Kay guys, this is gonna be an interesting thread. While not vital in the grand scheme of things, some plot-related stuff will happen. Here's what you can expect.
—No post order at first. It'll begin as soon as combat proper begins. Just make sure to post once per time I do. —A somewhat short thread, given everyone replies more or less on time. I expect two months at most. —Not much investigation; this is gonna be the testbed of something I have in mind. Expect a highly tactical fight. —The difficulty bar will be quite high; you'll need a fair bit of teamwork in order to succeed. and failing will have consequences, even if nothing dramatic. —Maximum time tolerance will be three days; five if there's a justification to it. No exceptions; failing to comply to this will result in the person in question being skipped and/or replaced. 4-people plot threads are very delicate to run, and a sudden cooldown can be really harmful. I'll be really strict with this. —There's no minimum level to join, as long as you stick with the above guidelines. Now, let's begin!
It was funny to think that long ago, a dormant city, nothing more and nothing less than a sleeping civilization lurked right under Terabyte Mountain. Biding its time, threatening to resurface once again and unleash unknown perils into the outside world. Each time, its advanced had been thwarted by many groups of brave adventurers, yet the threat had never been completely vanquished; with each cycle, it just went dormant, only to resurface even stronger than before. Its form was perfected with each iteration of the cycle; a cycle that was about to begin yet again. At the base of the mountain, a loud boom was heard, the land roaring in order to open the way to what looked like an ancient tunnel, delicately carved in stone that had been long-buried under years of snow. Unmarred and devoid of any taint, the path led underground, and directly into the mountain. Would it lead towards its heart, or... somewhere else? And most importantly, would any nearby souls be brave enough to find out?

Okay, it was not a surprise at all that Akemi was still in the northern prominence. It was really, really cold, and Anzu was being fussy and fuzzy as usual. So...Yeah, it was actually really by the books for the poor gal. This time her travels took her and her purple pal to the Terabyte Mountain, where...It was really quiet on her end.
Quiet until the boom came. "Hey, hey! Take me there, I wanna see the big smoldering crater!" "Why?" "CAUSE THOSE ARE COOL."
...That didn't even... "No, really, give me one good reason wh-" "BECAUSE I SAID SO!"
And thus! Akemi began to head towards the source of the sound. Wasn't a far walk, but...She stopped dead in front of the opened way into the ancient tunnel.
A question had to be asked by both entities here.
"What...?"

The frigid peaks of the Terabyte Mountain called to Toki's sense of adventure. He was hiking along the pathways when all of a sudden a deafening sound echoed across the mountainside "Uh, what's happening?" he asked his spirit companion.
"I don't know but I would suggest spirit evolving and getting out of the way. Now!" he shouted.
Toki looked up and saw the snow that began to crumble down from the sound "Ah nuts..." he muttered before he quickly gathered data in his hand and swiped it across the digivice in his other hand "Beast Spirit Evolution!" Thankfully the digivolution was quick enough for him to quickly bound to safety in his Lagosmon form. The large rabbit digimon landed safely away from the danger of the avalanche and scanned the area for what exactly caused that.
Eventually he spotted what looked to be a tunnel in remarkably good condition. He had passed this area before and he definitely would have remembered this being here before. "Wow...have you seen this place before?" he asked his spirit.
"No...this is the first I've seen this. I feel uneasy, Toki. While curiosity nags at me, I get the sense that traveling inside would be a death sentence by ourselves. We should wait and see if anyone else is in the area before going any further."
Toki nodded "Agreed. That sound must have been heard for miles, so let's wait and see who arrives, if anyone." he said. Thankfully being Lagosmon had the luxury of having a thick coat of fur to keep the cold at bay. As he waited, he thought about what they would find inside. If there were enemies, how would they deal with the situation? How would he work together with whoever arrived? It was quite puzzling, though he had hoped his strength would be at least somewhat helpful.
He heard bewildered voices nearby and looked up to see two strangers "Looks like I'm not the only one who was drawn to that sound." he said in a friendly tone. He was somewhat worried, as the Digimon seemed to be a Rookie. If that was their strongest, it could be extra dangerous. Though he would not deny them this chance if they were set on exploring as well. "I'm not sure where this goes, but I'm waiting on others to arrive and help me find out. I'm Toki Akiyama, a spirit user. Nice to meet you both."

