Blackened Sky [Carlo&Dio/Eris]

The storm came on fast. Thunder heralding it's approach like the rolling roar of a thousand horses hooves stampeding in a black wave across the sky. The wind cutting through the air harsh and cold as a grey cast overtook the land and air before the dark clouds rolled in. Casting the entire forest in silence and unnatural dusk before with a mighty crack the heavens themselves seemed to open up with a downpour. Hopelessly blurring and obscuring the Eastern Timberlands with it's deluge and only leaving snatches of stark images burned into the residents eyelids with each frightening flash of searing electric laden light. Those that still dared to take to the skies would find the raindrops mixed with hail, ice forming over their wings as they fought to gain altitude and ascend above the storm. The temperature plummeting as the land was washed with freezing rain as rivers overran their banks and trees began to groan and shift, those with weaker roots giving in to the high winds.
Amidst the sound a fury though it was not merely digimon that feared destruction as lightning struck bright and close. Searing the side of what had once appeared to be rock, but was in fact carved stone clearing away centuries old ivy to reveal a stone door shattered from the blast leading into the darkness and out of the storm. Unseen however, was the tiny figure fearful and cold that scampered into the ready made shelter.

To say the ensuing storm had taken the duo of a man and digimon by surprise would be a huge understatement. They were in the middle of the wilderness, far away from any recognizable landmark and even from the safety of their own vehicle. They would have been woefully underprepared in case of a mild drizzle, and they were certainly in no shape to brave a storm of this magnitude.
If there was anything that could be said in defense of Dio however, he was obviously doing his best, having digivolved into the familiar ultimate form of NeoDevimon as soon as he saw the first droplets fall, and taking flight as soon as the winds began changing, clutching the human close to his chest in an attempt to protect him from the elements. But by then it was already too late to escape.
Even the Dark Lord was finding difficulties in traversing the suddenly unforgiving weather, wings and body being mercilessly bombarded by chunks of solid ice, the cold rain and strong winds never letting up and keeping the demonic figure from rising more than a couple meters above the tree tops.
"Dio! Get us down, now!" The man kept on yelling, knowing this sort of strain would only hurt his partner in the long run. If only they could land and look for a shelter, things would be much easier. It was then when the first lightnings began illuminating the sky. But before Carlos could even warn his stubborn partner, a stray volt struck the ground, the glowing arc missing the duo for little more than a couple meters. The result was a similar one regardless: the demon, startled and stunned by the sudden explosion of energy found his focus breaking for but a second, and that was enough to send him plummeting downwards to the ground.
Dio twisted his body around in such a way so that he would absorb most of the impact instead of Carlos, and they both soon enough landed on the muddy ground with a pained grunt. It was a rough landing for sure, but it beated being shot down by a stray volt of lightning. With great difficulty they managed to get back up on their feet, and without another word they were now making a beeline into what looked like a hole carved into a rocky surface. A moutain or a hill, perhaps? It didn't matter what it was, all that they cared was for a dry shelter, and running into the pitch black maw of darkness in the stone entrance was a preferable idea to spending another second under the storm.
Panting and shivering, the duo stood quietly in the darkness of what they assumed was a mere cave in the woods. Carlos was the first to break the silence. "Are you ok, Dio?" He asked, glancing at the demon.
"Nothing broken...yourself?" The NeoDevimon said in his usual monotone voice, to which Carlos replied with a small eyeroll, the gesture probably being well hidden from his partner by the darkness surrounding them.
"Just peachy." With that he turned around, eyes peering into the deep, seemingly all enconpasing darkness of their shelter. "Well...this cave way bigger than what I expected."

The cave whether illuminated by the light of a device or by lightning would be revealed to be not a cave at all. The walls being made of smooth carved stones and the floor likewise covered in flagstones. Thick dust seemed to cling to nearly every surface and apart from where they stood near the entrance the air within smelled distinctly stale. Likely decades old cobwebs ripping and tearing in the now sudden wind to which the tunnel was exposed as lightning stuck once again nearby.
The illumination lighting up a pair of eyes that reflected in a distinctly inhuman way deeper into the darkness. The sudden crash of thunder not quite enough to stifle the sound of claws on stone as something shifted further in behind them. A threat perhaps? Maybe a long sealed monster or new found enemy or...
Whatever it was sneezed the sound sharp and only dissolving into more sneezes as the action disturbed the dust around their unexpected guest sending them into a fit of sniffles, sneezes, and coughs.

