"Ah, finally. After years of digging through ruins and compiling research data, this exhibit is finally ready to be unveiled." An aged Datamon said, happily sighing as he looked around the newest addition to the Rustport Museum. "At last, this fascinating period of history can be shared with the modern world. Well, enough reminiscing. It's time to share the wonders of the past with the current generation."
The elderly curator would happily hum to himself as he went to go unlock the museum's front doors and let the first group of visitors in to see the new exhibit. There were more people waiting to be let in than the Datamon had expected, to be honest. "Now, now, everyone. No need to be in a rush. This exhibit isn't going anywhere for a LONG time. Everyone will get their chance to learn about the tale of Nihilus."
The sight of so many people eager to learn about the ancient Digital world certainly warmed the curator's heart. It certainly gave the Datamon a good feeling about today!

Stepping off the Trailmon at the station in Rustport, Ryuji looked around the town with its old fashioned look that seemed welcoming at the same time. Perched on the eighteen year old's shoulder like usual was his Calumon partner Yoshihiro. Yoshihiro's ears were spread out as the small martial artist was alert and ready in case their was trouble making sure he would be able to hear it incase he had to digivolve and fight.
As the tamer walked through town various digimon looked at him but other than that didn't spare him a second glance as they went about their business. Soon the sight of a crowd caught Ryuji's attention and he made his way there mostly out of curiosity and saw what looked like a museum. Making his way inside the young adult looked around before Yoshihiro poked him on the cheek while pointing. Looking in the direction Yoshihiro indicated there seemed to be another crowd near what looked like a new exhibit and a Datamon was there as well managing things. So figuring there was no harm in checking things out he got in line to wait to go in.

As it just so happened, Weston the Wise was also on the Trailmon that Ryuji was on. Only Weston had more of a defined goal in Rustport than he did. No, Weston had heard about this groundbreaking new exhibit at the Rustport Museum, an exhibit detailing a period of the Digital World's past that hadn't previously been shared with the world. As a lover of stories and lore, the Wisemon just had to go see this exhibit for himself. He had high hopes that it really was as exciting as the advertisements made it out to be.
Calmly passing by Ryuji, Weston would make his way into town, knowing exactly where the museum was. As he floated mere inches off the ground down the street, the thoughts of what this exhibit could be flooded the cloaked Digimon's mind. I wonder what era of the Digital World it will be from... perhaps it will be a missing link to a big Digital World mystery! The joy on the Wisemon's face was very noticeable. Oh?
Weston was very surprised to see just how many Digimon were waiting outside the museum, seemingly waiting to be let in. That just made Weston's smile grow even more; there were more Digimon like him who were interested in Digital World history as well! The Wisemon would calmly enter the line and wait as the Datamon curator was trying to calm the crowd down. Only in the Digital World, right?

Ciel hummed to herself as she stood near the doors, looking down she saw Beta who seemed excited while looking next to that Hackmon she saw Alpha who seemed less excited but still had his eyes open on what was in front of him towards the door, probably just bored they had to wait. They had been here a while to get ahead of the others. Looking to her side though she saw Dylas.... Who seemed to be furiously writing something down in that little book he carried with him, well at least he's enthusiastic.
"So what's a museum anyway?" Beta tilted her head and asked looking up at Ciel, that's right she never did tell Beta just what this was.
"It's a place that displays all manner of historical artifacts, I thought it might serve as a nice day off of training to bring you two here. Also Dylas apparently." He kinda just barged in when he heard they were going to look at old relics, apparently according him he was very into old stuff.... Which out of context and considering Ciel's age really gave the wrong impression.
"Historical. Would that mean you could belong in a Museum Ciel?" Beta asked calling Ciel old, which was basically the truth given her past.
"Maybe you could ask them if they wanna display the Yamato, that swords gotta be at least 200 years old right?" If that was the truth or not Ciel couldn't say for sure, she stopped celebrating her birthday around 100 or so.
"I'm sure these artifacts are far older then me, but you two serve as a new generation of digimon, it would be wise for you to learn from the past and apply it towards the future. After all those who refuse to learn of the past are doomed to repeat it." With that said the four of them simply waited for the doors to open so they could go check out some of the stuff.

