Herb Hunt (Nurse Devita, Mandrake)

The Server Woods could be a dangerous place, especially for young Digimon. While not as hazardous or full of deadly predators as some areas, there were still many places where one could come to harm, and many Digimon that would take advantage of lost travelers.
A poor Koromon had learned that lesson all too well. Beaten and bruised, scratched and sore, the tiny pink ball hid shivering behind his floppy ears while sat atop some kind of fabric. His eyes were clenched tight and his small round body shivered in fear. "Please," he cried at a figure flying above it. "I'm... I'm scared.... I don't want..."
"Now, now," the Digimon hovering over him said softly. "Don't be scared." The figure was also round, though dark and bat-like, with sharp clawed feet, sinister yellow eyes, and a skull on her forehead signifying doom. She was a DemiDevimon, with a small syringe floating in front of her - a Demi Dart, aimed right at the Koromon!
"It will only hurt for a second. Trust me. It will be over before you know it."

Elsewhere in the Server Woods Mandrake and Lothar had their own problem as it seemed Circe was ill. She had not been feeling well all day and now it had gotten to the point of where she was too weak to walk on her own for very long. Lothar was kneeling near the young very human looking rookie while Mandrake had gone to look for medicinal herbs to help their daughter.
Meanwhile Mandrake was making his way through the woods on alert for any potentially helpful herb and, so far, nothing had come up. At least that was until he picked up two mental signatures in the woods. Curious but still making sure to keep an eye out for what he needed, he went in the direction of the minds he sensed. Soon he spotted a battered Koromon and a DemiDevimon. When he saw the needle and heard the DemiDevimon's words his sapphire eyes widened. It was then he focused his telekinesis on the needle and pulled it away from the bat winged rookie before coming out of hiding. Then he, in a strong protective tone, asked "What have you done to this child?"

Right before the DemiDevimon could launch her hypodermic needle at the injured Koromon, the syringe floated away. "W-what the - hey, come back here," she grumbled, floating after it. "I need to-"
"What have you done to this child!?"
Oh.
The DemiDevimon abandoned the needle for now, and instead floated a foot away from Mandrake's face. She glared into his eyes. "What have I done? Oh, let's see. I gave up my only article of clothing for a soft clean place to sit down my patient, examined his wounds carefully, and decided that he needed immediate attention. I then prepared a cure - one that takes a good while to prepare, so please be careful with it - and was about to administer it when you came... out... of..." She trailed off, going blank for a second, then glaring even more intensely.
"What did... you... do to the child? Trying to 'blame' me so I think you were unaware, when you did this all along? Come to finish the job, you pathetic excuse for a hunter? Picking on a little kid, your taste in prey is amazing, oh mighty warrior. All shall fear you and your child-slaying prowess!"
The Koromon then opened an eye, saw Mandrake, and quietly muttered "Wasn'... 'im..."
"...Oh. S-sorry. Can I... have the syringe back now?"
"N-no, please! I don't wanna... don't hurt me..."
"It's.. okay... I know it is scary... but it will make you feel better, I promise." The DemiDevimon turned back towards Mandrake. "Hey. You. Can you try to calm the kid? I think your outburst scared the poor dear."

The DemiDevimon was understandably baffled to see her needle float away from her but what surprised Mandrake was that the small digimon flew right into his face explaining that she was treating the child's injuries and the needle contained the medicine needed for the treatment. Then her glare intensified as she started to accuse him of hurting the Koromon when he was trying to protect the injured youngster. Looking baffled at the accusation he said "W-What? I...I would never think of harming anyone child or not but you have got to understand how suspicious you could look to a passerby. How would you react in my situation?"
Then Koromon explained that Mandrake didn't hurt him and the DemiDevimon apologized. As Mandrake returned her syringe the DemiDevimon asked if he could try to calm the kid. Mandrake nodded and walked over to the Koromon before kneeling down and gently rubbing between the child's antenna as he asked "What are you doing in this forest all alone, little one?" His tone was a gentle parental tone he had gotten used to using since becoming a father.

The DemiDevimon got her Demi Dart back, and examined it closely. "Hm... no damage. I did not think so but... a broken, bent or dulled needle... a cracked syringe... and it would be not only useless, but harmful. Glad you aren't a klutz."
The Koromon tried to relax, but then winced again. "Okay... um... so..." he began. "I... was having a picnic with my friends, right? We had such delicious food. But then, these Gazimon showed up and wanted all the food. My friends... my friends ran away... but... but I didn't..." He sniffled and stifled some tears, and continued. "I didn't want them to take the food or ruin our picnic. They... didn't like that. I... I had to give it up anyways and run away... then... I... I don't remember."
"You must have passed out from pain and exhaustion at some point," explained the DemiDevimon gently. "That means... you fell asleep from being hurt and running so much. Then I found you... and you woke up... then this nice Wizardmon found you too. So now you need to let us help you heal up, okay?"
"N-no! I don't need help! I'm strong and tough and can go find my friends and I don't want to be poked by the big scary needle!"