Just as another stray lightning illuminated the inside of the cave did the man realize their shelter was anything but a cave. There were no natural rock formations or oddly shaped walls, everything was clearly smoothly carved, clearly by digimon hands. What could this place be for however, was completely lost on the duo. His curiosity getting the better of him, Carlos extracted his digivice from a pocket, and with a loud press of a button the screen shined brightly, creating a small beam of light to work as a sort of flashlight.
His exploration was cut short, as a group of sounds echoed along the stone walls. First the faint, but noticeable sound of something small scraping against the stone behind them, followed by something that sounded like a...sneeze? Whatever it was, it certainly came from inside the "cave", and was enough of a startle to make the man almost drop his digivice. Dio was less affected by this, but he was already standing protectively in front of the man, putting himself between him and the direction the sound seemed to come from.
Waving his digivice around, Carlos moved the beam of light all over the inside of the cave, trying to find the source of the sounds.
"Hey...whoever you are, come on out. We can hear you." He said, biting his lip but otherwise managing to mask the obvious fright he was experiencing.

The light of Carlo's digivice fell across a small figure in the darkness no taller then a foot in a half to two feet. The dust, dirt, and cobwebs clinging to the little creature making it difficult at first to identify as it blinked big watering blue eyes and tried to answer only to sneeze once more. Sneezing so hard in fact that the tiny Digimon ended up falling backwards onto her tail as she tried desperately to swipe at her face her little wing like ears flapping. The familiar shape of which eventually gave away the dirty creatures species to be that of a small, very filthy, damp, and obviously distressed Gigimon.
"Don't~" The little in-training gasped out in a panic at the sudden sight of a human and a Neodevimon looming over her only to convulse with another series of sneezes.
"Don't hurt~" Another sneeze, the little creature nearly wheezing in a combination of fear and dust by now, "Me." She finally finished in a tiny voice tears cutting streaks down her dirty cheeks as she tried to clean her face.

Nothing could have prepared Carlos for when his eyes met those smaller eyes glowing in the dark. It didn't took long for the dark shape to become clearer under the light of his digivice, revealing the digimon to be but a small red in training digimon. Between their tiny sneezing, their watery blue eyes and equally small voice the man not only found that any emotion remotely resembling fear left his body, but he found himself completely disarmed by the small creature's look.
To put it in layman terms, the little Gigimon was quite frankly really freaking adorable.
"Oh my god." He whispered, eyes wide as plates. They had been this close to making a huge mistake. And realizing said mistake, the man quickly bending down and knelt on the ground, placing the digivice down in the floor and extending one open hand to the small red bean of a digimon in front of them.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" He stammered, still taken aback by the shock of finding the small in training in such a place, but still tried his best to sound reassuring. "Don't worry little one, we won't hurt you."
She was clearly distressed, and considering what the duo had just gone through outside it was hard to blame her for feeling that way. But at least Carlos had a small idea of what they could do to make her feel a bit more safe. "Dio, can you please de-evolve a bit?" He said, turning his head to the looming demon above him. Dio looked down at him silently for a bit, blinking once before finally speaking up.
"But...Carlos-"
"Please...you'll scare her off otherwise." The man cut him off, but he did not sound demanding in the slightest, instead practically begging the demon to follow along. The demon sighed but complied, a bright and gentle light enveloping his body, leaving behind a far, far less tall digimon standing in front of the man.
"Tsk, it's not like I was the one about to make her cry." The purple imp said rather annoyed and cross armed, before glancing at the small bean, as if waiting to see what she would do now.

