Caught in the Storm (John, Spire, Leith)

The arcade was a mash up of fake gun-shots, games blaring out noise to vie for a person's attention, Digimon shouting at each other over the noise of the games. tickets streaming out of some of them. Music boomed from the various Guitar Hero and Band Hero games, and from the whole room of DDR machines. This was the reason Justice loved going to the arcade so much as a kid. It was a place where everyone from all ages come to escape the cold, often bleak society back in the Human World.
Justice was watching Vee and Gummy play Halo: Fireteam Raven, an on-rails shooters that can be played up to four people. The two of them had attracted a small crowd in the process. It was one of the harder difficulty levels that can only be unlocked with a full party, according to the whispers from the crowd that he kept overhearing.
"I can't believe they're still on their first credit."
"I think they've been playing for like, almost an hour. How can they sit for so long?"
"I know -- I play for ten minutes and my butt feels like jelly."
The two were approaching the final boss and were low on health. They were getting low on ammo as swarms of Flood started to invade the screen.
"Reload! Reload, DAMMIT!" Gummy shouted at the screen, shaking the gun in frustration. "USE YOUR GRENADES BRO!"
"I only got one left! We're gonna get overrun!"
Justice passed through the crowd, leaving the food that was on their table unattended. Nobody greedy wouldn't dare to touch their food. He paused for a second and looked out of the window: the rain that started earlier when they first arrived begun to pour heavily as the winds picked up throughout the beautiful tropical city. The wind speeds were so fast that he can hear it even inside the arcade. He got out of his trace as soon as he heard the two brothers shouting.
"Ahhh! We're gonna lose our high score!" shouted Veemon. Justice quickly went into the third player seat and enter his tokens into the machine.
"Not yet you're not." Justice stated.
"Specs! We may have a chance after all!"
The three went on to fight the final boss. But outside, fellow Digimon and humans started to take shelter, as the entire costal city was under a hurricane warning; a detail that was oblivious to everyone inside the arcade.

At first the day seemed to be going almost too well. Haunted Threnody had been invited all the way across the world to the major city of Whitewater for a gig, and that alone really made the day of Leith, Flamedramon, Shoutmon, and presumably their two bandmates as well. Too bad they couldn't find out. While it was true the show wasn't cancelled officially due to the storm, well... it was definitely cancelled.
A few late arrivals practically crashed through the arcade's front door, as they were extremely desperate to get out of the storm. Some of their reasons were obvious: the Shoutmon holding it open, of course, was soaking so wet he appeared to have just emerged from the pool. Lucky this was a rare specimen made of organic material instead of metal, meaning the risk of rust was nonexistent. Nonetheless, he was acting pretty frantic as he shouted to a couple of companions, "Come on, come on! Hurry!"
Hobbling in after Shoutmon was a Flamedramon, also completely drenched in rain. There was nothing really special about him appearance-wise except for the cargo he was hauling: a slim-built human dressed in black shoes, jeans, and a Trivium T-shirt who was clinging to the armored lizard's body with both arms for dear life. "Shh, it's OK! I gotcha! We're inside," was how Flamedramon tried to console the human leaning on him. From the way the pair walked, it at first appeared Flamedramon was supporting a human who couldn't walk, though thick, very long brown hair that covered their face made it hard to determine the human's gender at first.
By the time the pair had stumbled by the Halo game machine, it seemed the human couldn't go any farther. They dropped right beside the machine and sat on the floor with their back against it, not in the gamers' way but definitely in their field of view. Flamedramon helped the human down and knelt in front of him himself, affectionately sliding their hair out of their face to reveal it was actually a boy behind that long hair, or rather a man at age 19. It also became clear that the young man's face was wet with more than just rain; as he gasped and grimaced whimpered, he was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Hey, hey, sorry, guys!" was Shoutmon's hasty apology to the Gumdramon and Veemon, "Our friend doesn't do storms great."
"Leith, Leith, look at me. We're inside, OK? By the look and sounds Leith made, this was not helpful information. Flamedramon stayed down on his knees as he embraced his Tamer in a tight hug, but Leith continued his panicking. He seemed to be trying to form words, but he couldn't manage to simultaneously breathe correctly and use his voice at the same time. He wasn't injured, then, but he sure was terrified.

