Seeing those around her buzz into motion or low chatter, Alicia sighed softly to herself. “Any time, Mitsuko.” She answered back for her part in shielding the group. MagnaAngemon seemed prepared to act in her stead when it come to the disturbance in the forest. The two shared a look, and Alicia nodded back to him in turn. It was an incalculable show of trust, to allow his partner’s fate to rest in another’s hands.
But then again, when your hearts beat so in sync and you feelings burn so brightly together that you can achieve a power that was beyond you at the time by merging together... how could you not trust such a person? Certainly, everyone lost their way at one point or another, but that’s what you had friends you could trust for. So that when you do fall off the trail, they’re there to help you back on your feet.
Still, instead of confirming hostility or lack thereof, the subject of their concerned seemed to flee at best possible speed while going into stealth. Or reverting to a less notable form as Cion had considered. Perhaps it was the Devidramon from earlier indeed. It was the only likely source of the earlier scream from the reflected bolt. perhaps it was something else all together.
So it was game plan time. Cion had a point that they can ignore it for now but...
“Finding and securing the fruit may be our main objective, but with a Blimpmon in the area affiliated with our foes, enemy reinforcements are all but a given. Just finding it won’t do as we’re just three fighters. We’ll be overrun if they decide the prize with worth mounting a dedicated siege. And with something as precious as this fruit...” She let that last sentence hang a bit, certain that she didn’t have to finish it.
”Options do exist though. It’s just hard to determine what they are without knowing the layout of the fruit’s location. If certain factors are present... it may be possible to make such a siege too costly, even for this ‘Heaven’s Elixer’...” Sol mused a loud, rubbing a hand against his chin.
”I honestly thought I’d have to bring up the ‘turtle up for the siege’ option. But if you’re gonna break your stereotype I suppose I should pull the switch-a-roo too. That is, it might be worth considering going on the offensive and dealing crippling blows before or as they’re setting up. Knock ‘em on the back foot and keep them there, as it were, until they simply have to choose between fleeing or getting completely destroyed.” Kisara continued with a hum.
“This seems like too big an operation to push back that easily though... We don’t know how big of a force we’re dealing with here, nor do we have any idea of how much of this group’s power is concentrated on the effort...” The Metalumindramon huffed out. Then she looked over at Dracmon, eyes glimmering in curiousity.
“... Any chance it could be possible to relocate the fruit and/or its tree to somewhere either hidden better or more easily defensible? Or is that not an option? If we can take their objective away from this Ceresmon, they’d have no reason to stick around...” A long shot idea at best, but better to cover as many bases as possible.

Mitsuko could feel the blood pulsing inside of her ears. It was always the same feeling she got when battles happened, and even a bit after. Her heart was hammering rapidly, as she watched MagnaAngemon's stance. It was apparent that he didn't wish for her to get any closer. With a small sigh she stepped back towards the group. However at the sound of a labored groan, Mitsuko wheeled around and briefly locked eyes with Cion for a moment. Her heart skipped a beat, as she read irritation within her comrade. She's not happy with us... Mitsuko thought to herself. Mitsuko then noticed the damage done to Cion, for the first time. Her eyes widened, as she gasped slightly. "MagnaAngemon..." Mitsuko whispered. His gaze left the bushes after the flash of white light, where he turned towards his partner. "Yes, Suki-chan?" He glided up to her, his feet not touching the ground as he hovered in the air. A sharp smack filled the air as Mitsuko hit her partner. "You little liar!" Her face was blushing with rage. "We're not all alright! Cion's hurt, rather badly! And you just brushed it off?!" "Hey! I didn't..." MagnaAngemon tried to argue but Mitsuko had already grabbed a hold of his hand, and was dragging him back to the group. "Wait... I just thought you meant if anyone didn't survive!" MagnaAngemon then gazed upon Cion, and noted the damage. "Oh Digi-Gods..." His voice dropped off, as he shook out of Mitsuko's hand and lightly landed before the vulpine digimon. "Lady Cion, I'm so sorry, please forgive us." Mitsuko said softly, her eyes glittered with sincere tears as her partner unfurled his wings. Slowly she watched as MagnaAngemon's wings started to glow with a rainbow-like light. "Magna Antidote" The angelic digimon called, as the light burst forth from his wings and coated Cion, repairing damages done during the brief battle. As the healing spell began to take effect, MagnaAngemon lowered down to Cion's right ear and whispered : "I'm sorry, if I was callous towards you. That was never my intention. I could give you reasons as to why it was over looked, but that isn't fair to you either. It should never have happened, you deserve so much more than excuses. You protected Mitsuko and the others; for that I am greatful to you. Please, forgive us."
MagnaAngemon pulled away, as the light faded. "So, it looks like the plan is to go after the fruit then." Mitsuko nodded gently as she gave Cion a soft smile, brushing away the tears that ran down her face. The silverette listened to Alicia's plan. she liked it. Very much. Fight on our territory, not theirs. Eliminates any traps or ambushes they have set up. And we would have the element of surprise. Mitsuko nodded at Alicia. If her plan would work, great. If not, back to the drawing board, which Mitsuko had an idea for. Battle Log:
1. MagnaAngemon uses MagnaAntidote on Cion - 0/1 Cooldown ((OOC: Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've been dealing with some personal family issues, that required immeadiate attention. Since it happened, my mind couldn't concentrate on making any replies. Again, I am so sorry.))

