose before letting it drop with a giggle. "Always a comic book in hand or at least somewhere nearby." She said, poking and rummaging around in the backpack that Zack had brought with them, pulling out a glossy, full trade copy of some comic volume or another with her mandibles, laying it out on the table. Interestingly enough, it was a collection of a "Zatanna" mini series with the exact kind of classical magician's look that Zack was describing for Mandrake.

"I see." Mandrake said to Zack's explanation before he said "I didn't exactly give myself the name. Though I don't know why my mother did and couldn't ask her since I was barely a week old when she was murdered. Apparently she told my father my name before she died or he got the information by reading her mind. With him he isn't always what one would consider an open book."
"The only thing Theron seems open with is his love for mischief and his need to protect his village and family. In some ways you have taken after him, Mandrake." Lothar said with a chuckle.
"Yes I am like my father in some ways but he is definitely much more prone to mischief than I am. Maybe that's where I take after my mother." Mandrake said chuckling in turn.
Kshin looked at the comic book Marigold brought out and said "Wow. She's pretty for a human. That and her outfit has some similarities to the one you wear in your holosuit, when it comes to color scheme anyway. You where pants anyway though."

Zack and Marigold decided to quietly listen and nod along as the story of Mandrake's parentage was told and a little bit more of his family history was given out to the both of them. Zack nodded and smiled, tucking the comic away as to not be a distraction before piping up to continue on with the conversation on his own end.
"I'm sorry to hear about your mother, and that your relationship with your father seems...a tad complex." He said, smiling as their steaming and delicious smelling plates were plopped down in front of them, Zack and marigold digging in with gusto. "But for what it's worth, I don't think you have to worry about any family issues, you seem to have quite a nice little family of your own these days. One parent is a classy, wise magician and entertainer...the other is built like an eighteen wheeler from Krypton and they have the most adorable little purple kid I have seen in my, admittedly short, life." He said, joking as he took a long drag from his drink and continued with the ritual of stuffing his face.

As Zack put away the comic the food Mandrake's family had ordered had arrived. Mandrake's meal was dwarfed when compared to either Lothar or Kshin's meals but to the trio Mandrake's relatively small appetite was normal. The food was barely on the table for mere seconds before Kshin began stuffing his face as if he momentarily forgot he had knowledge of table manners. Catching Mandrake's disapproving gaze out of the corner of his eye, Kshin slowed down eating more politely but still no less eager. Apparently the newly digivolved rookie had built up quite an appetite between battling and reaching his rookie form.
"My father managed to raise me well enough. I guess in that regard I am fortunate." Mandrake said as he watched Zack and Marigold eat with eagerness that rivaled Kshin. Lothar had begun eating as well. As Mandrake listened to Zack some confusing comic references came forth again but he understood enough of it. "Hard to believe that Lothar and I have two kids seeing how young we are but neither of us think bringing either child into our lives was a mistake."
Kshin finished chewing and swallowed his food before he said "If Mandrake and Lothar didn't find me on the streets of Whitewater who knows if I'd still be around today. Since they adopted me I gained not only two new parents but an older brother and grandparents in the form of Lothar's parents and Mandrake's dad. I still wish my parents and grandpa weren't murdered though."

Marigold nodded, continuing to stuff her face with the leafy greens, sprouts and fruits that her massive salad consisted of. She finished a large mouthful and then took a long drink to wash it all down. Zack didn't actually seem to bother her about her own table manners because his didn't seem to be much better. Whether that was a function of Zack as a person or just the fact that he was an American was anybody's guess.
"I don't really know what happened to my family either." Marigold said, taking a break from her eating after Kshin explained how he ended up in the care of his two fathers. "I just sort of "woke up" totally alone, in the middle of the forest. It wasn't...it wasn't good. I died really quickly. By the time I showed up in the middle of my Dad's room I was so scared of everything and so sad and alone that I just broke down crying at the first sight of someone other than me." She said, tucking back into her meal. Not wanting to linger on the unfortunate circumstances before her current life for too long.
"None of that anymore, though. She's my little girl and she's going to have everything she needs, no matter what so long as I'm alive to say anything about it." He said, softly pushing his plate forward a little bit as he finished up the last of his food, leaning over and pecking a kiss on the top of Marigold's head.

