Knock Knock Knock
The sound of knocking could be heard coming from the front door of the Matsui household on one March morning. Standing outside would be none other than Luneth the Hackmon, or as he was commonly referred to as while in holosuit, Luneth Kanzaki. A friend of Kaya's, he made up the excuse that his school was on spring break, and he decided to use that week to come and visit his friend in Japan, the perfect excuse for a Digimon who actually moved back to the Digital World in order to become a baker's bodyguard.
It makes sense with context, the author swears.
After a few moments of waiting, the front door would open to reveal Kaya's mother, a short and plump woman with dark brown hair and glasses. "Hey! Luneth, was it?"
"That's right, ma'am," Luneth said, nodding his head in response to Kaya's mother. He was feeling a tad bit nervous for whatever reason at this point. "I believe Kaya told you that I was going to be coming earlier today, right?"
"Oh yeah, she told me all about that," Kaya's mother said as she stepped to the side. "Why don't you come on in? Kaya should be down any minute now, once she's done with her bath."
"Thank you, ma'am," Luneth politely said as he accepted her offer, entering inside the house. It was a decent looking house on the inside, not too big but not too small either. The skinny hallway had four choices: living room to the right, kitchen and dining area to the left, additional rooms up ahead and of course the stairs leading up to the second floor. "This house is very nice, ma'am. Much nicer than my father's house."
"Oh, it's not that special. Hell, the place was a huge mess last night; Kaya, Mari and I had to really work at it to get this place spotless before you came."
"You all cleaned the house... just for my visit?" Luneth asked, surprised by what he was hearing. Did Kaya really care that much about what he thought of her house? Sure, it was his first time actually visiting her house, but it was still quite a shock to the disguised Hackmon.
"You have no idea how excited Kaya's been for your visit," Kaya's mother said, "she's been looking forward to it all week. Going on and on about how soon it'll be until Luneth comes to visit and-"
"Mother!" A familiar and embarrassed voice could be heard from the top of the stairs. It was none other than Kaya Matsui herself, dressed in a long-sleeve pink sweater, blue skinny jeans and white socks. "Why are you telling him about that?!"
"Because I've never seen you so excited about anything before," Kaya's mother responded with a laugh, "besides, I thought you were still taking a bath."
"Well, I, uh- I just finished," Kaya responded, hesitating mid-sentence. "Thanks for letting him in, so we'll just be going upstairs for now," she said as she grabbed onto Luneth's hand and dragged him back upstairs. Once they had something resembling privacy, she sighed. "Sorry about my mother, Luneth, she's a bit-"
"Were you really that excited to see me, Kaya?" Luneth asked, a bit of pink present on his face. It wasn't long before that same pink was present on Kaya's as well.
"...yeah. Yeah, I was." Kaya and Luneth would then enter Kaya's bedroom, which was EXTREMELY feminine. Pink and whiteish green were the primary colors of the furniture in the room, along with a plethora of stuffed animals on Kaya's bed. "So, just make yourself at home! Hawkeye and I are going to go out later, and we were hoping that you'd come with us."
"Yeah, that would be lovely," Luneth agreed as he took a seat on the end of Kaya's bed. "Where is Hawkeye, anyways?"
"He's the actual one taking a bath right now," Kaya answered, "I had to tell my mom that it was me taking a bath so she wouldn't be suspicious about hearing running water. Hopefully he'll be finished before she decides to use that bathroom."
"You still haven't told your parents about Hawkeye yet? About Digimon?"
"No... not exactly. I mean, how can I? Once they see how dangerous Digimon can be, they'll make sure I can never see Hawkeye again, can never go to the Digital World again. I can't risk it, Luneth, I just can't."
"Do you know for sure that that's what they'll do?"
"Well..."
"Keeping my secret from you was bad enough. And it blew up in my face when you found out from someone that isn't me. What's going to be better; having Hawkeye meet your parents in the living room, or meeting him as he's flying down trying to save you as Aquilamon? Who knows, maybe they'll really like him, and trust him to protect you."
