They're Taking the Hobbits to Ys-engard [Ask]

In time’s like this, Manami wished she had been more cognizant regarding the lay of land, at least when it came to the modern Digital World. Had she known she could use things like Trailmons to move from one place to another, a lot of hiking would’ve been avoided. However, that wasn’t an entirely bad thing. The north on itself was a decently pleasant location; the relative loneliness, and digimons mostly mind their own business made it far superior to more densely populated areas.
Even if, ironically enough, the very reason why she was here was to seek a city; even if not big about them, the rumors about it depicted it as quite magnificent. Maybe even the most magnificent city Northern Providence ever had. Manami knew for certain that some of those were bound to be exaggerations, but it wasn’t like she had a lot better to do, other than to chase away boredom.
This city would, of course, prove to be even more interesting than what she had predicted, even if for the wrong reasons. Whatever the cause, it seemed like the digimon’s body was just… rejected from the general premises. It was very obviously some kind of barrier, but also an annoyance to indescribable extents. A sigh of aggravation escaped the Trickmon’s mouth while she began searching for other travelers. Maybe they’d know why she wasn’t allowed in?
Luckily, it didn’t take long for her to find where the road where a steady-ish trickle of digimons entered and exited. Understandably, it was near a Trailmon station, but it wasn’t like that mattered to her. It didn’t take her a lot of time to close the gap between herself and a random digimon that happened to be walking through the pathway.
“Heeeey~!” She called out. “Do you know why I can’t enter the city? My body just bounces against it.”
The digimon, a Mojyamon, just stared at the hat-like digimon, some disdain on its expression. “The city repels two-bit thieves and the like passively. Friendly tip; you should scram before you get into trouble.”
The next sequence of events happened in a flash, and anyone not observing the interaction would’ve probably missed it. A two-pronged sword, roughly the size of the Moyjamon’s body or maybe even a little bigger pierced the digimons body, immediately dismantling it into bits of pieces of data.
“Oops. It slipped.” The digimon’s body reverted back to her trickmon form instantly, and Manami proceeded to pick a loose data strand as the rest flew away. Maybe her approach was failing somehow? Maybe adopting a human’s guise would work better to interact with what could evidently be extremely rude digimons. Thus, a teenage-looking human with pigtails began to make her way to the station.
“Heeeey~!” She called out at the next lifeform that crossed her path. “Do you know why I can’t enter the city? My body just bounces against it.”

This would in theory not have been the first time that Gihai had ever been to the Ancient City of Ys, she had been here once before with Aya and Coolmon...so this'd be the first time she came here on her own! Finding a road on the Shining Sea to get there was easy enough, that sense of direction of hers -was- starting to get a lot better now that she had the cognizant realization that sometimes you should not walk into random portals on the road... Speaking of random shit on the road, though. There was a rather curious scene at the entrance to the city. Well, it was more accurate to say it was a Trailmon station that led near the entrance...Regardless, there was someone with a distinct appearance (what sort of hairstyle was that? ) asking why she couldn't seem to enter the city. Gihai was admittedly a bit versed on the subject of Memoria, but...not too much. Still. This person clearly needed help! And what does the Cool Knight do? Help people! The Guilmon waddled up to Manami. "I dunno--I think it's due to how the barrier works. Malicious intent's just barred from the city...Yet, I dunno why it'd bar a human from entering, I mean...What can a lone human do against a city full of Digimon?" Gihai, no, did you forget about Spirit Wielders? "I dunno if the barrier's perfect all the time, though..." The green Guilmon mused...