"Sounds like you and Kshin are fortunate that you don't have to go through life alone. Not everyone is as fortunate." Mandrake said with a sigh before he continued "Zack. Marigold. When Lothar and I found Kshin he was living on the streets of Whitewater as an orphan living in a gang of young thieves. We met Kshin when he was involved in an attempt by the gang leader to pick our pockets but the sneaky Dorumon was caught in the act Kshin getting left behind when the rest of the gang provided Dorumon cover to flee."
"I don't really miss that Dorumon though but I wonder how a couple of the gang are doing. I didn't see them when we were last in Whitewater." Kshin said.
"Turned out when we were making sure if Kshin was alright we found a small chip on him. Aside from a message left by Kshin's grandfather there was a map to the ruins of an ancient city. Later we adventured there with another tamer named Hana and her twin partners, a Hagurumon named Data and a Keramon called Rush. It turns out we were followed there by the very pirates responsible for the murder of Kshin's family. Fortunately Mandrake was able to drive away most of the pirates who were looting the town with an illusion but the pirate captian was a more difficult problem as she was a mega and I was injured during the conflict." Lothar said before he continued "I was knocked unconscious for a time and since I was the only one that could reach mega at the time things were bad."
"What happened next was awesome though. Mandrake DNA digivolved with the DNA digivolved form of Data and Rush and they became ChaosGallantmon X. With that new form we were able to defeat and capture the pirate captain Ouryumon and dropped her off with Whitewater authorities." Kshin said with a huge smile before continuing to eat.

Both Zack and Marigold's eyes got much wider as they listened to the amazing sound story, Zack's eyes sparkled, always one for a good tale about right overcoming wrong. There was nothing about the story that he wasn't already inclined to believe. Honestly having been plopped into the middle of the Digital World of madness only so recently he had already gotten to the point where he was able to believe just about anything, not that he was a cynical sort beforehand. Marigold pushed her plate away gently, finishing her own meal and using one of the folded cloth handkerchiefs to dab around the corners of her glimmering silver mandibles.
"You know...one thing about the Digital World that I've learned so far, and I'm not sure if it excites me or terrifies me more than anything is that it seems like literally, LITERALLY anything can happen." He said, drumming his fingers on the table as he rolls the idea around in his mind. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm obviously the kind of person who likes a good feeling of adventure. But the story you just told me sounds like it would be a stress nightmare and that I'd sleep like the dead for a week and a half afterwards." he said, tilting his head back to finish the rest of his drink cup, placing it gently down on top of the coaster that had come with the beverage. "it's good to know that you three live in exciting times though, which reminds me." he said, pulling something along the lines of a business card from one of the pockets of his backpack, handing it to Mandrake. it had his personal phone number, where he was staying and some other useful information. "We should keep in touch. We both seem to like helping people, and our kids seem to get along which is really the important part."
Marigold, for her part, was half proving him right, making silly faces across the table at Kshin, making herself giggle in the attempt to make him.

"Well Lothar and I are wanderers by nature and have a love of adventure so having exciting lives makes sense. Our eldest has taken up our adventurous lifestyle." Mandrake said with a chuckle before finishing what was left of his small meal. Looking around he noticed the other digimon at the table had made short work of their food but Mandrake was used to the likes of Lothar, LJ, and even Kshin eating politely with the voracious appetites akin to locusts while he tended to take his time with most meals.
"I hope LJ gets the hang of his magic soon. I would hate to be talking to him only for him to randomly begin floating off." Kshin said.
Mandrake accepted the card from Zack and passed his and Lothar's Tamernet info to Zack in exchange. "Staying in contact sounds like a good idea." he said before a mischievous glint appeared in his eyes and he, with a chuckle, then said "Besides judging by what happened today it seems you also have a knack for trouble." Kshin, meanwhile, was looking at Marigold as she was making funny faces before he giggled and started making faces in turn.