"Come on... come on, I can do this! I can DO THIS!" Johan was excitedly saying as he mashed away buttons on a game console inside of the arcade. It was a platformer game starring an Armadillomon where you ran forward before time ran out to get to the goal, all the meanwhile making amazing jumps with stellar platforming along the way. Johan was having a blast with this arcade game!
Dokamon, on the other hand, was not. "Johan, this game is a waste of time. You told me we were going to get those tasty milkshakes on the beach..." For a moment, Dokamon looked off somewhere else as he slightly drooled over the thought of a good milkshake. He shook his head and got back to the point. "Besides, that game isn't productive at all."
"You don't have to do productive things all the time, Doka. Sometimes it's fun to just kick back and-" Right then and there, Johan's game character fell into a bottomless pit and he lost his last life. "Aw damn, I lost..." Before Johan could say anything else, three beings barged into the arcade, with all three of them seeming wet. One of them was a human who looked completely shut down, and the other two were Digimon: one Shoutmon (different-looking than Adrian's) and one Flamedramon, who was carrying the human.
"What's going on out there?" Johan asked the Digimon. "Why are you all soaking wet?"
"EVERYONE GET INSIDE," Another voice yelled as the door slammed open and multiple in-training and rookie Digimon flooded into the arcade. The last people of that group to enter were Adrian Boriker and Shoutmon, who now looked far different than he used to.
"Adrian? Shoutmon?" Dokamon asked, very confused at this point. "What is going on?"
"A storm is coming," Shoutmon said grimly. Johan swore his voice was different now. "A really big one."

Owen and Bezil had ended up in Whitewater for reasons simply being personal leisure, but, it turned out to be much more than that.
The Gaomon father and Gumdramon son had travelled here with the intention of a small holiday from their duties in Rosewood. They were both proud of how the town was and how it grew in their time living there, but, after a couple of months, both of them agreed that it'd be nice to have just a little break. And why not spend that break to the South of the digital world where it was still warm? Things were starting to cool down elsewhere, so, a little bit of tropical heat before winter set in sounded like such a good idea at the time.
Yes, they had a fun afternoon as they arrived in the city, perusing tourist stores for interesting things to bring back, but, all that was cut short once an alert sounded on Owen's tamernet. He pulled it out and heard with horror that there was in fact a hurricane warning made for Whitewater this very day.
"Oh no..." he breathed, halting in the Whitewater shopping mall for a moment as he stopped to think.
"Dad, what's wrong?" Bezil asked, curiously, the Gumdramon seeming worried at his expresison. He looked at the warning then tilted his head. "What's a hurricane?" he asked.
"It's basically a massive storm, mate" Owen explained. "Huge amounts of wind and rain... risk of surges from the sea too. And this whole city's been put to warning".
"Oh... damn... well, we have to stay and help everyone right?" Bezil asked. Owen was surprised at this sentence at first, but smiled as he realized that his son's main concern seemed to be making sure everyone else would be okay.
"Guess we do then" the Gaomon answered. "Well... getting a bit late, but, let's do what we can before it's too late eh, son?"
"You can do it, dad!" Bezil cheered, sensing what was coming. And so, Owen focused inward as hard as he could, then exerted all his energy into digivolving. Not to Gaogamon. Not to MachGaogamon. But his Mega form. MirageGaogamon.
Knowing he only had a limited time, he flashed above the skies of Whitewater, Bezil riding on his back. Owen repeated his words as best he could "Take shelter! Hurricane! Do NOT stay outside! Move! Right now!"
He could only keep this up for a few minutes before the winds became too exhausting to fight against. Hoping he had saved as much other digimon as possible, Owen landed hard in the middle of the city. There, the MirageGaogamon de-digivolved back to Gaomon. And to Bezil's horror, he seemed too weak to walk here. But the Gumdramon wasn't weakened yet.
"Come on... dad!" he growled, using all his strength to give his father support. "There! That building there!" he pointed to what appeared to be an arcade of some sort. "Digimon seem to be gathering here, let's join them!"
"Bezil... mate... I..." Owen wanted to tell him to relax and stop, that he had control of this situation, but, the reality was, he didn't. Bezil glanced up at him. Seeing those yellow eyes, Owen did little more than smile back. "N-nevermind. You got this, son" he said, then the two also entered the arcade... and saw a whole bunch of others that he recognized.
Leith, Veemon, Shoutmon, Adrian, Shoutmon, Johan, Dokamon... and others he didn't yet recognize.
"Heh, wow, looks like a whole bunch of us got caught up here, huh?" Bezil remarked, grinning. "Well, heya, guess we're all riding out this hurricane together eh?"
Owen could just wave at everyone weakly. He needed more time to catch his breath. Both he and Bezil were soaked through, their fur sodden and dripping with a mix of rainwater and sea spray. But they were alive and well for the moment.