Kaya sighed. "Yeah, you have a point... maybe if you were there with me when I tell them about Digimon?"
"Of course, I'd be there," Luneth said with a smile. "And there's... another reason, why I wanted to visit. Aside from just spending time with you. There's... just something that I have always wanted to say to you, and I... I am having trouble finding the words for it." Luneth took a deep breath before he continued. "I... like you, Kaya. I've liked you for a really long time."
"You... you like me?"
Luneth nodded. "Yeah... yeah, I do. But I was hesitant to tell you for the longest time, even after you found out I was a Digimon... I convinced myself that the idea of you and me together was stupid, simply because we're not the same species. Something about a human and a Digimon together feels off... don't you think?"
Kaya was stunned. She had a feeling Luneth liked her like that, but still... she didn't know that that's why he never said anything until now. "Well, I admit I've had a thing for you for a bit as well... when I thought you were a human, that is. I'd be... open to trying something out, you know? But if you don't think humans and Digimon go together like that..." Kaya mulled it over for a moment before she came up with an idea.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is where the "music" part of this music MPC begins. "Well... then what if we look past that part?" Kaya finally proposed. "What if we just forget the human and Digimon labels... so we can just be us. Together." Kaya paused for a bit before she began singing.
"I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you... I don't need you to search for the proof that I should. You don't have to convince me; you don't have to be scared you're not enough... 'cause what we've got going... is good."
At this time is actually when Hawkeye would be finished up with his bath. A white towel around his waist, he was about to push open the already partly open door to enter the bedroom but paused when he heard Kaya's voice. Instead of entering, he decided to simply peak in and see what was going on for himself.
Kaya stood up from her seat on the bed, crossing her arms and walking closer towards her window that looked out at the street. "I don't need more reminders of all that's been broken... I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget... clear the slate and start over, try to quiet the noises in your head... we can't compete with all that."
Then, with a slight smile she looked back over at Luneth, uncrossing her arms and slowly walking closer towards him. "So, what if it's us? What if it's us, and only us? And what came before won't count anymore or matter... can we try that? What if it's you, and what if it's me, and what if that's all that we need it to be~, and the rest of the world falls away... what do you say?"
Almost immediately with great enthusiasm, Luneth sat up from his own seat and began to sing as well. "I never thought there'd be someone like you who would want me..." ("Well...") "So, I give you ten thousand reasons to not let me go. But if you really see me, if you like me for me and nothing else... well that's all that I've wanted for longer than you could possibly know! So, it can be us! It can be us, and only us! And what came before won't count anymore or matter... we can try that!"
Enveloped by emotion, both Luneth and Kaya would begin to hold hands, their melodies fully forming into a true duet. "It's not so impossible~!"
"Nobody else but the two of us here!"
"'Cause you're saying it's possible~!"
"We can just watch the whole world disappear!"
"'Til you're the only one I still know how to see..."
At this point, Hawkeye fully understood what was going on between Kaya and Luneth. And even he couldn't help but get all teary-eyed at this lovely moment that was happening with the two of them.
"It's just you and me..."
"It'll be us; it'll be us and only us, and what came before won't count ANYMOOOOORE~"
"We can tryyyy thaaaaaaat! Youuuu and meeee, that's all that we need it to be~! And the rest of the world falls away, and the rest of the world falls awaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaay..."
"The world falls away... the world falls away... the world falls away... the world falls away... and it's onlyyyy uuuuuuuuuus." And with that, the song ended with a hug between the girl and the disguised Digimon... maybe just removing the labels altogether, just seeing each other as people instead of just as a human or Digimon, could help their relationship form into something more meaningful in the future...
"OOMPH!" That moment of serenity was prematurely halted by the door unexpectedly being pushed open, causing Hawkeye to fall flat on his face and reveal his presence to Luneth and Kaya. Once he picked himself up, he was met with both of them staring at him with surprised expressions. "Erm... hello, Luneth. It has been a while since we've last spoken."
Oh boy, this just got even more awkward than before...