"I ought to have a knack for it, considering I spend way too much of my own time going out and looking for it." He said, looking at the two kids mugging at one another across the table. Sure he COULD have told them to cut it out but honestly it was just far too cute and wholesome for him to try and interfere with it. "I mean, you and I only met today because I saw something that was none of my business and decided to start a fight I knew I probably couldn't win by myself. When it comes to judging risk I'm worse at THAT math than I am at regular math." He explained, tucking the card into the side pocket of his jacket.
"Oh yea, my dad's math is BAD. If he ever makes some kind of calculation you should probably just do it again before his "skills" get himself hurt." He said, snickering into her hand as she called out her father for his poor math skills in front of everyone. Causing him to cross his arms and roll his eyes.
"My math is good enough to know that I can cover all of this pretty comfortably. You guys saved my bacon out there today, least I can do is use some of my mom's care packages to cover lunch." He said, gesturing to the waiter with only one finger to ask for a single check for all five of them. "Besides, I suppose we're in a celebration of Kshin coming into his own and showing some bullies what for. if that's not the right idea for a party than I don't know what is...I wonder if this is one of those places where they come out and sing for birthdays. Now THAT is something I would love to see Digimon do." he said, winking as Kshin as he only half joked about invoking the embarassing public ritual for the young Digimon's growth and accomplishments of the day.

Mandrake and Lothar watched Kshin and Marigold making faces at each other and chuckled at the two rookies. Like Zack it didn't seem to bother them either so apparently he wasn't all that bothered by it himself. "Well no one is good at everything and there is no shame in being a little bad at math. I wasn't very good with close range weaponry for the longest time even after I reached ultimate for the first time. Since I began sword fighting with Lothar I have gotten better though. Sure would of been handy knowledge back when I was Impmon and able to magically summon a scythe."
Overhearing Mandrake's words Kshin stopped making faces and turned to Mandrake before he said "As Impmon you could magically create a scythe. That's so cool! Hey maybe that's why LJ can magically conjure weapons as Leomon X. It could be a variation of your attack Mandrake."
Kshin's words had Mandrake thinking for a moment before he simply said "Maybe, Kshin. I never thought about it before though."

A server digimon tucked the check down in front of Zack. he didn't balk at the price he read on it, he didn't even really let the other see it before he grabbed some money out of his wallet, placed it down onto the bill and then added a couple extra for a tip.
"One of the weirdest thing about all this digital world stuff is just having to carry around two different kinds of cash. I mean, I got confused at least thirty times having to count things out in Yen when I moved to Japan in the first place." He said, a shiver running down his spine as he remembered the way he used to turn white when he heard something cost like two thousand or four thousand yen before his brain actually kicked into gear and remembered how the currency worked. he pushed himself up from his chair. "Well alright folks, I think we've all had enough excitement for one day. I hope to see everyone soon, hopefully under less stressful circumstances. Maybe we can do a whole act in your show next time." He said, winking to Mandrake.

The bill had arrived and Zack dealt with it before he began talking about how he had to become used to carrying two types of cash. "When it comes to carrying two types of cash I know that all too well since I have been making regular trips between the Human and Digital Worlds respectively. Getting used to bits and yen and avoiding bringing out the wrong one was rough at first until I learned to carry them in seperate places on my person to avoid confusion." Mandrake said admitting for the first time one of the early struggles he had in the Human World.
Then Zack mentioned hoping they would meet under less stressful circumstances. Mandrake nodded before he said "Yes one can only hope our next meeting will be more peaceful and since you seem to be a natural with an audience I wouldn't mind inviting you to help with a performance again." Getting to his feet and using his telekinesis to lift his staff into his right hand while Lothar and Kshin got up in turn, Mandrake said "Well then until we meet again. Take care of yourselves you two." Mandrake returned Zack's wink with a mischievous one of his own before he turned himself invisible as he slowly vanished from sight. If Zack and Marigold looked around they would of seen that Lothar and Kshin, as if on to what Mandrake was up to, had ducked out of sight while Mandrake had the tamer and bee digimon's attention.
