The woman nodded almost absentmindedly, perhaps a bit closer to "mechanically" when Yuji thanked her. Her eyes glanced the newcomer, then at Clayton, both demanded her to divulge her identity.
"...Does the name Makoto-no-kami means anything to you? No?" she did not even pause to let the other answer. "Then i don't think 'Veritas' meant anything to you either... This world's administrator... who is in charge?" she asked instead. But it does not seem she's really asking for answer either. She continued, unpausing. "My name is Roze. I am one of Agent of Veritas. That... would be the name of our world's administrator. Our Digital World, which are now in shambles. I believe... according to Renge, your kind named our world 'ExD Dimension'."
She glanced at Oogata once more, then walked to his side. "...I should have expected you to not simply perish..." for once, an emotion is apparent on her face. Anguish? Sadness? She gently touched his face. "...I am sorry, Shin... truly sorry.... we had no choice..."
Then, her eyes looked at Mantis again, expression returned to neutral. "Merger...yes, I think I should explain it from the beginning, but... first...."
She raises her hand to the sky and shoot out a light... light that erected a barrier.
"While in real world my power is limited, but this should cover us from being seen by the uninitiated and by human technology. This incident however, is too massive... hence it's impossible for us to cover it from the world. Instead, we will cooperate with you, chosen of this world. For what it is worth, I suggest you to make yourself comfortable as this would be a long topic... and perhaps a heavy subject...
...and perhaps it would be wise, to wait slightly..." Roze glanced at direction where Octavio is heading from.
Once she's sure that all parties are accounted for, she craned her head at the sky for a moment. "...Let's see... the year... would be... around 202x? This world, I mean. Hmmm... how nostalgic. In that case... our world would be around this year too. I hail from a world where the Digital World is perhaps much less... accomodating than yours. This is slightly off topic but is important to explain, so bear with me.
Our Digimon's origin are rooted from what your kind calls 'Youkai', specifically ones that lives by taking in human emotions. Some, who formed strong bond with the human world, would form partnership with them, just like an onmyouji and shikigami. This was the form of chosen in very early tenth century."
Roze's eyes still lingers at Oogata... whom she called Shin. "...As you might know, such creatures lives by taking in human emotions. By doing so they grew stronger and more powerful. At first, these beings only chose innocent humans, humans with "potential". But you see... hunger, famine, disease, death... and finally... war warped humans and their emotions. At first some of these yokai are attracted to these dark emotions and partnered themselves to these warped humans... only to be warped in turn. The worst came after two world wars. Resentment was very strong, along with death and profound sadness. They warped many Yokai beyond recognition. Not only that, as technology develops, less and less people are able to see yokai, as "knowledge" blurs "mystery". Yokai's existence are defined by mystery. The less you champions logic and accept mystery as mystery, the stronger they would exist.
The strongest among their being, Makoto-no-Kami, was a deified yokai who once partnered to an onmyouji. He was concerned with the state of affair. Being a powerful yokai, he was resistant to the human world influence... but that would not be so for most yokai. If we simply cut off human world and create our own world, then we would, undobtedly, die. Hence, sacrificing his flesh and turning most of as a fuel of change, Makoto-no-Kami evolved into our administrator, Veritas... and his flesh, become Digital World. We used the wave of change human technology brought us and evolved accordingly, into Digital Being.
However, our base instinct is that of a yokai. We're closer to fairies... We could not understand human as well as some of you could. Despite so, Veritas wished to build a bridge between real world and digital world, and chose humans with potential, pure ones.... and bestowed them..." Roze took out a compass-like device. It looked like an old time watch, but... it's definitely a digivice. It's cracked beyond recognition though.
"...The Digivice."
There's a moment of pause before Roze continued. "...This world's human perhaps are not tuned to be like ours, but in our world, chosen are those who are partnered with Digimons. This bond creates a reaction in their psyche that allows them to use Digisoul. The higher your Digimon's stage, the stronger your bond. The stronger your bond, the more your digisoul flare. Our Digisoul is not... simply emotions to evolve your Digimon... but also a weapon. Our chosen, without doubt, are much physically stronger than yours in retrospect."
-but that's neither here nor there- Roze admitted, smiling bitterly.
"...Let's see... now to the meat of the situation. in year 2019, our human world was hit by a deadly pandemic... it wasn't until 2022 that we managed to fully deal with it... to prevent such devastating pandemic to happen unabated once more, human world leader decided to collaborate in modernizing the world's internet speed. We think it might reach 6G perhaps. This would mean an unprecedented evolution will hit Digital World also... and at that time, we were discussing about what should we do to prevent time difference between real world and digital world to deviate so much. The least we want to happen is for human and Digimon to be separated longer due to time dilation. But turned out, it was all for naught.
What happened next... would be a disaster, almost akin to several nuclear weapons went off at the same time.
Conspiracy theorist, hackers and the likes... They believed that the pandemic was byproduct of government bioweapons and some world leaders purposely culling their own country population to deal with population boom. After all... 7 million people died due to that pandemic. However, in their shortsightedness, they launched a ransomware virus directed at various countries' government system, hoping to use them as leverage to release damning information on the government.
...However, one fo these virus accidentally gobbled up... a digital lifeform under strict watch of certain nation. The virus mutated, into a world eating monstrosity that began corroding its way to our digital world. We sent our strongest fighters to intercept it, only for them to be eaten in turn. Before we knew it, apocalypse is upon us.
The rest... you probably have heard. ExD program was our attempt send some of our world's Digimon to yours... but unfortunately, it mutated into what you know now as ExD virus. While that happened however, the rest of us decided to fight the final stand for our world. It's soon clear to us however, that we're fighting a losing battle... we're consumed left and right. Digimon denied rebirth... human dying miserably as their very soul pulled apart by those foul beasts. Some took flight in response, and we did not blame them... However, at that point, it was already hopeless.... Our Admin Veritas, without any choice left, decided to purge the Digital World, to destroy the remaining digital blight... but in doing so, we doomed 99% of the digital world, including the chosen that chose to stay."
...Then her eyes glanced at Oogata once more. "...Including Shin. That world's version of him... that is. He... was something like my charge. I have... knew him..." tears slowly streaming down the digital lifeform lady's cheeks. "...Since he was eight... He was a charming boy who simply... wanted to protect his second home... I have told him to run... multiple times... But he... he believed that we could win..."
More and more tears were shed. "...We are... agents of Veritas... It's our nature... to unshakingly believe in conviction of our chosen... " her hands trembled. "And so with such a conviction burning strong, who am I to deny our chosen of the fight they believe they could win? ...And in turn... we doomed them... We doomed them when our master decided to purge our world... otherwise... otherwise the whole human world would be doomed..."
Almost powerlessly, Roze fell on her knees, weeping. "...I'm sorry, Shin...! I'm so sorry...!! I should have forced you to fly away... I should have... told you to just run... And now... your soul drifted to this world... finding alternate version of yourself...!"
"...Does the name Makoto-no-kami means anything to you? No?" she did not even pause to let the other answer. "Then i don't think 'Veritas' meant anything to you either...
