"Err... The beach?" Was there one so near? Kai was no master of the layout of the Digital World... But the last beach he'd gone to, was hours away... Flying! But... Gotsumon probably knew better than him. Not that he particularly cared either way. "Sure, why not."
"Well, honestly... There's not much to say. I'm just a human. I wake up, go to school, go home. A few months ago these two showed up. Since then... I swear, I haven't gone a day without meeting a new Digimon or tamer of some ilk. It's weird! They're so... ubiquitous, yet... For the most part, no one's ever heard of them. Sorry, I honestly don't have much to tell you." There really wasn't anything to say. "Yeah! We get to make his life interesting!" Shiro happily agreed, trotting along. Interesting was one way to put it.
Oh, great. Now it was Kai's turn to ask questions. Huh... He... didn't really have anything to ask. Well, to be safe... Start with something generic. "So, uhh... How long have you two been..." Kai trailed off, not sure how to phrase it. "Partners?" "Two minds in one body?" "A spirit user?" He wasn't really good at this stuff. He wished there was a collective term for all people, tamer, spirit user, or those people with Xros Loaders he'd only seen a couple of times. One term to sum them all up.

"How long've we been together?" The gotsumon asked. "A couple months, not even a year. It's a long story but since we're heading out anyways I may as well tell you." Gotsumon coughed and cleared her throat (which she has, apparently). "It was... uh, what year is it right now? Anyways, it was a REALLY long time ago, during the war. You're probably too young to know about the war, but long ago two clans of Digimon got into a dispute over land and who owned what. The land was divided amongst the mechanical and the natural, and a no-mon's-land was built for warring. One day, a group of thieves from neither faction got involved and started stealing from one side and selling to another. They started simply, with food, water, basic supplies, things you could never pin down you know? Then one day the thieves began stealing valuables. I personally don't know what it was, a watch, a locket, a necklace? Whatever could be identified, you know? Well this is where it gets interesting."
"One day, the thieves broke into the leader's homes and grabbed an item from both of them, then sold said item to the enemy side, the two groups not knowing where the other item went and took the new one as a present for the leader. One day, an agreement was reached, and the two leaders met to discuss the treaty, bringing their new precious items to display and impress their former opponents. Gotsumon paused, "Well, let's just say neither of them left the meeting alive. I was neither of those leaders, nor a soldier. What I was was a civilian."

"Oh, uhh... Okay." Kai... Didn't really get it. What did this story have to do with Carrie? Or Gotsumon for that matter! She said it herself, she was a civilian! What did she have to do with that? He didn't doubt that she was telling the truth... But... What did it have to do with anything!?
Shiro, on the other hand, lapped it up! "Ooh! Ooh! What happened next!? What happened next!" The young Digimon bounced excitedly. Kuro... Was less than interested in the tale, but since Shiro was so excited to hear more... Well, she could let it go on for a bit longer.

"Well, the war got worse, and the no mon's land began expanding, growing larger and larger as more weapons were built and used. I lived in a small hut outside one of the villages. In fact, there's the remains of it now." She pointed to a massive pile of rocks, splayed out at seemingly random. "One day, the soldiers brought Catapults." She began. "They were throwing whatever they could at each other. Rocks, logs, rotten meat, even other digimon. So the no-mon's-land expanded. One day, soldiers charged into my home, mistaking it for a pile of rocks. They began taking my things, and since they were generally champs and ultimates I couldn't do anything. I began shouting at their commander and we got into an argument, just as the enemy began loading explosives into their catapults..." Gotsumon paused, trying to remember.
"There was some loud noises, then everything got dark... I couldn't talk or move or... I don't remember much beyond that until Carrie showed up." Gotsumon sighed. "Sorry, I probably should have kept that to myself."

Kai listened quietly throughout Carrie's... Throughout Gotsumon's story. It was still so hard to manage the idea that spirits had separate minds from that of the humans that became them. But... Gotsumon's story was... Somewhat sad. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to.. Bring up bad memories. Let's talk about something else." Besides, the rest of the story was fairly obvious. Gotsumon had become a spirit, Carrie had somehow stumbled upon her D-scanner and it had pointed her to Gotsumon's spirit. In the meantime... He was beginning to regret his choice of question.

"Anyways, that's WAY too much about me, yeah? Sorry about that. How about you, do you have any stories? Hopefully one that are not as messed up as mine." She chuckled. Carrie, meanwhile, had listened intently to Gotsumon's tale. She grew confused and worried. How come Gotsumon never told her any of that? Would any of that be important later on? ...Is gotsumon so boy-hungry because she was isolated for so long?