"It's nice here, they said. You're gonna enjoy it here, they said. THE WEATHER IS LOVELY HERE, THEY SAID." John screamed the last part of his rent, not really because of anger, but because he could hardly hear himself over the howling wind. The wind wasn't the worst, but the rain was, within a second they were soaked and now they tried to find a shelter where they could stay. They had come here for a short vacation, but well, seems like that plan was now getting washed away.
Finally, an Arcade was still open, if they were lucky it may even still have energy and they could play some games while waiting out the storm. They stormed inside, John having to almost throw Shepard inside, because the smaller dragon-soldier was almost getting blown away by the worsening storm.
Shepard, taking the situation much more lightly than his partner, sang "I believe I can fly!" as he literally flew inside the Arcade, landing face first in the entrance hall. John followed suite and once they were inside, he took a deep breath and, soaked as he was, collapsed on one of their chairs. There were several other patreons in the arcade, several other Tamers and their Partner Digimon, Shoutmons, Veemon, Dokamon. Quite a crowd off people, John had to admit, but Shepard was already on his way to great the fellow shelter seekers. "Hi guys, I'm Shepard and thats my partner John. Are you guys all seeking shelter from the storm here." John only mustered a weak "Hi" to his partners greetings, for the moment the exhausted Tamer would leave the socialising to his partner.

All three of them turned around to see two Digimon and what appeared to be their tamer sitting right behind the arcade machine. Their tamer seemed to be in the zenith of what appeared to be a mental breakdown. The three were distracted by the commotion long enough that the characters they were playing in the game were killed, ushering a game over screen.
"Aw man." moaned Gummy, putting the fake gun back to its resting position. The top appendages on his head lowered in sadness. "And just when we were about to reach the top score." Vee sighed, watching the 'continue' screen count down to zero. He guess Justice didn't had any tokens left.
"Well don't worry, we can try again next time. Right Justice?" Vee was only met with Justice's back as he watched the two Digimon trying to comfort their tamer. The Shoutmon reassured them that their friend doesn't get along with storms all that well. Justice couldn't help but to split away from that situation as fast as he can. He couldn't deal with people, especially someone who looked around his age, crying like a baby. He viewed it as a weakness for a man to cry. If a little storm was gonna put this dude into tears, he can only pray to see how he'll react to an even worse situation.
"C'mon you two, lets go eat before our food gets cold." he said. Vee and Gummy complied and went off to their table to eat. Vee stopped for a brief second in front of the Shoutmon.
"Hey, sorry whatever happened to your friend, but I hope he gets better," he reassured to him, quickly sprinting off to where Justice and his little brother had gone to. He turned around back at the dude, who was still sobbing. He tugged at Justice's pants to get his attention. "Don't ya think we should cheer that dude up?"
"Nope," Justice responded in a stern manner. "That has nothing to do with us." Gummy shook his head in agreement with him.
"Besides, that crybaby has his two other Digimon to cheer him up," he huffed. "Whether he gets better or not is none of our business."
Vee only gave a concerned look at the two. He considered going back to help cheer up the guy, but stopped. "You know what, nevermind. Forget I asked that."
The three sat in a large booth with plush red leather sofas and a round table. The pizza and fries that they left on the table awhile ago were still warm as stream was still coming from the food. Before they could dine, the door slammed open as numerous Digimon flooded into the arcade, soaking wet. From the looks of it, the storm was getting worse as the winds began to howl throughout the building. The last people entering were two familiar faces: Adrian and his Shoutmon.
"Well, this day just went from decent to worse." Justice said as he took a sip from his drink.

