In the Network Plains an old fashioned car was parked not far from a tree. Underneath the tree was a Wizardmon named Mandrake and His Leomon husband Lothar. They had gathered a large amount of firewood as if ready to last the rest of the and into the night. Meanwhile settled amongst the branches near a large spider web woven amongst the branches was a small humanoid digimon about the size of a five year old human girl. Little Circe even looked shockingly human to those who weren't digimon seeing as any digimon could sense one another when they were in their true form.
The firewood stacked both Mandrake and Lothar rose to their feet before Mandrake looked up spotting Circe before he asked "Circe, could you come down little one?"
Upon being asked to come down Circe gracefully climbed down with skill that would impress Spiderman from anywhere in the Spiderverse. When reaching the ground the three foot three rookie looked up to look the four foot Mandrake in the eyes and said "Yes, Daddy."
Mandrake smiled at Circe it being obvious, despite half his face being covered, as the smile reached the Wizardmon's eyes and said "Lothar and I have been thinking that it is time for us to begin teaching you how to find food in other ways than using your web to hunt. You know just in case you don't catch anything in your web."
Circe stood there looking as if in deep contemplation before the humanoid spider girl said "Sounds like a good idea as I don't always catch anything and didn't know how to find food any other way before you and Dad found me, Daddy."
Lothar couldn't believe his ears as she had just referred to him as Dad but couldn't help but smile warmly. Sure Circe didn't talk to him much but it was clear she loved both of them. To her Lothar was also her real parent even though she technically didn't share any data with the Leomon. Lothar held out his hand which little Circe trotted over to him taking a firm grip on his hand before he asked "Ready to go look for some food, Circe?"
Circe nodded enthusiastically before looking over at Mandrake holding out her other hand. Mandrake nodded before walking over to her taking the child's hand and as soon as her grip tightened on his hand as well the family began walking looking for some food to eat.

It had been 4 days since he and those two other girls had arrived here 4 days since he had wondered off and lost them while they had been exploring this new and weird place.
Luke wasn't too worried.......for his mother he was. After all he had the tendency to run out and camp in the forests near the city. usually during a week end, or break. But he would always make sure to call in with his mother and let her know that he was alright. Out here for some reason his phone didn't work. He would try to call his mother but all that would come out of the receiver would be static
Currently he had found himself in some kind of.....plain area. There was just open grass land with a few trees scattered here and there. He had gathered as much wood as he could and started a fire. There were nice ripe meat apples being roasted over the flames currently. By the smell of them he could tell they were almost ready. He had gathered a fair amount of them when he was walking thought a forest nearby and ended up at the plains.
While the apples were cooking, Luke had started to make his shelter for the day. He had started a camp right under a slightly bigger tree then most in the plains. He was currently digging a den right under the trees roots. being careful not to damage the tree. After all he just needed shelter to rest under for the day and night before he moved on in the next morning.
The teen was humming a sea shanty as he throw out large piles of dirt and soil with his hands. These random missiles of dirt were being thrown everywhere, but by some insane form of luck it always missed putting out the fire or the food roasting over it.

Mandrake, Lothar, and Circe continued walking through the plains holding hands. Such a sight would likely be considered cute to the casual observer at a distance but as far as the family knew they were the only ones there. The sight of some mushrooms growing under a tree filled with meat apples caught Circe's attention and the spiderling released her grip on Mandrake and Lothar's hands before trotting over to the tree and kneeling down to get a better look at them. Mandrake and Lothar smiled before trotting after then young one and when they caught up and were peering down at the mushrooms Circe asked "Daddy. Dad. Look at these mushrooms. Do you think they are poisonous?"
Mandrake and Lothar knew more about edible plants than Circe by a long shot due to being more experienced in life so they took a careful look at said mushrooms before Lothar said "It looks like those mushrooms are definitely edible. Remember to keep an eye out for mushrooms like these as not only will they be potentially many different colors and patterns but many poisonous mushrooms will smell very appealing to eat. However do to you being poisonous yourself you already have an idea of what the more dangerous poisons would smell like."
"Why don't you gather some of those mushrooms, little one, while I use my telekinesis to draw some of the meat apples down from the tree." Mandrake said as he began to focus on said apples before placing a finger on each of his temples. Circe quietly nodded as she began to gather as many mushrooms as she could into her arms as meat apples began coming down from the trees. Just then Mandrake removed his cape scooping both the meat apples and mushrooms into it with Circe's help.
Then both Mandrake and Circe jerked their heads up as they sensed the mind of someone they didn't know and before Lothar could ask them what was wrong the Leomon sniffed the air as he caught the scent of cooking meat apples not far from where they were. "I smell meat apples cooking so I have a good idea what you two are sensing. So is it a digimon? A human? Or maybe both?" Lothar asked gently so as not to startle Circe more as she was now nervously snuggling up to Mandrake.
"Seems to be just a single human so far, old friend." Mandrake gently answered before he then said "I think we should carefully look into this. Hopefully that human is a spirit wielder because it would be dangerous for him to be by himself here in the Digital World otherwise."
The family moved on Mandrake holding the food gathered under one arm while contending with Circe clinging nervously to his back as if the spider child was conjoined to her Wizardmon father. Mandrake was more than used to this behavior from the timid child so he didn't say anything as the group walked. Soon they caught sight of a human teen all alone humming while throwing large piles of dirt. Baffled at the sight, and with Circe still clinging to him, Mandrake approached the dirt flinging teen before he said "Excuse me, young man, but what are you doing out here all alone? This world is full of dangers to more than just humans but humans are more vulnerable then the residents of this world by far."

