Seeking out the Magic (Open)

John had spent nearly every free moment since finding the magical statue which had turned him into Impmon trying to find more of them but had so far not been met with any success. He wasn't about to be deterred, not so soon after finding confirmation of the supernatural, validating his lifelong study of anything that even seemed like it might be mystical. He was determined to find more magic statues and there was one place that he had long since suspected of holding something arcane. The old entertainment district, which had been mysteriously destroyed without any rational explanation as to how. Perhaps, John reasoned, because the true explanation wasn't rational but magical. And perhaps there was still some of that magic there. And with his new transformative power, he was confident he could sneak in and find it.
"Alright, time to get to business," he murmured to himself, pulling out the device he had found and pressing the button on the side. Instantly the familiar light and tingling sensation enveloped him, shrinking him down from a tall, seventeen year old human to a child sized demon. A toothy grin on his face, he quickly began running down the ruined, decrepit street further into the district, counting on his small size and dark coloration to keep him from being seen in the growing darkness of the evening.

"What happened here?" Was all the purple clad digimon could ask as he looked around the area. Followed closely behind by his mercenary who looked worried. "Maybe we shouldn't be here Dust" the Lunamon responded hoping the Digimon would change his mind. The Impmon grasped the item around his neck. His broken pendant. 'We have to go over everything, even places like this, don't be scared Luna as long as we stick together we won't have any trouble." He told her calming the mercenary. The small Digimon nodded before both of them headed into the area, what they were looking for wasn't certain to even them but the amnesiac just wanted to cover every area he could. If he found anything that'd be great but he wasn't that certain he'd find what he was looking for here, still didn't hurt right?
Dust was well hidden under the cloak of darkness but Luna wasn't so lucky, the white pink rabbit like Digimon could easily be seen but Dust was sure no humans were around so best get to looking.

As John walked down the abandoned street, he started to wonder exactly how he would find anything specific in such a large area, with so much loose rubble and detritus. The statue that turned him into Impmon had hardly been large, after all. If there were any more, they could easily be buried inside a collapsed building or under a pile of wreckage. His ponderings were cut off, however, as he heard voices coming from nearby. He stopped dead, listening carefully to distant voices but couldn't quite make out what they were saying. He quickly started off towards the sound of the voices, carefully sticking to the shadows and trying not to make a sound.
Peering around a corner, John's eyes widened and his jaw dropped as he spotted another creature, a whitish pink rabbit creature of some kind. It didn't look quite as malevolent as his own form did. In fact, it actually looked more angelic than demonic and he cautiously stepped out from around the corner to greet it and hopefully find out more about it.
"Hello there, are you-" he began to call out only to stop dead as he noticed the second creature which had been concealed by the darkness. It was another Impmon, looking just like him but for some sort of pendant around its neck. "You're... the same kind of thing as me," he managed to remark with some measure of both surprise and confusion. It occurred to him that while he had not felt any particularly malevolent urges since transforming, a natural Impmon might not be so human in its dealings. He took half a step backwards, holding his hands protectively between himself and the other two.

Dust heard someone call out, he looked towards whoever. Luna seemed to hear the same but instead of being worried like Dust she was far more loose about it. "Hello" She called with a wave. Dust gave a similar gesture but noticed the Impmon backing off, and his choice in words made Dust slightly worried.
"Why are you backing up? I assure you we are no threat." Dust said to try and at least get somewhere, they were the same species and while Dust never acted the typical Impmon he was still not going to attack a fellow of his species. It was then Dust recalled what Maia had said, people could turn into Digimon so was this one of them? He shook his head lightly, he couldn't jump to conclusions.
Dust crossed his arms waiting for him to respond.

The friendly response from the brighter member of the pair helped ease John's worries somewhat and when the other Impmon expressed his peaceful intentions, he hesitantly lowered his arms and walked forward, choosing to trust their words for the moment. Since they didn't attack him and were clearly capable of speech,, they could be an invaluable source of information if nothing else and if he was lucky, his social awkwardness would prove to be limited to interactions with other humans.
"Ah, my apologies," he chuckled, still somewhat nervous but quickly building up his nerve as he spoke. "I was merely a little paranoid about bumping into somebody else here, as I expected it to be mostly deserted, but it seems fate has decreed a meeting between us and so here we are," he said with a flourishing gesture at the three of them. He then turned the gesture into a sweep of his arm as he crossed the other over his chest and bowed dramatically. "My name is John Dee. And you are?" he asked with a smile which he intended to be friendly but came out slightly more toothy than he realised. He had yet to fully get used to the differences between this form and his own, one of which was that this form seemed to have much more teeth.

Dust was happy that a fight didn't happen, it was the last thing he wanted though the name did seal the deal on who this was, Digimon tended not to have last names but he didn't really care about that, Human or not as long as he didn't attack Dust wouldn't either. "I was just looking for something, I doubt its here but I at least have to look." Dust said giving reason for why he was here, he didn't expect this John Dee to do the same but still it was alright. "Dust, and Luna." Dust said telling both their names before Luna could, giving her track record she'd say something stupid or silly again, there was no in between with her.
Luna tried to mimic what John did but she failed and almost fell on her face. Dust caught her and pulled her back up. "Don't do that Luna." He said figuring she would just fall again. "Your name though, are you truly a Human?" Dust asked just wondering, he wouldn't pressure anything considering he did have amnesia, maybe he had a last name but didn't know.

