"The river! The river! The river!"
If anyone was paying attention they would see the odd site of a boy walking down a sidewalk with a talking bag. A bag that was jumping up and down like an excited puppy with shoved in there. Which would be a close guess to what was actually going on.
Hiro rolled his eyes and tapped the bag a bit harder than he needed to remind Tetsu that he needed to be quiet. The little guy was getting a bit stir crazy inside the house so he decided that he would show Tetsu around the city. The little Dorimon had only really seen the park and his school so it would be a good bonding experience.
He had asked Tetsu where he wanted to go and the tiny fox digimon had responded immediately that he wanted to see the river. Shun, Hiro's older brother, had described the flowing river to Tetsu a bunch of times and the digimon wanted to see it for himself. Knowing what his brother had done, Hiro decided that he could play along.
Hiro finally came to a stop as they reached their destination. "Alright buddy, here we are. Shibuya River, just as I remember it."
Tetsu popped his head out of the messenger bag he was hiding in with a excited cry. The burst of excitement continued for a bit as he looked around for the river before it turned to confusion. He raised his face to his partner and whined. "Hiro, where's the river?"
"Right there buddy." Hiro pointed at the site where the river used to be. Instead of a river, there sat a trench filled with garbage. It was a sad example of urbanization and the lack of nature minded people in a developing city. Hiro looked down and found that Tetsu had the most adorable expression of heartbreak on his face. Hiro grinned and snapped a picture of his digimon with his phone to show his brother later.
"But, but, but... river..." Tetsu stared at the landfill in devastation.
"Sorry buddy. The Shibuya river's not exactly a river anymore." Hiro looked down and chuckled at the tear filled eyes of his partner. Seeing the confusion on Tetsu's face, Hiro relented and explained the trick to show foreigners the river without explaining what had happened to it.
Tetsu pouted as he realized he had been tricked. "Hiro's mean~" Tetsu looked sadly at the 'river' before his expression turned from pouting to an expression of curiosity. There was something odd about the river. There was something tugging at him.
Tetsu's examination of the river was disrupted when Hiro rubbed a hand on his head. "I'll make it up to you buddy. How about I get us some food on the way home."
Tetsu perked up at the thought of food. "Can I get some metal?"
Hiro tilted his head as he pondered the request. "I don't see why not. I could probably buy a cheap pocket knife or something for you to eat."
Tetsu cheered and started yelling about eating some tasty metal, the odd tugging at his mind completely forgotten. Further down the river where neither of the two partners had even glanced at, a portal to another world lay hidden away from the duo for a little while longer.