"Museums are dumb," The Lopmon atop a girl's head of pink hair stated for the umpteenth time. She let out an exasperated groan. "They're such a waste. If you wanna learn about boring history, then you should put it all in a book so a bunch of dweebs can geek out over it in the library or something. Or at least so you can put it all in a bookshelf so it can gather dust instead of wasting an entire building dedicated to it. Put in a soup kitchen or something, instead!"
"Not everything can be put into a book," A Terriermon on the girl's shoulder replied, her voice identical, yet her tone far more calm and collected. "Sometimes it's best to see such things with your own eyes."
"Then they should just make a movie," The Lopmon answered. "At least then it'd be more interesting than a bunch of snobs stating at a 'A rock that one of the Sovereigns might have stubbed their toe on once', or a 'Royal Knight's crusty jockstrap', or something," There was a pause before, "Actually, that last one might be pretty neat."
"I... don't really know about that, but I think it's really important!" Nanami insisted. "We're waiting for Shiroku's intel right now, so it's not like we have anything better to do! And really fancy people visit museums and stuff, like art thieves and stuff! Those are like, the classiest criminals, you know?" Her face lit up for a second. "And maybe we'll get to see a museum heist play out in front of us, and then they'll fly off on a hang-glider!"
"No. You definitely have your priorities mixed up."
"Well... we're definitely not gonna see anything with this freaking crowd in the way!" Mocha grumbled, reaching down into Nanami's bag, pulling out her Infinistore cube. "Nanami, we're gonna take a short cut. So just start pushing your way through the crowd," Nanami did so, making sure to say "excuse me" to the people she passed along the way. The lady with her family and the oversized weaponry, the Wisemon geeking out over presumably nerd stuff, and the boy and his Calumon whom she swore she had met before. Meanwhile, Mocha was barking at people to get out of the way. "Move it! We're trying to get the curator his coffee while it's still hot, folks! This cube ain't gonna keep it warm forever! He's got a long day ahead of him, and you know damned well that he's not gonna settle for that mud-water in the breakroom!" She even expanded her ears out to force the crowd to part a bit.
Anyways, after Nanami and company committed the most heinous crime of cutting in line, Mocha handed Nanami back her cube and floated down off her head. As she fell, she whispered, "Anyways, I'm gonna see how much stuff I can touch before I get kicked out," She gave a sly grin before talking in a normal volume again. "But first, I'm gonna use the bathroom!"
Then she started walking off on her own to go do whatever she pleased. And she most assuredly wasn't going to wash her hands.

As everyone passed through the doors, the weapon-carrying Sistermon did catch the attention of the museum's security guards (consisting of a handful of Strikedramons strategically spaced around the entire museum). The guards didn't make any moves to go after Ciel, but they did keep a close eye on her in case of trouble. Never let it be said that these guys didn't take their jobs seriously.
Overhearing Mocha's complaints as Nanami's group passed through the line, the curator would address Mocha with a jovial tone as the Lopmon passed by. "Oh, I assure you that this exhibit will be much more exciting than mere rocks, young rabbit. After all, an entire exhibit dedicated to an ancient battle in this very region is sure to be at least somewhat interesting to hear about, no? Ehehehe!"
Indeed, the artifacts and displays in the exhibit would reveal quite a grand story of an ancient war where an Apocalymon gathered a massive army and attempted to conquer the Digital World for himself. The self-proclaimed Dark Lord, Nihilus, conquered vast swathes of the Digital World before the war's final battle, dated approximately 2-3 thousand years ago in a place not too far from Rustport's current location, led to the Apocalymon being struck down due to the timely intervention of three Royal Knights: Omnimon, Gallantmon, and Craniamon.
In the end, not even the combined power of all three Rotal Knights could truly finish Nihilus off, so the Knights had no choice but to seal the Dark Lord's broken body deep beneath the surface, locked in a magical prison that prevented the Apocalymon from healing and regaining his strength. With Nihilus's sealing, his great army fled and scattered to the winds, although rumor has it that some of his followers remained loyal to their master and secretly hid in the shadows, biding their time until they can free their master and restore him to his former glory. One prominent artifact in the exhibit that would stand out among everything else was a twisted shard of blue metal that was believed to be a piece of Nihilus's armor, broken off during his climactic battle with the Royal Knights.
All in all, it was quite an awe-inspiring tale for those who chose to learn about it.

