MPC 56A: Out Of Depth, Out Of Mind: How It Should Have Ended

MPC Name: Levelling The Field MPC Number: 56A Reward: Bits
It was over. The control spire crumbled to nothing like it deserved. Gumdramon was safe, and all the digimon in the battle were healed up by Cion. Everyone was extremely grateful to her for her hard work in keeping the team going as long as it needed to accomplish their objective. "Thank you very much," Raidramon personally thanked the fox digimon.
"Yeah, uh... what's your name again? Thanks for, I guess, not letting us die." Apparently, not everyone was equally grateful; Leith still hadn't managed to even learn the medical digimon's name through the whole ordeal.
"Leith, she's-"
"'Ey, you know what? I know she healed you and everything, but that wasn't for you or for me. She just did that for the mission. You were very clear about what you really thought about me earlier just because I forgot your name. Like, shit, gimme a break!" Leith crossed his arms. "I was scared and said I'd apologize, but you know what? I kinda want you to apologize to me after that crap!"

Finally - the dark spire had been destroyed. Everyone was fine and dandy thanks to her digivolution and healing, which naturally Cion took hidden pride in. Most of her allies left quickly to find repose and quite likely a proper meal. This was a sentiment she shared, longing for a wholesome dinner and calm evening in Whitewater. Perhaps some acquaintances were there as well for her to invite and enjoy the night with. In any case, before that happened, to her surprise, a familiar, armored canine approached her to voice his appreciation.
With a rapt smile, she returned the kindness with a bow. "My pleasure." She assured the Raidramon. Unfortunately, her bliss swiftly faded due to the insufferable presence of an absolutely impudent lad. Him accusing her of cold-hearted efficiency struck a nerve for the restrained Arniomon considered herself a sentinel of her fellow campaigners and the innocent. This pretentious git had the hubris to confront her directly, a stance she certainly did not appreciate. "If only you had forgotten my name. You know exactly of your disrespectful poise, so stop acting like a lout, boy." She firmly warned the chap to keep it low lest he receive objurgation. Evidently she refused to apologize to him as she had done nothing wrong.

"Leith..." Apparently, Raidramon wasn't thrilled about the boy's impertinent attitude either and even less thrilled about the potential consequences of it. The digimon was trying to warn his Tamer not to poke the bear without putting it into so many words. Leith, however, was not following along. The battle had rattled him, sent his adrenaline and his emotions running high. Even if it was over, he couldn't just go ahead and settle right down like that, it seemed. To Cion he retorted, "Hey, you know what, kitty-cat? I know your kind. You're the type who likes to talk with that calm and cool demeanor to try and be morally superior, but you don't get it's really about your actions, not your fucking words - and if anyone knows that, it's me."
"Leith, back away."
"Screw that!" This was about the moment when the young man really messed it all up. He stepped forward with one hand curled into a fist, and when he did... he went and threw a punch at Cion. Word count: 171

Huh... interesting. Seldom had Cion seen a clear disagreement between a digidestined and his partner, but it was obvious that the Raidramon, especially after previous displays of gratitude, had no intention of taking sides. Leith was evidently behaving like a petulant child - an attitude that had to be supported by nobody. Naturally, the restrained Arniomon encountered it with the full strength of her sophistication and pristine lexis, attempting her best to show how imbecilic the impudent boy was carrying himself. Considering his ire, that seemed to work tremendously. He was making a verbal blunderer out of himself.
"As you are someone clearly blessed with an eloquent diction, I trust your expertise. Regrettably, there was not much action of yours I've witnessed thus far - except standing around, trembling and shouting. But I'm sure your next steps will be inspirational, my virtuous companion." The silver fennec humored the lad with a faint smirk and a teasing wink. Usually, she did not enjoy such infantile clashes, but given her adversary's behavior... it was just delightful to rap his knuckles.
Not that he was capable of actually comprehending half the words and their plenty of syllables she uttered. But similar to talking to a pet with silly voice, she got amusement out of his farce. That was until the chap walked towards her in an attempt to punch him. Exquisite, if aggravating. Grinning, her impetus was set - blocking the pitiful assault with her barrier. That was bound to teach him how utterly outclassed he was. Ambrosial...