Luke had been so busy building his shelter that he hadn't noticed the small digimon family approaching him. Not until Mandrake directly addressed him. The chaotic teen stopped humming and popped his head out from the den he was building. He was covered with dirt from head to toe, and he looked like he hadn't taken a bath for 2 days, he also had some band aides on his face, and a few bruises. Yet when he looked up at Mandrake the feral teen gave the wizardmon a bright smile.
"I got lost" he chirped answering Mandrakes first question with a smile answer. After all it was the truth. Luke climbed out of the temporary shelter he was building allowing the small family to see him fully. His clothing had seen better days. His muscle shirt was tattered and dirty, it seemed like it was last cleaned about two days ago. his shorts were just as ragged. Thankfully his athletic sandals seemed to be doing much better then the clothing on his back. His arms and legs were wrapped tightly with white bandages in some areas, mostly around his hands and wrists and more bruises decorated his arms and legs. The only item that looked relatively untouched on his person was the pristine, yellow straw hat hanging around his neck.
The teen shook the dirt off of himself by shaking like a dog would. throwing dirt out and around him. Thankfully he had done this away from the small family so they didn't have to worry about the flying dirt. "really??? cuz I've just been fighting everyone that attacks me and winning" the teen chirped as he made his way to the camp fire he had built and took all four of the apples he had been roasting. grant it he mostly fought those little guys, the slightly bigger guys were harder to beat, he usually just led them into traps he had set and then the last two guys he ran from. Luke was hot headed at times, but even he knew when to run from a fight. The teen walked back over to the family and offered them three out of four of the cooked meat apples. He was holding the fourth in his other hand. intending to eat that apple.
He didn't mind sharing the food he gathered. There was more then enough, especially in the tree he had decided to camp under.

Mandrake and Lothar waited patiently as the distracted teen pulled his head out of the shelter he was making for himself. Then Mandrake's eyes widened at the rough state the teen appeared to be in covered in dirt, bandages, and bruises. At minimum the young man looked as if he needed a bath. Lothar quietly crinkling his nose confirmed this cause it seemed the lad not only was filthy but he didn't smell too good either. Other than that Lothar said nothing not wanting to come off as rude.
When the young man smiled he answered Mandrake by telling the Wizardmon that he was lost and with how the teen looked both Mandrake and Lothar definitely believed him. Then when mentioning he had been fighting everyone who had attacked him and won Mandrake's eye brow raised. So was this young man a spirit wielder. Didn't hurt to confirm as Mandrake then asked "So how were you beating those you've come across young man?" Mandrake's tone was warm and friendly. A tone he had gotten a lot of practice with when he and Lothar started having kids.
Then when the young man offered Mandrake and his family a meat apple, Mandrake smiled though his cape hid most of his smile from sight as he said "Thank you, young man. My family and I have more food with us we can all share if you don't mind me cooking it first." Mandrake then knelt down and unfolded his cape showing the haul of meat apples and mushrooms they found while trying to teach Circe more about foraging. Speaking of Circe the little one had scooted back from her Wizardmon father before looking at the tree Luke had been digging near. Then the young spiderling scurried up the tree at speeds that would of made Spiderman proud of her. Upon reaching a solid branch the timid child sat upon it gazing down at the others below.
"It appears Circe's timidness has driven her to climb a tree to feel safer." Lothar said as he observed what Circe had done when Mandrake knelt down. Knowing she would be fine he then focused on Luke and Mandrake before kneeling down next to Mandrake and began preparing the meat apples and mushrooms to be cooked.