As Ryuji stood politely in line behind the Wisemon that was in front of him he noticed the security was focused on something behind him so he turned slightly seeing a group with a weapon wielding Sistermon. Now by now the teen was aware some digimon carried weapons as his own partner wielded a katana in his armor champion form of SamuraiCalumon so the sight wasn't strange but he still didn't blame the guards for looking wary as it was part of their job. Turning back around not much happened until he caught sight of Yoshihiro's ears wiggling out of the corner of his eye which had become an early warning that the small digimon was hearing something. Before he could ask Yoshihiro what was up Yoshihiro said "Ryuji, we have a chocolate bunny alert incoming." Yes he recognized Mocha's voice before Ryuji could hear her.
Ryuji turned around catching sight of Nanami, whom he hadn't seen in a year, with her two partners Cream and Mocha moving up the line cutting the others. Before he could say something one of Mocha's ears caught him in the face but fortunately wasn't very hard as it seemed she was using them to clear the way yelling something about coffee. As the trio went by, Yoshihiro shrugged and said "What? I did try to warn you. Not my fault you didn't duck."
Mocha's antics didn't seem to upset the curator one bit as he mentioned the exhibit was dedicated to an ancient battle which peaked Yoshihiro's interest. As a martial artist he also enjoyed learning of ancient warriors and by looking at Ryuji's expression it seemed the eighteen year old seemed interested too. "Excuse me sir, you mentioned an ancient battle." Ryuji politely called out toward the curator his interest matching his partner's.

As Weston was patiently waiting in line to see the exhibit, he was not expecting the sudden arrival of a pink-haired human alongside a Terriermon and a Lopmon moving past him, with the Lopmon shouting at the crowd. There was even a point where she extended her ears to push the Wisemon out of the way. "How rude..." Weston not-so-subtly complained as she cut further and further in line.
Clearly that Lopmon has no respect for history or social rules!
Weston wasn't going to let that anger ruin his day though, as his excitement to see the new exhibit was much stronger at the moment. He had overheard the curator, a Datamon, explain how the exhibit was dedicated to an ancient battle in this region. That was surely something that Weston had to learn about!
Finally, he was able to get up and see the exhibit for himself. It revealed the story of an Apocalymon known as Nihilus, who had gathered a huge army in order to seize the entire Digital World, the final battle taking place in Rustport approximately two or three thousand years ago. Weston himself was only a hundred and fifty years old, so this whole war was way before his time!
Weston was invested in this story as he wrote notes down in his notebook, the pen and notebook floating in mid-air and seemingly writing itself as he observed. He was surprised to find that it took three Royal Knights -- Omnimon, Gallantmon and Crainummon respectively -- to take him down. And not only that, they had to seal him away in a magical prison underneath the surface because they couldn't kill him. "Hm, if this part is true... then that means that Nihilus is still there, still alive..."
This was when Weston read of a rumor that Nihilus' followers remained loyal to him, hiding and waiting for the perfect time to unleash him. That caused Weston to look over at what appeared to be the remaining piece of Nihilus' armor, broken off and set on display for the visitors. Weston felt a nervous feeling in the pit of his stomach. "I truly hope the security here is enough to deter any potential robbers," the Wisemon couldn't help but say out loud.