"Stories...? Not really... There was the time a Greymon showed up in the middle of Scramble Crossing. That was surprising! Thankfully, DATS showed up to save the day. What a mess it could have been otherwise! Also- You see all the destruction around here?" He waved around at a rather devastated area of the Network Plains. Somewhat like the massive crater that had been here longer than he had been a tamer, but on a smaller scale. "I kinda sorta maybe caused that. Indirectly. You see, I was wandering the forest, when I came upon a mansion. Against Kuro's better judgement... We went inside. And met a Digimon named Giygas." He paused to judge their reaction. There was a fine split between people who knew Giygas and those who didn't, and the rest of his story would be tailored to how much she knew.

"Giygas..." Gotsumon said, thinking on it. "I don't remember anyone by that name, or even a digimon that would've given itself a name." She paused. "Do you think I should get a name? ...Er, sorry, right, your story here."

"Ah. Well, this Giygas... According to him, he was a part of a group. A group so powerful that they controlled the entire world... Actually, both worlds, according to him. I'm not sure how much of that was the truth... But all these considered, it could be. Well, anyways, I met Giygas. He told me about that group, the Hakainushi. He also... Got rather angry, it seemed, when I tried to explain that I didn't really have any goals or ambitions. Anyways, to make a long story short... We had an extremely short practice bout, Shiro rejected an offer of ultimate power... And I'm sure Giygas would have obliterated us on the spot, except Shiro mentioned being hungry and he ended up inviting us out for Sushi. I.... Don't really get it, either. He didn't seem the sanest Digimon I've ever met."
"Well, we were eating... Well, Shiro and Giygas were, Kuro and I weren't, but that's not really important. Well, someone showed up- Someone who clearly knew Giygas, or recognized him or something. Anyways... Things developed quickly, and before I knew it, Giygas had somehow dropped a meteor on Terminus. Which was then destroyed by the other Digimon- I never did learn her name." Him nearly getting crushed by a shard of said meteor... Eh, he'd leave that out. "Well, it escalated from there. Then a third Digimon showed up... Though he was too preoccupied rescuing innocent bystanders to join the battle. I'll admit, I got on the first train back to the human world, and didn't look back."
Well, in the end, it was a story of his own cowardice and uselessness. Not cool at all. It didn't help... That Kai wasn't really the best storyteller. "That's... Pretty much the only story I have. I, uhh... Haven't really done that much since becoiming a Tamer, to be honest."

"A group that rules both worlds... absolute power corrupts absolutely." Gotsumon said, completely unaware that a human said that. "Sushi... huh, you people think with your guts a lot. Makes me glad I don't have 'em." She smirked, but frowned at the mention of Terminus' destruction. "That's terrible! Why'd they do it?" Gotsumon asked, realizing shades of the past were bleeding into the future. She grabbed his hand, frowning deeply.
"How many did you save? Humans, digimon, women and children? An event that size would be considered Genocide and I am NOT going to let that pass!" She pointed to terminus. "Take me to the building you met him. This isn't a vacation anymore, this is a mission!" She spoke more passionately than she did at any point of Carrie or Kai knowing her, "I am going to tear those lunatics apart for doing this again! This was supposed to be the future, the world is supposed to be better, now it's just a war between innocents and murderers!"

How many had he saved... No. He hadn't saved anyone. He was too scared. Acknowledging his own cowardice stung, it stung deeply. He nearly started making a defensive statement, something to justify his own actions. But he couldn't. He had been a coward, had fled in shame. There was no excuse, even the fact that there wasn't much he could do. He hung his head in shame. It was probably as good as any answer he could have given. "Why, I don't know. They both sort of... Antagonized each other. And even if I could take you to that mansion, I wouldn't. I saw Giygas fight. I can't just tell you where to march to your death. And you would die, if you fought Giygas. I can assure you that."
"Anyways, I couldn't guide you there even if I wanted to. All I remember of the path there is that it's deep in the Eastern Woodlands. But even if you want to dig through it in hopes of finding Giygas- Just remember that it's not just you in that body. If... When... Giygas destroys you, he'll kill Carrie too. Sense of justice or no, can you really drag her into this?" It was cold. The coldest thing Kai had ever said. But he couldn't emphasize enough- Giygas was dangerous. Dangerous and insane. And he regretted even mentioning the woodlands. Because he knew that it was true, that Giygas both could and would tear Gotsumon apart, and Carrie with him. And that blood would be on Kai's hands.

She turned to look at him, realizing how dark this conversation had turned. They were supposed to be picnicking, eating food and having fun, but she had to ask him questions, she had to tell him stories, she had to bring herself into this. She wasn't afraid of death, that she knew, and she was about to say this until he said something that rocked her to the core.
"Carrie..." She said, realization hitting her. Carrie had remained silent too, not quite understanding that she would be in danger too. Both of them were quiet as gotsumon stopped and stared at the ground.

An awkward silence rose as neither Kai nor Gotsumon knew what to say. Even Shiro seemed to feel the mood, for once, and stayed clammed up. Kuro was as... Taciturn as ever. Come on, Shiro. Kai mentally begged. Say something stupid and break this awkwardness! Like usual! But his silent pleas went unanswered.