"Damn, it's cold here..." Adrian complained as he and his partner traversed Terabyte Mountain. "What are we doing here, anyways?"
"Well, you never know when there'll be adventure," his partner, Shoutmon, answered happily. "Plus... I heard there might be information on RedMagnamon somewhere in the Northern Prominence. It could very well be here."
"Oh yeah..." Adrian muttered. Recently, Shoutmon has been having a pretty BIG problem. According to these two Ultimate levels who tried kidnapping him, he's the reincarnation of a super-bad Digimon called RedMagnamon. Ever since then, the two had been trying to search for ANY kind of information on the subjec-
KABOOOOOOM!
"What the hell?!" Adrian yells, trying to hold onto something. "What was that?!!!"
"I have no clue, but we should probably go check it out. It's probably those goons again."
"Hold on wait for me!"
So, the two headed towards the source of the sound, where they noticed a couple other people had heard it as well. But the big question was where did that ancient tunnel lead...?

"...Why are we up here in the cold place again? Thought ya wanted nothin' to do with snow?" A voice comes from an unfamiliar, blonde haired witch Digimon, wearing a winter coat over her red dress, floating on her broom alongside a warm-dressed woman with green hair barely visible from the puffy hood of her own coat. She briefly pulls it down to look at the others here, a slight tilt to her head, but she doesn't speak for now, letting the witch speak, cackling at the commotion. "C'mon, do ya even remember, ya big dork? Or did ya get distracted?"
"We were going to try and find that statue again, but... This looks more important." The green haired woman quickly puts her hood back up, not wanting to get cold in the mountains. "What exactly is going on here? Either way, I should introduce myself... I'm Alice, this is Dorothy, we're... Researchers." She glances up at the group and notes that nobody here is familiar, to say in the least. The first person to attract her interest is Toki, her fascination with Spirit Warriors showing through. "I think I overheard your name, sir, so I don't need an introduction. Either way, it's good to meet..." She notices yet another duo, this time a pair of red Digimon and a young man, head over, but she mostly ignores them for now. "...All of you. It's good to see people this curious about... Whatever is going on here."
Dorothy seems more interested in the Tsukaimon at first, gently floating over to them on her broom, but the other pair grabs at her attention more. "Hey. You too seem to be lookin' for somethin'. Not the same thing as Alice here, but... Guess most people up here are searching." She shrugs, gently drifting upwards to get a better view of the group, and then back down to the pair. "...Guess we're all goin' in there together."
The green haired Tamer nods. "Yes. Who wants to head in first? We should be careful, though... Last time I was here wasn't fun."

A seismic event that could be felt throughout the entirety of the digital world - nothing the sensors of Vertigo the empowered AceJetmon were not capable of picking up either. Formerly thought to be merely another cruise through the eternal blue of this planet's sky, it was this sudden occurrence that demanded the full attention of the sentient flying machine; and of course that of the mercenary who sat inside its vitreous cockpit. The fact that many more people appeared on the scanners was disconcerting though, for they were likely in far greater danger than they comprehended. However, that was all the impetus for Cion to act without hesitation.
The booming, acoustic shocks of nearby jet engines could easily be heard as the skybound plane soared over the Terabyte Mountain. It ejected something, a black silhouette that dashed towards the ground at terminal velocity. Yet just before the impact its lost speed dramatically, landing safely and without any dust or debris dispersed on the rocky surface close to the once hidden entrance. Naturally it was the unassuming yet ascended officier of PROFIT's 'contract' department - a bipedal, genderless silver fennec with the size of a toddler and the voice of a female teenager.
With her partner providing her a safe way to retreat in case things got impossible to solve, the vulpine sentinel beat a few pieces of dirt out of her platinum fur and then approached the group that had assembled in front of the access to this potentially dangerous system of caverns ahead of them. Unfortunately, the restrained Arniomon did not recognize Toki, a treasured acquaintance of her, as she had never witnessed his Ultimate form. That was why she perceived everyone else present at the scene as strangers who might be over their head remaining in this hazardous place.
"Are you sure about this?" Cion asked the Witchmon named Dorothy who seemed way too eager to get herself into trouble. The tiny warden voiced her concerns with a firm tone, hoping those displaying bravado would their premature decision a second thought. Turning to all the others, the Arniomon simply did not know if it was a good idea to let them do as they please, mostly because she was not aware of the extent of their power. An exploding alp was nothing to be taken lightly.
However, when the green-haired partner of the blond witch expressed her familiarity of the situation, as unlikely as it was, the silver fox simply nodded. "Then please tell us everything you remember. And if all of you must see this for yourself as well, then I happily volunteer to head in first - unless you know the way around, ma'am." Cion spoke calmly, addressing Alice towards the end of her little speech.