Ciel didn't really pay much attention to the group cutting in line, it was pretty obvious what they were doing but she didn't feel like it was anything to get too upset about. She simply took a small step out of the way of the digimon's large ears to make sure she wasn't hit by them before returning to her place in line.
Meanwhile Dylas got totally hit by the ears but instead of being forced back he'd just tank the hit pushing back against it without noticing too busy looking at his notes. "Did a fly hit me or something?" He questioned looking around for a moment.
"Don't worry about it, just go back to focusing on your Grimoire." It wasn't anything worth getting too upset about after all, Beta didn't seem to even notice it happening in the slightest! So lucky her.
As they made their way through the doors Ciel noticed eyes on her almost instantly, glancing around she saw a whole lot of guards stationed around the museum, makes sense. She even realized why they might have eyes on her, tracing the back of her great sword with her free hand for a moment it was pretty obvious though felt like they were being a bit rude about it, after all most digimon can conjure weapons or are weapons themselves. Her having some out in the open like this should be considered no different then Dylas with his book and staff.
Pausing for a moment Ciel considered not going on ahead but quickly decided to press on instead, so long as it remained as it was it should be fine, though she'd find it quite hard to enjoy herself with someone keeping close watch on her.
Joining Alpha and Beta the three of them read the story together from the start, going a bit slower due to quite a few questions from Beta about terms such as the Royal knights. Dylas on the other hand was a lot faster of a reader and more interested in the entire thing going on ahead ending up next to Weston looking at the same artifact. His Grimoire above his head writing notes down as he read it.
"It does seem quite worrying to have such an artifact in the open, unless of course this one is merely a recreation while the other sits safely somewhere." Dylas answered Weston despite not being the one the question was directed at, it was a bit worrying he agreed but part of him decided to simply trust the museum staff knew what they were doing.

Thankfully, Mocha's rude antics didn't pick an unnecessary fight and cause unneeded conflict and completely derail the story. So that was a plus. But, in typical rude fashion, once the curator began to explain the magnificence and brilliance of museums Mocha ignored the Datamon and walked off while he was talking. But Nanami nodded along thoughtfully while Cream gave the machine curator a knowing glance. It seemed that Mocha was in a rush to use the bathroom or something. Could this be why she pressured Nanami to cut in line... eh. Story for another day. But as it stood, Mocha was currently disengaged from the central story for the time being, unless there were a bunch of robbers hiding out near the toilets or something. But that would just be awkward.
Meanwhile, Nanami kept her arms crossed, trying to looks assured and like... smart and stuff. So she simply stared at all the pieces, nodded thoughtfully, and moved on. Truth-be-told, she really didn't understand the point of museums, either. Having such a huge space to hold a bunch of valuable items seemed like a waste when you could have like... a homeless shelter. Or if you wanted a place where people could have fun, then you could build an amusement park instead! Now that was fun!
But while Mocha couldn't care less whether museums existed, and Nanami didn't see the point, even she could see that the what she had dubbed The Apocalypse Shard seemed like a big deal. "That sounds like something out of a fantasy novel..." She noted. Meanwhile, the Terriermon still on her frowned.
"It's an old tale. It's possible it has been exaggerated. Most likely to draw in traffic," She stated. "Because if it's not, having such a dangerous piece of history would be kind of... stupid."
"Eh?"
"If Nihilus is still alive, then having a fragment out in public display seems like an unnecessary risk. Any history buff with ill-intents would probably love to get their hands on it, if only as an evil keepsake."
"That sounds kind of dangerous, when you put it like that..." Nanami noted, suddenly looking around uncomfortably. But Cream patted her over the head with her ear in what was probably supposed to be a comforting gesture, but really only resulting in tussling up the girl's hair.
"It's probably fine. Chances are, if something like this had any potential danger to it, it'd be locked up in a place like Luminas or something instead of a town like Rustport. And if there were anyone willing to steal it, I doubt they'd be so brazen when it's this crowded," There was a thoughtful pause before adding, "Though I suppose this would be the prime opportunity to take something and hide in the crowd after. I'm admittedly unfamiliar with museum heist etiquette, so I can't say for certain."
Nanami nodded, then looked down, almost dejected. "...I see. That's a bummer..."
"That's..." Cream let out an exasperated sigh. "Nanami. I promise if I spot a robber or a museum heist in progress, I'll point them out to you so you'll be less bored." Nanami clenched her fists excitedly and grinned to her partner.
"Thanks, Cream! I'll keep an eye out, too!" And so the little girl proceeded to keep a watchful lookout for any suspicious people around, ironically making herself look suspicious in the process!