The 140-pound Tamer's punch into the super mega's barrier defense went about as well as even one unfamiliar with digimon entirely would probably expect. Not only did the young man's fist bounce off the barrier as if Leith had been punching a rubber ball, but in fact the boy was thrown back by the force of his own punch and then some! The boy yelped and screamed on his way back about fifteen feet to fall into water about halfway to the knee deep, though it sure seemed deeper when Leith fell on his back. At least he managed to get back to his feet with no apparent injury, but his hand and wrist sure were sore.
"Leith!"
"I'm good. Wait..." Leith flopped his hand and wrist a little, trying to verify that nothing was broken. He was no doctor, but he thought, "Yeah, I'm good. Ow..."
Nevertheless, Raidramon growled and bared his fangs at Cion. "That was too far! You can't do that to a weaker human!"
"Standin' right here, still."
Driven by protective instinct, Raidramon became enveloped in the light of digivolution. While he was, he shrank and stood up on two legs. He was only three-and-a-half feet tall when he reached the form he was going for. "Raidramon, dedigivolve to... Veemon!"
Oh, this chick's done now.
"Vee Headbutt!" Charging right in, the rookie digimon led with his head and tried to bash his skull into Cion's. Maybe it worked and maybe it didn't, but in any case Veemon was furious and, therefore, reckless. Without readying a defense, he dove right back in for a second sequential, "Vee Headbutt!"
Raidramon devolved one stage to rookie Veemon. Veemon used Reckless to attack twice in this post.
Veemon attacked Cion with Vee Headbutt. Vee Headbutt was influenced by Berserker. Veemon attacked Cion with Vee Headbutt. Vee Headbutt was influenced by Berserker.
Reckless: This digimon forgoes defense completely in favor of attack, allowing him to quickly strike a single opponent twice with another named ability in one post. If the target attacks this digimon in its next post, this digimon cannot block or evade it. This ability does not count as this digimon's one action for the post. Cooldown: 3 posts
Vee Headbutt: Slams his head into the enemy with brutal force
Berserker (passive): This digimon focuses little on defense to instead optimize his offense. This increases both his accuracy and damage by about 20% but also decreases his ability to block or evade attacks by the same amount.

Oh, how stupendous the entertainment was. Seeing the puny, impudent human soar through the air like a soccer ball was among the most exquisite gags she had seen in decades. slapstick at its absolute finest, especially since this was real and not some comedy show in an alternate, fictional universe. In the end, what was left of the imbecilic boy was but a wet dog that nervously paddled in the ocean. Truly a textbook example of a digidestined and their worth for the digital realm. Without doubt it was people cut from the same cloth as Leith that would herald an unprecedented age of harmony.
Snickering at first, Cion rolled her eyes due to the Raidramon's sudden display of bewildering fatuousness. "I was but defending myself, dear. Your partner inflicted his suffering upon himself." She explained calmly, hoping that the armored reptile had not lost his sanity as well. There was no reason for them engage in contact, mainly because it was inane and futile. Watching him de-digivolve into a Veemon only amused the vulpine sentinel further. What was this silly child trying to accomplish with this? Was it their intention to force her hands and might against them? Frivolous children...
"Seriously, lad?" The silver fennec expressed her bafflement. Was this kid really so naive as to believe that a mere headbutt sufficed to hurt her? Geesh, what had the influence of the vile man done to this Rookie? Willing to humor the blue dinosaur for a while, her entire stance changed as he impacted with her. The ground beneath her cracked violently from sheer force as she felt her bereft of her breath. Stumbling backwards, her eyes widened in pain. "W-wha...?" However, before being able to finish her gasps for air, a second, devastating attack struck her.
Like a launched torpedo, she flew off the plateau, tearing through the sky and the surface of the water for several seconds at an ridiculous speed. Eventually, the ocean stopped her flight, engulfing her in soaking, cold freshness. From afar, as the small fox levitated above the endless blue, she beheld her opponent with utmost discomposure. This was inconceivable... and unacceptable. Engulfed in an aureate aura, Cion rapidly dashed back whence she came. Floating above the reptilian lout, she aimed her paw at him to teach him some manners.
"Elemental Discreation!" She bellowed as fierce bolts of fundamental, cosmic forces rained down on Leith's partner. Nobody treated a fine lady churlishly and got away with it unscathed.