Quite honestly, Dracmon was just happy that everyone could still get on their feet. More than any sort of personal connection or concern for his fellow teammates, the imp was trying to think ahead so that they wouldn't run into a situation like that again. And, as Cion pointed out, this could all start by going to try and finish off that problematic Devidramon while it was still on the ropes!
That plan, however, quickly melted away as the signal vanished from Dracmon's enhanced sight! Cion was quick to try and put forth a theory - a reasonable one, considering what they knew - but the virus-type shook his head. "I'm able to sense rookies just fine, and anything less than that wouldn't have made such a rustle. Then again... maybe it managed to slip away in Ceresmon's data field?" There wasn't much of a definitive tone - honestly, it was more the guide muttering to himself than anything else - and it would be more than clear that he wasn't believing his own words.
He knew something was off about this. But, despite that, he had to consider all the options on the table, even the ones that the ancient spirits were bringing up! "Turtle up, huh? Honestly, its been bugging me how quiet it's been around here. For a place that's supposed to be full of hostages, we just get a couple from an advance force?"
The imp shook his head. "If they have the force to siege, then there's no reason they would have held back during the fog. We'd already be captured, unless there's something else to it. In the worst case, they're waiting until we can sniff out the fruit..."
Ugh, and he wish he had better information! Relocate the fruit? "Couldn't tell ya, honestly! All I know is that its supposed to be some kind of big ball of data. But, if we're all on-board..."
Yup, there were at least two votes to branch out into the forest, and try to locate the fruit themselves! Not knowing if it was the best option, the imp gave a nod. "Alright. Cion, take this time to recover. Magnaangemon, restore Cion at every interval you're able to. Alicia, for now, you're our front lines. Be ready to turn to wherever I indicate."
As for the Dracmon himself, he would take to the center of the formation. Clasping his palms together, the eyes on his mask lit up brightly: "Scry Beyond!" Like that, his mask's eyes still glowing, he held both his palms loosely outward. Ironically, this enhanced sight made him walk like he was clambering about with the lights off, but it would work!
"Expand, expand... sensing... twelve degrees right..." He carefully righted himself, and started to step forward. "About... 900 meters. 800 to 1100, in that arc... alright. Thataway!" His mumbling became more clear in the end, pointing towards a direction nearer the center of the Ceresmon. It seemed that the Dracmon knew where he was going!
Which, well, gave the group enough time to both settle in formation and make their own preparations. On top of that: "Just a warning... it was muddled before, but I'm fairly confident the Renamon can attack from beyond my range of sight. Keep your eyes peeled, stay out of clear sight-lines!" Apart from that, well, it would be a walk through the thick of the woods, not a path in sight! Somebody would likely have to thresh their way forward!

Listening to whatever Alicia and her alter egos were, Cion could not help herself but nod often. It was true that a direct confrontration with the Blimpmon, which was likely the base of the corrupted digimons, was not a smart move for obvious reasons. Regardless, one of the symbiotic creatures believed that it was possible to utilize deception in some form to make their adversaries hesitate. They could also utilize guerrilla tactics to wear down enemy forces slowly, or simply attempt to relocate the wanted fruit, either with or without its tree, to another location that they could properly defend. Options over options, the vulpine digimon was not sure about any herself yet.
Instead of taking the time to properly consider Alicia's suggestions however, Mitsuko and MagnaAngemon claimed her attention. The tantrum the young girl threw was quite infantile and uncalled for, as well as disrespectful towards her partner... although it came from a bright spot of her heart. She seemed angry about the angelic digimon not helping her out, which was a little patronizing, but again she did not blame her for that. Actually, Cion couldn't hold back a weak chuckle as Mitsuko literally forced the hand of her partner to heal her. Adorable.
"It's just some bruises and a slightly nagged armor. Have eased spirits." She spoke gently yet firmly with her aged, synthetic voice to both the young girl and MagnaAngemon. After all, a sophisticated female digimon like had to endure a little pain every now and then. It was part of her noble vacation as a mercenary. Besides, far was it from her to beg for help or show too much weakness. Still, it was not like a helping hand was not appreciated, especially since they were all in one boat for this little adventure. So either they worked together properly or they would face many hard challenges.
"Calm down, there is nothing that needs my pardon... and it's unfitting. You've got to be strong for your partner after all, digi-destined." The CyberSagitamon Burst Mode spoke with utmost patience like a mentor, wanting nothing less for Mitsuko to have a calm heart and absolute focus for the task at hand. Being bowed down with sorrow would not help either of them. Not to forget that she was holding no grudge against any of her allies, since it did not suit the stalwart lady. It had been her mistake to not solely rely on herself after all.
Savoring the warmth and comfort of MagnaAngemon's healing-ability, she quietly listened to what he had to tell her. After he was finished, it was her turn to quietly return the words. "I don't blame you for anything, darling, and stop asking for forgiveness where none is needed. It's one of my purposes today to keep you all safe; it's what I do. Although you are right, it should never have happened. We all are in this together, hence we must assure the other's survival. Keep that in mind, and we'll outlast today." She spoke with mostly a neutral, instructive tone to her voice.
Her relaxed facial expression covered by her helmet, her golden eyes shifted to the smiling Mitsuko and then back to the forest near them. With all information it hand, it was now up to Dracmon to either comply or refuse to comply. Cion stayed silent as she listened to their auditive companion trying to think about an optimal solution. He raised a couple of good points, but unfortunately none of them were conclusive. In the end, it too agreed with Alicia's plan to carefully look for the fruit first before deciding on anything else.