The path went ahead and down, extending itself for five hundred and becoming progressively darker as the sun's pale rays began to slowly fade. Natural light was unable to reach the tunnel's depths, but that could be solved if anyone in the group provided other means to illuminate the scenery. As (and if) the group advanced, the usual, arctic climate of Northern prominence would also slowly recede, their surroundings growing warmer by the second. Not to an uncomfortable degree, but definitely unlike any other place they had visited in the north. Regarding the tunnel? The patterns adorning its walls began to grow in complexity, even if their artistry was decidedly... strange, at least by Digital World standards. To an avid observer, it was almost as if a story had been recounted in one giant mural. Three classic ships, slowly advancing through the horizon towards an unknown shore, with the caveat that every tripulant was a human. Eventually, they reach their destination and disembark at their destination. A massive pair of double-doors stops the tale from reaching its climax, its ebony walls shining faintly with a short inscription. Is it glory? Maybe treasure? Or just an epic story? No matter the measure. The Great City shall stand tall. Regardless of what will befall.

In all seriousness? Akemi hadn't expected anyone else to actually be nearby. But...well...She had been proven wrong. Oops! She turned towards Toki and gave the man a nod. A spirit wielder like Elliot. Huh. "Amaya Akemi. It's nice to meet you. Uh...This is my...charge? Partner? Either way, this is Anzu." "BUH." It was a very rousing speech from Anzu, who puffed her cheeks out and waved.
And waved. Seriously, she kept waving at the green haired lady and her witch, and the other digimon. "Hi! Weeeee're also here to figure out what that is. So maybe we're part-time researchers now!" ...Did she just not notice Adrian and Shoutmon? Maybe. But in her defense they hadn't quite said hi or anything...
But a consensus was reached. It seemed people wanted to go inside. "In that case, I'm ready when you are, Alice." ...Why was the witch looking at her guinea pig like that...? Probably nothing. But she kept her gaze on the tunnel.

Toki looked at the group that had amassed together and thought for a moment "I'm surprised so many people happen to be in the area right now...either way, I'm glad for it since this isn't something I want to investigate by myself." he looked up at Adrian and the Shoutmon as they arrived. They hadn't said anything yet, but he called out "There's no telling how far down this goes, so be careful okay? Same goes for everyone else here." he said. Sometimes he worried that he was too protective of everyone else. They could probably hold their own.
He waved happily at Alice and Dorothy "Nice to meet you. What exactly has been going on around here? Even if it's unrelated, it could help to know other things happening." he said, stepping down towards the ruins. "Oh dear...it's quite dark. Does anyone here have a way to light the way?" he asked. Whatever happened he would continue on with the group, following close behind Cion.
He smiled at Akemi and Anzu "A pleasure to meet you both. I think a word you could use to describe them is friend, maybe? I don't want to assume too much but I do hope you consider each other friends." the Tsukaimon's enthusiasm was quite adorable to Toki to say the least.
As he followed behind Cion, he looked around at the walls "This is definitely an interesting place...these figures depicted are definitely human..." he said. "Is this telling some kind of story?"
He looked down at the Arniomon "Have...have we met? Does the name Toki ring a bell?" he asked, chuckling to himself. The small Digimon just seemed so familiar "This must be another case of new forms confusing me. I still haven't quite gotten down how to recognize Digimon I know...as bad as that sounds." he said as they continued walking.
The door was certainly perplexing. The message on it was fascinating "The Great City...seems like whatever this place is, those who settled here were very proud of it. What happened, then?"