Flamedramon nodded in acknowledgement at the one other digimon who even bothered to acknowledge his poor boy's suffering. Mercifully, neither he nor Flamedramon heard anything because Leith was too busy covering his ears and trying to tune out the entire rest of reality, and Flamedramon was struggling with the compromise between alleviating Leith's panic and allowing that socially unacceptable behavior to continue. The kind blue drake knew exactly what to do, but the problem was he couldn't actually do it himself. All he could do was give Leith the tools to do it. "Leith, why don't you put on some music?" he suggested as gently as he could while still making himself heard over a thunderclap.
The young man was not immediately responsive. It almost looked like he didn't hear Flamedramon, though he was aware enough to try and quiet down and suffer in silence now that he was in public view. That didn't stop his sobbing, though. Since Flamedramon couldn't himself make Leith's digivice do anything himself, the best he could do was loosen the black and blue symbol of their shared bond and from its wrist cradle and use his unarmored hands to place it in Leith's hands. Still, that meant Leith could and did himself activate the radio function, which made a pair of wireless headphones materialize from apparently nothing around Leith's head.
Apparently his idea of calming music was blasting metalcore at an absurd volume.
This also didn't immediately stop his sobbing, but it was the most surefire thing to work given a little time. The young man took off his glasses and held them in one hand so he could bury his face in one arm.
Shoutmon, however, was not too busy helping the poor kid for the sole reason that there was nothing really left for him to do. That left him free to look and listen around, and the closest thing he heard was something that immediately infuriated him. "You got a fuckin' problem, bro?" Shoutmon wandered straight up to the Gumdramon and flicked him on the forehead, the only part he could conveniently reach given the height distance. "Call my friend a crybaby again. Let's see who's cryin' after that! Last time I met a little pipsqueak like you, he showed a little respect and was... standing right over there." The sight of a second Gumdramon made the unusual Shoutmon balk and momentarily forget his impromptu vendetta. "Hey, Bezil, that you, kid?" he called from across the arcade.

"Wait, there's a hurricane outside? Right now?" Johan asked, looking out the window in pure shock. It was sunny when he and Dokamon came to the Digital World today. How could it have gotten so bad outside so quick?! And the storm was already here!
"That's what I said, wasn't it?" Shoutmon asked rather rudely. "Do I need to scream it into your ear or somethin'?"
"No no, that's... that's fine, I got it. You feeling alright, Shoutmon? You seem... different."
"No."
Before more words could be said, four more beings got into the arcade for shelter. Two of them were good friends of Adrian's and Johan's, Owen and his son Bezil. The former of which looked so weak that both Adrian and Johan ran over to go help him in any way. "He must've just Digivolved to Mega. He's going to be pretty weak for a bit. I think I have some DigiNoir if you need it Owen," Adrian was saying as he pulled out a can of DigiNoir from his backpack.
The other two people that came in were people that neither Johan nor Adrian had met before. One of them was a human, and the other was a Commandramon that tried to fly into the arcade, yet landed right on his face. Shoutmon and Dokamon looked at the joker with straight faces as he got up and introduced himself and his partner.
Taking a moment to look away from the craziness, Dokamon was surprised at how many humans and Digimon were taking shelter inside of this very arcade. Most of them were Digimon, but there were still a fair amount of humans in the building as well. The blue robotic Digimon looked outside as the storm got worse, seeing a Botamon fly across the street due to the strong winds.
I guess I can kiss those milkshakes goodbye... Dokamon sadly thought.