"I'm fine, but thanks for the consideration." She replied to Dracmon as she took her position at the back of the group. And with Dracmon's special sight, it seemed they were at least heading in the right direction. Readying her futuristic anti-matter rifle, she would serve as everyone's eyes and ears while watching their backs. Naturally, she expected many traps and ambushes, but with her tremendously increased powers at her disposal, she was confident that they could overcome anything.

Alicia hummed softly to herself as MagnaAngemon went to Cion’s aid after Mitsuko alerted him to her condition. A bit harshly all things considered, as well, but one could say it was necessary as well. Either way, she had nothing to add to that bit of interaction.
Her focus went to Dracmon as she listened to his comments. Before balking at one in particular. “Wait, hostages?” She asked in surprise, eyes wide. “That makes things all the more troubling...” she growled out to herself. Hostages on top of everything else? They really needed to get all the information they could.
”The possibility exists that we caught them off guard, and they weren’t expecting us...” Sol mused off hand.
“It was a long shot idea anyways...” Alicia answered back at not getting a conclusive ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on relocation. “No worries, I’ll keep the worst of it away from you guys.” Cion may have been a level higher then her now, but her heavy armor may have meant she was better protected still...
The shimmering metal dragon waited for their formation to finalize, taking the front as the most likely area to be attacked from first, while keeping an ear out for Dracmon’s alerts. Then, once he had indicated a direction, she began to move, lumbering onward at a fairly sedate pace. She considered shifting back to Mercurialdramon, but decided against it. Like this, she could bring her Mirror Shell up again at a moment’s notice to cover the group from most, if not all, angles right away.
So that made her choice for her, and she made sure to stick close to everyone for obvious reasons. “Once more unto the breach...” she mused to herself as they moved.

Mitsuko's eyes widened as she exchanged glances with MagnaAngemon. Hostages. Her hands clenched into fists, as her whole body began to tremble with righteous fury. Her partner laid a hand gently upon her shoulder, as he nodded his head. He understood how she felt. Complete the task at hand. Save the hostages. Should they meet the hostages on their way to the fruit, so be it. But they wouldn't go home without at least trying. The silverette tried to focus on Dracmon's words. Cion was right, she wouldn't be of any use if she let herself be taken over by her emotions. Yes she should feel them, but use them to fuel her determination rather than be a slave to them.
Mitsuko nodded at Dracmon's words. "They are waiting on something. As you say, it could be for us to find the fruit. But if they couldn't find it, why? They've been here longer than we have, allowing them to scour the area." Mitsuko walked in the space between Alicia and her partner. "I have a two theories." The musician put her index finger up, ticking off the first theory. "The most likely, is that they have already found the fruit. But something is preventing them from obtaining it. Perhaps a puzzle, a trap, or a guardian of sorts. They haven't figured out how to get past it."
MagnaAngemon listened as he kept a close eye (so to speak, I mean hello... he's wearing a helmet!) on Cion, making sure he didn't note any limping or sign of injury. He could sense Alicia up front near Dracmon, Mitsuko behind them, and he kept pace with Cion bringing up the rear. Speaking of guards, his was up and at any sign of movement was ready to spring into action.
Mitsuko then took a deep breath, and let it escape slowly as she considered the points of her second, yet weaker, argument. Again, she put up another finger, ticking off the second theory. "Like Dracmon said, perhaps they haven't found the fruit yet. Why search aimlessly? Hence why they took the time to take hostages. The natives know this area better than anyone; it's a basic, yet cruel, tactic of warfare. Threaten them until they give you what you want. Either way..." Mitsuko shuddered at the last part of her thought. "You would never send your strongest warriors out first. You keep them in reserve until you absolutely need them. Then you place them in the most important spot either as a guard, or as an attacker. A trump card to ensure victory, so to speak."
MagnaAngemon nodded his head in agreement to his partner's theories. "While I'm all one for wishful thinking Sol, I highly doubt we caught them off guard. They had to have had a trap set up. We arrive and Devidramon was there distracting Cion and I at the front, and Renamon trying to snipe Alicia in the back, literally. They couldn't have had time to set it up, and execute it within the moments we had arrived. They knew someone would come to help, they just didn't know who. What do you think Cion?"
Mitsuko lowered her gaze, as she followed in line. Her partner had a point, one that was rather obvious. However there was an even more sinister thought that played at the back of her mind, which sent an ice cold shiver of fear down her spine. Yes, they knew someone was coming. But how did the enemy know exactly where they would arrive at?

Well, if nothing else, this was definitely going to be a tense walk through the woods. It was clear that all they could go on, at this point, were mere theories about the situation around them. As Alicia's voice perked up about hostages, the Dracmon gave a nod. "We have to assume as much, anyway. I find it highly unlikely that the woods would be so quiet, otherwise - you'd think there would be parts of Ceresmon's back that would still be holding out against this force, right?" Actually, that silence very much bothered the imp, a small 'tch' escaping his voice.
And Mitsuko's theories all had their potential as well - if they already knew where the fruit was, were they walking into a trap? If they simply could remove it, it would make no sense to use their goal as bait, but if there was some trick to it, then stalling for time with hostages made perfect sense! But equally likely was the fact that they took the hostages as bait to have their stake in the fruit - taking advantage of what they could immediately find, to have a bigger stake in it later on. "That sounds more likely - they could have also meant to interrogate hostages to try and ascertain the location of the fruit. But to think they'd have someone stronger than that electric duo..."
This was definitely going to be an interesting walk. MagnaAngemon also had a point, that they seemed oddly prepared for intruders - to this, the imp shook his head. "Our entrance point to the Ceresmon was fairly random, based on the Witchmon's method. All that tells us is that they're method to react is quite efficient."