"...Hm," a Black Guilmon of strange build looked on from a watchtower. There seem to be... a rather strange disturbance in the air. He can't quite pinpoint what though... What a craptastic thing, though all thing considered... because at the moment he can't evolve past Adult stage. Koharu's declining mental health was the cause. She graduated and all, yet her dream got dashed. While normally things like that won't bother her so much, perhaps... there was bigger cause to this. But even then...
"...Anego, did you feel that or that was just me?"
"Mmmm..."
Kon-chan meanwhile is looking around in her binocular. There's... something that feels wrong, but at the same time... could it be just her thought?
"...Is Koharu around?" Kon-chan asked.
"Hmmm Aneki? She said she's doing some checkup on the submarine and all tha--"
"Perfect, tell her we'll check around. Digimons senses can be wrong sure, but... for someone like us, it might not be just mere... "nothing", if you got me."
"Hmn... I really sure hope that it was nothing though..."
The two immediately returned to where their partner is and explained their thoughts. Something... seem to be a problem, and it might be prudent to go check, just in case.
"I mean checking is fine and dandy, but would you even know where to even start?" Koharu asked as she steered the submarine. It's currently floating about a foot from the ground.
"That in itself is the problem, but just in case probably look around the trails of tourists or something..." Kon-chan suggested. "It might be some fight or something."
"So other than danger, I assume you don't know much?"
"That's so," Warg nodded.
"Hmmm... I really hope it's nothing... But sure, I guess I'll follow the trails..."
And so Koharu directed her steering closer to the train track. And before long...
"Oh right it branched..."
Right, there are too many railways heading to Ys of course... Even if there are like... four rails when it ended up in Ys, it's still like multiple of them branching on shining sea. It's very... wide after all. Well, Komondomon that goes around here helps too.
"...Huh wait there's signal up front."
"Hmmm? Where where? From who?"
"Eeeeh... they don't have digivice on their person so.... there are two of them."
"Two? Hum... Just two?"
Strange... this path is closer to Snowflake so there supposed to have more passengers usually at this time.... oh wait, they're further to Ys than the station, which means.... someone who probably got in trouble or something? Should she help?
Just as she started thinking more about it, the two signals entered her view. Koharu deactivated the hovercraft of the submarine and opened the hatch.
"Ahoy there! Do you need any help?" she asked just to be sure.

And another fruitless answer ensued. At least the following digimons that she had asked about this event had been quite more polite than the Mojyamon. No casualties had happened since that incident, but there hadn’t been any progress either. Quite the vexing situation.
This situation followed exactly like that until the disguised digimon and a green Guilmon crossed paths and more or less said something that Manami wanted to hear. She nodded effusively at her words. “Exactly! I don’t really know why the city’s rejecting me if I’m just an inoffensive researcher, you know? I just wish to expand my horizons!” Not the entire truth, but not a complete lie either. “It just beats me why that thing is blocking my access, and no one wants to give me an answer either. Think it got broken somehow?”
Burdening a young lifeform with questions like this one was probably a pointless endeavor, but it might be worth it? Considering that the lizard seemed smarter than any of its peers, it was at the very least worth a shot.
And, even if the Guilmon’s wisdom proved to not reach far into a matter like this one, maybe the gentle human that just appeared would prove that the entirety of her species wasn’t mostly worthless. “Oh hey!” She greeted, waving energetically at the person and her submarine. Quite fancy, she had to admit. “I can’t enter Ys cause my body gets rejected or something by the dome surrounding it. Do you know how to fix that? I’d really like to get inside!”
Was it really something fixable? Guess they'd find out soon enough.

Why would the city ever reject a strange looking human...? That was what was puzzling to her, so cryptic yet...Hm. She had to think on what she knew of the city's strange shield that also kept out the malevolent. She had at least heard rumor that it also acted on impure thoughts, or thoughts of malevolence...
"Maybe you thought something dirty? Like handholding or something." A pause. "...I'm really sorry if I'm not helping, I'm not really the smartest thing in the world..." Oh hey, another person! And a...Submarine? "...Whaaa...?" Gihai murmured, quietly, staring at the submarine with lizard eyes. "I think something big would need to happen to cause it to break, like...something to divert resources away from the main barrier."
Conjecture, but...she had to offer something, right? She looked to the dubiously flat human and her sub. "Uhhh, this nice lady's being barred from Ys and we're trying to figure out why, help please!"

