The battle has been immense, and difficult. The area around is mangled, barren, blackened. A dry hot wind blows through… And suddenly, many bodies hit the ground. The ground cracking loudly, shattering under the sudden force as Crusadermon, Dynasmon, and Duftmon make their impact. The air is filled with the sounds of various battle cries, energy blasts, and grunts of pain as the fight continues above the three Royal Knights.
“Urgh… How many of us are left?” Dynasmon groans, sinking his hands into the abused earth to rise from the crater he left.
“I think… Eight? Maybe Nine? I know Magnamon is trapped somewhere…” Duftmon responds, rising from her crater as well, shaking herself off. “And Gankoomon is nowhere to be seen. And where is Examon?! Augh, this is a mess…” She turns her attention back up to the battle above…
Where a large dark mass is hovering ominously in the air, twin dragon heads of melted flesh and darkness spiraling around one another to blast greenish-black beams at the Knights engaged in battle. Gigantic rips in space itself open constantly as the claws rend through the very fabric of the data around the mass, before sealing themselves once again with the sounds of implosive force. The earth suddenly shakes, and a massive sinkhole bursts into existence directly beneath the mass. A void, utter blackness, filling the now vacant space, as rectangular chunks of the world fall in.
“Well, I’m not just going to sit down here while everyone else gets to have the fun.” Crusadermon grunts, charging up his shield as he leaps back into the air, intending to rejoin the fight. Dynasmon, in the meantime, looks at Duftmon.
“...Please tell me you have a plan.”
“I might.”
“Chances of us all getting out of this alive?”
“15%.”
“I’ll take it. What do you have?”
“Get Alphamon.”
Dynasmon flares his wings and takes off, flying into the maelstrom of battle to seek out the leader of the Knights. Who currently was using his Ouryuken to slice one of the beams from this massive black mass in half to avoid getting hit himself. “My Lord, Duftmon requests your presence on the ground. She has a plan.”
“Of course she does. I’ll take anything at this point! Omegamon!”
The white clad Knight zooms in from closer in the battle, blasting at the mass with his Garuru Cannon. “Go! I can manage up here.” He then dives back into the fray, only to get backhanded off to the side and needing a quick save from Kentaurosmon.
Alphamon and Dynasmon drop gracefully to the ground and alight next to Duftmon. “Alright, tactician. What do you have for us?”
“If you can focus your Digitalize of Soul into a single spearpoint, focusing on chaining that monster into something a bit more manageable… We should be able to win. We just need someone who can carry that spear in.”
“And what’s this about the 15% chance of us all walking away?” Dynasmon pipes up.
“We have to distract that… thing long enough for the Digitalize to complete, and the spell ready.”
Alphamon nods in appreciation, as a shadow suddenly flies overhead. Wings that seem to spread across the sky itself and a roar loud enough to match the monstrosity’s own. “There’s your spear.” the blackclad leader says as he holds out his hands, magical circles of Digicode appearing around his wrists. “Go. Send Examon to me when I give the signal.”
Examon dives into battle with the fury of a true dragon, driving his lance forward into the claw that was coming down towards him. With a pull of the trigger, the claw explodes into a rapidly disintegrating mass of shadow… before it reforms on the other side of Examon and slapping him aside. He grunts hard and his wings flare to stabilize him. Gallantmon slides up next to him, shield held up high.
“What took you so long?”
“Wouldn’t you know it? Traffic is a pain. What’d I miss?”
“Magnamon is trapped in a pocket dimension, Gankoomon is missing in action apparently not having shown up. He may already have been killed before we assembled. UlforceVeedramon was forced to retreat with over half his armor melted into dust, and looking down there? Alphamon is working on some kind of spell.”
“Just your average ordinary everyday apocalypse?”
“Pretty much.”
“Make a path for me.”
Gallantmon and Examon raise their lances together and dive right back in, Gallantmon’s shield fires a multi-tiered laser that cuts through the beam one of the heads fires as the incoming Knights. A claw diverted off course by an Omegamon Grey Sword strike slicing it off. A second head beam redirected by Crusadermon decking it in the side of the jaw, causing the sinkhole below to expand along the path the beam cuts into the earth. More and more of the void looming beneath them, threatening destruction if they were to fall in. As the two dragon knights get closer, the monster before them fights harder to keep them away. Just as Examon raises his spear to fire a blast, he gets slashed hard by an unexpected claw from below! Knocking him flying upwards and his laser blast to go amiss.
He grits his teeth as he spins himself around to remain aloft in the air, turning his attention back to the beast. “What are you, monster?”
The creature seems to pause for a moment, and one of its two heads turns to look directly at Examon, as it speaks in a booming, yet somehow raspy, voice. “The end… of a millennium.” And a sickly green light illuminates the otherwise blackened void within its jaws before firing right at Examon. He closes his wings and drops like a stone to avoid the beam, angling himself towards Alphamon. He then flares his wings as he lands next to his leader.