It didn't take long for that tense walk through the woods to get underway. Dracmon, as their vulnerable yet valuable guide through this foreign forest, took to the center. Cion, the second-best at scouting, kept to her mega form and had her rifle at the ready to any immediate threats. Alicia would be their front vanguard, holding the perimeter to any actual or perceived threat. Mitsuko would likely stay nearer to Dracmon, at the center of the group, and MagnaAngemon would provide support as necessary on either front.
For a long while, this walk would be had in relative silence, aside from maybe a few words between the group. During that almost-kilometer-long trek, they would be able to take in the environment of the forest, in isolation, for the first time - in many ways, it was simply like the Sever Woods below, with warm soil, thick underbrush in spots, and a dense amount of trees and greenery that provided both annoyance and cover to this traveling group.
But there was more than that: above, the constant sound of wind whipping through the canopy would be ever-apparent, leaves occasionally raining down in great numbers whenever the Ceresmon hit a packet of turbulence. And much like the thick fog before, occasional patches of white would appear on their left and their right: literal clouds that hadn't been entirely shredded by the trees cutting through, that created patches of thick, nearly opaque cover. And despite the warmth of the soil, the entire forest seemed a good ten or so degrees colder than the same on the surface of the Digital World, simply for being held up so high. It truly held the sense that this was an alien forest, that was remarkably similar to the ground below.
Still, this might not take long to adapt to, or perhaps it would only be a passing thought with the reality that the Renamon sniper or the Devidramon could show up again at any moment! Dracmon made sure that wouldn't be the case, muttering every so often that the 'path was still clear' as they cut and pushed through the depths of the woods.
And, eventually, the group would come upon another clearing. Here, the Dracmon slowed, and stepped forward, examining the area. This was just a flat area of grass and a few thin trees, a boulder or two strewn about - nothing entirely out of the ordinary. And that was it: the Imp raised his hands, scanning this area intently, before he whispered. "Okay... wait, no, where is it?" He sounded frustrated, as he stepped forward, a 'tch' escaping his clenched teeth. "I know what my eyes said... it should be right... here!"
He pointed his arm out, as if he meant to point to a spot. But just as he did, his forearm and elbow simply vanished from sight, as he looked towards the rest of the group! "So, it means that there must be fa-AKE?!" And as he turned back, he noticed the anomaly as well, quickly pulling his arm back, to - thankfully - find it all in one piece! And, cautiously, he extended his hand again, once more disappearing behind 'something'.
This explained quite a lot, actually: with a sigh, he motioned for the group to follow, and this time stepped right through that 'point of invisibility'. Once he was across, it would be entirely impossible for those on the other side to see or hear anything that he was saying... but for those that chose to follow?
Well, they'd see it: hidden from plane view, on the other side of that concealing wall, was a magnificent tree. From its base, the bark held a distinct color, mixing azure and ruby to create almost a crystalline aura, paired with the natural, grey, rustic color of the bark underneath. Its strong base stretched right up, the tree's height about half of those that made the canopy. Its branches had an even more crystalline sense than the trunk, a light glimmer shimmering from its vibrant red leaves, which gave the tree a healthy, bright color. And on every few branches, a brilliant, blue fruit, the size of an apple and with skin like a cherry, hung from a strong, resolute stem.
There was no doubt what they were standing before: this massive tree before them was their destination, the 'Tree of Life', but it would hardly feel like their job was over. Just a few feet from the tree, a Digimon knelt near: a Witchmon. Unlike her sister's red garb, this Witchmon's robes were blue. A sigil pulsed around her, the Digimon's hands clenched together, as she continuously muttered a spell - likely the one concealing the tree. Just how long had she been here, performing this spell over and over? The cloth she wore was well wrinkled, the dress dark and muddied by the knees. "H-hey, Witchmon?" Dracmon tried to call over. "Your sister - ack!" As he tried to step closer, he was forced to step back, a powerful, sharp root forcing its way up from the ground!
"My sister, then? Please, keep your distance." The Witch cautioned, answering between lines of her incantation. "No closer, please. Disturb the tree and I will defend it."
"... I thought we were supposed to be..." Claiming the fruit, right? But this Witchmon didn't even want them a step closer than this? Just what were they supposed to do, here?

There were many possibilities to consider, but just like at the very beginning, they had no concrete proofs for anything they theorized. Their adversaries might know where the fruit is, they might not. They might already have it or not. Rescuing those they captured might be the right decision, or it wasn't. There were simply too many unknowns to base any decisions on them, which was why sticking to the plan at hand was likely the smartest idea. At least that way, they could focus on themselves and the task at hand, and considering the forest was possible filled with traps and ambushes, it was certainly the best option for their survival.
Assuming her role as spotter at the tail of the small group, her futuristic rifle always at hand, she quietly followed everyone else through the thick forest. For a long while, this walk would be had in relative silence, aside from maybe a few words between the others. During the long walk, tthe vulpine digimon took in the environment of the lush forest. In many ways, it was simply like the Sever Woods below, with warm soil, thick underbrush in spots, and a dense amount of trees and greenery that provided both annoyance and cover to all of them.
Heavy winds often passed them by, occasionally accompanied by clouds that were not totally torn apart by Ceresmon's ginormous frame. Everything became steadily colder, though thankfully the air remained rich in oxygen. And despite the atmosphere of dread and dead silence, an assault did not occur. If this was fortunate or not Cion could not quite tell, knowing well that those under the influence of the metal corruption might pursue them quietly. But as they reached another clearing, her stance relaxed a little, by now having fully recovered from the previous impact forces that had damaged her.