Alice illuminates the way ahead of herself with her lighter, the faint orange flame's glow dimly lighting up the carvings along the walls as she travels forwards with the rest of the group, her eyes glinting with that excitement and wonder she craves. "...Nobody open the door yet, just give me a moment to... Dorothy, can you give me a better light for a second?" Everything so far has only gathered her interest further, from the designs on the wall, the warmth radiating from past the door... "Yeah, yeah." Alice's Digimon partner snaps her fingers, and a slightly more impressive flame forms in her hand, making the elaborately decorated stones even easier to see as Alice quickly takes out her notebook to write inside it, the witch rolling her eyes. "C'mon, explain to Toki what we were doin'. It's a fun story, I chucked someone off a cliff while they were tryin' to stop us from climbin' the mountain.""Right. Well, me, Dorothy, and a few others were up here to research the Digital World, and then we got caught up in helping some Digimon find a rather... Interesting statue of a tiger Digimon. We also got attacked by some freaks who wanted to stop us." The green haired woman quickly scribbles down a few notes on what she's seeing, her writing becoming slightly frantic, even frustrated for a moment before she sighs, and sets her book back into her bag. "...This doesn't make sense. What are carvings and murals of human beings doing in the Digital World? Good observation, by the way. You're right in that they tell a story."Dorothy just laughs at this question, leaning back on her broom and dimming the flame in her hand slightly. "Beats me. You're the one interested in all the mystery stuff. Only way you're gonna find out is by goin' through that door." "...Yes. That's more important. What happened here? Why was this place sealed up?" The green haired woman is nudged forwards by her partner, closer to the door. "You'll never find out if ya just sit there 'n speculate like the dork ya are! Look 'round, this is the perfect opportunity for ya, and you're just writin' notes and stuff. C'mon, live a little 'n open it." Dorothy states this with a cheerful, confident grin, perhaps trying to egg Alice on a bit.
Alice steps in front of the door, looking towards the rest of the group with a slightly nervous smile. "Well, let's go. Any objections?"

After a bit of thinking, and listening to the other members of the group, Adrian and Shoutmon decided to go into this new tunnel, with Shoutmon holding a Fiery Fastball in his paw to act as a sort of torch. As they did, they decided to introduce themselves.
"Uh... hello. My name's Adrian, and this here is my partner Shoutmon..." What am I saying? These people don't care about some random teenager and his red dragon. God damn, I'm such a loser... Adrian was snapped out of his thoughts when Toki warned the group about the dangers of this tavern.
"Dangers?" Shoutmon said sarcastically. "I was expecting something similar to a bouncy house!"
"Now's not the time for your 'witty sense of humor,' Shoutmon..."
As they went along, they noted how it definitely was getting warmer. Warm to the point where Adrian had to put his grey sweater in his backpack, revealing his red T-Shirt. "Okay, did anyone bring a heater or something?"
That's when Adrian noticed the bizarre markings on the wall. Curious, he followed them all the way to the end, until the conclusion with the inscription was reached.
"'The Great City shall stand tall, Regardless of what will befall...' Does anyone know what that might mean?"

If pushed, the doors would reveal a bigger hallway, more or less twice as wide as the narrow path that everyone had trod thus far, and big enough to fit a Greymon inside if there was the need. A bit ominous, but nothing extremely out of the ordinary. After the necessary precautions taken, the tale would continue, silently engraved alongside the path's walls.
This time, it shone with more detail, or maybe by virtue of just being better conserved than the snow-beaten walls outside.
The unknown shore became a mass of land, and the expedition had disembarked successfully, finding the resistance of the natives, who resembled... primitive variations of modern digimon. However, the moral showed the exploit of the brave group of humans while the subjugated the natives and claimed the land as their own, building splendorous cities and palaces in their wake?
What had been of them, however? They had been irrevocably pushed back; forced to withdraw further and further into the confines of the world, seeking refuge, or merely just avoiding extermination by what looked like a more intelligent, and better-prepared group. By the end of the mural, a figure stood tall among the natives, standing next to what looked like a giant pyramid. The drawing was crude, but it looked like the digimon was calling out for something, or maybe hoping for divine intervention; anything that could save their people from extinction.
Once again, the tale ended there, yet... this time the doors that impeded their advance were jet-black, and seemed to be completely imposing in comparison to the previous set. No inscription was written in them; instead, three pairs of prints, resembling humans hands were carefully engraved on the door's center and its extremes. Maybe that was meant to be the opening mechanism? The fact that three different humans (or pairs of hands, for the crude types) to open a structure in the Digital World seemed a bit puzzling, to say the least...