Veemon had left himself exposed. Sending a second attack instead of preparing a defense meant Veemon was wide open against Cion's attack. So, instead, he planted his feet and took it like a 'mon! Shutting his eyes and resigning himself to the impact, Veemon took the hit from each one of those beams, kicking up a lot of water and dust, not to mention that his body got burned, struck, blow backwards, frozen soaked, and blinded all at once... and was left standing tall and proud despite it.
Taking a tumble off of that plateau funny enough gave Leith and Veemon a slight advantage: Veemon didn't have to worry about his Tamer's safety and could go all-out. Good. Because watching Leith become the target of an ally - or, former ally - had gotten his blood boiling and made him feel stronger than ever. In fact... "Veemon, dedigivolve to..." Again, Veemon became cloaked in that light and morphed again. Now he wasn't even a foot tall, but that just meant his righteous fury was even more compacted. "...DemiVeemon!"
The simple fact of the matter was that, while this digimon was riled up and out for blood, he was also cute as a button. He knew it, too, and in fact was all too ready to use this to his advantage. That was when he flashed Cion his best puppy-dog eyes, trying to look as adorable as possible. This was, however, a bait; if Cion fell for it, she would calm down and probably leave herself wide open for the digimon's next counter.
Veemon was hit by Cion's Elemental Discreation. Veemon devolved one stage to in-training DemiVeemon. DemiVeemon used Captivating Stare on Cion.
Captivating Stare: This digimon flashes its best puppy-dog eyes, leaving any opposing digimon who can be affected by the sheer adorability completely unwilling to attack this digimon for one post. Cooldown: 2 posts.

The Veemon - he stood strong and tall like before. "Impossible..." Cion gasped under her breath, golden eyes wide similar to her vulpine maw. Both her appearance and mind were enshrouded by shock, unable to believe that a mere Rookie was capable of dealing and taking so much damage. A thousand of his kin were not able of putting a single dent into a Super Mega, so how came that the blue dragon was so inconceivably powerful? Was this perhaps a previously unseen aftereffect of the cursed dark tower? But why would it empower the feel and not weaken the mighty?
Watching her adversary de-digivolve into a DemiVeemon, a sense of absurdity overcame the ascendant. This tiny fella... it was implausible that he possessed the might to rival her, was it? However, did that even matter? His puppy eyes... they were irresistibly adorable. With her maternal instincts kicking in with full force, she rapidly descended to face the little cutiepie. "D'aaaw... I don't wanna fight you, boy. Come here, let's reconcile." She offered the small lad the cuddliest of embraces.
Occasionally, her unadulterated mind returned to her, cause her to briefly frown for the situation at hand was of ultimate bizarreness. "Something... is wrong. Is our equalized power... the black spire's doing?" She more or less asked herself, thoughts often torn apart by the lovable In-Training. Hopefully, he recognized that things were surreal and calmed down for them to fix the problem instead of smacking each other's buttocks. Probably not though.

Cion had taken the bait even more easily and detrimentally than DemiVeemon could have predicted. Not only did Cion freeze in her tracks before loosing another grandiose strike, but she went and picked the little blue digimon up off the ground and drew him into her own body! It was at this point when DemiVeemon seemed to have a slight crisis of conscience. Is it even fair to keep fighting from here? Leith is safe down there, and she wants to make up over it. However, DemiVeemon found he just couldn't get over the excessive force, so he perceived it, used against his only friend in either world. ...No. No one hurts my Tamer.
So DemiVeemon committed to an attack DemiVeemon kept up that guise of a cute and cuddly little bundle of joy as long as he could... until he hopped out of Cion's embrace. On landing, the little digimon left a disproportionately wide and deep crater. Then... he hopped again. This time he aimed straight for Cion, on the landing. "Pop Attack!" This little guy was putting a whole lot of holes in the ground each time his body made an impact in it that seemed much too heavy for a digimon so small, and yet nonetheless it happened.
What a shame; the Arniomon felt very soft. DemiVeemon attacked Cion with Pop Attack.