Yet, as Dracmon put it, something was clearly wrong about this place. Cion believed the impish digimon that the fruit was supposed to be here, but it clearly was not. Yet as he attempted to point at the right direction... parts of his limbs vanished. A hushed gasp escaped her lips, muffled by her helmet, though thankfully Dracmon had not actually lost parts of his limbs. No, it had been an illusion of sorts, or perhaps an invisible portal to another realm. "Clever. But where there is a hiding-place, there is also likely a treasure... and sentinel." She advised everyone to remain calm and cautious.
Following their leader through the incorporeal barrier, she soon saw what they had been after all along. The majestic tree that was certainly the carrier of the fruit they required; it looked like it was made out of color crystal, even if it was smaller than all other trees. And indeed it carried fruits, resembling azure apples. They had reached their destination, but as the armored digimon had suggested, the tree and the fruits were indeed guarded by someone... a familiar digimon to be precise.
A Witchman clothed in blue instead of red; curious. "Witchmon's mentioned twin sister?" She asked Dracmon and those who had followed them quietly, certain that this was the case. As they tried to approach her though, she displayed open hostility, especially against Dracmon. That was unexpected, but patience and adaptability were a key skill of every mercenary, and now it was time to utilize it properly.
As demanded, Cion did not move, and she also holstered her weapon on her back. "We are here to retrieve the fruit for your sister and her patients, as you seem to know. Please explain why you are so protective of it, against us as well, and I'm sure we can find a solution that makes everyone happy." She offered a figurative open hand, ready to be diplomatic and cooperative about things.

Alicia huffed softly to herself as she let the matter of the hostages fall silent. At least she wasn’t the only one reacting to the news. Mitsuko of course was distressed as she expected, and the Dracmon himself was also bothered it seemed. Cion didn’t seem to flip or flop one way or the other, but the spirit user got the feeling that her current form was... not exactly ‘cold’ but very reserved and analytical. Stoic, that was the word she was looking for. Only time will tell if that’s true or just a mistaken assumption.
“I think its more likely someone’s taking the effort to hide it.” Alicia noted to Mitsuko when she questioned why their enemies had yet to discover the fruit they sought. “And I hope we’re not fouling up that person’s attempts by seeking it out ourselves...” She sighed to herself at that, but what else could be done? “You’ve got a point though, it’d be too easy if those two were the cream of the crop, as it were.”
”... I was actually being cynical with noting that possibility, MangaAngemon.” Sol gently corrected, looking to the angel. ”Them being off guard would’ve been a best case scenario for them because it means we could’ve had some cover to scout and plan without being harassed, but bad luck blew that cover immediately giving them time to fortify and make things hell for us. If they had been expecting us, and that was all they could afford, then this would’ve been infinitely easier and we could simply slice away at them with superior tactics and be done with this whole mess before dinner would be served. That or they would be immensely arrogant to the point where we could just blitz them hard and fast and complete the objectives with even greater ease, even factoring the hostage situation in.” Nodding to himself, the dragon sighed at that. ”Well, once more unto the breach, I suppose. Nothing to be done about it now.”
”We never have good luck pulling these rescues, do we?” Kisara noted with a pout. ”Something always starts tipping the disaster dominoes over...”
“Can we not talk like it’s the end of the world if we got into a scrap right at the beginning?” Alicia snapped quietly to her advisors, who in turn looked back at her, silent. “Thank you.”
With that, at the very least, the three of them fell silent until Dracmon started grumbling about how something should be there that isn’t. ”Invisibility field, guaranteed...” Sol muttered. And then Dracmon’s arm vanished while he wasn’t looking. Then Cion gasped and Dracmon noticed his dilemma, freaking out. ”Called it. That area is so thick with magical energy it was the only possible explanation. Factor in that our contact was a Witchmon who has a sister up here...” The dragon spirit let that trail off as those who decided to encroach upon the boundary did so, Alicia and her spirit guides following shortly afterward.
“Wow... that’s not your every day apple tree.” Alicia muttered, looking to take a step forward. Right up until Sol rapped his knuckles on her armor, giving her pause. “Wh-”
”Stay.” he ordered knowingly. Then Alicia’s eyes went wide as Dracmon was nearly skewered by a thick root. Now why’d that happen!? She looked to Sol for answers, but the dragon merely drifted to the closest point the Witchmon had allowed, taking a seat upon the earth.
”Her caution is well advised, Cion. Communication is sparse with regards to Ceresmon’s nomadic nature. She likely has yet to hear from her sister that aid is coming, let alone who to expect or why. Further more retrieving the fruit ourselves should probably be a last resort. I know not whether it’s the case for the Fruit of Life, but more mundane fruits do not last much longer once removed from their source. Maybe it’s different for this one though. Or perhaps it wilts even faster then a mundane fruit once plucked. Not something we can afford to risk.” The dragon noted to the huntress Digimon.
”... You must be exhausted... I’m sorry we all couldn’t come sooner...” Kisara suddenly quipped, taking in the Witchmon’s appearance. The ice maiden bit her lip, her expression practically overflowing with knowing concern. ”Regardless of what we do, time is definitely not on our side. I’d be willing to bet Witchmon can’t channel that spell for too much longer.”
“... Yikes...” Alicia muttered. One advisor being concerned about what’s going on already set her on edge. When both had good reason to be raising the red warning flag? It was only the severity of the situation that kept her from flying into a panicked tirade. “Anyone have ideas?”