Luke had been in the process of biting into his own, fully cooked meat apple, when Mandrake had politely offered his own apples and for the whole group to share their foraged goods after they were cooked properly. Luke had no problem with letting the small family use his camp fire to cook their food. "Yeah sure, you can use my campfire" the teen chirped as he went back to where the fire was burning. Next to it was a large leaf and he placed the ready apples on the leaf.
He left the cooked meat apples there for the other three to pick up when ever they wanted. Luke had noticed the little girl that the couple had with them, but didn't draw any attention to her. Except to give here a bright sunny smile before turning his attention back to her parents. Luke may not be book smart but he was emotionally intelligent. Just from her body language and her obvious actions she was not ready to approach him. Though he made sure to keep track of where she was. From what he had seen surviving here, it was a harsh way of life sometimes. The last thing they needed was for her to be plucked out of that tree by a monster or something.
"With my fists, duh" Luke chirped as he sat down on the other side of the small campfire and handed the duo a bundle of sticks that they could use to skewer the meat apples on. "the little guys are so easy to beat, then the middle size guys are a bit harder. But a few eye pokes and some good hits send them packing. Its the biggest guys I have problems with" the teen added before he huffed and pouted "they're jerks! I told that one guy I was sorry for landing on his food! how was I supposed to know that he lived at the bottom of the cliff I jumped off of" He wondered if that windigmon?? windegemon??? ah whatever his name was, was still following him. He'd been chasing Luke constantly for three days. Its only been recently that he lost the ultimate level digimon.

It seemed that Mandrake and Lothar using the fire to cook their gathered food was okay with the teen so Lothar began setting sticks near the fire with meat apples and mushrooms stabbed through them before they were put near the fire. Lothar then sat cross-legged tending to the food so it wouldn't overcook.
Mandrake watched Luke as he watched Circe take refuge in a tree before he said "Don't worry, young man. Our daughter Circe has a knack for sensing danger before it is upon her so she will be able to get out of the tree if it no longer becomes safe for her." Mandrake was referring to one of the spider child's abilities that gave her a sense of hyper awareness which when combined with her telepathic senses she inherited from Mandrake she would be hard to be sneak up on.
As Mandrake heard about how the young man took care of himself the Wizardmon lightly chuckled before he said "Yes I agree those big ones can be quite dangerous. However there are some small ones that you should be on guard with too. Here in the Digital World digimon can be more dangerous than they appear. Anyway I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Mandrake and the Leomon with me is my husband Lothar. As for the little one in the tree she is our youngest child, Circe."

While the two digimon in front of him prepared their food using Lukes campfire. The teen in question had finished his first apple and grabbed another from the small pile on the leaf. While he slowly took a bite of the new meat apple, the teen observed their surroundings. So far nothing had happened, which was great, because Luke was pretty tired today. He didn't think he would be able to make a run for it if one of the bigger monster things showed up. He was also really, really hungry, and he didn't think that a big monstor creature would be able to scare him into moving when in the middle of his meal.
Luke was in the middle of scanning the skys as well when he heard Mandrake address him again. The teen looked up at the child that the couple had adopted and blinking. Before looking back down at her fathers, he beamed, clearly impressed with what Circe was able to do at such a young age. "really!!!?? thats so cool!" Luke chirped as he focused his attention back to Mandrake and Lother. He took another big bite out of the apple he was eating as Mandrake began to explain to him how even small beings were very strong. Which was odd, because then if this was true, Luke would now have to worry about the small monsters too. Because he had no idea how to tell if they were weak small monsters, or strong small monsters. Would that mean that he would have to run no matter the size of the monster?? how can you tell if they were strong or not? the strong small ones weren't very common, he hadn't run into any strong small ones. but this weird guy sa-.....
Ouch his head hurt.
Luke in the mean time had stopped eating the apple in his hand and had adopted a thinking pose. His head was tilted and his free hand was touching his forehead using his index finger. As his thoughts quickly spired out of control his face slowly started to redden, you could practically see the steam puffing out of his ears. Finally the teen let out a puff of air, and his eyes turned to swirls for a moment, his mind giving up after over working itself. The teen shook his head barley managing to catch Mandrake and Lother introducing themselves and their daughter. Happy that the subject had been changed(he didn't think his poor brain could take another crash like that) "its nice to meet ya!, my names Luke! Luke Takara!" Luke said with a beaming smile. Before he could continue though, Luke blinked when he recognized a term that Mandrake had used "Digimon??? like as in the card game??" he asked in a confused tone.
He had never been one to collect cards or play the card game. But he had been awear that it existed. Since a lot of his fans talked about it in the chat rooms he would set up or during live streams. A few had even sent messages to him, asking him if he was open to trying the card game for a live stream. It did look like fun, but Luke hadnt had the time to actually buy anything related to digimon recently.