"Oh, yes. Rustport isn't very far from the location of a battle that occurred millennia ago. That battlefield is where most of these relics were discovered, including a metal shard that we believe was actually a piece of Nihilus's armor. That alone proves that there was indeed a historical basis to Nihilus's legend, rather than it being purely mythological." Datamon said, hoping that his answer was enough to satisfy Ryuji's curiosity.
The curator would notice that some of the visitors had concerns about the potential hazard of having a fragment of Nihilus's armor out in the open like this, however, and hobbled over to address Weston and Dylas's concerns. "Oh, I assure you, that is indeed the real deal. Or at least as close as we can tell, that is. We did extensive testing on that shard to make sure it was safe to display and as far as any of us can tell, that fragment is completely and utterly inert. No signs of any lingering magic or unusual data signatures of any kind. I fail to see how such a shard would be of any particular value to potential robbers, though."
The museum's lights choosing that moment to flicker out asimultaneously would show that perhaps the elderly Datamon had spoken a bit too soon.

After Datamon answered his question regarding the great battle he took a slight step to the side before leaning so he could see past Weston spotting the old piece of metal. It was bigger than Yoshihiro in his current form looking anywhere from two to three feet tall. Ryuji whistled at the sight of it before he said "The owner of this armor was likely much bigger than you, Yoshihiro, if this is only a piece of this Nihilus guys' armor."
Yoshihiro wasn't mad at his tamer's observation but playfully blew a raspberry at Ryuji just the same. His small size was never a sore spot for him anyway. Though he hadn't mentioned anything he was worried about the possibility of there being robbers after such an artifact. Looking off in the direction Nanami and her partners went it seemed that the rush, though rude, was a bathroom break as Mocha vanished from sight into the room with Cream and Nanami waiting for her. Sure Nanami looked a bit suspicious and it almost made the little Calumon laugh but he was able to restrain himself to an amused smile before turning his attention back to Datamon.
Yet when Datamon wondered how a shard would be valuable to robbers, Yoshihiro's ears began to wiggle as he picked up on the sound of the lights before they flickered off. Great. Just dandy. "Sounds like you jinxed yourself, Datamon." Yoshihiro said now standing on Ryuji's shoulder on high alert. "Everyone keep your guards up just in case."

Weston felt solace in knowing he wasn't alone in being concerned with the piece of armor out on display. A rather muscular Wizardmon approached Weston and suggested that it might be a replica of the real thing, otherwise it would be foolish to keep it here on display. "I hope that is the case- wait, Ciel? Is that you?" It would be this moment that the Wisemon would notice three familiar faces in the form of Alpha, Beta and Ciel. "It is a pleasure to see you all again. I hope the three of you are doing well after the unfortunate event last time."
Meanwhile, he could overhear the pink girl from earlier react to the exhibit by saying that it sounded like something out of a fantasy novel, with even her Terriermon partner stating that having a piece of Nihilus' armor on display was not a good idea. "It makes me glad to hear that it is not just me with these concerns. What worries me the most is that this armor could potentially be used to bring Nihilus back. It is merely a theory but it is a worrying theory."
Weston's nervousness was only increased when the Datamon curator claimed that this was in fact the real deal. "Oh dear... As wonderful as this exhibit is, sir, I would strongly recommend not having this piece out in the open. Not because of any effects it may or may not have, but because you should not underestimate criminals."
Right when Datamon commented on how he failed to see what use the armor would have to robbers, the museum lights flickered a bit. Weston took another glance at the armor piece... and he would keep watching it. If he was right, and that piece was the key to bringing back an Apocalymon... well, the security there was the only thing able to prevent a literal apocalypse.