Bezil gasped as a Commandramon suddenly landed in the arcade next to him. He was soon followed by a human, so that seemed to match out with him.
"Ah, yep, that's pretty much the situation here" the Gumdramon said, nodding. Given that Owen was a little too exhausted to speak, Bezil took it upon himself to go through the formalities. "I'm Bezil, and this is my dad, Owen. Nice to meet ya" he'd offer to shake paws here.
Once that was done, Bezil and Owen would enter the main area of the arcade. Some of those present seemed to be unaware of the hurricane outside. Well... all they could hope for here was that this building was strong enough to take whatever it was that this storm had in store for them. Also Bezil realized acutely that Owen was unable to properly socialize here, leaving that to him. Well, the Gumdramon hoped he'd be up to the task of keeping friendly with everyone.
For a moment, Bezil thought he had seen another Gumdramon, but this thought was distracted when he saw others that he recognized here. At the other side of the room, he saw Shoutmon, the one from Rosewood and immediately smiled, helping his dad walk over toward them.
"G'day there!" he said, waving, then his smile faded as he saw how Leith was handling this. "Oh... geez, are you guys alright?" he asked, halting. He sensed something was not all well here.
As it happened, Adrian and Johan rushed over to help them. Owen smiled up at Adrian.
"Heh, some diginoir would be great thanks" the Gaomon replied. "But... is this place strong enough to stay up in a hurricane?"
"Well, no way for us to know that dad" Bezil said, patting Owen's back. "But, hurricanes happen, and hopefully they built Whitewater well enough to stand up to it. Besides, if it doesn't, we'll help out".
Owen looked at his son with admiration. Those were fine words there. "Alrighty, mate, hopefully that's the case". He then turned to those present. He recognized Leith, Veemon, Shoutmon, Adrian, his Shoutmon, Johan and Dokamon, but few others. "So, uh, everyone holding up okay?" he asked, hoping he had been just imagining tension from before.

For the moment, John didn't want to really socialize, he needed to catch some breath and actually wanted to observe the situation. Worst case scenario would be, that they'd be stuck here for several days, until the weather improved and they could leave. It seemed, like there would be some conflicts between several of the people, so he wanted to stay out of the problems for the moment. Shepard however, in his usual way, had no intention of keeping a low profile for the moment. He happily grabbed Bezil hand and shock it happily, before doing that with Bezil entire team, yes he was a strange digimon. There were alot of Shoutmons and Gumdramons here, neither John or Shepard had ever seen this many of these normally rare digimon. "Hey everybody, no need to fight." Shepard now tried to stop the people from fighting, they knew Justice and his partners from an earlier mission, but the others were complete strangers to them. Still, Commandramon hoped to stop the fighting before it actually happend. "We should help this fella, so he feels better soon."

A hot crimson rage filled Gummy's heart. He got up to his feet and stalked up to the Shoutmon, meeting his glare with his. As the red dragon rage at him, he internally debated on whether or not to repeat what he had said. Because the way he saw things, he was telling it how it is regardless of how mean the comment was, and he know that Justice felt the same way. The Shoutmon quickly derailed the subject and turned his attention to someone else in the arcade. To Gummy; he was wide open.
Justice and Vee knew what this meant. They both knew especially that Gummy has an anger problem, and situation was not helping They both quickly got up and hold Gummy back as he resist the urge to bash the Digimon's head in with his tail.
"Hey, hey, hey just calm down." Justice whispered, "Just deep breathes my dude."
"Yeah," Vee replied as he grabbed on to his brother's shoulders. "Looking at that Shoutmon and Flamedramon , I can sense that they're way beyond our league. You don't want to do this."
"I mean, what will you actually achieve if you fight him? And I don't think these people here want to see the outcome of that"
"That kid over there doesn't need more emotional turmoil than he already is in right now. Just let it go bro."
Flames started to appear from Gummy's tail. But instead of unleashing his Fire Vortex at the Shoutmon, he paused, and thought for a moment to predict the outcome if he went with it. He breathe slowly, as if willing his anger to subside, which it did very gradually. The flames around his tail dwindled out in response. "Fine, but I can't promise you the next time he says something, he's gonna get introduce to the ground. And trust me; his relationship will be intimate."