The DemiDevimon examined the syringe carefully which made sense to Mandrake seeing as it held medicine. "Ma'am, I assure you that I am skilled in my telekinesis and even I know how dangerous it is for a syringe to be damaged since one never knows what can be inside them." Mandrake said not sounding at all upset. He was more concerned about the young Koromon at this moment.
He continued to gently massage Koromon's head between his antenna while the young one explained how he was having a picnic with his friends until some Gazimon showed up bullying them for their food and obviously beat Koromon up before he was able to get away. "Look, young man, no one is saying you're weak and it is fine not to like needles." Mandrake said before looking at the DemiDevimon and asked "How bad were his injuries after you looked at him? Depending on how bad they are I might be able to help you treat him."

At every touch from Mandrake, the Koromon cringed, expecting more pain. However, after somehow not hurting, he relaxed a bit more. "Nobody... thinks I'm weak," he asked in a surprised, hopeful tone. "You mean it? I... felt weak not being able to save the picnic and running away... but thank you. And... do you not like needles either, mister?"
Meanwhile, the DemiDevimon pondered her Demi Dart. She could shoot the Koromon with it while he is distracted. It would make things so much easier. But it would also feel like a betrayal of trust, even for his own good - something the little Digimon wouldn't understand. She sighed and carefully placed the Dart down.
Then the DemiDevimon looked at Mandrake with wide eyes. "You know first aid? That's great! The Demi Dart full of medicine would help with many of the injuries, but is no replacement for proper medical procedures. As you can clearly tell, those scratches and cuts range from paper cuts to immediate concern, but more importantly need to be cleaned. And those bruises... the way they look concerns me further, they could be a sign of deeper, internal damage. And what you may or may not be able to tell is he is slightly paler than would be expected. I think it was more than just exhaustion and pain that caused him to pass out. The only place that isn't badly hurt... you happen to find when comforting him."
She then looked around, and back at Mandrake. "Do you have anything you can use to disinfect, and anything that could bandage up some of the cuts? With the body shape of the patient, it is kind of difficult..." She flew closer and whispered. "...and we may need to take him to the nearest actual hospital. With how excited he is to go back, I don't know how we'll convince him."
"What... nhh ow.... are you whispering about? Am I going to be okay? I'm... you aren't saying bad things right?"

"Of course you aren't weak. You not only stood up for yourself but your friends. Just because rookie digimon beat you up doesn't mean make you weak. There are many kinds of strength after all and I think you have potential to become a truly mighty digimon one day." Mandrake said talking in a comforting tone and when the Koromon asked if he didn't like needles either, Mandrake said "I don't think anyone likes needles, young one, but I think this DemiDevimon is trying to help you get better."
"Yes ma'am, but not only do I know first aid, I also have access to an ability that allows me to heal minor injuries in this form. I would have to digivolve to mega to fully heal the child though." Mandrake said and when asked if he had anything that he could use to disinfect he shook his head and said "I'm afraid not. My fiancé has our first aid kit with him and he is with our daughter." Just then his eyes widened as he remembered why he was wondering the woods. "I can't believe while looking for herbs for my sick daughter that I've become so distracted." When the Koromon sounded worried he looked down at the little one and said "I'm sure you'll be fine, little one. We were just discussing the best options for treating your injuries." He technically wasn't lying to the Koromon but didn't know how best to explain some of his injuries weren't minor without alarming him.

Koromon smiled softly and deflated slightly at the praise. "Mighty Digimon..." He savored the thought, and mused over it. The talk of nobody liking needles also resonated with him. "Hehe... that makes sense. But... will that needle really make me feel better?"
The DemiDevimon nodded, which meant their entire body rotated forwards and back. "That will be very helpful. Together we can heal enough to quell immediate worries, though proper treatment would be preferable." She paled when she found out about Mandrake's daughter. "I'm sorry, one unwell child making you unable to care for your own is really bad luck. What kind of illness does your daughter have? I could look for the appropriate medicinal herbs while you comfort Koromon... and um... maybe... you know..." She trailed off, eyeing the needle. "If you could find a way to... help while I'm gone? He seems to like you."
In fact, he seemed to trust Mandrake, sighing and letting go of some of the fear when he explained that they were just talking about how to help. "Oh... that all? That's... that's good... so you can help me then...?"

"I'm sure the needle has medicine that will help. Surely as a strong digimon you are brave enough to handle getting an injection." Mandrake said still in a soothing voice. It seemed being a father was helpful in dealing with frightened children.
"I think I can help him out. As for my daughter she seems to be suffering from fatigue, drowsiness, and a fever. Her appetite is practically nonexistent as well. This is why I was looking for some herbs to help with those symptoms since multiple illnesses can have the same symptoms. She was asleep when my fiancé and I set up camp and he is keeping an eye on her right now." Mandrake seemed concerned as Circe was not certain to take waking up and not being able to find him. Given how she was abandoned by her mother the spiderling would likely freak out if Lothar wasn't there to do some damage control.
"As for Koromon I can at least help with his minor injuries which should help him until you get back. Then maybe we can make our way back to the camp where my family is. It isn't far from here." Mandrake said and when Koromon asked if he could help him, Mandrake nodded as his hand began to glow with magical power. "Yes, Koromon. I think I can help. Cleansing Soul!" He then lay his glowing hand on Koromon beginning to heal the minor wounds on the young one.
OOC: Mandrake begins to heal Koromon with his Cleansing Soul technique. Cleansing Soul: Cures light wounds.(Cooldown of one post) 0/1 cooldown.