"Efficient... Riiight." MagnaAngemon muttered sarcastically under his breath as he continued to follow the group. Apart from that bit of sarcasm, the Angel and Human duo didn't really say too much more during the trek towards their destination.
Mitsuko's hand was tightly clutching her D-Arc as they approached another clearing. Who knew if this was yet another trap laid by the metallic monsters. Better safe than sorry, right? The Silverette watched as Dracmon flustered about the location. Data didn't usually lie, so there had to be a logical explanation. The tamer's eyes widened as the imp's arm swung out, and disappeared! Before she could even exclaim anything, he witnessed the strange phenomenon with a brief startle in his voice. Yeah if your arm disappeared like that too you would be startled as well, she quietly chided herself.
She watched as Dracmon, Cion, and Alicia and company ventured in towards the invisibility field. Mitsuko looked up towards her partner debating on following or keeping watch out here. MagnaAngemon nodded, as if understanding her predicament and just gave her a reassuring smile. Yes, if they were going to be ambushed it would have happened already. Or perhaps when they leave the field. She would make sure that they were on their guard after the events that were to unfold behind the curtain, so to speak. With a nod of her own she entered into the invisibility field.
Upon her entry, she heard the conversations between the blue Witchmon, Dracmon, Cion, and Alicia. Mitsuko took a tentative step forward, hoping to not to upset the spell casting digimon. "Please..." Mitsuko's voice was soft and full of sincerity "Hear us out." Mitsuko eyed the Witchmon, noting that she was inclined to keep her spell going. Perhaps this would be their only chance to convince her of their pure intentions. Mitsuko followed Cion's lead, deciding to add her own opinion as well.
"We know you're tasked with guarding this tree and preventing any harm that may come to it or from it." The silverette said softly, as her eyes seeking Witchmon's. "Trust us, we don't wish for any harm to come to anyone as well. We were asked to come because according to your sister, there was a note asking for help." Mitsuko looked up towards her partner as he stepped forward as well.
"If I remember correctly, we weren't asked to disturb the tree or even touch the fruit." MagnaAngemon recalled the first meeting with the Red Witchmon. "According the the flier that was sent out we were told to find you, secure your safety, find and protect the Fruit of Life, and ward off any enemy forces that appeared."
Mitsuko's eyes widened, how come he could remember details like that? Ask him to stay out of the sweets or her diary, yeah that he never remembered! But silently she thanked her partner for recalling really important details, like their original mission. The silverette looked back towards the blue Witchmon and smiled gently. "That's right... we were sent here to help you. So please, how can we help?"

Undoubtedly, the Witchmon was quite cautious of anyone who would manage to breach her barrier. Still, this was quite the set-up: as the Dracmon took a step back from that vine, the imp followed up with a cautionary scan. Around the sorceress, and in a wide circle around the tree, a perimeter had been set in place. Anyone who crossed that invisible line would immediately be targeted by those sharp vines.
The Witchmon was supporting this, at the same time she was supporting the barrier behind them. Just how much stamina did it take to maintain all this? With that question floating in the Dracmon's mind, the Witchmon carefully considered the group in front of her. First to speak was the CyberSagitamon, a species that, at a glance, didn't differ too much from the attackers on the island. Despite her consideration, the synthetic tone that weaved its way into her voice didn't do much to earn the sorcerer's trust. "Protective against you?" She didn't retaliate, but her tone was quite pointed.
Were it left simply to Cion, it could have ended there, but there was quite a variety of voices all at once. The ancient spirit Sol, for instance, spoke in dry reason, and Kisara, with concern. To that, though, the Dracmon shook his head: "Channeling the spell isn't a problem - she's siphoning energy from the tree itself to create the spells. Still, even the focus must be intense to keep up..." 'Yikes' indeed, though the Witchmon merely gave a sigh, at least considering the group for now.
And then game Mitsuko's appeal. Her voice came through as sincere and warm, ringing with truth - and she was the first one to mention that note. The note, that this Witchmon had hastily scrawled on the back of a medicine label. It didn't mention the fruit, the attackers, or even the tree. It was just a plea for assistance. Mitsuko understood, and MagnaAngemon's recollection rang true. The blue-robed Witchmon closed her eyes.
"Listen carefully, then. This is indeed the 'Tree of Life', and to be honest, thieves of its fruit aren't that uncommon. But if it was just that, well... what's a fruit or two, really?" The Heaven's Elixir, after all, was sought after in every developed city in this world. "Still, it's not all it seems. The tree itself is Ceresmon's core - or, if you'd prefer, its anchor." Alicia, or at the very least, Sol and Kisara would understand the concept quite well - much like those statues or relics that kept parts of the Digital World in place, should the tree vanish, the rest of Ceresmon would start to fade as well!
Thus, it wasn't really as simple as relocating the tree. With that much explained, the witch gave a deep breath, collecting her thoughts. With her dry, fatigued voice, she pressed on: "If you want to help, well... about four days ago, that infernal Blimpmon managed to surprise us, and sneaked aboard a handful of odd Digimon - though I only know about the Devidramon. It was all I could do to sneak that bottle out on a fleeing Birdramon. Other than that, I've had to keep this place hidden..."
And at that, her voice gave a small crack. "In here, I can't get a good sense outside. But no-one else has come for days. I... must be one of the few even left here." Through tears, she gave a chuckle, on the edge of losing it. "Sorry... its daunting to ask, but whatever force that invaded needs to leave. The Blimpmon in particular..."