Poor Flamedramon was in the worst position of all of them because he couldn't be in two places at once. That meant once the rude Gumdramon had stood down and Shoutmon started raising a fist to sucker punch him anyway, the best he could do was shout, "Leave it, Shoutmon!" Lucky for everyone involved, getting caught was not a part of the red drake's plan, so when called on the low move he lowered his hand and stepped away in a huff. To the Commandramon, he gave a relieved, "Thank you."
"They're goddamn right I'm beyond their league..."
Well that chaos was dying down, but for the whole environment that was but a drop in the bucket. There was still a tempest raging outside and innumerable sounds of shouting, shooting, whizzing, beeping, and ringing inside with all the games being played. That was why the curled up human took so long to barely peer up just to take stock of his surroundings. He still knew what he was doing, after all. It was just about his worst nightmare, then, to discover there was someone he knew who could see him whimpering like a kitten. Hoping to shape up, then, he turned away from Owen and Bezil to wipe his face dry on his sleeve, lower his headphones around his neck, pause the music, wipe his glasses clean, put them back on, and try futilely to straighten his hair disheveled by rain and wind all as fast as he could. "H-hey, guys!" he called toward the two furry digimon, trying to pretend he wasn't still shaking.

Bezil smiled as he shook the Commandramon's paw. His dad has taught him that it was always polite to greet a new acquaintance like this, to always present your right paw for a friendly gesture. Apparently it was a tradition from humans - to prove that they had no weapon in their hand at first contact. Bezil liked knowing things like that. Even though with digimon it was less practical, given that the Gumdramon's main weapon was his tail, well, he had no intention of using it in here.
Owen shook Shepard's paw too, the Gaomon not wearing his boxing gloves currently, making it easier. He and Bezil looked with concern at the developing hostilities. In fact Bezil was quite prepared to jump in front of Shoutmon and defend him if the need arose. After all, fire bothered him less than it did with other digimon. But thankfully it didn't come to that.
Following that event, Owen and Bezil proceeded over to Leith, to gently ask if he was holding up okay. He seemed to be trembling. The two digimon thought he was more nervous about the hurricane than the situation with so many others in the arcade. Owen needed a little rest here, so the Gaomon took a seat near Leith, but not directly adjacent. "Are you worried about the weather, Leith?" Owen asked gently. "I admit I'm a bit nervous too, but, big buildings like this should hold up okay, at least I think. I admit I've never been in a hurricane myself. But hopefully we'll all get through this in one piece".
Bezil meanwhile was more curious about the situation between Shoutmon and the other Gumdramon. Well, supposing their conflict was over for now, Bezil decided he might try and settle things down by talking to them. "So, hey, Shoutmon. Do you know this guy?" he asked. As curious as he was, he hoped there was no bad blood between them. If there was though, he hoped he could find out the full story.

John had never been in such a hurricane either. Back in England once or twice he had seen rivers flooding their surroundings, but storms like this he had never seen before. Shepard had greeted some of the people and John now finally stood up again and joined the other people. He wanted to stay out of any conflict, but his interest had still been sparked. "What do you think partner, wanna see if there is still something to eat we can get?" John asked his partner, who happily said yes and started to wag his tail, something had picked up from watching dogs on TV. "Come on people, no matter if you like each other or not. Judging by the weather outside we'll be stuck in here for some time. So lets calm down and maybe get something to eat. Or look if there is anything we need to barricade." John to everybody who listend, hoping that this situation could be improved. Shepard at least happily saluted his partner and happily waggled behind his partner.

(The howling wind outside underscores the unnatural rowdiness of the arcade, heightening the tension between the patrons as they continue what they're doing while keeping a close eye outside. Lightning split apart the clouds, jagged bolts heading toward the beach. The storm was moving in fast--the lightning less than a few miles from here. The thunder afterward was so loud, it knock some patrons to their feet. Then all of a sudden, the lights throughout the arcade went out; the power was gone. The once noisy video gaming machines that were littered with light were now replaced with the heavy rain splattering against the windows. Down the street from the arcade, things like signs, boards, and pieces of blue-leaved palm trees were being blown away; the winds were growing stronger, water crashing to the shore, the hurricane angrier with each moment. It was only a matter of a few hours until Whitewater City passes into the eyewall, the zenith part of the hurricane.)