John chuckled as the brighter creature, Luna, lost her balance in attempting to replicate his extravagant bow. It had taken him a while of practice to be able to perform it flawlessly but he felt that it had certainly been worth it for the effect it caused. Admittedly, it was most impressive when he was wearing a cape, plus it had the benefit of allowing him to subtly pull something out of one of the pockets on his cape but even without it, he felt it was a decent display of showmanship. Dust's question caused him to pause but there didn't seem to be any hostility behind it so he decided there was little to be lost by being honest.
"Yes, indeed I am," he confirmed. "And I take it from the question that you, on the other hand, are not," he hazarded a guess before continuing on. "I also came here looking for something, namely more statues like the one that allowed me to take this form. Perhaps, if you told me what you were searching for, we could keep an eye out for both at the same time. Three pairs of eyes are better than two, after all, assuming that nobody actively tries to blind them," he suggested cheerfully and rapidly. Even if he didn't find what he was looking for, it would be worth sticking with these two if only to try and learn more about exactly what they - and for the moment, he himself - were.

Dust heard the last part and that made him a bit suspicious. Was this human in trouble to thinking someone was going to try and blind them, if not why say so in the first place did he think Dust was in trouble. "I don't think that will happen, but I agree three pairs are better, unless the other two don't know what you're looking for." Dust said believing that he should at least know what this human was looking for, it would help in the long run. "So, what is it you're looking for exactly, who knows I might of seen it along the way." Dust asked and Luna chimed in. "What we are looking for stands out, a large black and gold knight with a little girl, haven't seen one of those have you?" Luna asked hoping he said yes.
"Yeah like Luna said," Dust said but gave no other details and didn't seem like he was going to anymore, he really just wanted to find the damn knight and get over it already.

John smiled as Dust accepted his offer of cooperation, although he was briefly thrown for a loop by Luna's description. He had assumed they were looking for an object, not a person. Or two, to be specific.
"A black and gold knight with a little girl," he repeated, intrigued, stroking his chin with one hand. "Well, sadly I lack such clarity as to exactly what I'm looking for. I transformed into this form by finding a statue of an Impmon so I would assume that any other such statues would similarly resemble whatever creature they hold the power of," he hazarded a guess. "However, since you two are the first such beings I have ever laid eyes on, discounting myself of course, I don't know what they might look like. My only guess is that they will not resemble anything of this world," he suggested. "Regardless, none of us will find anything standing here so we should be off to resume our search," he added cheerily, pointing in a random direction. His rather vague description of his own goal, however, had reminded him that of the three, he probably knew the least about what they were and it seemed like a good chance to rectify that.
"Speaking of things that are not of this world, where exactly do beings such as yourselves come from?" he asked hopefully. "For that matter, how exactly do these powers work?" he rapidly continued, lighting and extinguishing a fireball in his hand as an example. His speech was rapidly increasing in both speed and fervour as questions popped into his mind too quickly to verbalise. "Do your kind naturally inhabit this world or come from somewhere else? How would such a journey between worlds even be made? Has human history been impacted by such creatures as yourself before now?"

Dust nodded, he was right standing was getting them nowhere fast. Then the questions came one after the other. Dust calmed down and started saying his answers. "The area is know as the digital world that's where we come from, we're called Digimon.." Dust gave the first answer then proceeded to do the same thing he did, Dust snapped his fingers making a fireball. "Powers are based on species. I can control fire and darkness. Luna can control Water." Dust answered.
"In order to travel there are two ways, a hidden station and a portal near someplace called the Shibuya river. The station is a broken platform, though I've never gone there." Dust said but then shrugged at that last question. "I wouldn't know, I suffer from amnesia truth be told. I know of one organization called DATS or something that deals with digital threats but other then that no." Dust after answering everything to the best of his ability nodded. "Is that all?"