The little Digimon's shaking seemed to abate somewhat along with her sneezing as Dio de-evolved and the little Gigimon managed to rub/smear some of the dirt and dust off of her face. She still shivered with evident cold and strung out nerves regarding them with wide wary eyes, but slowly. Ever so slowly she inched forward until she was just barely out of reach of Carlos. Instead the tiny bean leaned in to the point of straining as she sniffed the very tips of the Tamer's fingers.
Before letting out a yelp and falling on her face as another bright flash of light lit up the tunnel nearly deafening thunder crashing down around them and sending the In-training digimon scrambling to her feet and launching forward into Carlos's chest. Where she tried to burrow her face and small body against him likely getting his shirt filthy in the process in her attempt to escape the storm.
"Why is the sky so angry?" The little Gigimon whimpered her ears flat against her head in fear.

Much to his surprise, the in training didn't scamper away from him, but actually began to slowly inch closer to his hand, carefully sniffing out his fingertips like a scared mouse. Before the man could do anything to make her feel less threatened however, another bright flash illuminated the cave, followed with an equally intense booming, causing the small lizard like mon to jump right at Carlos. Not with any ill intent it seemed, but rather out of fear of the storm outside.
The man flinched a bit in surprise, but didn't do anything for a moment, merely standing perfectly still as the gigimon seemingly tried to hide into his t-shirt, not even noticing (or caring) that she was getting mud all over said shirt...well, even more mud than what was already covering him after the recent fall, at least. "H-hey! Easy now! We're safe here, you don't have to be scared anymore." He softly said, trying to reassure the small red bean of a digimon, gently patting her scaly head.
"What are you doing all alone here anyways? Where are your parents?" Dio then questioned, clearly annoyed that Carlos was already taking a liking to the other digimon. For someone that took pride in being the "most mature" of the two, he sure had a rather telling weakness for small, adorable looking things.
That said the man couldn't help but be rather amused by the creature's innocent reasoning as to what was going on outside. The sky being angry? That was a new one!
"Hm? It's a storm, we just have to wait it out here for a while, I'm sure it will clear up soon enough." He chuckled, his brown eyes looking down, meeting the Gigimon's with a reassuring and warm smile. "What's your name, little gal? I'm Carlos, and my friend there is named Dio."
"Charmed." The imp replied as he sat down crosslegged next to the two, staring at the Gigimon with...curiosity? Distrust? It was hard to tell from his expression, really...

The little Gigimon sniffled a little, but seemed to slowly relax within the relative safety of Carlos's shirt and jacket. Even leaning her tiny head into his hand as he pet her though she still trembled minutely from a combination of cold and fear. "I was traveling with...I got separated from my friend." She stammered out her little flag like ears still laid flat against her head as she eyed the Impmon with a mix of curiosity and wariness. Clearly somewhat unsure of the gruff, now bit smaller, digimon.
"He was helping me find my way home, but then the sky got angry and I'd only ever seen black clouds from above and it got really really dark." The little Gigimon explained with another sniffle as she rubbed at her face.
"Then I got scared and ran in here." She spoke before adding in a soft voice a moment later, "My name is Eris." She murmured introducing herself before leaning out of Carlos's shirt a little. Her tiny nose twitching as she sniffed at Dio some of her initial terror ebbing away.
"Are you a bad guy?" Eris questioned curiosity apparently winning out over fear.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Eris." Carlos greeted back as he kept patting the small digimon, who seemed to be getting comfortable hiding under the man's shirt and jacket. Probably because it was considerably warmer than the damp stone outside.
"Aw, and who's this friend you lost? Maybe we could help you find them later." He then asked, feeling sympathetic for the kid's plight. Dio was ready to interject and call out Carlos for wanting to help out yet another stranger in need, until Eris asked the little impish digimon a question of her own.
"Huh??" Was all he could initially muster, looking completely perplexed and at a loss. He was taken aback by both the question itself and the fact Eris was addressing him out of nowhere. "I...that's...well..." He stammered, crossing his arms as he huffed. He seemed rather conflicted about being put on the spotlight like that!
The gall of that kid, he wasn't a bad guy! Right? Sure he did call himself a Dark Lord and had been a Demon Lord in a past life but...he didn't really have any dark motivations of devious schemes planned out for the day he regained his power. In fact he...didn't really have a plan for when that would happen. If it would ever happen at all. The imp fell silent, deep in thought for a solid minute, until with a determined glare he looked back at Eris, before replying.
"Hmph. I can assure you I am not a mere bad guy. While the Dark Lord Dio may be interested in power, he has no intentions of using said power for anything but a noble cause. I might not know what that cause is, though."
Carlos could only nod approvingly, while adding, "Don't worry, he might talk about being a "dark lord" a lot but he's a good guy. He saved my life more times than I can count."
"So where's your home, Eris?" The impmon then asked, both trying to avoid another difficult question, and out of genuine curiosity. There was something about this bean that had picked his interest, but he wouldn't be quite sure why unless he asked some questions. It's not like they had anything better to do.