...Rejected... by the barrier? There would be several reasons, but Koharu wondered how to word this. She might be carefree, but it's not like she could just immediately go like "oh hey, have you comitted a crime" right to someone's face. To begin with, Ys does not discriminate against criminals unless they specificly wanted to cause problem in Ys. Those who wanted a new life could enter just fine, and the city will remove extra restraints on them when they proved themselves to be member of the society.
Hmn.
"Well, here's the thing, I think it happened because a recent fiasco with El Doradimon citizen... so the shield effect is kind of at full power..." Koharu mused.... well SHE'S the one caused it, although honestly, Hikaru personally told her that it's not a big deal. Pretty much a lot of people wanted to slap the citizen of that place anyway.
"But supposedly, there are several reasons why you're not allowed to come in. Granted, this is just what I know, alright? The shield is complex and honestly, not a lot of us really 100% know what's going on.
Anyway, 1: The one who tries to enter have a feud with someone in the city. Like, they're looking to actively harm them. In that case, regardless who is at fault, the city will separate them. The case will be brought before the king, and until the king says you may enter, you cannot enter. On top of that, 50 meter separation order will be imposed on both party.
2: the one who tries to enter want to actively harm the city, whether psychologically or physically. This one is where the shield worked at its absolute maximum. It generally would further warn you with zapping electricity.
3: The one who tries to enter is blacklisted by ally team. For example, if by some reason the visitor is blacklisted by Deeplane City, then by proxy, Ys will also blacklist them should we feel that it warrants any sort of problem... but I..." Koharu checked and does not find the girl in any of the blacklist. "...Yeah as I thought you're not in the blacklist, so... in this case, I'd like to ask, do you have certain feud with someone perhaps? As long as you don't mind to drop it or ask for a fair trial in front of the king, I think you can enter just fine... Or at least, so I think. But if you don't mind me asking, what interest brings you to Ys?"

Something dirty…? It was very possible Manami had thought something of that nature if they reached the extent of what Gihai had mentioned. But, did handholding really qualify as one such activity? For the time being, that question was left lingering in the air, or it would've otherwise if it weren't for the fact that the disguised digimon's hands reached out and tried to grasp the Guilmon's claws.
"Why would this be dirty?" She asked, obvious puzzlement in her expression. "Is there something I'm missing?"
Manami honestly doubted this had anything to do regarding the city refusing to admit her, but she wasn't above trying the possible suggestions others might have regarding the matter. Whether that proved helpful or not, the interaction was promptly interrupted by the appearance of what was undoubtedly a local that, after a pretty long-winded explanation, ultimately proved to be quite informative, but only mildly useful.
"It's my first time visiting, so I doubt I'm on ill terms with anyone!" That much was true. What about her reason to visit? That was a little less clear! "I heard about a new city in the north some time ago, and how prosperous it was! Being a bit of a patron of the arts myself, the possibility of experiencing works I haven't before was quite thrilling, so I decided to pay the place a visit. But… well, you see what happened. Such a shame, ain't it?"
However, a prospective way to enter the city didn't sound all that bad, everything considered. "If you're genuine on your offer, however, I'll be more than happy to take it!"
Nobody knew how a fair trial would go, but the mere prospect of that happening sounded like fun! Just as possibly meeting the city's so-called king.

Gihai was left to muse as to why something like the barrier would reject a human that didn't seem to know anyone there. Something that was a really foolish endeavor, given Gihai was unable to realize in time that Manami was doing something truly heinous in grasping her claw and holding her hand.
The Guilmon looked surprised. Very much so. If scales could change color on her, then she'd likely be REALLY flustered, like, wow. "I-I-I don't know, I t-think it's a gesture reserved for intimacy and honestly I'm just g-going off of what one of my friends said once!" Wait, Gihai had FRIENDS? What?
Plus, this girl didn't seem like the kind of person who had a feud with anyone...It was perplexing as to how she'd be barred from the city. "If you need any witnesses or anything, I-I can help!" Gihai piped up! "I've been in the city before, despite being called a smoothbrain a bunch by a crappy bird!"
Question is...though...
"...How do you get an audience with the King, anywho...?"