Lothar continued to tend to the cooking food keeping a careful eye on it so the meat apples and mushrooms wouldn't burn. Soon the delicious smell of the cooking food was drifting throughout the campsite. From the safety of the tree Circe looked down in the direction of the smell keeping a close eye on everything and everyone below. A soft gurgle began to bubble from her gut indicating she was beginning to get hungry but she was uncertain about coming down. What about when the food was done?
As for the teen it seemed Mandrake's explanations were confusing to the young human if the reactions were anything to go by. Just how long had that young man been alone here in the Digital World anyway? Then when the young man introduced himself as Luke Takara. What Luke said next baffled Mandrake and Lothar judging by the confused looks on their faces before Mandrake asked "Card game? The only cards I know of that involve digimon are the ones that improve a digimon's abilities." Judging by Mandrake's tone of voice it was clear the Wizardmon was absolutely baffled looking as if his brain was about to short out.
Soon Lothar's voice broke the silence as the mostly quiet lion man said "Looks like the food is done."
Mandrake glanced up the tree where Circe was before he said "Circe, I know you are probably hungry by now. Come on down. If it makes you feel more comfortable you know you can sit next to me. Besides I don't think Luke means anyone any harm."
Circe shook her head nervously before her growling stomach made her sigh. Nervously shaking the young one cautiously climbed back down the tree making her way over to Mandrake before sitting down next to the Wizardmon snuggling next to him for comfort. Mandrake reached over and moved his hand under Circe's cape before rubbing the spider child's hidden spider legs on her back. Slowly Circe began to calm herself but was still wary of Luke.

Hearing Mandrakes response only confused Luke even more. For a moment it looked like he was about to have another bout of thought spiraling. However, thankfully, learning from his first mistake the teen shrugged and cut off his confused and jumbled thoughts. He still didn't get it....
"I think? I mean I've seen the card before, never played the game. So I don't know anything about that stuff. If its used to 'boost' your digimons during the game" Luke said with a tilt of his head. It would be clear to anyone present that this teen had no idea that digimon existed and he was currently lost in the digital world.
......
how thick headed was this kid!?
He turned his attention back to the couples daughter and gave her a sunny smile. He gave her a small wave as he spoke "I don't bite~ Promise!!" he chirped. He reached over and offered her a meat apple as a sign of friendship. She still seemed a bit timid so Luke tried to tone down his normally energetic personality. Something he did on very rare occasions.

Mandrake and Lothar glanced at each other for a moment before Mandrake looked back at Luke. It was more than clear that Mandrake's confusion only confused the teen more. Luke's words were beginning to make Mandrake suspect that this young man, though without a partner at this time, had no idea what a digimon was despite fighting a few. It clearly didn't take telepathic abilities to tell that Luke had no clue just how much danger he was in. Then a thought entered the Wizardmon's mind as Mandrake then asked "Luke by any chance do you have in your possession some kind of small curious machine?" If Luke had a digivice it might explain why the young man was in the Digital World for Mandrake had heard such devices occasionally led humans into various natural gates to the Digital World.
Though Luke did seem thick it was as if such a thing didn't bother Mandrake or Lothar one bit. It was almost as if they were used to dealing with humans similar to Luke. Meanwhile Luke's attention was currently focused on Circe. Said spider child was snuggling Mandrake while looking at Luke as if trying to figure him out. Clearly she was curious of Luke even if her naturally timid self drove her to instinctively keep her distance from strangers. When Luke offered her a meat apple the little one remained frozen in place for a moment. Then Mandrake and Lothar watched as Circe cautiously pulled away from Mandrake timidly reaching out for the apple but was ready to leap away if startled in anyway.