"His name is Alpha. He's a silver Dorumon. He found me when I fell asleep in a crate and ended up in Rustport. It's nice to meet you both as well!" The little Gigimon chirped beaming up at Carlos guilelessly one eye closed as she low happy thrum built up in her throat at his petting. Though she considered Dio with some confusion.
"So you're just a...scary looking good guy then?" She questioned with a tilt of her head her ears slowly perking back up under Carlos's ministrations. The wariness she'd had of the Impmon giving way fully as Eris observed him with open curiosity in her big blue eyes, one of her wing like ears twitching lightly. Only to pause thoughtfully the pair able to practically see the gears turning in the little In-Training Digimon's head.
"Is that why you're grumpy? Cause everyone's scared of you and run away before you can tell them you're a good guy?" Eris inquired softly with a concerned frown sympathy written plain across her face. No wonder Dio was so upset! If people just screamed at her and ran away before she could talk to them Eris would be upset to.
"Oh!" She added perking up as she recalled his question. "I live on this big floating island call ICY Fate! It's part of the Emp-ear-E-N Skies." Eris explained carefully sounding out the name as best she could.

"Well I'm sure Alpha must be just fine, we can help you find them later if you want." Carlos offered the small red lizard with another smile, ignoring the glare the impmon was giving him, instead focusing more on softly scratching the adorable in training behind her wing like ears.
After the initial distrust had passed, it seemed Eris was feeling a lot more comfortable around the duoe rolled his eyes a bit at her question, though not so much in annoyance as in mild amusement.
"I prefer the term imposing, or even threatening. But sure, a scary looking good guy works." He shrugged, puffing out his chest ever so slightly as if that would help his case any (it didn't). His facade of bravado didn't last long, as Eris shot yet another question out of left field.
"...what?" Once again he was stumpted, and much like Eris a moment ago one could almost see the gears in Dio's head turning as he tried to either come up with a clever answer, or try to understand the logic behind the gigimon's train of thought. "That...might be the case if anyone would ver run away from me I guess?"
A smiling Carlos could brely hold back his laughter, he was really entertained by this unintentional clash of minds. He soon interjected with a laugh, "Nah, being grumpy is just his default mood."
"Tch." Dio bit his lip, looking away seemingly more annoyed at Carlos' teasing than Eris' odd questions. "I'm more upset about this blasted storm making us all hide under a rock like rats."
After hearing Eris talking about her home however, both Carlos and Dio exchanged a quick, rather awkward glance. They knew the place Eris came from all too well.
"The Empyrean Skies?" The imp repeated aloud, a slight hint of disgust in his tone. That was rather unfortunate really, Dio had a rather important bias torwards the Empyrean Skies and the general disdain their inhabitants had not only towards anyone that came from below, but a special type of scorn reserved only for the likes of Dio, both virus type digimon and Dark Area exhiles much like he was.
Which made it rather odd for a Gigimon to come from there. Weren't Gigimons supposed to be Virus type? The two of them knew this well since they had experienced such treatment first hand, but then again who knew, maybe it was just a strictly Luminas thing to do.
"Sounds like a nice place. How long have you been away from home?" Carlos quickly questioned, trying to move away from the mildly uncomfortable subject that was Luminas and all that surrounded it.