Fortunately, it seemed that Dust had the patience to deal with John's rapidfire series of questions and his answers were just as informative as John had hoped. His excitement was momentarily curtailed when he heard the home of Digimon was called the Digital World. That was a name which strongly suggested technological origins as opposed to esoteric ones. A moment's thought, however, was enough to rationalise that technology alone, no matter how advanced, could not possibly be responsible for everything he had experienced. At the very least, he reasoned, such phenomena would have to have some mystical input. He was quickly distracted from that issue by Dust's description of his own powers, which drew John's interest.
"Fire and darkness? How odd, my own abilities seem to be geared towards fire and ice, each in equal measure to the other. I suppose some variation is not unreasonable within a single species and there is a link between ice and darkness in some forms of elementalism and symbolism. Perhaps seasonal influences of winter balanced by summer? The solstices are often considered to be times of spiritual activity after all but then again, our appearance does not suggest us to be creatures of balance. Perhaps a connection to various nether realms? Fire, ice and darkness are all common features of such planes, though rarely together," John muttered more to himself than to his companions. He almost forgot about them completely as he rambled on and likely would have, had they not been his only source of further information on the topic. It also helped that Dust's next answer had been one of the most interesting of all to him.
"Two portals within Shibuya? A station suggests a deliberately constructed portal but the other seems more likely to be naturally occurring, unless something buried in all that trash is the cause," he mused, remembering his own introduction to the river back when he had first moved to Shibuya. He didn't quite understand the point of the traditional prank. Just one more piece of evidence that he wasn't meant to get along with other people, he supposed. "If there was a similar concentration of portals worldwide then Digimon would be appearing en masse everyday. Shibuya must be either the sole location of such portals or at least a focal point for some reason. If the Digital World is artificial in origin, then it seems likely that those involved in the creation did so from here," he mused, wondering if such people might still be alive and how he could find them. "If you suffer from amnesia then I imagine you're unaware of whether there is any place in the Digital World where information as to its origins could be found. A shame but I imagine it would be easier to find out once I've reached it," he rambled on. It didn't occur to him to perhaps offer sympathy or concern for Dust's affliction, so caught up in his thoughts was he. Indeed, he was once again almost forgetting Dust and Luna's presence, deep in the midst of his own thoughts and theories.

Dust was quite sure John wasn't talking to him anymore and was more or less devising his own ideas about the areas, which was a bad idea when you had someone who had been there multiple times, despite having amnesia Dust still was a digimon and had some knowledge of the digital world, still he wasn't about to poke his head into his conversation with himself and decided to keep quiet until he had a question, which Luna had. "Hey, why do you think the item would be here anyway?" Luna asked, Dust was curious to that himself, despite the totems being for spirit users it'd make sense that they'd be in the digital world not the human world right? Still Dust had no reason for being here himself, the knight wasn't here most likely and certainly not a little girl alongside, but still best to learn about the areas as you go along.

Luna's question managed to draw John's attention away from his own rambling. For a moment he could only blink silently at her, his train of thought having been broken so suddenly, but he quickly regained his focus and smiled as he answered the question.
"Well, I found the first one in a shop completely by accident and since then, I've been keeping an eye out but with no luck. It occurred to me, however, that it is very likely that they might appear in places where other supernatural events, which I imagine were caused by other Digimon, have taken place," he began to explain his theory before gesturing around at the ruined and abandoned streets. "This entire district was completely destroyed some time ago and nobody knows exactly how or why. As far as the populace at large is aware, it may as well have spontaneously collapsed. As there is very little in this world that can cause such destruction in such a short time, and even less that can do it without leaving obvious signs, it seems likely that the cause originated in another world, most likely yours," he explained. "I'm hoping that whatever destroyed this place left some other items from your world here in its wake, items that I intend to salvage." His explanation concluded, John suddenly paused in mid-step as the obvious problem occurred to him.
"Of course, I'm sure that any such items that are left are no longer dangerous. After all, there have been no more incidents since then," he remarked, sounding slightly less than certain but not about to give up at the abstract threat of an unknown danger.

Dust was right John was in his own little world till Luna shattered it easily, it was clear by his face. Well it was also Dust's face so he sorta knew it well, he has had it longer then John. Luna didn't notice and just wanted her question asked, a bit rude but still he was the one ignoring them in the first place.
"You assume whatever destroyed this place left something?" Dust pondered, it wasn't that John was wrong about a Digimon possibly doing this, even Dust could tell that was most likely the case considering the sheer amount of things destroyed but normally you don't leave anything when you destroy something, kinda takes the purpose of destroying away. "If It's danger leave it to us, we're quite strong as a team." Luna said, Dust didn't deny it though he could handle himself well in a fight after all.

"It's certainly possible. After all, to attack an entire district must have been a large undertaking, otherwise it would happen more frequently. It probably expended a lot of power here, perhaps it was even destroyed before it could move on to the rest of the city," he postulated with a shrug. "Regardless, the odds of finding something are better here than anywhere else, I imagine," he said. In truth he was searching from a point of virtually no information and was thus mostly operating based on guesswork. more about Digimon, he was already thinking about searching at the river or the station, if not in the Digital World itself. Luna's assertion that she and Dust could fight off any threats drew his attention and he turned to her with an interested look.
"Oh? You two don't exactly look like you could fight something which caused this much devastation," he pointed out bluntly, gesturing around. "From what I can tell of my own power, I'm strong enough to fight off human threats but whatever caused this must be of a vastly higher order of power. Unless you are vastly more powerful than your appearances would suggest, I would not hold out much hope of defeating such a creature," he admitted. There was no malice in his tone, just a distinct lack of tact. After all, while he acknowledged that appearances could be deceiving, especially in regards to something as new and unknown to him as Digimon, there were limits to what even he could easily imagine. The idea of Dust and Luna fighting a city destroying monster was far beyond those limits.