This lack of mental focus - her thoughts constantly shifting between reality, emotions and confusion - Cion had never experienced anything like it before. Barely able to resist the urge to embrace the little, adorable DemiVeemon in front of her, moments of dread and bewilderment often tore through her thick skull, if only briefly. What in the digital world was happening with her and her supposed allies turned adversaries? Was a black spire truly capable of accomplishing such dastardly effects, even in destruction? If yes, the threat it posed was far greater than anticipated.
Gasping upon feeling the In-Training slip out of her grasp and witnessing the craters his tiny body left behind, it was as if she suddenly snapped and regained control over her mind. The restrained Arniomon, seeing Leith's partner pounce at her, quickly dropped down on her back and tapped the ragged concrete beneath her. "Natural Law Break!" She bellowed anxiously.
Mere inches between her gracile frame and the blue reptile's booty... her powers held him in a radiant singularity for a couple of seconds, preventing most movement. "Phew..." She exhaled a loud sigh of relief. Realizing that this involuntary cease-fire lasted for but a moment, she hastily leapt away and returned to a proper posture. "Stop, boy! Don't you see something surreal is going on?" She asked firmly, almost rhetorically as the absurdity of their clash was obvious to anyone. "We shouldn't fight to begin with." She added, wondering how it came to this.
Oh yeah... the human's insufferable overbearance and puny act of violence. Well, better not inculpate him lest this preposterous battle guaranteedly continued.

Natural Law Break did its job as intended; DemiVeemon's bounce was halted only just before the in-training digimon could turn the super mega fox into a crater herself. The little digimon struggled and flailed against the anti-gravity, sure, but it seemed like nothing he could do could get his tiny body free of the hold. "You just don't like losing, do you?" Was DemiVeemon's response to Cion's most recent plea for truce. "If you didn't wanna fight, you should've-"
"-Jesus, Vee, knock it off!" Leith's voice barely rang out from under the plateau, both because of the height and because he'd been treading water for a while now and, frankly, was starting to get a little sick of it. "You won! She got it! Let it go!" The little blue ball still wasn't able to get his feet down, but he was able to turn his head and look over the edge to find his Tamer, soaking wet and looking very annoyed.
The message didn't sink in right away. Driven on by his own personal fury and the heat of battle, DemiVeemon silently fumed for a couple of seconds before he finally seemed to calm down, at least on the outside. To Cion he hissed, "...Let me go. My friend wants to go home, and I want to let him."
DemiVeemon was immobilized by Cion's Natural Law Break.
Captivating Stare is ready to be used.

Though it was true that Cion loathed the thought of loss outside of enjoyable competitions, that was not her reason to request a hopefully permanent cease-fire. Unfortunately, the young mind of the DemiVeemon was incapable of comprehending the absurd circumstances they found themselves in. He was a child perceiving everything as a personal matter; no to mention he was a fervent protector of his partner. Thankfully, the previously irrational human finally stepped in, although not because he comprehended the situation, too. No... he merely wished to appease the blue dragon.
Bothered by this veil of ignorance towards reality, she irritatedly shook her head and obliged her ex-opponent's wish. "Very well..." With a snap of her fingers, the gravitational distortion ceased immediately. With how much grace the little rascal landed on his feet was for him to decide and manage. Resting her paw against her hip, the silver fennec focused her attention on the remnants of the dark spire and its taint. This chaos... was it truly an aftereffect caused by its destruction? Was it an illusion or a nightmare? She felt awake, but everything was surreal.
At least the bothersome duo was about to leave for home so she could investigate the mystery at hand without further interference.

Very tense o.O
Leith gets bits, but Cion didn't tell me what reward they wanted, so I can't give them anything until they do.