"I... um... I guess..." Koromon replied, clearly not entirely sure about the needle though a little more confident. "But... uh... I'll think about it."
The DemiDevimon closed her eyes as she listened to Mandrake list off his daughter's symptoms. "Hm. I think I know the appropriate plants to derive medicine from," she finally said. "I agree, there are quite a few different illnesses that could be. I don't know if we can cure them all, but if we can treat the symptoms, you can let it run its course once they are relieved. It would be best to take her to a hospital, but..."
The DemiDevimon sighed, then floated in a way to shake her head. "I understand if that isn't possible. I will not judge without knowing the circumstances. It... is why I'm wandering out here, anyways."
She flew off at high (for a DemiDevimon) speeds and was soon out of sight. Only a few moments later, she returned, with a very small amount of various herbs in her clutch. "These should reduce fever, but I mainly returned for two reasons. One. To make sure you were still here and not abandoning the patient...and two... didn't introduce myself. I'm Devita. Well... you're still here so.... bye." After releasing the herbs, she blasted off again.
The hurt Koromon tensed but then relaxed, mumbling softly. "mm... I don'... hurt as much... thanks... you're not.... bad... sorry..."

Mandrake smiled at the young Koromon before he looked at the DemiDevimon as she mentioned the appropriate plants needed. "At least if we can make a medicine to bring down her fever she should feel somewhat better. Then my fiance and I can transport her to the nearest hospital in our car." Mandrake said knowing his daughter would be freaking out if she was conscious. Speaking of his family he decided to communicate with them as he placed his fingers on his temple sending a telepathic message to Lothar not wanting disturb Circe in her rest. After a few moments he took his fingers from his temples and said "I was just told that other than being asleep she is still burning up. Otherwise she seems fine."
As she flew away as swiftly as she could and though Mandrake heard her words as she left he said nothing. Soon the DemiDevimon returned with the herbs before introducing herself and he said "My name is Mandrake." Then she blasted off again. When the Koromon spoke Mandrake said "Don't worry. I'm sure we can find your village. It shouldn't be far from here if you came here with friends, right?"

Koromon slowly hopped in place to turn around, looking into the distance. "That... that way..." he said sleepily. "I think. Can't be that far... I'm not so fast..."
Devita rushed around in the distance, examining every plant. Some were poisonous, some were useless, and some were more of the same ones she already gave to Mandrake. However, she slowly but surely found plants that help with countering lethargy, improving appetite, and boosting Digimon immune systems. Soon she had a large bundle of plant matter that she rushed back to Mandrake and the Koromon, plopping them down and starting to sort them. "Okay, these broad leaf ones help with lost appetite, these here help with low energy without being a stimulant, these help fight off different illnesses..."
She looked at the tired Koromon, then at Mandrake. "Hm. Looks like he might need some rest. Poor thing."
"Nnnooo... not tiiiired..."
"Sure... sure. You're probably right. What do you think, Mandrake?"

Mandrake watched as it seemed Koromon had more energy then before since he had healed his minor injuries but also seemed to be tired as he indicated where his home likely was. Him being tired was understandable considering all the little one had been through. "Don't worry. If it's not far I can carry you to your village but let's wait for Devita to return." Mandrake said gently rubbing between Koromon's antenna like he did with most of his children when they were babies.
Soon Devita returned with more herbs telling him what they were for. Sure he had some knowledge in healing herbs but some were plants he didn't know were even herbs. With Devita having more medical knowledge than him he knew it made sense. "You sure know more about herbs than I do. I just know about some basic healing herbs because my father taught me about them. If I showed more intrest in them maybe I would of known more." Mandrake said to the DemiDevimon nurse.
"I agree. He looks exhausted. Perhaps we should take him home before heading back to the campsight where my fiancé and daughter are. Judging by what Koromon has told me it looks like his village is not far from here. Neither is my family's campsight so it won't be too much of a diversion." Mandrake said as he gently picked up the Koromon cradling him much like he would any of his children.

Devita beamed at the compliment on her herb knowledge. "Well," she said, "not to tell you my life's story or anything, but I do have both medical training and botanical training. I've had great teachers!"
However, she was less happy about Mandrake ignoring lessons. She was far from furious, but had a slight pout."Its never too late to learn. Knowledge is power, and power's pretty important sometimes." She then shrugged, pretty impressive for someone with wings instead of arms and shoulders. "To each their own. I heard ignorance can be bliss after all." She then giggled and winked at Mandrake. "Kidding~"
The poor Koromon, despite his protests, soon fell asleep in Mandrake's arms as he carried him. "Thank you," Devita replied, "I am glad you are willing to carry him home, wherever that is. I would but..." She wiggled her talons to make it obvious where she was going with that. "Anyways... I'll keep a lookout for any attacking enemies. You're the Champion-level, but... no fighting carrying the patie- I mean kid."