As if on instinct from playing Skyrim a lot, Adrian decided to try and push open the doors, which of course revealed an even bigger hallway. One that could fit a dinosaur, most likely.
Shoutmon shuddered a little. "This whole place is giving me the willies... I don't like it at all."
"If it seems too dangerous, then we'll just leave, okay? Hey, is anyone else coming along?"
Adrian and Shoutmon would then continue on, with Adrian still inspecting the tale engraved on the walls. Now this tale was getting more intriguing...
"Hmmm... these walls show that ships arrived on land... and these look like Digimon. See, that one is a Greymon, and right there, that has to be a WereGarurumon... what could this all mean?"
"I think you're looking too deeply into it, Adrian. It's just drawings on a wall."
"No, these are like cavemen stories, etched onto stone walls from back in the days of early human. This reminds me of that." Then he read more and more...
"No way... it looks like the humans took out all of the native Digimon. They got pushed back... like the Native Americans back in Colonial America." He then noticed the primitive, rough drawing... of a Digimon on a pyramid. What did that mean?
Sadly, the story ended there as the group approached yet another set of doors. This time, no writing on it; now it looks like an imprint of a human hand. THREE of them, in fact. Cautiously, Adrian placed his hand over one of the prints, and expected the other humans to do the same.

Akemi stepped into the now-opened doors, and peered. Like everything else in this world it dwarfed her. "...Great City indeed, emphasis on the great." She looked around and then towards the walls. The witch lady had a point earlier, and it seemed to have struck home with Akemi. She was basically taking a close look at just about everything, notably letting go of Anzu while doing so. The Tsukaimon opted to stay close to the rest of the party. Namely Dorothy. "...Are you a wizard?" She inquired, before looking towards Shoutmon. "Well if it heebles your jimmies, how come you went in, huuuuh?"
And then it sort of hit Akemi. "It's less drawings on a wall and more like...hieroglyphics. Ancient stories like in a history class. Maybe that guy on the pyramid was their leader and they were one of those societies where the ruler's like...considered to be a god?" Like the Emperor of Japan once upon a time.
Her examination then took her to the second door. Three pairs of hands needed to open a door? This was either a trap or something else entirely. "...I'll put my hand on the opening thing if you guys help." Yep. that seemed fair. Anzu meanwhile spent her time flapping around and thinking on things being said earlier.
Friend. More of that would be nice. Maybe the human'd get that sort of idea sooner or later.

Well... so much for leadership and proper introductions. Oh well, if this was going to be a dangerous yet lighthearted adventure, then the Arniomon did not mind that prospect. As long as everyone, despite being strangers to each other, was capable of working somewhat in unison, no hazard was too difficult for them to overcome. The obvious exception was of course Toki, who had accidentally greeted her without the two recognizing the other. "Oh! Pleased to see you again. It's me, Cion." She calmly stated with a beaming grin, nudging the lad's hip to express how delighted as always she was to have a kind friend by her side.
And as the large group went inside, strange things soon revealed themselves to them. Murals that depicted events that were unlikely to have actually happened, the depth's darkness and a massive gate. Last but not least - the short poem. Was this great city that awaited them more of a mazy challenge tour than an actual place where living beings used to exist? The silver fennec was not sure, not did anyone else appear to have a clue on the matter. In the end, learning by experience was probably the only way to find out the truth.
With the doors pushed open by a couple of newcomers, a big hallway came into sight which was easily able to hold several titanic digimons, such as Greymons. The wall paintings continued, displaying primitive members of her kind as well as the voyagers interacting in extremely hostile ways with them. A feral world begets savage invaders - things had not really changed since the endeavors displayed here. Cion sighed in acceptance of the often wicked ways the people of her realm sought to carry themselves; something she was very interested in inhibiting forever.
Eventually, she and the others reached another gate, though this one was jet-black like a Devimon's soul. And its apparent opening mechanism seemed to require human hands, which was naturally not something she possessed. "Overlapping history - both here and on Earth - curious." She spoke under her breath, scratching her chin until realizing that they needed to get moving. "In any case... would any human among us be so courteous and open the doors for us?"