"Wait so there's twelve."
"thirteen."
"Thirteen powerful digimon, so why did they send only three? Surely if three could seal it then thirteen could blow em up?" Maybe it had something to do with what was going on during that time, after all it was hard to tell exactly what would've been happening around then.
"It doesn't say, though from what I recall some of the royal knights are quite fickle, mayhap they simply assume three would be more then enough. They are quite powerful after all." That was the best guess Ciel had, after all that long ago whatever must've been going on was most likely lost to the pages of history. Before Ciel could make not of the suspicious human looking around it would seem the three of them got recognized.
"Ahh, so you are familiar with my associate and her children, my name is Dylas. A friend of Alpha's. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." Dylas decided to introduce himself with a small nod, thankfully not saying anything too our of place.
"We're doing quite alright, as a break from training I figured I could take them to a museum to enjoy a day off, we were also going to get something to eat if you wished to join us. We do still owe you after that little event." Ciel offered with a smile, one more mouth shouldn't be too hard. Plus Dylas was going to pay! If he knew that or not Ciel didn't know for sure.
Then came the theory Weston had about actually reviving the digimon itself with this artifact, which made Dylas cross his arms thinking to himself for a moment. "I see, so it is real. But so long as you've made sure it is inert, As I see you do possess some manner of security. They have locked eyes on my associate. I assume you to be quite confidant in your security. If anything does happen I hope that is enough."
Meanwhile Alpha was looking at the artifact as the lights flickered, thankfully he could see rather easily in the darkness and Beta had been learning to do so as well. "Alpha no."
"I wasn't gonna!" The thought did cross his mind to take the thing instead, if the lights went out that would be the best time to do so. Sadly though since Beta could now see better in the dark and Ciel was right there, that moment had already flew by without a second thought.

"You'd think that for thirteen powerful knight Digimon with powers beyond that of a Super-Mega there would be more solid information about them," Cream posited, butting into the conversation. "History's almost intentionally vague when dealing with the Royal Knights. It's possible that there are only a small portion of them active at a single time." But once it was clear that the family seemed to know Weston personally, she felt more and more like an outsider and shied away. Didn't want to interrupt and whatnot.
Anyways, this Weston guy seemed to be pretty smart, cause he was talking about stuff that Nanami didn't even realize. They'd use some broken-off piece of armor to revive their sealed master? Wait, no... that would totally be what would happen in fantasy novels. And she read a whole bunch of them during her frequent hospital stays. But that was another life and failed heart ago! Now she got to live this shit, and she couldn't help but smile at the thought of it.
But then her excitement quickly turned to concern as reality kicked in and the lights went out. Nanami didn't waste any time as her hand went to her shoulder to pat Cream on the head. She could feel the Terriermon nod, and she held out her Digivice mounted onto her wrist, a D-Arc with an ugly color scheme of light green, pink, and brown. Cream leaped off her shoulder while the girl raised the Digivice above her head.
"Terriermon... Evolution!" The little bunny became a little ball of light until a much larger beast broke out of it. A red lion-like Digimon covered in flames. "Firamon!" She shout out a burst of flames from her body that were intensely hot, yet didn't seem to burn anyone. More than enough to bring light to the general area, however.
More importantly, it would give other Digimon the ability to see. "Umm... I'm not security, but I think everyone should move to a safer location, just in case!" She yelled out. It might have been an overreaction, but if something fishy was going on, she wanted as few bystanders as possible. Besides, wanting for something exciting to happen and then suddenly the lights go out? The little girl was all but blaming herself for this happening. And she had already lost one friend because she was selfish and inconsiderate. She didn't want that to happen to anyone else. Not anymore!