“I’m almost done. When it’s ready, you just have to do what you do best. What happens to the rest of us doesn’t matter… You just have to get into that thing’s core, and blow it to the Dark Area.” Alphamon says simply, the magic circles around his wrists having now combined into one large magical circle. Occult images, patterns, and digicode swirl within.
“By your command.” The large dragon looks back up at the mass above them, and seeing that it clearly knows something is up here on the ground as it redirects a mouth beam at them! Examon’s wings suddenly scatter and reconfigure into a massive shield. “Alphamon, hold on!” He says, as the beam impacts the shield! Examon’s feet are forced into the ground by the power, shattering it below his massive size while he hunches over Alphamon to both protect him, and try not to disrupt the delicate coding in progress. He grits his teeth, trying not to give the monster the satisfaction of hearing him scream in pain as he bears the brunt of the attack. The Chrome Digizoid that makes up his wings cracks loudly, Examon’s eyes bugging out of his head at the sudden surge of pain. His wings are on fire. He’s on fire. It almost feels like he’s being melted apart from the inside, but still he holds strong… Even as the armor around his jaws crack as well with the force of him holding in his screams.
And after a minute… it’s over, and Examon lets out his held breath. His shield reconfigures back into his wings, and chunks of Chrome Digizoid fall to the ground, leaving quite a few holes in the membrane. Alphamon looks at him sympathetically, but nods. “You are a good Knight. You have never shown weakness before me, or those in your charge. Now, let’s make history again, my friend.” Alphamon says as he compresses the now completed magic circle, glowing a bright blue, around Examon’s spear. “Remember. What happens to the rest of us no longer matters.”
“By… your command, Alphamon.”
Examon, with a groan of pain, takes off into the air again as Alphamon unsheathes Ouryuken and takes off with him. “Royal Knights! Clear a path for Examon! We are finishing this fight… NOW!” Alphamon shouts over the maelstrom of wind and battle. The remaining Knights all roar their agreement and assemble next to Alphamon. The monster is deeply confused for a moment, all thoughts of attack stopped…
The ones currently left standing are Alphamon, Omegamon, Crusadermon, Dynasmon, Duftmon, Gallantmon, and of course, Examon. And Examon is deeply concerned as to what that will mean for the security of the Digital World, especially if the rest fall before his task is complete. The final charge is ready. Examon pumps his lance, causing a large shell casing to be ejected and fall into the void below. And Alphamon raises his sword before swinging it down to point at their enemy. “CHARGE!” The remaining Knights fly all at once. Beams get blasted at them, but Gallantmon and Alphamon meet the beams with either a sword to cut it in half around them, or a laser blast of their own to beam lock. Claws move to strike, and are dissipated or stopped by swords, blasts, and a Crusadermon punch. As the limbs disperse and reform, Crusadermon gets assassinated by a claw forming inside him. Another impales Gallantmon, causing his eyes to widen as he drops from the air, a smoking hole caved in his armor… Omegamon drops from the sky to catch Gallantmon while using the Garuru Cannon to still help keep the monster at bay as they get closer.
Dynasmon, unleashing the full force of his Wyvern Breath, charges ahead! The monster focuses both of its beams on the glittering argent energy flying towards it, refracting off of the mighty draconic force… But even then, Dynasmon cannot bear it for long, and is soon disintegrated. Duftmon looks at Alphamon, who wordlessly gives her a command to leave. Duftmon retreats accordingly. They are so close, the monster’s body is right there. Alphamon surges forward into its jaws, which slam shut around him… Only for the Black Holy Knight to force them open with his whole body, Ouryuken jammed in the upper jaw. “Examon! Avalon’s Gate!” He yells.
And Examon dives into the monster’s gullet, finding himself surrounded by darkness. The Dragon Emperor closes his eyes for a moment, as if whispering a prayer… before he charges up his lance. “Avalon’s GATE!" He roars into the void, and the lance illuminates the void to reveal nothing but a Digicore. A cracked, rotten Digicore.
The monster outside freezes in place. The swirling mass of darkness all stops, as if suddenly converted into wax. Slowly, bits of Digicode start to appear… Forming glowing rings that encase the monster. Down below, the void starts to close. Cracked, blasted earth regenerates and fills the gaps, making something safe to walk upon once more. The rings of code complete, and the monster lets out a roar as its massive power is not only contained, but shattered… and it disperses out of view, crumbling into data, and leaving Examon behind.
The dragon’s armor is cracked, shattered, and broken. The mighty lance split apart and held limply at his side. Eyes with barely a hint of iris or pupil. “Your command… is done… Alphamon… History is made… and I… I hope I will see the consequences… in the next life.” He croaks, as he starts to dissipate. Soon, his Digicore is exposed, and it splits perfectly in half. The two halves separate, and coalesce some data around into two Digitamas, which then teleport themselves to the Village of Beginnings. Alphamon floats in the air, chest heaving as he nods… seeing one he gladly calls brother fade into the next generation. “You will, my friend… You will see a World anew… When your time comes again, I hope you will answer, just as you always have.”