She shuddered. "I still feel its cannon-fire radiate through Ceresmon's shell. He's scared... hasn't been able to rest or sleep at all..."

Honestly, Cion was not even quite comprehending what the Witchmon's statement against her was supposed to mean. Was it an accusation, or a rhetorical question? Heck, it did not even match what the empowered CyberSagitamon had previously said, so perhaps there was an error in communication? Possibly exhaustion or general distrust, which was understandable in their current situation. Turning to one of Alicia's dragon-spirit, or whatever it was, she nodded several times, glad to see they had sharp mind of similar quality. Maybe for once, in her agitated state, the female mercenary was not the most suitable to mediate.
It seemed that Mitsuko took the lead, despite the vulpine digimon finding her voice and general attitude a bit too submissive and dependent. A strong stance was always beneficial, unless it was your drive to deceive someone. However MagnaAngemon made a fine job in her point of view, stating how things actually were as far as they could remember. Well, if it was also their task to help this lonely digimon out then they would giver her best as always, although the fruit remained her top priority. They had to set primary goals in this chaotic mess to stay focused and achieve anything at all.
But the young girl's and the angelic warrior's efforts were not in vain, as the Witchmon dressed in blue indeed finally decided to speak with them. She revealed the thieves were not too uncommon, but also that this particular tree was part of Ceresmon's very core, if not its entirety. Without it, this giant being would likely fade from existence, either completely or to be reborn as an entirely new creature. "Is that what these metal fiends are after? Destroying the tree? But why?" Cion more or less thought out loud as she folded her arms, thinking deeply about the real impetus behind the attacks.
Listening further, they were welcomed with grave information indeed. This lush dystopia was devoid of normal digimons, and it appeared that Ceresmon, according to the Witchmon, was severely exhausted. "We could take care of those raiders, but... can't Ceresmon destroy the Blimpmon? Even without attacks, such a gigantic being should be able to... I don't know... swallow it whole or something like that?" She asked, truly wondering why Ceresmon had not acted in self-defense already. Was it that it could not, or refused to?

Sol grimaced a bit as Dracmon mentioned that energy was being siphoned from the tree. That couldn’t be that healthy for the plant, but it was a necessary measure from the looks of it. It was even worse once Witchmon began to explain more. ”Something definitely isn’t adding up...” the dragon spirit mused to himself. And then the realization hit him. His knuckles audibly cracked as he clenched a fist and looked to where the Blimpmon would be, had it been visible at the moment.
“I’m missing something here...” Alicia muttered, looking to her advisors.
”Take your average boat or ship. When it goes to dock somewhere, or decide to hold position in a certain area of the ocean, it uses an anchor or other method to lock itself in that place so that it doesn’t drift away and get destroyed by a storm. That tree is doing the same thing for Ceresmon.” Kisara explained as simply as she could. Fortunately, Alicia got the message, the metal dragon’s eyes widening noticeably. Well, there went her earlier idea!
At the very least, though, the group had the blue Witchmon’s attention in a good way now. But her words only made Sol tense up more, as if a terrible fear had been confirmed. Alicia meanwhile, shook her head. “At least it’s only a handful. We’re not insanely outnumbered at least. Though... four days ago? That’s...” She trailed off there, biting her lips.
”The Blimpmon can probably just outmaneuver Ceresmon at will. You think a bird this immense can turn on a dime?” Kisara answered Cion’s question in turn, looking to the vulpine cyborg. ”And if I was a betting woman I’d bet that the Blimpmon has hostages on board, just for extra spice on the situation. We’ll have to get on to it ourselves, or find a way to bring it down without hurting those on board.”
Alicia mused under her breath, and a sharp ear might pick up her complaining about how their current altitude meant it would be at best difficult to fly far from Ceresmon in this condition. Then she realized something and looked at Sol. “... Are you okay? You were awfully quiet all of a sudden.”
”It’s not a thievery attempt. This is far too much effort for it. Why engage in a protracted campaign when a rapid-fire blitz could achieve the objective just as easily? They’re trying to capture Ceresmon and monopolize the Fruit of Life. Exhaust the bird to the point where it just passes out in flight and crashes, killing everyone still on its back. Then take the beast away and be able to harvest the Fruit at will.” Sol declared grimly once asked.
Alicia and Kisara were in turn stunned to silence. It made too much sense once put that way.

The angel and human team listened to Witchmon's tale intently. Get rid of the invading ground force and the incessant Blimpmon. Although in theory it didn't sound too difficult, Mitsuko knew that looks were deceiving in this situation. Especially if the other invading forces were anything like the Renamon and Devidramon that they had battled earlier. The question remained, which target was to be first?
The silverette shifted nervously as the fox-like digimon spoke. Although Cion brought up rather valid points, there was something that didn't seem like a master plan.
That was until Sol spoke. Yeah, Alicia and Kisara weren't the only ones stunned into silence. If anything sounded like a master plan, it was Sol's theory.
"I think..." Mitsuko said softly, "That Sol... is right. If you control the resources, you control the land and economy."
"And in this case, Ceresmon itself." MagnaAngemon added solemnly, as he nodded his approval of Sol's idea. "So the question remains, who do we go after first? The ground forces or the big blimp in the sky?"
Mitsuko pondered for a moment. "Either way if we attack one, the other will be better prepared. Thus we lose the element of surprise. Unless we split up." Mitsuko's face scrunched up in disapproval at that idea. "But if we do that, then one of our teams is at a severe disadvantage of being out numbered."
MagnaAngemon placed a hand gently upon Mitsuko's shoulder. "Follow your instincts, what are they telling you to do?"