"Maybe he doesn't get enough head scritchies? It's really hard to be grumpy while getting head scritchies." Eris pointed out her low happy thrumming increasing as she half rolled in Carlos's grip showing of the creamy pale scales of her belly, her little tail twitching every so often happily as she chirped up at him. Only to tilt her head back and look at Dio upside down, waving her little front legs at him as she beamed.
Her smile only faltering slightly at his tone, but Carlos's question was quick to distract her. Besides maybe they just didn't know much about her home and once they did they'd like it and want to see it just as much as she did!
"It's really nice! Our island is one of the moving ones called ICY Fate! It has a fort and everything! My Daddy works there with my Uncle God-Daddy Logane as a knight and a smith!" Eris explained waving her little limbs as she tried to paint a picture in the air of her home with her flailing and her words.
"But my Daddy is super strong and really good at what he does so Luminas hires him a lot to make things for them! Or I go there with my cousin Leo! He's this super cool TigerVespamon and used to work for them before he came home. I think he was on a newspaper cover once! He's really nice though. He lets me ride on his shoulder a bunch and taught me how to play Humans & Digimon!" Eris explained rambling on in her excitement only to slowly fall silent. Her little ears drooping a bit or well mostly just hanging limp given she'd rolled onto her back as a sad contemplative look settled upon her little face.
"I miss them a lot..."

It was at moments like this that Carlos wished his cellphone would work while in the Digital World: the little gigimon was just too adorable and practically was begging for getting a picture taken, especially as Eris rolled on her back, leaving her white belly fully exposed for the (now feeling innerly giddy) man to sofly pet. For such a scaly creature she was surprisingly smooth and soft to the touch, not unlike a snake that had recently shed. "Heh, maybe he does! After all Dio seems to get really content when you scratch him behind the ears, so you might be right." Carlos chuckled a bit at Eris' reasoning for Dio's perpetual grumpiness, though it was clear by the imp's reaction he did not find it as amusing.
"N-no I do not! That's a lie! The Dark Lord is not a mere house cat to be pet!" Dio proclaimed, huffing as he turned away, glad for once they were in such a dark place as that would keep Eris from noticing the faint blushing in his face. Did Carlos really need to share his weak spot with everyone they met?
It seemed as Carlos' plan had been successful, as the little bean was too busy rambling on happily about her home and seemed to have completely forgotten about the scary storm outside. "ICY Fate sure sounds like a lovely place! We should visit it some day, right Dio?" He said as he looked at the imp as if asking for approval, but the only response he got was low grumble from him.
Things seemed to be looking up...at least momentarily, until the chipper digimon suddenly looked rather crestfallen, her energetic movements slowing down as her expression turned rather sad.
"I miss them a lot..."
Those five words were enough to make Carlos' heart ache, and even Dio seemed to snap out of his brooding attitude to look back at the in training digimon, with a somewhat concerned expression. Right, for all her cheeriness she was still a lost kid separated from her home.
"Aw, come on Eris, don't be sad." Carlos said, patting the gigimon's head a bit, trying to sound as reassuring as possible. Even someone that wasn't all that great with kids like Carlos knew the best they could do now was trying to comfort her to the best of their abilities. And what better way to do so than to giving her something to look forward to?
"Hey, I just had a great idea. What if we take you back to your home as soon as the rain stops?"

"Alpha's still out there though, but um...could you help me look for him when the storm passes? I do want to go home, but I don't want him to be lost and left behind." Eris murmured softly as she thought Carlos's offer over leaning her little head into his pets where she lay on her back. Her gaze drifting to the storm raging outside as she shivered quickly shifting her eyes to Dio instead. Taking in the color that warmed his cheeks with interest and growing concern. Why was he turning red? Was he sick? Did he have a fever? Rolling back onto her feet the little Gigimon hopped down from Carlos's grip as she inched closer to the Impmon. Her little nose twitching as she went. He didn't smell sick, but...
"Are you ok Dio-Dark-Lord-Sir? You're turning awful funny colors. Do you have a fever?" She questioned leaning back on her hindlegs and using her tail for balance as she reached up trying to reach the Impmon's forehead to check, but falling woefully short.
"My Dad says sometimes Mon's turn funny colors when they're~" She trailed off her eyes screwing up and nose twitching, "When they're~" She tried again breath hitching, "They're~" She muttered before she sneezed harsh and hard her little front legs moving to try desperately to cover her nose and mouth unbalancing her as the motion toppled her backwards onto her back once more with the force of her sneeze.
"Sick..." She muttered from her spot on the ground with a soft wheeze.