Luke was so busy trying not to scare Circe. That he didn't notice when the couple look at each other with concern. The only time he looked away from Circe, was when Mandrake asked Luke a question. The teen was still holding the apple out toward Circe while he turned to look at the wizardmon.
He blinked for a moment before it finally clicked. The teen nodded and quickly(though carefully, as not to startle Circe) he reached into his short pocket with his free hand and took out the item that was once his phone. He held up a D-Arc for both Lother and Mandrake to see. "I got this thing. Dont know what it is." the teen said as his thumb pressed down on the right button on accident. This caused the device to light up and project a 3-D map.
Right at the top of the screen was a blinking red dot.
It was very likely that whatever digimon he was paired up with. Was that little red dot on the map, and the device seemed to be trying to lead the teen to his partner. However Luke seemed to be going in the opposite direction from how far he seemed to be to the red dot.
Luke was still holding the apple steady for Circe to grab.

Circe cautiously grabbed ahold of the meat apple before she quietly and shyly said "T-Thank you, L-Luke." She then scooted back a bit said apple clutched firmly in her hands and began eating it. Sure the shy spider had come a long way from the child that was terrified of everything but still a some ways to go before she was ready to be on her own but she would get there in her own time. If there was one thing Mandrake and Lothar were was patient. Even more so since they became parents.
Meanwhile Luke brought out what was clearly a D-Arc from within his pocket and mentioned that he didn't know what it was. Mandrake and Lothar did though as they had seen quite a few different digivices in their travels. Lothar, who was not the most chatty of the pair at least in the beginning, then asked "That's a D-Arc but if that's the case then where is the digimon that is meant to be partnered with Luke?"
When his thumb pressed down on accidentally on the right button the digivice lit up and projected a 3-D map complete with a blinking red dot. When Circe's sapphire eyes widened in surprise and the little one pointed at the 3-D map she didn't need to voice her surprise as Mandrake spoke up clearly saying what the little spider was thinking as he said "It is clear that this map is trying to lead you to something, Luke. Perhaps we should follow the map and investigate." Now the question was would Luke be game for leaving camp momentarily to see where the map was leading?

Luke turned his attention back to Circe when she took the apple from his hand and thanked him for it. The teen chirped back "your welcome Circe, there's more on this leaf if your still hungry!" he pushed the leaf over to Circe before turning his attention back to the champion level digimon. He tilted his head in confusion when he heard Lother speak. D-Arc?? Digimon partner??
Before he could ask a question however Mandrake caught Lukes attention. "map??" Luke said in a questioning tone as he pulled his device back and turned it around so he could see what Mandrake was talking about. His eyes widened in surprise when his eyes landed on the 3-D map. Though he was still confused about what exactly was going on. It was obvious to Luke(well, now it was) that Mandrake had a point. This map was defiantly trying to lead him somewhere. But......
"meh, I'll follow it tomorrow" Luke chirped, sure he was excited about traveling more in this vast land and well finding whatever this device was trying to lead him to. However, he was exhausted for today, he had been traveling for a while now and he was very overdue for a small break at least. Not to mention he needed to find the way back home from, where ever this place in japan was.
This adventure could wait till later. When he had more time and supplies.
Luke pressed the buttons randomly, trying to figure out what did what. Then put it away and decided to change the topic. "so what are you guys doing all the way out here?" Luke asked with a grin.

Circe shyly smiled before continuing to eat and Mandrake took a cooked meat apple from near himself and Lothar before he said "Circe may still be a growing child but she seems to have inherited my small appetite. So as a result she likely won't eat that many meat apples and mushrooms." At Lothar's mentioning of a D-Arc and Luke's potential digimon partner the teen seemed understandably confused which seemed compounded by the surprise of when Luke saw the 3-D map.
Then when Luke said he would follow the map tomorrow neither Mandrake nor Lothar blamed him for judging by the rough shape the teen was in he was likely roaming around all day. Luke fiddled with his digivice randomly pressing buttons as if trying to figure the device out before putting it away. Then he asked what Mandrake and his family were doing all the way out there. This was a fair question and one Mandrake or Lothar could have asked Luke but it was likely the young man had no idea what he was doing all the way out here other than trying to survive.
"I suppose that is a fair question, Luke." Mandrake began before glancing at Circe who was still quietly eating. Besides with her Hyper Awareness ability she would be alerted of dangers seconds before it was upon them and Mandrake and Circe would likely sense someone approaching given their telepathic natures. Then Mandrake continued "See Lothar, Circe, and I set up camp not far from here and decided that Circe needed to learn alternate ways to find food other than trying to catch food in her web alone. Sure she is a spider digimon despite her human like appearance but I figured being versatile enough to forage for plants or maybe even hunt through things like fishing could be helpful to her especially when she is ready to be on her own."