Mitsuko closed her eyes, and embraced the eerie calm that currently surrounded them. They may not have many opportunities to plan like this, so they needed to take advantage of it. She took a deep breath in then slowly released it, as her deep blue eyes opened once again.
"Well, they already know we're here. I mean, we battled Renamon and Devidramon. If it were up to me, we would take out Blimpmon first. Disable their communications system and central base. Save any hostages aboard, and turn them into potential allies should they be willing. Then take out the rest of the ground forces. That is if Witchmon is able to keep her spell active, then we can use her camouflage to our advantage. What do you guys think?"
Mitsuko looked around towards the others, her eyes meeting each one of them. Dracmon. Cion. Witchmon. Alicia. Sol. Kisara. And finally rested upon her partner. MagnaAngemon's answer was a broad grin. "Sounds like a great plan to me."

And once more, theories were abound - both of the assailing groups' methods and motives. Cion's initial question only earned silence from the blue Witchmon. After all, she had to dedicate a large amount of focus to keeping up these two levels of defenses, and it's not like the sorceress would know much as it was.
As for why the Ceresmon wasn't attacking the Blimpmon? "Well, it's not a matter of maneuvering. Ceresmon's 'Gaia Shift' would send shrapnel flying in all directions, so I'd have to assume there's some other reason. If they've taken several hostages, well, he'd definitely hesitate." The Witchmon's tone was somber, but it was also certain: somewhere above the Ceresmon was a floating prison of this island's inhabitants.
"So... if we manage to free those from the Blimpmon, the Ceresmon will be able to fight back, right? Still, I guess us taking out the blimp would sort of make his help less useful." It was a catch-22, but at the very least, they finally knew their objectives: take out the ground forces, and rescue the hostages from the Blimpmon. The order or method was up for debate - Mitsuko laid out that case quite well - but what really set the tone was Sol's most recent theory. It was something that the Witchmon hadn't considered, but hearing that, she gave a gasp - with how well it fit, it could very well be!
"S-so..." the Dracmon stammered. "If you're right, then this method of defense is just lowering our time limit. But... hold on." Something still didn't sit right, even with that theory: "If that's the intent, it doesn't make sense why they'd vanish so easily from my sight - or at this point, why are there ground forces at all? I can't help but feel that there's one piece we don't understand just yet."
"Does it matter, either way? The objective remains the same, and it's not as if I can simply lower the barrier-"
As the group mused, however, the imp's hands would tighten, a tight focus returning to his posture! "What the... how'd they just appear out of thin air?!" The Dracmon's frustrated mumbling earned a shake from his head, as he pointed across to the other side of the barrier. "Right out the other side, just beyond the clearing, I think!" He 'thought'? The Witchmon redoubled her efforts, as Dracmon would lead the group - hopefully - along the outside of the tree's perimeter.
Just on the other side...
If the plan was to simply stall out the Ceresmon, these assailants were making quite a poor show of it! Those who chose to exit that invisibility barrier would be greeted with familiar faces. The Renamon held back, visible in the foliage. She appeared as before, holding a rapier, the blue metal casing across her back. Curiously, there was an addition to her ensemble, a cylindrical tank strapped to her back, and a breathing mask over her face. In the front, the Devidramon still donned its metal wings, armor, and visor from its first appearance - and from a glance, it showed no signs of damage from their previous bout. It would give a growl, narrowing its gaze at the offending group.
Further behind them, however, there would be a flash of light from the depths of the woods. The edge of the invisible barrier behind them would give a faint white glow - the Dracmon would detect that it was repelling some outside force. The grass, the trees, and the canopy of the area around them, however, would be taken over by a red grid-line, as if stripping it bare to its data structure. A moment later, the foliage would completely vanish, a flat surface replacing the wooded clearing.
And as the woods around them would vanish, the culprit would become apparent, a few yards behind the Renamon: A human. Whoever he was, he appeared to be in his mid-twenties, and wore a similar visor, earpiece, and mouthpiece as the Renamon. And like the Digimon, he was wearing a similar tank and mask. To his left and his right stood two Knightmon, shields drawn and ready to defend.
In the tamer's left hand was a strange, green Digivice - a modified Xros Loader. In his right, between two fingers, was a modify card. Suddenly, that one missing piece 'clicked' in the Dracmon's head. "That's why I couldn't - gah!"
There was no time to talk! In that cleared space, cold air whipped through from the top, turbulent airflow forcing its way right through the clearing! Whatever atmosphere that was trapped by the canopy here would quickly be stripped away, replaced by the unforgiving, cold air at this extreme altitude. And from the far side of the 'barrier', sapphire leaves would strip out, flickering out into the stratosphere!
Though, if one's eyes followed those leaves, they'd finally get a good look at that Blimpmon hanging above. From below, they'd see an impressive layer of red armor, and a rather vicious-looking main cannon, as well as several strong barrels on either side. It definitely held a more imposing view than a 'Champion' Blimpmon!
Battle Log1) Devidramon (?) has reappeared at the edge of the clearing. Xros Proficiency - Ultimate. 2) Renamon (?) has appeared behind Devidramon. Xros Proficiency - Ultimate. 3) A Xros General has appeared. 4) Two Knightmon have appeared in defensive stance. Proficiency unknown. 5) The modify card 'Final Destination' is in effect, flattening all terrain in the immediate area. The Tree of Life is excluded from this effect.(0/3) 5) Exposure - The temperature has dropped drastically! Wind speeds have dramatically increased! The air has become extremely thin!
